Matchmaking Question

The matchmaking system is quite perplexing to me too. In the legendary bracket i got put together with 4 pugs, none of which i’d ever heard of, and on the enemy’s team were 4 ESL players (two duo ques) and one player i knew were good. This exact scenario happened 3 times in a row, and my rating got kittened thanks to it.

How else are you supposed to feed the top ranked 5:1 win ratios?

No seriously, how else lol. It must suck to be ranked enough to meet the “elite” but not high enough to get more mixed rank fights.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to give players the ability to kill friendly NPC’s.
I hate it in WoW, and I’m sure I will hate it in GW2.
I can’t wait to go Divinity’s Reach only to find every banker, trader and merchant dead….

Just scale down all players in cities to say… level 5… while keeping NPCs at level 80.

What, it’d be hilarious.

One autoattack would be enough to kill like 10 players while they would have to go 50v1 on an NPC to make a dent on its HP.

If you are roaming then p/p condi IMO beat a hammer build. Mostly because you become so much more capable at killing fleeing/stealthed thieves with lingering condis (ie what most encounters probably end as).

At the moment I run something thats probably not too common in terms utilities and traits (its most certainly not meta), because I want it to be as simple as possible so I can focus on the fight rather than to be overwhelmed by rotations. Full rabid, p/p, alchemy/firearms/scrapper, elixir H, elixir B, bulwark, purge and sneak gyros. Traveler runes (sort of necessary) and earth/incapacitation sigils. Alchemy/firearms traits should be a given, for scrapper I run rapid regen/final salvo. Many will probably go wtf given the massive nerfs but I find myself still unable to let go (alchemy/elixirs instead of tools/all gyros was the compromise) because I embrace pretty much a single role in outmanned combat – I am the tactical stomper and resser.

I run the exact same build in ranked sPvP, though with wanderers. Havent been taken down by a hammer meta scrapper so far, hehe. Again with practically zero rotation you can 100% focus on when and where you fire your pistol skills. Its all about timing enemy skills. The only flaw is that with less sustain you really need to be on your toes against enemy melee builds. Well played melee warriors is the nastiest of foes.

Pistol would have to have a ton more damage and completely new skills. Piercing, fragshots etc it wouldnt be nearly enough outside a full zerg on zerg fight. A pistol on full power reach what with full zerker, like 600 damage? Any normal power weapon does 1.5-3K damage with other really high damage skills. Unlike condi you would be completely anemic (pun intended), especially if you bring p/s. You literally would not be able to kill anything.

So yes, dire/trailblazers should be removed from the game. It really cant be stated enough. There are no excuses, no defense in favor of full condi and full bunker gearstats. Anet already removed dire in PvP because it pretty much ruined it. If Anet cant see that this should be removed in WvW as well they are fools.

The stats were removed from PvP because the PvP team can simply add/remove amulets at will without having to wait for balance team to do somenthing. What can WvW do when their balance is tied to PvE? Unless you are proposing that WvW start using the amulet system (which I’m pretty sure most people don’t want) there is nothing that can be done about it.

Reset all current dire or trailblazer gear to be selectable between rampager, rabid, sinister, apothecary, carrion, viper or celestial (ie the remaining gear with condi, unless I forgot one). The system is already in the game.

There, was that really so hard?

If you’re talking 1v1, well, that’s not really WvW.

Dire/trailblazers on thief or mesmer is by far the most OP condi builds in the game and the very reason people cry “omgwtfthiscondimeta” on a daily basis. Necro would be part of it except it’s pretty mediocre at roaming to begin with. Remove it and they would be nowhere near as much bunker as they are now as they would have choose between vitality or toughness or less of both with a hybrid. Precision is not needed for these specific classes, that’s the entire point.

More like an AC golem. Change the weapon skills to be similar to an AC and keep all the other restrictions.

Oh you are right! Then we could even make an AC golem mastery line, giving you stuff like +100% damage or automatic teleport to spawn when the golem explodes. Oh oh and the final trait makes it so that when it explodes on death it does an AoE knockback with 3s stun that also put 25 stacks of burning for 3s on people!

That is just silly.

An AC tonic would be much simpler and better. Transform the player into an mobile AC, replace the weapon skills with normal AC skills and the utility skills with shield gen skills.

Wait, what class running “alot of boonstrip” are we talking about it? If it’s the necro, they generally murder scrappers (condis kill themselves and power have to go head to head). If it’s the mesmer well they own the field against pretty much anything and are less affected by reflects due to having laser beams.

Much of the boon uptime also come the alchemy tree.

Asking for the CD’s to start when the traps are triggered pits them at a disadvantage.

… So? The game already have skills that work like this and traps – all traps – should work like this to begin with.

the only reason traps have been given a pass for years is because they are generally weak and effect based (condi) instead of having insane power damage multipliers.

Turrets work like this and it didnt stop Anet from nerfing them to the ground as well. But booohooo dont nerf my precious DH.

Foefire is a rather special flake because its way, way too easy to snowball if enemies make one particular mistake. I am betting it happened exactly the same as my last match there:

- We take home and fight on mid as usual, wipe enemy team in rapid succession.
- We go 2v1 on far, followed by 2v2, followed by 3v3, etkittenil its 5v5. Basicly, complete tunnelvision.
- They die one by one for a while yet keep coming back to that point, we push door and wipe them again.
- All of us rush lord and kill/stomp him in 5 seconds due to low hp and completely ignoring the 5 players trying to kill us in the meantime.

We won 500v40 or something.

This is 75% a map/game mode design flaw and 25% idiots. The main problem is that yes, you could argue that they should have spread out and capped the two undefended points but you see, that would have made them lost anyway. That is the issue with foefire. Not the matchmaking.

Not only appropriate, but the logical one – its the exact same way they handled gyros. Once, long ago when Anet still loved the class, the gyros went on cooldown as you activated them. Meaning you could pop another once they died. Just like how double DH traps is now, it was unfortunetly considered too OP. Maybe rightfully so. And thus they chopped off their figurative legs.

The only difference is unlike the scrapper, Anet still loves their precious OP DH. So it will be a cold day in hell before we see traps go on cooldown when they are triggered.

Gyros have a set duration once activated and can be destroyed. If no one triggers a trap, how long should the DH have to wait before he can place it somewhere else? This is why trap cooldowns start when placed. What you really want, is for trap cooldowns to be increased, and have the durations nerfed to match the cooldown, so that when it comes off of cooldown the old trap is gone.

Oh that is simple – an eternity. So no, I dont want that. Traps can stay. Heres what I would like to see:

- Trap is placed, skill is replaced with “remote trigger trap”.
- Trap will remain on the ground untill triggered manually, by an enemy player, or if the DH gets beyond 5000-10000ish range (shorter in sPvP, longer in WvW/PvE, maybe should be even lower to 2000-6000 or something, poor with distances).
- When triggered in any scenario above, trap goes on cd.

Simple as that. This stops the hideously OP double tap while not really affecting anything else. Now, if the trap damage need to be tweaked is another matter…

Only if your dumb enough to stand in them. I really don’t get what’s so hard about not standing in the traps.

You mean not standing on the traps the exact same size as the capping circles the game tells you to stand on or you loose the match?

There is a reason why trapper thief or trapper ranger isnt a thing in sPvP, dont be daft. Their traps is nowhere near the power of DH traps.

Thats a good one, haha.

If anything many of them should be combined so there is less conditions, builds would no longer be able to overload enemies, condi cleansing is more effective, boon rip is more effective and WvW is faster and less laggy.

Probably the best example is chill, slow and cripple. Why? Just have one skill that does all 3 things to a lesser degree. Call it “chillowipple” or whatever.

Asura rat fact, the need for tails was removed with the invention of the miniature biopowered stabilization gyro core, aka the “butt gyro”. Its how they can do perfect backflips every time without any kind of athletic training. Rumor has it the Inquest tried to sell it to the Charr once, but they thought it was supposed to be swallowed so instead of removing the need for a tail it made them stand upright by overcompensating. Funny story really.

I dont see much of a condi meta out there. If it’s really a problem the only classes that need to be addressed are condi Mesmer and ghost Thief (nerf Inspiration and condi shatter traits for Mesmer and rework Thief traps to be mainly utility/cc and not damage). If you bring condi-cleanse you can deal with all the other condi builds/classes out there.

This is 100% the fault of dire/trailblazers and the fact both these classes dont need any precision to apply condi. The other gears have flaws – full glass cannon, no vitality, no toughness, no precision. Pick your poision. Any hybrid in between make sacrifices one way or another.

To XTR, the reason your condi warrior remain strong is still not the condi in itself – it’s the warriors native tankiness and super healing. It’s just as OP on power.

It is stronger than the power build. Did you miss the part where I am laying down 10k burn ticks and ~4k confusion and ~2.5k bleed ticks AOE? I can stack all of that easily within 3 seconds. I can 2 shot a lot of people as a condi build – tell me where that is not broken.

So you can two shot another 3.5K armor warrior that regens more HP than conditions do damage? Sure it’s strong. But it’s still your build that carry you, not the condi. You know what you are doing and it’s not exactly random chance that made you pick defense and healing signet now, is it?

But hey any class can be OP on youtube.

Why would you ever need mobility when the only thing you are supposed to stand on is the same size as your AoE?

Imagine how it would be if every point was the size of mid foefire.

Everything can be shortened down to a single line:

Delete dire and trailblazer.

Boom 90% of all condi issues solved. Are there still OP conditions? Sure. Just like there are still seriously OP power builds, they could use tweaks to damages and duration. But at least that takes care of the fact you should never ever have max tankiness with max damage of respective type. Having dire/trailblazer is like having celestial with all stats maxed except condi. It’s stupid. Anet already fixed it in sPvP but so far has outright refused to even try to balance WvW.

Toughness/Armor SHOULD be a factor for sure, without a doubt. The fact that I can walk up and burst down someone in full PTV and that they can do no damage to me back on my dire/rabid warrior is unbalanced.

Dire is 50% of your problem. The insane healing from adrenal health and healing signet is the other 50%.

- Added 3 stacks of 10s bleed on longbow auto-attack to make up for the nerf.

We take the lead and we have mid and far, i say force them to come to us and 2 went to our home we take home and i lose far. 1 ele decides to go for beast at our home, i run far. We lose mid and i take far, they decap our home and the ele dies trying to take beast.

Sounds to me like you should have traded far for home + mid and helped that ele so he could return to to whatever point he was on.

Anyway, your anectodal gameplay example really doesnt matter – individual class balance issues and matchup based player issues is two different things.

  • 4) No barriers to entry for Ranked. A lot of people will attest that there are players who don’t understand strategy of PvP maps. You can’t take what you learn from PvE or WvW, and expect to play out the same. Unless you can create a learning simulation for players new to PvP to practice on before entering Ranked queues, there needs to be stricter qualifications for entry.

I have read similar comments before but last time I checked you need to be rank 20 to join ranked games. Ergo there is already a barrier.

Nothing, except keeping another ABL.

But granted, I really dont think its all bad. Only reset is crowded, the rest of the week DBL is essentially a deserted overflow.

WvW is currently EB + 2 borders, which condense a lower population, bringing more fights.

Anet is obviously fine with that and so am I.

And no, its not even forcing 2 servers to work together. That claim is absolutely ridiculous. If 2 weaker servers work together, one of them will get 1st place and the other 3rd place, because the strongest server will still win some skirmishes. The very idea that one server plays to “win” 3rd place is absurd.

You can change the appearance of armor, but it costs. Go to Hero Panel, and this time pick Wardrobe just below equipment. You can then pick an armor location from the drop down box and the available appearances (skins) will show up. Pick the one you want. WARNING: The transformation will require a transmutation charge.

I’ve been saving my charges in case there is high level gear that I want to wear but don’t like the look of, so you may want to do the same.

Dont really know what your “high level gear” is but do not at any point transmute anything below level 80 exotic gear. Its completely useless. At low levels (ie 79 or below) you will be swapping armor and weapons every 10th level or even quicker. Hell, I have had moments where I didnt even have the same weapon for one level, lol. Everything will be tossed away once you are 80.

Well except maybe that blue level 30 underwater weapon you forgot you even had because you will never use it again.

So you are trying to imply that the visible tag is the only reason you get “harassed” by people? O.o

Since you are saying roaming with 8 people (which no guild commander in their sane mind would describe their raid as) I assume that the roaming you are doing isnt only open field fights against enemy closed guild raids equal sizes. Are you taking camps/towers/keeps of opprtunity? If yes, then expect to get “harassed” by players seeing your tag on inner hills or whatever. Because thats the kittening game.

If you really, truly want to hide your activities from your own server, well then run tagless as you please. It aint hard. There is nothing stopping you. An 8 man “roaming” group all on TS doesnt need a dorito any more than closed guild raids did before colors and squads was introduced.

Yes population is down everywhere, but you could at least acknowledge in your rant that this is extremely normal this time of year with the Christmas season and all that.

It was Christmas season 2 years ago, and WvW was way, way more active, you are making excuses, just like those that made them in the summer that people were going out enjoying the weather and would be back when the weather gets colder in autumn/winter, it didn’t happen, the game mode is moribund.

Yeah because it was two freaking years ago. In the current generation MMOs thats basicly cash grabs which survive 3 months before loosing 80% of player, GW2 still stands out as a healthy populated game. But it doesnt change the fact it get older by the day and thus people quit naturally.

That and it’s kittening christmas eve.

If they wont let us have an invisible tag, let us have a guild debuff around us that gives -10k hp and -100% movement speed to anyone that insists on following us around and isnt in the squad. then maybe people will take the hint and buzz off. Downing a key enemy target only to have them rally off the death of a noob with a bad build that insists on following is frustrating. Alteast they only rally 1 guy now, but still it’s a pain.

You dont mind saying which server you are on and when your guild run skirmishes against other other guilds do you? I mean of course I’m not gonna tag up in the middle of the skirmish hahahaha… No, I just want to watch. Pinkie promise.

Note to self, get some guard/war bunker build to have enough HP and invoulns so it can remain locked down for no particular reason anyone that reads this need to know about.

A) 8 people is not a roaming group, thats a guild raid lol.

B) Most servers should have an agreed upon closed raid tag color. If people dont respect it, do a friendly reminder in chat while running.

C) Running tagless with anything above 5 people is an insult to everyone on the server, no matter what kind of raid it is. Even if you run a stay-the-kitten-away closed raid, pugs/roamers/scouts/zergs will see where you are and can focus effort elsewhere. Nothing worse than running toward a camp and then oh theres a 10 man guild raid no one knew was even on the border that capped it when you where 2m from the circle. Spies is always a risk, not an excuse.

Most (all?) 7.1 headsets run virtual surround via USB instead of using the mic/sound jack. I have honestly never used a pair but from what I gather its a little hit and miss. Games may sound great but generic audio like music will be off. The main advantage there is that you bypass the sound chip on the mobo by using USB – if you use some cheapass crappy mobo then high impedance normal headphones wont drive so well (a soundcard with amplifier is ideal)

Frankly if mic audio quality is your prime concern.. Don’t buy a headset.
It doesn’t matter what headset it is, gaming headset mics are pretty cheap.

Then you havent used good headsets.

I highly recommend Sennheisers. Excellent audio and they usually have some of the best mics around. I am currently using a game one. The earcups fits me perfectly, to the point I have only been able to use HD series style cups for like 10 years lol. Others have a tendancy to use huge round cups or too small round ones. My ears arent round :/

People actually use stealth traps?! To the point where OP cant even play?!?!

Sometimes I wonder if it’s just my server that’s kittened. I mean it’s not just traps, it’s all deployables. I take an enemy T1 tower and it’s got 4 ACs (2 sups), 2 trebs and 1 cata. Thats more siege than our T3 garri has and I’m like waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat…

Why there is no reason for Vets to play.

Well of course there is no reason for vets to play. Its not like sPvP is gonna teach them how to perform surgery on a horse or something.

We already had a vote. A majority of people wanted DBL, thus they must have liked it. It cant possibly be any different now, because that would be hypocritical.

As i said before, i did switch to other classes (engis, necro) – it made no difference.

Well then you switched from one class that cant carry to two other classes that cant carry, duh.

People think that mender ele is only a healer but with 2k power and 30% crit it has also a decent damage for an healer (if u add a sigil of accuracy you crit 1/3 of time which is quite good now ) . you are an healer but you can also win 1 vs 1 … it is much better than old cleric in this and it is less boring .

Hence why it’s not called a healer but rather bunker/dps. The old cele ele also had the privilege of being in a tier that was literally outside all other PvP tiers when it came to class balance.
