So take it from me, you will more then likely not like the skill, grind, or competitive floor or cap in ESO, It is like the mountain while GW2 is like the ant, far as skill and grind goes, for both PvP and End Game PvE.

So the difference is basicly if you play GW2 you will be part of a thriving anthill where everyone is working together and if you play ESO you will be alone on top of a mountain, surrounded by frozen corpses and have 20m left to live due to lack of oxygen.

9, Rapid regeneration – came in at an OP rating of 1294. It does too much healing, it really is broken.

Including this nerfed to the ground trait few scrappers will pick in their build (and even if they do, most will only use 1-2 gyros for a couple of seconds of superspeed every 20-30 second IF they also trait final salvo, which few again will do) but no mention of HS+AH on warrior giving 1000hp/s?

… makes sense.

Actually it only take 2 power ranger :}

power ranger hits arround 2-3k(i had some 4k crits in the past ) on heavys wiht 3.5k armor+protection, its isnt hard to pressure a commander down.

And sniping commandders it is all fine…. even onw wars getting the enemy comamnder could stop the enemy its a natural thing.

Range damage migh need to be reduced and aoe spam the same, so we can use skills on reset nights, lag is still way to much… when one side can use skills and the other dont, and our healing skills is on looooaaaadddiinnnngg…. wait for it wait for it…

That’s kind of weak compared to a fully buffed lich hitting for 5-10k on auto-attack.

An odd Gift of Battle crafting issue

It’s not like crafting a legendary is done overnight, after all.

No it is not.

It take ~10h of casual WvW to get gift. It take hundreds upon hundreds of hours of PvE. In the end I bet that WvW time will be less than 1% of your time spent on making that legendary.

There is no “gift of battle issue”, there never has been.

Now imagine how fun it is for someone that play 90% WvW only…

  • (This is not exclusive to WvW but happens most often there) I have an i7-4600U (Haswell Generation CPU) with hybrid graphics (Radeon HD 8730M). In particular when using the Haswell GPU, getting a large number of people (20+) into the view drops the framerate from 25 fps to 1-5 seconds of complete pause. Enabling the AMD card reduces the timeout, but it is still very inconvenient. The effect can also reliably reproduced at the crafting stations in LA – a full 360 degree turn has multiple 1s+ hickups. Staying in place and rotating a second time is fluid again.

Sorry to be blunt but this sounds more like trying to run the game on a potato than an actual issue. When gaming the discrete GPU should always be used, the internal GPU will use the slow RAM for video memory and given your CPU model that will probably be extra slow laptop memory thats nowhere near gaming desktop performance. In your specific case, be sure to turn down models to lowest.

As someone who attempted to WvW on an i5 4300U (Surface 2 Pro), I feel your pain. Literally, that caused me physical pain and I had to rush out and buy a GTX1060 (my 980Ti got fried and was under RMA) just to get GW2 playable. It did work though.

I’m of the opinion that I’d honestly rather no one tag on either side. Tagless blob fights are the most chaotic and the most fun. They also usually last for an incredibly long time because not enough people will die at once to make a full push.

If I wanted to waste my time without accomplishing anything I’d play PvP.

Aye, we wasted so much time using tactic like that to defeat guilds like RG back in the hammer train days, ugh. Dont remind me.

… you do realize that most will recognize who the commander of a zerg is simply by looking at how the zerg run? You dont need ranks or portraits.

Either way, its a player created problem.

99% of commanders will grab a meta group while dumping the taboo healers or people that can cloak him on demand in the garbage group that apparently does not need any stab when the commander faceplant 20v50 into a necrobomb while crying that noobs wont follow.

Sure because all small groups have enough supply to build a 3x more expensive treb doing 1/5th the dps of a single ram. I always put aside 2 hours a night for trebbing.

Add me to the zerg haters :-). WvW should encourage small groups as much as possible.
But contestign keep waypoints should only be done if the inner wall/gate is attacked.

So if 10 people start on a T3 keep there is supposed to be an open waypoint the entire time? Yeah… that will surely encourage small groups…

If a thief in the wild doesn’t want to be killed, it’s more or less impossible to kill them. The same applies here, except NPCs aren’t smart enough to just leave the thief be, they’ll simply die to it.

Imagine if an NPC scout suddenly has 8 condis on him from a permastealth thief… He immiedietly pop invouln and reveal the thief, the two guards next to him pop quickness and toss unblockable pulls, when the thief is being CCd the scout steal teleport to him and stealth backstab for 15k damage.

'mercenary' servers to fix balance?

Well yes, essentially it’s still a linking server system, but the linked servers would have a different role. Instead of them being filled with players-left-behind-when-everyone-else-left, they will be filled with players wanting to be mercenaries. The link changes could be regular as needed, perhaps max once per week at reset. And there could be a recruiting system for those servers too – based on what time of day you play (to get balance). To start it all off, Anet could offer free transfers to and from those mercenary servers.

This assumes that you know the outcome of next weeks matchup before its even started, so you can properly “balance” it ahead of time. Otherwise adding this “mercenary server” is the same as the link system, just randomly stack population and hope for the best.

Even if Anet has invented a time machine or have a psychic in their offices they would never tell us in the WvW forum anyway.

Even if you are looking at say 5v5’s and adding rules to the engagement of no condi builds in the 5v5.

Then why on earth add that rule, lol.

I dont know where you play but the 5 man setups is far more sustain than that in EU T1 in my experience. Most of them behave like mini zergs, they generally dont bring zerkers. Securing stomps or outlasting the enemy is more important than bursts because glassy dps drop like flies to proper CC and sustain. And the scrapper excel at this because he can take the hit of a burst while friends retaliate.

Its only in 2-3 man gank squads dps is important enough to outweigh sustain. Then again their fights will be 3v1 most of the time so their overall effectiveness in equal fights can be debated.

From a WvW roaming/small scale perspective Scrapper is down the list of desired classes. The main meta roamers you will find will be thieves they have at least 4 viable builds. Warriors who with adrenal health proc are ticking nearly 1k healing per second in WvW. And of course condi chrono.

Ironic, considering p/p scrapper is pretty much hardcounter to any cheesy thief build. They are also one of the best – if not the best – smallscale stompers in the game and a critical part of the group. Function gyro literally win fights, especially when outmanned.

But warrior hs+ah is OP as kitten and dire/trailblazer chrono too, true.

Never underestimate a good roamer.

Unless its a perma-stealth thief, then its a gouda roamer.

One person contesting a keep really isnt an issue until the cheesiest of cheese builds get involved. Its not like anyone ever complained that a turret engie contest a keep, or a spirit weapon guardian.

It has absolutely nothing to do with good roamers.

You are supposed to blast the turret but tbh I dont get it either. I have never been able to get the turret to work well and when I fight engies dropping it its like a big neon sign saying “I’m now gonna be busy rotating through skills for 5s without thinking about you so please go ahead and pump all your CC and damage into me”. Because I run final salvo in PvP I use the gyro for an extra stabbi stomp.

Exactly. Thats why nightcapping was so broken before skirmishes, their playtime was worth so much more 03:00 than it was 19:00 for the other 99% of the playerbase.

Wait thats what you meant right? Because people have always had the silly tendancy to apply it to primetime players instead for no logical reason.

As I said, skirmishes balance out this alot better but within them the passive ticks of tier upgrades remain wonky. This apply to both off- and primetime. “Defending” a T3 keep against no one for 5 ticks give you 100 PPT in total. Actually defending a T0 keep against two 50 man zergs at the same time give you 40 PPT in the same amount of ticks.

We always complain about the passive skill dominance of HoT elites when it comes to WvW balance but everyone is oddly quiet about passive tier bonuses…

Max dps, hahahahaha… I assume this is about raiding and minmaxing. Well you see, you are talking about a single aspect of 1 of 3 game modes that like 5% of the population will bother to care about. In general PvE, WvW and sPvP your example is irrelevant. Engineer will easily survive 2017 as is. But if you think he’s not up to snuff in that single aspect… well bring another class then. Its not any harder than that. Engie doesnt need to hold the throne of easiest raiding class.

This has been discussed soooo many times before and it always come back to one thing: should the PPT be worth the same when 20 people are playing as when 600 people are playing?

Before the skirmishes the answer was simple. No. No it should not. That’s why we saw scores snowballing during the EU nights and it was a core issue with the scoring system. During primetime in intense 3 way fights with activity far exceeding the night, points could be at a near standstill while at nights servers dominated. This was unfair by design because a server cant help if 10 nightowls clear an entire border in 30 minutes. Very few people had a major impact on the matchup.

After skirmishes, this changed though. Now a win at night is the same as a win during the day. The problem however remain the same – should a skirmish when 20 people are online be worth the same as a skirmish when 600 people are online? I would still argue no. No it should not. I still think that score gains should scale with total WvW population. For skirmishes, for example that would mean that if at “night” (ie population <25% or something no matter the hour), a skirmish might be 3/2/1. But at “day” (population >75%) maybe its 6/4/2 instead. That said skirmishes already balance it out far better than pure PPT so honestly I no longer care about that too much.

What I think currently ruin the balance is the snowballing points from tier upgrades. The score bonuses are absolutely ridiculous and make it very hard for to make a comeback against entrenched T2-3 servers (ie what the dominating server has worked on during the offtimes).

I really dont understand what people expect when they see the ~5:1 or ~10:1 win ratios of the top players. Those kinds of stats are completely impossible in a balanced system. Somebody is getting farmed and its definetly not the top players fighting each other in nailbiting even matches where they trade wins.

So you have the lucky privilege of being high enough rank to be farmed. Enjoy.

it’s frustrating when no one wants to tag up and form a squad.

If US servers behave the same as EU servers, this is unfortunetly a player created issue. Having multiple tags is taboo (except for closed raids) so people expect the one tagging to instantly be the only zerg guardian commander with 50 followers or he sucks and should tag down. Hence people dont want to tag up.

Mesmer is the most forgiving character when it comes to exploration (obvious portals are obvious) but ranger and necro are the easiest due to pets. Permaevade or permablind thief can also take on anything.

Yep there is absolutely no point in WvW with anything below 80. Run with your 80, get tomes, use them on lower levels. If you have scrolls (from birthday gifts etc) you only need 40-60 tomes to make an 80… Doing story missions isnt too bad either, get some xp boosts and you can PvE to level 80 in less than a week.

But I’m guessing we are talking power damage given the single hit stuff. Here’s the thing – in order to do that kind of insane damages, all classes with one super OP exception (warrior with defense tree, adrenal health and healing signet) have to go full glass cannon. When facing similar builds its either kill or be killed quick and they often make themselves very voulnerable to condition damage by taking this route (except previously mentioned warrior), which is the very point of balance between the two types.

The burst class in question (example Thief) doesn’t care if he has to spec full glass. If he can kill you in the opening burst he doesn’t need defense. He can just walk away because you are dead. And if he didn’t kill you he can disengage with ease and come back when his cooldowns are back.

Look, I dont like thieves. In fact I loathe thieves. Most think they are so cool and awesome when they juggle knives and stealth like ninjas yet they are always the first to whine like little kittenes when they are killed. The ones running in 2-3 man gank squads are decidedly the worst and most cowardly of the bunch. I think stealth is a broken mechanic and they got way too much mobility.

That said a glass cannon thief is still a glass cannon. Maybe he doesnt “need” defense, true. Maybe a warrior just blocked his initial burst, turned around and killed the thief in one hit. Or maybe the engineer put a blowtorch to his face and laughs as he’s teleporting around like a hilarious headless chicken with 3k burns on him. Glass cannon thief is slippery as kitten but still wide open to good counterplay when it comes to smallscale and in largescale he drops like a rock when someone looks at him wrong.

Even if we where to look at balancing it, I dont think the damage is where you should look – rather toward the very low cooldown on DD block skill, dd/staff perma-evade, smoke field stacking, traps not doing damage and dire/trailblazers supertankcondi gear in general.

2.) Gyro’s – their ability to keep up the player is hindering the ability to make use of their traits. For instance, if you were kiting away form a dangerous situation and wanted to use the Super Speed from Final Salvo, you couldn’t merely summon and detonate to gain the Super Speed. You in fact have to stop, summon, detonate, and then are free to commence running or your life again. It goes without saying that this is impractical.

  1. Only one “Zerg” commander tag is available for each map.
  2. It may be subject to a vote of the players of the map for elimination. (more than 75% of the population).
  3. Increase max. capacity for the squad with “Zerg” tag to contain the entire map population.
  4. For the roaming and scout tags a very large but not infinite amount of tags are available in every map. (One for each objective in map?)

Absolutely ridiculous. Why even limit any of this? It just reeks of monoblob behaviour. Of course no one gonna tag up for “roaming” if the main zerg is encouraged to be the entire freaking map.

EoTM style WvW is a flawed concept compared to WvW because it turns your community into just a random group of players (the entire map in this case) and make i a point seeking clickfest, nothing more. WvW would loose its heart and soul.

The new release made ESO feel like a completely new game to me. It has nothing to do with the rough launch, literally everything has been improved and it has joined GW2 up there on the list. That said GW2 and ESO are both great games with their own merits. Since there is no monthly fee for either of them it’s really the players who benefits from trying them both.

I would add that the main reason I mostly play ESO right now is because the Mac client of GW2 crashes constantly and they do not have a console version.

I do hope that GW2 can redefine itself with the next expansion the way ESO did.

That doesnt really say much though.

Does Cyrodil actually work now? Just curious. I havent played ESO since about 3 months after release. No EU servers without them speaking to the community about it together with the vampire exploits killed the game completely, the guild I was in literally dropped from 200 to 5 players over a few months.

I mean the concept of ESO was great. The more physical combat and such was a fresh concept and worked just fine in PvE. But it all broke down when it started lagging in PvP. Every moment of play was like a 3-way in SM… Except people rubberbanded all over the place too and insta-killed/perma-stunned. With dynamic waypoints broken (the placeable tent didnt work) it was always a ton of running and very, very little actual combat. I have more combat in 10 minutes of GW2 than I did 2 hours of ESO.

You can farm and salvage how much you want, T6 leather… its rarer than actual exotic drops. The WvW synthesizers in particular are laughable when it comes to drops and that was introduced as a part of the “solution” to this.

Anet can most definetly do something about it – increase drop rates across the board.

Condi Ranger has to flank for that dps and is heavily crippled by a moving target, where Engi basicly only loses Napalm. If you can handle Engi, the dps will be higher, but as mentioned before, if you aren’t really into Engi, Ranger is just easier to handle.

The big difference however is by having a Ranger, the subgroup has an additional Glyph for Grace of the Land. Since 2 Chronos are meta now, you can spam the Sun Spirit for damage, wich means it’s more useful for the Subgroup to let the Ranger take it, while the Druid uses GoAlignment.

What Engi has to offer is lots of CC, Seeker control and not to forget blinds. You will not notice it if an Engi prevented a Thug kick at Sabby that would have pushed an ally into a flamethrower or off the platform while waiting for the Green Bomb, or blinded some shard buffed adds at Sabby, corrupting Slubs at Sloth, etc. You will only notice it if he didn’t.

I’m not exactly sure what you just said but yes I also kill stuffs and things when pushing buttons.

Thats what WvW once was. We used to have 2-3 hours long 3-way fights over completely broken down garrisons. Zerg vs zerg vs lord then a yolo warrior ran in and bannered the downed lord and the fight continued. It was fun and it was insane. Some fights the lord went down 50 times. It was those moments that led to actual real life battlefatigue, lol. Add entire zergs waypointing in between contests for defense on top of that.

But then Anet gutted WvW. All the nerfs has made it a shadow of its former glory.

It would be goldsellers and spam 24/7. No MMO has ever had good serverwide chat and its been one of the reason I have loved GW2, the zone chat that actually feel meaningfull.

Even the restricted WvW teamchat as it is now need to be muted like 80% of the time…

What we could need is just ingame alerts (like the normal icon exclamation marks) telling us borders or EB are outmanned. WvW icon warn, then when you click it you see a warning on green border or whatever.

It’s worth a try. We seen one proposal – 2,1,1 and experienced it’s failure.

I disagree with this bit.

After 3 weeks all we could possibly have “experienced” is the playerbase’s knee jerk reactions and scapegoating.

The playerbase kneejerk reactions has often been proven to be right ones. But yeah, maybe we should try it a year instead and see how much the playerbase love it.

It worked for DBL, right?

Dire/trailblazer chrono or warrior with healing signet + adrenal health pretty much nothing can beat, that doesnt really say much about roaming on other classes.

Hammer is ok-ish when roaming but easily kited by ranged/evade classes (which is most foes except warrior). P/P condi beat it in most situation, especially in small group fights where your team need a little more lingering bite. Hammer doesnt really shine until you 10-man and play tanky while supported by dps.
