Beyond a few salty PZ players I haven’t seen much unsportsmanlike conduct in ranked. Unranked just reeks.
Ha, people are salty in pretty much every game.
I played with this druid that wouldnt shut up about where we should go and what everyone should be doing one round, we lost because the enemy comp was pure meta (3 DH, 1 war and an ele) and we where a random assortment of druids, engies and a necro. Duh, outcome obvious. He probably reported a couple people that round.
Next round I had him in my team again and of course he just wouldnt shut up. We fought, we where already winning overwhelmingly and went to the center channel thingamabob to cap all points… And I stealthed him. To be honest it was a little unintentional but oh god the hilarious fury from him. All caps, all the time. We won the fight, we won the match easy and I got reported for being a kitten, I believe he said.
It was glorious. It really made me wonder just how many reports you can make in sPvP before Anet lifts an eyebrow or three.
I already got my ascended gear so now I only play just to find someone even saltier, that’s my new goal in life.

They should replace the lords with veteran pocket raptor mob packs.
No, they should replace all PvP NPCs with the kittening DBL ogre lord.
But even then I bet the thieves would be the ones complaining the loudest about how much he stealth, evade and stun.
This has been suggested several times before and yes using only generic “3-way-from-the-edges” EB design for all maps would make WvW alot more flexible. You could for example vary the amount of maps dynamically, depending on the population. This would be better for Anet (less server resources) and it would be better for us (at night when total population is like 20 players, we could go down to just a single EB, thus making no more runaway PPT)
But Anet isnt going to change anything like that. Just make minor silly tweaks. Uuuugh is 2-1-1 over yet?
Inevitably fall behind? Lol DBL is like free PPT for any server bothering to put in even 10% of the effort they do on the two ABL combined.
If your server dont even bother doing that, no amount of bloodlust is gonna help you.
It seems like damage statistics are severely under reported now. Before the patch I used to consistently do around 600-700k damage (50/50 power+condi). Everytime I play now it always floats around 300k.
What gives? I have a feeling when breaking down the damage between power and condi it just takes your highest and shows that.
Edit: for the record I play Viper’s Condi Rev, so seeing the damage breakdown between condi and power is useful to me. Can we have that back?
downed dps and npc dps doesnt count nemore
Yeah I saw that, but I doubt it would account for half my damage.
Well if downed damage no longer count, it definetly would.
Keep in mind that downed HP is alot. So lets say you 1v1 someone and they dont heal or anything… You do 20K damage on them. Well they got like 50K downed. So if you kill them fully, you did 70K damage old system. Now if you kill them fully, you only did 20K damage.
If it was so easy to make a PvE map have open world PvP then this quote would not be true.
http://www.mmorpg.com/blogs/TemperHoof/072012/23486_Guild-Wars-2-Redefines-Open-World-PVP
“The overall design for Guild Wars 2 does not support fully open world PvP and it would take a prohibitive amount of work to even make it possible. World versus world is our version of open world PvP, and while it isn’t ‘true’ open world PvP for more PvP purists, it does contain many of the elements that make world PvP so exciting. Hopefully it will mostly satisfy people that want open world PvP.” — Mike Ferguson
First, your quote is from 2012. You know, before the time many things that we actually got in GW2 as QoL features was brushed aside as impossible?
Secondly, of course it doesnt support fully open world PvP because there is nothing in GW2 that’s fully open world. WvW instances is PvE instances that’s been stripped for speed. Of course by now we also know he’s absolutely right – more complex PvE events combined with active PvP would be highly likely to completely choke the servers. Anet has proven that with DBL – they couldnt get the oasis event proper so they had to remove it. And that was just one event, a PvE map has many such events. So transplanting PvP on top of current PvE maps might not be ideal, no. But I have little doubt it’s possible if you design the map for it… Because that’s what WvW is. Whether you call it PvE or WvW based on how many NPCs populate it is rather irrelevant.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
How do you know ANet didn’t replace a PvE map with a map with WvW coding for that beta event?
Because it’s the same kitten code? There’s no such thing as a “PvE” map. It’s just a map.
The basic PvP of WvW is just a ruleset that set some people as friendlies (ie those on your server) and others as enemies (ie those on other servers). I bet Anet could probably flip it on in any map in a second, even dynamically as the game is running. Would it be an entire gameplay mode with server sides and capture functionality like in WvW? Of course not. That would require alot of coding to fit the map. But it can still be done.
The funniest times in GW2 is when the artificial gameplay limitations break down, ha. WvW went belly up once and created a megaserver abomination. Everyone joined on random servers across all tiers. You could be in T1 and joined T5 EB. It didnt matter which server you where on. Confusing and funny as hell, the short time it lasted lol.
Yet people would probably argue that you cant possible play WvW on another server than the one you are currently on, that’s not in the code…
Lost another match 475 v 500. A good match. Skilled play by the enemy I suppose. We lost they won, end of story. It happened. GG. And then of course half the team might accept that but the other half become toxic as kitten.
+10 bonus MMR for close calls (lets say 425 points or over, with a limit of 0 MMR so you never gain points for a loss) would make people fight harder instead of giving up around 200-300 points even if a loss is almost certain, it would make close losses feel far less punishing and IMO should make the game overall more fun.
Just musing on random sleepy thoughts.
Considering PvP and PvE are completely separate worlds/platforms in the coding system, an entirely new platform would have to be built into the programming. I don’t know if it’s logistically possible
Completely and utterly false statement.
Anet enabled PvP in Plains of Ashford (ie PvE) during the Shatterer invasion event in the beta of GW2. Players where corrupted by the Shatterer and could engage in combat with regular players (and get instakilled by level 80 Eir and Rytlock NPCs when every player was downscaled to normal PvE level in the zone, lol).
They have never repeated anything close to that event but it most definetly possible.
Plus, Anet says it themselves, on official record – WvW is PvE.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
20 deaths?
That’s kittening easy, I can do that without even trying to kill anything!
Because Anet dont care about the scrapper mechanics. I thought that was obvious by now?
They have proven that with every single nerf and they keep proving it by not fixing stuff or treating the scrapper the same as their lovechild DH with replacements instead of removals.
Well no, but if your wife is a Norn and you are an Asura you might want to invest in a decent quality ladder.
I mean she’s gonna put all your weapons on high shelves all the time.
So what happens when you dont have the “required” classes? Your team automaticly loose the match at the beginning of the round?
For an above average scrapper vs average DH, it should be a long fight where it all depends on who get bursts and heals in. If the DH is noticable worse, it can be quick.
For an above average DH, its a roflstomp because he will do insane amounts of damage by pulling the scrapper into traps at just the right time while the scrapper will struggle to get his own bursts off due to the DH passive/active blocks and heals.
Yesterday I walked onto an empty enemy point and lost like 80% of my HP in a second. The DH was miles away. Now take that kind of pressure and add double trap pops and the DH himself.
Its not really specific to scrapper of course, its either kill or be killed ASAP because the DH will by default have more sustain than other classes built for damage (and if you are a bunker, see first paragraph).
100 blades is a well announced, obvious and kittenty cleave, so yes the engie probably pumped up all the damage reductions at that time.
Yeah, that’s right. 2nd and 3rd get zip. The losing servers, if behind, would truly be incentivized to team up on 1st.
Why on earth should you ever team up on the 1st server with that kind of scoring?
You are two servers. One of you will get 0 points no matter how much you help each other. So helping them when they have a chance to get 1 point and you get 0 points is a loose-loose situation. You dont want them to get 1 point and you dont want to get 0 points.
Or what, do you think the two underdogs will place nice and lazily “trade” 1st place against a server that probably has twice the population and that they cant win over anyway? One of the servers just need to betray the other at the end, stop playing and get them roflstomped to win.
Your suggestion is absolutely laughable.
By this logic you are also 10,000+ shards less for all the weapons, so lets add that too to rewards.
Of course theres gonna be another season with more shards in the future so you will be able to get everything. Thats how sPvP development works, this isnt kittening WvW development.
Well outnumbered you will probably get at some point even on the top ranked server. I think all T1/T2 servers will have enough activity. At the moment we got the winter activities and sPvP season in full swing so WvW activity is a little wonky.
I am on FSP and usually run havoc party/scout tag on borders but the other day we had the option of a 40 man queue to another border or 0 queue to EB, lol. This was right in primetime. First time I have been in EB for like 3 months and I play pretty much every day.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Thanks for your reply!
I think u missunderstood the >100 one.
I just thought newer People will get a Little tutorial and will spawn (Only the fist time they join the lobby) in the Training area.
Ofc they got full acces to the Lobby, and second time they join it, they will spawn where all Players will spawn..
Well its totally wasted effort anyway.
Sadly we got Anet working against us on this, not with us. They removed the tiny little bit of “tutorial” for WvW that we had in Siegerazer (ie an NPC showing you how to take a tower) instead of improving the system.
Population should be based on active in the last 30-60 days with an in-game age of at least 8 hours. I have people in my guild that have not logged in for 2 years or more. lol
Thats how it works (except probably more aggressive than 30-60 days).
Yep. Those 3 DH should definetly switch to 3 thieves or something. Its the players fault.
First, I would like to see how your healing would look like if you played your ele first, then your engie. You might have done so well on the ele because you warmed up with your engie, thus allowing your ele rotations to perform better. Just a thought.
When I was bored this summer, I made a set of minstrel gear. Yeah. That was fun :/
The healing on the engie would have looked just as bad.
There absolutely no comparison in healing potential. An ele is crushingly superior. Ha, I bet an ele just standing in waterform doing nothing heals better than an engie going through all rotations.
Maybe 7 million accounts by now, but at least half is probably secondaries and concurrent users is nowhere near that.
Remove the actual Skyhammer (ie the noobmagnet) from it, delete a few jumppads and its fine IMO.
I had a round on it yesterday and I think I jumped the two godkitten platforms at the center point 10 times or more. Not once did I actually intend to.
What morbid dev at Anet designed that kitten?!?! Bet its the same guy that places logs and impassable branches on the ground in WvW.
Most frustrating is when I have a bloody terrific game personally, and my rating goes down because we lost. I’m talking about where you steal far, and someone comes to take it back, you kill him. Then two come just after and you kill both of them. Then they waste three on you, you run them around in circles for 3 min while keeping it from being capped…. and your somehow down 200 points. Much angrifying. In your head your doing the math and figuring… there are four teammates who are not here and thus could simply stand on a bloody point and have won this game.
So essentially what frustrates me most is the disconnect between when I have my above average for me performances, and then have to watch as I’m demoted points.
Indeed.
I did a duo yesterday and we where both on far keeping 3 enemies occupied for 3+ minutes. In the end we lost the skirmish, but when it was the only point we held all that time you really have to go why? How could the other 3 on my team not cap one of 2 points defended by only 2 people?!?! Hoooooooow… I mean yeah they could have had the same deal. But that would have meant 1 point was completely unattended. Which would be so dumb…
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Thief is a +1 class through and through. If you suck at it, you make your team loose because you didnt bring a DH bunker.
But on the other hand if you are good, then go nuts.
But… but… low skill floor! Easy for noobs yet so easy to kill because they die in a second!! Thats what all the DHs tell us!!!
How is this even possible!?!?!?
OR give us a way to strip boons other than to use throw mine.
Gyros stripping a boon or two when detonating would be neat. But Anet need to balance it in that case, so they will prpbably loose the damage, lightningfield and become stationary. But at least its purity of purpose!
Bigpapasmurf, I dont think I will ever meet you lol. Not that I wouldnt want too, its just that in my now 40 games or so played I have literally never seen another p/p engie. So chances of two meeting is about 0.
The 3-2-1 point system was good and gave us some of the closest matches, including one where all servers were tied with one tick to go.
Yeah… I notice you didnt bother to mention the actual score there, which is probably that 1 have twice as much as 2, which has twice as much as 3 so it wouldnt matter who wins or looses.
Your point would actually apply better on a 2-1-1 system assuming the last 2 servers always came last, ie equal points. Which they generally do, so such a tick would decide the second place, assuming they win the round.
I thought it was because reasons?
I will agree that condi engi/scrapper is superb in a +1 scenario, I will disagree about them not being able to carry when the bunkers suck, as I have been on the carrying (not carried) side of things. Plenty of 1v1’s and 2v1’s won. It appears that you have yet to see one that was capable of holding their own. Someday you will.
Something like a menders hammer scrapper can carry just fine, but a p/p condi build wont be able to stay on point for long alone. Whether you can fight 1v1, 1v2 or 1v3 is irrelevant. That’s not what carry a team (and believe me, I’ve lost matches 200 vs 500 with 500K/40% of team damage done). Even if you win eventually they will almost certainly have contested the point and lost your team 50+ points. That’s why they suck when the bunkers suck.
It’s the same for all +1 really. I just enjoy my scrapper because it’s not a super cheesy omni-reflect confusion mesmer or perma-evade cheese thief.
Well, that and I have Hope.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
We know that the guard double traps are stupid OP and we know that the warrior healing signet+adrenal health is just as much stupid OP.
Theres no mystery. Guardians and warriors are Anets babies and they never gonna nerf them like other classes. Just look at the treatment of scrapper gyros vs dh traps. Everything nerfed to the ground yet once DH traps came up on the balancing table they replaced daze instead of simply removing it like on the super stronk gyros.
Definetly preferential treatment and I dare anyone at Anet to dispute that.
Sorry but people don’t play scrapper for function Gyro. The real difference between scrapper with hammer and other builds is the fact that you have :
– great sustain , you get a lot of regen , much more than without scrapper
- damage and defense on the same weapon so you can have much better condi cleans from utilities .
U have much more sustain with hammer scrapper and you can stay on point. You can not do the same easily with condi engi and it is a huge difference in a capture game
Well I dont know about you but I definetly dont play p/p scrapper for the hammer.
Condi (scrapper or not) is not on point sustain. It’s a +1 through and through that does best when zipping between points doing drive by shootings. It’s a really hardy +1 too that destroys other +1 built classes (or in the case of low hp classes like thieves, 2 of them at once).
Problem is, +1 cant carry when the bunkers suck.
You will also have 30 minute queues because there will be few playing pointless PvP, but that’s a small price to pay, I agree.
Also, I play it for the ascended gear. Suck on that, woooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
No it was to reach as many DHs as possible in a match.
Meeeeh I play to complete a 2/6 ascended set I had on one of my main WvW characters. After that kitten you sPvP I wont look back.
Getting the ascended depend on how often you win. I already got 2 new pieces and thats been like 30ish matches, but I had a really bad loss streak where I got nothing so that was pointless. A wild guess is something like 40ish wins to complete it for 5 pieces?
Should be pretty much same as 6 months ago.
Keep in mind that right now we got PvE events going, sPvP season where everyone scramble to get incredibly easy ascended gear and its that time in the winter where activity drop normally because everyone is so freaking depressed that its not christmas vacation yet or not drunk enough.
Wait maybe the later is just me. Whatever.
L2p, kite a warrior and its dead.
How do you kite someone when you are forced to stay on a circle 3m wide where you are pretty much always in melee range?
Just curious, you seem to have found a solution to this.
The only game I lost tonight I knew I deserved to lose. Whether the matchmaking was correct to place me vs a play duo ele/necro is another story. They shut down my block heal every time perfectly, although I could take down the necro easy enough if I split his ele off prior. Didn’t lose more than 10 for it so w/e.
We’ve all been in games where the team truly deserved to loose. The problem is, what about the rest?
Yesterday I lost 10 matches in a row. That’s almost -400 MMR. Yeah no kitten. I lost 30-40 points per match. A couple of of the matches was lost badly, true. But 6 of those matches was lost with 450+ points on our team. It was like a curse. Victory or loss was a matter of seconds and those 6 rounds where really good games. I would even dare to say perfectly matched for all intents and purpose. But unfortunetly for me, I was always on the loosing team.
In this situation, the game basicly says kitten you stupid kitten noob you’re not allowed to have good game you kittenwad so here’s -40 points because you failed to kill the stupid kittening NPC for 25 points 3 seconds before the enemy kittening did. You suck. Now go win 3 matches in a row to make up for your kittenness. Haha j/k, lets make you loose 490 vs 500 next kittening round and give you another kittening -40 points. You still suck.
Isnt the entire point of the MMR to have even matches? Why kittening bother if you get punished just as much as a complete blowout when loosing them…
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
If its equal skill, my vanilla condi engi build has yet to lose to a scrapper (came close once in WvW…but not quite).
While I can agree with that in theory (I run wanderer p/p and doubt replacing scrapper would impact my 1v1 killing power vs another scrapper by much), the reason you run scrapper is to get the all-powerfull stomp gyro. That little beauty win fights. I just wish I could slap some lipstick on it, a wig and marry it.
Assuming that you can only gather a “small” 30 man force against zoneblobs completely blocking every exit, a single server would need to bring around 3 blobs on enemy borders and at least twice that to block citadel. EB spawns are a little worse if you get a bad color, but lets say 3 blobs for a blockade like a border.
So if a single server can bring the 1000+ players required to control spawns across all WvW maps and literally break the server limitations, they deserve to spawncamp you.
I believe you are mistaken. The correct MMR placement math is:
rand(account_luck)
That is all.
Full blowouts is irrelevant.
I just lost 120 points by loosing 3 matches in a row – 475 vs 500, 475 vs 500 (yes literally same), kitten vs 500.
Edit: Haha the last was unintended. But it’s perfect. I cant believe Anet censor the actual number four hundred fifty five.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Placement games are pretty much luck. They have a disproportionate amount of influence where you end up in the season. ANet NEEDS to do placement differently for next season. Ten games is just not enough to determine how skilled you are, it distorts the otherwise workable system ANet created.
The real question is, do they intentially pit placement players against random players in very high tiers?
After having done the 10 placement games, that’s my only conclusion. I had 7 losses in a row going up against impossible odds. Two of those losses in particular was me doing 20% of total round damage (ie 40% of team) so I was hardly lagging behind in the activity. I’m far from the best player but I really did try. Of course many players will be good enough to overcome those odds – if they do they deserve it.
Then came the very first real round… completely blowout victory, it was stupid easy. Meh. Stupid RNG.
Well placement will always be random. I just joined 4 games (8/10 played so far) and lost all 4. Because of course. Not a chance. Did ~25% of the teams damage every round so didnt lag behind, but nope. With completely random players you’d imagine that at least one game some carrying player would have joined your team instead of 2-3 on the other side every godkitten game. That’s gonna do wonders for my rank placement.
But you know what? I dont give a flying kitten. This is no different from how kittenty random sPvP have been for almost 5 years now.
I also believe their needs to be fewer “guard” or “bulwark gyro” type skills in the game where you get essentially another stack of prot that can’t be removed.
I thought you could remove bulwark by destroying the gyro, but maybe I hallucinated that.
Did you even play Season 1 or Season 2 where having a war on your team was a guaranteed loss?
The percieved weakness of classes in sPvP depend on the strength of other classes due to the 5 man limit in a group. That doesnt mean that individual aspects of a class – like the passive heal of a warrior running healing signet – has been any less OP during that time.
Plain simple math that anyone can understand.
Look at your average enemy warrior with percentage bars on and you will see that health regen minimum 5% every second. A warrior have a minimum of 19200 hp, but most will have marauder or similar. So the Warrior regen 1000+ health a second. Thats the eqvivalent of any other class popping their active heal on a 4-6s cooldown. While doing almost as much damage as possible. Other classes can come close to that kind of healing yes but they have to sacrifice alot in terms of offensive power.
And thats why the warrior has been OP since release. You notice this now? No one cares anymore. Anet dont care and we dont care. Lets nerf the other classes some more. Oh and buff guardians. They need it.
Last match I played we tried to 2v1 a bunker guard that was basicly unkillable without perfect focus and a ton of CC. I imagine he could could have held any point 1v1 indefinetly. So still seems plenty viable.
Personally I fail to see the point though. A DH thats slightly less tanky will do a ton more damage with traps.
