As for his health, he already has half the normal health of other legendary creatures, and his toughness is scaled down as well. I don’t imagine I will lower his health down any further since I have watched groups kill him in just 2 tries.
List group comp please with build set. Was this a completely random pug? Was it all dungeon masters? Was anyone new? Were you all DPS builds (as getting 5 competent DPS builds through a complete PUG’s is a REALLY good achievement).
Wonder if anyone in that group was condition build? Prolly not.
They are working on fixing the disconnect issue, and there are countless developer posts reassuring us of that. However, it is not a simple task, so give them some time. If it really bothers you that much, just don’t do FotM until it’s fixed! There’s plenty of other stuff to do in the meantime.
The problem with that attitude is that people that have been doing dungeons have spent countless hours posting bugs that have been ignored. We have had multiple posting about how to update explorable mode to make it “more fun” (as dungeons are some of the weakest link in the game, but are the one thing aside from WvW to actually do). It took around 3 weeks for them to fix the Arah door on Borlis pass….then it broke again when fractals came out. Big surprise. This patch may have fixed it or not I really don’t care anymore since Fractals came out, but by an entire month of the endgame dungeon that is required for their own personal story (which I completed way back thankfully) is a sign of wrong priorities.
When doing this boss legit before the patch the mobs would despawn after you hit the seal. I don’t think constantly spawning mobs is intended(crosses fingers).
This is only on lower fractals. Higher set after you break the seal they do not despawn iirc. They do however stop from respawning till next set.
At this point I have an idea to work around the adds, but with the amount of dev fixes it is too much to say.
Yes, it sucks that they didn’t fix actual issues. But those fixes can be the next step.
Because actually fixing the game people play. That stuff is a 2nd priority. Logic FTW.
Can’t afk shoot anymore? How horrible!
AKA:
I have never done dungeons as a serious dungeon runner, but I can comment on those that do!
The fight sucked the way it is structured. It always has. Making it harder isn’t fixing the problem…
@Jezath
It is a game. Were not bank robbing and taking an old grannies life savings. It is a game. Also it is because of posts like yours the devs have no clue where real attention needs work.
Trahaerne is a solid vehicle for accommodating all that needed to unfold in the story. And putting the PC in the effective role of Kingmaker—as the power behind the throne—wasn’t a bad idea at all.
A dull voice acted, and poorly written character is hardly ever a good idea.
@Skotie
Well I wouldn’t say that is it entirely. Its partly it.
For example:
Certain fractals are proportionally out of whack compared to others. The dredge one might as well BE an explore dungeon for how long it is structured: Puzzle/Puzzle/trash/Puzzle/Mini boss with huge HP pool + trash/trash/Final boss with huge HP pool. It is just TOO long, and thus people wanted to cut the time down. I would say if they cut out the fat from some of the fractals it would have gone better. Even the ice level is slightly pushing length due to Svanir bosses having some sort of built in racial of – Too much hp (Go check HoTW for an example).
Make them like the underwater one – Trash/puzzle/boss. Thats ALL we need. Nobody I knew really exploited underwater (or I just didn’t know anyone, but I did a lot of pugs). They didn’t bother because there just really isn’t a need to shorten it, it is a perfect fractal length.
The bigest joke in GW2 is the “play your own way”
….
….
I want an instant kill button. I mean it said I could play your own way! Where is my instant kill button!
Ohh I also want a button to summon 100 gold! It said I could “Play your own way”, so that obviously means I don’t have to worry about in game gold at all!
Also where are my guns! I want guns and 360lolz no scopes, cause “Play your own way” said so.
Life is about making choices. You have to choose to cheat and I have dropped a pug on more than one occasion because they wanted to take ridiculous shortcuts.
Screenshot your fractal level please. If you pug and drop groups for exploits I want to see if your post 20.
As far as community MMO gameplay wise – GW2 is horrid in the PvE department. WvW is another story though I suppose.
You were able to fix exploits in a matter of days, but when it comes to making a dungeon not disconnect, or at least open it up like the other dungeons instead of the “no rejoin” policy? I’m quickly losing faith in your programming abilities.
Well lets be honest. It doesn’t seem like this “emergency” path (as devs RUSHED to fix exploits) was tested in any serious manner. It is clearly evident by the gamebreaking bugs the path iteself introduced.
Seriously? You bugged jumping AND the fractal that you fixed an exploit that allowed easy completion.
I thought I read that anyone could join in at the highest-level player’s fractal to stop this ridiculous fracturing. Now instead of one extra dungeon to LFG for we have 30.
I really want to enjoy dungeons in this game. Please let me.
No. You can only join the lowest players fractal number. If you want to progress you must find 5 player ALL equal in fractal difficult.
Mind numbing how someone could think this would be good for the community.
GW1 was boring. Hit 20, finish story mode and nothing really to do.
AC story can already be soloed. I am sure some others can be soloed, too if you are skilled.
Also trivializing already easy content 3 months after release because people are too lazy to search a group is a bad idea.
It is people like this who are clueless. Lets see here:
According to the GW2LFG site at the moment I posted 9/211 entries have people LFG for story mode (I am including all dungeons). 3/9 players are looking for AC story as of right now. This is a sample of everyone across all servers. Players within the server are similar. I suppose it would be possible to log how many Fractals/exp vs Story mode there is, but only someone with a blindfold would say there is no difference.
Think of that. 9/211 players want to do story mode, and 3/9 of those want to do the same as him. You think that is working as intended?
NA region.
Now lets fast forward two years and two expansions. You think story will still be holding up?
Oh no, you can’t do jumping puzzles today. Truly the end of the world.
You don’t do fractals do you?
Understand that the people doing these jobs are human beings just like yourself and that in a real workplace environment solving problems isn’t as simple as receiving it on your desk and churning out a solution 2 minutes later.
It isn’t my concern if a bug is “hard” to fix or not. Nor should it be ANY players concern. That is why they hire professions for. Our is to see it fixed and that is it. The coders have to deal with difficulty fixing whatever problems occur.
@Hunter: Doubt it or else they would post it (Why not?)
They are too busy fixing exploits to bother fixing the actual fractal system/lfg system/core mechanics.
Well there ya go Exploit thread. Way to delay fixes for important stuff.
Similarly, WoW was RNG, and unless you ran 25s and ONLY 25s, you always stood the risk of getting raid tokens that nobody could use. Or wanted to use, if they had that piece already. It’s still RNG regardless of how you look at it.
The problem is that in WoW 5 man/10 man/25 man vs GW2 fractal chest is this. You get one chance per daily for a ring (which goes up as you progress). In dungeons in WoW and EQ both it works like this: (Using WoTLK as an example since that is when I last played)
http://www.wowhead.com/npc=26731
That is one of the first bosses killed in the nexus. It has a 100% chance to drop atleast one item and tokens if on the right difficulty (iirc thats how it worked token wise). It may not drop something you can use – you are correct, but it still DROPS something. Although due to the nature of dungeons in WoW you had multiple bosses so the nexus had:
4 total boss mobs. Each with a loot table. So there are plenty of chances at loot for at least one of your part members. This isn’t even counting for Daily Dungeons or Dungeon quests.
On GW2 Ascended ring side:
Jade maw has a HIGH chance to drop nothing other than tokens (which you get your fill of anyway) and a low chance of dropping a ring, COMBINED with a chance of dropping non pre infused rings post level 20 (which to me is like having WoW heroics dropping non-heroic gear. Its simple wasting your time), COMBINED with a chance of dropping a ring that does not suit your character. This happens to ALL 5 players. It isn’t uncommon to go through fractals and all 5 players recieve nothing worthwhile from the Jade Maw.
Remember you get one shot per daily than you have to wait on your lockout…I mean daily timer. To get the equal amount of chances at loot as lets say the nexus from WoW you would need to be at least level 40+ on fractals to have 4 boss encounters.

Thanks for the info Stof. Can definitely see that. The idea of using the fractal itself as the level selection is something ANet should look into to ease up all this overflow hopping were having to do now.
Yeah, it is a stupid decision especially since Explorables were all cross server. Not sure why ANet decided “Lets fix this part of our dungeons that people like and it works. I mean we will have guesting by 2015 or whatever!”. GW2LFG site works fine as usually someone is in some sort of overflow.
You can see in long-lived MMOs like EQ that, over time, some “exploits” become moulded into tactics by the playerbase and eventually utterly incorporated into legitimate gameplay. Kiting, for instance, was once in that nebulous realm between legitimate tactic and mechanics exploit.
Feign Death was another big one. Was originally intended to allow monks to drop agro similar to rouges ability to hide mid-combat. Then people began to split with it and a new game mechanic that defined the way class was played. Something that directly changed the role of the entire class.
Most exploits speed up the dungeon run or minimize deaths, no matter which way you look at it. If they did not they wouldn’t be used (why take longer and have a higher risk of death?). If dungeons were all underwater length and they fixed the exploits I don’t think many would mind, but the ones people exploit the most on are /shock the more longer drawn out fractals (Dredge/Cliffside for instance).
(edited by Dead.7385)
As a big supporter of F2P.
I say not really. There is no real benefit other than maybe players that felt “gated” by the initial fee. Xmas is soon to come and the would alleviate that problem. Don’t jump on it yet, let the new year come and to see what happens.
First I want to say that Fractals should follow Trash/Puzzle/mini/short trash/boss. A combination (harpies) is excellent toward the future.
1. Dredge – Too long. Feels like you were going toward more exp length. Cut out the entire first section (most people skip anyway) and just leave Door puzzle + Mini boss + Trash (Mini boss event has a ton of filler trash as well) +Final boss. I would also advice to remove this from lower end fractals. This one is frustrating for newcomers to dungeons.
2. Underwater – Perfect length and use. Trash/puzzle/Boss. Quick, but you still get loot. HP on boss needs a very slight reduction. Nothing too big since cages do nice dmg.
3. Asura – Remove the first part with the cages. Its dungeon padding at its worst. Beating on champions for no reward really sucks. Make it – Trash/Puzzle/Old tom/trash/boss. Short sweet and simple. As of now it is: Trash/mini event/puzzle/Mini Boss/Trash/boss. Bit too long for what fractals should be.
4. Swamp – Remove swamp from lower end fractals. Perfect the way it is, but can be frustrating for newcomers.
5. Underwater – Good except WAY too much hp. Mini boss is harder than final boss by a long shot. Whats with ANet and making Svanir bosses have truckloads of hp? HoTW has this exact same problem.
6. Ascalon – Love it. Keep it as is. Maybe remove it from lower end fractals due to players not knowing in’s and out’s while also being new (lets face it going “straight” towards the door sucks for newbies), so possible remove it from lower end fractals.
7. Lava – Lava is fine. One of the hardest high end and easiest low end. Since all mobs are easily skipped it follows a great formula – Trash event/puzzle/mini/ optional trash/boss. Love that about this one.
8. Cliffside – Really like this one. Perfect as is, even though it is longer the mechanics are just too good to pass up. That and I can’t think of any part to really remove that wouldn’t make it look awkward.
It would be nice to ease players into fractals with easier ones. So I would say for 1-4 Easy fractals only and start adding more every other level (as people get used to dungeons).
It is rather funny that all the defenders evade the simple problem:
Total RNG with a chance at nothing sucks. END of story. It was a stupid mechanic back in 1999 in Everquest a game built on camping and grinding, and it is a stupid mechanic in GW2 a game released in 2012.
Let me put it like this:
The 2012 version of Everquest 1 – ALL nameds drop at least one item of use. There is no “nothing on the named” symptom we have with the Jade Maw. The devs of the game realized killing mobs to get nothing was not fun, nor has it ever been fun. It is sad that GW2 devs don’t realize this. They fail at loot tables. They make it either too easy (exp token system) or too frustrating (Fractal RNG drop rate).
I have YET to hear any viable defense to RNG other than “you don’t need it”, but that is hardly the point.
To me the “you don’t need it” debate sounds like saying Corpse runs and dropping all items on you body is a good idea, because if you don’t die you don’t have to run!
That kind of proves the OP’s point though.
Look at the MASS difference between Exp and Fractals. It’s telling.

I probably will stop doing fractals at lvl 10 for this reason. And then move to my long-term goals, building a legendary, a good tPvP team, and a good WvW squadron.
I don’t mean to be elitist, but….don’t talk about people trying to be “good” at agony resist when your not even at 20. At level 10 you don’t even NEED agony resist to fight. It helps, but isn’t required.
At level 20 it becomes something to worry about as PuGs w/o agony resist will be downed by jade maw regardless. If you have a group of them, better hope the one with Agony resist has good dodge skills or a spy kit to rez with.
But then, why are you even doing Fractal 20… to get even more rings or backpiece?
As for why we need to do 20 is so we get pre infused agony resist. At level 10 the max resist you can have currently is 20 -X2 ring + Pre Infused Back – (iirc you can make pre-infused back before 10+), at level 20 that jumps up to 30 – +10 pre infused + 10 slotted. It becomes heavily needed to alleviate Jade Maw’s agony, or if your a normal human help when you get hit with agony (which since this is an MMO and relies heavily on connection/Hardware will happen at one point).

A lot of people are angry that their exploit got fixed.
No. A lot of people are mad that ANet hotfixes and “jumps on” various exploits like these (well some of them) but ignores dungeon bugs that prevent players from completing them cough Explorables/Fractals cough.
If the bug fixing crew had the same strength as the exploit smashing crew these dungeons wouldn’t have these problems.
Loot tables? What are those!
Bah humbug all RNG
You are probably both right. I remember back when I was still doing exp prices were sometimes off. Some dungeons had different prices for different items (chest/shoulders iirc) This may or may not have been fixed recently and upped to the correct amount (doubt it). That is probably what you are seeing.
Of course it has been awhile since I went and checked prices or did explores so /shrug.
Hope this helps. ……yeah ANet needs to rethink this “design” here.
Europe is harder I am sure, but at least you can filter for your region. Sucks you can’t group with us across the lake. That was something I loved about EQ1 as I used to raid in a Euro guild as an American ha.
It is kind of sad ANet just can’t figure out how loot tables work. Ironically old WoW/New Everquest can have players leave with nothing but feel better about doing it, Because at least someone got a reward. Sad thing is in this state even though all 5 players get their own loot you can leave with all 5 players getting absolutely nothing useful vs at least one player getting something good (usually instances in WoW/EQ had 3-4 bosses so 3-4 players would get at least something or you would have 3-4 tries at loot).
Newer WoW even added badges so everyone got something. Odd how WoW did that but ANet is hesitant to add ascended (non-back) items to the vendor. Ohh well at least now I have 3 20 slot bags so I can’t complain.
GW2 – nope one boss one try. Total RNG if it even drops or not. Its like 1999 classic Everquest design, rare mob + rare loot = not fun. Everything else is just fluff loot for ecto’s/vendor trash. Thrilling I know…
Storywise, it would not make sense as none of the players themselves have been ascended.
GW1 Ascension /=/ GW2 Ascension.
For example:
Storyline wise does it make sense that ascalonian captain/dredge/random cultist/Swamp bosses (tree/mossman)/Son of Svanir/A harpy shaman/forgot etc
And most of all: A jellyfish
They apply agony a spell in which only the most powerful casters (mursaat) had. Now Jellyfish seem to know about it. Weird how those story line things get mixed up
Okay, I hope this gets ArenaNets attention… it’s something that utterly pisses me off when going for groups in dungeons.
A lot of people ask to “skip” various parts of dungeons for the sake of “saving time”… why do I find this annoying? ArenaNet has made content there for you to enjoy so, how can you enjoy content when you are skipping it?
You enjoy killing trash mobs? Well I don’t so therefore I do NOT enjoy the trash mob content they provide. What I do enjoy is finding the most efficient way to bypass them.
I have done hundreds of dungeon runs by now and killing more trash for absolutely no reward is not on my top of the list.
Ill play the game as “intended” when they fix all the bugs stopping people from completing dungeons and wasting our time “cough” Arah “Cough”.
Cheers! Give this person a drink!
You want us to run it? Fix it THEN fix the bugs. It isn’t my fault. Obviously fixing sploits is the least of their worries.
You ever been to explorables? You ever pull the spider queen from her room? Ranged the tree boss? Pull kholer single? Stacked on SA? Those have been here since BWE on. Those were never fixed and neither were the mass amount of bugs in exp – so suck it up.
And if you’re pro enough, no-one will notice that you have 0 resistance.
Wrong: Jade maw applies Agony regardless. You can’t evade it. It applies it multiple times as you progress through each Phase. He was kicked at level 20 which if you have 0 Agony resist it is very doubtful you will live through Maw’s Agony hit. Even at 15 resist it packs a punch and I have to heal through it.
I have heard that Endure Pain can help get by some agony, but still….
It will be fixed when they reimburse people that bought AC/CM 1.0 exotic’s.
AKA: Never.
GoD was the EQ screw up way way more than anything PoP had. For the mere fact that they tuned the raids/end group for level 70’s, but didn’t increase the level beyond 65. It was so bad it caused EQ to just die out.
That and everyone hates discord theme.
General explore/AC grind – get a good team and you will get tons of $$$ + tons of xp. You will also earn enough tokens that by the time you hit 80 you will have a full set of exotics waiting for you – IIRC AC gives P/T/V which is a great starter set till you figure out exactly what you want (or stick with it).
If that’s not a pioneer, tell me who/what is.
Tag you’re it.
Brad McQuaid help “pioneer” the Everquest franchise which kickstarted MMO’s into a full 3D world, which still last and is supported today. If it wasn’t for UO/EQ WoW/GW might have been VERY different since WoW was made with the ideas founded though Everquest ideals (levels/classes/dungeons/raids systems etc) but with a more streamlined approach to both PvE/PvP I would call that a mark to be made.
Then he went on to make Vanguard, and we saw what happens when someone is unwilling to listen to others for advice or ignore the non-internal/critiques of the game.
People make mistakes – shocking I know.
(edited by Dead.7385)
Getting hit while they aren’t facing you is quite annoying. Bug most likely as they shouldn’t be able to “eat” you from their kitten
Do you honestly think that you’re supposed to down the boss solo, then go mop up the trash back at the spawn point? There’s plenty of space in the room to use whatever unique group tactics you like. Again, it’s an easy fight without cheesing.
Sooooo….
What about Kholer? You know, that boss in AC explore that you pull down to single him away from his two adds? That has been in the game SINCE BWE.
Yeah they were running to go fix that one /roll eye’s.
It may not be obvious to you (which is totally understandable) that this team is spinning many plates at a time and sometimes we miss things. So let me explain how we came to design there being no repair point in fractals:
- We wanted groups to win encounters through skill rather than blind force, therefore…
- We removed rez rushing. We removed way points and replaced them with checkpoints that could only be used when the whole group was down, this meant….
- That group members would spend more time keeping players alive resulting in less deaths. Should a group come across an encounter that is to hard…
- They would stop playing or spend the time to work out the encounter or both.
- We absolutely did not want players continually running into their deaths.
- The decision was therefore made that there was no need for repair points.
Add a repair anvil that spawns after the death of the final boss encounter → boom genius here. Players can’t repair zerg or have to exit, and players can fix before the next fractal. Still makes it worthy to have a canister, but not as harsh as having: 2/3 hard fractals in a row then Jade maw on top of it with no repair.
Here is what I do:
Have all 5 attack burrow -> move to next burrow. Thats about it. Gravelings tend to follow so they die in crossfire. Just move and move and move. Did it with a group that had two 40-50ish necro’s + 80 condition ranger (I am a warrior), and I forgot the other as it was just a random. If you got some warriors -> Frenzy -> Might/fury + (for me) Charr racial might/fury -> Elite signet -> DPS burrow like crazy. There isn’t much damage getting dealt to you if gravelings don’t have time to spawn after all.
The worst thing that can happen is to fall behind and let too many mounds pop – they have a set amount and then stop spawning. If you are low DPS and your having trouble keeping up it is PERFECTLY fine to allow one crystal to die. Don’t worry on it. Kill burrows till they don’t spawn. As long as one lives your find so if your playing catch up and only one is getting hurt don’t mind it and continue on burrows.
Then wait.
OP, pull up your diapers, start your own group instead of waiting for someone to pick you up in theirs.
Doesn’t do much if your starting a group but others aren’t on YOUR fractal number is it? To ignore a VERY easy to notice problem is either ignorance or stupidity. I am guessing one, which do you think I am guessing? The problem will get worse.
Or have you just never noticed story mode problems that even DEVS have stated is a problem? Probably not, you seem to have a blindfold on
But just wait till people leave and newblood isn’t welcomed, bet you will be happy with the 0 playerbase then.
Btw I pugged to 22 – so don’t even start.
(edited by Dead.7385)
Fix fractal DC first before exploits:
But yes Dredge/Asura/cliffside often have exploits. If you run pugs i’m quite sure you know by now.
Fractals are made even worse by the fact that you have to do them with other players. Nothing kills an MMO faster than being forced to play it with the other players.
Everquest and WoW want a word with you.
So your server hates Orr? I don’t blame them…
