Agreed. It is only MORE irritating that the last patch was maintenance only. Seriously? I thought the devs were going to fix the “only rewards at end of dungeon” problem. The leader problem. Etc.

I’ve been spamming dungeons for the last 3 weeks. I love them. I haven’t found PvE in a mmorpg as challenging as this since Everquest.
Lets be honest here CH chains weren’t hard. The later stuff they did in VoA was insane though. :P
1: (Quick dungeons) For a totally new PuG most explorable will be a min 40M – 1hr. For an casual pug 30-40 mins. For a good group less than 20 mins. Personal best in HoTW EM path 1 was 19 mins, and I know I can be beat by better players.
2: Depends on dungeon and path. If you want to ease into dungeon do HoTW path 1. By far the easiest and quite short imo. Then you can move over to stuff like TA UP path/AC path 2/1.
3: No clue. I got my build from early release from GW: Guru, but mine is really standard banner build. Their are some sites that list builds such as:

But it is up to you really as their isn’t one be all end all build (as far as I know).
4: The loot from chests are mostly vendor trash and trash mobs have same random loot table as mobs their level.
Although**** the 26 silver + tokens can make some nice profit once your already in full gear. For example each HoTW path you run nets you at bare min 26 silver + “X” in RNG loot. It grants you 60 tokens to buy 2 rares that can be salvaged for ecto’s to be sold for an additional 15-16 silver. Some dungeons are better money makers than others.
5: Depends on if you bother with underwater weapons. Lets assume you don’t
For me: 2280 tokens total (mace/shield – Longbow) you are granted 60 tokens a day so at one dungeon path per day it is roughly 38 days. If you do two paths a day (120 tokens) it is cut down to 19 total runs. All depends on your playstyle. If you toss in the extra path (usually people run 2/3 of a path, but lets assume you get a dungeon group) is roughly 12 runs.
Ascalonian Catacombs story is harder than any explorer path imo.
Those mobs of rangers, eles, and warriors waiting for you in those tight nit hallways where there’s no real room to properly CC or dodge?

Skins can be quite awful.
Other than that most dungeons are fine (aside from certain mini’s). Trash don’t take that long to kill the majority of the time, but certain bosses (looking at you HoTW plunder path) have a gross amount of hp.
Rip out raid replace those ideas inside open world dungeon and you got yourself a deal.
Agreed. A better combat log would go a long way to improve looking over PvE as well as PvP.

Would want rare quality gear for the first completion of the jumping puzzle then make it hand out 1/2 blues as a reward afterwards. That way the first time you might get something useful and then if a friend needs you at least get a blue.

They are essentially open world dungeons. They are easier than the SM/EM dungeons though. I personally am glad to see them add more. I want some really touch open world dungeons filled with veterans roaming around and nice chest loots.

There are tons of money sinks (TS with little use / WvW / repair / armor / trait upgrade cost / etc), but almost nothing to spend money on at max level.
After you get exotics only thing that will make you spend $$$ is WvW or buying gems. I am in that boat atm, have my main fully bag unlocked and 3 bank tabs unlocked + digital deluxe bought through gold. Go Go dungeon cash.
Those big hearts on the map are basically side quests.
Quest “chains” are replaced with Dynamic events as when completed some will kick off other events nearby.
I would love to use gold to buy "Saved’ builds and swap to them. Might have a use for gold other than unlocking bank tabs (Up to 3 unlocked now).
As for the party search the reason nobody knows about it is the horrible implementation of it + it is hidden inside the UI social options.
I don’t get it, I did all of my story mode with a condition specced necro and never died on any of the missions. I would’ve thought other professions would have had it easier.
EM IS easier than the majority of SM. Just look at TA for an easy example. On UP path the hardest boss is the first one (Giant wurm) imo. All the others if you know what to do you basically never die.
The problem is that as time goes on more and more people will ignore SM leaving out those real new players without the ability to finish SM progression nor their personal story.
Yup. Difficulty and time are almost polar opposite for a majority of SM/EM dungeons.
Said it before and will say it again: Revamp SM to be solo dungeons. It will only get harder and harder for new players as time goes on and on.

My warrior is tank/support with the ability to kite so thats 2/3 right there +1 for Crowd control from longbow. (Banner warrior wielding mace/shield – Longbow)
Just because you aren’t keeping agro 24/7 doesn’t make you not a tank. Also healing spring from rangers = best way to AE heal (dropping banner on top of it does a nice AoE heal) + constant condition removes (DECURSE DECURSE DECURSE).
The main difference from holy trinity is that it will not keep you alive 24/7. Got hit by an ae? No magic bandage going to put you at 100% unless well you have a guardian which CAN heal major wounds. Well unless he isn’t specced like that.
To OP:
That run will shortly go down to less than 30 mins if done right. It really is kind of shocking how less of a beating you take when you ran the dungeon so many times.

More likely the legions of WoW haters that have hyped up so many games in the last few years hoping to see someone kill off WoW. Once again the game did not come close to matching the hype.
Those are the best types. They want to play the most popular game to feel popular. Not because it is fun. If it isn’t popular YOU CAN’T PLAY IT and it is made into a failure.
You aren’t gonna presuade me and others that run explorables to run SM for 1/2 credit. Here is why:
The SM takes you through the ENTIRE dungeon, while explorable cuts that up.
SM bosses and trash are usually tougher than some explorable dungeons.
If you are running SM than you most likely are 100% new to the dungeon and will make the run take longer.
A run that can take 20 mins in explorable can run between 40-60 in SM (TA/HoTW for example).
The easiest solution is to make SM soloable and reduce the rewards. It was stated back in Beta that SM being a forced 5 man dungeon with little reward wouldn’t hold later on. It will crack and break 6 months in. Even worse they tied the personal story to Arah 5 man instance.
Can’t wait till people can’t finish their personal story due to nobody running Arah SM.
A lot of dungeon armor isn’t that great looking tbh. It is really odd since they are supposed to be the “best” skins for armor so you could compare them to Legendaries. And yet nowhere near it.
Kinda sad the armor doesn’t glow. I got the weapon just like you denial (mace though) and I love it. The armor looks bland, but if it has a ghostly glow at night it would definitely look better.
I am not sure what the difference would be between 5 man dungeons and 10 man dungeons. In guild wars 2 it would all end up basically the same except hp/dmg values.
I personally don’t think not having a sub fee is going to keep ppl here as much as others seem to.
And a sub fee cuts more purchases from happening entirely.
And no WoW is not a usable example.
Ok first. How would this be done without interfering with the game at all? Tossing in random PvP somewhere doesn’t make PvP good at all if the components don’t work with it.
The DE scaling system would go BONKERS with Open World PvP. I can just image people running a team of 10 and grefing lower levels by upscaling DEs and camping their Meta events. Add on top of that allied NPC’s won’t even assist the lower level player.
Games with open world PvP have to be built ground up to support it. No way in any shape does the PvE world in GW2 support any PvP aside from duels and arena inside cities/hidden.
If it is fun then it is fun. If it is not then it is not.
Doesn’t matter if it is a clone or something completely new. Never understood those people who ignore something because it is too different/too much of a clone.
Worse thing about giganticus is:
The fact you have AI during phase 1.
The shadowbolt attack is annoying.
Other than that phase 1 is rather cake. When we did it had most on range but me + another warrior just swing melee till grubs spawned on us which died fast. Slowed down the fight but really makes sure you get them.
Phase 2 – Kite and live. Dodge etc.
Phase 3 – Can melee him (I did) and just dodge attacks. Got caught in bubble sometimes but was able to get out of it.
Also if you get far enough away inside his room you can OOC regen yourself back up. Just make sure people have agro on him.
Path 1 burrow fight?
2 players guard Hodgins. Do NOT kill nearest burrow. Kill all others till your left with nearest. Kill in order then. Make sure people focus fire and burn burrows. Two players can easily defend hodgins for quite awhile.
I guarded hodgins as a 80 warrior tanky stated with a lvl 36 mesmer backing me up (as I felt he would live longer going one on one vs them rather than DPSing burrows).
Path 3 I have still yet to do. With a group of 60’s – 80’s best we got was 80%. This was the first time in that path though.
Stuns, roots, fears + range. Plenty of ways to deal with him
Just make SURE you use assist target in the knight. That way pugs will DPSDPSDPS him rather than the necro’s/random target.
Also if the moon is full and aligned correctly I believe the on knight in the pack in explorable can be single pulled by a pet.
It was really odd.
They talked about all the mini-games they would have. Built one for Beta. Then ripped out a really interesting one. Sad.

I kinda wish auto attack would work correctly. For example if you max max range the TA boss as a warrior with longbow it doesn’t auto attack. So I end up going 111111111111111111111 F1 1111111111111111111 etc.
Go to Norn starter area -> Go to bear shrine -> Catch fish. → Profit.
As a bonus you can eat it and feed it to bears.
Exploit has no solid meaning. One thing might be an exploit while another that does the exact same thing isn’t an exploit. It is and always has been up to the dev on a case-by-case basis. I highly doubt they will ban you for doing that in Rata Sum, but they would pull a hammer if you did that with keeps (if they ever bothered to catch you or do something).
Pulling mobs is a prime example. Been done in MMO’s forever, yet certain fights people cry exploit because you pulled a certain mob. Others it is considered tactics and the correct thing to do (not charging into a group but rather single pulling those that are nasty out first).
Full automated LFG usually breeds bad community, spoiled brats and tons of griefers. Its not hard to find a group or does it require too much effort. (for example kicking non-lvl80 player that come from the finder)
We already have people that vote kick others at the end of the dungeon to invite their guildies/friends.
It isn’t that hard since they can freely swap servers w/o paying. No real penalty.
According to that image one AE from a longbow shot on a warrior can knockout 1/2 of those blooms in one shot.
Dungeons are hardly dead. I do them everyday.
But anyways, they said that a loot revamp will be done on next major patch.
Those quaggans have WAY too many HP for a couple of adds. I swear just as much as the boss.
Yup. Not sure who thought up the idea of having group instance starter be the sole owner of the entire instance. It should pass between others like in most MMO’s.
SM is too long and has no reward for casuals other than basically “keying” you for far easier Explorable dungeons <well most of the time>. Even then you can be pulled in if someone else has completed SM.
Not sure, never met a group that couldn’t DPS her down fast enough. Even with 4 people and me as a warrior who isn’t specced at all for DPS could get her to stop rezzing.
Did you make sure you assist targeted her <LCtrl click> and Everyone assist <T> to burn down? That usually gets most PuGs to go pew pew at a certain mob.
If you still can’t do it then it might be bugged. It has been a long time since I last ran it, but never had much of a problem with her.
HoTW path 1 – around 25 mins
TA Spider path – Around 25 mins
Just those two net tons of $$$ in drops + end reward. Both have insanely easy trash/bosses and both can be completed without even a full group. Just make SURE you bring salvage kits – both high end and low end crappy one. Use better for yellows 80 drops and crappy one for salvagables/whites. Then sell EVERYTHING you get, and yes that includes all the tradeskill items you have looted.

Really what else would you think? If you were totally 100% new to MMO’s bugs would bother you less because you wouldn’t have a high character that fast to notice them. SM Dungeons might turn you away though.
