Suggestion for npcs in dungeons

We have been begging for something like this since…well the game released.

So far the devs have ignored it. Those explores gotta have dem’ “story” elements I guess. =/

Why were dungeons added to the monthly?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dead.7385

Dead.7385

They really just need 4 seperate monthly quests:
PvP – one the requires PvP kills / supply camps capped (or defended) / Towers capped (or defended)
PvE Solo – Do “X” DE’s / Kill “X” of “Y” mobs / Salvage “X” items
Crafting – Craft “X” Armor – Gather “X” items – Craft “X” Weapons – Craft “X” Jewelry
PvE Group – Do “X” dungeons / Kill “X” Bosses / Earn “X” amount of tokens

If one of those is completed it will make all other monthly quests grey out. So if you do dungeons are purely it (what I do), I can finish it and then PvP/PvE solo/Crafting will become not completable till next month.

Same thing for dailies. I stopped doing them, because I just didn’t want to do DE’s anymore. I do dungeons only.

Everyone wins.

All that said there’s some really intelligent people debating in this thread. We should be able to come up with something other than we need more stats.

Dungeon boss specific weapon sigils. Nothing too game breaking, but interesting enough to make character builds from.

I would like a choices:
Turn off ALL spell effects
Turn off Other player spell effects
Turn off all Non combo starter effects
^ This would be the best as you can see effects to combo off of, but don’t have to see that elementals “fireball” / Meteor spell.

Even the quaggans in Plunder path (adds during 2nd boss fight) seem to have the HP of a basic dungeon boss in other area’s.

Skill Based MMO

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dead.7385

Dead.7385

Making it simple:
If you like only the carrot – Go to more traditional MMO’s. Will save you some trouble.

If you however like getting multiple sets to change builds and designing specfic types of characters (Support/tank/DPS/Condition/Etc) than this is your MMO. As once you hit 80 and get say full Tank P/T/V gear then you can swap and start to gear up a DPS based class. Then when you bored you can build a condition based character. The swap in variety will definitely spice up gameplay and the added knowledge that if you go away for a year and pick it back up you will not have to regrind all your sets. – This is all PvE specific.

As for SPvP it again depends on if you like the carrot. If not then there isn’t much here for you outside of WvW.

Dead.7385

@Hand, now that might be an interesting twist. Personally though I would make the “explore” mode you describe 100% non-instanced similar to the dungeons of older MMO’s. Granted I have NO clue how bosses would hold up with more than 5 players unless it scaled like DE’s, which if they get it right could be kind of neat and if done right fill some missing Guild style PvE. Not exactly “exclusive” raids, but can scale to somewhere near there.

This and having it be for 80/exotic geared only will limit the mass flux for awhile too. Add in the ability to get some tokens/good loot (still waiting on loot fix for explore atm) for rare spawns (chance to pop where general trash spawn equal to the “gold” mobs in AC) or bosses on 3 +2/-1 hr hour timers (keep it RANDOM), and it would make for some interesting open world dungeon crawls, which have been sorely missed from games.

Two Dungeon Questions

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Dead.7385

Dead.7385

1. Adding in LFG time so: Probably Ascalon Catacombs path 2? Think that can be done extremly quick compared to most dungeons. With added benefit to extra coin, and isn’t too difficult.

2. SM = Story mode / EM = Explore Mode
AC = Ascalon Catacombs – SM = 30+ / EM = 35+
CM = Cadacus Manor – SM = 40+ / EM = 45+
TA = Twilight Arbor – SM = 50+ / EM = 55+
SE = Sorrows Embrace – SM = 60+ / EM = 65+
CoF = Citadel of Flame – SM = 70+ / EM = 75+
HoTW = Honor of the Waves – SM = 76+ / EM = 80
CoE = Crucible of Eternity – SM = 78+ / EM = 80
Arah = The Ruined City of Arah – SM = 80 / EM = 80

Edit: Added level ranges for each dungeon and dungeon type if you start looking to run one.

Dead.7385

Well if I understand correctly, you want harder content

Well to be fair you did one dungeon, and you did story mode (though that can be disbuted if it is harder than some EM or not).

Want a fight with phases in it? Go to Arah. Want some difficulty – Go do Magg w/o 2/3 strat – or path 3 (that is torch path right?) and try the defensive wave w/o death. There is tougher content, and blandly generalizing the entire dungeon system based on AC story mode doesn’t help your point.

And yes a LOT of dungeons are easy even in Explore. But go ahead and try some w/o guides (since you stated you like to figure stuff out), like the CM explore or CoE explore.

*Edit: As clim stated – The “synergy” doesn’t come in terms of what many other games do. For instance my new shout warrior can bolster the teams DPS though massive Might stacks all the while increasing my crit through my trait build. Then I can use my other shout to toss venerability on the mob (increases dmg to the mob like an AC debuff), and then use an axe skill to again increase the counter. That helps all players all the while giving me HP through my Vitality tree skill that makes shouts heal.

Run MK – Boom exotic on my brother on 2nd run (was in same exotic boat I was in). I run it boom an exotic for me on 3rd run- roughly 6ish runs total. Yeah more chests need to be like that. Also got a Black Lion key too 0_o.

I’m completely serious. The PvE in this game is pretty much mindless and makes me want to cut myself. WvW and sPvP is what matters, especially since anet wants this game to be an esport. If PvE was an esport then the bots would win.

Yeah PvE is mindless! Because NOBODY would mindlessly zerg in WvW. NOBODY.

Now some people are just jumping to conclusions on failed assumptions. You can’t tank mobs and bosses, so you need to kite your aggro around or CC’ing your aggro and then kiting when your CC’s are on cool down, or just doing both at the same time(Mostly Cripple & Immobilized).

To be honest that depends entirely on the boss itself. Some are easily faceroll tank difficulty while others are not.

For example TA Up:
Wurm – You can easily melee and never bother to “go out” since its base attack is “smash into ground” (easily parried/blocked/dodge), and having other wurms spew a tiny AE at you. That can be sidestepped.

Spider – It will always rotate Breath/Spew AE. The breath is side stepped so you don’t have to dodge, and since you already know that a AE is inc you either: Use a shield/parry if usable. Use skill that makes you “invul” tagged. Use a dodge. Or back off till he is done.

Spider lady – Faceroll tank. I never ever ever had to back off of her in the tunnel because…she just doesn’t do dmg.

Nightmare tree: You can melee Up path, just parry/block/dodge his “Hulk Smash”/Spike attack/Im going to shake (massive AE) ability, and keep an eye on the turrets hitting you (They don’t hit for much).

None of those require CC or kiting of much kind at all. In fact the spider is the only fight you really can kite because:
Wurm boss is perma rooted and only becomes dangerous is you let two other wurms spawn on you (also perma rooted).
Spider Lady is pulled into a wall and beaten there (very small area), and is tank’n’spank.
The Tree is perma rooted, but with not much in the ways to threaten you can be ranged or melee’d (I prefer melee since I do more dmg) easily.

The dungeons rely on constant CC and kiting; which makes it not fun since CC is such an over used mechanic. Figured this would get trolled anyway, I just posted this for Anet to see, for the rest whatever… Please stand there and take damage to the face and prove me wrong on the Kiting and CC… I would love to see you die!

I don’t need to “prove” it to you. I have TA weapons/my brother who I always pug with has his entire TA set, and we have spares to gamble with.

if this is true

I highly doubt they would do more Undead/open up more of Orr. That would shoot that new content in the foot. Sadly no dungeons listed there so, =/.

- 3 Day event = Kinda neat, sounds like the mad king event we have now.

- New island = Ring of fire island?

- New PvE game modes = Like activities? Sounds generic. I like activities, but would like them added as more bundled “holiday” stuff (such as the amazing one we got for Mad King) rather than big content updates. Then again…November does have thanksgiving so /shrug.

- New PvP features = Guild vs Guild or Moba game style inc.

No, underwater COMBAT is clunky. There is nothing wrong with swimming itself. There is a severe lack of swimming in dungeons in general. They could easily create underwater obstacles, puzzles and traps.

The problem with underwater traps/puzzles/obstacles is they loose all source of fear Especially if they have no mobs when you realize you can’t drown. The trap then becomes a lackluster version of the laser trap or bees, just in full “3D” (best way I could put it) with a crappy camera following you. People already complain about the camera now, but place them in an area where you not only have to look straight down/angled, but up/down/left/right – /shiver. And since combat is so hated in dungeons with underwater sections most would avoid it if they decided to spice it up. If they decided to add it as you like to point out it just becomes another “Linear gimmick”

Example: Off the top of my head I remember a under trap in DDO. You had to open/close locked gates for one person passing through. The only thing that makes that difficult is the fact you can drown. Well that and armor made you slower iirc (been awhile)

Take away drowning and it becomes “Hey look its underwater! See see! Sure nobody wants to fight here, but if we place traps you will use it! Please?”.

Nobody in their right mind is asking for more of that. Underwater is clunky and makes certain builds 100% useless due to no trait restrainer. In fact when I pug HoTW path 2/3 people will outright avoid them asking if I am only doing butcher. Don’t blame them either.

I run down a hall that has 2 snipers at the end. I’m the 2nd player in, I dodge one of the sniper attacks but as soon as my dodge ends I get one shotted with a 14k shot without even knowing why I had aggro in the first place.

There is multiple ways to handle that encounter. If your talking CM which it sounds like those mobs are perma rooted. They just shoot whatever comes down. Clearing a nearby room and using cover/range dmg to kill one at a time. Just charging them isn’t how that fight is “supposed” (though I guess it can be done that way) be handled, thats why they tossed flame/net traps in the adjacent rooms. Last pug I had just cleared the nearby room (used AoE to clear guns then charged and AoE’d the perma rooted mobs inside). Then sidestep out with range and take out the snipers/bomber one to one. Or else you can stealth past them or just run it.

And due to those insane hit tables one can barely play as melee. I don’t want to play a thief that has to use a SB for most of a dungeon just because I risk getting one shotted if I spend more than 3 secs in melee.

I know quite a few thieves that don’t have a problem with melee. The thing is they don’t stand and wait to die. They jump in DPSDPS/Condition stack and back off if they are getting hit. That is how the class is designed, ever wonder why you can stealth and drop all agro mid fight?

Edit:
“There’s nothing wrong with the general idea of the GW2 style except for the fact that there’s often little need to spam boons or heals on other players, or use combo fields. "

This nails it on the head. Combo fields are nice, but just aren’t up to snuff. Even when you can get neat buffs from them they last WAY to short compared to the encounter itself. It would be great is I could Chaos armor myself off of my guildies Mesmer and have it last for at least 1/2 the fight, as it stands now it ticks for about 5 seconds and vanishes. Really? That isn’t helpful at all. The most you get out of combo is more DPSDPS in the way of Fire/poison projectiles and that doesn’t work right. For example:
Player Poison lays down a poison field
Player Fire lays a fire field over it.
Player with bow shoots – it will only take one or the other. It would be amazing if we could mix those and receive fire AND poison dmg (or a completely new type of condition dmg), but it is a flat dull two layer system that needs to change.

What boss specifically? I really can’t think of many Trail/error bosses in explore path beside L-Whatever. He is located on the hardest path as well. Maybe you can count the shield in F/F being one shot and you not knowing, but that isn’t that bad. Not sure why you would run into a shield either.

i don’t think i’ve every seen a mmo that allowed multi boxing… for obvious reasons.

Most MMO’s allow it. From Everquest to Eve to WoW (in fact there is an entire website to help players multibox and do instances).

Edit: No Multiboxing has nothing to do with botting (botting = no player active at the PC thus a “bot” is playing).

Most game developers allow multiboxing in their games. To date, Age of Conan, Aion, Anarchy Online, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Dungeons and Dragons Online, EVE Online, Lord of the Rings Online, EverQuest, EverQuest II, Lineage, Lineage II, Ultima Online, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, Warhammer Online and World of Warcraft all allow multiboxing. The Chronicles of Spellborn and Rift allow hardware multiboxing, but prohibit software multiboxing. Game publishers do not provide technical support for multiboxing, so while it may be allowed, you may find certain games are not designed to be multiboxed.5 6 – Pulled from Wikipedia so /shrug

4: There is no real reason to go back aside from 100% the game

5: Orr is really “farm zone” so 80’s chill there

6: The game was meant to be pick up/put down compared to games like WoW so players are – Doing just that (they get exotic set and quit).
