If it was for: Path 1/2 level shouldn’t be an issue. I run with low levels and I ran it a lot.
If they were doing path 3, they probably wanted all the DPS they could muster.
Edit: As far as 50% less effective. Sorry I will take a level 35 mesmer with haste bubble over an 80 non mesmer anyday. Love that thing. The amount of DPS that thing helps others put it far surpasses most random level 80’s.

@Supa
Sometimes people want to and others don’t care. I never really see a ton of difference personally. The only thing everyone agrees on is to ignore the regen totem.
I would rather not have mobs like Kholer be reduced to kitten status just because “im wearing teh purpz”. I rather like to watch a level 35 explorable boss pull level new level 80’s (Even though they are downscaled) in and tear them to shreds.
Then 2-4 more runs that same person never gets tagged.
@Braxxis
Your failure is only funny if you try….
People get the acheezement.
And never come back unless you do Butchers path.
@Rain – same thing my group did. No voice comms either. Each of us took down the adds to one. The lowest DPS (me) took mine down to 50% so by the time I killed mine the others had killed theirs too. Then we killed and did torch.
I don’t know about his massive HP’s. He just doesn’t hold a candle to HoTW. Those quaggans seem to have more HP than SA. Only did Teleporter/Sub path so if you mean front door I have no clue on that.
Another shocker is that the robot took us the same amount of time to kill as 2nd form Subject alpha. 0_o.
Final fight is I think 7 minutes from the video.
With less deaths that 2nd fight could probably cut down a good minute. Now the fact that hes the ONLY real “boss”. Thats the real problem.

Dungeons are already pretty dead on my server (and its high pop). Its a shame, it will take you all day to find a group this game NEEDS a dungeon finder tool for all NA and all EU servers.
SM or EM? Big BIG difference depending on which you are running.
You doing EM? Go to borlis pass. I run them every day and see people run dungeons. Just did SE path 1/2 about two hours ago and that is a rare one to get a group for. Also make sure you are “timed” right with your server. People will LFG more during certain hours.
Groups mostly go by:
AC/TA/CoF/HoTW are common easy to get groups
CM is uncommon
CoE/SE/Arah is rare (Arah is prolly more tied to guilds not wanting to PuG it to speed up clear times/not wipe or explain Giganticus every single run).
One of the few people one the server to do CoE EM on a daily basis.
As for the Dungeon Finder. I agree 100%. /map LFG is one the most backwards things imaginable. I am not playing Everquest anymore.
@Orlen – So what IS accepting PvE endgame? Since exploration isn’t one, please don’t say raids.
… there is only one place where I can play dungeons similar to these. …
LOTRO, DDO, WAR, EQ2, and RIFT all have instanced dungeons, just like GW2.
Just because they are “instanced” doesn’t mean they are the same….
*edit: Even DDO’s elite difficulty dungeons are far far different from your average EQ2 dungeon (got around level 75 warden/inquitor which I dual boxed on Freeport server). Since they restrict you on mana so heavily, played a healer on DDO till about 12 or 14) it was actually quite fun vs med breaks in EQ2. Only did free trail of RIFT to 20 and did some faerie dungeon. Kinda WoWish. LOTRO tried to get into, but had everquest on my mind. War? No thanks unless it is 40K.
For example if I played a tank in those games I would be….. Tanking mobs of course. Keeping agro off of healers and allowing DPS at attack. That is the basic of most of those fights.
Here I can’t just “keep agro” off eveyone with my warrior easily. There isn’t a healer pumping me with HP every 3 seconds or so.
(edited by Dead.7385)
I think people didn’t realize they meant endgame as in the game literally changes at the end. For instance in Everquest/WoW/“X” you go from 1 -> max doing group missions/solo play. Then at max you hit the raid scene which is anywhere from 10 -> 54 players in a raid depending on the game. Nowhere else other than max level does this happen.
GW2 went a different route. Basically level 30 is the “endgame” essentially (where the first dungeon starts and you get your first elite). Everything else afterwards is just adding to variety but the core game doesn’t change from 30 -> 80. So in essence, yes at level 30+ the entire game is “endgame” because they don’t drastically change your gameplay to something new.
Personally I like it. It is different. If I want to play a raid game I can pop on my 95 warrior or resub to WoW, but there is only one place where I can play dungeons similar to these. I am also a big fan of being able to group with lower levels for explorable missions (and often do).
I have had something like it happen to me in AC:
Did your quest log show Kholer alive even though he was killed? If pulled wrong from his room you can not trigger his “fight” and kill him before the quest updates thus locking the entire instance from finishing.
TA up path.
Had to deal with a “uber MLG Call of Duty player” who was all leet. Kept smack talking people who had trouble running. Never had to rez a guy so much in my entire time in that dungeon. Was even better when this “MLG” player told me not to melee the spider boss (the first one with breath/AE) because melees would all die to it.
Another one was a guy who was going to “afk kill boss” during the 2nd boss on F/Up path – he got hit with bees and just stood there (not attacking btw). Then downed. Me and my brother run and rez him. He stands. Goes down. I say in group "Is “X” player there?" and wait awhile. He comes back and comments that he was AFK killing the boss to which I respond “You got downed twice already….”
Then he said “ohh yeah the bee’s”.
@Raven Then post a Screen shot. There is TWO videos posted of players doing it and people then turn it into a gear issue.
Lets be honest if it was a straight “gear” issue most players wouldn’t use 2/3 strat because most pugs use Exotic gear. Most use 2/3 strat because it is a DPS check and it is difficult.
I am sorry to say this but you failed with Explorable mode. I ve done almost every of them and I found them to be just easy and usually not even challenging.
I wouldn’t go THAT far. Yes they have easy paths and the difficulty curve is like a Bi-Polar roller coaster for some dungeons, just look at the amount of people that “beat” Magg encounter the “correct” way and those that use 2/3 strat.
2/3 Strat isn’t really beating it as it is bashing your head into the wall hoping to get to the other side. Sure you can make it, but it isn’t a good solution.
By any change will a dev that know answer if the loot change be rolled into the 22nd update or is it still in a when it is done stage?
I am not sure how changing the EM will work that much. I would love either more dungeons or more paths though.
Also updating the armor sets to provide set bonus particle effects. For instance a poster talked how he wanted if you had ALL AC armor look you should glow at night just like the weapons. I went a one up and said it should transform you into a ghostly version of your race while it is night. That would make armor unique like weapons (AC weps glowing for instance). I would definitely run EM again to get a full set to see the dungeon specific effects (HoTW freezing you/Arah making you drip poison and rot etc).
@William
TBH you got some of those swapped. To me TA final boss is 10X more memorable than the nightmare tree (on any path) or any boss on UP path. It just has more mechanics and things “going on” than the EM counterpart.
This is a personal experience but speaking purely from a scripted scene TA SM Final boss has multiple abilities going on at once, players have to watch themselves from melee/range/ AND have to focus targets while being kept alive. The rez tosses a nice change of pace as it is a DPS race to stop her. This has everything from EM tied up into one intense fight with “hero” characters gone “evil”.
The tree from UP path? Spawns turrets nobody cares about. I melee it and don’t even bother with them. Healing turrets? Please. Basic DPS him and avoid AoE/watch for hit cues (slamming fist into the ground for instance).
F/Up – The adds are a nice change of pace and add some group play. But it always goes down to – chill in tunnel – DPS adds – DPS boss. That is the entire fight.
F/F – Only did this once, but it was basically kite adds and DPS boss. Nothing hugely special.
As you can see SM combines: Adds/kiting/DPS racing the rezzer into one fight which is everything the tree is, but in EM it is usually split up sadly.
Lower the health of all dungeon mobs in the game by 50%, raise damage done by 10%.
Posted by: Dead.7385
I don’t think ALL dungeon mobs need a flat out blanket 50% hp reduction (which is quite a random number to choose). Some runs go quite a bit faster than most think, even with “speed bump mobs” (AC Spider/champions for example). A 10% dmg increase with that amount of HP chucked off wouldn’t balance it out at all.
It is just specific mobs on certain paths that need adjusting. Each path should have a recommended length (short/medium/long) with more chests and tokens going to the longer routes.
really? going back to LFG instead of solving the problem? and especially in such a fun dungeon? :/
SM is sometimes harder and much much longer than EM with no reward so people skip it. I would too, already did ALL SM’s on my main and would rather not do them again.
It is more for random NPC’s.
Go to TA explorable and talk to the sylvari near the repair anvil. You can be mean to them which is kinda neat.
Mine is:
Does the character talk without me having any say in it.
Yes = fail
No = good
Im not “playing” my character during the story I am more like piloting him.
The problem most likely isn’t the amount of players on the server, but your LFG for Story mode. Many people are level 80 and have run them once or just don’t want to run them on alts due to the ability for higher levels to zone in them to explorables (which actually have rewards).
We need a nice trailer for this.
Really interested to see some new mini-dungeons. Been waiting for some level 80 ones to appear with meta events inside.
Depends on your wep. Personally:
Mace = extra stun. Really good in PvP and good in PvE.
Longbow = Combo ring of fire. Sets any mob on first and any projectile shot through it adds burning effect.
Those are both strong. Toss in a very nice condition build ranger/theif etc and that burning tick can do some nasty dmg.
" he just performs the task and makes the machine work..he doesnt design the machine.."
And what happens when the machine doesn’t work? How about those bugged DE’s/Skillpoints? How about the client crashes? That’s why we aren’t super hyped about the answers. They have said the exact same thing before so it isn’t any “new” information.
We already know what the systems do and how the devs want them “played out” (DE’s/SP’s/WvW), were playing the game atm.
To OP:
Try a trap ranger. Or a mesmer
*edit: I do agree on wep cool downs. A lot of times I pop in/out of Mace/shield/Longbow or Mace/shield/Greatsword and I get hit with the weapon swap CD. All I wanted to do was swap to mace to stun then swap back to GS to DPS as fast as I can. It is really irritating in what otherwise would make a smooth combat flow.
(edited by Dead.7385)
simple reason……. because there bosses. There not meant to be easy lol.
A large majority of HP sponges I mentioned are mobs poorly designed with lots of hp. A good example is Giganticus as it will go through 3 unique phases making a long fight seem less tedious. A bad example is HoTW butcher which has the mob repeat the same attacks for roughly 10 minutes as you mindlessly beat on them. Or even better yet the golem from CoE who offers no reward other than to slow you down.
Or even the dogs from Plunder path in HoTW: Two HIGH hp mobs that are insanely easy. One charges + lays down frost. The other fears + adds. You don’t even fight them at the same time which would be difficult. Its just one Vex Thall mob after another.
Ahh your still on Story Mode. Just wait until you get to easy Explorable mode runs in about 30 minutes.
HP are quite a big thing though and on certain bosses (Puts eyes on HoTW Plunder Quaggans) can be too much. HoTW EM bosses have huge HP, and even with that a good group can do Butcher in 25-30 mins.
“There isn’t one.”
Player combo mechanic + Rez mechanic + particle effects.
I wouldn’t mind the ability to flip on “hard mode” and phase into an overflow like server where all monsters are max level and veterans.
Yup all veterans.
*1 A team of developers…
Doesn’t effect me. Players just want to adjust it mostly and that should be standard.
*2 Player culling …..
I highly doubt we will ever see a fix for this implemented. It has been happening and “looked” into for a LONG time and still no word on it.
*3 There is something in development …..
Interesting. I haven’t hit queue times as I am not on a WvW heavy server. At least they should be happy for this. Maybe some easy guild sieges soon.
*4 Broken SP challenges:…..
Ugh. Heard it before and again and again. It wouldn’t bother me if the last update was shifted to no changes to content. Finding the root cause is a needle in the haystack as it can be anything from player interaction/mob/enviorment (map layout). It has to be done on a case – by – case basis sadly.
*5 Multiple trait set is on the “cool to do” list…..
Nice they actually agree with the players that stated this. I remember reading people who were against this 0_o.
*6 The game is still largely CPU-bound…..
It is EQ2 all over again. Nothing much is ever going to change. 32 bit PC’s seem screwed as well so deal with it mostly.
*7 The biggest challenge in fixing bugs is the broken dynamic events…
Well since DE’s are the majority of the content i’m surprised they don’t have these tools.
*8 Preview equipment via trading post is possible…..
I remember when that was first stated on the “cool things to add list” (and the TONS of posts about it) about 1 week after launch. /taps foot.
- 9 A more enhanced LFG tool is likely trimmed in order for meeting shipping deadline, and is now being looked into.
Yeah……
So no deadline on that? This should be in the 22 patch=/.
- 10 Player character profiles on the web feature can be realized by using APIs, which is under development.
I totally forgot about this. This still doesn’t work?
Last but not least, thanks anet for the very informative AMA session!
As much as I like GW2 it really wasn’t informative other than “we see the posts and are looking into it”. No dates. No real answers other than the couple things you can find them say on this forum (were taking care of botters etc). =/
+1
If they are holding back fixes (cough last “update” cough) they might as well reset all maps at midnight to help those who need it while they are busy coding the fixes.
It was one of the more shocking things, but one of the best things to happen to combat for casters in any MMO.
Bumped to keep this up top since it deserves a sticky since it is a huge problem for some people, and this is definitely one thread that doesn’t need to buried under one-shot/dungeonz sux threads.
Make a HUGE chunck of karma imo. As people can probably zerg Orr for more karma/better loot per hour than doing a whole dungeon for 1-2K measly karma.
@male
Long waypoint do not make dungeons tougher, just more irritating. Sure more = more people zerging. but if your good you won’t need to zerg anyway.
Lets say some LD’s/crashes when the party just hit the end of path 1 of arah. Which DOES happen. You saying they should run ALL the way back due to the game/connection problem?
Done teleporter/Sub path.
Subject alpha is one of the better designed fights imo. Even stacking during sub path is still better than other fights The thing that ruins it are that RANDOM no reward stop gaps.
Take the robot with turrets fight. Takes forever – no reward – not considered a “boss”. Hell there is a REAL event (hacking) which is insanely fun right after him. Not sure why hes there only to say "hey take “X” minutes on me!".
Just took a PuG who were entirely new to this and they said the robot was a waste and irritating, but were thrilled when we did all hacking with 0 deaths on their first run. More fun events w/rewards – less meh events with nothing for it.
IIRC First SA fight doesn’t reward a chest either. Please devs I know this magical number 3 chests is something important, but if your going to make a boss we NEED a chest reward at least.
Worse part is the dungeon is actually really entertaining and tests some dodging/knowledge skills. Shields/parry are VERY nice to have as they can negate most of SA’s skills.
They waypoint system in dungeons is 100% out of whack. Certain fight, paths, and traps had random WP’s while others don’t.
For example:
TA F/Up isn’t WP friendly near the bee’s. Long time to run back and if it is your first run (or are bad at traps) you will die, unless someone disarms it for you.
CoE Laser trap – Waypoint RIGHT by the trap. That is HOW it should be for ALL instant death traps.
/rant
Overall: Good
Some are bad and some are just bad days. Otherwise it’s fine to me.
As someone who does dungeons:
This is the 2nd worse part for me about dungeons (aside from every dungeon being essentially an annoying escort mission). HoTW path 2/3 are AWFUL because of this. Mobs charge through walls to and reset at random times. Not only that they made the bosses have huge HP so everyone skips those paths.
I highly doubt traditional raids would work. It would be a random raid mob running around with zero agro control picking off whoever it wants. Also remember they would have to give him more hps/dmg to compensate for the fact he is a “raid mob”. I couldn’t imagine the one shot posts that would gain.
Maybe you can make something like Subject Alpha or Giganticus into a raid, but then why? Whats the difference at that point between 5 people hitting him and 100?
I would like to see AC path 3 done as a duo. I couldn’t get past that DPS check event. =/
Actually you can melee that wurm fight easily. I just have my brother use his ranger axe which kills flowers as they pop and use I mace/shield on other attacks (PBAoE).
Depending on what tree fight your talking about it is melee friendly. UP path can be melee’d with the only dmg taken is mostly from random turrets that do very little. His attacks take so long you can tell what he is doing. F/UP you might not want to just because of extra agro. and F/F your kiting anyway so might as well use range.
Do like that Megaman one.
Sales hit 2 million and probably died down to a trickle after that. If they hit another million mark they would be touting it to the high heavens as it is rare most MMO’s get 3M let along 2M.
Most expansion packs for P2P games aren’t free, but are slightly discounted (around 40.00 – 50.00). GW1 model had paid expansion packs at full retail price. So it is highly likely this one will too, and most likely it will be full retail price (60.00).
Updates will most likely come out, but expansion won’t be heard about until 5-6 months into the game. If not then 7-8 months into lifespan of the game.
Basically were nowhere near an expansion.
Not sure. Never heard of people dumping rangers as they are one of the better single pulling classes in the game. Toss in healing spring for AE Condition Removal and they are quite nice.
My brother mains a ranger and has never been dumped from group.
No clue. Dev stated one thing and has yet to comment back. IIRC he stated veterans are supposed to spawn but are bugging out and not working properly now.
Of course we haven’t heard anything more and last “update” didn’t even bother to update anything.
With pleasure:
1) The tip of the loot bell curve should be greens with no MF%. Whites would essentially be a critical failure and exotics a critical success, maybe only make exotics drop in the final chest.
Can definitely agree on that. I would go as far to say make one rare per chest.
2) Trash needs, on avg, a 20% decrease in HP. Some places it’s fine, bomb golems in CoE, some places its broken, defend event in CoF.
That would be fine. Trash on some parts are fine others aren’t. I am more concerned with events that have bosses with HUGE hp + adds (looking at you HoTW Plunder quaggans + boss). But magg event is annoying, and I have always hated “DPS check” fights as they are uninteresting and involve no interesting mechanics other than DPSDPSDPS and live.
3) A select few bosses need either: buffing, nerfing, bux fixes, or additional mechanics.
yup yup.
4) Better NPC AI…I swear to god if Hodgins dies in the fire trap or pulls one more graveling pack…also that CoE agent NPC at the beginning. Who decided it’d be a great idea to have to race her to pull the mobs?
this This THIS. Whoever the dev imagined “hey lets make ALL dungeons a REALLY long escort mission” needs to rethink that a bit.
In EM we don’t like AI. Were not interested in their quotes. We want a dungeon that isn’t going to freak out with AI training you, screwing up scripts, or acting dumb. REMOVE them or make them non-agro/non-allied NPC’s. Their DPS isn’t going to make a difference and we waste time rezzing them.
And yes we DO kill them on purpose a lot. /rant off
5) Champions and bosses dropping silver! implement this universally, not just AC. Yes, I’ll gladly take 5 more silver from a mob that 1 shots you and has a metric kittenton of health.
Yup
6)Karma! It makes no sense to have a glorified event chain that doesn’t reward it.
Would be nice. Kinda odd we get weird DE inside dungeons with XP/coin yet no karma.
Joined a guild to avoid PuG’s for dungeons. Ohh and magic find banner is nice too.
Other than that isn’t much point to a guild.
