He is a good boss.
When I first read one shot – I thought you meant you hit him once and killed him ha.
We skip mobs because they are skippable. Adding tokens isn’t going to fix it unless you make the amount they drop worthwhile. A mob with a chance to drop 1 token isn’t worth the extra 5 mins.
It isn’t so bad Gray. By the time you get something like a full set you probably can buy a set using Gold -> Gems.
ATM 1 gold + 10 silver = 207 gems which is 5 Xmute stones. So for a full set it is: 3 gold + 20 silver IF you use dual wielding weapons and Xmute underwater. Less is you use 2 handers and ignore underwater weapons.
Of course that changes to be lower/higher depending on the market.
Kinda wish they stacked up to 1000. Think im up to 500+ TA tokens atm.
“Dungeons are not supposed to be easy to clear. A-net has stated that dungeons are for those that like a challenge.”
That really isn’t the point. Path 1 is so insanely easy I have no clue what your talking about. Probably bout 100X easier than SM atm. That boss is actually acting buggy.
It has been stated before the veterans are a bug as of now. They ARE intended but spawn completely random. They have rumors that different things will spawn them, but no concrete evidence atm. We were told he would be patched in coming week(s?).
The red circle + party with bad gear statement is true.
There is a very small open world dungeon in Gendarren fields as well.
I really liked the idea and wish they were more fully implemented. Is there any 80 open world dungeons? Never found any that high.
@Ubung
I agree with ya. Although don’t discount a lot of dungeons. They do have tells. Just from memory.
AC – Scream attack is easily seen as it has a ridiculous windup time: – bosses such as the big spirit scream (5 scepter path) is crazy easy to notice. He even does a nice dance during the fight (I believe that is when he summons adds).
CM – Sureshot – He will stand take aim and shoot. He won’t turn etc when he does his big knockback shot – that is your window to run through him/around him to avoid. The bomb boss signal is the when he turns toward you and begins to move his arm – that is your signal to move left/right.
CMStory: The golem iirc (been awhile) will always do his BIG major missile attack AFTER the laser attack.
TA – Spider boss (not the spider chick, but the one before it iirc) – It has the exact same image for attacks on both of its major attacks: Poison breath/Poison AE. They key thing to note is that it will ALWAYS alternate between attacks. Breath/AE/Breath/AE/Breath/AE. You can always predict when it will hit.
Arah – Giganticus phase 2 is fairly easy to know when to dodge as his teleport is easily visable. Can’t specifically say it as I have killed him once, but it was definitely noticible.
The mobs I can’t tell are Butcher from HoTW (And others I can’t recall): I haven’t looked for attack patterns etc, but it just felt all random for me. Might be wrong as I am definitely not the best player ever.
They do have to finesse it though.
Raids won’t work in this game. I highly doubt it. They could add it, sure, but it wouldn’t be a piece of cake to balance at all.
If they did add raids I can’t wait to read the one shot posts. Raids without agro management would be tough to do, unless they made all bosses kinda static like the dragons etc.
But if they did you could toss “Legendary” armor skins on the token raid vendors. That would be kinda neat.
In everquest people often socialized as you were forced to group at a very early level. Not only that but they had “med breaks” which were each about 5 mins. Then you had buffing time which was roughly around 2 mins. Then depending on where you were you either medded again back to full (2-3 mins) or began pulling. It was so mind numbingly boring that to pad out time people just chatted away. Really what else could you do sitting there for roughly 7ish mins each time a cleric etc went OOM. Not to mention combat you could easily chat while doing.
Of course if a MMO did that again it would burn and die really fast. Rightfully so.
The most important thing is – the more faster you combat the less you will chat. Especially in Guild Wars 2 as mobs can hit quite hard especially in dungeons (Group content) etc so standing still typing isn’t a great idea.
Ohh and voice chat is WAY more common now than it used to people. People are most likely talking, but they are talking to people not only playing guild wars 2 but using their <insert vent/ts/whatever> server.
X5 warrior.
Banner rez each other ftw.
Lockout are a dual edged sword. On one hand you are correct – it makes it easy for players to quit mid dungeon and be rewarded w/o exploiting a system. On the other hand it creates an even worse artificial grind. I was never a fan of them because if I did a dungeon early morning with a PuG – I wouldn’t be able to do it again if my brother logged on later. It split communities because you are all on unique timers.
Granted with the path system it might be possible (lock out a path completed, but you can still do other paths) so it might work better than in other MMO’s.
Will be interesting to see how ANet handles partial rewards since they use no RNG system.
The game your looking for is the sandbox genre, mainly those with good player generated content tools. As it would be impossible for a developer to create endless content before it is “eaten”.
This is a themepark game with some sandbox sprinkles. But it is still a themepark. Kinda sucks, but maybe it will get better? Doubt it, but you can always hope.
People would just open LFG, wait a few minutes, run the dungeon as fast as possible and leave. That’s not how an MMO should be played.
So your totally not gonna mention speed runs in GW2 dungeons that the developers had to take a nerf bat to?
Seriously, I run dungeons as fast as possible w/o dungeon finder. WHY would I sit around and do the dungeon as slow as possible?
Even better idea:
Make them invincible and non agro. I just did scepter path in Ascalon and hodgins died in the middle of the flame trap before burrow fight.
Also don’t count them as “allies” if mobs abilities do something. Giganticus tosses grubs on players which you have to kill, but last time I killed him iirc he started to toss grubs at the AI which is REALLY annoying.
I don’t think it would change much. So why not?
The gear people would want to inspect is usually dungeon gear, which is easily spotted. Anyone can say “LFM Arah – Link dungeon set plz” in your group recruitment.
@Tetsuo
That was one of the most brilliant posts I have read in awhile.
+100
Why force players to use map chat to only then punish players who use map chat? That was seriously some odd thinking there.
Devs listened to MMO hoppers that hated on WoW’s dungeon finder, because it is WoW and thus evil. It wasn’t a smart decision and still isn’t one. This is coming from someone who only logs on to do dungeons.
I just did the fight on Borlis Pass about two hours ago. It didn’t summon anything. Basic same dull sit in melee and hit him fight.
If you tell me your guild goes in and has no problem killing them with DPS, well congrats, you didn’t read my initial post and you must be those who goes in with 100 gold worth of gear to do that…
That alone tells me you have never used the trading post….like ever.
100 gold to buy a set? You serious?
Speaking as someone who has cleared path 1 as a first time in dungeon with an experienced group (some who had cleared Giganticus, but nobody had cleared the entire path). I have to agree that the way rewards work is horrid. The idea that the grants the tokens and have NO way to get additional tokens before hand isn’t fixing a problem (people farming easy bosses), it is making worse problems even more. Let me give you an example:
Our group was doing HoTW path 1 – cleared the entire dungeon, but last boss. Nobody had even died in the group. Feeling really good boss is at 10% and I am rocking mace/shield and beating him down.
Then power goes off.
I get back in to find myself dead on the outside of the dungeon with no reward. If that had been when we cleared path 1 Arah I probably would be taking a vacation from the game. Lucky it is a quick 20 min dungeon we do basically daily. Also it bugged me in that the group re-ran the instance for me, but it still “thought” I had finished the dungeon and was only rewarded 20 instead of the 60 on the first daily run.
The system needs to be fixed badly. I hope your patch can do that.
For this to be done they would probably have to add a lockout timer (Forces players to swap entire dungeons after a run) + Dungeon specific daily like WoW (Forces players to at least attempt or try every dungeon as it cycles through the list) to compensate for people running quick easy dungeons and getting harder dungeon gear.
Used plan 2 and it worked for my group.
Gonna try spawn kittening them next when I run it with 3 people.
@ Denial
They wouldn’t have to do that. In dungeons we get most loot out of chests that are as of now mostly useless (blues with a rare yellow). Even a 100% exotic dungeon piece random (weapons included) from the last chest would be nice. Would be nice to finish a dungeon and stumble on a piece you can use rather than trade for tokens or get mad because it isn’t “the right armor/wep”. Tokens will always be there for those that get something they can’t use.
Killed giganticus with my first time in Arah explorable, cleared tons of other explorables.
“Has everyone forgotten about the BEES? Who has NEVER been roflstomped by one of those Deathly Swarms in the fwd/up path of Twilight Arbor?”
I hate those bees. Lucky I run with people that can easily get by them and disarm the trap for me. If your going to do that stuff ANet use the idea from CoF Boulder trap. At least there only 3 of the 5 players have to make it rather than 1 running and kittening others past it. That way bad players like me don’t have to do that crap, but you need some that can.
A bit hard to understand, but you want a quicker Arah path? Only ran and finished path 1 (which had a final boss so disappointing it made Zhaitan look fun) so can’t speak for other paths, but it can take quite awhile. I f that is what you wanted then I would agree. I wouldn’t mind each explorable having at least one easier – fast path, and a long difficult one which a lot do, but not all I suppose.
WoW made it and it isn’t vanilla?
BURN IT TO THE GROUND!
I remember CoE SM got nerfed (The rogue mobs etc), but never realized the explorables got hit.
You will get trolled by the fan boys.
But you are absolutely correct.
This game is a 3 month game, the player base will go down slowly and the game will die.
This WoW video sums up your response.
Your posts sounds like an advert.
If you like WoW than great – WoW is a great game. I really want Dungeon finder in GW2 and don’t care if WoW haters don’t like it.
But did you really have to mention gear grind? Really? I would rather not have a constant gear grind in this game. Let dungeons be the end all for exotic grind. You can already feel a difference as a 80 with exotics vs lower levels in WvW.\
Also why does “blizzard suck”? Maybe the Diablo team might, but the team that does WoW does not. Your playing their game and basically making a list of why its great then saying they “suck”.
You do understand that right?
(edited by Dead.7385)
of all things that should be purchasable via karma, cultural armors make sense
You get them from being the Hero of Divinity’s Reach and whatnot.
Should add a tab on the vendors to give karma option, like the gear we can buy in the 80 zones.
This 100% makes sense.
1. MMO’s went mainstream so more people = more complaints.
2. MMO forums have always been a haven for those types.
3. No game is “The new WoW” so people get frustrated.
Combine those with some bad patches/botters/whatever and you have tons of hate posts.
No.
I am too close to my HoTW set, then I have to get each piece from each dungeon to Xmute to make myself look like the Frankenstein of dungeons.
*edit: Just think of the posts when people that spent tons of money unlocking bags slots/Xmute tokens gets their chars and all goods within (unlocked bags etc) wiped and ANet saying “See we fixed it for ya!”
(edited by Dead.7385)
I am really confused that bosses inside explorable dungeons (Including 80 dungeons such as Arah) are NOWHERE near as tough as the Fire elemental last time I fought him back in Beta.
Realitically, there will be a great percentage of the PvP-demographic that will just assume stick to free tournaments than spend money on it. What’s stopping them from monetizing access to WvW?
Realistically how would you reward someone in WvW similar to paid tournaments and why would they do that? You get like 170 gems for getting 1st in PvP, so in theory they would (if it was paid WvW) give 170 gems to…the population of the winning side that joined WvW in the entire week?
Agreed with capture the flag as well.
Oddly they have entire builds that could be so very fun (Condition removal + speed buff) included in it.
As a carebear I wouldn’t mind larger (Not WvW large) BG style combat (WSG). Yeah I know it is WoW, but it might ease the type of player like me (PvE player) into more SPvP game modes.
@ Aresenic
Those are might fine globs ya got there….
If:
Your bored with your 80 – Roll an alt to 80.
If you don’t want to do that then take a break and wait for Content (Halloween is inc soon)/Xpansion
Of course. People do it in FPS games which last like 30 mins max, why wouldn’t they do it here when it lasts a WEEK.
Paid server room = bad
Free = good
It is an interesting concept though. Oddly they don’t seem to want to do a ladder system which is why I shy away from SPvP.
I want to test out the building class thing they have talked about. Nothing else seemed to grab me.
Close to 300 hours. Do dungeons daily (that includes HoTW before you state do an 80). Yet to see a single Exotic. Kinda given up on Magic find gear since I gain money by dungeon completion anyway.
I suppose I could toss in rares into the forge though.
The only arah path I have finished is the 1st one. And since it was my first time on Giganticus we died a bit before killing it. I do agree with closer WP’s. If they really want to make it work – each boss should have the waypoint outside of the room, and once engaged that specific WP becomes contested. Once it loses all agro then it will be freed. That way groups that zerg will have to pay the price in running and trying to live, while those that want to kill it w/o death zerging don’t have annoying runs.
Agreed. I am fully against Magic find and was shocked they added it. It doesn’t help that people running dungeons at 80 for the first time trounce around in Magic Find gear (Because you HAVE to get those lewtz!) then complain when they die.
Heart quest, Traditional WoW quests, or DE’s aren’t much of a “grind” in the real word. DE’s come the close but are more closely aligned with farming which isn’t necessarily the same thing. Dungeons are definitely a grind even if it isn’t much of one.
Grind has always been doing the same thing over a long period of time to earn “X”. If your getting new objectives in new zones (Kill 10 Centaurs vs Kill 10 Flame Shamans / Kill 10 Hellfire board vs Kill 10 Boars) that isn’t grind. It is just a new quest.
Typical older games (that WERE based on grind) like Everquest required you to kill “X” many mobs with no objective till you leveled to do that in another area. This is where WoW shinned as they took that same idea, but masked it under quests. You do the same thing, but it feels more rewarding in the end.
Defensively speaking, we do not have specialists anymore, but each player needs to take care of himself.
This to me is one of the most interesting things about it. It is unlike any other fantasy themepark RPG out there. Lets be honest – EQ/Rift/WoW: A healer is a healer, A tank is a tank, A DPS is a DPS. Sure you might get a different flavor, but just just because you paint something a different color doesn’t change what it fundamentally is. ANet said it would be different – It is. It relies on player skills – your skill – not someone elses to bring you through it. I like that. If you get hit to where your almost downed nobody is going to insta you to full HP and your woopsie is gone. It is there and you better have saved your heal, your shield block, your parry (all of which are important to “tanking” melee’s) I don’t want to have my tank who I played VERY well be brought down by a healer that just isn’t as good anymore. If I wanted to play those games there are a billion of them out there to choose from. A majority free to play at that.
This is different – and it is good.
Lemme rephrase the OP:
“I did a dungeon and wiped. I didn’t have a healer to toss bandages at me to insta heal me back to full for my mistake. The game focuses less on players providing crutches for others and personal skill. Plz fix this devs.”
You didn’t even state what weapons you were wielding, nor your traits, nor your gear stats (yes the color is yellow is amazing, but the stats the flow together matter more.)
Just finished that one. That one warrior boss and his adds can be single pulled.
Final boss was easy too. Kite adds → range boss → Profit. Use condition removal/dodge when needed.
You know what you should fix up on? The NPCs, they sometimes wreck pulls and it’s the most frustrating thing ever.
+++++++++
AI needs to DIE. Especially on fights like Giganticus – during Phase one we were nicely stacked together, but dumbo AI decided to go play traditional Main Tank, and had grubs spawn on her/him. Was really irritating that the AI was considered a “player” even though you have NO control over them.
