Casual here mostly I guess. I am waiting to get a full set of exotics to start explorable runs (no one does Melandru so I have to wait to buy my next piece=/). So maybe most of what I say isn’t useful but I will toss in on Story mode.
AC – Terrible design. Hated the small spaces. Random difficulty spikes on bosses/trash. The camera just doesn’t work right here for me.
CM (Pre-Patch!) – Insanely easy. Too easy. Who came up with the idea of “Does more damage when moving”? The whole “investigate thing” got irritating doing multiple runs, but I suppose we aren’t meant we farm it like I did.
TA – I loved this dungeon tbh. Different mobs have unique abilities (ranger/hammer/fear), but the dungeon allows you to skip some mobs if you want. Different bosses from easy to so so (its SM /shrug). But at least the bosses all did something unique. The final fight after doing all SM dungeons is one of my favorites.
CoF – Fun, but average. Boss fight was kinda neat I suppose.
SE – All but Kudo fight was good (Kudo just lasted TOO long imo and dragged on). Final fight was a huge letdown. Yes hes big, but essentially duoable, and probably soloable.
HotW – Average. I don’t even remember it other than birds in my face. Neat looking and idea for a setting though.
CoE – Ugh. Seriously too much HP on these guys. Kudo final fight was interesting but lasted WAY to long for it remain that way. Hopping from three forms is enough, you don’t have to then add some Vex Thall length on these guys.
Arah – Meh, some fun fights. But letdown all together.
If there is one thing I agree on with the OP more than most is that trash mobs are NOT fun. Let them die fast and have us move on. Overall I don’t think they are the best designed dungeons ever, but not the worse. Maybe that will change when I get my exotic set and go into Explorable (which will hopefully be fixed by then.)
Others are right. You can make him AE us on a cannon, but it is still boring. You can add a couple of mobs spawn. Still boring.
The airship is the problem. We can’t fight control the airship so it is autopilot mode. We can only use cannons at the very end which end up being a spam fest with no thought. Killing endless waves of mobs just ends up being a boring defense mission. Especially since you never really have a sense Zhaitan is even THERE. He might as well be some random dragon flying around, because he sure doesn’t bother you.
We should have fought him on the ground. There is just so much more you can do down there with the game engine compared to being “in air”. You could of even incorporated the airship into the land based battle.
To be perfectly fair – How DO you review an MMO? Do you wait till you have completed all raid content? Do you wait until you are max level? Do you wait till you maxed all crafting skills? Most game reviewers don’t even get to 100% most single player games before reviewing, let along 100% everything in a MMO.
MMO’s are harder to judge because by the time a true 100% fair review is released, they would have patched the game and entirely changed the context of the review.
Say someone came out and released a review saying something similar to "The crafting using cooking is extremely irritating because you have to keep swapping between your collections tab and your discovery tab. – That is 100% true. Till they fixed that. This makes this entire point invalid thus the review invalid.
GW2 "endgame" model is fine. Execution doesn't make sense tho, problem and solution.

@ Sir Moogie – I would love to see that implemented. Would this be linked with only Meta-Events so that newbies in the game wouldn’t get their face punched in by a level 2+++ centaur?
“Emphasis on server, not guild”. This is something ANet should strive for. The DE system is just waiting for it.
I would if the dang Melandru temple wasn’t contested. I want to buy a new exotic piece.
I am having fun though it kinda sucks being in Orr 24/7 due to lack of lower end rewards.

The low level content is definitely easier to high level players. If things were given with the same chance as Orr, there would be noone there and low level areas would be flooded by high level players 2 shotting things.
I think that is one of the issues holding them back. For all the posts of “no progression” it is easy to see when your 80 with full traits the amount of DPS you can put out is just imbalanced for the area’s.
How about this: Any level 80 zone would be excluded from this (so basically Orr/Frostgorge).
If you are 80 downscaled and you go to farm a lower level zone you have a DR on all events across the zone. So basically for a while you get drops your level similar to the rate of Orr. Then it will start to drop gear based on the level range of the zone. It won’t impact Karma etc, but loot wise it will hurt. That allows people who want to salvage gear from those area’s the ability too, and those that want something not filled with undead mobs that pull you or blank white snow a place to kill and progress.
You can then either: Go back to Orr, or go to another zone and hunt there.

Yup agreed. I am currently trying to get a full set of Melandru armor.
I hate doing Orr over and over. I would like to do other zones, but it doesn’t offer the money/karma perma camping Orr does. It works slightly because I have gotten a rare 76+ weapon from a level 25 event, but it is so rare compared to Orr you might as well not do it.
Another pet peeve is that people only run certain events. Grenth is usually killed, while Melandru is usually contested during the week and maybe killed during the weekend. It makes it irritating getting my set solo since that fight is nearly impossible without numbers. I wouldn’t say nerf it, but it would be nice if it was more useful to do a meta event than perma camp defense fights in Orr.
For content updates, that’s a given. But for fixing launch problems, it would be extremely redundant and silly, considering the way the GW update system works.
Can definitely agree with that. They have a ton more on their plate than most MMO’s.
It just EQ has been using a 24/7 test server with no server wide wipes in years (which now that I quit I will state that it had full rights and we were considered gold status players even though we had no sub). So when I read that it would be too costly it was eyebrow raising since EQ isn’tkitten maker for SoE. Even Vanguard has a test server iirc and that REALLY isn’t/wasn’t turning tons of profits.
Then again I am using SoE as an example and they have many MMO’s to support/leech money from.
I have stopped bothering to report them after I saw the same bot I reported 5 times in the exact same spot.
ANet needs to do something. Hopefully MoP launch will ease a bit of them back to get some WoW $$$. Though I doubt it since they bot multiple games.
They need to take into acct heals rezzing etc. Even CC skills if they can manage it.
At 80 in Orr during zerg fests I actually take a moment and think about rezzing people. And most times I don’t bother till the event is over. Rezzing = less loot and chance for bronze/silver.
Dems the breaks=/
Typical forum whine:
“I got max level, maxed crafting, did EVERY dungeon/raid, did most if not all achievements, and have a playtime of at least 200 hours! This game sucks because it has no endgame and is boring. Like who would ever play this game!”
Dev:
:Stares blankly:
@Spawn – Name another P2P MMO with WoW subs? At least 3-4 million at the very least. Can’t? Then don’t bring it to the table. There are TONS of P2P games that struggle to get 1 million subs then hold them.
It doesn’t cost much to run a PTR and they can even swap internal servers if they really wanted since you don’t need to run a test server 24/7 like SoE usually does. Though I doubt they would use their internal servers for Public use.
Member of EQ1 Test server since 2006. There is my “credentials” I suppose.
Orr is made up of three zones, some of which are worse than others.
Cursed shore is by far the easiest to traverse on Borlis pass because all it ends up being is 4 perma camped events with the occasional Grenth/King/Arah defense fights tossed in for a change of scenery. You can literally go between all 4 events with maybe two risen attacking you. All other events are dead zones thus mob density is higher.
I barely go to Grenth anymore because the chest just isn’t worth it for the frustration of usually losing grenth 2 times before it is finally won.
The botters are abound, thankfully if your skilled and the right class you can train them and leave them to die. Sucks when people rez them though. ANet NEEDS to fix the botters though, because they are ALWAYS in the same places so it shouldn’t be hard to put a system to auto suspend accts based on that.
I don’t get what the OP wants? Us to clap for him? This isn’t a disscussion other than “I dun like the game kthxbye.”
You could of done that way easier. Just leave the game. I didn’t make a big post when I left WoW/EQ over and over. To put it short I nor very many people care that you are leaving the game. I don’t know you and so it doesn’t effect me in the least. Your lack of precise critiques are even worse and do nothing to help the game.
Maybe it is a cry for attention /shrug.
People comparing SW:TOR fail to realize a couple things.
The money put into SW:TOR FAR exceeds the money poured into GW2. EA isn’t dumb. They most likely knew they would have to go F2P, but prolly didn’t bet on it this fast. P2P is dying and no don’t use WoW as an argument because WoW itself is an way out there (NO MMO will reach WoW’s base NA/Euro numbers ever again).
The very FACT that it has Star Wars branding on it makes it a way different field. You can’t compare an original IP to something like that. They not only have to maintain a license agreement with Lucas Arts (who refused to futher the agreement with SoE before SW:ToR launched for SWG), Bioware has to make two companies happy.
Lets face it. Guild Wars brand isn’t really strong. Nowhere near something like Star Wars. So please people don’t bring in those “it will go SW:ToR”, because ANet can get away with a lot more with a lot less using their own IP.

*Edit: Ohh yeah and find mystic forge exotics/recipes.
U mean:
1. Grinding Cursed Shore: killing mobs over and over again and earning karma for nothing.
42K karma gear isn’t “nothing”. I am grinding it because that is the set I want to then go do explorables with. Specifically the Melandru set. Wanna know the best thing? I can get Karma anywhere in the world. If I get bored with Orr I can go to a level 30 zone and work toward the best gear in the game. Not many other games can beat that.
3. Grind dungeons over and over again to earn bilion of tokens.
Devs have JUST stated they are changing how many tokens we will get in a run. Also their seems to be a rumor (It wasn’t stated exactly, but kinda hinted) that they will be passasble to alts. So it will be acct bound rather than soulbound.
4. Killing the same bosses over and over again to get nothing.
Meh. Kinda true, kinda not. Rewards for chests need to be boosted I will agree.
5. 100% map ~ 3 days after hit 80.
No casual is gonna do 100% map completion quickly. Not at all. Maybe hardcore that play most the day. Normal gamers? Nope.
6. Zerg Versus Zerg aka WvW. Yes it’s endgame but after taking the same castle over and over again for nothing it’s boring.
Hard to say. It usually doesn’t swap. Its more like this: One team wins WvW withing the first two days. That team then stomps on other teams till rematch. At least thats how it works on borlis pass.
Were mostly upgrading keeps to kill enemies that foolishly want to play. Go Go WvW GPS + insta no cost teleport across the entire map (which is incredible OP for the winning side).
Cursed Shore? There is nothing to do just grinding the same events and killing the same mobs over and over again.
Is grenth/eye/Karma farm area up atm? Yeah that basically describes Cursed Shore atm.
Was this taken when people were server hopping?
If so those numbers aren’t truly accurate as people hopped to the winning side, boosting numbers for one server regardless of participation or not.
The LFG is finding a needle in a haystack. Simply put.
It is worthless. It is hidden under odd UI menu’s requiring players to hunt for it, and the game offers NO help. I am sure most don’t even know it exists.
I have PuGed AC -> Arah storymode multiple time (Excluding CoE because nobody wanted to run it), and I can tell you that nobody on Borlis pass uses it. It is fundamentally flawed design. No comments, doesn’t work server wide, and nobody knows it exists.
There is a reason WoW slabbed the LFD tool right IN your face. So new players coming into the game can go “whats this?” and check it out.
I PuG a lot. I like meeting people, but a game that focuses on the future of MMO design shouldn’t look at the past with rose tinted glasses. Or else we would be doing corpse runs.
I remember the EQClassic crew talking how OOC regen destroyed social aspect in EQ because you didn’t have 5-10 mins of resting for mana (which did lead to conversations). NO game would ever go back to that no matter the social consequences. It is old and so is /map LFG – we need to update.
WoW is much more hardcore than GW2.
Gladiators and world ranking guilds say “Hi.”
Your point? Open world based PvE competitive guilds in EQ said “hi” back.
You can drone on about how hardcore WoW was, but it was built upon the idea of essentially making an easier version of EQ. No trains day in and day out. No guilds having to actually compete against each other in a rush of time to get to spawns. No having to sit hours on end at a raid mobs spawn to make sure you could DPS it faster.
It was all snuggy inside instances which also saved progress. You wouldn’t log off due to a couple wipes in ToV or Kael, because the next day those same mobs would be gone and you would have to wait an entire week to even attempt it.
*Edit: Which btw all those things I listed sucks today. Corpse runs? WoW kiddies wouldn’t deal with it at all. XP penalty to make sure you didn’t die? Nope. Having no Auction house interface? Nope wouldn’t cut it today. How about spending hours running across the world? Yeah that sounds “fun”.
(edited by Dead.7385)
WoW was casual. It sure seemed to work for them.
EQ player here.
Try running from heart to heart in Orr.
It doesn’t work out too well.
Forums represent a VERY small minority of any MMO game.
Deal with it basically.
If you don’t know the difference between a level 30 banner warrior and an 80 one you aren’t 80.
For instance – at level 30 my banners could extend in range iirc. Thats really about it.
At level 80 my banners have extended range, do dmg when summoned, and provide a nice AE regen.
That in itself is progression. My abilities for my build are far greater than a lower level, so much that if you were to look for group it would hinder you more if you picked a level 30 over my 80.
Story mode: Rank of best dungeon
TA – 1 – Fights are fun and enjoyable aside from the hammer trash mob + pack of only hounds. Final fight rocks in a good pug. 4 manning it was the best experience.
CoF – 2 – Like the look and the bosses were enjoyable. Final fight was fun, but not the best.
SE – 3 – Dungeon is ok. Bosses are underwhelming, either too easy (final) or too tedious (Kudo’s golems).
CM Pre-buffed up state – 4 – Was too easy. Got amazing money/xp before the nerf, but even I thought it was too much when I took a guildie from 64 → 80 in the same day doing one dungeon.
Arah – 5 – Long and boring. Bosses are kinda fun (grub eater + Mouth +killing the actual dragons on the airship). Final boss is disappointing compared to the dragon killing earlier.
AC – 6 – I hate that it is enclosed and the 3rd person camera SUCKS inside. The AI gets you killed as he charges off into traps and promptly agros elementalist and rangers alike. If I am turning in the tight enclosed hallways it is irritating to see. Mobs hit hard and bosses bounce from easier than trash (ranger guy) to difficult (first time killing lovers). Lack luster end boss who ends up being a tank’n’spank kill with minimal dodging.
Have not run CoE storymode fully yet. Couldn’t get a group so me and two others went in naked and got about 1/2 way.
And this is where AC fails as a first dungeon, because it does not train players how dungeons may work differently in this game than in other MMOs (it just beats you to death until you learn).
I have said this 1000 times. ANet wanted to “show off” in Beta with AC. Just by the boss dynamics it should have been the 2nd tier dungeon if not the 3rd.
CM had (I have not run the buffed version) little to no great boss fights other than the robot at the start, which could of easily been moved to the end as a final boss.
Seriously compare such amazing abilities as “Does more damage when you move” to something like the lovers and it is from two different worlds. CM should have been the first tutorial dungeon, but I fear they didn’t want to show off a dungeon the l33t crowd would of though “too easy” and not delve deeper into the game. So they tossed AC in first with abilities ripped right from WoW raid mobs that casuals will still have problems with.
tank = not glass cannon build nor slightly DPS specced in this game.
My warrior plays support as a tank build. While others get one shotted I don’t usually.
I wouldn’t mind a mode copied out of DDO for story mode.
You can scale the dungeon from easy (soloable) to elite (Extremly hard). It actually made me replay the same dungeon just to unlock the hardest difficulty for it. If I wanted to play it solo I just dropped it down.
Although not sure how it would work here with places like Arah that need two people to open a door etc.
I am sure they have in-game commands to hide themselves. GM’s have been doing it for a very long time across multiple games. It allows them to find exploiters in the act and how bugs come about. How players REALLY react aside from they post what they do.
In essence they can see you, but you can’t see them….unless they want you too.
Magic find should be banned from anything but consumables.
I kinda agree. This is coming from someone who went out to do a magic find set.
It is just a pain to deal with. If they must keep it, make it a cooking buff only like it is already.
Please pay for so you can feel as though you are “winning”.
ANet needs your support. And I want updates.
Level 80 and one orange piece of temple gear. (42K karma)
I consider myself above casual.
ANet:
“Lets boost the time for match up’s to 7 days”
Person:
“Won’t that make servers that get stomped even worse? With free transfer available this won’t work. People will skip to the winning team.”
ANet:
“Now why would someone swap servers to the winning side!? Server pride will keep it in check!”
Looks at score – clicks Transfer.
I still need a crap load more Karma for my Melandru set. So not much reason to quit yet.
Please can’t we have a game without open world faction based PvP….just once?
Also, why would the Inquest join non asura (who they see as inferior experimental slaves)? Why would the flame legion ally with Human bandits? The “Evil” factions are very much like 40K, they hate each other just as much as they hate you.
The explorable dungeons are a failed experiment.
The path system does NOT work. ANet should ditch it and work on one explorable path at a time=/
I would like to see them fraps themselves killing a boss we the current playerbase said is impossible.
It would prove them right if done correctly /shrug.
Here is a question:
If you don’t require the dungeon exotic set to run the dungeon being that you are currently running the dungeon to BUY the set. And the dungeon itself is the closest thing to endgame.
Do you really NEED the exotic?

Hey guys!
Want no que? Join Borlis pass.
It does sound epic, but I don’t think Guild Wars 2 should reintroduce the failed concept of competition in the PVE environment.
It wouldn’t really happen that way due to how Guild Wars 2 offers loot and xp. Two guild “competing” just means more DPS for both guilds in the end as loot is put on the person themselves rather than one set from a loot table on the mob.
Then again I would be more into Karma vendors giving loot for Meta Event bosses similar to what they have done with the Temples. Then change chests to include random chance for appropriate set items sold by the karma vendor (so you can potentially get one for free if you are lucky) with semi low drop rate + 1/2 100% to drop yellows.
Your daily reminder, how fun playing WvW on Borlis Pass is.
Oh wait, it isn’t.
I went and capped a supply + two sentries to have a mass of bored Emry bay come kill me. There was 3 other people on the map from what I could see (including me=/).
It is REALLY awesome they have a map that shows what and where we are attacking even though we have no real manpower to much of anything. /sarcasm
/e Opens up WvW map for Borlis Pass server
/e Sees everything captured
/e looks at money
Decides to go grind Orr. Cause it isn’t worth it.
It is really bad when you zone in and there is NOBODY to help you. No shouting strats, nothing. Maybe they meant it for guilds only, but for solo players it stinks.
Especially since even if I get three friends to cap something the enemy camping the tower outside spawn can see EXACTLY where we are and go counter attack even though were out manned. That is really irritating.
I would not like to instance raids. Coming from a hardcore EQ player.
If we were to develop hardcore (and no Orr isn’t hardcore at all) I would tell the devs to look at the first two raid zones EQ introduced. Plane of Fear and Plane of Hate.
Most people who remember Fear don’t immediately go to kill the main god or the demi’s, because the was shockingly not the most intense part of the zone. It was one truly unique designed zone as each mob had abilities that fit certain areas (Shadow Step and fear + Monkey AoE etc). The trash mobs posed a real threat unlike most modern raids were trash IS trash and wasted time. The trash themselves dropped set gear (Which wouldn’t work the same in GW2), but it gave purpose to wanting to clear trash rather than skip.
A modernized Plane of Fear style zone using the Dynamic Event system would do wonders. Have zoning in be a real danger fighting mobs equal to dungeon difficulty with nasty abilities. Have events set off chains to set up camps (similar to Orr) that have to be defended or else you back to breaking into the zone. Have multiple bosses per zone but tricks so that you need at least two groups to complete such as “X” gimmick stuns him so you can do dmg him safely, but needs supplies so you have to have a team escort the supplies. One team has to guard the “X” gimmick from mobs so your allied AI don’t decide to retreat.
Just needs hp reduction. Killed him three times with different PuGs. The only annoying part is his massive hp imo.
Drop armor repair costs in Dungeons
Drop armor repair costs in WvW
Adjust some mobs in Dungeons
Everyone gets a nice beer to drink.
Or perhaps I should get back to standing outside of dungeon entrances and shouting in the general map chat to attempt to find myself a group (and most likely failing such as on previous accounts?).
Which dungeon are you looking for? Certain ones are more popular than others.
Also use Lions Arch + Dungeon entrance. It is a pain but it works.

Yeah. You are sure one to respect that whole “Opinion thing”. We don’t care if you were banned. The world wouldn’t really care and ANet wouldn’t miss you.
To put it simple: You aren’t important as you think you are.
I’m simply providing my opinion on the game and agreeing with other people who share the same opinion. Freedom of speech really.
Your on a forum. Your freedom of speech is regulated by ANet.
To put it bluntly: You don’t have freedom of speech on the message board owned by a company.
….but nice try.
Anonymous, it is ok you aren’t feeling the game, but I can’t understand why you or anyone else are hanging around since you don’t seem to like it.
