The tower is dead after today’s patch.

Most of this list has already been completed, and our December 10 release includes a few more items to cross off our wish list before we head to the holidays:

The culmination of the Tower of Nightmares story arc in Kessex Hills.
The return of one of our favorite holidays, Wintersday, just in time to celebrate the end of the Tower of Nightmares battle!

I was able to get a zerg together and get up there luckily. It was a little frustrating at first. The condition damage in that tower can just be so much, especially when you’re solo or with just 1 or 2 others.

With the LS post today, it’s safe to assume the tower comes down with the patch.

I’m on the opposite side of the spectrum for this.

I was very interested in one aspect. The teaser that after the last 4 updates for this Season 1 of LS, the next round of major features will be bundled together into a large “feature only” release that will come after the first season of the Living World 2014 has finished. That has me excited.

Also, there is finally an end game announced. That is good to know.

While I’ll agree that Mini’s and back skins are becoming way to abundant in the reward category, it is a reward. At the end of the day, you don’t need to go for the achievements or get those rewards if you don’t feel the need to. It’s very simple to experience the LS content without the grinding feeling of Achievement hunting and then continue your normal GW2 play.

To say we haven’t had anything added to the game this year sounds misinformed to me. At least in my opinion.

Was everything implemented this last year perfect? Nope. To me, it was satisfying though. Every few weeks I had something new to look forward to and something that kept me playing. When i got bored with that, I just went on to the other hundreds of things I can do in the game.

The patch tomorrow fixes this.. but according to the progress bar.. the tower will be done by tomorrow…

So lame. here I go hopping into the tower thinking I can use my keys before this LS goes away and low and behold… golems reset because ANET thought we would have finished this sooner…..

God forbid that randoms, unguildeds, and pugs try to play with the community by joining the groups on teamspeak. On blackgate we encourage all players to join us on TS. If you’re unwilling to join us, then don’t follow us.

If you want to be a casual, go be a casual. Don’t follow a hardcore, organized group if you don’t want to be hardcore or organized.

Nothing was said about TS… or playing as a community. OP clearly says that this guild just insults people and tells them not to follow. That is in no way effective at all for any community.

As others have said, if they were to politely say they are doing a guild thing or even suggest others don’t run with them, well then that’s another story.

The achievement rewards are purely optional though. It’s just another incentive for a player to go for. GW2 provides many of those, from Dungeons to Fractals. You don’t need to hunt for them….

Also, all the LS Achievements can be done in a few days and that’s not even grinding. The Season 1 Meta for WvW is a different animal, but you also had 7 weeks to complete it, not the normal 4 weeks.

As a side note.. the Achievement chests and Meta rewards do not give any players an edge.

I’ve used my servers TS a few times. Honestly, I get more from the people there than the Commanders. Most often the Commander is just yelling skills to drop and for people to stack on them. Even casual players can figure out to stack on the tag. If they don’t know what skills to use.. well then that’s a whole other story.

There is one good aspect of the TS though. You do get better scouting reports and can react faster to that. To say you need an entire zerg in TS though…. meh. Not needed IMO.

Game by far. I only use the forums while I’m at work. If I could play the game at work, I’d rather do that. Too much QQ on the forums.. I always have to remind myself that those are other peoples opinions and to not let them drag me down.

I play 5 toons…. I like them all as they all have unique parts to play.

I use my Warrior when I want to bring high DPS.
I use my Guardian when I want more stability and survivability but still good DPS.
I use my Engineer because he has so many fun tools and gadgets to use that I can change my build up often and feel like it’s a new character.
I use my Elementalist for fun. I love swapping attunements while I dance around dropping fire/earth/water/air fields all over the place.
I use my Thief in WvW as I love being able to stealth and run around where ever I like.

Their all fun. I have a Ranger too but haven’t used him much and still want to get 2 more slots so I can have all the professions.

They changed something with Grenades back in the early parts of the game. I don’t recall what that is now. This may be it as whatever it was made Grenades underwater OP. Again, it was a long time ago and I may be remembering this wrong.

There is no word on if there will even be a Season 2.

Most of those achievements are still found int he WvW tab anyways albeit that they are much harder/longer to get.

on topic: as wvw players we are accustomed to lousy rewards, but this is beyond anything i can write here (insert some insults here). loot you can get during one evening of farming in orr, a stack of finishers (not even permanent).

well to be honest.. aside from the mini, finisher, and ascended mats, I was able to get most of these rewards by playing WvW for 2 hours last night…

So… In protest is everyone going to NOT play WvW tonight at reset?

Nah.. At the end of the day this will change absolutely nothing. If anything, it will lessen the urge for players to go for the Meta Achievement if there is a Season 2.

We can’t even get permanent finishers for the WvW reward chests and you want permanent AREAS!?!

I can honestly say that if there is a Season 2 meta like Season 1, I won’t care about getting that chest like I did for this one.

I don’t really get this attitude. Maybe it’s the old school gamer in me, but I just don’t see what the big deal is. You don’t want to go do PvE? Great, don’t. No body is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to get ascended armor. The difference in stats is just a few points and is not going to make bad players indestructible.

And this stuff isn’t even a grind! Guild Wars 2 has absolutely no long drawn out challenging items to acquire in comparison to other games. In Vanguard I literally spent 2 weeks alone on an island devoid of all player activity hunting the same mobs in order to get an ultra rare instrument for my bard. Back in original EQ days we had epic quests that were truly epic – multiple boss mobs that were on two, three, four day spawn timers that would maybe drop one of the item you wanted, that you then had to /random against all of the other players who also needed it to attain their epics. Boss spawns at 4am and you are asleep? Too bad, better luck next week. This game is an absolute joke for how easy it is to get the ‘rare’ stuff, and yet people still complain that it’s not just handed to them when they log in.

Honestly, what do we want ANet to do? Keep track of how much time we spend in a tower twiddling our thumbs or building arrow carts, and then send us a legendary for our efforts? Not to minimize those efforts, we all do them because that’s what it takes to win… but seriously, how in the world can ANet truly reward those basic parts of WvW? They would be so easily botted and exploited it wouldn’t be funny, and we would have an army of new PvE’ers running into keeps and building 100 rams to ‘achieve’ something. And even if you are on a server where stuff doesn’t flip that often, there’s open field fighting, and players drop loot too when they are killed. T1-ers can maybe legitimately complain about Dragonite drop rates in WvW – I personally think the drop rate should be modified by how long the keep has been owned – but if it’s true that an evening of WvW is 4 hours of ZvZvZ with nothing flipping, that’s still 100’s if not 1000’s of players being killed on a nightly basis and dropping bags/chests. I’m on a lowly 4th place silver server and last week I got nearly 2000 kills + 45 rank chests – amid days of scouting and upgrading and watching our side of EBG at that. I’ve seen the FA and SBI zergs recently. I’ve seen TC back in the day and know what kind of numbers are out there… the loot you can farm against that number of people is incredible. So, are we also drawing lines in the sand against having to go out and PK in a PvP mode too?

The ‘best/most unique/coolest’ equipment in any game should involve – to an extent – participation in each aspect of the game – and that includes crafting or any other alternate advancement or gaming method the game includes. It’s there as a carrot to branch out and try everything. It’s not a requirement in order to play, and you aren’t less of a person for not having it… but if you desperately want it you have to be willing to earn it. Not just throw a tantrum because you can’t get it by standing around and watching the game be played.

The only thing that concerns me about ascended armor is the likely outcome that heavies will see more of a benefit from it due to a higher % increase in armor. Making oft played warriors and guards that much stronger in comparison.

An Ascended Weapon would nullify this change though, would it now?

Currently everyone runs exotics with some now getting Ascended Weapons. So currently they have the edge. When Ascended Armor comes, this then would bring everything back to when everyone had Exotic’s. Am I thinking about this wrong?

Also remember that just because Ascended Armor comes, it’s going to take a truly dedicated person at least a few weeks if not months to get a full set of Ascended Armor.

What is PVE Rubric?

Go into the heart of the Mists (crossed swords icon t the top of your screen), find the PvP locker (you may need to do a brief tutorial first) then look at the armor skins. There is one complete set + the full guild armor set in there for each weight class that don’t have PvE equivalents.

So you are saying you get 6-15 dragonite a day by waltzing into keep takes during matchups that have been reportedly lopsided in your favor anyway. That’s still 33-83 days per weapon. Go to PvE, put in the same time, and you’ll get enough dragonite in a few days. The argument is valid.

Yeah, the Dragonite is the tricky one. Especially if you’re on a low pop server or lower tier WvW server. I was lucky enough that I have commanders on nearly all times of the day and am able to join up in TS and follow them to victory and loot.

Honestly the best place I’ve seen that drops Dragonite is from dungeon runs or Temple runs. This would involve WvW only players to journey outside that foray though.

If the season ends tonight, that would be awesome. I want my Achievement chest

The good news is… that Ascended Armor will be time gated just like the charged quartz is. So technically… you’ll have more time to charge up quartz for Ascended Celestial Armor.

And there lies the problem does it not. You cannot get the gear or weapons by playing the game and having fun. You need to stop that and farm mats.
It’s a basic flaw imo to force people to craft because the drops in this game are so kitten horrid.

You misconstrue what I said. I’m not saying farm.. I’m saying you can’t stand at the edge of SMC scouting for 3 straight hours and expect to get rewards and drops. You have to do objectives or events in which this entire game is built around to get rewards.

You can’t hang out in LA and get rewards, you’ll need to do a dungeon every now and then or a LS event or something.

That’s the point I’m trying to make. You have to be proactive in getting these mats. You don’t need to farm though. You don’t need to be in a champ train or karma train to get these achievements. Do they make it easier? Sure.

You get gold.. Not to mention all of the maps for WvW are littered with the gathering nodes you need for crafting as well.

Take 3 gold and go buy some very cheap Exos on the TP. You can find some for under 1 gold. Salvage and you’ll find some dark matter…… I spent 5 gold the other day on this as I needed about 10 dark matter to finish my Ascended Weapon. Bought 6 exotics, salvaged and ended up with 15 Dark Matter.

Take a quick WP to Orr and grab some Jewelery Boxes with your Karma. You’ll get more karma, gold, and Obsidian Stones. Now go take your stacks of Empyreal and craft them into Empyreal Stars…

I mean.. C’mon. Again, just excuses. I will admit that the Dragonite Ore is the one thing that can be more tricky to pile up on as you need to take Keeps to get that. I play WvW for far less than 3 hours a day though and can easily jump in and take 2 or 3 keeps with a group that is already doing that very thing.

Except, having 4 alts, I spend my karma on trinkets. 42kx4x2 because one build is boring.

I float around 1,000,000 Karma. When I hit that, I head to orr and drop 200k on boxes so I can get the shards I need. Even with your breakdown above, you’re only looking at 336,000 karma which to me, isn’t much.

Uh, that’s actually an extreme poor analogy. In a basketball game, the 1st quarter of a basketball game is when they warm up. The most crucial period, also known as “clutch time”, is actually the last 5 minutes of the game. WvW, however, it’s reset weekend where things are the most important when it comes to fights. It’s when all the serious WvW guilds show up on reset and every server has their maps queued. Whether it’s SEA or EU, people will show up and get maps queued up. When weekdays come about, it all goes to coverage. Whoever have the bigger population that can show up 24/7.

For example, DB’s SEA presence is still godly. So they usually come about sweeping all our keeps even if it’s fully upgraded. Does that mean our entire server suck? Well, uh, no. It means we lack WvWers in that period in relative to the opponent’s numbers. The samething could be said of DB when on our NA primetime. They seem to lack the population and you could obviously see it on reset weekend. They have their own players validating this statement.

PPT to most serious WvW guilds means almost nothing. They know it ultimately comes down to coverage. Bigger servers will mostly (but not definitively) stomp smaller servers. We come for the fights. Thanks for some of the FA/DB here at least that isn’t trasktalking or trolling because they’re bored.

I would like to clarify that I was i no way trash talking or trolling. I simply pointed out that out of a 7 day battle, to claim SBI won the first 2 or 3 days of that just has no validation at all.

The basketball analogy wasn’t a poor one. You’re just delving into the analogy a little too much. Let me try to flesh it out some. If a basketball endgame score is 85-54 but the losing team was up by 6 points at the end of the first quarter, does that matter? No it doesn’t. At the end of the day, they lost. There was 3 other quarters to play.

That’s the point. SBI may have one day 1 and 2. They are losing day 3,4, and 5 though. The arguments of coverage is old as well. Everyone who plays the game of WvW understands the coverage pains.

What I’d love to see here on these forums instead of QQ though is GvG set ups between BAGS and HOPE or other guilds. Let’s stop seeing all the trash going back and forth how they all 1v5 people and there 10 man mob destroyed a 50 man zerg. Let’s see these high powered guilds set some things up and battle it out. Make it even, make it fair, make it fun.

That’s the biggest hold up for me.

I dont mind the grind to 500 crafting.
I dont mind the grind/gold sink for mats.
I dont mind the time gated materials.

I HATE that I’m forced to by more transmutation stones to keep the look of the gear I spent hundreds of gold already on.

Wah you one of the luckiest players then. I can’t afford crafting to 500. I can’t afford buying materials. I don’t have tons of time-gated materials. Oh yes, in case you didn’t notice, I’m a WvW player.

I’m primarily a WvW player aside from the occasional fractal that friends drag me along on and I managed to craft 6 ascended weapons so far. Flip camps and keeps. its really not as hard to get that stuff as some people seem to think it is. And if you walk around all the borderlands, you can mine and chop the majority of the crafting materials you need because for some odd reason the ascended stuff requires a lot of low level crafting materials. Just wander by yourself and kill stuff. And pay attention to map chat so you know when your side is flipping something so you can run over and get in on it. you don’t have to follow them around constantly, just pay attention to what they’re doing and get in on it when they flip keeps. That’s really the best advice I can give if you’re like me and don’t have the patience to do events in pve waiting for some boss to spawn.

I would have to agree with this 10 fold. I personally got the last of my mats for my Ascended weapon by playing WvW the last few weeks. Capturing points, killing people, gathering on the maps. There is so many ways to get the mats you need as well as gold in WvW.

light armor: KILL IT WITH FIRE, only part i like are the gloves and boots (and i primary an elementalist charr)
medium armor: helmet seems a tad outta place
heavy armor: helmet on a fem charr looks like a crown lol (but destroy’s whatever hair im using) dont really like the shoulders but everything else seems easy to work with

If you are gloating about PPT go ahead, you get an average of 10k lead every day because of time zone gaps. But our NA can definitely match yours.

And if you really think having a lot of PPT is impressive, check out week 40, before leagues. SBI rolled FA by 70k

I would love to see some new explorable areas… but a new one every 2 months seems to be asking a lot. Just my opinion.

The minotaurs are no more than mindless beasts. The Jotun however are sentient creatures. That alliance makes no sense but neither did the krait and the nightmare court, or the dredge and the flame legion.

Maybe the Jotun will enslave the Minotaurs. Or maybe Scarlet will give the Minotaurs intelligence if they agree to work with the Jotun. They are very strong, so they could build lots of towers all over the world.

I just crafted an Ascended Shortbow for my alt the other day. Nothing unfriendly about it.

Ask rest of us who have +3 characters. +/-3 weapons for every character one per +/-2 weeks x 4 characters (if you have 4 characters and i know lot of people who have) = +/-24 weeks of weapon crafting. This is extremely alt unfriendy and armor will be much more terible.
PS: You have to craft every day otherwise you can delay completion greatly.

Oh ok. I get it now. I have 5 characters personally. It does take a long time to craft, especially if you are limited to 4 hours or so of playtime a day. It took me until just this week to finally get all the mats I needed for that short bow.

IDK if I’ll ever get a full set of Ascended Armor on 1 of my toons let alone all 5, but I sure as kitten will be trying!

So… people were upset because Halloween events didn’t all come back and the new stuff they added in was too short and not that fun. I agree a little on the lack of Halloween stuff.

Now people are mad because the Wintersday Stuff is the same and has a lot of stuff going on?

That sounds like a crappy situation but it looks like you tried to make it better in the end.

I do love the LFG tool though for helping me get through Fractals. it seems every time at least 1 or 2 people rage quit and then are replaced with better people. Not saying that’s the case this time obviously.
