I don’t understand how anyone on this forum can complain about anything. The pets were absolutely FANTASTIC!

Since when are pets amazing?

Since the fire wyvern and smokescale were revealed.

The heals are way too strong. All conditions roll right off. 13 conditions cleansed in one go with no ICD.

I’m not sure where the druid would be best placed just yet but there are going to be very few things that can bring it down.

The asura should have wiped them all out when they had the chance. Sure the sylvari are kind, helpful and relatively peaceful people but they’re also naive, weak willed, morons.

It’s not about not liking the sylvari as a race. It’s about the fact that ANY of them could turn at ANY time and you wouldn’t even know right away. I for one would not bet my LIFE on the idea that all of these potential enemies can resist forever. My little asura (master race) is smarter than that.

Kill them all, I say. Kill them while they sleep. They’re dreaming about ripping our skin off anyway.

Power or Ferocity

in Revenant

Posted by: Demented Yak.6105

Demented Yak.6105

Ferocity gives 0.067% damage per point (AT 100% CRIT ONLY). Power gives 0.1% damage per point. Isn’t that really all we need to know?

Power is better. It’s good to have both but when you have the option of picking one or the other, your decision should be obvious.

I think the more useful question would be whether or not power or precision is better.

This view likely comes from how I handle traits as a whole. I want passive bonuses, that improve my overall potential strength, but I look for the always on traits as opposed to the long cooldown proc skill traits.

I agree in that I generally prefer traits I can use all the time and very consistently.

I do like the idea for the RotGD trait though. I’d like it a lot more if we got the condition damage reduction all the time (I suppose you’d have to lower the percentage a bit) but either way, this’ll be a great replacement for the hammer. Thanks Roy.

Revenant is Too Weak to Condis

in Revenant

Posted by: Demented Yak.6105

Demented Yak.6105

This isn’t GW1 and things are balanced differently. Adding condition transfer to Shiro would be a problem, IMO.

It would have to be lightweight, because a condition transfer on any attack is very powerful. Maybe it would be 1 or 2 conditions on a 5 or 10 second icd, because Impossible Odds is a very expensive upkeep.

If a revenant starts with 100 energy and uses no skills impossible odds will last nine seconds; alternatively, if they switch to shiro from another legend, with 50 energy it will last four seconds.

They can probably make it transfer one condition per strike with a one second interval and it might not be anything overly strong.

The revenant energy mechanic ranges from +5 energy per second to -5 energy per second. Without any upkeeps, it stays at +5. Impossible odds does not take 10 energy from you every second. It puts your energy loss at -5 per second (5 -10 = -5). So from 100% you get 18 seconds and from 50% you get 8 seconds.

What builds are you thinking about ?

in Revenant

Demented Yak.6105

At the moment I’m going to make my Rev quite tanky due to making my ascended gears mainly soldiers related and wanting to get rid of some of my current ascended trinckets leftovers.

Also I definitely going to have Herald elite spec and I definitely going to used a hammer (you always got to have a range weapon in PVE) althought does that means I automatically have to used Jalis legend? With Herald, Retribution (since it ties in with Jalis) the last trait will be Invocation.

You don’t have to use Jalis with the hammer. In fact, they have pretty minimal synergy. Any weapon can be used with any legend quite effectively.

Duels - Well Chronomancer vs Revenant

in Revenant

Posted by: Demented Yak.6105

Demented Yak.6105

He was running Hammer/sword+sword with Glint and Shiro. He was using the retribution, devastation and herald traitlines.

As far as I can tell, this was probably his build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlAQNAscin3gWNSuQrJRboBlsP0fS4I6QJ4EdrkFNFSdG74HtBIBNwugJMiA-TpQOAB9WGAg9HAA

Most other people were using something along the lines of: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlAQNAsemn3guNSuQ7JRboZlsP0rS4IaVJ4EdskFNFidMppNtBYBNwugJshA-TpgSABAs/ArlBAA

For most of BWE2, I was mostly running: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlAQNAsein3gWNSuQrJRboBlsP0fS4I6QJ4EdrklZlhNmb2RNgEewe6r3G-TpgSABAs/ArlBAA

I must admit that I only really know the basics of chronomancer but I’ll give the other questions a go.

I would definitely not have used unrelenting assault (the teleport-evade thing with the sword) while you had all your illusions up. When you ran behind that wall, if he had used phase traversal and then burst of strength (20 vuln) with unrelenting assault or auto-attacked with impossible odds, he could have done some serious damage.

I would also not have used the hammer so much at close range. He could have avoided a lot of damage by keeping by keeping a larger range (easy with Shiro) when using hammer and not using hammer 5 (big floating hammer) so often on you. Using hammer 5 on such a mobile target is just a waste of precious energy. It’d would have been a lot better to stay back and spam coalescence of ruin (hammer 2).

He also seemed to use infuse light about 2-3 seconds too late, especially when you used blurred frenzy. It’s obviously it’s impossible to predict every move your opponent makes in time but there were a few times he could easily have had the upper hand if he’d used those blocks and invulnerabilities in time.

What I cannot stress enough if you are a hammer revenant is that you must keep a large distance between you. Hammer 4 (projectile absorb) is quite useless in close combat yet your opponent used this and hammer 2 at very close range quite a few times.

Lastly, he didn’t seem to have a great command of his available skills (though I suppose it’s understandable considering how little time we got to play with them). I didn’t see any jade winds, impossible odds or bursts of strength. I think I saw one phase traversal but he was right next to you and you were using blurred frenzy so it was a bit of a waste.

All a chronomancer really needs to do with a revenant is stay in a reasonable proximity with their illusions and use as many conditions as possible. A hell of a lot of revenants seem to rely heavily on unrelenting assault (god knows why) so having even one illusion near you will mitigate the damage significantly.

Ultimately, this is probably not what you should expect when facing a revenant. A lot of revenants will be running with invocation which gives basic condition removal (something your opponent had absolutely none of outside of riposting shadows) and 40% critical hit chance from fury (as opposed to 20%). Then there’s Mallyx. Some people will be running this legend and it’ll be a lot harder to use conditions against them. In this event, you’ll want as much CC as possible as the Mallyx legend has no stunbreaks outside of invocation and it’s reasonably unlikely that they’ll be using any of the stability traits.

Feel free to disagree with any of this. Again, I have a very basic knowledge of chronomancer and I don’t use my mesmer every often.

Warrior shield vs revenant shield

in Warrior

Posted by: Demented Yak.6105

Demented Yak.6105

Rev shield 5 is only 3 seconds. You also can’t move. All the weapon skills have a relatively low cooldown because energy management is also a factor. Shield 5 has a pretty hefty energy cost. Trust me, nobody in their right mind is going to be using this skill every 20 seconds.

There are those on the revenant forum who’d very much prefer the Rev’s shield 5 to be just a 3 second block with no root or heal. The grass is always greener on the other side, I guess.

It’d be about as viable as an elementalist staying in fire forever or an engineer who never uses any kits. It’s technically possible and you probably wouldn’t die ALL the time but it’s just a waste. If you want to play like that, you’d probably be better off with a warrior or maybe a ranger.

gameplay style ?

in Revenant

Posted by: Demented Yak.6105

Demented Yak.6105

You can do just about everything with the revenant. Each legend covers a pretty large area of gameplay.

Here’s a very simplistic and superficial description of the style of each legend and weapon:

Shiro/sword: Frontline damage and mobility.
Jalis: Tank and some support at any range.
Hammer: Backline damage with a nice projectile absorb.
Ventari: Mega-support at any range.
Staff: Frontline damage and support.
Glint: Support with boon pulses and some mid-range damage options and utility.
Shield: Support and block.
Mace/axe: Frontline condition weapons.
Mallyx: Frontline conditions and utility with resistance.

Ultimately, it’s just better if you play it.

The UA change

in Revenant

Posted by: Demented Yak.6105

Demented Yak.6105

Why would you use UA skill off cooldown anyway. I barely used it every 20 seconds.

Is this how other people play in pvp? Spam the best skills they have and hope for the best?

Longer cd with extra 2 seconds so 12 total now.

I’d prefer a 10% damage reduction much more.

Why? With sword I never use 2, with shield 4 and 5 are both situational and don’t always need used off cooldown. UA was really our only skill with the weapon skills worth using off cd. We are just auto attackers really

2s more on cd is better then 10% reduction. The skill is already weaker then AA, so it has to be worth the energy.

Adding cd is a smart move because it doesn’t lower too much your sustained dps, but you can dodge less frequently

If thats the case than i want to see a buff to the legend skills to off set for this nerf.

because demon Unyielding Anguish also got nerfed. What legend is now good for pvp that isnt Elite Specialization. ….?

Mallyx is still good for PvP along with Jalis and Shiro. Don’t be so dramatic. This is turning in to the ranger forum – the way everyone’s saying: “Poor us. Life is so unfair”.

Suggestion for Crystal Hibernation rooting

in Revenant

Posted by: Demented Yak.6105

Demented Yak.6105

It seems unlikely to change at this time.

This is going to be one of those “give it time” topics where we’re gonna have to leave Shield is the way it is, let people get wrecked in SPvP with a shield because players adapt and simply time out the block and follow it up with massive burst in their location just like used to happen with the Engie shield. People stop using it, it gets adjusted to what it should have been now, life moves on, and we get back to a more consistently designed game where (regardless of game mode) mobility is life.

At least Axe is still pretty amazing. Still honestly mulling a Frostfang.

Don’t be absurd. If you actually get bursted after this skill finishes, you deserve to die. There are tons of options for immediately avoiding bursts with this profession.

If you’re particularly frightened of this non-issue, you could always just cancel the skill half a second early by swapping weapons and then dodge out the way of any incoming attacks.
