Incidentally I’ve no problem with the events for what their purpose is: Making shedloads of cash. There seems to be zero integrity to them story-wise.

I think you’re only hurting yourself here by drawing conclusions so early. Perhaps they do and that question will be answered soon enough. You don’t know, stop making assumptions. It will, in my opinion, only make the experience all the more sour.

The really hilarious plot gaffe is that the first thing Jennah or our character should have suggested doing was going and talking to The Pale Tree about who she is. That would have been a great way to figure out how to approach the situation and flesh out more of the plot about who she is. It all just seems so disjointed. I am sure we will get more info later, but for now it feels like the end of Guild Wars 1 did when EotN ended. We got an ending but it just begged for more questions and those questions never got answered. The same thing seems to be happening here. I know that I want an actual story with a concise beginning, middle, and end. Even if it isn’t a story I like, at least it will make sense and be well laid out. This is just kinda messy for now. I will reserve total judgment for when the event ends. Surprise me with story for once ArenaNet! I love the rest of the game, but the storytelling is kinda lacking in the coherent department.

Sometimes though, if well done, more questions are better than all doors closed and nothing left unanswered. At least I have that with movies and such.

You need to advance the story as many have said yea. Do the instance in Divinity, you’ll get sent into the world to do events, collect stuff and finally confront Scarlet herself. After that it’s open again.

Yes, but did we know about it? No. That’s why it’s a surprise to us. I, and many, actually enjoy the massive events. The only thing that I dislike is that there’s no consequence when it fails (a good thing would’ve been the Dynamic event system that Rift has, when you fail, villages get overrun etc. etc. and you have to free everything again). But then again, this is something new and something they can learn from.

I, for one, am happy to be on this journey with ArenaNet that’s taking place, trying new things, going against the grain and learning from it. The potential of this game is immense and seeing as no LS has had the 8 weeks development time they will have in about a month, I am very optimistic.

Culling removed in combination with an LS patch where the whole server bunches up in one area of one map, with overflows in overflows where events don’t happen and people are stuck.

Seeing as they did this update quite abruptly and as a surprise, whose to say not another will take place next week, giving some of those answers? I always try not to get too hyped up (expect the worst, pray for the best is something I take to heart for pretty much anything in life). Also I think you will be in a better position to judge after this content has passed. We can all actually draw conclusions from what has happened, give proper feedback to ANet and they can learn from it.

I think Eir & Logan are the least offensively annoying of the mains. with Rytlock & Zojja just being totally jerks in an attempt to have “attitude”.

Rytlock doesn’t come off as a jerk if you’re not following Logan around. Seriously, my Blood Legion warrior had a completely different experience with him. And his interactions with Rox aren’t bad until she brings up the warband like a fangirl. (Which she is.)

Zojja on the other hand, and by extension most of the asura, always come off badly. I mean, even Vekk did from time to time but he grew on me a lot easier. Probably because he was less interested in showing off his intelligence over others and more about getting rid of the destroyers.

This. And once you get to know the background behind Logan and Rytlock and Eir and Zoijja you’ll understand the anger and bitterness. Read the Edge of Destiny novel or do some research and it will become clear. And yea in general those two races are pretty harsh to begin with. Asura are annoying little know it alls and Charr are bitter given their past (the majority at least). Every Asura in the other books I’ve read have the same type of character at first, but once they get to know them, they’re really something else.

Haha my girlfriend said the exact same thing. I like her too. It’s a bit quick to judge on it all, but then again this is the interwebs where opinions are fact and we all need to agree to it. She’s just been introduced give it some time to grow on you, she’ll most likely be returning more often, that’s my guess at least. As if ‘The Joker’ was immediately awesome from day 1 when he was introduced. Characters need to grow on you, shallow or not. Perhaps Scarlet is deeper than what appears to be.

Perhaps it will be expanded upon with a week? Two weeks? I think we should draw conclusions afterward, give proper feedback and Anet can learn from it. It’s a bit too soon to draw them imo. Maybe...a couple weeks down the line she comes back again like most LS stuff that returns after a while?

The story seems very shallow.

Scarlet isn’t a well developed villian. Besides a couple minor mentions, she came out of nowhere. There were some really cool theories about how Livia or Ellen Kiel could have been Scarlet, which I think would have been more interesting.

On top of that, do we even know what her motivation is? So far it just seems like she’s a bad guy doing bad things cause that’s what bad guys do.

It’s all so one dimensional, black and white writing with no twists or surprises.

Thing is: if you make a complicated story, especially with temporary content like this, then ‘casuals’ or people that simply don’t play so much, perhaps take a break here and there, will have a hard time understanding it. Also. Livia could have never been Scarlet.

I’m loving this stuff, honestly. But I find myself more than often not having enough time to get to Scarlet in time for a chance at the bonus chest and all that. Anyone else have the same?

My suggestion is a simple flat damage increase as there’s SO MANY people anyway. Or perhaps have a 1min timer before you can engage her, something though. It’s a bit trivial perhaps, but a little annoying at times.

The theory is extremely cool and though indeed there is evidence for deep stories like that A-Net hasn’t presented any of it in a good way, making it look extremely shallow. I hope they learn from their mistakes soon enough and we do get stories like that. It shouldn’t be too deep, because then it would be impossible for people to follow who play it more casually.

I understand them and eventhough there have been slight improvements, I would love to pickup the Turrets again one day as I’ve enjoyed them tremedously while leveling, but they are very underwhelming at the moment..

IMO- if we’re being reasonable, a game like guild wars 2 which is based off of horizontal progression is missing out big time by not implementing mounts. How are they any different from cosmetic armor or weapons? It’s another things for players to collect (keep them playing) and another way to make money. If they implemented them in a way that rift of WoW did I think it would really be a positive thing. They could be special drops from world bosses, from events or achievements and sold in the gem store, also with their own achievements tied to them.

I think the argument of them making players skip all the scenery falls really flat. We already have speed increases and waypoints. If I had a mount personally I would be more incentivized to run places as oppose to way pointing which truly does make the world smaller. I actually am really surprised this game has not already implemented mounts, I think it’s a missed opportunity.

I like this post. And I agree: right now I just WP everywhere, it’s very convenient and a huge moneysink. Though they could make mounts pricey enough to make up for it. Instead of running like 100 metres of whatever it is, I’ll just teleport to the next WP (eventhough the loadingscreen takes long to load than the actual run sometimes). The argument that mounts would take away from the scenery experience is in my opinion a bit rubbish, because, at least in my case, it would incentivise me to run more as opposed to WP everywhere.

You only need to kill Chugar to get the achievement as of now. I used a Static Discharge build with some knockbacks. Get some swiftness in there to be able to outrun Chugar and knock him back whenever he gets too close to the food.

Static Discharge builds work very well, though in the end you probably still will want to pick up the Toolkit because it’s awesome in PvP. Get Static Discharge, get gadgets (and Rifle Turret) in your utilities and have fun. Very basic, but decent burst.

I still want mounts yes purely cosmetic for me. WP system is a really nice system, but I don’t see why mounts would ‘ruin the game’. Could be also nice things to sell in the gem store etc.

Just curious.. but how many are doing this solo without a gimmick?

My definition of a gimmick in this case is (example) standing out of range of most of the mobs and focusing on intercepting the Plunderer pirates from a relatively safe location (like the treasure drop off points).

You know, instead of standing with the ally NPCs near the treasure piles, keeping them alive (which pretty much requires you to kill every mob), etc. The way I imagine the designers probably envisioned everyone beating this.

I got the answer: no one. Everyone is ‘exploiting’ their way through this. The infuriating part is ANet’s failure to acknowledge this. Instead they dodge comments/questions surrounding this. Just look at the post they made in another topic.. dear god no.

People are saying to run away so that the 20 mobs disengage from you but they don’t return to their spot they follow me around to the other side. Trying to get out of combat to get my health to restore means that the plunderers get the loot. All the “tricks” don’t work. I want to see a post-patch video, not declarations of “yeah I’ve done it on every class no big deal”.

Also reiterating that even if it’s possible, it’s only because it’s being exploited a different way, by disengaging and praying that the enemies reset their positions. There is no way to actually FIGHT the enemies and kill plunderers. All you are doing is avoiding them. If you enter the middle “kill zone” you die instantly. Very poorly designed, not fun, and unfair. Every person’s achievement should have been reset when it was patched. If it is truly possible then people who have beat it using “skill” should have no problems doing it again.

This indeed. Just tried it multiple times on my engineer, berserker FT build, nope. I fail around the 2min mark because I have to get out there to kill plunderers otherwise the event fails>pull mobs>wont return. This is beyond ridiculous and proves the point that was proven long ago, but now from personal experience, that this is a ridiculous encounter. The only way is by exploiting and using a class/build with high burst damage. I can’t even play the build I like.

What a surprise… In order to complete this crappy content we all have to roll serker. While I already am (Engi), not everyone in my guild is, and neither am I going to force them, because we are supposed to play through content the way we want. However right now because of the scaling it’s impossible for us.

I don’t care if anybody can or can’t complete it, and neither should anybody else. The event has wonky scaling and is unbeatable in the way it was designed to be done.

This is supposed to a horde style event, where you kill wave after wave. This is evidenced by the fact that Bronze/Silver/Gold depend on the total amount killed, not merely stopping plunderers. If the event was really about plunderers, then the reward level would be how much treasure you had left when time ran out instead.

This. My guild and I do well in every dungeon and fractal. Tho not everyone is geared/specced for the optimal DPS and such we have no problems overall. In here however we can barely take down 2 veterans (if even) before the next two spawn etc. Which is part of it: killing=higher medal. The health is simply too high.

Most of the content has been planned yes, but some of it depends on this outcome: like the fractal. It depends where they go with the LS, if they keep the spotlight on the council for a little longer after the elections it probably would, because both characters are quite different.

Matthew. While I understand where you are coming from I do not agree. Me and my guild play a lot of content together, we have no problems with any of the dungeons or fractals. Some of us do not play in the most optimal setup perhaps, but to each their own. We have tried several times doing the T4 and it wasn’t necessarely hard, but more that the mobs had WAY too much health. We were in the middle of the fray, not just killing the Plunderers, also trying to kill the veterans but it is kitten near impossible for us to burn two of them down before the next couple spawn. I seriously suggest you look into it again, because the scaling in terms of health is beyond ridiculous in my opinon.

Same here, no animation and sometimes even said it wasn’t usable, eventhough pressing E, or whatever it is we press in this game, worked. We got it done, but it was stressful as I had no clue if I was doing a proper job!

So when are we getting a nerf for this? It’s mostly the amount of health the veteran mobs have that is completely outrageous. My team has no problems in dungeons, fractals etc. but here we can’t even take down 1 veteran before 2 more spawn. And no. Don’t you dare tell me that it’s working as intended, because it’s ridiculous.

That people solo it if it was a challenge, kudos. But people are at the moment just exploiting it, finding loopholes to get the achievement. I don’t blame them though, but something needs to be done.

Mounts, yes! Purely cosmetic is good enough for me. I WANT TO RIDE A DOLYAK!
