Annoyance Du Jour

in Necromancer

Posted by: DirtyDeeds.6075

DirtyDeeds.6075

There are many annoyances that the Necro holds for me but the one that is really bugging me lately, has to do with minions when entering or leaving water.

I feel sorry for Necros when having to deal with water and pets minions. They are especially vulnerable when dealing with shallow water.

While minions I would guess are not considered pets, we do not get the same benefit of pet classes, who can just jump in water and his water pet selection is there to help him. Our land minions just disappear and we have to then summon any minions that we might have slotted.

God help you if you are in shallow water and hit the surface because all minions disappear and all cool downs on recasting are in effect if you submerge again.

The dreaded swim to the surface when down is also a double whammy to Necros when you still have pets out. Soon as you hit the surface they disappear so we have to make a decision if going to the surface is really the proper thing to do. No other class is handcuffed this way.

I don’t slot any minions for underwater battle anymore and am seriously working to eliminate them for land battles too because if you had some land minions up when you entered the water they disappear and when you go back to land you have to re-summon them all over again.

I wish there was a better method of dealing with this and I can see that minions are probably viewed as spells rather than pets, but this setup is not the best of designs for Necros and Minions when water is involved.

How to read rune stats?

in Players Helping Players

DirtyDeeds.6075

A couple question about Rune statistics:

I have an Acolyte Band armor piece – Defense 14; +7 Power; +5 Precision. I added a rune that reads like this:

Minor Rune of Scavenging (4/2)
(1) +11 Condition Damage
(2) 3% Magic Find

Questions:

1) What does the (4/2) mean? It’s in Red on this particular piece of armor.
2) If the Rune added Precision, would it stack with the Precision already on the armor?

The 4/2 means you have 4 armor pieces with that rune on them. You only need two to get both benefits.

If you only had one piece you would only get the benefit of the condition dmg and no magic find.

Yes if the rune had precision on it it would stack with the armors precision, just like adding gems to armor would add stats to it.

On Sorrows Furnace we have a few South American guilds that only speak Spanish who join us in WvWvW. Most do not speak any English or if they do they don’t say much. I kind of like to see them when I run into them ingame as it shows me that this game has appeal to more than just one country or area of the world.

You can’t complain about other server who cover thier game 24 hours a day. They have gone the extra distance to ensure they are not weak at certain times of the day .

That is not an unfair advantage to your server it is just an advantage you guys haven’t solved yet. Maybe that is something your server should do too. Recruit for the weak hours of your day when you can’t field a full crew.

The rewards are pointless, while fun, why bother?

DirtyDeeds.6075

There are lots of people who can’t handle a level playing field and need some armor or weapons advantage to be competitive. There are others who will never progress far in skill and need the extra bonus that “better than your gear” brings to a fight.

As others in this thread are saying, there are also plenty of games to chose from that offer that.

Why I do not play in lower level zones

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DirtyDeeds.6075

DirtyDeeds.6075

Have been casual exploring and leveling, done a few dungeons, and am now 61. But, except to specifically help a guildie, or to complete a zone, I do NOT play in lower level zones. Ever. Here is why I do not :

  • Travel costs in lower level zones are the same as for my current level.
  • Repair costs on my gear are the same as for my current level.
  • Loot rewards are NEVER the same as for my current level zones. Loot can range from as little as 25% of normal, to best case 50% of current level norm. Gear rewards are laughable.

Even when I am doing a lower level zone to finish it off and/or pick up Skill Challenges, I NEVER stop to participate in any Dynamic Events. The risk/reward ratio is so skewed that only a crazy person would take a chance on being downed for almost no reward.

So if it is ArenaNet’s intention that higher level players go back and participate in lower level zones on a regular basis, the current design just does not make that a viable option.

Since a player’s stats and gear are all reduced in level back down to the lower level zone’s target level, all the associated costs (Waypoint, Repair, etc) should also be reduced. And the rewards (especially coin/karma) should all be increased to level appropriate ranges.

Otherwise, the low level zones will continue to die; and the advanced Dynamic Event content will never be seen by the vast majority of the playerbase.

When I take my lvl 80 into a starting zone I often get great lvl 76+ rewards. I don’t die nearly as much because at lower levels I have some nice traits & epic traits to work with.

I don’t find the cost of dying that tough to handle unless you are incompetent and die a lot of times in a row,

Dont like any profession..

Try being a grown up and not spending your time doing something you don’t care for.

Being grown up usually means doing a lot of things you don’t care for. Like cleaning up after the kids, working to put food on the table and a roof over your families head.

Certainly all grownups would rather play MMO’s all day, but the realities of life don’t lend well to that lifestyle for most people.

As for the OP:
I have one of each class. Some days they feel foreign to me and I just can’t get into them and other days they seem to flow and everything just clicks into place.

I try to rotate through them so they all progress but some are a tad easier to work with at certain levels. Others just seem weak and difficult to play at times. I try to keep the weapons and armor up on those to make it a tad easier.

What makes a good commander?

in WvW

DirtyDeeds.6075

Not “anyone” can just spend a hundred gold and become a commander because not everyone has 100 gold.

Maybe you have run into some caps lock commanders but on my realm they are rather quiet and still take a beating in chat.

Few commanders will be able to satisfy everyone because just about everyone has a different view on what should be done for the situation.

I feel sorry for most commanders as they have no obligation to lead anyone except maybe the guild that fronted the money to them.

There is a theory floating around that commanders are being sent to other realms to gather up the peons/zerg and run them to distant and useless destinations and away from where the other realm wants to attack.

OP I understand what you are attempting to do with this post but even if a commander knows when to put down siege and where, it isn’t the commanders responsibility to make sure you or any one else does it. It won’t stop people from using up supplies for their own siege or re-inforcing that damaged wall when the Keep needs upgrades.

While a good Commander may have a decent idea what each class is capable of, he won’t likely have that option to pick and choose who follows him around.

The Commander has the ability to form groups larger than 5.
The Commander has the icon which is displayed on the map.

These two strengths should be utilized to max the impact they have on the rest of the map.

To OP:
1. If you think any item is priced below cost or too low, then buy it up and reprice higher.
2. If you feel any item is priced way too high, then make one at a much lower cost and price just below the overpriced one.
3. Don’t craft items that people are undercutting and selling below cost to make.

If you are not in a position to do either of the above(1&2) and still ignore #3 then do not complain about others and their pricing.

It is called “free market” and if someone wants to give away all his 15 slot bags at a huge loss because he replaced them all with 18 slots it is his/her prerogative to do so.

If you truly want to keep the prices higher than what you see as being priced as too low, there is a simple solution to ensuring that happens.

Buy up all the “insert Items X” that you feel is priced lower than your perceived value, and resell at higher values.

If you can’t afford to buy up all the lower priced item then your perceived value, is lower than the true present market value.

To me it is having reached lvl 80 and assembling the best gear possible for my character. Considering I have only reached 35% world exploration on my Lvl 80 character, I will also be exploring the remainder(65%) the world and doing hearts, completing vistas and areas along with finishing all my slot skills not just the ones I want to use. Mix in a bunch of WvWvW and I have loads of end game to keep me busy for a long time yet.

I don’t see how end game has to mean raiding. Isn’t that just you bringing other games end game expectations to this game?

This game really doesn’t have raids in the pure definition of it. maybe WvWvW has a bit of raiding in a contorted form.

I don’t mind the see-saw battles we had last week on Sorrows Furnace and the end of the week showed a 3k difference between the night capping and the Day capping.

I do agree 100% with the comments on the exploiters. It has to stop. Sooner the better. My server resisted it to start with, but I now see talk about “If they are going to do it then we should do it too”.

Those of you who are looking at it with blind eyes and saying it is only a few people on your server and don’t blame the whole server for those who do this, have to help stop it too. Not just on other servers but your own too.

Stop acting like a child and blaming the whole server. I was under the impression that we were all having akittengood battle these last few days. I was even considering creating a thread to thank Sorrows Furnace and Darkhaven for putting up such an awesome fight. Nobody likes hackers man, not even the servers that own thekittenkittens.

If someone was cheating on our server it would be my responsibility to report them or get them to stop. I don’t want a win via cheating.

70% of the vistas I have found won’t kill you if you fall while trying to get to them. Unless you are doing nothing but vistas then you should have enough money set aside to cover any repairs. I only do the vistas as I work the area and hearts in any area. I don’t go out of my way to get a vista if I am not already there and doing other stuff.

I don’t sell all the stuff I get either and I decomp most white/blue gear for crafting mats and still have enough cash for repairs.

If you get a rez before you die then you do not incur much if any repair costs. If you die then your armor, trinkets takes a hit. Although mostly your armor shows the damage first.

Why would you fight naked? the cost of repairs is not even close to being too high that most can’t afford repairs. Even repairing through a dungeon group that is struggling with wiping is not a huge burden.

……..

Okay now on to the bad:

The “roleless”, “jack of all trades” play style that you have come up with is… just boring. Sure there will be some people who say, “some professions can do things better than other professions” or “then you’re doing it wrong”, but in the end, there are no dedicated roles which just makes the gameplay boring, and not promote much teamwork.

This whole game is just everyone attack attack attack attack attack attack (throw in a couple dodges and heals/purges). This pretty much applies to anything where there is organized group play (WvW, sPvP, Dungeons). ……

I just wanted to address this portion of your post. To start with your opinion is your opinion. You are welcome to it. However you got it wrong.

The trinity which you so covet is the boring playstyle.
- What is exciting about a healer watching a bunch of health bars and playing whack a mole sending a heal when someone takes damage?
- What is so exciting about tanking when all you need do is have a competent healer and gear with enough mitigation?
- What is so challenging about DPS when you have a decent enough tank and healer that you rarely grab agro so are free to DPS with little danger?

As for my you got it wrong comment. When you say “This whole game is just everyone attack attack attack attack attack attack (throw in a couple dodges and heals/purges).” you got it wrong. If all you see is people who are doing nothing but attack attack, then you are seeing more people who haven’t got it right either.

ie: Like when I rez someone and just before I finish I pop down a healing circle for them to regen up in. They run out to continue fighting oblivious to the fact they should heal up first. They haven’t figured it out yet either.

Situation untenable.

ATI Black Screen Error Fixed

Posted by: DirtyDeeds.6075

DirtyDeeds.6075

The last 2 weeks I have had this black screen happening to me about 1-2 times per hour while playing. I checked the usual things like fan and temp, updated my drivers and took the advice up top and downloaded the game profiles. Nothing seemed to help.

I should say most times the game/screen would freeze up then go black and most times fix and recover over a 10-20 second interval. If I Alt-Tab’d I would see either the game has experienced an unrecoverable graphics issue or the game has recovered from a graphics issue message.

Yesterday I got fed up and used the “Driver Fusion” program to completely remove all traces of the video drivers. This process took a good 20 mins to find and remove everything. I then downloaded and installed the latest non-beta drivers (ver 12.8 I think) and I noticed the profiles mentioned performance fixes for Guild Wars.

Crossing fingers here but I played all day and no errors, no freezes and no black screen.

If you are experiencing something similar it might be some old drivers hanging around that are the problem. I know I was just updating my drivers by overwriting/installing overtop of the old ones. I had no problems until this past couple weeks.

Sub note: The Catalyst Control Center did not install properly from the latest drivers package and would not start up, so I downloaded and installed a previous standalone version.

Hope this helps some of you as I know it can be frustrating when this stuff happens especially when you have a decent rig.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DirtyDeeds.6075

I really don’t take much stock into what some reviewer has to say. If I need someone else to decide for me if a game is good or will be fun for me, there is something wrong with my decision process to begin with. I certainly don’t make buying decisions based on one persons critique.

What does bug me is the complainers here and in reviews, who say there is no end game here, when in fact there is. End game here is almost comparable to WoW when it was first released(maybe better when you consider PvP / WvWvW). There is no reason to expect as many dungeons &/or raids in this game to be equal to a matured game like WoW with multiple expansions & additions with lots of content. That game started out with only a couple of raids and only a few instanced dungeons.

As for reviewers, those I have seen who are doing more bashing, appear to me to be trying to make a name for themselves especially a few on utube.

Each to his/her own, but in the end I’ll decide what I enjoy and think is fun thanks. I don’t need anyone else to tell me what I enjoy from MMO’s.

Why would any new character(other than a gold spammer) need to send hundreds and thousands of ingame mails? The answer is they don’t.

Stop the ingame mail gold spammers short. Free up system resources.

Restrict the number of ingame mails from low level characters to just a few per hour and/or add a small fee to the sending of mails. This will stop them because there is limited funds to new characters and with restrictions to only send a few mails out or per hour.

Suddenly instead of thousands of annoying ingame mails sent out, you get only a few if any at all. It also gives the powers a bunch of time to handle the few complains/reports they do get.

A good defense wins battles.

Doing the above would allow you to spend more of your valuable resources on the other gold seller problems in the chats.

I don’t expect the OP will be around to answer this but if you are I have a question for you.

You say that you pay $15 a month to WoW for consistent updates. If that is so why do you pay extra for expansions? I guess some updates aren’t so free.
Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm and your coming Mists of Panda exp all cost you extra.

You can buy a whole game with updates almost nightly and play GW2 for $60. That is exactly 4 months of your $15/mo. Are your updates coming out quicker than every 4 months ?

So what exactly does the $15/mo you pay them give you?
-They charge you already for the game.
-They charge you for each expansion.

Only thing they don’t charge you for is the bug fixes which seemed to take forever to fix when I played that game. Is that what they charge you $15/mo for?

I see GW2 rolling out updates and new builds here just about every night or two.

MMO’s can’t work that way. You can’t have other classes skills too, you have some of your own.

Every class has a couple of spells/skills that are better than most and usually the best ones are on long cooldowns.

Your Ele isn’t nearly as weak as you make it out to be. Your meteor Storm is very powerful for example and you have essentially 4 weapons swaps(Air, Fire, Water, Earth) compared to most other classes who only have one or two.

The mobs are lvl 17 tonight and everyone( about 30 of us) have all died multiple times. When you first enter and your armor is good you can take 2 hits. Die a couple times and you can no longer take two hits and can look forward to a hefty repair bill.

Those under lvl 14 can take one hit. There is no room/ time for people to rez the fallen which leaves a strategy of race in and suicide or die myltiple deaths just trying to enter the room.

I received gold spam in my mail on my characters today. There is no right click to put them on ignore and no right click to report them like in chat.

I had to manually put them on ignore and manually report them through the bug command.

I would like to suggest the following:

1. Integrate the right click “report them” for mail received
2. Integrate auto add to ignore when you right click report function to mail and chat.
3. Put a small fee on every ingame mail sent.
4. Limit the number of mails any low level player can send to 5 / min or something suitable

This would let the players deal with the gold spammers and stop them from spamming when they have to pay a fee to send a mail.
