I think the game was pushed, at least it feels like it was. The game has fantastic potential and that’s why we’re on the forums in the first place, but so much of it in it’s current state seems lacking
I think another reason why people globb together is because once they go into down state they want a 100% reassurance that someone will see them, increasing their chances to just be revived.
Yea, all the epic fights don’t seem very epic when you actually play them because they have a small range of mechanics and the scripting is very predictable
He’s attempting to accomplish the PvE mindset while in a PvP orientated place. I agree though, it shouldn’t be there for completion just solely for PvP control
Shadowstep is a little lacking unless you put traits into it
I don’t understand why you’d want to do a puzzle game anyway. It’s just a pointless, sometimes frustrating jumping puzzle, which leads to barely any reward or satisfaction, and some virtual number to add to your pointless achievements number.
Forgive me if i’m wrong and there’s some fantastic reason I should be doing these frustrating puzzles! If so, enlighten me! Thanks.
It’s the same thing for some people who beat a game with achievements or trophies, they go back through and try to farm all the achievements and to them it’s “content”, but really it’s just a cheap way to extend the longevity of the game.
I somewhat feel like this game has done that. Thrown trophies and achievements all around to extend or elude people into thinking there is more to do.
You get rewarded. A melee hero can not do this though since you have to circle kite with range
If you consider end-game everything you listed in your OP than yes this has end game. But no progression. The only thing left to do is to unlock achievements, like in a console game, after you beat it. People don’t like that once you get to 80 there is no reward for getting there, getting 80 just makes WvWvW more fair now since you have all your traits, skill points and gear taken care of
Completing the map, farm dungeons (30~ times for one piece) for gear that isn’t as good as your crafted. These are not solutions to progression at 80. These are achievements you can get when you beat the game. Just like on any console game, the only thing to do is to go back and try to get trophies or achievements to have something that has absolutely no benefit other than aesthetic and bragging rights…I guess if you’re the person that likes to get all the trophies than this game has tons of progression at 80
I don’t get why people just don’t admit that there literally is no progression after 80, you just do WvWvW, farm explorable mode on dungeons or try to get the legendary (which takes 1.5 million karma, correct?)
If you really enjoy WvWvW than you’ll enjoy level 80
What is with the OP trying to preach to A Net, like they need a random person to cheer lead for them? Appreciate the sentiment though
It’s a hobbiction. I just invented that word because for some people it is more than a hobby it’s like a way of life, but I don’t think gaming can ever become an addiction. For example I’m 24-years old now and have been gaming since 3. It is a part of my life, something I do every day and something I wouldn’t want to live without because I love it. I find that I game less nowadays than I did 8 years ago. Not because I have less time to game but because I realized that spending 16 hours a day playing World of Warcraft would eventually destroy what “life” I have, so it’s more of a restraint.
However, even when I was 19-years old and spending 16 hours a day playing WoW I was never addicted, I just preferred to play games than do other stuff. Some people sit reading all day. Are they addicted to books? Nope. If I had been forced to quit gaming altogether when I was at the peak of spending almost the entire day playing, what side effects would there have been? None. I’d miss it, sure, but I’d watch TV, read, go out, do stuff around the house, etc. I’d pass time in other ways.
Compare that to when I was forced to stop taking prescription painkillers that I got for a back injury, where, thanks to withdrawal, I spent a week curled up in a foetal position, drooling, shaking, shivering, in agony and regularly kitten my pants, then you get a good perspective of what addiction really is and the consequences of withdrawing from it.
My friend, not sure if anyone has told you this, but playing a game for 16 hours IS an addiction.
A person that is addicted to something will always deny that it’s not an addiction. It hurts to know that sometimes you have an issue and it needs to be fixed.
Also if you still don’t think video gaming cannot become an addiction, please do some research, don’t use your own opinion as evidence that gaming cannot become an addiction.
I disagree. A measurement of time does not determine addiction. Addiction – When a controllable experience interferes with your life’s priorities. EX: Dropping out of school to play video games, missing class, homework. Ignoring spouse/girlfriend/boyfriend or family.
What if he just had nothing else to do?
Video games are very addicting, but also they’re more used for an escape mechanism. “When I’m playing I don’t think about the world, I don’t think about my responsibilities; that I have to get a job or do my studies”. “I don’t have to think about an unforeseeable future that I’m not in complete control of, but in here I’m safe”…ect.
Manage your own time, if you’re ignoring whatever beneficial things you have in your life to play a video game than you’re most likely addicted.
There is a difference between a no-lifer and an addict.
I don’t find restricting the thief with his stealth abilities all that beneficial to his play style. If you’re playing a stealthier thief this mechanic severely limits your potential, leaving a wide gap for your opponents to take advantage of. This doesn’t exactly solve a stealth spamming build but rather is punishing to those who use it, mainly for backstabs. A reasonable anti-spam would be a 1-2 second reveal option
No, definitely not the best pusher. There is so much AoE that you will surely be snared. Your stealth is so limited that once you pop out of it and plus with the revealed debuff you can’t stealth for another 3 seconds, you’ll just be sitting there stunned and then dead.
I agree with stealth feeling underwhelming. If the player is decently aware of the thief class you’ll more than likely never land a backstab with D/D, it’s just not reliable in PvP. Thieves are better in SPvP because of the smaller player size, in WvWvW they’re nearly useless.
Range is always a better option in War. Why do you think we invented guns?
This is a fantastic response to a video game balancing question. Forcing everyone to play range because it is the better option in war. The range classes don’t benefit at all from this obviously. /sarcasm
Being a melee in WvWvW is near suicidal. Going up close just means you’re the first to get focused which means that the only possible way to have a chance to survive would be to outnumber and zerg them
The stealth time is abysmal. Try stealth in WvWvW for about 3-5 seconds only to be caught in some AoE snare.. Stealth is not a good mechanic to use for trying to get away either because of it’s short life. Thief all together in WvWvW just seem lack luster compared to the other classes
Agree, the variation is lacking greatly.
Why is there no duel option…SPVP geting boring immediately unless you have a formed group.
I agree. Knowing that you can easily get revived makes you more comfortable with dying and it’s punishment hardly severe as it should be.
Of course, anytime you mention progression people get fanatic about defending the games integrity of the no gear grind. What they don’t understand is that there are multiple ways to expand the longevity of a character at 80 and make it feel like you’re progressing.
Current state of game – Nothing to do at 80, nothing to progress in. Only option is to do WvWvW with no reward. Sure the PvP is fun and I do it without reward but how long is that going to last? When there is no incentive and or no benefit to doing something, than why do it? Simple answer: eventually you wont.
Everyone who has experienced dungeons feels the same way. Putting loot out of the question, the mechanics at hand are no where to be seen. It’s like they just took monsters from their database, slapped them in and than changed the value of their health to be whatever ridiculous number they could come up with.
I hope dungeons get a overhaul because that is whats needed.
Because a lot of people play Call of Duty and like the down state. Casual mechanics transfer over when the casual player is the demographic
I think I’ve had the same armor models for about 40 levels. I don’t believe there are many assets when it comes to model variation in this game
I agree. I feel like a lot of promises were made that weren’t kept, and I think I speak for a lot of the players who have hit max level.
Anytime you mention gear the fan boys have to bandwagon and talk about how you should play another game that has the endless gear grind
Not if you’re wanting items. Dungeons are good if you like the reward of accomplishment, but if you want a material reward, for example - items or gold, than you’ll be sorely dissapointed.
It reminds me of Diablo 3 where they defined challenging as just having massive %’s of damage and health increase. Just complete laziness in the develop stage. You can get away with that with people who have never played a PC game in their life
Another problem with the dungeons, who would of thought?
Sometimes, it’s a %
This is all actually very true. Even though I like my games hard it annoys me to no end when other players power level straight through a game put in about 10-20 times the hours to do everything in a month after release burning themselves out and then complain they have nothing to do or that a game is boring. It’s like watching a guy scarf down a double cheeseburger in less than 5 sec and then complain he’s still hungry.
I disagree with this. The people who reach 80 first are the ones who notice the problems first. If everyone reached 80, 1.5 months into the game than everyone would be complaining at once.
This game is not dungeon focused, what so ever, there is no real reward for doing them and that is part of the game design. The game is focused around WvWvW..So if you like PvE than you probably shouldn’t be playing this game because the only way for you to do PvE after 80 is to make a new character and replay the same content you did on your 80.
According to A Net, having something challenging is just making it’s health and damage %’s larger. What challenging means to the player is having to devise some sort of strategy in order to counter whatever the AI is doing.
The #1 strategy for dungeons – zerg.
This topic is about the endgame. Not the leveling process. Yes the leveling process was done better than most MMOs, but a better leveling process does not make for a better MMO.
It is an issue of simple taste. If you are a more casual gamer. The simple quest completions may make the game for you, but the game was hyped up to have depth. The dynamic events are hardly dynamic at all.
This isn’t runescape or maplestory. There was obviously an expectation of an endgame after the leveling. Denying that is just ignorant.
I guess the end game is literally just WvWvW, so if you get all your satisfaction from zerging opponents than great!
Put a spam filter in. A report option for gold spammer that is of higher priority so they get dealt with quicker. There are many things they can do
I agree with OP, minus the crafting (but I haven’t gotten to 400 yet) I think the crafting is very well done.
At 80 there is nothing to do, and the people who are defending the “end-game” clearly haven’t even gotten to 80 yet. The people who get 80 are the ones finding the problems while the casual player who isn’t 80 yet hasn’t even come across them.
So far this is what you do at 80 – WvWvW. And how long till that becomes boring? For a lot, it already has because there is no balance. You can’t expect to have people do PvE for majority of the game than just shift them to PvP non-stop and for literally no reward once you get all your exotic.
End game – does not feel like you’re accomplishing anything, because you’re not; so why even play anymore? The people who are complaining want to keep playing, they’re complaining about how the game is forcing them to not want to play
Yes, every zone is instanced off with mountains separating it because the other zones are impossible to walk to. It does take away from the visceralness
In my opinion this wave of complaints about “end game” are coming mostly from the hard-core “gotta-max-level-asap” crowd who rushed through a game that wasn’t designed to be rushed through.
It’s like opening the box to Monopoly, picking the race car, stacking all the money and properties in front of you and placing hotels all over the place and then complaining that the game is completely lacking in substance.
End game is just PvP, that’s all it is. It’s funny because the “hard-core” gamers you’re making fun of are the ones revealing the actual problems with the game early before the casuals get to it. Most people at 80 are losing interest and you’re in denial if you believe otherwise

So one more time for good measure, for everyone complaining about how game doesn’t have x feature or doesn’t play y way: Grats on being an uninformed buyer. You have nobody to blame but yourself for thinking this would be another WoW clone.
It doesn’t have to be a WoW clone for there to be progression at 80. That’s the problem, there is literally no more character progression, nothing for you do to anymore once you hit 80. What are we expected to just keep re-rolling new toons, exploring the same content because we already did all of it on our level 80? And also buy more character slots just so we can play and get every class to 80… Haha, what a joke.
The game is lacking, severely, stop trying to defend whatever delusion you have of it’s current state.
Sorry but everything you say is true
Pray tell, how you expect to dodge instantaneous skills across a server with latency with “reaction”?
If something is instantaneous than you’re not dodging it anyways..
I mean when a projectile is launched towards you, by the time you see it in mid flight it’s impossible to evade it with DB because of the delay. Why is there a delay anyways, just so it’s not another dodge roll?
The trick is to DB before the attack hits. You’re right that as a “wait for it. . . wait for it. . . dodge!” move it blows. Do not use it like that. There is a dodge for that. Rather, you stay constantly in motion, Dodge, Dodge (to build Might stacks and drop caltrops), DB, DB, DB, 1, 1, 1, DB, Dodge, DB, etc. You aren’t dodging any specific attack, but you spend so much time in “evade” mode and/or behind the target that most attacks won’t hit you anyways.
This post makes the most sense when explaining the dodge mechanic of DB and it’s practical usage
Yep I don’t think that’s gonna change either
Do we really have to make 8 threads about this?
This is the only thread I see. I created it literally when the server message went up saying a new build was on the way.
Thief
Heartseeker: Reduced damage of the 100%-50% threshold by 20%. Damage thresholds changed. Old: 100%-66%, 66%-33%, 33%-0%. New: 100%-50%, 50%-25%, 25%-0%.
At least they didn’t nerf the damage. This is reasonable but still unnecessary. This is coming from a bias Thief though
I 100% agree, I really hope they do something. Most people who have done dungeons will probably never do them again. I feel dungeons were the least developed and least thought out part of this game and that is really sad.
Dungeons were ignored and was possibly some of the least developed part of the game..so it seems
Yea, I’m running 32-Bit W7.

It’s the OS and known limitation. Was posted way back in beta that high res won’t work in 32bit OS.
That’s too bad. Thanks for the response

I currently am not able to select this option, it is grayed out. I updated my video card’s drivers. I had all settings on maximum except shadows which I have off. I talked to other people and they said they have it checked. What is the problem and what is the solution?
