“Most people don’t like being irritated by their forms of entertainment.”

Most people need to admit that this is not the hobby for them. Back in GW1 they had Dishonor which punished casual idiots that would leave a PvP match and ruin the game for everyone else. This is not a football game on television, it’s a world with human interaction, you’re going to get irritated from time to time. Commit or go away.

This game is geared for the casual idiots, because they’re the majority sadly and easily impressionable

OMG but you do it for the fun!

The typical response to a thread like this is to bring up WoW and how this game is not WoW 2..No one ever said anything about WoW, other than comparisons..

There could be raids and the bosses could be scaled depending on hidden values for the gear the party has. The gear level system is actually good, each piece has a hidden value..Add up all of the parties values and the monsters in the dungeon get scaled accordingly. That took me longer to type it than to think it.. Seriously with all these “This isn’t WoW2, go back to WoW” posts it just proves how not open-minded you are about changing the obvious problems with this game

I would give my endgame feedback but...

No what he is saying is that the game prioritizes the monetary system over the player’s entertainment. They’re going to push their gem system hard, I know that, and that’s fine – it’s an understandable decision from a business but what can go horribly wrong is when the equation is unbalanced, and all priority goes towards the gems.

The Sadness I feel knows no bounds.

Almost every single one of those examples is just trophy hunting… This is exactly what you do on a console game that you’ve beat, just running around getting all the trivial trophies that hold no real reward in game..

@ Brewmaster.

Makes me think you’ve never ran any of the dungeons more than once. Yea, they may be fun the first time, or even second or third; but what about the 5th? If you’re running any more than that I’m sure it’s not for fun anymore but for the skins.

What made people do dungeons in other games, what kept that content alive for a long time? It was that there is something there that people want, and they may get it or they may not. Right now there is nothing people want in dungeons, the daunting task of farming for the pve gear isn’t worth doing the same dungeon 100 times.

It is far too difficult to find a group for instances.

80 is just better for PvP basically

I’m curious what the expectation is of players these days when stepping into a brand new MMO such as GW2. What their prior experience is with other new MMO’s and the learning curve and complexity of the boss encounters in those games were when they too were first released.

Lets assume you are assuming we are all talking about WoW (because I know that’s what your talking about).

Pay attention around 2:57 mark

This is the Baron Geddon fight. This is vanilla WoW.

There’s only one remotely tricky fight mechanic here. Someone is THE BOMB and if they are standing near people when the timer goes out, it blows them all up. Easy. But that is a fight mechanic you have to learn, control, and adapt to.

And it’s STILL better than what GW 2 has.
———

To recap my opinion:

1) Raids are not evil. People who think all raids are evil have a very narrow minded opinion and think that it belongs only to the top 1% of the most hardcore of gamers, and therefor has no place in a casual friendly game. You’re just wrong.

Raids are FUN. The only reason they were exclusive in the past? Gear progression. Now that gear progression doesn’t matter, why not include something proven to be FUN in Guild Wars 2?

2) Unfortunately, the PvE here certainly does not have that kind of depth, and perhaps more importantly, a huge percentage of the player base seems to hate even the idea of raiding based on past preconceptions carried over from other games.

I’m not an advocate for turning GW 2 into WoW 2. I’m an advocate trying to say that a progressive, smart game trying to break the mold is a good thing – but don’t knowingly leave behind strong feature concepts “just because” someone else used them before. Make them newer and better.

Real raiding without long term time commitments for gear progression? I’ll pay for that. Here’s hoping Anet does it with an expansion or content patch.

Yes I agree, the carrot on a stick technique is still in this game, I don’t know why some people believe it isn’t. It’s with your traits, all the trophies and the exotic gear.

Why is there skill queing?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DirtyHoudini.2917

DirtyHoudini.2917

Conversely, why are you spamming the key if you know it will be queued to go off straight after?

I actually try not too, but when you attempt to DB and the skill has a second delay, you don’t even know if the game took the command when it’s a clutch situation and you may have been dazed for a brief moment or some other interrupt.

But what if you’ve used an ability to have it queued and wanted to cancel it? You can’t, it forces your character to execute the animation, and it takes away control from the player.

Really it’s a function that shouldn’t be innate. It’s just a simple tweak that would go some ways. Besides, giving more options to the player and lessening restrictions is never a step backwards in an MMO.

This is such a frustrating mechanic that I don’t believe serves anyone beneficially, mostly the thieves. Spamming an ability in mid animation so you can get it off the moment it becomes available usually ends up with you casting it twice or three times. At least have it be more customizable for the player so they can pick and choose based upon their personal preferences.

DirtyHoudini.2917

Yes. Save all your initiative for your blinds and smokes, which are the most costly abilities you have as a thief. That will make sure your damage output is somewhat sufficient. Hands down range is the best, the reason is because of the zerg fests. Zerging you focus closest target, melee is the closest target and thus gets focused down

My idea of finishing map means I talked to majority of npcs and checked their dialogues not just ran from poi to vista to skill challege and as soon as i got 100% left and never came back.

This is trophy hunting. This is exactly what console games do once you beat them, give you more objectives that are trivial just so you can feel like you’re accomplishing things. This is a competitive game, it’s focus is PvP, that’s why they have tournaments and are wanting an e-sport to come out of it.

There is no character progression at 80, I don’t know if that will ever change. This game has heaps of potential, I just feel it was a bit pushed out too early.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

No, not even close because I think most will tire of it quicker than GW.
I liked to custom my skills the way I wanted them in GW1 now we are stuck with unwanted skills depending on what weapon you equip.

Yea, being able to customize would be amazing. I hate being restricted, it does nothing but smother the player out of all creativity they can come up with, which would make their character feel more like their character.

At least be able to re-arrange your skills would be nice
