Community voted ranks?

in Suggestions

Dommmmmmmmmm.6984

My suggestion is sort of like a voting system for every player in the game to help illuminate the great players and ‘bad’ players.

Imagine there are 3 columns lined up next to each other from left to right when you ‘inspect’ a player. The one on the left is labeled ‘Skill’, the middle column is labeled ‘Knowledge’, and the last column is labeled ‘Community’. These columns have points inside them based on other player feedback towards that particular player. The more points that player has the better he/she handles themself in those categories.

Now, imagine being able to directly add and/or subtract points to players ‘ranks’ based off your own experience with them. For example; was a player in your PuG playing extremely well? Did they teach you a couple of new tricks you’ve never known? Were they friendly and patient while dungeoning? Then go ahead and give them some points in all 3 categories!

Another example; did a player teach you an awesome tip for making money? Give him some points in Community and Knowledge!

Were you just following a Commander to glorious victory? Community points!

Did you get kicked from a FotM 48 at Jade Maw so some dirtbag could invite his guildie to take your spot? …I think you know what to do here.

Now, you might be thinking, “But won’t some butthead subtract points from me just because he hates me?”. From what I could think of, yes. This will inevitably happen. So my counter to this is that players can only vote towards the same character they just voted towards once per 2 weeks. Meaning, if you just voted towards a player you must wait 2 weeks before you can vote towards them again. This would help counter point trading/trolling/selling, but…

On that note, I think all players can vote once per day per ‘column’ on another player. So all together you get 3 votes a day, 1 vote for each category. All points are Account Bound and can be shown publicly. No privacy setting to hide your points.

I was also considering some other fun column sections for example ‘Beauty’, do you absolutely adore this players fashion sense? Drop them some friendly points.
But, I think that can lead to some judgmental behavior. I mean, you look at a player and you think “Wow, that dude looks like a total kitten! I wanna look just like him!” and then you go to check their points thinking they must have like a bajillion points and you see he has -57 points in Beauty, and then you think “Hm, I guess he doesn’t look that cool…Yeah he’s pretty ugly”. Another column I was thinking of was ‘Social’, for example; is this player talkative? Are they hilarious? Are they willing to join a voice chat if needed? Do they ever shut up?. I can see this column being very good and very bad.

I also thought we could get some actual ranks and titles when meeting a certain point threshold. Such as 1,000 points in Knowledge would get you the rank Certified Genius, and a title that says “Ask me anything”. Or reaching 1,000 points in Community would get you the rank Celebrity, with the title “Superstar”… or something along those lines.

I was just thinking I wished there was a way to ‘label’ players between bad sports and great players. This was as close as I got to being a hassle-free way to watch each others backs without voluntarily doing so. Sort of like a review of other players so future players can know what to expect, especially if you see a player with -500 points in all 3 columns. Well, if you actually read the whole thing, I guess you earned yourself some Community points. -throws confetti-

It’s not that hard to get a group of people to hold the ruins for at least your servers BL even if you’re outnumbered. And if you can’t get enough people to maintain your own BL Buff then sorry but you shouldn’t even be considering WvW competitively.

The issue for smaller servers is, their opponents outnumber them. Assuming their opponents are well organised they will always be able to send more people to take the buff. Anet never thinks these changes through, just like with the AC change they never thought through to the logical conclusion that it would actually force zergs to increase.

Like I said, I’ve yet to see a large number of enemies go through the ruins to cap them. Drop some strategic AC’s, but some people seem to have something against open-field siege, so don’t I guess? Also, I’m well aware what it’s like to be outnumbered in lower tiers. I’ve been in lower tiers since release up until recently when I came to T1. Small groups can always be effective. Just always be aware that you’re gonna be outnumbered and you’re probably gonna lose a good portion of battles. If everything you’ve tried fails for the buff then hell just form a havoc squad or get some coordination to flips some camps for tick. If you’ve played T1 you should know that a couple of sup AC’s and ballistas can completely stop a zerg from attacking and move on. It took some of the non-T1 servers weeks before we started seeing them siege up their towers and keeps after they flipped them. Also, I’m not dismissing the fact that Anet still has work to do with these matchups until they’re fully enjoyable but I’m not going to bash them and complain about something I don’t like without giving some sort of feedback against it. I’m just going to give them time and see how they go forward. They certainly seem to be making progress.

Tier 1 servers

I am tired of hearing how we’re all bad down here ‘cause we didn’t transfer to tier 1. You wanna know the truth of it? The only guilds I know that transferred to tier 1 are the ones who, instead of getting good, went to get carried.

I know you all feel boss up there but let’s be honest it’s easy to feel pro in a place where your singular failings have next to no impact.

Like you said for yourself. You didn’t transfer to T1 so I don’t expect you understand the difference between tiers anyway. But I’ve played lower tiers for a very long time. Since release up until about a couple months ago, and I can genuinely say that the WvW experience is so much richer in T1 compared to any tier below. Everything from roaming, 1v1’s, havoc squads, commanders, zergs, community, etc. It’s all better in T1. Keep in mind this is all personal experience and not “the truth” as you put it so humbly.

I know you feel boss down their in your lower tier, but hey, feel free to add me in-game and if our servers ever get matched up we can check and see just how singular failings really turn out.

Am I the only one who likes the buffs? I’ve recently had some amazing fights in those ruins. I’ve dunked on people 2v1 when they had the +150 buff. Is it bad to feel a little rewarded that I killed an enemy with a buff and then immediately capped the ruin and took it away from him? If someone beats you in a fight with the buff, chances are they would’ve wrecked you without it anyway.

It’s not that hard to get a group of people to hold the ruins for at least your servers BL even if you’re outnumbered. And if you can’t get enough people to maintain your own BL Buff then sorry but you shouldn’t even be considering WvW competitively. Go to PvP if you want a completely level playing field.

Anyway, I think you’re looking at this the wrong way. You’re looking at it like the servers that massacred you guys are now committing a mass genocide on your server. If they were going to win anyway then why not use the BL buff to your advantage and try to close the gap by getting dunks? I’ve yet to see an entire zerg roll through those ruins, so chances are you can close the gap with a small group effort and stomps. If you and 2 friends got 100 stomps each day you’d have 2.1k extra points by the end of the week. Increase the number of people getting stomps and you will see a marginal change in scores. If anything the BL buffs are helping lower tiered servers. It’s a shame you see it the other way. Consider me an optimist I guess.

Smoke Screen is now a circle with a hollow middle. No blind applying field in the middle of the ring, but the smoke combo field can still be applied in the middle, pretty much the same thing as Guardians Purging Flames skill, just replace the flames with a smoke/blind field. Opponents get blinded upon entering/leaving the ring. Duration and cooldown stay the same.

Blind Powder can now be used while already doing an action. Similar to how it was before. Example: While charging a channel skill using Blind Powder no longer interrupts the channel or action such as reviving a teammate.

Tripwire now also applies Weakness for 6 seconds. Cripple and Weakness now get applied once the target gets up from the knockdown.

Needle Trap is now “Bomb” trap that applies Burning(?), Chilled(?), Confusion(?), Torment(?) and Blind(?) on top of Poison and Immobilize for 4 seconds. Any 3+ combination of those conditions. Poison and Immobilize stay regardless.

Tripwire and Needle (Bomb) trap now have Shadow Pursuit as well.

All trap cooldowns stay the same. All traps now grant 50% endurance to self upon enemy activation. Something like this can be a trait. Along with being able to throw traps now. It needs a trait. Basically we need all Ranger trap traits.

It was stated in your post that pets will receive separate PvE/PvP healthpools. I certainly hope this applies to Ambush as well as Thieves Guild. I also still believe the Thieves from Thieves Guild should help the player revive teammates, similar to actual player teammates. Not similar to Spirit Elite, Illusion of Life, Necro Sig, or Warbanner. The Thieves actually get down and help you revive. Equal to 3 players reviving including yourself. Perhaps you can also add a secondary command skill after activation that allows you to command the time the Scorpion Wire Thief throws the wire, or when the P/P Thief uses the Blind Powder, or both simultaneously.

I don’t want to get that into traits that much but I thought of a Grandmaster/Master Trait called Eagles Eye, which makes all enemies dodges become nullified below 50% health. The dodge roll animation still plays but the dodge itself is nullified if your attack were to land. I believe Thief should always have the most important and highest number of dodges in the game, always. Things like this could help maintain that prowess. I think Thief should have much easier access to Weakness in general since Thief drastically needs the damage reduction on self as well as the endurance upper-hand.

One final opinion I have. If there is anything you take from my post, please let it be this. Either let us Thieves completely turn off Last Refuge or change it completely so we’re immune to blinds at 25% health. It can be renamed Dilated or something.

I actually didn’t want this post to be this long at all but there ya go I guess, got carried away.

Great, looks like Thief is gonna get shafted once again. What a surprise…
Thief is in arguably last spot in terms of viability in PvP/WvW.
What’s the point of “improving” Venoms?? So I can fill my utility bar with pointless skills that have less than miniscule impact in a battle?? No thanks! I’d rather keep the few utilities Thief has that are viable.

Here’s just some ideas I came up with real quick that could help make Thief better.
Personally I’d like to see Steal get a buff that makes it a stun break.
If you’re going to “improve” Venoms at least make it so when you activate them they last a certain duration instead of the measly 3 attacks that enemies can evade.

Btw Traps still suck. Why can’t we throw them like Rangers? Why don’t we have circle AoE traps? I really just don’t get it tbh. At least make them viable in tune with condition builds maybe?
I just don’t want to waste my utility slots on sub-par utilities that will leave me a sitting duck. That’s the opposite of what this class’ focus should be.

I think Signet of Agility should be a stun break, and if this current condi-meta sticks around, remove 2 conditions.

All venoms from here have a full 10 sec duration to continuously apply poisons per attack.

Ice Drake still applies 1s Chill for every attack within those 10 seconds.

Skale Venom: reduce condi durations to 2-3 seconds. Same as above

Spider Venom now applies Weakness and Poison. Condition durations are 2 sec Weakness per attack, initial 6 second poison on activation/first attack, 2 second poison per attack afterwards, but, the first attack after Spider Poison activation latches a spider (think Karka face grab) onto the enemy that continuously applies 3 second poison to the target every tick until the target dodge rolls. No more poison is applied after the spider is removed. Poison can still be applied during spider latch, but not after it is removed. Weakness can still be applied during and after spider latch for the full 10 sec duration.
An alternative buff could be the initial attack on activation surrounds the target in a web for (5) sec (much like the spiders in PvE) Can still apply Weakness and Poison.

Devourer Venom now applies 2 sec Immobilize every 5th attack starting with initial attack. Still maintains 10 second duration as stated above. Also now a stun break.

It’s kind of a “fake challenge”, I can see that. But just because it’s tedious doesn’t mean it isn’t challenging. People practice the same routines over and over for dance, or for sports. People do the same things to overcome challenges and to slowly get better at it. Enduring through obstacles is a challenge itself.

You’re right about having to use memory way too much though. I wish there was just a smidge of a warning, even if it was only on like 25% of the traps, just so you don’t die by something completely random every single time. Even if it was an incredibly small visual clue that could easily be overlooked without an unrelenting eye.

Just above Lions Arch at the very bottom right of Gendarran Fields in the snowy section. Takes 30 seconds from Lions Arch to that skill point. There’s a veteran Ettin guarding it though and a couple Ettin juniors. If you have a thief just walk in and pop shadow refuge.

Smuggler’s Waypoint would be the one in Lions Arch that you can use to get there.

Some ideas to reduce zerging

in WvW

Posted by: Dommmmmmmmmm.6984

Dommmmmmmmmm.6984

My ideas that could help reduce the benefits of zerging is to redesign the keeps to implement a PvP-type conquest system. Simply put, there are 3 rings in each keep that are in key positions inside the keep that must stay your servers color in order for your server to control the keep. You maintain control of the ring similar to PvP, except the more players in the AoE of the ring means the more influence you have to change the rings color for your server, meaning it would not stay contested like it does in PvP. This could reduce zerging by essentially forcing a split in order to either capture or defend a keep. It would basically be a tug o’ war match inside the keep to maintain the rings where holding 2 out of 3 rings can gradually take the keep for your server. There would also be no more Champion Boss inside of the keeps. Would servers still zerg and try to powerhouse the enemy? Most likely since this is how people in WvW have been playing for a while and it’s just human nature to form up. But, this is why a redesign would be needed to introduce more chokepoints, more flanking paths, more high walls, more positions for siege, all for the sake of actual strategy.

This idea is not exactly a zerg fix idea, but towers would remain generally the same as they are now with the Champion boss and one ring to capture. Except the Champion boss would have a better placement inside the ring to where it can actually knock players out of the ring instead of just knocking them into the wall surrounding the ring. The amount of KB’s and damage he does should be based on how many players are around him. The towers would still maintain their key placements around the map but they would be relatively easier to siege compared to keeps with maybe something like a 10% static HP reduction on all walls and gates.

Walls and gates for keeps on the otherhand can remain the same HP but if the enemy gets inside a keep and they figure they need to open up another entrance for their server the siege they place and player damage against gates inside an enemy keep does double damage going from the inside to outside. Or simply new siege could be introduced called something like “Sabotage Bomb” that does massive damage to walls and gates when you’re attacking walls and gates from inside an enemy keep. I believe this could help create mayhem inside keeps which would then cause players to scatter or become distracted as more enemies start pouring in, or this could help players pull clutch on-the-fly strategies to outplay their opponent.

Some more ideas that I had to negate the benefits of zergs is for example; if there is a server with 100 players and a server with 50 players on the map. The server with 50 players could maybe get a 50% stat boost when in range of the 100 player server to help maintain their power if the 2 servers end up clashing together. Once they are out of range of each other the servers get their stats reduced or boosted depending on how many enemy players are around them. There might have to be a hard cap, maybe just a 30% stat boost no matter how outnumbered you are, otherwise we would just see 1 guy fight against a 100 man server and put up a hell of a fight with his 1000% stat boost, which I think would be ridiculously entertaining to watch, but that’s besides the point. (btw I’m terrible with numbers) Another scaling idea could be to allow outnumbered servers to carry more supply based on the number of enemy players they’re fighting.

Sentries can be upgraded to provide some skills such as a line of sight that provides a ring that reveals an area (similar to something like Fog of War in RTS games) around the sentry to show the number of enemies (red dots on the map) within that sentry point for anybody from the server that bought the upgrade who is currently looking at the world map. Once the sentry dies the LoS upgrade is gone too. Another upgrade could be a “Horn Call” that would ping the map whenever the sentry starts getting attacked by the enemy servers, this would synergize well with the LoS upgrade.

That’s about all I got for suggestions and ideas. This was sort of a quick little spark I had since I’m simply bored of WvW at the moment.

One more thing, let us reset our WXP skills please.

TL;DR: There isn’t one

Just walk away from them. You have to realize you’re an unstoppable force and he’s an immovable object. (assuming equal skill levels).
