The tools did update. You just have to move them to inventory and visit an NPC to swap them out.
Perhaps you can roll a duplicate Asura in the profession you want, with a similar name, and use transmute to get the items onto him. That way you still have the one you’ve made, in case later on you like that profession after all, but can enjoy the new one.
If you mean the heroic ring or 2 week banker, those are only short term use. I wouldn’t worry about having assigned them because it’s not long before you’re done with them anyway.
I don’t think the home instance can do what most people are looking for in housing. Human, maybe, a section could be made customizable. But the Asura one is a whole lot of nothing and the Norn one is a dormitory, not a steading. Plus for now hunks of the PS make you travel through the home instance, so it runs up against the consistency issues that’s hamstringing other changes. (Me, I can wrap my brain around alternate status of personal and world story, but I’ve been RPing since the 1970’s and have practice at compartmentalizing character knowledge).
So housing will have to be in a new place, or in sections of city currently inaccessible, much as the Dead End got added to the DR city wall. I remain adamant that open world will not work, not nohow, not ever. I know ANet could surprise me, they’ve come up with many other creative hindsight-obvious solutions, but there simply isn’t room to cram in space for every player of millions. Or even of thousands if we localize it by server.
A separate map is possible. DaoC did that, though it became a subdivision that took effort to travel to and still had the warfare-level competition to get convenient locations with guild members nearby. LotRO did multiple subdivisions, spawning more as the old ones filled. Nice, but limited people per instance so if your guild was larger you’d have issues. Also it too required traveling to the subdivision entrance (less of an issue in a game with so many waypoints, we can just put one at the door in).
The movable doorway someone proposed long ago has some elegance to it. Slap it up anywhere in the world and it’s the way in to your custom place. Now the whole world is available to live in. (Doesn’t help if your alts have distinct lives, but as discussed above the odds of working it out to individual alts are low).
As to guild housing, I’m hopeful it will be quirky, with lots of details and good architecture in a choice of styles. Accessing it will likely be done the same way as individual housing. I wouldn’t want to tie personal housing to guild housing, interesting as that could be, because what happens to your home if you leave the guild?
I don’t expect to go dormant for six months; that long a break in any MMO for me generally means I’m never coming back. But if I did, especially in GW2 which is billed as a game you can pick up again as if you never took a break, I’d darn well better be able to return to my server.
What you suggest might work if it was a) free and b) no server said “full, you cannot be here.”
If you are on a North American timezone then I’m pretty sure Tarnished Coast is the official role playing server, but you should get confirmation on that.
Make that unofficial and you’re right. ANet never designated any server types, we RPers just latched onto TC for NA and Piken Square for EU.
I think that’s the proposal Chris meant, timmyf. At least, that’s the main thing I latched onto mentally as the promised Chris post I most want to see
I’d go for that, LadyRhonwyn. The sameness of the maps gets tedious and doesn’t feel like exploring at all.
Sadly I think you are right about one per account. But that doesn’t mean it has to be just themed rooms. Why not a home-instance sized plot to do up how one likes, with buildings and gardens all over?
I know I keep mentioning Horizons, I do so because it had a robust if clumsy system. You got hold of a plot of land. They came in various sizes, and when you went into architecture mode you saw a grid overlay. You could select various buildings and tiles and greeneries and set them down in whatever layout you liked so long as they fit together and didn’t overlap. Once selected, they became a build spot. You, or anyone else, could come along and apply crafting mats to the spot to grow it into the finished item. There were half-built versions to indicate progress.
The buildings couldn’t be customized so much (I think maybe there were some furniture hooks inside) and were of fascistic dimension. Still, there was a lot of room for creativity. I ran a contest for the prettiest plot; people came up with amazing designs using the simplistic objects available.
I think ANet’s art is so far beyond what we had in Horizons that people will be able to make Caudecus Manors of their own. At least, I hope so.
We get a few of these threads a week, it seems. I know the search function is kittened but still, just skimming the forums regularly will get you any number of them to bump instead of making a new one
Anyway, I don’t enjoy roaming in WvW, I die even one on one (though it’s possible that thief that 2 shotted my guardian was haxing, she’s got a lot of defense and everyone else had to beat on her for a while). But I have one gold star and am closing in on my second, after which there is no reason to do it again. Heck, there’s no reason to do it now, I’m not making any Legendaries. My guardian just needs to explore, it’s part of her Hunt.
A royal pain in the behind, yes. Needs changing, no. The only point where I feel it gets beyond the pale is when LS event achieves require navigating PvP JP’s where others hang out purely to grief people attempting the achieves. That splits the community every time and angers everyone.
Conski said it very well. Guild halls tend to be customized by the guild leader, all well and good but guild members need places to hang their hats as well. I know my guild leader desperately wants an airship for a guild hall. That’ll be fun but my conman noble needs a mansion, my seamstress commoner needs an apartment over a shop, my street rat could use any old hovel or even an alleyway or barn. I have a sylvari who recently moved in with her first love, he has a tiny pod jammed with books and musical instruments. A one-size-fits-all guild hall simply won’t match up with all the individual tastes out there.
That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have guild halls, or perhaps allow a guild leader to build two properties and design one to fit the guild needs. Hmm. I mentioned all the different living styles of just a few of my alts. Are we going to be able to do character by character, or will KISS mean an account wide home to customize?
If Ele continues to dissatisfy you, give Mesmer a try. It’s the only class I leveled to 80 for the pure fun of it without any RP. Lots of active things to do, lots of tricks to avoid getting squished, and by all accounts highly desired in dungeons and WvW.
Check out the Cook’s outfit, it’s different on every race and dyes pretty well.
Rhapsody has it right. Guesting just instances you. I can confirm from personal experience. Be very very careful when clicking the button, however, because transfer is right next to guest. (I’m sure you also know to be careful when swapping to repping the storage guild — I get little paranoid anxieties every time I do it since Leave Guild is right next to Represent, and that is horrible design).
Oniyui, you just described how they work. Present the ticket(s), get the item. Right now you can present fewer tickets. They’re called “claim tickets” but that doesn’t mean they have to fit a narrow definition of the term. Heck “slab of red meat” = pork, beef, mutton, or anything else that wouldn’t count as “slab of poultry,” which is moa, chicken, and so on.
Or you could just hold both mouse buttons down to run, put your finger over the toggle, let up on the mouse and tap the toggle for a microsecond hiccup in your motion.
If you want to turn off the autorun option, unbind it from any key.
Why is this thread posted both in here and in General?
Sushi makes more sense but bacon’s been a glaring omission from cooking since the dawn of the game. It can’t be cut out because of fear of offending non-pork eaters, as other things in the game would far more offend such cultures. I thought at first it might be because you get either red meat or poultry so the final dish is made without reference to the red meat’s origin, but you do get specifically named meat dishes.
Besides, bacon makes everything better. So I vote for it as the new ascended ingredient!
Use the Support feature on this site (scroll to the bottom of this page to see it). It should be self explanatory once you click on it. Screenshots will be awesome.
I doubt they’ll ever tell you the result of your report, but they should be able to look at that player’s history and if s/he’s a scammer, they can Do Things s/he will neither like nor understand. (To quote an old LARP saying).
Asura feel more “easy mode” for jumping puzzles because you get better camera control in tight places. They have more amusing Personal Story at the start than norns or humans (subjective opinion on my part, of course, and I note I’ve only run one Asura through and helped a few friends with some PS steps). Any other differences lie in the aesthetics you don’t care about.
If you hit B to bring up the WvW info (and are in main), you’ll see a pie chart. Your server will be one of three colors. You can enter that color controlled keeps via the magic doors. Over time, which color your server is rotates, so you own different parts of the map. You can pretty easily get the pois in the keeps you own if you can run safely to them.
Maybe because in every single match up TC is dominating and is capable of taking any keep simply because they have more numbers?
Both people from servers that always get a population advantage in wvw and people from servers that constantly switch colors shouldn’t even have a say in this topic.
Actually, it depends on which tier we’re in. When we edge up to Tier 1, it’s a pure nightmare to run around WvW as a noob because we are roflstomped. Slide to Tier 2 and yes, we end up doing a heck of a lot better.
But indeed, WvW is more fun when there’s a good chance of winning at least some of the time.
No need, just go to

to get current status on all servers all temples.
I’ve had the worst time trying to keep the game at a consistent volume. For days on end it’ll be too quiet, then suddenly everything is crystal clear or even far too loud. Sometimes relogging or zoning affects the volume. Changing the sliders while in game seems to do little.
This morning it was on the quiet side. I moved the sliders towards max (no effect) and shut the game down to go eat lunch. On return it was about right. But it’s been creeping up, and now that I’ve entered the Retribution PS the battle music is blaring audibly through my house. It doesn’t help that today I have a persistent headache
I had it all about right for a while. Then I spent an evening playing PopCap Bejeweled Twist through their website, that game coming out so painfully loud that I hit its mute button. Right after that GW2 got too quiet, until the sudden swings in volume I’m now experiencing. It’s done this before, seemingly after I had to adjust volume for something in Firefox, but sometimes the ups and downs in volume come merely from zoning without my having changed anything in game or computer settings.
So this could be a game bug or could be an issue with my particular computer. If I need to give specs I’ll need someone to tell me how to find them, I never remember. (PC running Win7).
Thanatos, are you on NA? I can try to round up some guildies to do Toypocalypse with you and let you stand in a corner staring at the ground to avoid the freeze up.
I’m logging in to game now, give me a holler if interested (caveat: my guild’s been mostly AWOL for the holidays so I can’t promise we’ll have enough on and interested).
Some mobs do dodge, notably the bandits. Others have other things they do to avoid/block attacks, like the improbably blocking archers in CM.
It would be fun for the AI to be a little less predictable, sure, but sometimes you want the feeling of control from knowing in advance what the enemy will do. Or I do; my reflexes aren’t so hot but I can learn over time and feel like an accomplished fighter against mobs. Since my character is supposed to be good at combat, it’s nice that I can make them look good.
That’s an RP viewpoint. I know I cringe when I flub JPs on my super-athletic perfect-balance acrobat thief. So I’ve spent time learning them better so he can look good
Anyway, having the AI always able to hurt you badly if you’re not on the top of your game is good in short bursts but I for one don’t want to feel constantly smashed by the world. That was one thing that killed DaoC for me, if I went 10 feet outside a city the world ate my caster alive. It’s nice in GW2 that I can look at the scenery rather than spooking at the color of mob names as I run for my life.
Tobias, check your page where you did that. I know I had a minor point about housing permissions, but it was “about a day ago” (searching my posts clicks to the end of this thread instead of to the specific post) and the summary is at “about 2 days ago” by page count.
I’m no PvPer. I occasionally enjoy WvW if I have experienced guildies on Mumble coaching me along and running with me. I still managed my first gold star around the time of the first Karka invasion, by dint of getting the WvW parts done whenever I could. It helped that I was on a thief and very fleet of foot and stealthy. It also helped that I was on Tarnished Coast, which does reasonably well over time. If you’re exploring, you don’t want to join in the fighting, you want to tag pois and vistas and boogie out of there. Though if there’s a zerg going to unexplored spots, that’s your ticket to those, and you might pick up a bit of loot along the way (and help your server). Also go in during large new game events — most everyone will be checking that out and there will be less enemy action to avoid.
I’m on my second star now, with just Fireheart Rise and most of WvW to go. TC’s been green for weeks >< I’m still on TC, woot, but now I’m using a guardian. It’s been a bit painful just working on TC Borderlands
Still, I just sort of set my mind to it being PvE with really nasty AI, and do all my protections and evasions that I can, and cross my fingers and hope enemies don’t spot that lone guardian trotting to the next vista. It’s doable. Not fun, but doable. The game should be fun; it also should have some things that make you do it all, as this does. At least I don’t have to sPvP for my star!
It would be pretty spiffy if there were seasons that made world wide sense. It’s always been a bit annoying in MMO’s that one could get the perpetual winter zone, the perpetual fall/spring/summer zone, but would have to just sort of RP what the local weather was doing by time of year. Dark and Light did seasons, though I don’t know how well that worked as the game failed very quickly and I only managed a day or two with it thanks to connectivity issues and an abysmal UI.
I know we have an accelerated and asymmetrical day/night cycle, and possibly we wouldn’t want game weather to match RL seasons anyway (those being reversed depending on hemisphere). However, wouldn’t it be just super keen if something dynamic could happen?
In a PnP game I played for a few years, the GM devised a simple weather table to roll up each day’s weather, with modifiers depending on what the previous day had been. Thus things shifted in a natural fashion as we played. Something like that might work here, with a pacing of “days” selected for interest factor without becoming glacial or dizzying. Have it affect a zone over time, preferably with some reference to contiguous zones so you don’t step through a short “passage” from snow to flowers. Unless it makes geographic sense, mountains doing odd things to climate on either side …. but I digress.
LotRO had semi-dynamic weather, but in one RP session sitting under some trees I realized it was just a very local, static cycle. And in 2 hours (a reasonable RP conversation time) it downpoured with bizarre regularity. Hopefully GW2 could be more random.
Ilna, that top looks just perfect with the Ascended skirt. I’ll have to try out that combo.
Yol. You just made me eager to get to that heart on my current alt. OMG.
I thought it was a permanent change, given the statement that they’d rather have suggestions in the relevant forum rather than isolated in their own section. Thus the devs most able to respond will have an already-filtered list of suggestions.
So right now, yes, this is a suggestion forum for things that don’t fit into specific categories such as PvP, race, WvW, etc.
As to the OP, it could be interesting but would this NPC accept things from your bank or do you have to load up on stacks of stuff to wander the world looking for the NPC?
I love the Fall Damage traits. I make a point of getting 10 points in whatever trait line has it so I can explore far more safely, get further in JPs, or deliberately trigger the effect (eg thief invisibility on falling is one more escape mechanism from Risen or WvW foes). I swap the trait out in dungeons with a fast click to something more useful in them.
I think the main reason the charr Whispers heart is so frustrating is that nightmare feeling of being stuck in slow motion while the monsters move freely. It takes away our control of our character. The concept is neat, the execution flawed. If it all got sped up to regular movement (with concomitant changes to NPC speed and patterns), likely it would be much more exciting to most everyone.
I’ve noticed that it occasionally doesn’t seem to register my 6-9 keys. I nearly died a few times because every single right-hand note was missed.
Regarding house visitation: If we go with LotRO style instanced neighborhoods, and they get as popular as in LotRO, it would be very hit or miss that any particular person would see your particular house. When I was garnering interior decorating ideas I just randomly jumped into neighborhoods (there were hundreds of them) and went looking for houses with entry permissions that let me in. My friends, of course, could come to our known guild instance (we snagged most of the lots) and come to my house. But random people would have more issues stumbling on it. Plus, well, I wouldn’t have permissions for people to just wander in unless it’s easily toggled or even has an automatic “only friends may enter while I’m inside or on the grounds.” Because in RP if you are having a clandestine meeting to plot against some noble, it’s rather jarring for a large norn in red boxing gloves to jump into your living room and start dancing.
You know it would happen.
Anyway, I don’t feel a need to coerce people to come see it, or to get game rewards for visitors. Minigame activities in a neighborhood might work to get people gathered and having fun, then they can spot the cool architecture I’ve put up. Perhaps neighborhoods could sponsor parties that have interesting things happening, and the drop down list of available places could list “this one is having a (this theme) party?” I don’t mean RP sandbox parties, those will certainly happen — and perhaps someone with a house in that neighborhood could flag “RP Event” so people know to come look — I mean actual game mechanic things. A shooting range, a birthday party, a formal ball, whatever!
I loathe it. I did ONE time get to the end — and a Whispers charr poofed out of stealth and laughed and pointed.
My necro vari started out apple red with a mushroom head. Then I found out that almost no dyes looked good on her, and she went blue-ish with a daring forward-swept deep marine blue edged leaf-bangs thing. Then the new hair came out and she got fern braids.
The dyes are the killer for red varis unless you’re willing to clash horribly (which could be nicely IC). They also affect cultural armor. I have Lemon skin on my vari warrior, which is a lovely gold-green or green-gold. Unfortunately it makes a dull brown in the armor. A big red splash in the same place would be equally restrictive in how the armor could be dyed.
I agree, they’re awesome. I’ve done the bark face for mine and her needle nose fits her, she’s all pointy wood bits. The recent character slot sale means I have open slots, though … I might have to do someone noseless for my next leveling project.
Mine arrived just under 15 minutes ago, quaggan and mini both in one mail. The mini is quite large! Noticeable even next to my Charr.
There is a secret Whispers place in Ebonhawke. Always fun to duck in there.
Chat Box QoL: Custom color palettes for each channel so we can choose what color should pop out at us. Or at least for the love of all Tyria brighten up the emote text from that dull grey that requires concentrated squinting to read. RPers everywhere will rejoice.
That being said, please keep the good features of chat: customizable tabs, and the toggles only making the text invisible. It’s still there if you want to turn it on and scroll up for missed comments.
Please revert the say and emote range to what it was before whatever patch expanded it to half a city. There’s no reason for people in the LA Bank to overhear conversations in the Crow’s Nest. It was a good range for group events before, about the distance of a large room such as the sword room in the Flame Temple in NE Diessa.
They’ve already stated the different armor weights use different meshes and simply won’t work cross-weight.
Thus to accomplish this they’d have to issue new armors for each weight that look styled to another weight. Which they could, and I’d be all for it, but it’s not as simple as toggling a permission.
They should continue to sell it forever once you unlock the vendor. You do have to be on the character that unlocked it.
That Ebonhawke guard is a hypochondriac. Once or twice I went to help him and it turned out his dire situation was imaginary and all was under control.
Here’s a question: as new systems are implemented to enhance the experience on new skills etc, what are the chances of making them retroactive? That is, once we have new fun ways to accomplish stuff, why not revise older content to reflect the new system? Sure people that already got the current skill sets might feel miffed that they had to do it the old “boring” way, but the game needs to progress and attract new players. Plus we can always roll an alt to play the new version.
Maybe that Toxic Bulwark killed him and you were there before he respawned?
Go up on top of the plateau, which is easiest from the south. You’ll find a Hylek with a poison gun. Fight him and win for the skill. Have condition removal and dodges thanks to the poison shooting at you but concentrate your attacks on the Hylek.
Was it 1/3/14 on the west coast of the United States? They had a specific time frame, and a countdown timer on the sale. I bought 2 slots for 500 each (I think, numbers don’t stick in my head, but definitely not 800 each).
There are alt codes. You can google for charts of them. Basically you hold down the alt key and hit 3 numbers and it makes an accented letter.
