From the waypoint at the docks, head over towards the digs. When the entrance to the tiki bar is to your left, you should be on the gold star to start it. I didn’t see it at first because a commander was on top of it.
Some people in Map said the doors open south to north. I don’t know what cues the opening. My door did open this second try, and my platform got cleared. After a bit of watching the other platforms, unable to help them, my platform got ported back to the gate and the little golem began to take it down again, but the timer was too far advanced.
I enjoyed it. I have an odd fondness for chewing glass to learn encounters, and getting surprised by how they go instead of pre-learning it all from the web before my first view. It’s going to feel great when the Wurm and Marionette go down.
The wurm fight you described is for one head. The Cobalt head requires fighting off pirates, wurms, and husks while ferrying bombs to the base of the Wurm Head (at a red arrow, I am told, I never saw it), and you have to get at least (20?) bombs in very fast. That will breach the slime coating and let you attack it, in theory — we never did the bombs right.
You get to Cobalt by doing the escort that heads off to the northwest.
I never saw a red arrow, I’ll look for a screenie to show what it looks like (I assume Dulfy guides etc are mushrooming up by now).
We’re all learning as we go! I was on Cobalt Wurm this past fight, with bombs to place. Apparently we were Doing It Wrong because you have to find the red arrow for placing and get at least 20 down fast.
You need 50 to make the special core, I think.
Yep, the patch just hit. Gentlemen, start your engines!
Zaxares, Horizons did (and does) let you play a dragon. Not exactly serpentoid, but not bipedal either. You start as a hatchling, go on a huge quest to grow and get wings (yes, you can fly), and then another huge quest to get full grown (dragons are very big). You also can quest to get a bipedal lizardish form, human sized, to fit in buildings.
One reason to guest is to play with friends. Another is to check out a server before spending cash to move to it. It seems rude to say “we’re so great everyone wants to be here, that means they don’t get to play with us unless they spend money.”
Are you sure you got a Hood recipe, not a backpiece? The backpiece one goes for a few gold, and could go up later although all the presents on the TP will still have a shot at dropping it. I don’t think the Hood can be crafted.
In the main discussion forum there is a thread on Post a Pic of Your Mix and Match. You can scan through that to see screens of many individualized outfits achieved through mixing pieces from various sets.
On top of what Argon said, it’s canon straight from the lore devs that the various races cannot interbreed. Plus there aren’t elves so where does that half come from?
Tengu seem most likely to be next since there’s so much infrastructure for them in game already. Kodan could be interesting though I don’t enjoy Norn and Charr so much simply due to camera angle issues — but how to customize a race that always has white fur?
I don’t think the ends justifies the means, not on Scarlet’s scale. She’s murdered thousands, displaced more thousands from their homes, poisoned the environment … she doesn’t get to say “oh, I’m so misunderstood.”
And I’m even a criminal defense attorney. At some point, all you can do is try to mitigate the sentence a little.
Also, it gives you tiers to complete. So you can be 50% complete on the tier you are on, but still have two more tiers to go and thus reset at the start of the next tier. If you turn on tracking by clicking the eye next to the achieve in the achievements panel, then mouse over the tracker in the upper right of your screen, it will show you % of current and your overall goal, such as 3/20 Gatherings.
Zeefa, the Tyrian calendar was only 360 days long, and started its new year more around March (our time) than January. They’ve turned it into a mirror of Earth in term of orbit time.
ANet has said that. Tuesday is January 21st, which is the next LS chapter. In the live stream spotlighting some of the stat/rune/sigil changes, they talked about this Tuesday being the first part of a larger scale revamp.
It’s the instanced area in your city containing several points of interest. In any city, actually. For Charr it’s near the exit to the Plains. You can go in the “home” instance in any city even if it’s not yours.
Asura – Rata Sum – one of the portals on the main top level. I’m never sure which part of the triangle has it.
Human – Divinity’s Reach — Salma District, ne part of the city.
Norn – Hoelbrak – the Great Lodge. Look to your left from the WP just inside the door, the instance is right there.
Sylvari – the Grove – bottom level near the waypoint, a white-green glowing plant door.
I can think of a reason: The leader may have set permissions such that no one else can do certain things in the game such as modify the logo, get at parts of the bank, kick off guild missions, etc. If s/he is gone forever, the guild is crippled.
Human. Narrower shoulders and waist, and the clincher is the hair on the right hand shot is one of the new human only hair styles.
There are still dailies. They are on the daily tab (not the Wintersday tab), marked with a special icon, usually at the bottom of the panel. You have to do the particular Wintersday one. Now, it may not be advancing your meta as it should, that’s a separate issue, but the daily does exist.
Given TESO’s April 4 launch date, I would not be surprised at all if GW2 got some huge things just before that or even on the same weekend. WoW did it to GW2’s launch, and it seems all the MMO companies juggle their announcements until they know when someone else is doing something big so they can work to hold interest in their own product.
“A short break” could be a mere two weeks. Wrap up Scarlet in early March, give us a giant features patch in late March, and try to keep us from flocking to TESO never to return. (I intend to try out TESO and perhaps split my time with it, but fully expect GW2 to remain my prime game experience).
I’ve never gotten anything RNG good out of the Forge (Mystic Salvage Kits otoh are a guaranteed result and so worth it). I’ve barely touched it thanks to a few early attempts returning trash. I’ve also never gotten a precursor and not too many exotics despite heavy game play since launch.
Mimizu, a precursor is a weapon used as the base for a legendary weapon. For instance if you want to make the Minstrel, then on top of all the massive amounts of mats and exploration you must gather, you must also get hold of the Bard. Precursors drop more rarely than hen’s teeth, or can come from being lucky with tossing random rares or exotics in the Forge. Or you can just farm the gold and buy one off the TP from someone else who got super lucky.
All the golden hues seem to grab me for almost all my alts. I lucked into Perseverance last night and have no idea which of me will get it (though it seems close enough to Gold to go for the somewhat less expensive shade for alts). Also deep greens such as Evening Grass, vibrant blues like Blue Rose … pretty much anything that isn’t washed out and helps pop out texture detail.
Moss is a must have for any alt, it’s such a lovely off-green. My darker skinned alts can handle oranger shades. I do use Celestial/White for accents, and Abyss as well, but those tend to kill detail so they usually don’t do well as primary fields.
To keep the world living, so to speak, they’ve elected to make most of it temporary. Things happen and become part of history. So you can’t do the Aetherblade dungeon anymore other than the tiny slice of it in fractals, the tower in Kessex is fallen, etc.
At this time there is no way for newcomers to play the old content. Otoh there’s always more stuff coming.
I like it. I assume you mean for there to be 8 separate monthly missions each month, for those who don’t have altitis?
It means opening Wintersday Gifts. You can get it fast by following a gift dolyak through LA.
You can buy a key a day in Kessex for 30 pristine spores and some silver coins. The chest is on the north edge of the lake near the Wurm spawn (visible on your map as a large chest icon). Key pieces will drop occasionally but the only guarantee is buying them off the vendor.
It could very well vanish this Tuesday. Go ahead and combine your key pieces and go open the chest. If you have multiple keys on you you can open it multiple times in a row, one key per open.
I have the impression that the sudden surge in Rune of Strength only affected those watching the stream. Anyone not watching would have no reason to suddenly stock/buy the Rune, so any “insider” action was all between people with equal knowledge of the stream information and the ones making profit were making it off others trying to get in on the flip action just a tad later. It amused me that people shark frenzied on that one when the devs were saying every Rune and Sigil would change.
Definitions matter hugely. If each person in a discussion has a different personal understanding of what a term means, there can be no meeting of the minds. It’s not pedantry.
A thinks “blue” means water. B thinks “blue” means diamonds. How are they supposed to agree on the value of blue things?
I’ve noticed this mostly by price sorts. It’s a pain when I’m looking for a spread of dyes for a new alt and don’t want to get the pricy ones. I have to go alpha sort and scan for the ones below my price threshold on each page, or I find out when I go to the pickup tab that I’ve bought more than one of the same dye. A tooltip line saying “X in Purchase Tab” where X = the number bought would be super nice.
They really should announce this, since they revealed, or maybe let’s just say talked about, new/replacement game mechanics. I had no idea this was going on, or was going to go on, reminds me of the amateur days of posting patch notes on reddit opposed to their main site.
They did announce it, on these very forums.

Take a look at Dulfy, she summarizes the livestreams. Also you can google for GW2 livestream and select the Twitch link you get, that’s how I found it today before the stream began. I’m pretty sure they archive the streams so you can view them later by clicking on the Video button at upper right. I don’t save the link or I’d put it here for you.
Side note: That video button is very nice at hiding the chat window when the inanity and vituperation gets too distracting.
Character names are global, even between NA and EU. You can use odd accents or add a title or alter the spelling to get around that but cannot have the exact same name as any other player’s character.
I hear tell that you can indeed transfer for free if you delete them all, but should make sure to put any non-soulbound items you want to keep in your bank as that carries over with the account. Soulbound things can be salvaged for mats to save.
Gems are on your account, they should stick with you until spent. Likewise anything you get each time you create a character should continue to work, but already soulbound items will poof with the deletions. Make very sure anything unique like a mini Rytlock is in the bank. Also if you have special armor like Primeval, transmute it onto low level white items to put in the bank because if you leave it soulbound, no other alt will ever be able to pick it up.
You are correct, there are white-named areas that hold no world completion goals and hence have no little icons to guide you to them. I think it’s the wiki maps that show you the white name zones with little borders. Sort of like county maps. It helps if you have two monitors, you can compare the wiki map side by side with yours to see what might be missing.
The Twitch livestream referenced in several other threads close by.
Yes, before anyone complains about how the devs spoke, they’d better not be one of the ones making hateful physical assessments of the men in the stream. And hateful mental ones as well. I don’t know how the one guy who had to read the chat and post comments in it managed to type constructively. You want professional, I’ll say that was super professional because he said useful things as if the vomiting bile text wasn’t even there.
I’m probably older than you, and I do appreciate professionalism. However, I didn’t mind them talking like it’s fun to work on the game. If one’s only in it for serious grown up stuff, why work on entertainment? Plus if they came on all corporate grownup speak, there’d be complaints that they’re only doing it for the money, they’re too slick, etc.
These are real people working on something they really enjoy, and informality in that context warms my heart far more than polished corporate presentations.
I think they had 7 minutes per profession. And while they didn’t do an even 7 minutes, they certainly did more than 30 seconds on Ele and Engineer. And on the others but since I’m not a theorycrafter I zoned out a bit.
They highlighted some changes, there are many more they couldn’t/wouldn’t go into until the “hype” can happen. Apparently buffs are coming for everyone along with the nerfs mentioned.
The “buff” to Healing Signet is just making the active use more attractive so the player has to decide when to use it rather than defaulting to never. (Yes, I have 2 80 warriors, no I don’t actually use them for anything but RP).
I’m glad I got a dungeon run in last night
My guild’s small enough that most of our dungeoning generally requires filling a slot or two from LFG, and it’s been lovely to be able to do that. Even if we do get some surprise from our puggers when they realize that our LFG comment “killing mobs” means we’re, you know, not rushing past mobs.
Here’s hoping LFG comes back asap.
Since the original idea seems to raise a flag. How about just a toggle to allow/disallow the channel period. I rarely use it and wouldn’t have any issue disabling it.
That exists. Go into your chat tab settings and unclick Whispers. Done. The whispers will still exist but you’ll never see them unless you toggle the box on.
I think Behellagh meant “in forums” not in threads. While I’d encourage keeping similar suggestions in appropriate threads (e.g. Mounts can really just keep going in one thread by now unless there’s a radical new idea on it), what the devs have asked is that we put our Dungeon suggestions in the Dungeons forum, our Living World ones there, etc. If no particular category seems appropriate, then use the main discussion forum.
Some have requested there be a category section in each forum, much as Living Story has a general LS subforum along with forums dedicated to each update.
A slight aside, what made you think you’d lose the tool animations? I have at least one of every tool and they all swapped to account bound with ease. You just need them in inventory when you talk to a Black Lion Weapon Specialist and boom, they get swapped in a quick dialogue. The animations remain the same.
As a followup, I had the game at a good volume on Monday. I then did not play on Tuesday or Wednesday. This evening on login everything’s drastically muted. I think my computer startup sound was also abnormally quiet, so it could be my specific system rather than something on the game side, as noted above.
It’s so frustrating not hearing the game.
Nor is there any promise there not to throw an Asura and a Dwarf.
As to that interview, I am feeling a frisson of my original excitement for this game. Don’t get me wrong, I love it dearly and play it nearly daily and any other game will have to work very hard at being so perfect for my playstyle, but that breathless anticipation I had when the beta weekends were coming, when launch was just around the corner, when the Mad King flung his pumpkins over the land … that’s been missing.
Now it just might be rekindling.
I’d take whoever of my friends wanted to go. I love that this game doesn’t require specific professions (even if some do better in some areas).
skritt risen would be OP as skritt get smarter the more numbers they have and risen is all about zergs :v so zaithan actually had mercy and wanted us to stand a chance
Or else Zhaitan knew better than to make an army that could usurp it through sheer intellect.
I bet it is “hard” followed by “on.” I’ve seen that censored before.
DirectSong was just about my worst purchasing experience ever and I got the disks, albeit many weeks late. There was not one single nice post about them that I saw. Does Soule actually own it? The site looks set up to be a classical music distributor and if my purchase of the soundtrack for GW2 had been better handled I might have used them for a lot of cd’s.
