I was in an overflow win in the last one, the 5 pm Eastern one. It was great! Even if my platform failed on boss 2 because we only had 3 people and one was DOA. Then we got to try boss 5 and my platform won but 2 others lost.
Hurray for overflow lane 3!
Or they could scale it down to one group member per lane instead of 25 people, with far fewer mobs to fight off. And have just one platform for the group member to fight on (maybe NPC’s on the other 4, but make or break is how the player does).
It wouldn’t be quite the same but it might have the flavor.
Also you can just drag a bigger bag onto the slot. You’ll get more space and the 4-slotter will swap with the one you dragged on.
What I mean is you can only have 10 messages in your mailbox. So if you have a full mailbox, the mail with your sprocket node won’t show up until you clear things out.
I’ve only checked in Salma. It is in the orphanage yard near the front door. I’m rather dubious about this … bad enough there’s a giant candy corn lump near the seesaw, and a crystal clump that shatters into shards just around the building corner, but now there’s a spire you whack with a sharp mining pick to knock of flying metal sharp-toothed cogs? An -electrified- spire at that?
Then the mining nodes are lined up on the sidewalk in the noble quarter. That sort of maybe works. The streets are made of precious metal? There are sculptures of ore placed by some art committee?
It’s not in your mailbox? Check that your box has room for more mail.
I’m not overfond of WvW myself, at least when running around alone. I have never enjoyed the paranoid feeling that something could attack me at any moment, I really hate running across 2/3 of the map only to be ganked 10 feet from the vista I need by a group that chased me down simply to kill me as I was nowhere near anything important to them … but I’m working on my second completion and if TC would just take the NE part of EBG I’d get it. I have 2 pois and 2 vistas to go, along with some Fireheart Rise I’m saving so I can get the gold star without heart attacks and adrenalin bursts poisoning the feeling of victory. Or maybe if TC would fail miserably and turn red next week
Curse you Red Team! 2 weeks I’ve been looking to slip into a pair of keeps, 2 weeks you’ve held back all attacks!
Anyway, it’s a non-fun part of exploration but it’s not impossible even for a confirmed non-PvPer like myself.
Now I understand why I couldn’t get more than one Nutrient against Cobalt today, the second one gave me the puking debuff that stunned me every few steps. Note to self: One nibble only!
I’ve seen only a smidgen of that. Most people have been plenty nice even on fails. So it’s luck of the draw whether you get nice or nasty companions in your marionette fight.
One helpful thing is to patiently explain things in map before the fight begins every time someone asks. For instance, even though it’s plenty obvious by now that the five minute timer will start on the hour, there are still people that don’t know and ask “how long until it starts?” One could deride them … or simply explain the timing. If someone says they’re new to it, offer to /w them the fight explanation. I just did this on Wurm with a new person and we partied up and had a blast at Cobalt.
In any case, one can hardly tell ANet “Hey, your MMO? It’s too massive, you need to prevent large groups from congregating because man, people get nasty to each other when they get crowded.” The cure lies in players doing social engineering, not ANet reducing event size.
It works just fine, as long as the alt can use the item. So you can’t give a heavy helm to a mesmer, for instance. You have to put it in the bank and it might say “soul bound” but it’s really account bound once it’s on the white stat item.
Check the Audio subforum, guys, there are threads with songs for the various instruments as well as an agreed upon notation system.
Oh, by fragments I thought you meant journal fragments. If you mean the cypher bits from fighting marionette, yes, hold on to those! Every 25 becomes a key to a chest full of goodies in the lair.
I don’t think you get any more fragments of the journal. For cores, no. I’m a life-long packrat (I still have things like the candy meter and low-end Mad King’s Memoires backpiece), but I sold off my excess cores. You can get back into the lair any time once you’ve opened it.
Sheesh, can’t you just congratulate them without the faint praise part? “Noob” is a mean word (sometimes) for people that are too new to be good at something. I can’t see calling the team that beat the Wurm first in the world noob — did you take it down in five tries?
TTS posted they didn’t have the resources to add more people right now because it takes a lot to manage a set of 500 person guilds but will be open again as of Feb 1.
You talk to them. You get a little star leading you to the next chat, but it also works in the scene as you just follow a daisy chain of NPC’s from one talk to the next. You get some lore, some character development.
The only issue I had with presentation was the lack of indication that you’d seen all the chats. So I had to spot check a few and figure out I was only getting repeat commentary before exiting the instance.
You don’t even need a timer for marionette and wurm. Every hour on the hour there is one of them, taking turns. Marionette is on even hours by ANet time (Pacific), wurm on odd. You can show up minutes before, ask Map where you’re needed, and go to that spot.
Though yes, you will be in Overflow. Not necessarily failing on marionette. On wurm there’s only been one win, so you’ll fail that but learn the encounter and collect achieves, most of which are pretty darn easy to get.
You misunderstand the OP request. S/he isn’t asking to make more masks. S/he is asking to be able to have the skin on more than one item or more than one alt — but can still only wear one at a time.
I echo this request. I haven’t even -used- the darn thing because I have 12 80’s covering all armor weights. Once I use it on one, that’s 2/3 of the armor weights I can never put it on no matter how many crystals I spend.
It’ll still be unique, and still show the wearer completed the Tower. But it’s too hard a choice to assign to just one alt ever.
I hope you aren’t accusing the OP of feigning. I’ve also seen a lot of can-do, jesting around, fun even when losing attitudes. Maybe the OP is being nice because s/he actually feels nice?
I know I do. Thanks, ANet, this has been a great leap forward in combat content (with a few flaws, but nothing’s ever going to be perfect).
That’s just cruel, Cormac. You want to give her … latency?
Fantastic opening and closing speeches! Also a wonderful this is how you do it video. Thanks for sharing, and once again, congratulations!
…. Americans don’t like death in their media? Watched anything out of Hollywood lately? Plus we’re super insulated from the death in our wars, unless you mean back to WWII, of which most gamers of today have no personal memory.
The simpler answer was already given: in that particular RP scenario, the Marionette didn’t exist. Sometimes one wants to tell a smaller story. That doesn’t mean the player wouldn’t incorporate the Marionette in another RP, but likely this one was set before or after, or wasn’t even in Lornar’s except the cave had the right set up to use as a background (I did one RP set in Shaemoor using a house in Kessex because Shaemoor didn’t have any enterable houses that worked).
You can get pristine spore samples from the Toxic one, and you get salvage scrap metal appropriate to the chest. I did salvage a watchwork scrap, I got some sprockets, whee. I’ve sold all the other salvage scraps. Also you can get more cypher pieces! So if you’re close to another key, don’t use up your Spare Key pouches until you’ve opened all the chests you can, it might affect which type of cypher you want to open up with the Spare Key.
Make sure to have bag space and salvage kits when you go in, there really is a lot in the chests.
Every two hours, on the hour, if you are on ANet time it’s on even hours. If you are on East Coast US time, it’s on odd hours. Anywhere else you have to do your own math
There are blue and purple ones: Tier 3 Cultural, and TA dungeon token ones.
apparently is chopped liver
Hurray! Well done, you lot!
I got in TC main for the first time since the patch last night, thanks to the new build. The next marionette fight got me my first win, woot! So I waited for the next one after that which did much worse, alas. I think we only got 2 chains down, and in my lane a zillion champs were charging through the gate.
Otoh map chat was a ton of fun.
Anyway, given how hard it is to even get in main, I feel like main or overflow will have the same mixed bag of people and maybe there’s no magic win promised just because you’re in a full main.
For those complaining about overflow, remember that overflow was hailed with cheers when they introduced it. No more queuing up to play the game! This was in beta. Also in beta we had serious issues with playing with our friends because the Join feature wasn’t there yet, and they added that to let parties gather.
While it would be nice to find a more elegant way to get everyone doing the content organized to one overflow, I shudder to think of how much worse it would be if you had to queue up for a chance to get in and play at all.
Dusk: The only guarantee you have is gold. Since you get gold on the Frostgorge train, perhaps you should focus on that and see if you get a Dusk by the time you have 900 gold. If not, buy.
Those are pretty much all the same thing with only the helm changing. Personally I find the Zephyr helm a bit dorky though it works well in your first picture, so I’d go with the tattoo mask in shot 2. The rest of your changes are only dyes so those can change all the time with your mood.
Completely subjective personal taste, though, so the final question is which YOU like looking at the most.
Whoops Mercury, no link in that reply! Here it is.

Also make sure when you guest over that you move to a safe location before returning to your home server.
I made 3 ascended things (Light coat and skirt, and the wings) and getting the dragonite was the least difficult part. Silk, now, silk slowed me down a lot once my stock was exhausted.
Right now if you are fighting the Marionette and getting cypher keys, you can get a nice amount of dragonite out of the Scarlet’s Lair chests, along with a lot of yellows. I’ve even heard of two precursor drops out of the chests (only two, so no one should expect to have a real chance at one).
In the upper right of your inventory panel there is a little cogwheel. Click on that, then on “deposit all collectibles.” All your gathered mats will vanish. You can find them in the collectibles tab in the bank (the grid of dots icon). Banks are in major cities (look for the moneybag icon) and any crafting station (the starter zones all have a crafting area) — even if you don’t know the craft, you can use the station and click on the bag icon tab to access your bank.
I keep thinking there must be some hidden mechanic that helps hurt the heads. Because a giant zerg couldn’t kill the one head I saw (Cobalt) fast enough, and even the coordinated fights where several heads are getting damaged seem stuck at 25-30% health by the 2 minute deadline.
Hanged if I’ve the slightest idea what that hidden trick might be, though.
I can’t type and fight at ALL. I’ll note, though, that if you realize you left off /s you can hit Home to get to the start of the line, type the /s (with a space after it), and hit End to return to the end without having to delete it all. It’s still cumbersome when you’re in combat and maybe you want to hit enter on half a line then do the next, but at least you got something out.
They used to grow in the Citadel of Flame but adventurers speed running trampled them to oblivion.
CoFfee trees, that is.
I don’t mind the repeated trials and failures but can we get some regular loots on event mobs? 3 days later, I have only made 73copper for failing the event.
; _ ;
There is one champion on each escort that drops a bag. For instance on Amber the champ husk at the end of the tunnel does. I know because I reflexively hit my aoe loot key every time something near me dies. They don’t want people derailed from the event to farm champions, thus no loot pinatas.
I was in a Teq killing guild for a bit (might have been TTS) and they seemed plenty nice and helpful. I only left because I wasn’t going to regularly go after Teq and I needed the guild slot. I may drop a defunct guild in order to rejoin come Feb 1. Certainly I have no issue with an inclusive group of people organizing to coordinate hard content (though yes, the title likely should be edited in this thread to half-defeated or some such
).
I can likely find enough guildies to help you through it tomorrow evening (Fri Jan 24, Eastern time). I happen to have an alt ready to go through Arah Story anyway.
Right now it’s bedtime, though! So grab me after work tomorrow if you don’t get a group sooner
(It’s not the hardest dungeon. Arah explorable path 4 is the hardest. Or at least longest).
Don’t get mad if someone else attacks the mob you’re fighting. They’re helping and you’ll still get all your xp and loot, only faster. Same with gathering nodes, no one can steal them.
Do dodge. A lot. Avoiding damage is key.
Warrior is pretty easy to learn on, yes. Elementalist and Engineer will take the most to figure out.
Do read the sticky at the top of this forum about omg if only I knew this.
Do explore everywhere. If it looks interesting and you can jump to it, go! There are hidden surprises in most caves, behind waterfalls, atop mountains.
It is permanent. The Marionette is LS only.
No one’s beaten the Wurm yet afaik, so if that’s the source, no one will have the item.
I like this idea a lot. Not because it’s too hard as it is (I haven’t won yet, though I intend to), but because this change really does make it feel more like teamwork.
Here, I got a shot. It’s not linkable from the locker, so we’ll need someone to get a code:
Melkor is right. You can move it to a white item so another alt can get it, but that alt must be of the correct race.
I got the minis and ran around with them while waiting for marionette. All three tunneled and made little dirt tracks, then emerged. The dirt tracks even zigzagged when I changed direction.
Why dirt tracks in snow … that’s a different issue.
25 of each type of loot makes a cypher. You get your choice of a bag of those from a fail marionette attempt. Admittedly there aren’t many, I used both my Scarlet’s Keys bags to fill out one cypher, but in 2 failed fights I did have the first cypher without getting hundreds of drops.
My only concern was I wasn’t sure when it was done. The Wurm was coming and there didn’t seem to be any new dialogue, so I left. I no longer have the popup on my tracker, but the gold star is there. Maybe it’s repeatable? Or else I didn’t get some final thing done.
Didn’t it tell you to get a special item to open it? Maybe you have to fight the marionette first, that seems to be needed to check in with your allies, and you get info from the allies.
I got to the door after the first marionette fight, and now I know what items to gather to try to get inside. I don’t want to go in until I have one of each Cypher, though, in case they all get used inside.
