Generally the higher your stats the better you’ll do, assuming you know how to dodge. There’s a repair anvil at the start of each dungeon and free waypoints to it (so long as no one in the group is in combat). I’ve never EVER taken spare armor in. I’m no min-maxer, I go with guildies, and my main dungeon runner is my guardian who dies not very much at all.
You’ll want a good ranged option; dungeon critters are annoying close up and some fights actually need ranged fire (That ghost with the wolves in AC story, for instance).
Mostly you’ll want a group that a) knows how the fights work and b) is willing to take the time to explain it to you. Almost all the dungeons are easily managed with those two factors in play.
Thank you! Now I can find it when I get a hankering.
If you type /age it will tell you how many days you’ve had the character. It’s not as good as getting a date but you can do some math to figure it out.
Why any sane woman would choose to go into battle in heels I cannot begin to imagine. I’ve fenced, done kendo and arnis, been in medieval reeanactment groups … the only activity where heels have helped was Victorian waltzing.
Of course I won’t wear heels anyway thanks to bad arches, but I definitely would want a good center of balance for any combat.
I understand that realism isn’t the controlling factor in MMO armor and weapons, and I am not demanding that popular fantasy armor be nixed. Still, I do think one can be feminine in full plate while still looking like one could survive for more than two seconds.
They have been working on a LFG system. It’s just not here yet.
I thought it was doing a minigame, such as Keg Brawl or Sanctum Sprint, but I don’t know if Sprint is currently available.
When they are on lowbie items, they count as that level. So you just need stones. Once you want them on level 80 gear, -then- you need crystals. You get 3 stones per city completion and occasionally more from zone completion. Unless you transmute every single time you swap an item out, even when you’re only using it for a level or two, you just won’t run out of stones as long as you’re exploring. Not a dime or copper needed pre-80.
You can keep the neat looking set on low armor too, and swap to it when RPing or whatever you are doing that needs the looks but not the stats.
Ah, I do see one problem, the poster you quoted swapped terms. Stones are lower, Crystals are 80. Don’t buy Crystals.
Yes. Completionist requires 16 achieves from “either this category or Jubilee dailies.” There are 13 Jubilee achieves plus dailies that count even though they are listed under the daily tab rather than the Jubilee tab.
Gauntlet is its own set of achieves and seems not to count at all towards the mini.
Thief: Dodge all the livelong day and leave caltrops when I do.
Warrior: Look and talk tough (sorry, she’s more fun to RP than to PvE).
Guardian: Live forever, heal the party to full with a short channel, this rose has thorns and here they are!
Necromancer: Aoe all over, poisons, slows, fears, condition removal in spades.
Mesmer: Can’t touch me! I’m here, I’m there, I’m everywhere. Now with two rapiers and Venetian human T2. GS 5 knockback is sooo satisfying against a group.
Engineer: Um. Flinging a shield like Captain America? Alas, he feels ineffective in PvE and requires far too much keyboard roaming to hit skills.
Ranger: Hasn’t grabbed me though the greatsword flying leap is fun and bows do many interesting things.
Elementalist: Really too squishy for fun though trying out dagger/dagger showed there is some potential there. Still haven’t played her since a bit after launch, she’s only level 30 or so.
Actually, Mesmer might be just right for you. Greatsword lets you do a ton of ranged damage (you do more the further away you are) and there are melee weapons to use when something insists on getting in your face. The clones/phantasms aren’t pets as such, they are long-lasting spells that nicely distract the foe. You aren’t nearly as squishy as an Elementalist, either, and your downed skills are super powerful for getting you away and up again.
I was a bit clumsy at first with my Mesmer until I got a set up that let me keep 3 clones/phantasms up most of the time and learned when to use which F1-F4 skill. Now she’s my preferred Gauntlet and underwater fighter. I’m working on a second Mesmer now and not at all bored with the repeat. Mesmers are simply fun, mobile, and with enough options to keep mixing up the fight without getting overly complex or button mashy.
We have a few super competent Mesmers in my guild and they make any dungeon run a breeze.
edit: I also really don’t like pet classes, never have in any MMO. My Ranger here is my least played alt. So I mean it when I say the clones/phantasms don’t feel like pets to manage.
Try
http://argos-soft.net/GW2ArmorGallery/index.php?sex=1&weight=1&race=2&color=0
to see almost all the armor sets there are and all the places to find each skin. It’s missing the latest Aether/Phoenix items.
You could try the Fire and Frost dyes though they are getting ever more expensive since there is no longer a source for them. They have gradients when applied to armor, thus getting a multitone effect. There are six of them, with a blue/orange dye icon. “Flame” might work for you. If you search for “dye” on the TP then sort by price, the F&F ones will be in the most expensive end.
Try to remember how each one attacks, I guess, that’s how I did it.
Stony Shield — has columns of dirty tornadoes with knockback
Whirling — does a spinning blade attack all over the combat area
Hammer — pounds you with a hammer
Blazing Gun — shoots you
Lightning Blade — has electrical arcs
If any of those sound unfamiliar, that’s the one you need.
Backing it up a step, if you haven’t found the Pavilion yet, the portal in is at the wall nearest the WP by the balloon arrival platform. Go in that. The first time in you’ll get a story instance and some fighting. Once in the Pavilion itself, do as the others have said, go up a glass ramp from the outer circumference and you’ll see the glass bubbles.
Go to a Ringmaster by a bubble to queue for that bubble fight. A Fight Master will let you repeat fights you’ve won.
I don’t care about ascended gear, I don’t want infusions. So my 1st 100 went to the cat tonic, my next 75 to a puppy for RP for a character, and ever since then each 5 gets me 10 dyes to enjoy.
Well, I just got the torch in the Pavilion. I was scaled up to 80 but using my 53 mesmer.
Of interest! I was on my 53 Mesmer in the Pavilion and just got the Occult Flame off Spartacus (or whatever that boss’ name is).
So you don’t have to be a natural 80. And Pavilion champs will drop the new weapons.
That final one, the black and white, yes please! Before betas I was RPing my main with a landsknecht hat similar to that, albeit with multiple plumes. I have been saddened by the head gear actually available, especially the way it either shaves me or has a horrible neck flap to cover the shaving.
I recall asking for landsknecht outfits in beta. I’ll renew the request thanks to your post. Next issue: my main wears Medium armor. I’d dread this being only for Light.
I found a Stony Shield while hitting my 30 towers. He was in southern Sparkfly Fen. I never camped for a Tower Champion.
Though apparently there are five types and I’ve found three, hmm. Hammer, Whirling, and Stone. What are the other two?
There are quite a few bugged ones but still plenty for the achieve. I worked my way east through the Ascalon areas to finish out my 30 yesterday.
I never did get the chest by the Queensdale outpost, ah well. I don’t really need a few silver worth of greens. If there were an achieve for 100%ing the towers I’d be much more miffed.
The 3 jugs must have come from the F&F event. Chug those on an 80, they scale to level.
I know the rapier drops from Embroidered Coinpurses off of champ bandits. Anyone know if the one in Queensdale drops that? Or else maybe in CM?
I just saw a patch note from last night saying they’ve fixed the non-spawning pirates bug. So I’m back to worrying just about tower chests
I’m slightly opposite to Ohoni: I did a few zones of balloon towers. I could go to both towers in a zone and open the chest (or do the event to open the tower to get the chest). I zoned into Queensdale near the monastery by chance, and found the tower there, huzzah. Then there was an escort to the other tower, helpful as I hadn’t yet spotted it on the map. When I got to the tower by the little trading island south of Shaemoor Garrison, the chest was already open. I absolutely had not been near it yet post patch.
Also in Gendarren Fields last evening there was a huge red and black airship hovering over the meadows south of Ascalon Settlement with Aetherblade morale at 75% or so and no pirates in sight. Thus that tower remained locked out.
All this on Tarnished Coast.
Has anyone checked if guesting or alting lets you get at a tower your main couldn’t reach?
I killed one champ and got nothing but a vicious fang afaik. Then again I wasn’t told there was a chest to go loot until I was on the other side of the pavilion.
Anyone seen rapiers yet?
It’s ALWAYS the Chantry of Secrets.
No, the wallet will be like your laurels are now. I don’t know what the UI interface will be for access, but money and tokens and karma will just become numbers in a list and will be 100% available to each alt. The only way to keep money on an alt is not to log that alt in after the patch, which defeats the purpose.
If you want a gold stash for later, I suppose you could shift a ton of gold to a mule and then never log that mule until the moment you want the funds.
I understand that part. The question is how often you can qualify. Like on world bosses where you can only get the bonus chest once a day no matter how much you damage them the second time around. You don’t qualify for the bonus the second time you slaughter SB.
Note the huge caveat: “if you qualify” for the loot, you get the bag. No one’s said what qualifies you. There could be a bag limit per day.
I am a Kiel voter. But it was a hard choice to make. Never mind the keys/wps, neither of those affect me much (some, but not much). The difficulty came in having two very interesting fractals to choose from, having IC reasons on my main to vote for the honorable human, and having OOC interest in the likely more compelling and gritty story that an astute and somewhat shady trader would bring. Plus Evon realistically is much more a Lion’s Arch sort of guy.
What swung it was the initial impression based on all these forum discussions that Evon was such a shoo-in. I didn’t want to vote for the sure winner just to feel I was on the winning side. RL I’ve voted since 1983 and only rarely has my preferred candidate won. I’m used to voting on principle rather than to win! I dithered and dithered thanks to all that.
Then we got comments about Thaumanova being a very interesting fractal, and I already spend far too much on gems so I’d likely spend -more- getting keys to clear my backlog of chests, and it tipped over to Kiel.
Speaking of which, I have some tokens to take to the Sanctum now …
I have 2 80 Necros (just hit 80 on one of them last night), an 80 Mesmer, and am working on another Mesmer now who is 41 or so.
The necro is awesome for fast aoe, the tagging mentioned by Shyhalu. It also has a lot of fun skills and a variety of useful weapons. For dungeons, it can be a godsend thanks to the ability to strip conditions and eat them for health. One issue with the aoe (for me): it’s on the staff, where skills 2 to 5 are all ground targeted. I’m a mouse mover so my cursor’s all over the place and I have to stop and stand still to drop a targeted skill. So I’m far less mobile on my necros than my mesmers.
The mesmer is just flat out fun. My 80 got there without any RP at all when normally I need RP to make me engage in a character and want to get them levels and gear. My 41 I made for RP reasons to fit into ongoing guild plots but I’m really just having fun with her, and using a different alternate weapon set to try a different build. You can constantly be doing something on the mesmer, your downed skills are pure hax — sometimes you can kill something better when downed than when up! You have some useful group skills as well.
Try playing each one to 20 and see what’s intriguing you more. Or even to 40, mesmer shines as you advance where necro feels like more of the same as you go.
Oh, it’s not prices on your server. The TP is game wide.
Not that I know of. They have announced that all votes must be in by the 5th. So this weekend’s your last shot.
With Risen in this game, we’d be looking at a Zombie Jamboree, I fear.

Hey,
Logan fell in love with her when seeing her giant image projected in the sky over the arena where Destiny’s Edge was fighting many gladitorial combats.
She loves those things, or at least has a diplomatic reason to seem to.
I had an elementalist for my second character at launch. She is still 30 due so squishiness.
I thought I’d -never- want to play guardian. I tried it. Omg. Simple but versatile and the opposite of squishy! (not high dps though, but hey, if you outlive the enemy it’s a win even if it takes a tad longer).
Look through the sticky at the top of this forum, Tips For New Players. It’s gold.
The event release says “if you qualify” you get the champ loot. I have very little concern about T6 items, not intending to grind a legendary, but they have also said in a forum post that among the things that can drop off a champion is a rapier.
Hello.
Rapier.
Want.
Want several, for personal use, not for selling. Two for my new mesmer, one for my thief. Beyond that I have other guildies frothing at the mouth for them and if I got extras I would love to give them away to my friends.
So, do I get one chance a day at maybe having a rapier drop? Or can I go on a champion slaughtering spree with my guild and up those chances considerably?
You had similar inspiration to me. I went with a lighter blue, and only the coat rather than the full ensemble. I’m still fiddling (I’ve darkened the hem trim to a richer gold since these shots) but sticking with the Castle Falkenstein appearance for a little. Possibly I’ll revert the pants to Abyss because they are so poorly modeled at the crotch that I need to hide the detail there. Alas for most medium pants looking like tights! White dye was needful for any use of the Radiant pieces, as you can see.
Sorry for the dull colors in the in-game shot, it was night-time. My guildie in her Phoenix stuff has vividly blonde hair.
Oh, I agree, I am not going to buy a disposable. Again, I am merely curious as to what happens to the golems given to those who bought pricier versions of the game. I am not demanding that they become the 2 week version, either, I merely want to know.
IVIUIEI, you misunderstand. If you read the release notes, it says the golem persists for 2 weeks instead of the 4 days one can currently get. It’s not a golem you can only buy during a 2 week window.
Also, you get a golem free when you make a new alt, if you have the digital deluxe or the collector’s edition. So my query goes to whether that free golem will be the 2 week model or not.
I don’t make new alts so often but have been enjoying the heck out of constant bank access on a recently created RP character. It’s only for four days, however! Now that bank golems can last two weeks, will this apply to the golems created for upgraded accounts when alts are made?
What does it do? It puts a copy of that skin in your inventory so you can apply it to a weapon. You get infinite withdraws.
This assumes you have selected some skins, which you will see arrayed in the panel. Click on one, hit Withdraw, bam, you have a skin ready to use. If you have the armor pieces, they claim Heavy only in the panel but can be applied to Light and Medium in inventory.
I promise it’s fixed, I redid my sylvari last month from apple-red mushroom head to lichen-green forward-leaf-twist and her glow remains vivid.
Godslost Swamp in Queensdale. I can go there on my Necromancer, stand in the middle of the area behind the cabin, tap 3 on axe, and get something like 18% of the achieve in one second.
The critters do respawn, too. Still, it works best if no one else is clearing them, because there’s no way to share the kills. For a spot with no competition, try the southeast corner of Mount Maelstrom with all the little crabs. As a bonus, you have non aggro killable fish there, so you can get Ambient, Maguuman Killer, and Aquatic Slayer all at once.
It’s not a bag, it’s a reworking of currencies. If you read the release announcement it tells you that all these things will now work like gold does now, so just a number on a panel rather than a space-using item. And all your alts will be able to get at it as it will be one number for the account.
You will have to log in each alt at least once to add that alt’s currencies to the account pool.
I am in love with this new feature even without seeing it in action. The burning question: will the jugs we have still be useable afterwards, or would it behoove me to load up on boosts and chug the heck out of it? I have a necromancer a few levels from 80 that wants Temple gear and a lot of Warden weapons. I could have her go on a purple liquid drinking spree if need be, on the theory that she’ll get her goodies and the excess karma will be available to the rest of my characters come Tuesday.
8 would make sense, actually.
This one’s name is Skuub. He belongs to a guildie not in the cropped part of the pic since she was sitting almost normally on the other sofa.
