Um, RL politics shouldn’t get discussed in game forums, at least not with specific opinions about current politicians or parties. However, facts can be corrected. Joe Biden is the VP. Clinton was Secretary of State.

I’m wondering how accurate the Facebook exit polls are. Do they come straight from ANet with a feed on real time numbers, or are they based on a sample as RL ones are?

It might be a bit much to ask of you, but is there any chance you might be able to write a rough translation for those of us not able to speak Chinese? You obviously are fluent in English so I’d trust your translation.

I just got an Evon one in Queensdale at the bandits-blowing-up-pipes event. Handy, as I still have to do his Homeland stuff and shuffling buttons in and out of the bank for alts gets tedious.

Where are you seeing this? Could it be the scavenger hunt for sky crystals?

I’d love the option to play with friends. Perhaps achievements could be disabled in pre-made groups.

One issue: ANet doesn’t want us to have to wait for content until we can find enough people to play. Some of the minigames need a minimum number of participants. How do we deal with people getting upset they can’t play because one friend had to be out of game that evening?

It’s so much easier to complain than praise, that’s human nature (or else modern western culture nature). There have been things to complain about, indeed (slight dig here at that accursed dull grey emote text). But this is not that thread.

I have a friend who is a writer on ESO and has worked on two other MMOs before. I’ve heard his stories over the years. The amount of unwarranted bile tossed at any game design can embitter the nicest of people working heart and soul on making something good and fun. A few words of thanks can lighten their day or week tremendously.

So thank you ArenaNet. Thank you for making a game that isn’t perfect but is trying. A game that so exactly matches everything I’ve ever wanted in an MMO that I can’t stand playing anything else now. Thank you for caring about your product and having fun making it fun for us. Thank you for listening to us; I’m well aware you see a whole lot more of what we write than some believe thanks to the necessity that you not reply to most of it.

Thank you for creativity, artistry, and excellence. Thank you for continuing to adjust the game to match external feedback and internal analysis. Thank you for holding to your vision as best you can and giving us a game that has at least this player still solidly hooked after well over a year.

I think the OP is just asking about drop rates. I can’t answer to that as none dropped for me in a full run of both trials. Last night the pistol was under 50 gold and only 8 were up for sale. I am waiting, as I want a pair of pistols. And the spear (underwater bifrost!), the rifle, both bows (so pretty), the shield … egad I want a pile of these skins.

But the pistols will be my priority given the high price.

Arrrgh I just typed a paragraph on each alt and when I went to post it THAT was when the forum decided to make me re-log in. BAH.

Short form: I enjoy most of my characters a lot between fun PvE skills and interesting RP. I least enjoy my Norn Engi, Norn Ranger, and Charr Ele, between not enjoying the race as much and not liking the profession mechanics.

A bit off topic but I have a question on the scavenged goods. I’ve managed to pickpocket trap someone who dropped a zillion items. But when I picked up a plank it replaced my arrow on the hotbar. So how do you -use- alternate items at need? I found myself not picking up more stuff when I had an arrow equipped because I didn’t want to lose my arrow skills.

More on topic, as someone that usually dies darn fast in the game, I can say that spawning on top of someone has done me no good whatsoever. I have no motes, and by the time I gather enough to fuel just one skill the player is gone. If I track down a living player to bedevil, other mists are all over him/her already so I still get almost no impact.

That’s just me sucking at PvP, though.

Most every button I’ve seen on my server has been for Evon. Most every argument I’ve seen for picking sides has been for or against Evon, with no one having strong reasons to go with Kiel.

So from my PoV it sure looks like Evon is the shoo-in. However, my PoV is limited to a few dozen people observed who might very well just be sporting a button for the achieve before casting the rest of their votes for their true candidate. I am not a pollster or statistician. I’d imagine even they would need a bigger sample size than “I saw 50 Ellen buttons” when we have hundreds of thousands voting around the world.

I’d say rather than tying fractal choice to a candidate, they’ve used the election as the interface with the players to let us vote on our preferred fractal. My issue is more that we don’t have anything concrete, there’s just not enough data. So people are choosing based on a headline rather than an in depth analysis. How big are these promised discounts? What part of lore will be revealed in the fractal, what role will the players have? I wouldn’t want real spoilers, but -something- more than “pre-GW1 Abbadon” and “Reality turned inside out” might help make an informed decision.

I’ve gotten at least 6 kite fortunes today while doing Homeland Support for the candidates. They aren’t gone.

If you are on NA then you can guest over to Tarnished Coast. Even when I was -trying- to find an empty time (for the Sprint), we were chock full.

It’s the unofficial RP server, has been since beta, so the population is robust, active, and invested.

There are a number of PvP skins you cannot get in PvE, notably the Conquest hat and the Tribal light armor set.

At least with the hat (the Lionguard tricorn) you can spend a few badges of honor at your borderlands keep for the skin and then use it in PvE.

Maybe you can resize your minimap down a hair so the button will be lower on the screen. If the loot chest moves with it, then open the chest; you need to spend the second or two doing that anyway eventually so before or after you exit shouldn’t matter.

I’m pretty sure that is the GS skin from the vendor. You’ll need a token for it, a lucky drop, or 40-60 gold on TP (right now. Likely to be much less in a week).

Re rapier: The dev said s/he thought it would be in the next patch so I am crossing my fingers for 2 weeks from now.

36 chests got me 4 scraps and 8 tokens I believe. Also an Abyss Dye, BL Salvage kits, a makeover kit, etc. Also one extra key, which is why I opened 36 rather than 35.

In terms of scrap drop rate, I have now opened 36 boxes. Besides a number of the usual things (and a makeover kit and an Abyss dye OMG), I got 4 scraps, and 6 vote tokens.

I fenced all through college and for a year thereafter, I have a few swept hilt rapiers RL, I love the Three Musketeers (Michael York version, please) and swashbuckling. I am drooling for a rapier for my dashing Thief. It speaks to a whole genre that most MMOs lack.

I’m not at all surprised so many want them so very much.

I’m curious how long the gem shop tends to be down after patches like this. I haven’t paid much attention before but I don’t have long left today to be at my computer and I really want to try for a rapier if that’s going to be possible.

We don’t know you can only get one scrap per box, though likely that’s so.

Others have posted that Aetherblade and Aetherized are two different types of weapons. The sword in that image is likely the Aetherized one, judging by the greatsword seen in the live stream preview of the minigames. Aetherblade will hopefully include the rapier and the steam pistol.

I know I just spent a pittance of silver on a stack of 250 BLC chests because I want several rapiers and pistols. I may not open all of them — there is a limit to my willingness to spend money in the gem store without reward — but if the tokens drop enough, I’ll get the keys to get more. With tradeable skins I can help my more indigent guildies get theirs as well, assuming that in fact we can get the steam weapons thusly.

I hope it’s soon. Tuesdays I have to leave the computer at 5:30 eastern and not return to it until much later or on Wednesday. I’d love some time to explore the patch before I have to go. Right now I have three hours, plenty of time. Two hours will work. One hour I’ll just be getting into things when I have to go …

I thought they’d changed dives so you could stay in your skivvies and goggles, as each time I’ve jumped at Best Dive Ever that has happened. I didn’t resume armor until I used a skill or grabbed a power crystal.

But I just checked in LA and got the usual return to full armor when I hit the water from the high dive.

It would be great to keep the look until combat happens. Beach parties!

It does make it a practice round if you are too late an entry. If you’re running several races in a row, you’re going to have to wait for the timer anyway, so an extra two minutes at the start shouldn’t matter in the long run.

If you can’t spare two minutes of your time, you likely don’t have time to play the game anyway.

One caveat: If you want the Grandmaster’s skill, you have to beat the Hylek in the Cliffs before the Sanctum departs. So you have to do all 5 other masters and then him, and each alt of yours that wants it has to do that.

Check the sticky “If I only knew this” at the top of this forum for a LOT of helpful hints. I have two necromancers, so you can whisper me in game with specific questions. Warning, I’m no theorycrafter. I can give you layman’s info, not esoteric min-max build advice.

What exactly is “Top Checkpoint?” I have gotten it a few times but I’ve only once placed top 3 (got 2nd place this morning) and never first, so it’s not tied to that.

As to the shortcut, now that I know about it I might be sorely tempted if I’m in 2nd and get to that spot. I would like to win just once.

I’ve bonded with at least five of my characters thanks to role play. The game facilitates that a great deal with all the pretty stuff and the great amount of detail, but most of it comes from sandbox storylines with my guild. (wtb more RP support — chair sitting, colorful emote text, more animated emotes and poses, more dances Tyrians would actually dance, etc!).

I am not a musician. I cause san loss when I try to make music with voice or instrument RL and I have only the most rudimentary idea of how to read sheet music. But I’ve been able to get some nice tunes on the flute thanks to all of you.

Formatting! I, the horrible non-musician, have found the ones done in this format the easiest to touch-type and produce ( the below is not an actual tune, just the idea of how to type one):

Where a plain number is the lower octave and anything in parentheses is the higher one. That way each time I see a ( or a ) I know it is time to tap the 9 and it stands out as not being a note, plus sequences clearly show which octave they are in. And a space means let the note hang a moment before hitting the next one.

You’ll get them! We’ve been getting them once a day to make up for the backlog of points gained in previous play. They are retroactive rewards, but will always be there for new players.

Take a look at cultural armor, pvp armor, and so forth.

The armor on the end of your image is not available to players. Countess Anise in DR wears the top and we have been asking for a year to have it available.

You also can get 6 pieces of exotic armor practically free. Karma’s so easy to get now thanks to dailies and monthlies, just save that up. 42K karma per armor piece at any Orr temple and you’re set.

This guide http://dulfy.net/2012/09/08/gw2-templegod-karma-armor-sets/ will tell you which temple has which stats on which pieces if you want to plan it more carefully than just having level 80 exotics. The skins are the same throughout the temples. The temple does have to be open on your server; you can check an open-temple-listing site if you need to guest over to the one you want.

You mean the thing with a table, a keg, and a fireworks launcher? My guild’s put one of those up in the Wolf Lodge in Hoelbrak, so you may have encountered a bug rather than a game design.

It’s a scroll that will auto-level a character to 20 if they are under 20 when using it. So those at max 80’s can’t use it.

I actually -like- leveling, getting the map unfogged as I go. So even if I do have an alt I want to level, I’m not likely to use the scroll. Still I can see it as quite the boon for those weary unto death of the starting areas. Though for those saying hold onto it for when a new race comes out — do you really want to skip all the new stuff at the start? I know I don’t!

Or maybe people could get the achieve thanks to nice people and then keep on competing to see if they could get it for real, with less anxiety and pressure?

I finally got top 3 this morning, coming in 2nd. I haven’t lucked into any groups with people holding back at the finish line yet. I can’t blame latency or lag on my fails, it’s all on me being a slow reflexes person and not fully understanding what the various pick up skills do. I still don’t know what the “shortcut” is, though maybe I’m taking it without knowing.

One thing on Pickup Completionist: I’ve read that you have to actually hit another player with the skill. So make sure someone’s near you when you hit the key. Make sure to use Grounded whenever — that was my 6th one that I didn’t notice I had for quite a few races.

Well, it’s in Kryta for exploration purposes, but politically it is an independent entity, preserved thus by Cobiah Marriner’s lifetime of effort. Kryta’s Queen has no authority over LA.

I am very worried by “might have a rare chance.” My thief needs a rapier and two steam pistols. I will become a sword thief if I get that rapier. I have guild mates who need a rapier to look right — one of them even drew her mesmer with a rapier eerily close to the aether design long before the skypirates were even announced.

Previous new weapon and armor skins have been interesting but they have been mere variations on the general style. The rapier is qualitatively different. It should be available by means other than pure luck.
