Fractals

Ethics has it right. Also, the best way to find out if you can handle them is to try them, preferably with friends or with people willing to act as friends for the run. As long as you can jump and dodge and fire off skills, all that being the most basic of PvE game play in GW2, you should be fine.

I’m not great at twitch reflexes and I certainly don’t want to get into the Agony grind so I cap my fractals at level 9 or 10. I failed the Clocktower for 6 or 7 hours before I gave up. I do have a good computer and FiOS so it’s only my skill in the way of me succeeding. Still, I generally feel that if I can handle content, most anyone else can as well.

Again, give it a try. Let the group know in advance that you have a physical handicap. Use voice chat if possible. You might have fun!

Note: If you get the Swamp fractal and have movement control issues, don’t be one of the orb runners. Otherwise you should be able to soldier through all the instances.

That’s super nice of you, Falunel. I’m on TC, so if you want a deputy question-fielder or exploration aider, check with me. I’m on a lot and my guild tends to come on pretty late eastern time, so my days could use purpose

Played since beta, 7 80s and more on the way, only ranger and eng not at 80, master crafter so can make bags for new players to help them just enjoy exploring. I’m fine with guesting though I think it makes sense for the new players to come see TC so they can be in a crowd.

You only ever get one Rytlock mini, but the Hero’s Ring and Banker Golem will appear on every alt you ever make. At least they do for me, I have the CE.

Bonus: The golem now lasts for 2 weeks rather than the original 4 days. Mine just ran out and my guardian was 60 when it did. Very handy having that thing around for leveling in the wilds!

I’m all for it IF it’s optional. Or if we can have a hide all weapons toggle. My characters don’t always have any weapons visible, let alone every blade s/he has concealed here and there. Sure, I can just manually disarm all four of them (using bag space) and then manually put them back on when the RP is done, but that’s hardly QoL.

I don’t want to be festooned with weapons. Heck, I generally RP that my secondary set just aren’t there. My Thief is a bladesman who hates pistols, my Mesmer has her pair of rapiers and no greatsword, my Warrior does GS only (ignore that there rifle, it’s not IC), etc.

Emote Range.. :3

in Suggestions

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I didn’t realize the range had expanded. I agree, it should be the same as /say. Now, I don’t mind that you can “hear” every emote a party member makes zone wide; that can even be used to enhance RP and is restricted to 5 people that chose to be grouped.

Right now if you stand in the LA bank by one of the back tellers you can hear RP emotes from the Crow’s Nest. I know this game pays attention to vertical distance, just look at underwater combat. Emotes should not carry that far.

I’m still daydreaming of an MMO that lets solid walls block /say and /em. With allowances for windows and doors. While I’m fine with ignoring things my character couldn’t realistically hear or see, not everyone divorces character knowledge from meta knowledge.

Lionguard keeping an eye on Twilight Arbor?

in Twilight Assault

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

The Lionguard have been in Caledon from game start. They have a number of forts there. Given that LA is smack dab in the middle of Maguuma, it makes sense for them to have outliers as a screen against things coming out of the jungle or sea. Remember, while the current LA started as a pirate run trading post, it also rose from the floodwaters thanks to Cobiah Marriner’s determination to forge a force able to withstand the Risen threat. Also it became a political force holding its own against Kryta’s attempt at assimilation. So it’s going to act in ways governments do, including sticking military force in places not technically under its jurisdiction.

If something’s stirring at TA, it’ll focus Lionguard attention. However, they aren’t there only because of TA.

my thoughts on the new dye pack

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I did buy one pack just in case, and got a nice dye from it but not the limited greens. That’s enough RNG for me even though the high contrast greens do look lovely. I may or may not scrape up the gold for one on the TP.

I’d love account bound dyes, but I have to warn you all of the other edge of that sword — when they were account bound in beta, they were also not tradeable. You’d have to just hope for a lucky drop for your characters. The devs decided to make them tradeable so you could go for the ones you wanted, but extended the collection time by converting them to character bound.

She outlives most anything and protects her friends very well.

Donari.5237

I admit I haven’t tried very hard to find a Teq fight since I got a win and the title. But I do want to! I just don’t want to spend 5 hours at a stretch on it. It needs to, somehow, some way, work that people can go to it when they know it’s about to start and put in their 15 minutes and be done, win or lose. Preferably win.

I don’t give a fig about the loot, I’ve never chased random loot in GW2 (though a chest per 25% is actually nice, but for me it needn’t have anything in it worth linking in map chat). But if I want to be doing dailies or a dungeon or RP, I can’t be stuck in Sparkfly for 5 hours as I was the day I got the kill and title.

Having the world-wide announcement that Teq was attacking was pretty useful. I could check the UI any time I felt like maybe going to Sparkfly instead of hanging around checking map chat for estimates of the next spawn window. Why was that removed?

New skills and weapons for professions will be plenty interesting. I’m keen to see how they change up what they did last year for Mad King and Wintersday.

I recommend editing your title to what’s left for rather than what’s left of. The wording you have gives a negative connotation that suggests there’s not much left of what GW2 was supposed to be. I almost didn’t read the thread because I thought it was another trashing the game post. How refreshing to find someone positive on the forums! I look forward to more optimism.

Respawn, check the guide also posted in this forum. Defenders should rush in to stack on the zerg and dps during the stun, but be ready to break away (watch out for waves and whirlpools) either just before the stun ends or just as it does, so as to hurry back to your defense position before the mobs return.

in Tequatl Rising

Donari.5237

A minor bit I learned in a series of Tarnished Coast fights yesterday: Turret Defenders need to prioritize mobs. Intercept them well away from the turrets, keep an eye out for fingers spawning while dealing with the mobs. Champions eat up your combat resources, so kite them away from turrets while other defenders kill the smaller attackers. Grubs are nasty. They fling poison all over. A champion grub is urgent to deal with (we had one attempt that was solid except for a champ grub nomming the southeast turrets to death).

Boss Achievements

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

You can tell they are permanent because they are down in the Boss section instead of in the Living Story section. Kick for inactivity

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

What do you suggest for people who are being very active but are on their third Teq attempt for the day (do the math on the hours) and really have to eat something or faint? That was me today. I left for under twenty minutes to chow down, got back before my screen saver even kicked in. 5 minutes wouldn’t have let me do that and I prefer not to have food in my computer area.

The time to kick is less than the over an hour to respawn, anyway. I’d be much more in favor of what others have suggested: a couple of warning ready checks with boots for people that don’t respond to them within a 5 minute window before spawn. That way players needn’t be chained to their keyboard for an hour of nothing happening but can come back when the window starts so they don’t miss a ready check.

That’s on general principle. TC killed him today after I stuck it out for the 4 fights, and I got the meta, so I’ll only be fighting him for fun in the future. I still don’t think anyone should be forced to stay in one place for hours just to keep their place in a fifteen minute fight. That’s not healthy.

8/10. I’d give it more except I generally figure the name you were born with isn’t generally an indicator of your profession. It’s a good name, though. If he chose his own last name as part of his backstory, then 10/10. It’s a believable name for Tyria.

I have:
Donari Mal di Bette — nobleman. Thief profession. Charming con man type.

Mirth the Mouse — street rat warrior. Born Eilen Drury. Picked up “Mirth” for never smiling and “Mouse” for always creeping unnoticed around the edge of things. She doesn’t start fights, but she finishes them.

Jin Macklin — commoner necromancer. Of Canthan descent, Jin being a family heirloom name as it were, but culturally integrated into Krytan society.

Salvina Lucia Bette (would be di Bette but too long) — Donari’s sister, goes by “Lucy” to close friends. Mesmer in game, icly just a sword/pistol user. She needed light armor clothing

David Raffino — commoner guardian, currently being leveled, generally called Rafe or Raffy. Made him as a plot hook for a guildie’s character but he’s fun to play.

Wow, I thought I had it bad when they delayed delivery of my cd’s from the promised date before launch to the week -of- launch when heck no I wasn’t going to sit listening to them instead of playing the game. Their support answers on it were almost nonexistent, and when I did get answers they were generic cut and paste not responding to a thing I was saying (and I was saying everything very politely, simply inquiring as to verification that they had received my order and hoping they might give me an intended shipping date. You know, stuff that any merchant really owes information on to customers).

I know they are mostly a classical music distributor. I listen to classical. I’ll -never- order from them again unless they happen to be the only possible source of something I really want, such as the GW2 soundtracks were.

I don’t think I had actual email with them. Their own site right now essentially says email is slow and worthless and don’t bother them with it. I hope you get some sort of satisfaction.

Apparently ANet still believes DirectSong has the set on sale, per
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/shop/guild-wars-2-original-game-soundtrack/
though I am sure Soule’s signature is no longer part of the deal. Pity, it’s a lovely glyphic sort of signature and was in thick gold ink on mine.

Imo as long as you don’t say the -player- sucks for playing the race your character hates, it enriches the world. Keep ooc communication going so they know it’s specific to the character, don’t use the in game race as an excuse to grief on a meta level, and you should be good.

It’s under Living World, first of the four categories therein. It’s not too hard — find all the dragon bits in 3 zones, and a footprint. Talk to Rox in Sparkfly. Do three dailies specific to the Boss Week (they will be listed in the Dailies set; for the next three hours the daily is Here Be Dragons! which means participating in the Tequatl encounter.

Dulfy has a guide as to where the teeth, scales, and crystals are so you can just port around and run to them rather than scouring the zone yourself.

Bungee Jumping

in Suggestions

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Here’s a thought on a new variation on jumping mechanics: bungee cords. I have two ways in mind this could work (please feel free to point out how it could be abused so precautions can be devised).

One: general PVE. Using a bungee cord would mean having a safety line for a jump. This would let you practice tricky jumps but would haul you back to your point of origin after a moment, so you have to ditch the cord to actually proceed in the jump. Or you could jump off a height and get yanked back up, for the simple fun of the act.

Two: specific points in dungeons or puzzles. You would interact with the point to get a cord on you, and use it to descend. In this version, you’d have to cut yourself free at the right moment to get to the destination. So it would be a sort of reverse jump puzzle, with descent rather than ascent as the goal. Like a jump pad, only dropping you instead of flinging you.

Source of the cords for general PvE: Crafting them would be fun, or a karma vendor perhaps. Gem Store would be less good, depending on pricing.

Duration: The cord could be an infinite use item, or have charges, or just be a one-shot consumable. The last option would reduce spam use of it and ensure people only do “practice” shots on truly hard jumps. (Naturally any variation of this would not help with timed jump puzzles).

Perhaps it shouldn’t be available in WvW due to odd scouting uses (or should be, to enhance things). Perhaps all skills and utilities should be disabled while corded so you can’t plummet, shoot something, and retract to your safe ledge, and the cord could not be used in combat with or without abilities enabled.

Just a wild idea I had when I woke up this morning

How can I toggle "Daily Tasks"?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Several ways exist. The simplest if slightly clunky way is to open your hero panel and click the achieve tab. Click on Dailies/Monthly on the left, then on Dailies from the drop down. That opens the panel full of daily tasks, and you can click the little eye icon on each of the 5 you want to track.

You can have tracking on more than 5 but I think only 5 will show up on your UI at a time, and the ones you have the most done on will be at the top. Once you hit 100% on one and want to remove it, you can click on that one on the UI to open the panel and toggle off the eye.

I watched the live stream demo. There are plenty of mobs; they attack necessary tools such as the hylek cannons, which are needed to keep his bone walls down. Since there is a timer to defeat him, and those walls eat up a chunk of time if they go up, support fighting is almost more crucial than hitting the dragon itself. Also there will be jump platforms to quickly move to crisis areas in the battle.

What I haven’t discerned from what I’ve seen is if one can get gold credit without ever touching Tequatl directly. I sure hope so.
