wait were was it stated that light armor classes have a higher time to get cloth?

It was part of a big feature patch at some point, where they said your loot would be weighted based on your profession so you’d be more likely to get stuff you could use. There was a lot of outcry about this as people wanted to farm silk for damask patches and not have to be on a Light profession to do it.

I have no idea if this actually took effect at any point. I’ve never noticed any skewed distribution of armor weights depending on my profession, so it certainly wasn’t “you will ONLY get this weight.”

Living Story Achievement Question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I think there are two different things colliding here, so I’ll explain the process overall in case you misunderstood something:

1) Gain access to the chapter.
2) Play the chapter on whatever alt you like.
3) Complete the chapter including getting the final rewards.
4) Replay the chapter with the exact same alt, this time working on the achieves.

To replay it you go into your PS panel and select that chapter then click to Play This.

Getting the crystals is just part of progressing through the story, not the later achieve replay (though you have to do it to play through for achieves).

If you are on NA and play during the hours I do I would be willing to go in with you to help lead you through it.

I don’t know SAB well enough to form a solid opinion on whether your proposal would enhance or eviscerate it. I do, however, question the usefulness of a mastery track one can take advantage of less than three weeks a year given how much complaining there has been on the difficulty of getting enough mastery points in Core Tyria for the tracks already in place.

You did say “make it permanent” but apparently that part won’t happen because SAB breaks when larger patches hit so they aren’t going to fix it except for its festival time.

Ranger Pet Botting?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Huh. I would have thought that was not acceptable game play — just look at all the issues with rangers at SW forts. At one point I found a necromancer surrounded by minions in a Jotun camp, clearly afk, and safe even from the veteran Jotun spawn. At another I saw a less efficient reaper afk amongst Nightmare Court autofiring Gravedigger. That one died pretty easily but people kept rezzing her as they didn’t know she was afk. Both left a sour taste in my mouth.

As to the loot disappearing — not any more. Not if you have Pact Commander.

Outfit dyes still global

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I’d also like them saved. As it is now I keep an Outfit Dyes Word document, sorted out by alt name, and any outfit I’m likely to have them don next gets a list of the colors used. At least I can swap semi-quickly by checking my list and typing in the dye names in the search field, but it’s a far cry from one-touch swapping. I also tend to find a dye scheme that works well enough across multiple outfits for one alt so I get a few things I can change them to without having to hunt and peck the dye choices. I * the ones that they might actually wear other than as a player joke. Some alts get a scheme for every outfit, others just the ones I didn’t wince and toggle off the moment I saw them worn. I also tend to certain hue palettes for each alt.

eg

Ylfa Aetlaveidr
Balthazar – Pyre, Bronze, Abyss, Any
Bandit — Midnight Rust, Bronze (a green hue), Marine, Ivory
*Cooks – Midnight Rust, Bronze (a green hue), Marine, Ivory
Daydreamer – Midnight Olive, Butterscotch, Pyre, Lemon Zest
Exemplar – Antique Gold, Mohair, Midnight Red, Lemon Zest
Gwen – Lemon Shade, Bronze, Midnight Fire, Cocoa
Imperial — Midnight Rust, Bronze (a green hue), Marine, Ivory
*Ironclad — Midnight Rust, Bronze (a green hue), Marine, Ivory
*Jungle Explorer – Glint’s Isolation, Tarnished Silver, Pine, Dark Olive OR Midnight Rust, Bronze (a green hue), Marine, Ivory
Mad Scientist — Midnight Olive, Butterscotch, Pyre, Lemon Zest
*Monk – Glint’s Isolation, Lemon Tint, Midnight Yew, Shadow Green
Noble Count – Midnight Rust, Bronze, Marine, Ivory
Raiment of the Lich — Midnight Rust, Bronze, Marine, Ivory
Royal Guard – Glint’s Isolation, Tarnished Silver, Glint’s Isolation, Dark Olive
*Wedding – Shadow Red, Ivory, Lemon Zest, Midnight Olive

(I specify Bronze is in the Green section because I began this before we got a search field on dyes and it was easier to leave it in).

It actually surprises me that people hold the spacebar for so long when they jump where this is an issue. It sounds a bit harsh, but at the end of the day it’s not a problem with the game, it’s just the user and it’s something they can easily correct

Except that I can’t. The trigger is so sensitive that if I give a full press to the space bar and release immediately, the glider still sometimes deploys. Maybe it’s my keyboard, which is a very nice Razer mechanical one. It’s not like I’m holding the bar down for seconds at a time. If I give a solid press, it’s enough to make the game think I want the glider. Which, most of the time, I do; just not when making a tricky short hop onto a tiny pole.

No it isn’t. The staircase was made out of 382 clouds the last time I checked it in our GH. It starts right in the center of the GH south of the central WP. The path to the “updraft vent” (the one that vanishes when you get close or after a while watching it) is half way up the staircase.
The sandy area you see is on top of the rock formation that creates the ceiling for the mining area. You can easily hit invisible walls that are the boundaries of the rectangular box that surrounds the complete Gilded Hollow map.

In that case I’m amazed because that sky and rock texture made me think it was an actual photo of a mountain top with the clouds pasted in!

Gwen’s Attire — Outfit — 700 gems — dye channels on female are undertunic, corset/boots/gloves, bosom cover, and tights. On male: Mask/skirt, collarpiece/armband/gloves/boots/girdle/skirt panels and lining, shirt, pants. Female charr wear male version, it has physics for the butt flap over the base of the tail. Female asura also wear the male version. Male sylvari get a slim fit in the skirt, not a big bell for once.

Oh, Zoltar, on the tapping to close the glider — try hitting back peddle instead, if you have lean techniques. That has you slowly go straight down while still gliding. It’s very useful for landing on small spaces and gives you more time to steer to make sure you don’t miss your mark.

Yes this bothers me as well, I’m noticing my server seems dead these days as well, keeps asking me to jump servers because no one is in them…

That’s not your server, that’s you landing in an empty map. There is only one server for each region now, other than in WvW. But the problem there lies in a buggy implementation of the mega server map spawns; plenty of threads have commented on how it could work better to put people in fuller maps and not move them to maps that are soon going to close.

The last time I answered this question I said I would prepurchase unless my finances had completely tanked. That was before the legendary announcement. Even though I’m mostly done with HOPE, my first legendary ever, and would not necessarily have felt the urge to repeat such a project any time soon, the situation seems to have taken some of the fun out of play for me. And my primary RP buddy who bought HoT specifically for the legendaries hasn’t been around much either.

So now I will probably prepurchase because that’s the sort of thing I do, but not in the first 30 seconds it’s available like I did for HoT. I’m going to want to ascertain a lot more about what will actually be in the expansion and whether my friends will be playing before I commit any funds to it.

I’m not in the high end of “skilled” when it comes to keyboard dancing. Even when I’m concentrating on releasing the space bar fast while still doing all the other little things I need to do for a micro-jump my glider sometimes deploys. If it doesn’t, I still had to add one more move to my jump, the quick-release.

I’m not holding the space bar down like I used to but the game still seems to trigger the glider for a fraction of a second longer tap than the quickest lift of my thumb. So perhaps a slider setting to tell the game how long we want to have to hold the bar to get that deploy? If it has to be welded to the jump key, anyway? (In the careful what I ask for department: If changes are made to allow separate hotkey for jump and glide, please allow them to still share the same key if desired by the player).

(Idea) Glider skills

Donari.5237

Oh, I don’t know, Zoltar. About the negation being an issue, I mean. Diligent perusal of my prolific postings will show how very strongly I felt about falling damage traits being must-haves in any build I used (and that I would have liked them made baseline to permit more flexibility in trait line choice).

Then they gave us gliding everywhere.

And now I cheerfully ditch the fall damage traits. Can I go splat? Yes, if I screw up my depth perception and hit my space bar too late. But thanks to my glider, falling to my death is rather rare. I’d say a more compelling reason not to get that “batman” skill is that it takes all the fun out of timing deployment just right via skill (assuming no lag/ping issues).

Could be amusing if it was combined with the asked-for glider toggle for JP’s … someone used to being automatically saved forgets to be careful when s/he toggled off the glider and becomes a pancake … /giggles with schadenfreude

It’s much better, imo, to have the old LA for this. When they announced the plan to implement that, there was much rejoicing! Talk about a disconnect … and now LA’s terrain is substantially altered, so the NPC pathing in the PS would have to be completely redone.

I have not seen the decorations besides the clouds yet as my scribe is still low. It’s a shame that the scribe changes are still a few weeks away as I could have levelled up some to get to those new decorations, oh well only a few more weeks!

In the meantime however I did unlock about 60-ish clouds so far. With those I have managed to add a duel winding staircase in the front of our guild. Imagine walking into a large house with the typical winding staircase up and the typical chandelier above. That’s kind of how it looks lol, the basic flagpoles make good support beams.

I’m making a stairway to heaven :p Time to get more coins

Haha that was my first thought/attempt too, just a shame we can’t recolour the clouds.

I now have officially the highest point in our hall… I should find some recording software and record the glide down… It takes about 3 and a half minute. And gliding in first person is simply awesome.

Perhaps you should tell us which email this is, sir? I am the last one to point fingers at failure to respond to emails, as I myself am a terrible correspondent, nor do I expect you to answer every message from thousands or millions of players. Thus I am not particularly perturbed at the lack of response to my forum PM sent to you the day you posted this thread over a week ago. (Darn this text format, I am sure someone will think my tone is snippy, I assure you it is not).

However, when you say you are available, that suggests you mean more than “messages may be sent to me,” and that you might, in fact, acknowledge they were sent even if merely with a boilerplate “message received, thank you for your input.” Therefore I consider it possible that you meant some other email address even though you did not provide one, and that PMs on this forum do not catch your eye.

Would you be willing to clarify what you meant by that line?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Donari.5237

It’s a comfort zone thing. I have a minimum — it fluctuates, actually, if there’s a time when I have more gold on hand then I raise my reserve amount. But when I was doing a resource intensive part of HOPE I dipped waaaaaaay below it, down to the point I couldn’t buy some TP things I might want or eke out extra gems for a new offering.

I think what it does is say “you need this much for sudden expenses, if any, so anything beyond that is mad money you don’t have to feel guilty about spending.” Then when there is a real need for something you use the reserve, and don’t feel guilty because that’s exactly why you were saving it.

I am amazed at Flesh’s 500 gold level for that. But then some people do manage to save up a lot of gold … they’re the ones that can get perma hair kits, I guess.

I think it could have been ready but they delayed it to give people a grace period to earn the masteries needed. Try fighting Gorseval without gliding/updrafts … (at a guess. I have not seen that boss. Could be doable without?). At least they did state that as a reason at the time.

SAB stand alone game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Reikken likely has the best answer there. I mean, think about it. Yes, SAB seems to be its own contained thing — but you are playing your GW2 character, same looks, movement, etc. So this “stand alone” would need full character creation support, wardrobe, etc.

Better to just start a free character and head into Rata Sum if SAB is all you want to play. At least, during the 19 days of the festival.

As far as i can remember, i never one played SAB because of how my character looks in it.
I have actually considered starting to work on an SAB clone, so maybe i ll get around to doing that. If they dont let us have it, then ill make my own SAB, with blackjack and bookahs.

My point wasn’t the need for fashion but that SAB uses a lot of the main game’s physics and coding and that might not be easy to extract for a separate stand alone. If you need that much of the game anyway, why not just take a free character in to play? If you don’t care about looks you can Skip to End in creation and get something totally random.

Compensation regarding scribe/decorations?

Note that we have had some heads up that costs would be changing:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Scribing-Costs/first posted a month ago as a followup to Guild Chat comments from 2 months ago as referenced in https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Anet-to-reduce-decoration-scribe-cost

So that further complicates any compensation considerations as we’ve known for two months that the costs would be coming down at some point — once one’s on notice that it will cost less later and one still spends one’s resources now, isn’t that a choice one made? How does ANet determine when the expenses happened?

You need 5 incandescent dust (double check me on wiki on that) and 2 of the one-step-lower tier of gemstone. Shards? Crystals? So eg 2 beryl crystals and 5 dust gets you 1 beryl orb.

You can get more precise details if you look on the wiki under amalgamated gemstone then click on one of the orb links and look at acquisition.

It’s still one heck of a lot of mystic forge use to end up with 250 amalgamateds ><

Donari.5237

You know if you’re hitting something because a number will pop up at the point of impact, regardless of range and in front of all intervening models and particle effects. You don’t need the combat log.

This is the point I wanted to make, so I’m pulling it out to highlight it. If all you are trying to see is if you hit your target, those floating numbers indicate the hit.

It’s not easy to see chat during combat when you’re focusing on the fight, but if you’re able to look at your combat tab, you’re able to look at Map chat. I did Shatterer last night and people were trying to take down the blue bar by setting a time frame for everyone going to the pads. It worked the first time, even, though sadly he flew up the next two times.

Even if you’d been told in advance “there will be a time when everyone who can get to a launch pad should so they can be ready to fly when the blue bar appears,” knowing exactly when that moment comes isn’t something you can figure out as someone new to the fight without seeing the calls for “to the pads!”

Let's talk about Amalgamated Gemstones.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I know I did say “tedious and expensive” but for me the emphasis is on tedious. I can slowly buy the things over time like I did the components for Nightfury. However first I will use up my 3 years of orb accrual. There’s the tedious part, all that mystic forge dragging and dropping. There’s something wrong with my mouse set up that makes double clicking rather hard; I think I have the sensitivity high enough (to facilitate camera pans and mouse steering and getting my cursor to my other monitor with small mouse movements) that the pressure of the click moves the mouse a little so it doesn’t register the second click as a double. I’d have to lose a lot of QoL to fix that one issue.

So promoting lower tiers to orbs, and pulling stacks of three things to the forge to make 249 amalgamateds will be painful. (249 because I made one already to test the mix and match of the stacks of three). Also it will use up years of gathering to make less than a third of what I need for the ingots. I would certainly hate to consume all my resources and wear out my right forearm and then have them reduce the requirements two days later.

This is why I am asking not for details — heck, for all I know they’ll raise the requirements using ANet logic — but just an indication if any change is even being considered for the April patch. Open communications and all that. Even if they are considering a change but it won’t be in this month, then I’ll go ahead and make my ingots under the current system. I just don’t want to burn my bridges needlessly.

Donari.5237

Apparently my asking for a dev quote from Reddit addressing the amalgamated gemstones was off topic to the dev quotes from Reddit thread. Fair enough. This thread is the closest I can find to the topic, so here is my post again:

The dev quote I’m looking for is the one that says y/n to plans to change the amalgamated gemstone recipe or requirements. I am perilously close to having only 249 amalgamated gemstones between me and HOPE (8 more PS runs through Buried Insight, 97 more crystalline ore, and a hunk of obsidian shards I can karma-buy, then all the amalgamateds). I find myself doing things other than playing GW2 because I am hanging fire on that decision from the Legendary team.

I don’t need to know what the change will be, just will there be a tweak to the recipe in the April patch or not? If not, I’ll start the tedious and expensive process of creating those gemstones and making my ingots, because dang but I want my pretty pistol. Same way MO gave a heads up on the fractal and wvw changes, this is a possibly imminent change that affects game play. I know there have been some Reddit and ANet forum threads asking this but I do not know if there has been a dev comment since the original “we’re looking into it” a while back.

So if anyone has found a dev comment on changes to amalgamated gemstones, lay it on me, please.

I do recommend that people go in game and preview the dyes in their hero panel on their preferred armor before making their final selection of which one to unlock. I haven’t tried to beat that adventure since I got my Silver for the collection. What I recall was that it was a combination of reasonable RNG in my one silver success, remembering to check both minimap and eyeball view for where the next blue icon was and racing to it without a pause to orient myself, getting a feel for which mushroom took me where, using gliding and lean techniques as much as possible, and being willing to take a hunk of damage dropping a distance to a mushroom to get to it faster (might want to put on fall damage reduction to help with that).
