Eh, I’ve only gotten two T4’s in VB thus far. The event chains can be done with a handful of people — not all of them simultaneously, but two or three people can for example push the Faren chain all the way to the wyvern. Nighttime events are even easier, as they aren’t chains. Pick a camp to defend, escort soldiers, keep up your participation, check in Map for which boss folks are fighting and you will get the crowbars and the currency.
Of the four maps, VB is the easiest to join at any point of the cycle, no matter how empty the map, and make some personal progress.
VB is the easiest map to get map currency in, by far. Maybe that’s because it’s the map I use(d) to explore for each profession elite weapon, maybe because you get a ton of crowbars from map participation and can then use those on the scads of cargo that drop which offer loot and currency (also if you have Nuhoch hunting, doing events gets you loot off mobs that includes the Nuhoch bags of map-specific currency). In any case I routinely have thousands of airship parts even after buying all the bits I needed for each of 8 elite weapons.
For parking an alt, though, and not actually playing the map to gain the currency? Yeah, I don’t think VB is designed for that.
Speaking of that Guild Chat, I think this is what it will be:
http://schedule.sxsw.com/2016/events/event_PP92700
Tonight (March 12-13, 2016) is the night much of the US sets clocks forward one hour. So as of tomorrow evening, if you are one of the clock-changers, your daily reset time will be an hour later on the clock (eg 8 pm eastern instead of 7 pm). If you aren’t one of the clock-changers, be advised your friends who are may have an hour’s change in when they are available for raids etc after work or class.
And if you like to watch Guild Chat, it will be rather later this Friday since they said it would air from South by Southwest at 12:30 pacific, rather than noon, thus for non-clock-changers the stream will begin 1.5 hours later than you would normally expect by your own clock. If I did my mental math right on that, anyway.
If I’m well enough to be in game this evening (eastern time, NA), I’d be fine with leading you around. Probably on my alt that already has it completed, and I don’t have it memorized so we’ll hit some dead ends, but as I’ve done the whole thing once I know I can manage it again.
However I have had a sick headache a few days and may not be around if that doesn’t improve.
The mastery makes it easy but it is not required. All it requires is spamming the heal skill(or setting it to autouse) and a bit of math. I forget the percent the skill heals you for but you just need to start spamming the heal a bit before you have lost that amount of health.
I’ve tried it a lot, and I’m fairly sure it’s impossible without very specific circumstances. I mean, there are various class buffs that would make heal more effective, stat loadouts, alacrity, etc., but for most classes I don’t think you can just roll in there and “do it right” to pass it. I would recommend doing the combat ones before that one without Adrenal mushrooms, unless you carefully research the tools you need to do without.
Any class can do it without Adrenal Mushrooms mastery or extra heals. Here is how:
1) pick up bacon
2) hover mouse over heal skill hotkey
3) click mouse
4) watch health go down 3 ticks
5) before 4th health tick, CTRL-right click mouse on heal skill hotkey to set to auto use
6) sit back and watch. You can hover the mouse over the toxin condition to monitor the time left until it stops ticking down and you get the HP.
This removes the need to worry about reflex times, lag, ping, etc, other than in that one moment of hitting ctrl-right click.
I’ll add another stupid question: Did you link your HoT key to your current account, or make a new account with it? To upgrade an existing account you need to select the correct option in registering the key.
would like to get the soundtrack. didnt see it here to purchase. anyone knows where to get it from?
I doubt it’ll surprise anyone that knows me that I’ll pre-order the next expansion the moment it’s available for sale. I’ve been happy with HoT (mostly — I very much dislike the implementation of guild hall decoration, for instance) and I have a history of pre-ordering any game I expect to play, so as to get the pre-order bonuses.
A habit broken by my awful experience with ArcheAge and TRION. Heck, I’ve been trying BDO out this week on a free trial and probably will buy it, though massive headaches have impacted my computer time the past few days and thus cost me a lot of my 7 day trial time. But I saw no reason to pre-buy something reviewed kitten grindy and PvP’y.
Nonetheless, I know what to expect with GW2, I know that they won’t deliver everything in one lump and then let us sit without anything new for a year. I fully expected that the HoT content would be an ongoing thing (maybe not quite as ongoing as the long wait for more legendaries and LS), so as long as I’m not in the poorhouse by the time the next expansion is ready to buy, I’ll buy it.
I’d love to pick up the Aether threads. However, I’m not sure how being on the LA Council gets Kiel any closer to the Krytan throne, LA being an independent political entity with economic influence over Kryta but no direct jurisdiction therein. And vice versa — Jennah has no say in what LA does, either, other than any diplomatic pressure.
It’s like saying someone maneuvered into the US Cabinet so as to have a better shot at usurping the throne of England.
I’d submit a ticket to support, and/or post this in the bug forums. I always buy gems via paypal — with FireFox already open on my other monitor — and it opens a tab just fine for me to login to paypal and make the payment.
It’s been a problem a lot longer than a week for me. I just have to be ready to spin my mouse wheel a lot.
When she says she needs to get “this account up to snuff” I assume that means she has more than one account and this one hasn’t gotten as much attention. She could be maxed mastery on her “main” one.
You’ve been a class act, sir. Your grace and charisma has been a huge factor in setting the tone for the GW2 community and no matter how sealed your lips have had to be on (perhaps too many) things, in my opinion you’ve been the reason for much of the enthusiasm for the game.
I look forward to finding out (and playing) whatever your next project is.
They’re complaining because they didn’t have the achieves under their belt to get the mastery points. I was lucky enough to have exactly the number needed, such that I didn’t even realize for a while that not all vets would because the coincidence was too amazing.
And apparently some of the achieves aren’t so easy now? I certainly feel the pain of the Tyrian mastery seekers as I chase down my last few HoT points to finish the last bit there.
No, they said those were the furthest along in the design process.
Do a google search on gw2 forums templates and you will likely find years worth of threads asking for this.
Pre-HoT the dev response was essentially “cool idea, would be super helpful, but we’re not working on it for HoT.” Post HoT I don’t recall them saying anything more specific unless it was in the AMA and I missed it there.
As long as the kittens look and move like kittens and not like bolsters sewn in general cat shape, I’m with you. ANet’s canines are awesome; their felines are chunky blocky messes, a continual surprise to me given the high quality of the art in general. (I mean actual young felines, no cursing has occurred in this post).
From Dulfy’s summary of the very recent AMA http://dulfy.net/2016/03/05/gw2-reddit-developer-ama-summary/ :
“We’ve experimented with public test servers and there are two problems for us: 1) much of our stuff is story driven, and not suitable for a public test server; and 2) the results from play patterns don’t match what we see later on live. Instead, we developed a system we used for HoT where we can beta test characters and maps on the Live servers with a cute little personal sandbox that surrounds beta characters. We will be exploring using that tech more so we can do public-test-server-like things but in the live game, so we get real useful results back.”
Trying again: Sure, Elric. Here it is in Clove/Glint’s Isolation and Cyanide/Shadow Blue.
You could if the forum would load my post >< I have a set of four shots of two dye sets, but it’s giving me errors and then saying I already saved the reply, even though it’s not showing on the page.
They have a titanium shimmer to them, though no particle effects beyond that. I picked up sword and staff with my two available tickets because they look pretty nifty and the staff in particular has a shape distinctive from other staffs in the game. Plus it has a bladed end, semi batlev style, so I can imagine hitting things with it and hurting them more than it. I like the shield for my (eventual) Revenant but can live without it using up slot space.
is that all it was? seemed like a big patch.
It also has the new raid section(s). That’s likely the biggest part. Read the patch notes
I’ll attest that the fabric dyes quite well, without greying or glossing out the tones. You just need to avoid two similar colors (unless you want a plainer look, that is. Glint’s Isolation in both fields gives you a nice canvas feel, for instance). It comes out looking like furniture upholstery. Or patio furniture.
It’d be nice to get a slightly less raw wood tone on the framework, but it is what it is.
Too bad we still look bald while wearing it.
Except it comes down low enough in the back to pretty much hide that. It just “conceals” short hair and one can imagine longer hair got piled up inside the hat. I am so happy about this! Now if only hats could be worn with outfits, and we could get the old town clothes back.
Here is an old picture:
I am Precocious obviously =-)
Or a Smeghead…. Your choice =-)
Now I’m giggling! What a fine show that was. I remember a film of a Q&A session the cast did at a con. Very first question from a rather young child was a sweetly innocent “what does (for some reason the feline filter came in on smeg) mean?” The Lister actor lost it completely, laughing his head off ’til he was crawling on the floor slapping it with a hand.
I’m so glad I was around for when Red Dwarf was airing (and Farscape, and Firefly, and Babylon 5). You younger sorts who are enjoying GW2 are going to be able to reflect fondly on it in 20 years and use it to one-up other people saying “I remember when MMOs still had 2D graphics.”
You named some obviously great Sci-Fi’s! But you missed the Greatest and Longest Running of them all and the only one that counts.
Doctor Who! Tho the others are all very good too =-)
Well, I’m not a Whovian though I do watch it now. Thing is, it’s still going. I was referencing shows that people can’t watch any more.
I could also reference some old MMO’s. I didn’t play Everquest — when I heard of it it sounded like a time sink beyond belief — but I had some friends get me into DaoC (I was already married by then, MMO’s haven’t been around all my life), from which I went to Horizons for a couple of years before ending up in WoW long term until GW2. I don’t think DaoC exists any more. Horizons has become Istaria and from the website looks not updated at all.
I dearly hope GW2 lasts long enough for people to be amazed I was around for its launch
GW2’s situation is more complicated, since ‘build’ also includes choice of runes, weapons, and sigils.
Oh, please. That would go too far. It takes only seconds to switch to another set of armor or change weapons — like we did in GW1 where you did have the option to save skill builds.
Those are just excuses IMO. We don’t need runes and sigils to be saved into build templates. Seriously.
Well … it only takes seconds if you have memorized your alternate build and know exactly where in your bags the other gear is and haven’t accidentally hit a button that rearranges your inventory. Not that I think a template swapper will allow re-runing, what you have in the gear is what you have installed.
Yet what about those who keep variations of gear sets depending on what stats/runes they want to use? I’m not one of them, my bags never have that much spare space. Still, it strikes me that having a toggle to swap out traits and armor to pre-made sets would be a seriously nice QoL feature.
The search box is forever broken, and you can’t even see the year that a post was posted in.
Actually as someone taught me recently, you can. Go to the “2 years ago” on the individual posts in the just-closed swimsuit thread and mouse over it. You get an exact date.

They said every 3 months, there being 3 months per 1/4 a year. With other stuff in between as it becomes ready.
The last big update was in the last week of January, about 5 weeks ago. There are 8 weeks in a 2 month period, and as I said, it’s three months not two between the quarterly updates. So you are a little early on the “are we there yet” questions even for the two months you presume. /grins
From Qugi’s link, a further link, to Dulfy’s excellently readable summary of the AMA:
http://dulfy.net/2016/03/05/gw2-reddit-developer-ama-summary/
I’m 50 and retired so I have lots of forum posting time available. Though come to think of it I was pretty chatty in here when I was working, too. Just more in the evenings and weekends back then
To use the comparative form of other posters here, I was born four years before Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and have vague memories of watching that on TV.
Way past the mid-20’s, though. /leans sharply on the average, dragging it kicking and screaming upwards

That sounds like an excellent plan. I’m guessing you have not bought the expansion. That won’t affect your basic game play but please don’t jump off a cliff following someone … they may have a glider and you may have only a face-smashing splat.
The starting experience is now full of popup tips and hints as well as gated access to game features. Some of that won’t happen since you already have a higher level alt but it will teach you a few things.
Feel free to ask in Map Chat for explanations of some things, though you should likely type /wiki (subject of interest) first in case the answer is already there. Map answers often are to wiki it. So if you want to understand what to do with hero points now you can /wiki hero points and get an explanation, then ask in Map to refine your understanding.
The game still has the 5 weapon skills, 1 healing skill, 3 utility skills, and 1 elite skill as before, along with F# skills depending on profession played. Trait and skill acquisition has changed (see the wiki page I mentioned). You can now freely respec any time you are out of combat.
Good luck!
I tried watching the video. It gave me a segment on pistol use and then started another Thief clip. There seemed to be panels at the bottom to see what the topics were but none mentioned Soesbee and I couldn’t click them to hop around anyway.
I’ll need a lot more time and patience to try to find her section.
There is one current outfit that lets you hide shoulders and gloves as well: Cook’s. It’s a holdover from its townclothes days.
mustn’t …. mustn’t … mustn’t …. will power failing …
MMO RP G. RP. You wonder why thousands of people are “allowed” to tell their own stories against the backdrop of the world of Tyria? Yes, sometimes it’s drivel, sometimes it’s badly written, sometimes it’s even offensive. And sometimes it’s the grand epic tale that brings the game to life for the players, invests them in their characters and in the game itself, and keeps them playing for years.
It’s an online RP game. If you don’t like it you can close your ears as suggested above, but asking for the creative storytelling voices to be muzzled for thousands to spare you alone from having to deal with grammar issues is the outside of enough.
The math holds up because it’s not half of all the retailers. Read the rest of the sentence!
Thanks for this! I know you don’t get a lot of replies because the thread’s point is to list the items in an easy to find manner. Which is why I’m exerting all my willpower not to comment on today’s sale. ALL of it.
Anyway, please know you are appreciated and this thread is one of the most helpful ones going right now.
Um, I don’t think Gaile is qualified for the position; she’s made it clear she doesn’t theorycraft or do game design. And why would you make her leave her current one? We want someone that kind, generous, and energetic right here in the forums helping soothe all the angsty posters and brighten everyone’s day.
You’re just asking for the Peter Principle to be enacted
Reddit folks seem to think he’ll be working at Amazon but didn’t cite any source for this beyond “Amazon is hiring a lot of game devs.”
Wherever it is, I’m glad he’ll have family time and no commute. The stress relief of those two factors has to have him walking on air no matter how much fun he had working at ANet.
Here’s a question I wish were asked, if it hasn’t been: Can Lost Precipice updrafts be turned on permanently, for heaven’s sake?
Will there be any expansions for Outside coming soon?
I don’t know how soon but I’ve heard a lot of rumors about the Mars expansion.
Oh foo, disappointing if clear answer about elite specs — “elite specs are for expansion packs.” So no new elite lines to play with until the next expansion. At least now we know.
Flesh, you’re gonna have a huge task sorting out the AMA when it’s done. But I believe in you!
Darn, I don’t have a Reddit account so I will just have to silently watch. I do like the questions folks are posing, though.
I’m so sad we’re losing Colin though having it be on good terms is some comfort. All the best to you, sir, and I hope that once you’ve settled in your new place, whatever that may be, that you’ll drop in to say hi here now and then.
Adding this:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/03/arenanet-unveils-new-profession-and-norn-starting-area-for-guild/
Including this line:
“Ree Soesbee made the experience even better by giving some insight into what the Thief is and is not (don’t worry, this is definitely not a reskinned Assassin) and chatting about the origins of the class.”
I’m starving for dinner or I’d watch the videos in the article but apparently they include Soesbee’s comments.
I remember back when they first announced Thief. I no longer remember the exact words, but the gist of them stays with me as this was what helped shape the RP of my main character, Donari.
In essence, a GW2 Thief is not merely an assassin, or a WoW rogue. S/he is a physically agile master of deception. This can cover con men, swashbucklers, burglars, pickpockets, secret agents, etc. And it can cover backstabbing assassins and shadow-stealthing sorts as well, of course. As to the shadowstep and stealth powers, well. ICly my Thief doesn’t have those. He’s just superb at acting, disguise, blending in, sleight of hand, and not being noticed … when he’s not claiming center stage as the egocentric limelight seeker he is at heart.
To me, the game mechanics are there to be mechanics, rather than a laundry list of “this is what every thief can canonically do and everyone will know the list and expect it.” Having the mechanics does give a springboard to RP, I’ve certainly used profession skills and utilities to describe things my characters can do, but I prefer to use it as guiding inspiration so that what I do fits the setting. Also I limit it to a subset. As I say Donari doesn’t ICly magically shadowstep, or use poisons. My human necromancer is aces at blood magic and death-energy-channeling but she doesn’t do minions, whereas my asura necromancer is all about shaping flesh into useful servants, preferably with cyborg attachments to extend their shelf life …
So in the lack of in-game lore about Thieves, design your character to fit within the general parameters of the archetype and them make him or her your own
Pax is right, one key to doing well in the Outside game is to link accounts. It’s not an exploit, it’s a core part of the rules as you can see from its effect on the cash shop and gold sink reductions. I’ve been playing five decades and generally have not had issues with gold flow, especially once I linked up with this other player almost 24 years ago.
I still prefer GW2 as a game, however, for several reasons that lead me to give Outside very mixed reviews. One is the massive RNG in Outside, the gem store has nothing on it. While I got fairly lucky in my starting rolls, and was one of the accounts attached to already successful ones, as a confirmed altoholic I really resent being stuck with a random starting character. It turns out the low rez impressionistic graphics Outside offers are due to a random disadvantage placed on my account and I have to shell out gold for a mod called “lenses” that degrade over time if I want to get a good view distance and not run my mount into walls.
Speaking of degrading over time, egad the maintenance fees. Anyone who followed my posts in the Guild Halls CDI knows my stance on maintenance fees to preserve game progress. Outside has gone hog wild with these. You can’t just walk away and come back a few months later to the same home instance and character stats. You have to keep logging in and leveling or it’s all gone. I worked very hard to unlock an elite profession, then maintained it for 19 years of play until the amount of keyboard dancing it took wore me out. You’d think that amount of dedication would do me some good in the cash shop now, but nooooo. I don’t get the discounts for another 12 years!
But no matter how much you work at it and keep leveling your profession there is built in character decay. Mine used to be able to do all the dance emotes, lots of crafting, and reach a lot of areas of the game world. Now she moves stiffly, her crafted artworks look first level, and she’s flat out shut down with days-long cripple conditions the last few times I tried to move her out of her local quest area. You’d think you could buy mods to fix that, right? But back when I wanted to buy the LASIK mod that a lot of players were praising, for a longer term fix for that lens mod issue mentioned above, the mod writers said it was only tailored to certain hardware and my Outside was installed on the wrong setup. Then the Outside devs said you only get one install and if you try to go to new hardware your account is permanently banned.
OP, you’ve had some issues finding guilds, but you need to try. Outside is a team effort game. Once you link up then each member can go to the parts of Outside play they prefer and then pool the resources. Just try to avoid a PvP guild even though you seem to like the PvP areas of play; a lot of them are scammers who need fodder for opposing gankers. You mentioned endgame, but like GW2, Outside is meant for the journey, not the end. I’m in no rush to reach endgame — I think that while it might be on the table, most likely the devs haven’t actually implemented any maps there and that’s why we have no reliable datamines and no one who hits max level ever reports back to give spoilers or fill out the wiki.
I just did it — right after I crossed the finish line and got silver, I opened inventory and used the Generator. HOPE III done! Then I hit reset to return to start and open the silver chest.
