Um … I did say if he hadn’t made them account bound. /points to her first sentence
They come account bound…..
that’s literally what he just said, verbatim
um no… they said “Only if you processed the mats into account bound things. Otherwise you now have a gold mine.”
There is no processing, they literally start out account bound.
The post I quoted complained about “all the farming I did.” I know that all my farming for hard wood for the Gift of Wood got me a lot of non-account bound wood until I made the Gift. Ditto the iron and platinum to make deldrimor ingots (which also can be sold). Heck, all the orbs I’ve amassed over the years could be sold if I didn’t want to make amalgamateds, same with the dust for promotion.
So there is plenty of legendary-related farming that gets you salable mats if you end up electing not to use them for the legendary, so long as you do not convert them to the non-salable forms until you are making the thing. Which is all I said. Had s/he said account bound in relation to the farming comment, I’d not have put in that line in my comments on the overall situation addressed by this thread.
Um … I did say if he hadn’t made them account bound. /points to her first sentence
kitten you Anet, bunch of scammers. Man, all that farming i did is useless now.
Only if you processed the mats into account bound things. Otherwise you now have a gold mine.
I am worried about the implications of this decision but don’t feel scammed even though I’ve enjoyed working on HOPE and might have wanted a similar project a while down the road. My most immediate, self-servingly selfish concern lies in the dev comment a bit back that they were aware of the amalgamated gemstone issue and would possibly change that up. With the Legendary devs now off the project other than finishing the shortbow, will any polishing be done on the ones that were completed?
I’ve PM’d Mr. O’Brien as he said he was available by email. I don’t expect a speedy response, as he is surely swamped (maybe no response at all), but I do hope that someone at ANet will resolve that for those of us who have been waiting to start assembling amalgamated gemstones and other crystalline ingot mats based on the previous comment.
This has been debated many times in these very forums, with the few that want the meters tending to devolve into “so I can kick out the ones who aren’t doing dps” and the many that don’t want them pointing out all the things they won’t measure that matter in GW2 combat and the likelihood that players who can see other players’ dps will get nasty about it.
For personal dps checking there is an API program that just reads your combat log (you have to make it the visible tab, make the chat box as big as possible, and toggle off most of the combat channel boxes) and quickly does the math based on what it reads. I think it is called jaxnX … at least I have an icon for that on my desktop from when I was doing a raid-ready test on myself so I think that’s the one. The version I used was cleared as not doing anything to occasion a ban. It certainly didn’t do anything immediate to give me a play advantage while I attacked Risen Giants for the test, simply gave me feedback on how various weapon use combos affected dps. Dps only, not support, not condition clearing, not cc. I haven’t used it in months and can’t vouch for any current iteration being ok to use.
Anyway, this seems another merge-ready topic given how often it comes up and how often it contains exactly the same pro/con arguments.
I wonder if it’ll coat you in tiger stripe aura while you wield it. And how Thief/Daredevil it will feel, as I don’t play my ranger much and when I do she is staff/longbow.
I really like this thread! I would really appreciate (and depserately need) A satchel of Berserker’s Emblazoned Armor (LEvel 80 armor set) a level 80 exotic berserker’s short bow and staff! I bought the trinkets already but can’t afford the rest. I don’t get to lay much anymore because of work, and I am lucky if I get to even play for an hour everyday.
So, to make it easier:
1. Level 80 exotic Satchel of Bersker’s Emblazoned Armor (Prices are between 30-50 gold)
2. A Level 80 Bersker’s Exotic Staff
3. A level 80 Berserker’s Exotic ShortbowThank you!
EDIT. Still need it :’(
I’m quoting this because the shortbow is now covered, along with advice on Temple armor, but I am not sure Amber’s been in game to see his/her mail in the past few days.
Do you mean they come and sit afk? Because if they come help kill your vine after their vine is dead, that helps everyone by making sure no vine fails. I have cognitive dissonance in trying to apply the term “leeching” to people actively working on events even if they do get a few more greens and blues than those who stay to guide one part of the meta.
Take into account all of the leather requirements for building up guild halls. That is probably where the Jan. increase hit hardest.
Charrbeque and I already mentioned that earlier in the thread. Guess it’s good we have a consensus forming on the matter ..
My usual times to go to DS on those days when I do a run or two tend to be in any of the cycles from 1:30 pm eastern to maybe 7:30 pm. Not quite prime time but I don’t recall that I’ve ever had a map be empty or fail the meta in those times.
That’s pretty much NA prime time bud, at least the first half of it. It’s a few hours before the daily reset (players trying to get stuff done before reset logs in) and a few hours after daily reset (players trying to get stuff done as soon as possible once dailies reset). You’re pretty much playing during the first half of NA prime time. Probably why you don’t have the empty map issue.
Prime times are pretty much around and during dinner time in the 4 different zones, NA, EU, AUS/OxC, SEA. There’s not a big gap between the different zones, only about 2 hours. But I play on NA servers (live in the US) but can only really log in during EU prime times, so I don’t see much action on NA servers. Which is sad, for me that is.
You’re probably right. I just don’t think of early to mid afternoon as “prime time” since anyone with a 9 to 5 job won’t be playing then and I grew up in the TV era when “prime time” was in the evening after dinner. Given the quote about needing to use prime time to put the kids to bed, I was operating on the assumption that the poster got the same connotations as me. Eh, semantics
Right after launch it happened all the time. I haven’t been doing so much VB lately but I think it was in the last month that I headed to Matriarch and she stuck herself under the platform but could still be hit if you stood in the right place after gliding down to her.
I’m sure ANet’s not happy about such a visible bug, so it has to be really tricky to fix or it’d be gone by now.
It’s an airship. It could go a distance before crashing.
Hmm, apparently when in the starter instance you cannot view the map, so here is my level 2 placeholder’s view of the map. Two shots because the whole thing doesn’t fit north to south even zoomed out. Sorry that DR and Shaemoor are shown.
Hey, I have a placeholder alt who hasn’t left the starter instance, one sec and I’ll get a snapshot.
Earlier today I ran Seeds of Truth with a guildie to get her set for achieves. I brought along my sylvari mesmer, utility bar happening to have Decoy, Mirror Image, Feedback, and Time Warp. GS/Scepter/Focus for weapons, if that matters (no this is not my main mesmer, don’t judge me
).
My friend was Caithe, I stayed as myself (just altered to a period ’vari, of course). During the centaur battle and the final boss centaur fight, Mirror Image consistently bounced me slightly left and made the deploy sound but did not create the two clones, nor did my pink dots over the F keys light up with the two I should have gotten.
Ree is alive! There’s not much to this interview, just some minor clarifications if that, but lookie lookie an interview with Ree Soesbee exists.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/lore-interview-with-ree-soesbee/
General Health said it well. There’s lots to do (more if you have HoT thanks to all the collections introduced that send you doing things all over the place, PvE wise).
Be aware that if you took your break two years ago you left well before the HoT update. Probably before Living Story 2, in fact — HoT just came out at the end of last October, after being announced at the end of January 2015. You can experience LS2 without buying it, though you cannot get the achieves or rewards from it, if you get someone who has unlocked it to run you through the chapters. If you logged in for even a few seconds (fully in game that is) at any point during the LS2 chapter releases, you will already have the chapters unlocked that you logged in during and not have to pay to unlock them now. I think it’s 200 gems per chapter?
The way I’ve looked at it in various MMO’s is to assume the creatures aren’t carrying the items but that in the course of the fight and the aftermath you come across something dropped and mostly buried in leaves or some such. No pistol on the bunny but maybe someone shoved one in the bunny’s burrow to hide it and then never got back for it. That sort of thing.
Have you played HoT properly? If at all? I challenge you to get map completion on one single Magus falls map solo. Oh sorry no you can’t it’s near impossible….
Ummm, I’m sorry to say but just cause you find it impossible to do doesn’t mean it can’t be done – gotten 100% comp on all maps without grouping up. Obviously except metas.
Out of curiosity did you solo the Mushroom Queen, the champ Arrowhead, the Chak in the Ogre lane, etc, or were there other players also fighting them that just didn’t happen to be in your party? Did you solo all of them without any other player hitting them at all in order to do your 100% solo clear?
We seem to have run out of leather… I don’t know what it is being used for
Per the wiki page on the item, guild hall upgrades need stacks of it, as do a variety of Legendaries. Level 400 scribe decorations also need it. So now as more people are getting to Scribe 400, going for Legendary collections, and building up their halls, the sink has increased.
I have a possibly irrelevant or possibly already asked question on this: How big are the affected guilds? How many members are on at once? None of my guilds ever seem to have as many as 10 on at a time, usually not even five, and I have had no one complain about this bug in any of them.
So I thought it could a factor. If the metrics show that it is only hitting certain higher populations that could make a difference. Pure speculation on my part, of course.
Obstructed
Aka “No valid path to target.”
It went a step further for me: I got the connection retrying thing but after a few minutes bam, I had a full green bar, no visible patch. I went back in game and got another “new build in ten minutes” message, that then popped up to “new build available, restart in one hour,” and on -that- restart I got the patch.
I haven’t experienced this myself, but the story-stopping bugs I’ve been reading about are terrible. To wit, losing skill 1 on transforms and not being able to knock out the asura in the stealth section. I also have a lot of empathy for those who have properly triggered their legendary collection item, had the buff active when the rare-spawn boss died, and not received the collection progression they just earned.
I’m hoping for announcements of what they intend to do about amalgamated gemstones. I am 250 crystalline ingots and 1 Gift of Maguuma away from HOPE. The latter is just a matter of running a few metas. The former is going to take a lot of effort and resources; since they said they might do something about that, I’m holding off.
Typically, though, they don’t give us a blog about these things until just a couple of weeks out and we’re still probably a month away from the April patch. I’d rather they wait until (slightly) after Apr 1, anyway since anything before or on that day will be dismissed by many as a prank.
It’s been years since I read Ghosts of Ascalon but as I recall the act that triggered the disgust was when Killeen animated a recent corpse of one of their companions to walk across a trapped area to set off the traps.
I do know that the devs said more than once that Tyrian necromancy is not inherently evil and doesn’t make people stop being friends with you. They wanted to ring changes on the theme (remember, the professions were designed when they were doing their best to be a different kind of MMO).
So that’s why their thieves are called “thieves” for gameplay reasons but not because they are all dishonest property nappers or back stabbing assassins. The name gives Terran readers certain connotations, just as does “necromancer,” but ANet has at least tried to change the paradigms on them.
Here’s the funny thing about work: it has value.
When you try to sell something that takes only an hour instead of 10 hours (using their ratios), it shows.
A set of armor is something I can tinker with and experiment with and ENJOY for hours.
An outfit you either put it one or take it off. Done. Bored now. Never going to buy one of these ever again.
Can I have a source for that? I searched several sites and was unable to locate a 10 to one ratio.
Check the quote from O’Brien in https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Dev-quotes-from-Reddit/page/3#post6023796
Ty. I’ve been searching all over for that quote for a day or two. Found it and It was in my thread.
I’m going to blame it on my glasses.
In your defense, it was in the middle of all the AMA stuff you were posting. So you were copy pasting like a madman, not necessarily carefully perusing.
The tag isn’t there to motivate people, not in DS. I mean, it does that too, but it’s more than a beacon, it’s a way to quickly head count how many are in each lane so extras can shift to lanes in need and also a way to quickly sort out the boss killers from the zerg at the towers.
Also as noted above forming a squad in the 5 to 10 minutes before map reset is a good way to make sure a large hunk of people interested in an organized run can get to the same map. Then people leave squad once taxied in and go form squads for each lane.
My usual times to go to DS on those days when I do a run or two tend to be in any of the cycles from 1:30 pm eastern to maybe 7:30 pm. Not quite prime time but I don’t recall that I’ve ever had a map be empty or fail the meta in those times.
Dumped a couple hundred dollars last night for the bank tab upgrade additions & although I don’t think I’d use the bunny ears I bought them anyway. I noticed too the exchange rate was good for those that wanted to cash in gems for gold.
Would dump another couple hundred dollars if they bring back Aviator and Wide Rim Sunglasses. Just sayin’. Or even those awesome Boxing Gloves.
Thanks for brining back those discontinued items though, very much appreciated, ANet!
A couple hundred? Under fifty bucks was enough for two new bank tabs, the glider, and the outfit, so 2 tabs and bunny ears can’t have been that much.
The tabs made me very happy. I spent quite a while rearranging my bank now that it has breathing room, getting things placed in categories. Feels so good. It won’t last, I’ll acquire more bits and pieces and shove them in where there is room, but for now, like items are with like items. More storage is always something I want and will buy unless finances get horrid.
Hopefully the shared slots will be expanded to let us have more of them. Unless some miracle drops a perm bank express in my lap I’m going to have plenty of things I want to permanently share among my alts.
I don’t do SW often enough to be sure (I have auto loot so I can’t track what drops when so easily), though that does mean DR is not an issue. I do know that the last time I did a full round, defending forts, running south lane since as a Reaper I can handle the bee pulling rather well, I only had one Greater Nightmare Key even though I got gold both in Breach and VW. I mentioned it to my guildie but otherwise didn’t worry about it since I was only there to help her get bandit crests for her legendary progress.

Check the dev comments quoted therein for why this won’t happen.
While this is clearly a problem for some, I will ask first and foremost if you are using the 64 bit client. If not, you should give it a try. It certainly cured the crashes for me and I’ve seen many reports in these forums that it worked for others.
That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be nice to have some form of crash protection (and maybe that’s even part of what they’re working on to make HoT less of a marathon time commitment, as they’ve announced they are doing), but your personal distress could be greatly alleviated if the 64 bit client does the trick for you. There is a sticky on how to apply it. It does not require a full client reload, just a redone launcher shortcut.
Check your Glider panel, folks. While it’s not yet available, a bubble glider skin is previewable there. You don’t seem to get an alternate pose, and it’s a water bubble not a soap bubble (probably as they already had water bubble art for Tempest), but hey! Could be this thread had an effect!
The white could also be Glint’s Isolation, which is a really lovely light cream on almost all materials, though the screenshot lighting makes it hard to tell. The red is probably Enameled something, judging by the saturation.
I’m pretty sure the ears have two dye fields (haven’t checked mine since HoT beta), so she’s got a pink variation for the lining and doubtless a white tone to match her dress for the shell.
GussJr, I tried to get that with all celestial on a norn, didn’t quite gel. But that made me want to do it up in all silver and go around saying “Klaatu Barada Nictu” at people.
Here it is on Male Human (another lol nope) and Female Charr (not too shabby, horns and ears aren’t amputated, though the tail base is odd. It sort of liquid-metal seals around the tail and globs around with the tail swish).
As I move along I will agree it is cute on Asura (male at least). I would not have so much white showing but as the same dye scheme works really well on a lot of outfits for this guy I elected to keep it for ease of swapping.
Another comment on the female version: Boob plates. These are actively dangerous to the wearer. But I can overlook that thanks to the full coverage of the rest. It’d be nice to see this without the butt cape, agreed, though I think it integrates well enough on this outfit.
This works nicely on human females. Haven’t tested other females yet, because after dyeing it for two of them my next alt up in rotation to pick a color scheme was a male sylvari. I didn’t even bother to dye it on him because I was too busy flashing back to the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, and laughing and saying Oh Hell No. I promise the dyes in the shot below look very elegant on the Lyssa Outfit.
I include a shot of a gold tones palette for human female, to illustrate the difference here. The dye channels are well thought out for female. The armor studs do tend to take a flat tone so if you go for bright gold, red, blue etc you get a gaudy plastic effect. I have yet to try asura and charr … it should be interesting.
They listened!

Bunny ears, plus the option to buy just the glider or outfit instead of the whole bundle.
Also 20% off Mini Angry Chest and Wintersday Gift, each 320 gems instead of 400.

I know someone linked a Reddit thread with a chart of gem store items and when they were last available, but I can’t find it now. Seeing when the black wings have been for sale might give some vague idea as to the cadence of their appearances.
Well, here’s an art bit I did for a card game called Super Nova back in the early 90’s. The concept to be illustrated was “Antarian Heat,” when the Antarian cat aliens have their version of Pon Farr. It has some effect on the abilities of other players to conquer the planet, as I recall. I wasn’t that good of an artist (and am worse now), and PhotoShop was in its infancy, but as I recently recovered the images from an old drive and found a way to read the files, here you go.
(For the record, I am super happy that ANet went with non-visible teats for Charr and Asura).
I did a little research and I think it will be easier for me to just run 11 alts up through Ch 13 of PS to complete my stack of sparks. I’m trying to save up my currency from TD so I don’t want to buy keys for the caches. It’s not like it’s a huge rush, anyway, since I’m going to hold off on assembling fulgurites, just amass the mats, until ANet says if they’re tweaking the amalgamated gemstone situation in the April patch. After all, one possible tweak is to reduce the ingots needed for Gift of Maguuma Mastery.
Before I beggar myself or lock mats away into account bound things I can’t use, I want to know if the requirements remain as they are or not.
I believe it depends on whether the different guilds are at the same or different stages of synthesizer progress. If the same, you use up the cooldown in just one. If varied, then you get extra node whacks. I saw a dev confirm this iirc but I don’t recall where.
I can confirm that you just need to give the key to your friend without using it yourself (make sure they know to attach it to an existing account if they already have the core game). I have done this for a couple of people via PM on this forum and hovered frantically until they assured me they now had HoT.
Since I need 179 more sparks for HOPE (unless they change that in the April patch), I sure hope you just had a patch of RNG issues.
Luckily this has not happened to me (yet) but the above comment from Dara about the shared UI tech reminds me of the week or two I had when the TP/Gem Store would not load from me while Support very patiently worked with me on the problem. There was a workaround for it that I used until I got a new computer, as apparently the issue was my registry had become corrupted.
This was/is on Win7. The solution was to create another Windows account, with admin privileges, and launch GW2 while running Windows on that alternate account. This wasn’t fun, because the alternate account lacked my preferred wallpaper, email access, etc, but at least I could play GW2 on my main Win account, then log out, log out of Win, log back in on the other account, and go back in game to use the TP. Or flat out play on a stripped down Win account; in game things were just the same.
TLDR: Try creating another Win7 account, put a GW2 shortcut on that desktop, and launch from there.
Hmm. Along the lines of your image, I more than once had axemaster in VB kill me midair as I glided frantically away (before i could see him or knew the fight). Nothing quite like being downed mid air and realizing that the 4 skill has no effect even with a long enough way down to possibly save yourself.
Do you recall how people back then thought RPG was some kind of cult activity? laughs….
I do. To my eternal shame I and my brother were a research source on how D&D worked for the author of Mazes and Monsters. In my defense I was a pre-teen and I thought she was genuinely interested in my hobby, she didn’t say it was for a book about how PnP games drive people suicidally crazy ><
Vayne, I’m with you to a great extent in this, though I do enjoy raids so long as they are with laid back people that don’t go FLAME ON if anyone goofs a little. I like learning them, chewing the glass, having great moments of teamwork. I just see no way for the devs to provide constantly tailored content. My solution in MMO’s has been to RP the heck out of them. I’m not always even in game for the RP, since GW2 has such limited chat log saving (to wit: screenshots, with a chat box that over-scrolls so it’s fiendishly hard to get just the set of lines you want, and then having to upload the screens to share with friends, bah) and sometimes I’m running a few NPC’s for the scene. Yet the world provides a stage and an internal consistency on which we RPers may frame our tales, and GW2 at least does offer occasional world-affecting events that can then ripple into the PC’s lives.
Zoltar, there is in fact a direct trade feature, mailing. I think you and Cambios are posting at cross-purposes here. The complaint is that a new account cannot mail items for a very long time.
I tend to buy the next batch of gear each 10 levels if I haven’t gotten close-enough drops. Runes and sigils if they drop. I only get rare gear of the pieces I use, keeping greens/blues for alternate weapons in case I just want the option to change up my weapon for a fight.
I don’t claim this is most efficient, but it works for me. Most of the content does not need you in the best gear for your level.
