I plead with people not to casually call a willing consumer a sufferer of Stockholm Syndrome. No player of the game is held prisoner and forced to play the game until they start to feel empathy and friendship for the devs.

You may well consider those willing to spend RL cash on the game naive, foolish, or unwise (it doesn’t mean they are, but it’s an arguable opinion). Brainwashed hostages, though, they are not.

Open your Hero Panel, click the star icon for personal story. As long as you are 80, you will see Heart of Thorns listed. Click on that to “begin this story.”

Then go to western Brisban, the bandit fort in the triad fight event area. There is a portal there to the Silverwastes. Follow the south exit out of the fort to get to the entrance to the red fort, where your story star will be waiting at the south gate.

HoT expansion without the core game?

Hi, I am just wondering if there is a way to get just the Heart of Thorns expansion without it being bundled with the core game than I have already purchased. I really wanna check it out, but don’t wanna pay $50 for an expansion that includes content I have already purchased. This is why I didn’t pre-order the expansion, but I was just curious as if they made a way to buy just the expansion alone.

Here, have 147 pages explaining that it’s not a bundle, it’s a way for new players not to have to buy two games to play.

I have a number of screenshots but you might want to run the Personal Story and pick chapters set in LA. Those will all be in old LA, though you’ll be instance-restricted to certain parts at a time. Turn off your post processing to remove the sepia.

Meanwhile check https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZDn-rmN_K0

http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/lions-arch-map-of-pois-waypoints-vistas-skills-and-more/6136/

I found those while looking for the thread where someone had a “we’re losing LA, quick screenshot ALL THE THINGS” reaction shortly before the attack.

Try doing a google search for “images Lion’s Arch gallery” to get more. But the Personal Story that lets you run around in old LA is your best bet for really getting a feel for it.

That’s a bug someone is complaining about in the Queensdale/Kessex Pain on Ears thread. I’ve also been hearing random people of all races uttering their “I’m confused” comments at odd moments, especially in the Pavilion during Wintersday.

My main being a human male, I’m pretty used to:
“I achieve things. I’m an achiever!”
“I make a pretty good team!” (Might be male asura when self-combo’ing, I’m not sure).
“Urge to kill rising!”
“That turned out better than I expected!”

Mo Mo, the wiki has a newish thing where you don’t have to edit it yourself. You can click on one of the tabs up top, get a window with a series of highlighted symbols (* or ~, I’m not sure) and replace the symbols with the information you want to add. Then a wiki editor can put it in the searchable wiki portion.

Personal Opinion of HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I know, right? All my characters’ pants are still on them!

As to your actual point, I’m sorry you don’t enjoy the changes. It’s subjective, however. I love the elite professions, I don’t find them disappointing at all. I’m hardly an amazing player yet I can roam around all the HoT maps without dying with relative ease (it does help that I am usually on a Reaper, thus highly resilient, and that I have full gliding and mushroom use).

I don’t particularly like Orr and didn’t even when it was new (before they nerfed the mobs it was constant aggro no matter where you went). It’s ugly and takes forever to get anywhere due to constantly contested WPs. I do like the HoT maps.

I will agree the story is shorter than it should be, in that we should in no way have been able to get to the end boss a few days into launch. That fight needed the same long term build up as Zhaitan. On the other hand, they have more story coming, maybe Mordy’s not really gone, we can’t know how extensive the HoT story is until we’re closing in on the next expansion. (Do I believe it’s going to turn into something much longer and epic? No. I think we’ll have shorter episodic bits that don’t explore the intricacies of the effects on the whole world or look into what’s going on simultaneously elsewhere, just as we’ve had thus far. But right now it’s too early to declare that the story is over).

It’s not a fail, though. Plenty of people are having fun, me included, despite the flaws. Yet not every game can satisfy every player. I’m sure there are people deeply invested in ArcheAge no matter how much of a cesspit I personally consider that game — yes, I bash on AA a lot. It’s the only real “fail” of an anticipated game I’ve personally encountered, and even then it’s a “fail” for me. So I stopped playing it, I even advised friends not to start playing it, but I’m not on its forums yelling about how horrible Trion is or how failed their game is.

Bit of a thread necro but I will say I’ve just noticed this in the past week or so. I’ve been meaning to check my settings to see if something got moved to default because my recent screenshots have definitely seemed low rez.

And I’m someone that isn’t even that picky about it, I don’t need SweetFX or the like to enjoy the game’s looks. My RL eyes are extremely myopic, I’m used to a fuzzy world. So when things start looking dull and blurry on the screen to me there must be something wrong!

CES 2016 Tobii Eye Tracking for Gw2?

The presenter did say that UbiSoft had put the eye tracking interface into the game. So ANet would likely have to program that into GW2 to make it work.

It looks very cool, though. I have questions such as how it works if you have thick glasses, how an MMO could use it when you have to flick your gaze to a number of indicators as well as the chat window, and whether it can be guaranteed not to act as a video camera sending your face out to the world. I may be one of the few holdouts but I refuse to have a camera pointed at my face while I am at the computer because when at home I am not gussied up for public view and I can’t be absolutely certain the camera hasn’t somehow turned on.

Donari.5237

You need to get to the sw corner of Tangled Depths, down in the cave system. The easiest way there would be to start at the Leyline Confluence and go west along the Ogre Lane, looking for ways down once you are at the west edge of the map. Or to take a wallow from Teku Nuhoch to the Ogre Lane and then go west, if you have that wp.

The caves down there are full of mordrem but if you just keep moving along you should get to an overlook right over the Dragon’s Passage wp and that is the gate into DS.

Things and changes you don't like

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Donari.5237

Things I don’t like: not giving a basis for why you don’t like a thing. “I don’t like outfits” doesn’t say what exactly is wrong with them, for instance. “Several gem store outfits that look ridiculous.” Which ones? What is the ridiculous part of them? How would you improve them into something you do like?

I’m not saying you shouldn’t point out flawed things about the game, but they can’t really work on fixing the flaws if you don’t give something more detailed than a general “it doesn’t match my opinion of what is good.” (Some posters have in fact given some details; most, however, have just listed parts of the game in very broad strokes).

Here is my thing I don’t like: Guild hall decorating and scribing. It is far too expensive for the rewards received and makes it prohibitive to make enough decorations to actually do anything interesting. I would suggest converting to a wardrobe skin system where you unlock an item once and then rubber stamp it as much as you like so long as you have decoration permission. From there tweaks could be made to increase the objects that can be made, add in wall hangings and paintings for mounting on vertical surfaces, and the like.

Country coat and boots, ascalon legs, reading glasses, shoulders and gloves hidden. I’d have to go in game to get the dye names. His looks come from an Elonian-descent father and an Ascalonian/Krytan mother. The close up is with Cook’s outfit from when I was giving him the dreads and super blue eyes (which in game look rather freaky, why are human male eyes rolled up in their heads?).

You might not need to. I see no indication that central Tyria will have leylines.

I’m going to have to hit up more adventures and hope I can do well enough to get the points. Goal Tracking in GW2

I haven’t done anything as complex as a legendary yet. But I keep a legal pad by my keyboard and when I was making Nightfury and Ascended gear I hand wrote the things I needed and crossed them out as I got them; where it was a number of things such as 250 linseed oils I kept scribbling in current amounts. Either made or needed to make, whichever made more mental sense to me at the time. I don’t set them up by time goals, just by overall acquisition needs so I don’t have to keep opening the wiki or other windows.

That pad has been slowly filling with such notes as well as lists of skins my individual alts want, rankings of BL weapon skins in order of preference, RP ideas, etc. Once a list is no longer relevant I put a long line through it.

I do keep some electronic lists as well, in Word. So I have already figured out the order of dyes I want to get from 3rd bday presents and which kits hold them, I keep a list of outfit dye schemes for each alt, I also keep my preferred builds, PS progress, number and size of bags on each, RP bdays, in game bdays, etc. That’s for reference rather than for tracking changing things, however.

As fate would have it, I ran into a dev in-game and after chatting for a bit, I pitched the idea. He replied saying, “Well, there’s the Prince Thorn outfit…” To that I just kinda smiled and nodded as I figured it was safe to assume he’s probably never even seen a jester before.

Lol, the Prince Thorn outfit isn’t even remotely close.

An actual jester’s outfit would be so amazing! I’ve been holding out hope for one to use on my mesmer for so long, and TWICE now I’ve been taunted with unobtainable outfits. The first is the one that Donari attached in his first post. The second was an outfit I saw during Halloween. I agree that an outfit more closely resembling the Aion one would be preferred. It just looks so much more stylish and, well, foolish.

Oh, and for those wondering what that Halloween jester outfit looked like, I took a screen cap for your viewing pleasure! Let it taunt you the way it has taunted me!

I’m pretty sure that is the female version of the male one I posted above, but I only seem to have a processed screenie of the male one. If I have one in female I’ll have to dig through my old screens and I don’t know what month to look in.

[Minor Sugg] Highlight Current Outfit

Donari.5237

As the outfits mount up in the panel in their random jumble (seriously, if there is a scheme to where they appear, I’ve not yet sussed it out), and as I look at alternative outfits to the one I am wearing, I realize that if I don’t first locate it in the grid and remember where it is, I will have to scan for quite a while to toggle back to it.

If a highlighted box were around the outfit (or miniature, or glider) similar to the gold highlight box on selected features in character selection, it would be much easier to mentally note its location and get back to it if wished.

Or just sort the darn things out alphabetically. Anything to make them easier to find.

Sounds like RNG is not helping you there. I’ve helped take a few halls (my own guild did Lost Precipice). As long as everyone has good mobility and updraft use and knows the pathing, you should be able to get to the next spawn, ctrl-T the vinetenders to focus them down, then mow down the vine while avoiding dying to the mobs. 6 or 7 people should be able to do it. You want to cap at … 9? … so you continue to only get one vine spawn at a time.

Do you need another person to help out? I can come in game and join you (on NA). I don’t have to be in your guild, just partied with a guild member.

As Harold noted you do have a personal bank, it’s the scribe craft station.

I think you left out a huge thing that is wrong with the system, though you touched on it in the high price of scribing: The unrealistic amounts of resources needed to craft the most simple items, when each item has to be made individually before it can be used to decorate.

It should be a wardrobe skins template system instead. You make the thing once, possibly at the current astronomical cost level. But then you can rubberstamp it all over the hall, if you want 1000 chairs and nothing else, go for it. Perhaps special things like the HoT prepurchase items or world boss treasure chests or pumpkins and snowpiles could remain limited to the numbers created, but basic furnishings? C’mon!

As far as I can tell the theme you pick (which is a choice of city themes) only plays once before you’re back to standard background music, but at least the NPC is there in the tavern. I checked with guildies and they heard the changes I toggled.

What this thread is asking for is a larger repertoire. I’ll add in a request to make the music permanent until changed, even if people leave the hall (thus closing that map instance).

Back when the wardrobe went into effect and I had many extra townclothes as a result, I submitted a very polite and detailed ticket (granted, they had announced there would be a refund time window). I listed how many extra of each item I had. It was a lot of gems worth — and they refunded all of them. Because numbers don’t stick in my head I can’t remember any more how much it was other than definitely, literally, over 9000. Might have been over 19,000.

I’m debating asking for a refund on my second copper-fed now, I believe I got it on sale at one point. On the other hand I’ve gotten a lot of use out of it, well worth the purchase already, and the shared slots are so limited in number that maybe I don’t want to have to permanently dedicate one to the salvage-o-matic.

For a set of them it cost more than HoT. So either Arenanet is saying Hot content is lacking so much its worth less than a some inventory slots or someone made a mistake and these slots are way overpriced. Its like a car costing $40,000 and the floor mats costing $50,000.

Actually it is $35.00 for the 2800 gems you need to buy 5 slots at once; I know, because that is what I just spent. HoT’s base cost is $50.00, with $75 and $100 options.

So while there are certainly solid arguments as to the slots being overpriced, “cost more than HoT” is not one of them.

I suppose gliding mastery will be available to everyone? including core and f2p accounts? if not they are going to feel excluded, not being able to follow a commander to say one example. I can imagine already, if you cant fly, get out!

It will be based on the mastery system. If you have gliding mastery in maguuma, you’ll have it in Tyria.

ANet Sean Source
EDIT: Sorry about the misunderstanding. That line specifically is referring to the currently existing “Glider Basics” mastery, not a new one.

Next post:
Anet_Sean
Apologies, I mis-read your post. Earlier in development you needed to earn a new Mastery ability to glide in Central Tyria, but we changed that so that the Gliding masteries you already earned just work in Central Tyria by default. I thought you were referring to that, and not the blog post.

If they feel left out, they can always buy the expansion and get it. A business doesn’t hand out for free things that are the big attractions for an expansion.

Interesting info. So ArenaNet was actually doing the RIGHT thing first, then changed mind to force people to buy expansion. For me it’s really obvious, the core Tyria masteries was originally intended for everyone for free, the red icons versus green icons, etc.

I believe you have misunderstood something. They do the color difference because mastery points from different areas don’t mix and match where you can spend them so that is a quick way to see. You can’t do core Tyria masteries at all without owning HoT, the whole mastery system comes with the expansion. And when they changed things in the gliding-in-core development, they made it easier for us because instead of adding a new mastery line for core Tyria (and using up precious mastery points to buy it), they decided that gliding only needs to be learned once.
