Why would Arenanet choose the Brickstation 4 though?

Making enemies dodge like they do in the training area of HoTM would make combat more interesting

I disagree that they screwed up Halloween 2013. I absolutly loved it. More then that I’m really happy and greatfull they decided to not repeat the same old boring festival every year but try to make it interesting and refreshing each time it comes around.

Why ask for an expansion, when you are getting all this content for free? Sure it isn’t permanent, but you blow through it as fast as you would expansion content.

Permanent content will find its way in, and they will probably add some more areas (like the crystal desert, etc) as time goes on. They said they aren’t gonna add any new professions for awhile, nor any new weapons. They did say they might make more weapons playable for each professions.

Maybe they might add a new playable race in the future. They do add dungeons during the living story.

What would an expansion really offer, other than a way for NC Soft to make more money from a box?

I think you need to give the living story a fair shake, and quit crying every 2 seconds about it. They are getting better over time, while still tweaking and adding to the rest of the game. Let the story play out. Do you cry every week during a mystery tv show, because you want to know what is going on? Then the villain is introduced, with little back story, and then you do what? Cry some more?

What exactly would an expansion have? DE that nobody seems to care except leveling? More landmass that nobody will bother dealing with after the initial hype wears off? More levels? because a lot of people don’t seem to enjoy and will probably rage quit and whine about how Arenanet broke their promise.

In any case, the LS is no worst than an expansion. An expansion only adds useless stuff that will only be used for a few weeks and be discarded then almost immediate player will start whining about a new expansion. An expansion isn’t going to benefit the game much because al it does is shift the player base to a new location just like the LS does, but expansion cost more to make and overrall weakens the base game.

Guild Halls
Alliances
New Dungeons
New Armor (that ISNT from the gem store)
New Weapons (skins and types)
New Races
New Professions
New PvP gametypes (wheres my jade quarry)
Interesting lore (DRAGONS)
New mechanics (nightfall added in heroes, single hand biggest change to the entire game)
etc etc

and the most important of them all is that it is permanent and repeatable. Can i run through the flame and frost story again on a new character? No
Can i do the aetherblade instance again to refresh my memory? no
Expansion lets me choose when i want to and how fast i want to play, not force me to do these dumb achievements in a week to get the useless reward.

This is great news, I hope they keep losing money so we can get a proper expansion/campaign already. Just more proof living story is a failure and not even the holy power of gem store microtransactions can save it.

We actually would have gotten not only Factions by this time but Nigthfall as well (released in Oct 2006). I totally agree though LS is horrible. War in Kryta would be a more fair comparison to LS being a live update, and that was better than any LS update ever released. Anet needs to get their act together before this game flatlines.

the story is as lame as expected… but the content is amazing. That tower is so much fun.

I beat it in under an hour and don’t even want to go back and grind the achievements for the combine helm. Another boring zergfest with no challenge in my opinion.

I agree, superb character development. Perhaps she will giggle more next time.

Hopefully this was their way of writing her out and we never see her again and whatever dev is responsible for her and insisting she is a good character that people like is just being lied to with these promises of her coming back at some point.

Since I saw a criticism on the Living story achievements, and I thought it very correct, I wanted to see if other people are of an equal mind on the matter of achievements in general.

Most achievements at this time seem to be ‘farm x’, ‘kill y’, etc. They don’t require any skill and are usually extremely easy but very very time-absorbing. For example the obelisks for the krait historian living story achievement. So you want us to go find obelisks. The usual procedure: avoid any mobs, get to the objective, done.
Nothing about this is hard. Everything is repetitive.

My concern is that Anet mistakes ‘time-consuming’ for ‘challenging’. Sure visiting all these obelisks will waste away a few hours. Same goes for the seeds you have to give to Marjory. They aren’t hard to get, but the amount you need is so pathetic that you take a long period to finish it.

Achievements, however, could be fun, if they were challenging (yes they would still be time-consuming), but not repetitive. Instead of letting us kill ~200 mobs, let us solo bosses. For example, I don’t get why so few of the achievements were tied to the initial instance. That instance allowed a lot of personal tests and challenges, which would be found amusing to the general player, maybe frustrating at a certain point, but certainly not boring.

Do you (players and devs alike) think this is indeed a work point or not? Discuss away.

everything is easy because everything is timed, it goes away in 2 weeks so they want to give the casuals a chance to complete the meta. this is why temporary content is the cancer of this game

If you like it and think it’s worth it, buy it. If you don’t like it and think it isn’t worth it, don’t buy it. This is not a strange concept, and choices are a good thing to have.

And guess who will be getting tons of mini expansions for free for a year with possibility of future full expansions in future for whatever price and if not they will just turn out to be included as part of these said free mini updates?

i wasn’t implying i like WoW i never played it, always played the first GW. You ask anyone ingame about the expansion and they will tell you its overdue, the living story just isn’t fun and totally not a substitute

When there is group content, people complain that there isn’t a solo version. When you make solo content, people complain that there is no group version. When there is open world battles, people complain they want an instance. When you make an instance, people complain that they want it in open world.

it annoyed me last christmas the snow in lions arch was fake being sprayed by floating golems, in gw1 it was just normal snow and felt like it was just winter time

i assume they are saving all the cool stuff for the expansion, hence we get a boring sylvari as the main villain of the living story
