I did most of the HOT stuff with another friend, and we both co oped alot of the content. When she wasn’t around I did alot of it either myself or with random people showing up or posting on the LFG for help. But I eventually just got really good with my class and soloed some of the group stuff when no one was around to help.

I usually see squads getting formed in LFG, advertising for players to join them for hero point runs.

Why bring back a 9 month old thread?
There are more then enough ways to get the experience needed to fill up your masteries. Especially after all the patches that have gone throughout the months. I’m currently sitting at 170 mastery. The highest mastery you can get as of july/27/2016.

For one thing, you have to realize that gaining mastery is a one time thing. You don’t have to gain it ever again unless you plan on creating another account.

Along side doing the story, try your best to complete the map. As you roam about you’ll be gaining exp, getting loot, finding new events to do, and getting hero points for your character. This all contributes; especially since pretty much everything you do in this game rewards you with experience.

You’ll also get to a point where you’ll have sooo much experience, but not enough mastery points. So you’ll need to hunt down the mastery points regardless. You can also gain mastery points by completing many of the achievements that reward you with mastery points.

Doing adventures, which are mini games placed all throughout the map also reward you with lots of experience. And if you manage to get silver or gold, you’ll be rewarded with mastery points for the completing the achievement thats tied with it.

Also, if im not mistaken, because its been a while; doesn’t the story journal already tell you which mastery you’ll need next? I mean, i remember it blankly telling you which mastery is needed to progress in the story in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Just select that mastery, explore the world, complete the map, complete the mastery achievements, do events, do adventures, and if you have them pop some of those experience boosters that the game pretty much freely gives out. Even guilds have potions you can drink that reward you with extra experience for pretty much just playing the game.

Once you have all the mastery like I do, getting any more experience to finish any new mastery is a breeze. Like, i don’t even have to think about it.

Just keep in mind that the learning curve is quite high. More often then not your gonna keep asking yourself, “How did I just die?” “What in the world is even going on?” Or “Wow, that class is super op!”

That’s not learning curve, just the spammy, passive proc plagued nature of GW2 which got even worse with HoT.

Just know that the balance right now is actually pretty good.

So HoT specs kittenting on every build that existed before the expansion and having 1 viable build per class that operate on the same level or insanity is “good balance”?

To the OP: don’t even bother with it.

There is a learning curve. Knowing what the other classes can do, what the different condis are, what kind of boons are most helpful, the different things a class can do to escape or deal damage, etc. Spamming your abilities doesn’t mean your gonna win all the time. Its a bit more situational then that depending on class, build, if its a 1v1, 2v1, a full on team fight, etc.

If someone comes at your spamming all of their abilities, depending on the class and who they are fighting they can be out played. Like if a thief uses unload while a warrior uses his reflect block. Or if your spamming all your attacks on a rev with his glint heal up, or if you attack a mesmer with his shield up and end up giving him another extra block instead of just 1.

Id have to say if your mixing up your time doing structured pvp (arenas) joining a 1v1 hotjoin match (arena) and also doing world vs world, id say its worth it.

Just keep in mind that the learning curve is quite high. More often then not your gonna keep asking yourself, “How did I just die?” “What in the world is even going on?” Or “Wow, that class is super op!”

Don’t fret, we all had to go through with it. Just know that the balance right now is actually pretty good. Each class brings something worth value into a fight. And once you understand all the ins and outs of pvp you’ll be rekting people left and right.

New to GW2 - My thoughts so far

I agree with you. I also wish gw2 had a way to tell everyone in the party, squad, or open world event how they did at the end of completing something, and then shared that info for all to see. Lots of MMO’s do it. To me it just adds a bit of competitiveness to do your best while these different events are happening.

However, this idea has been brought up many times before. And most people don’t want it. They believe some players will abuse it, and use it as a way to justify kicking someone out of a group or point fingers at someone for holding the group back. On flip side, it’ll only encourage players to do better, or point out that a specific player is doing a great job and maybe even carrying the group.

Most of the trailers aren’t even trailers, there teasers. There is a difference. Their latest trailer was more of a recap of past events for those who don’t know whats happening with the story. Which feels more like they were playing it safe when it comes to generating any sort of hype.

Anet has always been vague with gw2. They don’t want to spoil the surprise of the reveal and want players to discover things on their own by logging in. But I can definitely see how that could also be hurting the game at the same time since it gives a face value impression that nothing is happening when thats simply not true.

How is GW2 now?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dragon.8762

Been playing since day 1, and still really enjoying it. I really feel like gw2 is one of the most misunderstood games I’ve ever played in terms of how diverse in opinion its community is and what people who barely play or have played think what game is about. With that said, the game has changed a lot since you last played it, it seems.

—Fractals have changed to make them quick and challenging the more levels you climb. There are 12 different ones, with challenge motes you can complete for collections. Theres even a special legendary backpiece item you can only get from Fractals once you complete the entire collection.

Fractals never killed dungeons. Its just a continuation of 5 man content that can change and provide far more flexibly for the devs to go crazy with different ideas on how they want to approach group instances. If your talking about making gold, you can still make gold doing dungeons. Just don’t expect to have to do the same dungeon a million times in one reset and have that be more gold then simply doing something else. Dungeons are now apart of a daily reward, and completing 8 rewards you with 5 gold plus all the gold you made when you did them. And this can be repeated as much as you want.

Legendary weapons are not required in any content in this game. Its just a skin with the added perk of having the ability to change the stat of the weapon whenever you want. Its like what….%5 increase in stats? If you have skill, you can easily do just as well if not better then the person with a legendary. Its just a long term goal for those that want it.

Plus, they recently added a collection track for every legendary in the game. Now you can craft your very own precursor weapon and use that to create a legendary, or buy it, or throw weapons into the mystic forge in the hopes you get a pre, or get it from random drops through the entire world.

Theres no solider class in the game, unless your talking about warrior. Rangers are in a very good place, and are viable in all content. Don’t let people tell you otherwise because if they do, they have no idea what they are talking about.

WvW is fine. Its getting alot of attention and the devs are always taking feedback on how to improve it.

There are lots of different builds people can create and play. You don’t have to follow a meta build. The meta is only there to bring out what is the most ideal, but only if your playing it correctly. Meta is something the players/ community come up with after many hours of testing and theorycrafting. But if you truly played you would understand that it honestly all comes down to skill and awareness. A trash build can still beat a meta build if played right. Its happened millions of times and will continue to do so. If its not working, stop torturing yourself and adapt.

Its not perfect, but what is? If your not curious to learn the ins and outs of why things are the way that they are, your just gonna continue to get mad.

High DPS solo PvE classes?

That depends, cause if your going into content with the highest dps (tempest) your going to have to deal with the fact that your defenses are going to be really low. Now if you want a solid all rounder I would suggest engineer or revenant.

Keep in mind though, you also gotta take into the account about using the most optimal dps rotation possible for that class, not just auto attacking, unless your playing revenant who auto attacks for the most part of their rotation.

But if you can survive with low defense id suggest again tempest or daredevil.

Although I highly doubt Palawa Joko is going to be apart of this current living story, I do believe he does have somewhat of a place in the deeper future of the current story.

The white mantle want to bring back Lazarus the mursaat. I believe they will succeed in this some how and bring him back. However the only way to see the mursaat, is to become ascended. The only place we know of where you can get ascended is the crystal desert. In the Crystal Desert, there lies the great dragon Kralkatorrik.

I think we’ll get to fight Kralkatorrik or meet him once we reach that place either before or after we get ascended. Then we have to find a Seer who will infuse our armor with spectral agony resistance so Lazarus doesn’t one shot everyone when we finally get to fight him.

While in the Crystal Desert its entirely possible Palawa Joko could show up. But thats very much unknown. Maybe Palawa also has problems with the dragon getting in his way, causing him not to cross the crystal desert himself. Maybe hes waiting for us to destroy Kralkatorrik before he invades and now we have the Elona expansion.

However, i doubt Elona will be the next expansion. Maybe the 4th. The next expansion might have us finally getting the chance to travel to the crystal desert. And when Elona does come out, I also doubt we’ll get to explore the entire place. Maybe like 3-5 large new maps or something.

Wow settle down folks geez… There are a few examples of this already in the game, not exactly 100% similar to your idea but close enough. The Overgrown grub by blue keep in EB, the Arboreal Spirit by Speldan in EB, and 4 veteran creature events wurm/varg/harpy/ascalonian ghosts on the borderlands. Also the Bloodlust ruins I guess are similar to what you propose except there is no npc to fight.

Problem is, most of the time these pve events are usually ignored except for when its a part of the daily and then its just done quickly so there wouldn’t be much interest in going further with these types of events.

Yes, but aren’t those events static? As in, they always spawn in the same places over and over again? My idea would purpose that the npc you would hunt down would possibly spawn in a random location and would walk and move around. A bit similar to Guild mission bounties. They won’t attack unless you activate it by talking to them.

Jeez, its obvious some of you still didn’t even read what I wrote. I’m just expressing an idea to encourage more small scale pvp fights around the entire map by giving players an objective to venture out. Increasing the rewards for something players are already gonna do (Attacking keeps, towers, and camps) isn’t going to incentivize anything, because players already do it. Its so more people will have reason to spread out and even venture into enemy territory other then looking randomly for fights aka the roamers.

You do realize while players are engaged in killing some stupid NPC in WvW, the enemy pounces on them like they are wearing meat suits? LOL

Thats exactly what I said in my first post. I encourage it. That same situation happens already with capturing towers, keeps, and camps. The difference being, this isn’t a tower, keep, or camp.

Dragon.8762

Let me rephrase what I wrote because I think some people just looked at my title and assumed the worst.

The main purpose is to give an objective out side of capturing areas on the map while also incentivizing more people to spread out either solo or in small groups around the different WvW zones. The current pve stuff that most of you have already seen has nothing like this. It mainly consists of just that, capturing areas or killing a vet for very small rewards that aren’t even worth it.

This is to encourage more small pvp fights since, along the way of roaming for your bounty you’re bound to run into an enemy player and vice versa. If anything, it’ll give players a direction to head towards while they are out there.

(Idea) NPC bounty system

in WvW

Posted by: Dragon.8762

Dragon.8762

So I personally haven’t done a whole lot of WvW as of recent but plan on doing it alot more in the future. But as I was thinking about, I kept wondering what are some things that could be added into WvW that would make it a bit more attractive for more people to participate in, other then capturing keeps, towers, and camps?

So I was thinking why not give players more incentive to explore the lands either solo or in small groups by introducing a NPC bounty system where players take up a bounty board before entering into the pvp zones where they can seek out and kill a semi powerful npc with a bounty on his/her head? The reward being faster progression through the WvW reward tracks along with some loot bags and badges of honor.

It’ll split a few people away from following the zergs all the time and have them exploring the lands looking for their selected bounty. While they are searching it’ll encourage a lot more small scale fights amongst the roamers who are either seeking their own bounties or simply other players they want to kill.

It’ll be even more exciting when a player finally finds his bounty only to get jumped by another player who is seeking to kill him while the first is only after his/her bounty. Creating a spontaneous fight situation where the player must now have to worry about killing the bounty and the player.

Anyways I wanted to hear other peoples thoughts on this. I know some people would rather have less pve in their pvp game mode, but from my perspective; this is pve that encourages more pvp. And please don’t turn this into “oh heres a pve player wanting to turn wvw into a pve farm house.” I’ve been playing since first closed beta and have played an enjoyed all game mode and will continue to do so. This is just an idea.

In spvp revs are one of the top classes and are brought in every pro league tournament. Just because Anet came out with raids doesn’t mean thats all they are gonna focus on. Take a chill pill. 6 devs on raids, and the rest are working on other things.

And even so, you must all remember that this is only 1 raid. 1 raid broken into 3 wings. Just because they introduced it periodically doesn’t mean its there new number one focus. MMO’s are about variety of play, not just one game mode. Otherwise its not much of an MMO.

Perhaps some may think it is unnecessary, and while I agree, I think this fits better thematically. The implementation is incorrect, in my opinion. Why give random champ bags and molten stuff? Why not give obsideon or mystic coins or things relevant to crafting a legendary or precursor as intermediate rewards or if you do want to keep champ boxes and Tx gemstones why not make them fit better to all of the legendary/precursor weapons and not just Incinerator?

Would very much like to hear the logic behind this choice.

I agree. Get rid of the molten stuff in the reward track and replace it with smaller items needed to craft a legendary instead. Mystic coins would be great here. It’ll help reduce its ridiculous current price.

I expect a huge number of people set foot into the first raid initially because they wanted to see what the first GW2 raid was like. I’m not sure how relevant that is.

How many people do still spend how much time in raids now? How many people have beaten the two raid wings?

Personally, I’ve beat my head against the first one to finally beat the Vale Guardian once and not any more since.

Just look at the raid finder and see for yourself. Or join a guild that advertises for raid runs. My guild, including myself just beat all of Wing 1 in under an hour. It could have been done faster if we didn’t wipe a few times. But its totally possible. I’d still highly recommend looking up the mechanics of the raids first, as they introduce some stuff not seen anywhere else in the game.

The rewards are really good. High tier crafting drops, ascended weapon drops, shards (which can be used to get ascended armor without having to craft them) and more.

Raid wing 3 just further confirms that the white mantle are going to be one of the main focuses for living story 3; the old enemies that were present in gw1. And since this is the last wing to the entire raid we should be seeing legendary armor finally being introduced into the game soon, as well as living story 3. Maybe in july.

I got all that, just from this small teaser. And the fact that most of you don’t know that just means that whether you hate it or not; you are all missing out.

How do you know all that from an 8 second clip? As far as I know the raid and LS are completely separate. And believe me I wish I could raid. But sadly I don’t. My only source to get Asc armor is fractals and right now im working up my AR lvl so I can tier 4.

Because Anet said Living story 3 would come out soon after Wing 3 of the raid was complete. Most people are speculating it’ll come out in July.

How to fix GW2s end game problem...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dragon.8762

Dragon.8762

The only people that should be complaining about an endgame problem are the people who’ve done everything the game has to offer and are currently awaiting for more because, i guess its taking too long to produce more content? Compared to every MMO ever that encounters the same issue but some how people seem to forget???

Just because you choose not to pvp or pve has nothing to do with it. Its like, here we have a game that lets you play what you want because you feel like it, and you got people here saying “I did all the pve content, (or so they believe) i want more content.” Well what about pvp? “I don’t pvp, so this game has no content.”

First you gotta remember that this is an MMORPG. Its a genre that trys to cover all these different aspects of other more focused games into one. Its not going to do it perfectly, because its not gonna be completely focused on just one aspect. For example, if you want great story telling go play Mass effect or the witcher because thats what those games specialize in. If you want great pvp matches and thats all you care about, go play smite or overwatch because those games specialize in that.

The biggest thing MMO’s specialize in, is variety of play. Variety in a persistent world. If Mass effect had this, it wouldn’t be as great of a single player story because they have to alter it to have it make sense with all these other people running around and DLC would have to be delayed due to server issues trying to accommodate other players etc.

Cantha or Elona in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dragon.8762

Dragon.8762

It’s not hard to tell that gw2 will continue to see new content. You can easily tell by just looking at the map. Many sections can not be traveled too. With this in mind, it would be an absolute mistake not to have Elona or Cantha considering so many people are asking for it and it is apart of the guild wars lore. Going there, just has to make sense. And right now, it doesn’t completely just yet.

Before gw2 came out, gw1 actually had its own version of living story. It was called “Guild Wars Beyond.” If you look it up on the wiki, you can come up with your own guesses on how those story lines could impact and turn out to be if we re-visit them in gw2.

Cantha: Winds of change; and the Ministry of Purity. Minister Reiko and her vision of achieving true perfection for her people while removing all the afflicted monsters out of Cantha. Currently Cantha is cut off from the rest of the world because the current Emperor wants it to be that way. And the sailing route is blocked off by Zhaitan’s minions.

Elona: Palawa Joko; he is still alive and doing who knows what in Elona. He was originally supposed to be expanded upon in gw1, but that content was cancelled. Could we potentially see that content in a future fractal? And then after that some living story that eventually lead to Elona? Maybe. But first we’d have to defeat the Dragon Kralkatorrik. Once hes gone, can we travel to Elona and finally face off against Palawa and free that entire continent.

However, in a group like in raids, your just providing boons, dps, and breaking bars. In other group content I always feel safe enough to just rush into fights and rekt stuff on my own compared to other classes.

So I’ve been stocking up on mats for crafting for a while now, and have been hoping to use these mats to create things I’ll need/ or would like to craft later on. However despite saving up so much, my gold count doesn’t move that much.

So my question is, would it be better to sell my crafting mats? Or should I sell everything for gold? Would a high gold count be just as good as having the mats? Or should I have lots of gold instead, so I can just buy the mats outright?

Just a suggestion, but I think it would increase sales for these “toys” if you could actually fly with them similar to gliders. Gliding around with a magic carpet and the broom would look so cool along side having to use them to run around with.

Nah, steam won’t do anything other then provide an overlay when you press shift + tab and taking screenshots. I use steam to launch all of my games, including Guild Wars 2 so my friends see what I’m playing.

The teams are separate bruh, which means if the gemstore guys create new stuff it has nothing to do with development on the game. Plus, Anet’s a business. Gotta make money some how.

The title says it all. The npc once the event is over can’t be interacted with to purchase the Ancient Orrian Urn. Its the last one I need to complete the Bolt: 1 The Experimental Sword collection. I believe lots of people are also complaining/ having the same issue as well.
