I have an idea, instead of complaining about how certain guilds setup their permissions and proposing a solution that would forceably change everyone, how about you talk to the offending guilds in question instead of needlessly merging permissions.
This is why we cant have nice things.

Not reading entire thread, but I would play paids more if they refunded tickets for losing.
I don’t find it time effective to go into a paid match for the cost of 5 tickets to only likely play one round.
If I play 1 round of paids I should get 3 tickets back

3 rounds 0 tickets back (note that winners are getting Gems and QP’s)essentially lower the barrier of entry down to 2 tickets a try if I keep losing. If I cant keep playing when I keep losing all I’m going to do is go into free.
Reducing the entry cost is a good idea. Doing it in this fashion goes against everything that is fundamental to a tournament system with entry fees however.
Consolation prizes are not against the fundamentals of a tourny system.
People are supposed to do the paid tournies to get qualifier points. So as I see it, either you make it a full swiss system (and thus I may be more inclined to play paids as there will probably be a team in it I can beat), or you reduce the cost for people that can only make it a single round.
If you lose in the first round you still lose 2 tickets. It isnt free. It will allow a lot more people to participate, and frankly participation is one of the main problem right now in paids. Also you still have to front the 5 tickets initially.
Right now the winners get free rides to keep playing, while players that really need the games to improve are being shut out. Its plainly not fostering proper competition, constantly thinning the availible player pool and making for very long queue times.
Besides, adjusting the reward slightly in that way can be done very quickly on anets end, making the paids a full swiss system will probably take much longer.

What exactly is wrong with people that are new to the system joining it? Point is you need to encourage people that are willing to lose to play so they can get better. Right now the better players get to play 2-3 rounds of the tournaments on average while the players that are learning are round in and out with very little to gain. The players that are already good at the game are getting better while the players that arnt are relegated to using free and stomping pug groups.
People cant L2P at a high level if doing so is costly.
The barrier to entry for the losing teams needs to be lower. 5 tickets to play one match is a very expensive proposition and a big part of the reason you don’t see a lot of people in paids.
I personally consider playing against really good opponents is a good way to learn. A tpvp queue that’s popping more often is a benefit to the top level teams as it is for your casual pvper that wants to get better at the game.
There is nothing wrong with people getting destroyed in paids.
I don’t see the logic in your train of thought, If playing longer and more overall is going to increase competition, why not ENACT THAT and allow people to play longer.

The truth is DR and Kain with the help of FC held each other in T8 for 9 weeks. While DR was holding Kain there and Kain was holding DR, DR was focusing all their effort on stopping kain from gaining points and forced Kain into last place. When DR left T8 it left a huge power vaccum in the tier, which Kains original force was powerful enough to fill.
It took Kain 2 weeks to get out of the deficit DR put them in. Now we are in T7, and we will be here only one week.
The problem is the rating system actually, as soon as two servers are competative with each other they can stall in a tier and prevent each other from advancing, even if both servers are improving in population in tactics. Once the stalemate breaks and one server gets out of the teir, they EXPLODE up the rankings.
No one is in charge of setting the matchups, they are determined by a servers rating. Click the sticky at the top of the forum it tells you how it works.

How anet will handle it is they will ban him for 3 days for his behavior. If he continues to exhibit that behavior after he returns he can be banned for a longer duration or have his account closed.

Add to that the pet sometimes goes invulnerable underwater, meaning the ranger can res tank any underwater point as long as he wants if the bug occurs.

Its a bug. A very technical one having to do with you and the invitee being on a different physical server than your home server i imagine, but a bug non-the-less.
What I do is have them join my party instead of having me invite them. That way I only have to accept the join request and it saves my typing their names (that may or may not be complicated).

Incorrect. It takes skill to handle downstate.
You might personally dislike it, but its there and you have to account for it. If you fail to account for it, you are failing that skillset.
Removing downstate removes depth from the combat system. Sure it might be depth that you do not like, as you seem to think it means easy comebacks and more advantages to players you should defeat, but I think of it as another tool in my basket.

Except thats not true. 3 way battles are not the best possible option for balance.
There is nothing in your post that would suggest that a 3 way battle is superior to a 4 way battle. lets look at it logically here.
If you say that a 3 way limits a single servers population advantage by forcing them to fight on two fronts is a good thing. Lets take it a step further, why is it no longer a better thing if they have to fight 3 servers, and at this point I would say its more likely even with smaller populations that servers C B and D might have more total combined population than server A thus preventing server A from taking the entirty of the map overnight.
In addition with more servers in the mix it is more likely an opponents server will have a ‘night crew’ (i put it in quotes because often the ‘night crew’ is just another timezones primetime crew) further preventing a single server from getting a runaway advantage when other servers dont have populations.
And lets move down the list, so in a 4 server system server A’s population is cut thrice, not just in half.
With a 4 way split you will only have to regain 1/3rd of the points you would normally would have to to catch up.
So why is a 3 way best when using your logic you are using determines that 4 is better than 3. And you can stretch it out to 5 is better than 4 etc.
Also consider the fact in a 3 way matchup it is more likely to have a dead server in that matchup cause one server to completely explode in points as the matchup becomes 1 on 1, meaning even a minor population advantage on one servers side can cause the point totals to heavily favor one side. In a 4 way system if one server doesnt show up in a meaningful way you fall back to a 1v1v1 where you can get some pushback on population imbalances because of the double front war.
From a pure game design scenerio i find 4 way matchups more fun. No server becomes a third wheel in a fight, and its harder for kingmaker scenerios to occur.

The data listed in the quote is data that only has to be sent once, and is irrelevent to the reasons culling exists.
While there can be client options for texture caching reasons to help lower end pc’s it is actually irrelevent how much one time data is sent to each client overall.
Culling exists because the bandwidth loads of sending updates about X number of people (where X is the current culling limit) is taxing the server to its maximum capacity before lag really kicks in at crushing levels.
The perishable data (someones position, velocity, and direction, plus their actions) is what loads the system.
The unperishable data, what armor set, what colors, what weapon, only needs to be sent once, and thus isnt taxing. The difference here between not sending and sending it is probably only a couple of bytes per person.

Its very hard to track 10 different targets in a fight. While KS has a long animation it can be done when the warrior is out of your FoV. On the subject of skill though, I would say you were very skillful if you can track all 10 targets and only dodge abilities that will spell your doom.

I think i have it figured out reasonably well, see my above scenario, i could bank on a tw stomp working but if it doesnt come off ive wasted tw for no gain(with still 2 players up, as the scenario played out i used tw to drop player 2) or i could try a distortion stomp to negate the focus DPS i will take when i stand still for 3 seconds to stomp with distortion. Distortion unfortunately doesnt grant me stability so just 1 knockback, pull, knockdown and ive wasted that as well.
You could argue that i should have tried the tw stomp anyway, but its a gamble, i can go ‘the here and now’ lets try and finish this thief by burning everything and hope i can pull through against the other 2 players or as it turns out i chose to hold it out and dropped player 2 with it. Had i used it to stomp im not sure i would have been able to drop that player with a lot of my stuff on cool down that i burned to stomp a player that has already been defeated because he chose to burn 90% of his initiative spamming hs to catch me.
Often when i’m in an outnumbered situation ill be looking to control the enemy team to prevent them from rezzing, while preventing downed players from healing themselves. Rarely i go for invun stomps. Often my damage is enough to finish them off while i’m preventing the lone enemy from attempting to res. If someone attempts to res you can shatter burst him again, hitting both the downed player and the live player at the same time.
If your in a 3v1 situation its usually best to just book it, unless you severely outmatch them or can groupshatter them because they carelessly clumped. In other RPG games there are healers, and you walking into 2 dps and 1 healer would get you killed without you doing much in downing anything unless the healer was dumb.
In the situation you outlined I would have gone for an quickness invun stomp, then retreated out of the fight. if you didnt tw then the thief is going to tp on you and stop the stomp. You ended up burning tw anyway and not getting away, so you misplayed your hand, which is a demonstration of a lack of skill.
Part of the skill in wvw is learning when to fight, when to stomp, when to flee, or when you are forced to fight to the death and how to make the best out of it.

Its just aiming your throw. The toss ability is camera aimed, so the more you look up the farther it flies. To help counter it y ou should have a player play goalie and try to guard the goal.

sPvP isn’t a skills-based game either. It’s all about bunker builds and who can turtle on a point the longest.
This game is still very much about certain builds and team comps more so than actual skill.
Its skill based.
Name a game that isnt very much about certain builds and team comps? Min maxing happens in EVERY SINGLE GAME. And you do it if you want to win.
Playing an RTS? Pump out the same units pretty much every match?
Playing League of Legends and following the metagame much?
Playing gw1 and running 2 monks?
Playing Gw2 and running bunkers?
Picking up the same weapons every time in counterstrike?
If you can customize people will always gravitate to the things that tend to win. Metagames develop and matches are decided by skill. If you and your opponent/opponents are running the same build/setup, the team that wins would be deemed the most skilled in a competative format. sPvP has that. You win sPvP because you were better than your opponent.
On the same token saying downstate detracts from skillful play is a misnomer. These ‘skilled’ people that seem to whine about it are people that have the dps figured out but dont have the next important part of the game figured out is finishing enemies. It can be done, has been done, and you should learn how to do it instead of resorting to rubbish whining on the forums.
As for me I use the downstate in wvw to help us win fights where we are outnumbered.

It will be a few weeks though before we get challenged on population I feel. Based on how DR has moved up. I think with the transfers we got were probably at a stronger position than DR is at population wise and coverage wise, we are almost sure to catch up with them and meet them in a higher teir wherever they begin to stall.

Reworking the structure for a complete culling overhaul is indeed time consumeing and “binding” lot of resources & manpower, I would agree.But players asking for a fast & simple fix to culling, just to be able to eliminate the Tactical problems they get with invisible players. In short:
Some ugly tag/nameplate/indicator shown is better compared to haveing to deal with invisible enemies.
(optional..for those who dont like to lose their “immersion” in pve…)
Would also give the team way more options to “delay timeline” for the real fix and wouldnt “tie” the “whole” team to 1 issue….rockstars or not.
Its about focus on a fast and maybe simplistic fix first, before “tieing” the whole team into a major overhaul……and being able to see mosquitos and the moa-duo at deepwaters bridge while players get culled…
tells me there are some easy and simple fixes at hand ;D
That is not a simple fix, that is the most complicated part of the fix.
What a person is wearing, the colors he chose, the weapon he is using is all data that is only sent once.
His location, his skill usage, status effects are what culling is about, because this data is actually expensive in bandwidth and cpu usage. If you switch to nameplating, these things would still have to be sent.
Basically your suggestion doesnt fix a thing in a simple way. And you need to realize that.

Mesmers pull is one of the few abilities that can help you break a camp in a jumping puzzle as well.
Its positives outweigh its negatives and provides a useful function for the mesmer in a tower siege which mainly consists of using TC and dropping Time Warp on siege.

There are serious skill factors involved here. You as an attacker can change how you utilize skills so they will be dodged less. The person getting shot at can try to avoid the shots. There is nothing wrong here.

The problem is there are a lot of times you DONT want to trigger an upgrade. As it can drain supply from a keep when you have no hope of really keeping it without using that supply to build siege weapons.

Its how their WvW system is setup. When you are on another server you cannot do anything except report. When you join WvW you are technically on another server.
I’m sure they are trying to fix it, but it might not be high on the list of fixes needed to be done for WvW.

Yeah I think they fixed one of the two routes into that keep. Its a start at least. Should report anyone abusing it, its an obvious exploit.

Not quite, they didnt rule out changes to UI or changes to the commander system. They were talking about why it was in its current state and that they plan to improve it, while changes can be considered unlikely, we might be suprised.
And habib wants live scoring as soon as possible, but there are probably other priorities for the web team at the moment.
Also WvW hasnt been ‘totally ignored’.
The only thing thats totally gamebreaking in wvw is culling, and we already have evidence that they are working on a fix, but its a lot more difficult than we seem to understand.
