Fact is, if a server owns the entire map, it probably will spawn camp because owning everything is boring and enemies spawns are were you are going to find fights.

Put down an arrow cart/ballista on the invunerability line and fire away.
Thats what we did, plus utilized pulls and baiting tactics to make people walk into the legendary defenders. Consering its mostly ‘baddies’ that spawn camp its pretty easy to bait them (esp as a warrior). I used a specific build to lure NSP/BP/Fergie spawncampers into our guards.
Endure pain (and trait) shield 5, stability can all let you bait for long enough to get them greedy.

I was spawncamped for months on kaineng, and yeah sure its hard to take things, but you got a free badge farm just steps away from your spawn point.
If you want to go around the camp its pretty easy to as well, especially on the borderlands map.

Healing has a predictable pattern to it, just need to learn it. It isnt pure ‘random’.
If you are zergballingit it might SEEM random, but it isnt. They also added another check to the heal as it wont heal minions/summons over players anymore.

no probs Yaro the link wasn’t aimed at you at all I’d been looking for the original thread for a while and finally found it. I can appreciate to a wvw team with a certain setupt you may have found it improved but I wanted to get the original thread back in as I remember many thinking it was unpopular.
anyway what I was about to post is the census of the first 3 pages of the linked thread. there were a few neutral opinions and non commital responces that were left out.

I guess this post means culling won’t be fixed. Since everyone I know including myself has a top of the line system and this has nothing to do with computer performance.
Many of us tested this extensively. A thief going in and out of stealth on a mostly empty server with NO ONE around for miles other than myself will have 2-3 seconds of extra invisibility. This thief was a buddy so we were testing this.
The general consensus after the trial is that this system lead to a better player experience in WvW.
Thanks for your hard work on all this but honestly what feedback were you looking at? That change made things so much worse. I saw nothing but negative feedback.
Tests showed that enemies were loading when they were 20 feet away rather than the usual couple hundred when out in the middle of nowhere far away from groups of players. Tests were done using friends who were on other enemy servers.

Everyone hated the culling trial, please don’t revert back to that.
This is patently wrong though.
After they ended the culling trial people said the system after the trial was WORSE than the trial on the forum, even though after the trial it was changed back to the same culling as before the trial.
And frankly I agree with them, the culling trial at least let you see your enemy on a more consistent bases. And plus its antizergball code because if there are too many enemies you can only see a limited number of allies, so if you zergball you actually are at a disadvantage.

There is some hard to track bug that prevents the devs from making them account bound at the moment. (Breaks skill #2 when you pull a blueprint out).
You can pass them by using the drop bundle button and a trusted friend.

Player isnt botting, but doing something mundane and stupid, and gets banned for it with the reason as “botting”.

You would have to mine a LOT of ori to make up for the gold cost of a character slot.
Currently it costs 656 orichalcum ore for a character slot. Considering the rich orichalcum averages a production of 15 orichalcum ore per run (+ some random orbs, but were not going to bother with that because :effort:, and i’m also discounting the cost of the pick here too (also see :effort:)).
It would take 44 days of farming for a single character to return its investement.
in this time period ori can continue to drop in price or the devs might fix the unintended behaviour.
This does not take into account the effort it takes to get a level 2 to that node, and kite the champion karka away from it so you dont die on it.

I will admit I haven’t watched [WM] videos. I’m going to venture a guess and say the reason they don’t 1v1 is generally because they would lose? I mean, you can slice it any way you want, but ultimately you’re saying the same thing, “we can’t win a fair fight, so somehow we have to tip the scales”. This is what I’ve observed on part of [WM] in this match, and given that observation, I’m not sure I want to watch their videos.
If all things were equal WM would lose the 1 on 1 because they have to deal with an oceanic ping.
Really a US player vs a Korean player isnt a fair match from the start, they have to play better than you to win because they cant reflex certain things. If you want to experience this transfer to a Euro server for a bit, though US→Euro isnt as bad as Oceanic→US.

Just because you had it for a few months doesnt mean the name is okay. Often it takes a few reports before CS looks at it, and if you are not playing that character very often, there is only a little time you are exposed to getting reported.
You need to ride this one out, if you cannot see how that name is innapropriate, I suggest you open your eyes a little bit more.

I think there are some known bugs with transmutated items that are being addressed in the 28th patch concerning the dye system. Try it after the 28th.

The best solution is to add more sound sliders to the game, let people chose what parts of the game they want to or don’t want to hear.
Don’t line bell sound effects or mad king thorn jokes, put in a sound slider for that.

I don’t know if we really lack skill.
Its just super hard to show any skill when you run over people with 10 times their number.
Also I tend to not like spawncamping because defending things is more my thing. When there isn’t anything to defend I’m just leveling alts and catching up on pve (and working on my legendary, only 390 gold to go!).

The reason ecto got so cheap was the snowflake exploit that flooded the market with ill produced ecto. Even if the ecto didnt all make it to the tp directly some of it fulfilled otherwise unfulfilled demand. What we are seeing now is the price slowly returning to equalibrium.
Equalibrium is about 33-34 silver. There was a point in time it spiked above that but then legit ecto producting methods became known and supply in ecto spiked. depressing the market for a bit. then the snowflake exploit hit which dropped the price of an ecto down to 24 silver. Right now our buy order/sell order rates are about equal to what they were before.

There’s your problem. WvW isn’t about kills. It’s about playing for the objectives. They’re not going to balance the game around one person’s gripes about how many kills they don’t get.
i thought that game should be balanced in all scenarios (1v1,1v2,5v10,20v20)
and dont forget about low rank tier serwer where most of the fight looks like this (2-5 man grups)
Games actually balanced around group play not solo play. There is some consideration to solo balance but not as much.

Stab stomps, ele’s, guardians, necromancers, warriors

quick stomps, thief, mesmer, ranger, warrior, engineer
So you need to plan your 3v1 a bit better.
Or you can play a game with healers and never ‘down’ anyone to half health with the healer around.

I found the method they use to follow Jang around. Every WM party targets Jang and they get a big red circle above his head they can easily follow. Thats how they move quickly in and out of fights without much tussle, and its also why they look like ‘bots’ when running around, every WM player knows where their leader is at all times.

This is the problem: People using aoes effectively against single targets when they have the OPTION of single target attacks. (staff ele does not qualify, staff necro does not qualify, thief shortbow qualifies)
So Terra, do you think clusterbombs usefulness compared to other shortbow abilities should be addressed? Right now its more efficient for the thief to clusterbomb a downed enemy than it is to attempt a finish as a shortbow thief, while doing large amounts of damage to anyone attempting a res.
This is not correct. First off, since Trick Shot bounces, in the case of 1 rezzer it is often better to just Trick Shot spam the rezzer, since they will get hit twice.
Second, the frequency with which you can fire Cluster Bomb depends on how far away you are, the closer you are to the target the quicker you can spam it. So if you’re going to stop someone from getting a downed player up, you really need to be pretty close to them, or your Cluster Bomb dps will be laughable. This gives them the option of, you know, hitting you back.
Third, shortbow Thieves often choose dpsing the downed player to finish them not because it’s quicker (it’s actually slower in most cases), but because it’s safer, and more reliable than attempting a stomp as shortbow Thief — if you’re built around shortbow, you’re not very good at stomps, and your options for interrupting revives are limited at best. Your survivability is built around mobility, meaning it goes out the window when you self-root for a stomp. Meanwhile, a backstab Thief has the option of either stealth-stomping the downed player, or just insta-gibbing the rezzer. The shortbow is undeniably better at AoEing down groups of players trying to rez a downed player, but it’s often the case that you can’t actually do enough damage and they all just get up and walk away. Anyway, the idea that we’d need to nerf a weapon built for AoE because it is good at AoEing groups of players down is strange to say the least.
Finally, if the problem were with Cluster Bomb, the solution should be to fix Cluster Bomb. Nothing the devs have said indicates that they believe this is specific to Cluster Bomb, and everything they have said points toward AoE in general.
Where did the devs specifically say they would nerf an aoe weapon that only does aoe?
While they are talking in general terms about aoe abilities vs single target, clusterbomb falls into that category.
I also think you underestimate the damage clusterbomb does. The thieves in my guild use it point blank, and its the go to ability for dealing with any situation where your enemy is likely to take the hit. If they want to mash a group of people its cb, cb, cb, cb, daggerstorm to let init recharge, cb, cb, cb while running lifesteal food to maintain survivability while your doing that. Cluster bomb does a very high amount of damage, its an offender. For shortbow thieves skills 2-4 hardly get used.
The reason I bring it up is because I think its a skill the devs are likely going to change based on their criteria. It wont be the only skill, but its far better than whining on the forums about how staff eles are going to get nerfed to oblivion.
Do you think any ability on the staff ele bar needs a damage reduction? I don’t really see it.
But I see other classes when they have aoe options vs single target options where they are preferring to spam the aoe over and over with no consideration to tactical play. AOE skills with channels might not be changed at all, as it locks you into casting it, but the fire and forget or fire and spam aoes might be changed. (I do see staff 5 being changed to you have to continue the channel for it to continue to drop, right now it seems unintended you can cancel the channel early and still get the damage)

You know what changes battle outcomes more than AOE? Culling issues
after Mesmer bombing. Fix that, then worry about AOE.
They should worry about AOE or the balance of all abilities in relation with each other. There is as separate team working on culling. They shouldn’t stop work just because culling isn’t fixed yet. Besides there in the next update they are addressing one concern, slow loading of models out of invis and culling.

Lol i feel sad for my ele.
Not only we’re the squishiest and we’re forced to run bunker builds with a kittenton of toughness and vit and healing power in PvP to not be roflstomped in 5 seconds but over 90% of our skills are AoE which are so flashy only a kitten would stay in them and get hit, our single targets suck and for some reason we get nerfed again and again.
Other professions do easier what we do with too much effort to bother and yet there are still people who cry eles are op. I guess ele’s gonna be an exclusive profession for a selected few pro masochists who play ele well but obviously would play other classes 2 or 3 times better.
No one said only bunker will be viable after adjustments, stop overreacting, make an honest assesmet on where the skill balance is wrong instead of assuming the worst.

Problem is, we don’t know the details and what abilities they are exactly changing. Also anet doesn’t know at this point either so were in a pointless speculation cycle assuming the worst. Were not giving any valuable feedback to arenanet here, just pointless crying and public worry that my aoe class is going to get the nerfbat in some way.

So instead of doing pointless worst case scenario, ill bring up one aoe ability that seems to break all of anets guidelines.

Does anyone here think clusterbomb spam is currently fine as is? I certainly think its the most overused and overpowered skill on a sb thiefs bar, so much so that the other abilities on the shortbow are hardly worth using, just skills 1 and 5, and not even 1 most of the time.

I think the devs are seeing a problem that some aoes are so much better than single target abilities on the same weapon that you would rather aoe than attack the ressing or downed player with single target abilities.
One example of this is theifs clusterbomb. It so outclasses the other weapon skills on a thiefs bar that most thieves will prefer to clusterbomb spam if they can, single target? clusterbomb, lots of target, clusterbomb. I think the devs want to make it so you are more efficient to use single target attacks against single targets, than an aoe against a single enemy.

Saying they failed is a bit wrong.
There isn’t much you can do to hold a supply camp outnumbered like that. Instead it becomes your job to delay the superior force as long as possible so your team can retake or take other objectives on the map.
They succeeded in holding that zergs attention, and as a bonus sending a good number of them back to base where they would have to spend additional time running back. Look at the entire time the fight took, now that’s an extra 25 people on their team taking objectives for that time period.
Any time you can stall a larger force with a smaller one, its a win. If AR just left the supply camp and ignored the small team and refused to be delayed by it, then they would have lost.

This is true now, this was true when Devonas Rest was spawncamping Kaineng for weeks on end. This was true when NSP was taking turns with Borlis Pass to spawn camp Kaineng every other week. This was true when Fergusons Crossing was spawn camping Kaineng as well.
Though I must say I’m highly tempted to build a wall of ballista’s at DR’s spawn…

3 million copies of GW2 sold is totally meaningless if not many people continue to log in on a daily basis.
Population has no real effect on the price of a given good in a videogame. (except in instances of extremely rare supply)

@toble, Kaineng has been on the other side of that fence with WAR (different one) and iSPY who came down into our server preached server loyalty, recruited our new players from PvE very heavily, then at the first internal squabble when KAIN got upset, they packed ship and left a few days later for “reasons”.
All oldschool kaineng at least know how it is. But there isn’t much we can do to control it as its peoples individual choices that make this stuff happen. For kainengs sake though with free transfers closing the 28th were going to be locked with who we get for the most part

I like how people focus entirely on the aoe side thinking that will kill small group play, when they have a significant buff for defenders in there where defeated people are forced to respawn.
We dont know how the AoE changes will work out. I do sort of agree that some Aoe Abilities are doing far too much damage right now. So it depends how anet handles this, hopefully carefully.

That was impossible, there had to be a free transfer period as people had to settle into their servers. Yes it was a bit longer than it should have been, but its ending. Its not arenanets fault certain people want to jump servers before it ends.
It might take a few weeks for ioj to fall where it belongs but once your there it should still be a fun and engaging wvw experience, a lot more room for small gang warfare in the lower tiers.
Perhaps you should just take a break from the game for a few weeks and let IoJ settle in where it belongs before coming back in (no subscription).
