I assume you are talking about CD and EB. EB received some transfers last night, hence the high PPT we maintained.

which is commendable for a server that is almost always outnumbered 3 to 1.

The absolute worst trait in a commander is blaming everything on numbers.

“We are outnumbered 3 to 1”
“I need more numbers on my sigil”
“Everyone rally on me”

These are great quotes for discovering what commanders I will never follow. A good commander would sludge through his / her responsibilities regardless if he / she has nobody or 50 players with him / her.

I wanted to further discuss a couple of ideas. Firstly, several posts have called for reduced map caps in WvW. The problem that would create is that we’d be allowing even fewer people to play in a given period of time if we were to do that. So I wonder if there is another way to accomplish the same goal, while not disenfranchising people who would now be unable to get into the maps? It’s a hard problem because the more populated servers face long queues while the less populated ones face empty maps. From my perspective there aren’t a ton of good options, which is why discussing this problem is pretty important.

I don’t understand… It seems your solution is written into the post itself?

Do you not think population imbalances are a problem? If you are not even willing to acknowledge that then this thread is a collosal waste of time.

I would never ever change runes of the traveller for runes of speed.

If you are running healway;
Zerging: Soldier (doesn’t really matter).
Roaming: Traveller
Small scale GvG’s: 4x rage + 2x water or monk
Large scale GvG’s: Don’t run healway.

If you are looking for more general advice on healway there are many other sources of information you can go to, but if you want my advice tell me what aspect of WvW (of the ones listed above) is most important to you, and how many players you expect to be running with.

I know who that is, but I’m not saying it publicly.
Before you say “EBay is full of hackers”, remember its just a few certain people who do it, so don’t be all whining about the server.

Before you ask people not to consider whole server of being hackers, you should make sure that player of that server won’t be ignoring this kind of behavior and instead would give us his name and kindly ask him to stop doing that. If the server population is doing nothing about players like that then it looks like they are fine with it with it which casts a shadow of the integrity of the server itself.

I am sure EB doesn’t need people abusing strategies like these to end up doing really well.

If you don’t want to say his name publicly, then write a private message, send an in-game mail and/or ask him to stop it. Commander abusing stuff like that is really really sad.

I wasn’t going to bring it up, but if we’re gonna make a huge kitten of this DB, then kindly ask your “select few” people to leave our Teamspeak. No less than three times on opening night did entire zergs of DB halt and drop everything they were doing to go pouring back into SM the moment it was announced that we had plants of various professions in there after losing it to you guys. Two of those times they literally ceased sieging a tower. Just up and turned away like a flock of spooked birds only seconds after it was mentioned on TS. Once is coincidence, twice is suspicious, third time is confirmation of former suspicions. Every server has a few gate hackers, it’s simply a given since not all people share the same moral code, but if you ask me spies are even sleazier. Especially for a server in a match that really doesn’t even need the extra help.

All that said, I wish you luck in your endeavor of tracking down our gate assailant. Even if it isn’t a ban-able offense (and wrongfully so I might add). Frankly, we’re better than that and this person needs weeded out and ostracized as the bad that he/she is.

Edit: Yes, we do have preventative measures in place for spies, but it’s REALLY annoying when we have to stop whatever we’re doing and perform a full Teamspeak purge.

I don’t think there were spies in our TS. Either that or DB just didn’t care about losing SM on reset night because some poor guardian was chasing me around for 15 minutes before I ported in our zerg and nobody else on DB seemed to mind.

We know there are problems here, but again this condition helps those conditionmancers get over the top and is really what brought them into play in a lot of parts of the game. I think the real problems with this trait are:
1) Having to put 30 points into the power line as a condition necro.
2) Requiring crit on a 30 point trait in a line that does nothing to improve crit chance.

We talk about a lot of different versions of this trait including moving to master tier, making it on hit instead of on crit, and reworking the numbers to making it more reliable to use and to counter.

All of this back and forth could upset a lot of balance, but if this moved down to master tier Terror would almost certainly be moving up to grandmaster to accommodate. At least then condition necromancers would be 20/30/x/x/x, which just makes so much more sense. The biggest thing holding that back is the lack of a replacement grandmaster in Spite. We aren’t huge fans of weapon or utility type specific traits at this tier otherwise an improved Axe Training might have a shot. This is the crux of the damage necromancer problem right now, and we will talk about it more next week so any discussion on it here will aid us in those talks.

Hello Jon I am little confused by this. If your goal is to remove the drawbacks of every trait then you will kill build diversity and solidify the idea of having one meta for each profession. Players should be forced to weigh drawbacks and rewards for picking certain traits.

That being said, I feel that Dhuumfire is overall too strong. Your post would indicate that this is not how you feel?

One thing I have to ask is, who is writing the LS storyline? Not the particular person, but the job title. Because if it’s Devs writing it, you should hire people who actually write stories for a living, as writing good stories is not a Dev’s strong point. It’s not what they are trained for and frankly, it shows. Or get a professional editor. The stories I’ve seen so far have lore illogical inconsistencies (such as the krait allying with non krait) or just need overall tightening. A good editor should be able to tell you that a maniacally evil person with no ingame background who makes large scale alliances appear out of nowhere with no obvious effort is not a good plot device.

When you started the Scarlet route, you could have, for example, given us instances where we were silent observers of her making these alliances. Where it is known that we are seeing this to explain and move the story alone, such as the instance where Logan hires Marjory. Books do this all the time, the ‘fly on the wall’ scenes that move the story forward and explains it so the reader can understand. Doing this would have greatly improved the current LS and made it more palatable for many people.

I agree. The lore inconsistencies are really painful to see.

State of Defending

TLDR at the bottom.

During 2013 we have seen many changes to the dynamics of sieging / defending in WvW. The two major ones being the introduction of siege enhancing WXP traits and the changes to how blueprints work (combined with achievement boxes). In essence, this has resulted in;

1) Siege weapons and in turn superior siege weapons are a lot more plentiful.
2) Siege weapons are stronger.


Previously, high level siege weapons such as golems and superior rams saw limited use because of their high cost. Playing on Devona’s Rest, I saw a maximum of 5 Omega Golems during my first 6 months in WvW. When the price of such siege drops by 80-85%, and with the high inflation in GW2, it’s not hard to imagine the consequences: Today you can double that number and call it a standard golem rush in that same tier.

Just like with most other parts of the game, it seems that the WvW developers are
disconnected with the implications of risk / reward. This becomes very evident when looking at ram mastery. Previously, the risk of using rams was that you were in a very vulnerable location while doing so. The reward was that it was the quickest way of getting inside a fortification. Through the new traits that is no longer the case. The risk has been mitigated and the rewards have increased. The same can be said for golems. Previously there was a high risk of losing large amount of gold in a golem rush gone wrong. Again, that is no longer the case. When ArenaNet decides on making a WXP trait line for a certain piece of siege, it really does seem like they sit down and ask themselves; what are some of the problems with using this siege? This is completely backwards. I feel that the trait lines are almost always poorly or weirdly motivated.

Anyway, what are the results of these changes?

3) Want to defend a paper tower / keep?
Lets hope you have a bigger blob ready inside because there’s nothing short of a shotgun treb that can defend that gate against 2-3 rams of either quality.
4) It accentuates the problems of night capping.
Having to start the day with paper everything was already painful enough. Now you have to leave an entire zerg in your borderlands because even if you siege up your towers and keeps, you won’t be able to intelligently defend them with a smaller force until they are at least somewhat upgraded.
5) It incentivizes karma trains.
When defending was possible but unrewarding, people still did it. Now that defending is both hard and unrewarding, people don’t do it. The PvP aspect of WvW is almost completely dead. Make sure you are the biggest blob on a map, and if you aren’t then switch to one where you are. After that PvD the crap out of it and swap places with the enemy blob once you are done.


Is this what the WvW development team is driving for? I don’t know, but personally I think it makes for uninteresting game play which rewards the bigger numbers even more than it already did before. To me, WvW would be a much better place if one or more of these changes would be implemented;

6) Change superior siege power to normal siege power, and reduce the effectiveness of normal siege.
7) Increase the durability of walls and gates.
8) Revert or rework the changes in 1) and 2).


TLDR; Siege is too strong, it makes for uninteresting game play.
Nerf superior siege or
buff gates and walls or
revert / rework some of the changes made earlier this year to make WvW more fun.

The balance team either 1) doesn’t know how to nerf abilities or 2) are so scared of nerfing things they previously buffed that they would rather buff /nerf other things to mitigate the effects of their overbuffing.

A great example is the condition meta. Nearly no nerfs to condition application which is the core problem, while they (in the case of the elementalist) try to slap condition hate on every trait they can imagine.

So yes, there is a painfully obvious power creep in GW2 and it doesn’t look like it’s gonna stop.

My favorite LW event is definitely the Zephyr Sanctum because it wasn’t just another champ train. If I wanted to do that I could go to Queensdale.

Worst one is probably Scarlet Invasions. No penalty for failure and events running like clockwork makes this LW event feel like the definition of a stupid loot piñata. I’m sure there were a lot of people playing though since you conveniently made it incredibly rewarding.

I would also like to echo the sentiments shared about the WiK from GW1. Whatever happened to the guys who made that happen? That’s an excellent example of how the living world should be handled. Funnily enough WoC seems to be a great example of how living story is handled in GW2 (and how it shouldn’t be handled). Do the exact same thing in X zones while the story barely progresses.

There’s no point in being competitive anymore because of the population differences. With random match ups there’s no sense of progression if your server does well and for leagues the positions within the match up are decided by the end of the weekend so there’s no point in trying to upgrade, siege up and hold on to your PPT even if you are losing.

The WvW developers have turned their game mode into a massive karma train, and sadly they seem to be content with it.

Hello ArenaNet I am very thankful that you have added this skill that heals for 20-25k and removes multiple conditions. It has done a lot to help balance out the meta.

That being said, I still feel it’s slightly too weak in comparison with other heals. Maybe if you added a 3-5 second water field to it, groups such as hammertrains which are currently hampered by the meta would be able to truly compete on an equal level.

Lastly, I’d like to offer some RL and fiction parallels to the current system (also this part is tl;dr version):
1) Here’s a table of Bundesleague which is one of the most popular leagues in the most popular sport in the world, football:

As you can see Bayerns and Borusia are roflstomping their way through the league, while poor old Einacht Whargharrbl is getting pummeled. Is it fair to pair up Einacht with Bayern ? Not really, anyone can see how that’s going to end but players are still gonna play the game to the end and give their best. Now imagine if there was also a 3rd team that was much closer to the skill level of one or the other team ? If that were the case the things would’ve gotten quite a bit more interesting.
2) Imagine how the fights in the movie Gladiator would’ve played out if there were no Russel Crowe
So in short: If you can’t beat the big dog, try at least to grab those 3 points, you’re gonna need them (if rewards at the end of the league are sufficiently enticing). If queues are a problem for you, feel free to propose to the guild leadership to move to a lower tier/lower league server in order to actually enjoy fighting the opponents instead of wasting valuable time and nerves in frustration. Trust me, you’d be more then welcome in bronze or even silver league.

I really dislike these kinds of comparisons because those teams win because they have better players (why is a discussion for another time), not because they can field more players on the field.

Currently, that’s not what is going on in WvW. Whining about bad match ups and such is kind of a moot point by now. Just try to enjoy match ups in other ways than by the number at the top of your screen. Arena Net has no incentive to balance servers because server transferring is one of their main sources of revenue.

I was discussing this last night with some friends and we have high hopes for Tuesday’s patch. We were thinking Toxin is introduced to counter the warrior meta. Imagine it being a condition… which prevents condition cleansing. In this way, they can easily nerf cleansing ire and fix warriors.

A big shout-out to all of the roamers and guild groups we came across this week. These skilled group fights are the only reason I play this game, and I’m sure the same goes for so many of you.

So, thank you to everyone we fought. Keep up the good work, and keep roaming alive.

What skilled enemy groups did you come across? The best I found were average roamers. Even the self-proclaimed good roamers were push overs and would call in more friends when they continuously wiped with even numbers.

I’m curious, why did you transfer to the same server as VP? I thought you had mild relationship issues with them.

Omega Golems are to WvW what Healing Signet is to warriors.

Does this mean umm… for beating a warrior (Omega golem), you have to use poison (scouting) against them. If you failed or cant have poison, you could try to lure them to use all the active defenses (kill the escorts) to take it down. Or maybe you could try to just burst it down (burst it down).

You see what I did there?

It means that theoretically you could do all those things, but realistically they are still too powerful in terms of risk / reward.

Lets be honest here. Nobody is going to use supply from the map they are building the golems on. Just waypoint from fully upgraded Garri which is fed 4 Dolyaks at a time, build 15-20 Omegas in spawn and take out any wall or gate in about as many seconds. Especially easy since the fantastic introduction of sellable siege and several thousand Badges of Honor rewarded for absolutely nothing and instantly turned into golems and sold by the entire PvE population (95% of the total population).

Omegas are a brilliant example of everything that is wrong with this game: Unintelligent gameplay being the fastest way of achieving goals.

I swear there is an hourly loot lottery. A couple times a month I get excellent loot for a short burst, then it’s back to “what color is rare loot again?”

This is probably due to the infamous diminishing returns system implemented a few weeks after launch.

Season Rewards based on...Server Performance?

Well, what would be the point of a competition if there were no rewards for winning?

Should they remove the price for winning NHL as well, since not all teams are equal?

If, in the NHL, certain teams could field 12 players while others could only field 6, I’m pretty sure that nobody would watch it because there’s no competition in the first place.

Coincidentally that’s exactly what is happening with WvW leagues at the moment.

kitten yaks doesn’t have any skills groups just massive zerg after zerg. SoCo is the closest thing you guys got and they are not even from your server props to them though. Great fights every time. In our match up (as well as others I’m sure) servers don’t even bother to upgrade or defend SM because they want it to be taken so they can k-train it back.

WvW is nothing but a glorified champ train at this point.

My biggest problem with the game is the massive disconnect between the story and the living story. I was fighting dragons for the first 100 hours of this game. My entire personal story and a huge chunk of the other PvE content was dedicated towards stemming the tide of dragon minions. And then when they release the living story, do they expand on this? No, they add some sky pirates which has no precedent in the GW lore at all. They replace a dungeon path which makes some sense in the GW2 lore with one that doesn’t. Every new “living story” is just a glorified loot piñata, one after the other. And there’s absolutely nothing moving the storyline forward. PvE in this game is more stale than in any other MMO I have ever played. I just can’t fathom for what reason they chose to go this path instead of expanding upon the existing lore which they dedicated the entire game world toward.

Meanwhile, PvP is being ignored by a large chunk of the population because of the huge disconnect between PvE and PvP. It’s hillariously amusing how they talk about not separating PvE and PvP skills, all the while everything else between the two game modes is separated. A game mode like Fort Aspenwood or even BG-style CTF a’la WoW where you are allowed to play with your PvE/WvW gear, in your PvE/WvW build, would have 10x more players than what sPvP has currently, I swear. Watching the “balance” developers on the live stream was just an entirely sad ordeal. It seems they are incapable of actually balancing things for the sake of balance. Instead, just about every change they had made was justified because it was a “cool” addition, or a “cool” feature etc… Dota 2 just had one of it’s biggest balance patches in a long time. Here are the changes for one hero:

- Attack point improved from 0.4 to 0.3
- Viscous Nasal Goo is now dispellable
- Viscous Nasal Goo cast point improved from 0.4 to 0.3
- Warpath max stacks increased from 5 to 5/6/7
- Warpath stack duration increased from 10 to 14

This is a balance patch. You know, where things are actually balanced. Meanwhile, if you read the GW2 patch notes, you realize that 75% are bug fixes that should have been fixed back in beta, and this took them 4 months to accomplish. What the hell?

What about WvW then? WvW is just a glorified loot pinãta too. For 90% of the WvW population, playing or not comes down to one question; do we have more players than them? The only reason you would ever bring 70 people to take a tower (I have seen this), is to make sure nobody can engage in PvP with you while you are taking it. This is just completely backwards for a game mode which is supposed to incorporate PvP. Every design decision the WvW team makes just solidifies this type of game play as the only one encouraged.

Arena Net just feels like a bunch of cliques of developers desperately trying to force their own vision on the game, with absolutely no regard to what the players think or want. Or to quote a good friend of mine;

“I’m about to quit this game. I am so bored, and they just keep adding kitten no one ever asked for.”

I have said so many times that this game has amazing potential. But I’m getting tired of saying it and seeing the developer’s fail to capitalize on it patch after patch after patch…

Borlis Pass BL Bugged

Also i keep reporting this and nothing but enemies keep leaping thru an specific tower and taking it without taking down gate or walls ( i know is not a mesmer or anything) this particular gate is been bugged for over 2 weeks since the massive lags reports happened as well, i have seen the enemy an report it too and i can also replicate the issue 100% of the times and still no answers.

Yes, this has been bugged for probably half a year now?

Just one item in the pile of bugs present in WvW that are never fixed.

Perhaps BP has a right to complain about numbers? It turns out we’re starting to confirm that our BL has been bugged all week – improperly sending players to the queue despite only 25ish being logged into the entire zone.

Personally, I’ve been Queued out of BP BL all week at all times of the day, so I cannot personally confirm this. Though I’ve never seen such a Q ever in all my time on BP so it has been a bit hard to believe – thus, I had my suspicions that it was bugged. We had similiar problems last week on our BL when a majority of the players were experiance significant lag and getting disconnected constantly (this affect not only us but all servers, making our BL unplayable).

Not to make excuses, but if this turns out to be true, that would really put an asterix on this week’s matchup, which has otherwise been excellent.

Personally, I have been in BPBL this week, and personally, I have seen 50+ BP zergs in BPBL this week.
