yes, yes, yes and no
if i was to take a mesmer (i wont) he wouldnt be wasting time with SoI, mesmers rely on their utilities and the benefits dont outway the negatives, you’d be better off with blink, nullfield and feedback for a havoc squad then run a GS/staff dps focus build, zerk armour and trinkets with knights attachments but then again, I wouldn’t take a mesmer
A group where each player rely on themselves is the kind of group that gets laughed at when faced with any opposition that vaguely know how to synergize their characters. Why you would ever pick condi / boon removal in a group with two Mesmers and two Guardians is beyond me. Those things are readily available on a much larger scale through traits which would be utilized anyway. I would advice you to investigate just how much boon uptime you gain from one utility skill, especially when that utility skill is used by a Mesmer running Prismatic Understanding.

Play Healway. Start off using a mix of PVT and Cleric. Succesively remove more PVT gear as you get more comfortable with the build until you are running full Cleric.

If you did the Wintersday 2013 Jumping Puzzle you might remember the large raid-style groups using the simplified group UI but with more players you were a part of in that map, so the groundwork is definitely there. It seems Arena Net is reluctant to incorporate it into WvW though.

Just got into a tPvP game with top 100 players after spending 2h total in sPvP across my account. Half of them had Legendary Champion titles (1200+ tPvP games WON), I have a maximum of 10 sPvP games played. Could you perhaps work a bit on your matchmaking algorithm?
Thanks.

Any information on when this will be fixed? Kind of annoying to fight against.

Is it just me or does it not seem more logical to release the patch as soon as they get into their offices in the morning? That way they can spend the entire day fixing the myriad of bugs that arrive with all of their patches.

Not sure why you bind Retreat! and JI to the same key but otherwise pretty solid build.

WvW:
Guardians aren’t really top notch 1v1, nor should they be. That being said they make up for this amply through their incredible team support. While you can probably down a Guardian with your condition build eventually, due to their low mobility and mediocre damage, as soon as that Guardian gets a teammate who can build a highly offensive build around the Guardians supportive capabilities, you are looking at a completely different situation.
From a WvW perspective Guardians are definitely top tier right now, and have been since release.. With the new patch we are also looking at some very interesting new rune sets and sigil combinations. Unfortunately we do get some lackluster traits, especially now that they are nerfing VP making PoV pretty much a must have. Anyone who disagrees is welcome to try and build a competitive team without a boonbot Guardian in it.

Anyone can kill a thief if said thief goes into the fight with the mindset that only one player will leave alive. A thief that has no interest in fighting to the death, not so much.
Fort Aspenwood
ArenaNet removing player damage to gates, nerfing ram mastery and increasing rewards for defending is never going to happen.
That being said, they are fixing ressing from dead with the new assaulter mastery so at least that’s something (although this could be released in months from now for all we know).

Just run 30 in Honor and you can still have perma vigor.

Whoa, slow down there buddy. You think you can just come to the forums and discuss balance from anything but a 1v1 point of view? Who do you think you are? Get with the program and roll a warrior because they are objectively better than a guardian at literally everything in this game, or stop posting.

Signed, literally every (soon-to-be-ex) guardian who ever played this game ever.

I think the OP is talking about 1 vs 1 duels where you’d have to right click the players portrait to ask to duel, and said player would have to accept. How in the world would that feature ruin the game that you guys are mentioning…seems idiotic to think that other people dueling [in the definition i know of] would do anything to hinder or involve you forced to do any action.
Im all for dueling. I thought this was 2014 not 1990…..
A lot of people are scared over having to decline the dueling requests. In my opinion dueling would be a complete waste of time since there is nothing even resembling balance for 1v1 in this game. I’d rather have a 2v2 / 3v3 / 5v5 system in place although that will never happen.
Fort Aspenwood
I disagree with you OP. The people who visit PAX east are not the type of players that ArenaNet is designing their game for. Go to any gaming convention / festival / LAN and you will see the same thing. I went to DHW13 and saw maybe 1-2 others play GW2, simply because it doesn’t cater to hardcore / competitive gamers. That being said GW2 is hugely successful and lucrative among other types of gamers, and will probably continue to be so.
TL;DR
Casual gamers (Not PAX) |—(-)—————(-)——-| Hardcore gamers (PAX) ……………………………………..^……………….^
…………………………………….GW2………Every other MMO.
Fort Aspenwood
Apparently not so simple according to Arena Net. They have been working on this since the BWE’s or shortly thereafter, afaik. Added commander functionality is not something that will “happen overnight” after all.
Fort Aspenwood
1. Completely remake Black Powder. Being able to go into stealth through a skill with no cooldown without interacting with any other player (enemy or ally), does not promote skillful play in any way.
2. Blind on Stealth is incredibly powerful. There are a myriad of ways to immobilize and otherwise CC thieves in stealth, or knock them out of a Shadow Refuge. However, they are all rendered useless by this trait if you happen to be anywhere near the thief in question. Especially stupid combined with aforementioned Black Powder blinding you as well.
Fort Aspenwood
You should brainstorm your arguments before you say something and don’t assume you are better than everybody else.
I don’t assume I am better than everyone else, I am simply saying that if you think Guardian is worse than Warrior in WvW after this patch, you are bad at Guardian. It’s also kind of funny how all you do to prove your point is post a list of things that a Warrior can do, without any sort of reasoning behind why these items would make Guardian completely obsolete in favor of Warriors.
I would for example love to see your math on why 16 second personal stability is better than 13 seconds of party wide stability, or why a 6 second endure pain preventing 100% damage on yourself would be better than 6 seconds of protection preventing 165% damage across your group, or why a 6 second immunity to conditions on yourself would be better than the myriad of ways a Guardian can clear conditions on his / her entire group, especially when the Warrior skills have 2-3x longer cool downs.

Nothing could possibly be worse than Zombieland or Mend, sorry buddy.

If you think Warrior is better than Guardian for WvW or that it will be after this update you must be bad at playing Guardian.
For anything else than 1v1 Guardian will still outclass Warrior, same as now.

It’s unfortunate that a T2 server has to drop down to silver league because of silly glicko but there is a silver lining to this.
The last season, there was no EotM and the matchups were predetermined. This time we have EotM and the swiss style means that the strong servers will fight each other regularly. So FA will probably be fighting HoD quite a bit, which should provide more than enough fights for your guilds (HoD queuing 4 maps now apparently).
Dragonbrand is on FA’s level if not stronger in terms of PPT, and believe me, you would rather be stuck fighting FA than DB since DB is just about the most boring server you could possibly fight in this game. So yes, I agree that it’s unfortunate that a T2 server has to be in silver league but for the other servers FA is better than DB.
Fort Aspenwood
I am all up for this idea…
… right after they increase the size of each borderland and EB three-fold so that towers are not in range of each others’ siege.
I dare you to find places in the real world where anyone had ever erected two separate fortresses within range of catapults. The whole idea is just ridiculous.
In all fairness though if this wasn’t the case people might actually have to PvP for their rewards in this PvP mode.
Fort Aspenwood
How do you know players won’t be required to have the stacking sigil on both weapon sets to maintain the stacks?
Fort Aspenwood
Utter trash.
Raw hp is meaningless, especially after already putting 30 points into Honour and already having +3000 hp.
Real survivability comes from healing, condition removal, protection and dodging.
you already have those atributes on guardian, well sort off, all i imagine this +health is like a HP buffer, this is like one of the known updates we know they might have other new traits at realease.
I imagine alot of guardians that use 30 pts on honor will have it.
The only Guardians who invest into Honor and need a HP buffer are the ones who run PVT gear in a zerg spamming #1 on their Staff while taking damage from a thousand things they don’t need to while hoping they will live through the time it takes their zerg to throw up a new water field so they can get full healed again.
The only reason this trait would ever be useful is if you are somehow CC’d from 14,000 Health to 0 so you can’t use your two dodge rolls that will heal you for that oh-so-coveted 3,000 HP, at which point you are not running SYG! and would die from being a bad player regardless.
Fort Aspenwood
BTW, anyone says 3k hp is nothing clearly never fight a good thief 1 on 1 in WvW, or even play WvW enough…
Go back to your sweet PVE and enjoy slaughtering noob AI with your loving PPCrit.
Please don’t come to WvW to be easy Rally Trashes that benefit foes more than your team.
If you lose to Thieves 1v1 on a Guardian you don’t play WvW enough…

Whenever you heal another ally, both you and the ally receive -3%(?) Condition Duration and 35(?) Healing Power. Stacks up to 5(?) times. Duration: 10 seconds(?).
Obviously this couldn’t count for Writ of the Merciful or Battle Presence.
The duration would have to be a lot longer. For that trait to be useful as a GM, your party wouldve have to be dying left right and centre, and you would have to be pretty much doing nothing but resing.
I’m talking about healing not ressing.

No thank you. Professions shouldn’t have the capability to “do it all”. Guardians already have the second best blast finisher in the game. Teamwork and group synergy should be rewarded.
Fort Aspenwood
The only place where this trait would be welcome is WvWvW where there is a reason that Applied Fortitude is a “Must get” trait. 2500 extra health is quite a bonus and now we can throw another 3000 on top of that.
That being said….I’d love the rangers “Read the wind” instead. Imagine. Orb’s of Wrath at twice the speed? /faint.
The only reason why Applied Fortitude is a must is because other players are running it without sacrificing anything in return.
Fort Aspenwood
I don’t think there are any builds like Skull Crack for Warrior or PU for Mesmer when it comes to Guardian, i.e. builds that let mediocre players beat better opponents 1v1 through their build and nothing else.
If you want to faceroll as a Guardian you had better find some people to play with so you can abuse boon spam, otherwise I would recommend you to try another profession unless you want to actually spend time learning your Guardian and learning how to delicately balance your supportive capabilities with your offensive ones, both through your build and how you play it.
Fort Aspenwood
Interesting to note:
Superior Rune of Exuberance
- (1): +25 Vitality
- (2): 3% of Vitality is converted to Healing Power
- (3): +50 Vitality
- (4): 3% of Vitality is converted to Precision
- (5): +90 Vitality
- (6): 3% of Vitality is converted to Power
Granted, we don’t know exactly what is going to happen to runes with the next patch, but 9 Precision, Power and Healing Power won’t have anything against even 15% Boon Duration, let alone 45%.
Fort Aspenwood
It should have been a sustain boost, something like “Heal X ammount of health for each condition you have”. A flat +300 vitality, that’s just worthless.
Yep, I’d really like to know how this is going to, and I quote, “give existing builds a much more defined role”.
This means that if you drop your current trait which is likely PoV, you can get 300 free vitality, which in turn means you can grab gear with much better offensive stats. This trait is big, it can make otherwise invalid builds completely valid!
If you trait in Honor 300 Vitality is going to be just as useless as whatever Vitality you put on your gear. The Vitality you get just from putting 30 points into Honor is by far enough for the type of Guardian you are going to play.
Fort Aspenwood
(edited by EFWinters.5421)
Hopefully something a little bit more imaginative than 3,000 health. Who is seriously going to invest into this? If you have 30 points in Honor just a few dodge rolls will most likely heal you (and your team) for that amount. A lot of the traits look very interesting, Power Block for example, but this is just another example of the lazy design that I was hoping Arena Net was trying to get away from.
It’s a shame too because I don’t see Absolute Resolution or Indomitable Courage being surpassed by anything due to how strong they are, and the entire point of spending 30 points into Valor is playing Meditations. Honor was the one trait line that actually had a slot for a Grandmaster trait after Pure of Voice was nerfed and became debateable, but I wouldn’t even pick up 300 Vitality in place of my Adept or Master trait at this point.

If this was the big WvW patch before seasons, and no changes to WvW will be made before they end (except for throwing unwanted PvE mobs in there I guess), I think it’s safe to assume account bound WXP has been put on hold indefinitely.
Fort Aspenwood
Well I doubt you need to worry about cleanses in PvE at level 18. That being said condition damage sucks anyway. Crafting level 20 armor is also a pretty bad choice since level 21+ equipment have both a major and a minor stat.
What stats to pick? I would probably go with any combination of toughness, power and vitality. Precision doesn’t work so well on low levels since you don’t have access to additional critical damage, and high power is the key to dealing DPS as a guardian anyway.
Fort Aspenwood
Supposedly they are making the Meta Achievement a lot easier this time around so PvE players won’t have to work for their rewards. You might see a surge in players for the first 1-2 weeks but probably not after that.
Fort Aspenwood
Stealth isn’t really a problem, but Shadow Arts is. It’s probably the most brain AFK trait line in the game. That being said it sucks like most other things in anything but a 1v1 or maybe 2v2 situation, so why balance around it?
Always makes me chuckle when mediocre players think they are some kind of PvP god because they can beat players 1v1 with some cheese build.
Fort Aspenwood
(edited by EFWinters.5421)
Even if they add Guild Halls they will probably function like PvP Arenas, i.e. you pay cash to keep “renting” one, which will render their purpose obsolete.
Fort Aspenwood
Condition builds damage significantly slower than power builds. Condition builds by definition do their damage over time, and every profession has at least a few different ways to remove them.
Are some condi skills slightly too strong in havok groups and spvp? perhaps.
Are they OP? not at all
You are looking at it the wrong way though. Will a full dire necro deal damage slower than a full zerk necro? Probably. A PVT necro on the other hand? No chance in hell.
Fort Aspenwood
Ah, this thread again.
Good players will learn how to play the downed state to their advantage, bad players will cry about it on the forums. Sorry but if you don’t know how to capitalize in any way on your enemy reviving players then you deserve to lose fights.

“Cleanse”, lol. Engineers can apply up to 5 condis with a single grenade skill. Most builds don’t even have instant access to half that many condition clears. Condition application vs condition clearing has been in a kittened spot ever since the introduction of Torment and the balance changes surrounding it.
Fort Aspenwood
Echoing the sentiment that in no way is FA wanting to drop to silver league and in fact we are trying harder than ever to stay in T2 since the only good thing about WvW is the fights, not the PVD. DB has been leeching rating off of SOR for far too long so currently its an inaccurate picture of the actual ratings imo.
While the ratings may be inaccurate, I doubt FA has enough time to prove it since we are only a couple of weeks away from S2, and the currently projected ratings will shift even more during the week in favor of DB, as their night time presence gains steam whereas FA’s lack of it becomes more apparent.
They’ll get absolutely crushed next week in t2 and drop back to a more accurate rating.
There are no guarantees that they will be in T2 next week.
