This is why I like Gw2 hearts and events better than the usuall quests.
In Lotro wich game I have played longest of every Online game so far, they have ordenary quest chains. At the end of my time playing lotro I started playing GW2, but a few month after GW2 release Lotro had an expansion and I started playing it. It was okay, but the quests they where the same old ‘I need help prepairing rations for the troups will you get the ingreediensfor me?’, ‘The troups are down, they need someone to give them back their will to fight’, ‘Some soldiers are wounded, please have a look at them’ and ‘We are ready to go, will tell the troups to move out?’. For almost 30-60 minutes I spend at a camp talking to soldiers seeing what they have to say with no voiceover reading reading reading stuff I don’t care about… I don’t wanna know if that soldier met Boromir a day ago and so on. Finally I stop reading and just skip skip skip and the quests becomes just like farming exp by talking to people.
The expansion promo is like;’ all 600+ quests!’ And 550 of the quests are just tedious chores and when it is some quests where you have to go kill something it is like; Kill 20 Sapper, 5 Warmasters and 3 Defilers and when that is done I have to go back to questgiver (Most of the time) and hand in the quest, get a new quest where I have to go back to the Orc Camp and kill 1 Uruk-hai Leader and collect his medalleon.
The Events and Hearts in GW2 is more like; To compleate this Task(Heart) Kill stuff, Water plants, Block skritt holes, throw stuff and so on and that is for one task and most tasks are made on the fly. But sure there is tasks that are tedious too like the one where you have to trade stuff with the ettins. But there are like 10 tasks like this in the whole game and point number two what makes it special is that I don’t have to do these tasks to level up but in other games it is more or less important to not skip quests since then you will not be level enough to do next lines of quests if I don’t go out and level on killing stuff for a year.
Why I like Events, just as my second point to why tasks is better that quests, I don’t have to do them to level up to be able to do other Events somewhere else. The only event’s I don’t like is like the once where you have to collect # stuff and bring it to the guy with an arrow in a basket icon. But the best stuff with events is that if they are booring thare are more or less always other players working on it and can help you doing it and it will go faster. But quests in other MMO’s are mostly non-group friendly and usually non grouped players can interrupt your questing buy collecting or killing the guys you where going to get or kill.
I hope you get what I mean, but I can count even more reasons why GW2 system is so much better but these are the biggest reasons.
But there is one thing the usuall quests system leads to wich I do miss in GW2 and that is more Mini-Dungeons ( A little dungeons with small puzzles and a little boss at the end), There are a few but I would like more.

This is my little Elementalist… He was a Female until the change where we could use glasses in combat so I just had to make a copy of my Elementalist from GW1

From the notes:
“Characters under level 80 will be able to see the available episodes, but will not be able to play them until they reach level 80. Think of the Living World story as the constantly expanding continuation of your character’s storyline once they reach level 80.”
Do you mean that characters under level 80 can’t do any of LW season two?
I think so.
Though leveling to 80 is just the turorial of the game and it is swift.

If you don’t login, you need to pay to doing Living World, Huh? Anet, None of the Living World stuff so far has been worth paying for, dumbest idea yet!
Anet, if you want money from me, you’ll need to do a hell of a lot better than this!
Why is it a dumb idea!? Even if you don’t like LS maby others do and imagine new players starting during the middle of S2 and all players who have missed S1 when they implement that one. Immagine how many players who will convert gold or buy gems to unluck what they have missed. It is an awesome move, I like it and I support it to 100%, it is a perfect way for Anet to make money.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
I really hope that they manage to put the season 1 in the new system.
I don’t have a problem in buying gems to be able to play what I missed.
Make it happen anet!!
Concerning the discussion we hand in another thread a day or two ago it makes me realy happy to read about this journal change for players to replay previous content
I am so happy for you Rincewind.9528 and also happy for you that my wishes for non-rewarded replays didn’t happen
Now for the Season 1 stuff, I am pretty sure they will implement it sooner or later. Imagine how much money they can make on that
Awesome move Anet! I realy like it!
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
Well it’s a good thing they give you 2+ weeks every time.
Also, every restriction you just listed is self-imposed. If you don’t like to look things up, then it’s going to take you longer to complete the content. If you can’t play the game that much because of your job, well, obviously your job is more important to you than playing GW2. And it should be. But that’s not ANet’s problem.
Tell me, how fast can you eat a chocolate cake? And I mean the ENTIRE chocolate cake? 20 minutes? 25?
Most people can’t answer that right off the top of their head, because they’ve never tried it before. Yes, chocolate cake is yummy, but most people prefer to enjoy it a bit at a time, rather than cramming it into their mouth as fast as they can.
With that in mind, why do some people seem to feel that looking up guides on Dulfy and cramming through new content as fast as possible is somehow a virtue? Do they even enjoy the content, or are they simply getting a fix of “click buttons fast, get rewards”?
I realize I won’t change your mind, nor am I really trying to. The reply is more for the other people reading this thread, so they can at least see my reasoning.
There has only been a few parts in the LS where it has been hard to find stuff without a guide like when we had to look for the dragon stuff during Tequatil update.
I also think you are overreacting abit. You compare GW2 LS with a Chocolate bar… Well you actually can’t wait too long to eat your chocolate, it do have an expire date. Just becouse the LS will end someday does not mean you have to stuff your face with it in an hour.
I have friends who has work and have kids and do activites and lot’s of other stuff. They play every weekend for about 2-3 hours and they have almost every LS content and have seen all the story exept the ending of the Aetherblade retreat story. Now they don’t even care much for the LS, they just play and enjoy the game. It is just that I want them to not miss out on the things so I always drag them along when we are online at the same time. And never have we fealt the need to rush trough the content.
Achievements is least important since it goes away, it does not save the Achievements you missed and there are always several achievements to compleate to achieve the Meta wich almost always award you with a special item.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
Look. The Living Story is fine if that’s the direction they want to keep moving. I paid $60 and probably another $40ish on gems, and I can honestly say that I’ve gotten my money’s worth from this game. My problem, as I stated in the OP, is that I get burned out and/or have to take extended breaks from the game due to real life happenings. In the most recent case it was the birth of my son. I like knowing that a developer is adding content to a game and once I come back, I can play it. That’s just what sucks about the LS. Sure I can log on and play whatever is happening at that certain time, but anything before that is just gone. Yes yes….it’s a living world…and it’s like real life. That’s all well and good. I’m just telling you what I like in a video game, and what I like is that they are an ESCAPE from real life.
In this thread I have argued alot about the stuff/loots/uniqe that you get for almost each part of the LS.
But what I may have missed to say is that I am totally for a way for new players and players who have missed content to re-play the LS as an un-rewarded Instance. They should be able to play solo or in a group just like the personal story and rewards could be handed out in the end of the instance just like personal stories. But the stuff like, Blade shards, blueprints, Gasmask, Holo-Wings, Dreamcather, Scarlets Kiss/Rainbow and more should not be rewarded since this is something those who was online during these special events can be proud of.
This game has no monthly fee and how would it look if all players took a break for a year (I can always return in a year and do everything) then the game would fall and there wouldn’t be a game to come back to. So I think that by having one time events and espacially uniqe stuff to get during them is good for the game, since most people will be back every two weeks and buy stuff and give Anet/NCsoft money so the game can grow.
I think somewhere in a thread far far away there was a statement from a Dev that they will be working for a way for players who have missed the LS to atleast get a re-cap of it. In the end of LS1 they did this but I don’t think their work is done yet.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
Most times a new story part is on for two weeks or more and it usually takes less than an hour(Read posts about expansion and read how they think LS content is to short). Saying you don’t have time to play 1 hour in a two weeks period sounds fishy to me… Don’t wanna offend but to me it sounds more like ‘I got bored of the game and tried other games, but I return to GW2 since there is no better games but now I missed the story just becouse of that’. Sure I feel sorry for you guys who gets bored of the game comes back and has missed alot of the story. Though there is a pretty good recap in game now and you have http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_season_1 .
I hope that due time Anet will find a way for players to play an unrewarded Instance to play the old LS content alone or in groups. yes unrewarded, I feel sorry for players that have missed the story but the uniqe rewards are for the people who actually stay true to the game at that specific time.
So, people who take a break are traitors and don’t deserve content?
In fact, it’s the feeling that the “catch the carrot against timers” content gives.
So… guess that players like me are unwelcomed to this game and need to leave asap.
At least I’m glad that I refrained from buying gems lately.
But let’s say for IRL, a store decides to give out 500 of their last stuff to the first 500 costumers and after that you can never get it ever (If you don’t buy it on Ebay ofc). The store holds this event to get more people to visit the store and buy more products not just to be kind. What you want is that this store you have visited once should give you something the next time you visit the store just becouse you have been there and shopped before.
So saying traitor to the ones taking a break from the game is kinda harsh but I still don’t think players who don’t participate in “special events” deserve the “special stuff”.
Race against time or not, I like it that participants get stuff and people who is not playing miss out. It makes the stuff even more special and not everyone runs around with the same Greatsword all the time.
I have missed out on stuff too becouse I had RL issues to take care of and I wasn’t good enough to compleate Aetherblade retreat even once (Wich had me a little kittened since the story was locked behind a hard for me temporary dungeon). But I accept it, I didn’t do it so why should I have the stuff and as I said before I like it that it goes away so not everyone has it all… Remember during dragon festival when everyone ran around with holo-wings and shattarer wings but now not everyone has them so everyone is not running around with them.
I think players like you are very welcome, you are not hindered to enjoy any content that can be enjoyed at the moment. Just becouse you missed the cake doesn’t mean you are less welcome to the party.

This thread is starting to topple again :P
In a world where magic exists and where a Full plate has the same Armor Class as the Gladiator armor, what outfit would you have chosen yourself? Do you like skimpy? Well you choose skimpy. Do you like Full Plate? Well you choose full plate.
If me and my Girldfriend would live in the Guild Wars world and have the perfect bodies as the heroes does we would choosen the skimpy looks. In real life I would go shirtless or atleast barechest in the summer if I had a tad better figure becouse I realy like that look. My girlfriend had a miniskirt highheel kneeboots and a nice shirt that showed her shoulders on her yesterday. Sure we where out having dinner but in a world where you could fight/walk long distances/Run/not freeze/Not sweat/ or without any other penalties, I think many more would have walked around in clothes like that in the real world.

I have been thinking…
The first big LS was the attack of Karkas in LA and we got to explore southsun Cove… But then there was no new maps after that. This is (As I beleave) becouse they noticed that as soon as everything was done is Southsun it got pretty barren. And I am pretty sure I have seen somewhere that Anet wan’t this world to be interesting all over and that people should be able to return to old maps and have fun again. This didn’t happen so Anet didn’t want to make a new map. Now they have introduced MegaServers and this will make more players on the same map even if it has low popularity, if their studies from old LS and the effects of MegaServer on Southsun and other low Pop maps shows a possitive result we will probably have new maps to explore. I know many don’t like MegaServers but I think it has opened quite a lot of population gates for Anet and they can now aim at new content instead of populating the old Content.
This is just speculations but I kinda want to beleave it.
@Devata: I couldn’t enter to answer your post but I say I agree but I do not agree that people who missed LS rewards should be able to aquire it after. Achievements is okay to achieve after the events imo but not loot and stuff like Gasmask and those stuff. I have myself missed some stuff becouse I didn’t have time to compleate it but still I think those who got it is the only ones to have it.
OOoooorrr they could make that “last” achievement to get the reward realy realy realy realy hard to achieve.

For LA I already gave an example. They could have destroyed LA without many activities linked to it. But then link the activities to building up LS what could take multiple years. At this moment they are building up LA (see last patch) without our input. They could have done it the other way around.
Similar for Tower of madness. I mean it’s fine if we can fight them when it’s going on just don’t link real achievements and rewards to it so people don’t feel pressured to do it then. Now that the tower is gone the players can get involved in the after effects. Maybe the poison created mutated animals so we need to clean the world and fight the mutated animals while the fallen tower might have been turned into an new JP that we can do and has it’s own achievement and reward linked to it. Now that’s how I would like to see the LS and then we have an ever changing world but the temporary nature and it negative side-effects are gone.
Don’t forget Anet makes the story. The way the tower of madness story was written it would make sense we where part of the destruction and there are only limited after effects but because they create the story they could have easily done it in a way that it would make more sense that we are more involved in the after effects or at least link most events and all achievements and rewards to that part.
“I have played so many MMO’s where I defend a city but fails and in the story it gets ruined and captured and after the story I can return there as if nothing ever happened.”
That is the same in GW2. If nobody or not enough people cleaned the poison on that tower it would still be cleaned. It is not like your input makes a real difference. But I do understand what you mean. You are mainly talking about cosmetic changes in the world and I am not against that. It’s the temporary nature of the LS I have a problem with and then I am talking about the activities for the players, not the cosmetic changes to the world. You should understand that most people that complain about temporary content are not complaining about the fact the LA got destroyed or anything like that. The problem is that the story and the activities are created in a way that those activities are temporary.
“I think that the LS improved alot and as I said before there where alot of permanent content introduced after they promised to have more permanent content. ”
The problem is that your definition of permanent is not the same as many of the complainers. Like I said. It’s fine that they destroyed LA and it’s fine that they build that tower but link the activities to the after effects of the poisoning or to the rebuilding of LA. Building up LA might eventually also be done (but can take many years) but turning the tower into a JP or maybe even a dungeon would mean permanent constant and activities that make up the LS. We would still have the LS and changing world you like so much. Just without the pressure of doing things now and not next month.
Obviusly we are so far apart on different opinions so this is no use.
I don’t understand what you want and you apperently don’t understand me. Sorry.
I stand by my word, I like the LS as it is… It can be improved but I wouldn’t wan’t LS to be less “living” than it is now.

[@Mods: This contains sarcasm, please no more infringement point because of sarcasm]
When a woman wants to kick your kitten, she won’t wear lingerie, she will wear some huge, intimidating armor and smack you with a Greatsword. On some level im a huge fan of RPing and when walk tyria im always imagining how these are real places and real people. It always makes me smile when I see a female character wearing skimpy armor cause I imagine how she would explain her armor choice. It would sound like something along the lines of:
[sarcasm stars here]
- Yea, I just wore this for years, people know me like this
- It makes me more mobile and agile, you know? I just don’t get hit
- Err, all of this practical armor is just too heavy for my fragile body, I just can’t wear it…
- Invisible magical force field all the way!!
- It fits my naturally blue hair color! Eww! Shooes!
- I want something to remind me of the ordeals of Arah.. yes, its a Plate Bikini
- Im “Emma Enignma” don’t event start asking me stuff..
- Are you RPing? Lol nubz!
Hehe Almost all these sarcastic comments could have been said of me :P
But anyway, would your reaction had been the same meeting a guy with the Gladiator or pit-fighter armor?
I like skimpy armors as I said before and I like that it is so common in fantasy but as for GW2 I would like more Skimpy armors for dudes. Like Light armor like the clothes Alading has in the Disney versions or there are some good examples Hayate has in DoA. I don’t like wrestling skimpy but I do like menclothes that has flair and fasion just like woman clothing. I do like it IRL too, but sadly IRL male clothing is mostly jeans or tuxedo pants and a white shirt or a cardigan :P All so strict and simple…
Skimpy for both male and female please!!!

Whas writing a long text here but the forums crashed or something when I posted it… So I don’t wanna sit for ten more minutes to write a new reply.
So short reply is ‘I realy like the Living Story and I don’t ever want it to go away. More Permanent content was promised in the middle of LS1 and as promiced it was delivered. Just becouse you don’t find it enough does not mean it isn’t there and permanent. Now they have said that they have learned alot from doing LS1 and will make LS2 even a better experience. So saying that there will be no Permanent content in LS2 is what I think total BS but I don’t mind becouse I am one of those who realy liked LS1 and I like the temporary content as it ups the feeling of an ever evolving world and that the story goes on and isn’t just trapped in time.’
Can you explain me how the LS (the activities that the players do) being of a temporary nature gives it more the feeling of an ever evolving world in stead of if the stuff the players did would be permanent?
For me adding new activities, achievements and rewards (basically the 3 elements that make up the LS at this moment) that are permanent including with other permanent staying content makes the world just as evolving. So please tell me why in you idea removing those activities after 2 weeks to a month makes it feel more of an evolving world?
I am also happy for you that you like the LS as it is the the fact is that many players dislike it the way it is.
Activities? Well I can only think of a few activites that isn’t permanent and that is Halloween, Wintersday, Dragonfestival and zephyrites Activity…
But I guess you are speaking about the events during the Living Stories? Well for example: After the Tower of madness fell, how would we be able to go in there and do the events in there when the tower actually has fallen. How would Lions Arch be attacked if it would never bee attacked? How would we be able to rebuild Lions Arch if we could return and defend it from scarlets invasion? and so on.
I have played so many MMO’s where I defend a city but fails and in the story it gets ruined and captured and after the story I can return there as if nothing ever happened. In some games like LotrO and ESO they put people in different layers and I go there with a friend and when I se a ruined city they see a nice looking city filled with people.
And to let most players be able to enjoy the content it still anyway has to be repeated for a few weeks but most times the story has still been made to actually build up each day until the end of that LS part. Like with the Tower of Madness.
I know that many players like the LS and I am one of those who defends it becouse I don’t want it to be scrapped so I want to give my opinion at it.
Edit:
Why are u starting to complain when u dont even know what season will hold yet, OP? Wait till its realeased at least Before u start…. Geez, plz givee the devs a break already.
Well, I’m looking forward to it with excitement!
He did not made a complain about LS S2 he made a complain about LS S1 and asking if we would get the same for LS S1 stating he would not like that, telling what he would like. So he is just giving feedback.
It can be useful to read more as just the title. Obviously many people don’t have high hopes for LS S1 because Anet said to improve LS S1 somewhere during it’s first half. It however didn’t really improve.
What I expect is that LS S2 will start with one or more new maps and I am will be happy for that. While not delivered in my preferred way. However I do expect the LS itself to stay temporary of nature. However, lets hope they indeed make the needed changes and we will see the LS being permanent of nature.
Living Story Season 2 is a Big Mistake, sounds like a complaint to me… Also that most of the critics to the LS2 is based on how LS1 has been.
I think that the LS improved alot and as I said before there where alot of permanent content introduced after they promiced to have more permanent content.

If a man can wear gladiator oufit why can’t a woman in a fantasy game? I repeat Fantasy Game.
And just as Taku.6352 says, “I like both styles and would love to have more choices for both.” I would have choosen that option if it was there.
Do you know what the best thing with fantasy is? Well, you can be and do whatever you want.
Edit:
You should also put an option for: “I like both styles and would love to have more choices for both.”
I think “Everything is fine and we have enough options for both.” is pretty much this. As new armour is added anyway, it just tells that the proportion is fine.
Though I didn’t take it like that, I thought that I don’t think everything is fine… There are more skimpy armors that I want and I want the cencor for Arah Heavy armor removed. I also wan’t more real pants and I wan’t more jackets and tunic’s. So I want more options looks and less just texture changes.

@kurtdg
I get where you’re coming from; add more revenue and we will get more content but it won’t work that way unfortunately.
Anet’s business model has always been a one time purchase. You can leave for a month, a year or even 10 (ok, exaggeration) and still come back and enjoy GW2. Adding a subscription fee will scare consumers (and even investers).
Using your McDonald’s metaphor (which I think is a little off), it’s like adding a fee to put cheese on a cheeseburger to get better quality cheese. I can make a safe bet that most people will just skip the cheese.
Appreciate the post!
While I think you have some valid points, I still will stand by my original thoughts. More money spent for pvp will directly influence pvp content.
The game is free to play. You buy it, and play free.
PvE is why gems are bought. It’s why karma, and xp gains, luck, skins, convenience (bank, bltc, barber, etc), legendary, ascended, money for gold, the list could go on and on and on and on are specifically purchased. PvE.
PvP players don’t have to contribute anything. Nothing…..zip, squat……zilch.
Why does pve gets all the attention?? Why? Why again?
Why does pvp not get nearly as much attention? Why? why? again?
It’s simply math. Do it, or try justifying it i suppose.
Don’t forget those Arena Tokens
But I wouldn’t pay to play PvP… I am a PvEer who is a hotjoin hero 20% of my ingame time… I would quit playing PvP if it started to cost money, but as I am just a Hotjoin player I don’t bother those who aims for SoloQ or TeamQ and so on.
atm this game is the best MMO I have ever played and I have played(Tried) all big hits up too ESO.

Wow, just becouse you think he is right doesn’t mean he doesn’t breaks one rule and also has an unconstructive topic.
GW2 may not be as hard as GW1, GW2 may not be GW1 but it is one of the best games I have ever played and for more or less every update this game is improving the way I wan’t it and I am perfectly happy that this game isn’t just another GW1. I played GW1 since release and untill a few months after EoTN so I know that game and I like it but I like GW2 much more and I would be sad if it started to be more like GW1.
Most things I like about GW1 is in GW2 in my opinion, but there is more that could come… Like Guild Halls and GvG but it is a growing game.
So as a comback to this I am leaving thread I will say ‘I still play this game, I got 8 lvl 80 and have played since 3-day headstart. I have got 7 of my friends to play this game and after four months they are still playing’. Suck on that

In all fairness, it’s not that hard of a concept.
Each boss grows stronger by defeating the others. At that point logic dictates that the fastest and easiest way to deal with this is defeating them all at about the same time.I might be overly optimistic, but a minimal amount of thought can still be expected of the average player.
I am in all favor of the mechanics of the new Boss Blitz, and logicly it shouldn’t be too hard. But it is… Becouse of Zerging mentality thing… For about 5 hours of and on playing there I have never seen even a hint of organizing-
Though I hope that when I log in a bit later (Can’t now) I will see people organizing and proving me wrong becouse I just actually love the Idéa of this event and I realy wanna play it as it is meant to be played. Not for rewards, just for the joy of doing it right.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
There are more than enough people who have claimed the “commander” tag. Time for them to put it to use and organise.
Well sadly many has the commander tag as a ‘I have had 100g and wasted it on this thing’. Dunno realy, there are also people who uses the commander tag to greif, and those who realy dunno a ducks behind how to lead.
Hmm… Though I have been thinking… The waiting time after the donations is done should have been longer, much longer to have leaders time to organize the map. Becouse now as I think about it, we did manage to organize the lanes on Mari pretty well after all.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
I know there has been times where this event has been succeded but there must almost always be one or a few good leaders.
I think I am just to pessimistic to beleave that people can ever learn to organize just like that… I think it wont ever work… Aleast not until there is a big enough coockie on the end of the rope. And if this cookie where to be gone I think people will turn of their brains again.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
Well yea, like when everyone has donated enough money the gates will close and every player who is inside a Zone will port out to the gate. After two minutes, every player that has donated atleast 1c and/or stands in the middle will be ported to a random generated Zone(Boss), just like it was with Marionette when we got ported to a random platform.
150 players can’t organize without good leaders and preparations and this is IMO a good way to organize players without them knowing it realy.
I like this new boss blitz and how it is supposed to work, but sadly the zerg-mentality and the farming mentality (Gonna kill 50 of each Veteran) is ruining it. IMO.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
Becouse the bosses are pretty hard for 2-3 players to do. Tried one with 5 players and it is realy realy hard.
So I think there is a minimum thought out players to be able to handle a boss.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
Agree to the fullest with OP
I just tried it yesterday and I think it is an awesome experience. Though the downside of the event down there is that the mechanic is thought out to make players split up but when I played players still Zerged one boss at a time and we was rewarded bronze And many players was just farming Veteran mobs for achievment… So there wasn’t realy any affective play there. But I hope that later people will start to learn the mechanics and have farmed their stupid veterans and actually try to compleate the event for gold.
@Listerbird: Donate one silver or a copper and let everyone else who wanna donate 50s or a gold worry about that. I totaly wasted 50s yesterday as what I said people didn’t do the events, they just farmed veterans so the event was active for over an whole hour… I had to log out before it ended.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
I dunno or understand what some of you speak about.
‘Anet don’t want us to farm so we can spend our $$$ on Gem-store’
Well for me I havent farmed or Grinded any content accept during one LS and that was max one hour. I have played the game since 3-days headstart and I have never transfered Gems to Gold. I have never fealt the need to farm or grind any content in this game and still in my opinion the only grind there is in this game is Dungeon gear. But now I have almost got my full TA set and that is by playing Dungeons by helping friends with dungeons or trying them out with my alts and so on. I hate to farm and grind becouse I find it booring so I just don’t do that, as soon as I find myself doing something I find booring I stop doing it and go do something else.
I may be wrong but dindn’t Anet say that they didn’t wan’t people to farm in this game? So by nerfing champions and making Champs to Vet’s in starter zones is one direction on keeping people to farm. Then people comes and say ‘This is supposed to be a sanbox game and I can’t do whatever I like!’ Well… First of all when they do soemthing “wrong” you call this game a “supposed to be a sanbox game” and when they do something good but not as good as you wanted you call this game a “Themepark game”. Second, by saying this is a sanbox game does that mean you should be able to cheat, use Exploits and hack the game as much as you like? No? I am pretty sure that things like Queensdale farm was a mild form of exploit since it wasn’t working as inteded but people used it as a good way to speed up the amount of mats and gold they earned.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
I don’t farm but I do mostly do everything… I do dungeons, Fract, Exploring, enjoying LS, World Bosses, chat with friends and more.
Though I would advice you to split up “Open World” since it is a big category as it has Socialzing, Roleplaying, Leveling, Exploring, Jumping Puzzles, Achievemtn hunting and more. While world boss train is one thing and dungeons/Fract is two things and so on.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
leveling my first character in the new system…..don’t like it. the requirements for traits are sometimes absurd.
you can open a adept major slot at level 36 (a slot every 6 levels)….but many of the requirements for these adept major traits put you in content 10+ levels higher than lvl 36. One of the adept major traits required doing a level 55 personal story quest…..almost 20 lvls higher.
the cost to just purchase the traits are extremely high as well (unless you have a bunch of skill scrolls stored up).
i see the value in having trait acquisition based on in-game achievement (adds to progression and reason to do as much content as possible)….but at least make the requirements level-appropriate.
as it is, the inconvenience of the new system has to be killing build experimentation/diversity….
i’m just glad i leveled my other 7 toons in the old system. so i know which traits are worth the trouble getting.
The cost of traits is no different to before, it is just that you don’t have to spend 10 points to get 1 major trait anymore.
The point of this new system is to learn the basics of the game, to let you experement with your skills that you can get while leveling up to 30. When you have got all your skill holders it is time to teach you about traits and to let you see and experience your traits one at a time.
IMO this game is easy and they also made most of the stuff easier to compesate for this trait loss on lower levels. You just have to concentrate on what you got and learn the game as you play and not rush towards level 80 and max out. This game isn’t about getting level 80 and max out, this game starts at level 80 and by then you should have graduated the GW2 school and should now be able to build yourself an okay build and know what you do and how you do it.
I have a friend who isn’t to bright. He has played since headstart too and he still doesn’t know what to do with traits, he just puts them where it sounds good and doesn’t bother about what stats he has or if that trait goes well with that weapons and stuff. Now while he has been leveling a new char with the new trait system (Wich he isn’t very found of) he has learned alot about the traits and how they actually work becouse he can take it slow and try them out on at a time.

Paying real money or trading gems (which is expensive) for a temporary booster that wears out all the time is very far from having a travel skill intended to be fun and helpful.
Plus: “Double-click to gain a buff that increases your speed by 15% for one hour.”
Why would I use that if stacking speed through skills is 33%?
Also, you still have to run to waypoints if you are playing with a new character, where the whole point of my post to have a skill to travel that isn’t a combat skill is about.
Not only I shouldn’t thank you, you should apologize for making me waste time having to reply to you
Eeuhm. I have never spend a coin on stuff like that. Yet i have a full stack of swiftness boosters in my bank. If you say you cant attain them without playing i am rather curious what is you DO inside the game to avoid them
Maby he/she runs through the content?

A game that does not have a sub and does not earn their money to have players coming back to play for a mounth a year… I don’t think an Expansion is a good profit for GW2 I put my bets on Living story that makes players coming back every two weeks and put’s their money on minitransactions that they just need to have before that living story part ends.
That is just what I think. But it realy bothers me when people start threads claiming Anet/NCsoft doesn’t know how to make the best money, I mean it is the companies that has the numbers and just becouse you read the numbers on the internet it doesn’t have to be accurate or even true and also moslty it is not enough numbers.
I can’t answer your question so I guess this post was directed at Anet who have stated that they will talk about expansions later so wait til that day.
My answer about expansions, I wouldn’t mind an expansion but if I had to choose expansion or Living Story I would choose Living story (Bi-weekly update that is).

I failed to kill tequatl only 3 times in past 2 months while doing it every single day.
And fails were based on noobs on turrets or during defense of Batteries and Megalaser.Even if Tequatl will bug and disappear, he’s even more easier to kill.
Now tell me, how Tequatl is hard to kill so I can laugh more.
Don’t think OP mentioned anything about Teq being hard to kill…?
I am trying to think back when Teq was new and I don’t remeber any parts where Teq had any bugs becouse they didn’t test to kill it. Most annoying thing is the Turret part though and that could be becouse they didn’t test to kill it… but I don’t think that would have made any difference… And is the Turret greifing fixed now?
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
Why does everyone have to run through the game?
If we would get a speedboost for out of combat it would end the same way since after a while it would feel like you must have this speedboost to normalize the speed. Like when I play my warrior who have 25% speedboost trait I don’t feel I am running realy that faster. Sure I notice I run past others. But when I go play my Mesmer who don’t have a sprint skill with after I have played my warrior I feel like my mesmer is slow. But this is just a feeling and the distance you have to travel in GW2 to get from point A – B is so short anyway so I wouldn’t even bother. It is in PvP and WvW I wish I could have speedBoost all the time but if I had it would be unbalanced and ruin the purpose of equiping speed skills and traits for classes who can do this.
For PvE I have never fealt the need for speed, sure I have had times when I had to run through ha whole map to get to my guilds bounty becouse I hadn’t explored the map but it took me just a few minutes and i think we can run through every map unexplored under an hour (Run through not explore it).
Take a chillpill and enjoy the enviroment and explore the world, Anet have made a beatuiful world for us and well in my opinion it is awesome to explore it with all my 8 characters almost everytime I find something new.
Edit: Oh by the way, we have a speedboost for out of combat already and we have had players complaining that we get slow for getting in to combat.

if the game was social why i can not trade the acendet box i do not need for a fractal skin i like ?
only interaction with ppl is the chat and dungeon runs (WvW is not social to all you do is capture points and kill zerg no social interaction at all)
why when i ask in chat a question the answer is “go check guides” no one is helping anyone and why so ?
you did your lvl 50 today no reason to go again >_>
yes games are exploited and ppl are trols to each other but dealing with this problems is what build great guilds and friends that you can trust.
when developers take this from players then why bother ?
why bother helping anyone with questions just go see guide ?
why help anyone do his AC run when i will get noting and just louse my time ?
why do i care if some one have the asendet box i want and i have the skin he likes ?
just go do fractal a million times AND maybe you will get it ! MAYBE !
So in short you are angry becouse there is no trading function and the best gear in the game is bound on account?
Umm… I played LotrO before GW2 and I couldn’t trade the best gear with my friends, every special gear I got was bound when you looted it and all tokens was too. Bound Bound Bound Bound bound to character everywhere… Aleast in GW2 it’s now bound on account. When I played WoW it was just like LotrO. I dunno how it is now though… Anyway I don’t think there is any difference to GW2 ascended gear and any other games “best” gear.
You can’t trade the best stuff in other games I am pretty sure.
In GW2 you can still trade more or less everything you get but the “trade” function is not there for good reasons. But you can still mail it or put it on TP.
If I can help people I always help and thus I am very social and social this game is for me. If I have questions I mostly get answers but if I don’t I don’t pout, I look it up on wiki. I got a Guild, there is almost always someone online there so I just go ‘Heya’ and I have a social time in guild chat.
I also wonder who you are asking since when I see people asking questions on map, be it WvW or PvE I see good answers and many posting the same respons a few times in a row becouse so many want’s to help. The responses you say you get sounds more like responses you get if you ask them here on this forum.
But also don’t expect to get a good answer on questions like ‘How do I get new skills’ or ‘What can I do with Skillpoints after I learned all skills* and so on, since giving a good answer to those needs quite a few minutes to explain and people are actually playing the game so it’s better to look it up on the internet. A good advice is the GW Wiki and it’s easy to get there just write ‘/Wiki’ in the chat (Wihtout the ’) and your web browser will open the Wiki site.
Being social isn’t just about helping and sending stuff. Just the other day I played Hotjoin PvP and I wrote like gg red/blue team and wrote to players doing a good job or players escaping from me. I wasn’t rude, I just said like ‘Cämon Fight like a man :P’ or ‘Wow you are realy good’ and stuff like that and mostly I got replies and the one whom I said ’C’mon fight like a man :P’ too we started map chatting for many maches after that.
Actually one of the best points about this game is that it is so easy to socialize with other players. Don’t matter if it’s PvP, PvE or WvW as soon as I write good things I get good things back.

gimme GW3 (that will be more like GW1)
I know a game that is exactly like GW1!!!
It is… Wait for it…
…Guild Wars 1!

How I understand it why Engi’s and Eles can’t switch is becouse they already have so many skills to swap between.
By switching weapon you clear it’s runes… I have the “same” problem with my Guardian wich I have Mace/Focus and Staff/Greatsword. It’s not a massive problem I guess but I think it would be but if stacks would reset when ewuipping a new weapon people could prepare for a fight with a weapon with a stack sigil and then Re-equip another weapon with a more direct effect thus making you use more sigils than you can have. Sure engis and eles will only be able to use to while others can use 4 I get that but still these weapons are used.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
Then it will take you maybe 20 or 50 years in PWI to level to 105.
I doubt it. If it is attainable through game play then I expect I would get it in a time frame similar to others’ experiences. If it requires crafting then I would never get it.
In order to get a full set of ascended gear I am likely to need several years worth of appropriate kill rewards. Sure I could get lucky and get the drops one after another in a single day of play, but the odds are very much stacked against that.
Are you sure? I havent played that game so I dunno…
I don’t like the idéa that I have to craft ascended iether but I would rather do that then fighting the same enemies over and over and over again to level up my character. But as you are able to obtain Ascended via drops you are likely to get a full set ascended in less than 5 years if you just play the game.
Not grindy at all, you are creating your own grind. I play to have fun and if I happen to have the materials needed for something I craft it…
What do you, personally, do while you’re ‘playing to have fun’?
That is a hard question to answer and it wont do much different to aswer since we all have different tastes. But if you had asked me:
- I Explore the world with my alts together with friends and guild.
- I do Guild Missions.
- I help friends and Guild with stuff they need help with.
- I do Dungeons, mostly with my friends who only play on weekends.
- I try to figure out new build for PvP, WvW, PvE and Dungeons.
- I try to find nice deals on TP to earn gold.
- Most of all I play the Living Story when there is one.
- I do sPvP.
- I do WvW with my Guild.
(Most of the stuff here is not super-fun doing for yourself but I realy enjoy playing with friends and Guild. It is an MMO after all).
There has been a little less playtime for me in Guild Wars 2 now due to absence of Living World, but whenever my friends are playing or my Guild is doing something fun I am more or less always online. sPvP is something I do a little everyday though I am just a Hotjoin-hero.
—
Still nothing you have to do but…
I have been thinking. This game may be grindy afterall…
I mean almost every Living Story part has been about doing the events over and over again to get the neat new stuff that is hidden inside the corpses :P
But on the other hand in my opinion the Grinding LS is realy fun and it is not forever.

(edited by EdgarMTanaka.7291)
You need full ascended in order to be competitive in this game. It is a horrible, expensive grind. Just wait until you see legendary armor!
If you suck, yeah.
Course even then you’ll still suck and get walked right over. You’ll just be slightly fancier loot bag.
Or I’m good and now I’ll be even better with top gear. I wouldn’t want non optimized players anywhere near my team because they are unwilling to put in the effort for their own and the team’s benefit.
Sounds like someone that feels they need to rely on marginal stat increases to me.
Also, I assume you’re talking WvW, since there is nothing competitive in PVE at all and sPVP (the only real competition) has no ascended tier.
WvW just amounts to blob vs blob, in which your individual gear is meaningless. Unless we’re talking roaming which I guess if you have very low standards for competition you can call it that, which even then gear beyond exotic means very little and roaming itself contributes fairly little.
The only place ascended matters is fractals, and that’s only because it can be infused. However, there’s again nothing competitive about PVE content so I’d assume you’re not talking about fractals either.
Why wouldn’t I want the highest stats? Higher is better.
But I forgot that I’m on the GW2 forums where stats don’t matter even though all the gear has stats on it and everyone is in at least exotics (why not settle with greens if it doesn’t matter?). A place where a 10% increase in damage between tiers is “irrelevant”. It’s really quite laughable.
I’m still waiting for you to show me where this competition that ascended makes any real difference in is.
I prefer to to optimize my own characters to the best of my abilities. Sorry that’s so difficult for you to understand.
Some people prefer to run around in all greens with their special snowflake builds. All the power to them. But let’s not pretend that there is no difference between the snowflake and the optimal.
Your original point was it is required for one to remain competitive.
You have yet to back that up or even say where that is the case, all you are basically saying so far is it’s a grind because you choose to make it one for marginal stat increases, and yes 10% is marginal even without comparing the cost/gain which is less drastic cost wise with exotics and below.
Um, it’s pretty simple. If I want to remain competitive, and be the best I could be, I have to have max stats in WvW. I have to have max stats in PvE as well, because I’m one of those people who actually CARE about doing very well, and I hate dragging the team down.
Like I said, other people can special snowflake it all they want, but don’t go calling me “bad” or my gear a “crutch” just because I enjoy improving my character.
I usually play weekends with my friends who only plays on weekend, so they are pretty casual players. Though me and my Girlfriend we play alot more and we got full ascended with our chars and I havent noticed any change in the speed we compleate dungeons. Well a little change in time but it is hard to tell if it is the gear or if it is becouse we are getting better at the dungeons and I more think it is becouse of the last. But it is just a difference of a minute or two, so if we all had ascended we would do 3min faster :P
We don’t wipe, we don’t or atleast rarely die so the only difference would be time.
Ascended being a must to be a viable player is bull, not even Exotic is needed but the lower you go the harder it gets.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
but how about the mechanics of the game? or like new items types or whatever. new shops. i don't know where to read this. does the wiki have those info?http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_summary/Season_1
That should pretty much sum up the living story for you
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
I would call the crafting system grind, at least for me becouse i dont do Pve and on WvW nodes are mostly ignored.
So its hard for me to lvl crafting jobs.
But you get pretty much $ by doing WvW atleast I do compared from when I do regular PvE. So you should be able to buy crafting mats.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
Legendary – Hard to get – High cost – Most wanted – Alot of players show of.
Another weapon – Easy to get – Low cost – Everyone has – Few players show of.
Starting to say this is just my opinion but most legendary Weapons looks like crap and even if they don’t majority of all players are using them to show us what they have got. So I wouldn’t wanna be just like everyone else. Well obviosly the 2H-Swords have obvious effects and many likes it but please take a look around and I am sure that you can start counting them. But as for Seraph Greatsword(http://argos-soft.net/GW2/WeaponGallery/index.php?weapon=6&skinID=100fd5d&lang=en)… How many can you count using that sword?
I think most people grind in this game for bragging rights becouse there is no point in grinding in this game realy. Most of the stuff you will get eventually just by playing the game and enjoy it. As I have said before, the only thing IMO that I can think of is grindy is Dungeon armor and weapons since the only way to get it is by doing the same 3-4 dungeon paths over and over and over again. Well now you can play PvP to get them and guess what? I do that and it is way wonderfull and IMO no grind.
I have played GW2 since headstart and I am pretty sure I can get myself a Legendary now if I wan’t, though I have never got a Precursor drop
I am totaly against grind and I don’t feel that GW2 is even near any other MMO I have played when it comes to grind and these games isn’t even Korean games.
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
I like the megaservers, I like the idéa.
The time I have spent doing exploration on the maps has been wonderfull but the only setback for me is that my PC isn’t strong enough so I have lower FPS and loading time is longer but that is all my problem not megaserver.

Can’t you just Craft, buy on TP, find/loot, trade for a new rune?
If there is one item you can’t salvage, buy a new one on TP… That’s what I do. Actually I don’t even understand why there is so many people with this problem? There has only been a few times I had a gear that couldn’t be salvaged and that did not bother me that much at all. So is there runes that are locked in to these un-salvagable gears that you can’t aquire in another way that just upgrade extractor?
On the other hand, let’s say that just that rune is worth 20g but convert enough gold to gems is maby cheaper?
Guild Leader of Alpha Sgc [ASGC]
To choose iether I would go for LS becouse I love how we can’t play through the whole story in a week and every two weeks there is always something new to look forward too. Compared to expansions from other games there is content for a week or two maby three and then there is nothing new for a whole year or a halv year at minimal and players complain that there is nothing new and blablabla… Ugh, people always complain… Ah.. I did it too just now!
Living Story is wonderfull imo.
Expansion would be nice but not something I demand, but if there was an expansion I would never want them to stop making the LS.
