It’s on Alpha atm but it sounds like you wanna play “Planet Exploreres”. :P

But… eh some people just don’t know what game they are buying it seems… OP what did you expect when you bought GW2? Ok, mounts is pretty common in MMO’s but ‘parachuting, gliding cliff jump, ski, paddle, ride balloons and finally Design your own clothes’, in what MMO’s is this something you would expect GW2 to have? In my opinion GW2 has the most options to design your outfit as you want than any other MMO’s that I have played atleast. About flying, you can ride a hot air balloon but there is no CG or animation on that though. About mounts, not this again I have stated my opinion on this before.

Sorry don’t wanna be rude but… I may have just been bait since this post feels kinda like trolling.

Problem with bows...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EdgarMTanaka.7291

EdgarMTanaka.7291

I don’t really see how that affects my enjoyment of the game, because I don’t really know a difference. It’s a bow, it fires an arrow.

One guy was complaining that pine is a soft wood not hard wood and we shouldn’t get hard wood from pine. He’s undoubtedly right.

Do most people care? I don’t think so.

Edit: Keep in mind you can kill a deer and get armor and weapons from it.

Once upon a time in STO, people (myself included) pointed out that a particular Starfleet starship didn’t have the proper red (port) and green (starboard) navigation lights. It was fixed, because the devs working on the ships at the time actually cared enough to want to get it right.

The difference between this “problem” and STO “problem” is that in STO there is Lore about the Starship and how they look while in GW2 there is no lore saying that the bows names isn’t reversed. Though it’s kinda eh… If it was since a recurved bow looks “recurved” … But also in my opinion a recurved bow should be another category of bows becouse it is, it should be stronger than an ordinary Longbow if it would be a longbow, but also Recurved bows was smaller (Shortbows that is). Weapons has a history and a special use for them all. Like most of the Greatswords in GW2 would be imposssible to wield becouse of heavy wieght and if I remember correct greatswords where mostly used by people on horseback as it was to heavy to swing so they used the power of the horse to deal great damage. (Could be untrue though, no fact)
Blablabla…

After writing all this I understand OP’s concern and I agree that Recurved bows should be renamed to recurved Bows and/or atleast regular bows should not be named Recurved Bows.
Becouse I can immagine that this is as horrible for the OP and some others to see as if there would be a grammar error in the text somewhere and I know that they fix that.

Ready Up is Bad Quality

in PvP

This thread is actually a good example too why it is more complaints in the forums than praise posts. C’mon it is a game company and the update information is precented to us by programmers, storywriters and more. As Katzbach said they rather spend their money on improving the game instead on hiring actors or train original personal to be more used to the camera.

I think Karl made a good job explaining the changes and I have english as a secondary language and usually has a hard time to keep up when americans speak wich results in me missing half of the information. But I think Karl was very calm, and thanks to the few pauses he did I can keep up.

There is a hater in every section, Anet can’t even be so kind to make a clip to present any changes without getting complaints about how bad quality the clip has :P

Umm… By the way… why is this one in the sPvP section?

I can’t wait to try out these new changes I am a little scared for these Cowardly rangers who pew-pew from far far away. Before damage they did was liveable in a 1Vs1 so you could live long enough to cap and then charge the ranger, now I doubt that :P It’s not bad, it is good I guess but well I loathe cowards

For the love of Grenth, will someone at Anet make Signet of Vampirism a usable skill? I mean, just look at it! It’s a healing skill that will get you killed. Does no one care?

I realy like Signet of Vampirism; it works ok in PvP with my Power Minion Master (Much better than with Blood Fiend). In PvE it is the best healing skill ever, and when in a pinch activating it for a boss battle you not only will heal yourself but everyone else with good amount of health. For me I go between Well of Blood and Signet of Vampirism depending what I do and what build I use. In my opinion Blood Fiend is the worst healing since it is such an unrelyable healing.

Gw2 still bad??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EdgarMTanaka.7291

EdgarMTanaka.7291

Hello, I bought gw2 long long time ago. More specifically I preodered it. And I was very very very VERY disappointed with:
-crashes
-empty servers
-no end game
-grind all the time (80 lvls?? Come on in gw1 there were 20. I could hit max lvl in 3 hours. In gw2 its much much longer)
-crafting – also grind
-dumb login procedure (every time I had to login onto my mail, I still have to)
-support not responding for tickets
-Boring classes (skills – small amount and all almost same [deal x dmg] )
-5x Guardian team so op
-No level scalling (80lvl character in 30lvl area is still stronger than 30 lvl character there)
-Gem shop news all the time
-Insane server structure (gw1 districts ftw)

So my question is:
Is anything improved right now? Or I have to wait for Guild Wars 3?
Or just play gw1 – best mmo ever made.

Probably this thread will be deleted so gg arenanet.

If not – Wow You can deal with some criticism? Awesome.

Thanks For Answers.

-crashes = Had few crashes from time to time at headstart and a month after but never had a crash after that.
-empty servers = Megaservers ftw
-no end game = What is end game? I don’t think there will ever be any “end game” in this game.
-grind all the time (80 lvls?? Come on in gw1 there were 20. I could hit max lvl in 3 hours. In gw2 its much much longer) = Have almost never grinded in this game and most importantly not fealt the need to grind or to grind to level up. Even though there is 80 Levels in this game it is almost easier to get to level 80 than to get to level 20 in GW1.
-crafting – also grind = If you think it is a grind, don’t to it if you don’t like it, but crafting has gotten “worse”. But compaired to other MMO’s crafting is a walk in the park.
-dumb login procedure (every time I had to login onto my mail, I still have to) = It is not stupid but a good way to protect you from hackers and there is a way for you to not have to go through mail all the time.
-support not responding for tickets = Not getting the full story but all I know is that support has done an awesome work for me and my friends.
-Boring classes (skills – small amount and all almost same [deal x dmg] ) = That’s the point.
-5x Guardian team so op = Just no… Play the game for crying out loud, I can’t even beleave that you played this game for six months.
-No level scalling (80lvl character in 30lvl area is still stronger than 30 lvl character there) = There is level scaling and they have done some work to it, but it is realy hard to make the game even. Ofcourse a level 80 with 80 gear will be better than a level 30 with 30 gear… But a level 80 with 30 gear is not better.
-Gem shop news all the time = Please… There is no banners floating around in the game telling you that you have to buy anything. Once you open the BLTC you will see it and well… How wierd is it that when you enter a shop they have signs with their best deals up O_o How odd! And well before you press play on the startup there is news about the game and sometimes they say we now have quaggan backpacks!!! Woohooo!!! Is that wrong? That is how they earn their money. But you are never forced to buy anything and it isn’t interupting your gameplay at all. Try playing LotrO and try to dodge the store.
-Insane server structure (gw1 districts ftw) = Yea Destricts are nice…

Howewer, I’m not against this kind of content in general. But when it presented like “Super new content” “super new feature” and when you wait for it…and…Ah. So disapointing.

But…but it is just an opinion… is it not?
Even if they do present it like that, is it so wrong for them to be proud of their own game? I mean look at the show ‘(insert country) got Talent’ and see how there are people who realy makes fools out of themselfes but in their own mind they are cool, awesome and super … Maby 90% does not agree but they are still allowed to think that what they did was awesome.

The latest feature patch in my opinion was Super new feature and the new LS mechanic is in my opinion super new feature and it has super cool new content. I have been very hyped the two recent LS updates and I havent been disapointed and I have been disapointed on some previous LS updates.

i wonder when ppl will realize this LS will bring nowhere and when anet will back on their old track….
there are thousand of game out there with a better story…and my heart bleed when i see such a beatiful game potential wasted in this way.
There is no endgame in this. OP is right , 2 month ( or more ) for development to play a 10 min story? endgame ? repeat over and over.
Anet cant satisfy players in this way…unless they bring out a new story every week.

‘This LS will bring nowhere’? What? What do you mean?
I already see and hear people cheering over how wonderfull this new LS mechanic and story is, so I don’t see why in the world they would go back to how it was before.
I realy realy like the story and how it works, I realy like that we have two weeks to wait for the next episode so I can speculate and read of other speculating of what to come and what is going on. I love the community in the Living Story topics. And also Season two has been going on for 5 weeks not two months and I couldn’t play trough the first instance in ten minutes (Including reading the story).

I also like that you don’t get lot’s of loot from NPC’s in the story instances, they are not meant to be farmed they are meant for enjoyment and to challange yourself a little extra. There is enough loot on the new map.
In OP’s point of view it sound like he/she want loot loot loot otherwise the game is boring. Where have the enjoyment of replaying something for the story or just the pleasure of having succeded something challanging? Sure I get it, it is always nice to know that there is a fat reward waiting for you but hello it is not that important is it?

Read carefully pls. I don’t need “Loot loot loot” like you said.
So, you speak about grind? Isn’t “story repeating” kind of grind? But even worse… same dialogs… same NPC moves…a lot of NPC moves…And you Can’t skip it.
And this is was presented like “SUPER NEW FEATURE”. Who need this in 2014? This isn’t dandy/sega game. We need more mods and diversity, especialy in PvP. Not this…
P.S. Loot option was under mark “At least” – only becaue it give an illusion of progress.

I am sorry for stating that. My bad.

Well this is how the repeating story works for me… For example we are getting closer to the release of the third move of the Hobbit movies and I am starting to get the urge to see the old hobbit movie and the last two new ones again. I don’t get loot or see no achievement reward for looking at these movies again but I get the enjoyment for looking at them again. So for GW2 that is a game and the story continues if you do well, so it is rather nice to have the opurtunity to challange myself to some new achievements during the second playthrough. So to be honest, right now I don’t feel like doing the story again but as this is now permanent I can’t say I will never play it again and when I do I can challange myself even harder. Sure there are other players who hunts achievement so they play the story over and over again untill they succed, but that is their choice. So my point is that I do not feel forced to replay the story but more rather when I do I get some small extra credit for it and I don’t need anything special becouse the story is something I do becouse I like it and I want to. If there would have been loot from the mobs wouldn’t people start to farm the story instances becouse there is quite alot mobs and you don’t have to worry about compeeting to the kill and the loot? … If I remember correct I think that happened in the Personal story at the beginning…

In my opinion, the option to repeat is not for you to do it straight away for achievements.

It’s so a few months or a year down the track when you get bored and want to relive some old story content, there it is for you. Oh look you can get some achieves at the same time? why not.

Exactly this!

so after yuo played 10 min story…your game is on forum? speculating , reading ,writing.

nice game

No after I have played the new story I still enjoy the game, though go to the forums now and then, usually at mornings or at work when I can’t play GW2. In other words; I can enjoy Guild Wars 2 even when I can’t play it.

And as I said the story takes alot more than just 10 minutes and then there are some exploring, some coins to find (Not using Dulfy), events to enjoy and see what has changed in the rest of the world. Sure if you click your way through the story not following it at all, using dulfy to find everything and farming to get the new stuff asap and don’t care for what happens around the world during the LS, sure I guess the living story is short. But I don’t play this game like that.

Addressing a misconception about AP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

EdgarMTanaka.7291

Players who speedrun, has a minimum AP rule, LFG Zerkers only or more stuff like this ruins the fun for me. Therefore I do not group with them. If I happen to join a group and I suddenly get a question about my AP even though I got 13k, I will leave.
If you like the minimum AP rule fine by me but remember you can’t get 4k-5k by doing dungeons only so even if you have 5k AP it does not mean he/she is good at dungeons. Open world, WvW, sPvP, JP’s and LS’s is very different playstyle than dungeons and some speedrunners and elitists has even some special stackpoints and skip parts wich some players (Like me) have never heard of.

I am starting to get tired of all these expansion threads.

GW2 is in my opinion in a realy good spot. I realy like that I can tend to some alt playing and PvP, WvW and lot’s of other stuff while I wait for the LS update every two weeks. If it takes to long I do something else IRL. In other games where small updates and bugfixes accurs once a month at best and finally an expansion arrives each year and you play it for a weak and then it is boring again. You do some alt stuff for a month or two and then there is nothing to do for a year or at best a month when something small has updated that will be over in 5 minutes.

I am still enjoying the stuff that came with the recent LS update and I still havent found all the lost coins for example. I have alot of more places to investigate.

Finally I would like to say; you all who say an expansion is better becouse we will get alot of stuff and with the LS update is nothing compaired to an expansion. Well I havent seen an expansionpack for GW2 so I have no clue if it has more content than we got from a years LS. It is so silly to compair GW2 LS with another games Expansion even if it is GW1, we don’t know what would have happened. All I know is that the Developers wouldn’t be able to take players feedback for one content at a time and I think it would have been even worse than it is now with comments like ‘Devs don’t listen to us’. It takes time before they can release the stuff they have done by listening at us and with the expansionpack model we would see these changes once a year or maby small stuff at the monthly updates. I know from playing other MMO’s with this model and reading their forums.

Mounts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EdgarMTanaka.7291

EdgarMTanaka.7291

yes to mounts.

so many selfish people who don’t want others to have mounts but don’t want their waypoints to get taken away

And…

yes.

mounts are awesome

Don’t think it helps if you say it more times… Trying to be a crowd by yourself?

Waypoints works as they are and if they where to be taken away storywise maby mounts would be needed but it would be a very bad decision from Anet since they control the story so they can make the story so they waypoints won’t all die. So if you think that “we” who don’t want mounts are selfish, what are those who wan’t the perfectly working Waypoints to be taken away and replaced by mounts?

Why I don’t want mounts?
They are not needed, we got waypoints.
They are not needed, we got sprint skills.
They will affect gameplay, becouse the mounts most people who wants mounts should have much higher speed and if they are supposed to replace waypoints they realy needs to have higher speed. Wich would in the end require you to have a mount and then how would WvW look like, there would have to be alot of new programming to do … Those who have 100% exploration on foot (Like me) have worked hard while with mounts it will be a rush and you will miss half of the scenery. People will rush more and miss alot of stuff. Instead of stopping and help people will just ride on by and don’t bother to help a fallen or falling player (I have seen it so many times in Lotro).
In fact I loathe pocket horses, where in the world do they pull out their horse from?

I have stated before what kind of mounts I would like for GW2 and that is like siegedevourers, golems, Bikes and other stuff that you can take from enemies and these things will have special skills made for that specific vehicle. If you leave map with them you will loose it, if it is destroyed you will loose it, If you waypoint with it you will loose it and so on.

Zaishen Chest for GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EdgarMTanaka.7291

EdgarMTanaka.7291

First of all Black Lion tickets don’t “drop” in PvE. The come from Black Lion Chests which are cash shop items. I’m pretty sure you won’t find them in any other in game reward.

Secondly PvP has added new reward tracks which give you the sort of stuff you’re talking about, and leveling in WvW gives you chests (and possibly bonus chests). Plus killing champs give you champ bags (and there are plenty of champs).

I’m pretty sure it’s not going to happen, but I wouldn’t particularly mind if it did.

Actually in a sense there is a way to get ‘Black Lion tickets’ from PvE. By exploring a map 100% you have a chance of getting a key. I though think it is also possible to get a key by doing daily so it isn’t impossible to get keys by only doing WvW and PvP iether :P Though I have been doing PvE, PvP and WvW in GW2 since headstart and got alot of keys, never bought one and I have a total of 5 ticket scraps in my bank :P So doing PvE isn’t realy a good option to get these tickets iether.

@OP: If we talk about loot I get better loot from playing PvP than Playing PvE. I have got 2 ascended trinkets, 2 ascended weapons and 2 Ascended Armor pieces. Not that I do much stuff PvE that rewards Ascended stuff but I have never got an ascended drop from PvE. By playing PvP for an hour rewards me mostly with atleast one exotic drop but playing PvE (Not farming) rewards me rarely with an exotic for a full day. Also by doing PvP even if I loose 100% sooner or later I will get the top reward of a farmed dungeon but if I do a Dungeon PvE and fail over and over again I will more or less never get my dungeon armor or weapon piece.

Rewards in PvP is in a pretty good spot so even PvPers are complaining that PvEers are doing PvP to farm gear.

3rd party program for injury.

I lost the use of my primary, right hand in January 2013. If my info is helpful…

I actively play Guild Wars 2 with my off, left hand and NO add-ons. To do so, I use a Logitech touchpad and keyboard.

This isn’t to say that a software add-on might be helpful. I just don’t use one.

I’ve also remapped my keyboard to reduce the distance my fingers must move for various actions, using the built-in GW2 key assignments.

I use GW2 as physical therapy for my damaged limb.

A few level 80s, a good set of achievements, good times with my wife and adult daughters… GW2 works fine for me.

That is very helpfull, we will have a look at that. Thanks for the information.

@Astral Projections: Thanks, I have read that before over and over again :P But since she actually uses a macro to move I got a little worried. Anyway there is no macros for skills involved anyway.

@Gaile Gray: Thanks, It’s good to hear that.

I just read the post about the Zoom 3rd party program and there where some answers that bothered be. I know that the Zoom program is just for advantage and one should be banned to use. But my girlfriend has a problem, I have wrote about it before over a year ago and I guess I still will only get the same answers but I wanna try again.

My girlfriend realy loves this game but she has a handinjury that makes her unable to play with mouse and keyboard and we have tried all sorts of trackballs and everything. The only option she has is to play with a cideko air keyboard conqeror controller and using the 3rd party program Xpadder. To make this work in GW2 we had to program the movement with Macros (something like “Right mouse click + A”) to make the character strafe when she moves the stick to the left. Using 3rd party programs and using macros is against the rules but she has to and well… She has been using this for almost as long as GW2 has been on the market and she must use it. But if she gets banned what can she do to prove that she needs it?

What got me in to this again was the thing others said in another post, they said ‘If you use a 3rd party program that can give advantage it is always to get an advantage.’ Well since she does not use it for advantage, with controller she has a disadvantage becouse she cannot aim well or rather not at all with target/aim skills so she never uses skills like that. Also she does not have the moveablility that you have with a keyboard and mouse, she can’t turn as precise and quickly that you are supposed to do.

I like OP’s idea ^^
Not showing stats or anything just cosmetic and what kind of armor.
But I just got a bad idea on top of that since I like when people whisper me and say they like how my character looks

There could also be a feature where when you “inspect” another players cosmetic you can also check a box for “Like” by doing this you can check the cosmetics later on like ‘What was it that player had now?’ and also players can see how many players have checked the box and see how many who “Likes” or “Tracks” your armor :P Thats alot of work I know but … :P

I don’t know mutch about coding and how that stuff works but what I know is that every peice of information takes up space on Anet server… So by having infinite ammount of crafting on so many players that is playing the game would take alot of space.

- Byte is the smallest accessible piece of information that computer holds. It consists of eight bits and can have 2^8 = 256 different states. Number of onions in your bank can be expressed in the value of one byte. The size of modern games is often expressed in gigabytes. One gigabyte is 1 073 741 824 bytes. I hope this gives you a perspective just how much space your bank is consuming.

Would you rather never have the option to get bigger stacks?

- Alright, so you’ve resigned yourself to the idea that whatever Anet does is the necessary and good action to take. When they ease the burden they themselves have caused on you, you feel happy. Sounds like a recipe of abusive relationship.

As I said I don’t know enough about it to be arguing about it. There is a reason to why they have had 250 stacks even since beginning of GW1.

I havent resigned myself to the idea that whatever Anet does is the necessary and good action to take. But as I don’t disagree to what they have made yet, it may look like that. But as soon as P2W stuff pops up in the shop I will start complaining I assure you that, but as it just is convenience, fluff, servers and cosmetics I fully support a game trying to make money in their more or less only way of making money.
This is totaly off topic and I wont argue anymore about this, atleast not here.

Making gathering tools account wide

I think you are pretty unfair to blame Anet from making stupid decisions.
Stacksize limit of 250 has been in the game since the release, it is nothing they put in later on. The limit is there for a reason and for a few months ago they let us pay a few gems (wich you still can get for gold) to up this limit for those who collect more crafting materials.

- So you’re paying for something that’s completely artificial limitation. Value given to variables in the code. It’s not content or experiences. Is this what gaming has become?

I don’t know mutch about coding and how that stuff works but what I know is that every peice of information takes up space on Anet server… So by having infinite ammount of crafting on so many players that is playing the game would take alot of space. 250 has been the stack limit even in GW1 and there I don’t even recall being able to get bigger stacks only to get more storage space.

Would you rather never have the option to get bigger stacks?

I gladly pay some Gold for bigger stacks yes… And I have payed with real cash also and I do not regret that, since I don’t pay monthly I gladly pay a few euros now and then to support the game.

People asked for them to be account bound, they did that. Now it is account wide. If they do that what will be next? Not need any at all and just harvest by looking at the node?

- Have you ever seen a tool that only one person is able to use?
Neither have I.

Could we at least pretend for a second that the overall direction a game should take would be towards what is ‘fun’ rather than speculated effect on player ‘metrics’.

Nah, screw fun, that’s for other games. Instead let’s think of ways how gathering would be the most boring and tedious task ever. I know, let’s make it so that gathering tools can only be used for limited time! And you must change the gathering tool depending what quality stuff you’re harvesting! Then let’s limit stack sizes! Then, as an insult to injury, let’s raise a paywall to lessen these handicaps.
Oh wait they already did all of that.

Everyone does not require more stacksize and with that it’s not as “costly” as it would have been to give every player 1k stacksize or none even. In other MMO’s I have played stacksizes are smaller and Require even more materials to craft (Not countnig ascended stuff :-/). I am very happy that Anet let me have the option to up my stack limit, it was a nice implemented feature to a pretty cheap prize.

The special crafting tools was bound to characters in the beginning, they have been kind enough to make them Bound on Account now and I am realy happy for that since now I can swap them between my characters when I know I will be exploring a long time with that char.

For me fun is not only pressing one button and I am level 80 and have a Legendary, Finnished all Achievements and so on. Fun for me is when I have to plan ahead, prepare for an adventure and ofcourse the adventure in itself. I don’t wan’t everything served on a plate to make it all fun. Your compairison with real life is wierd, ofcourse we can use eachothers tools (That’s why they are bound on account) but we can’t use them at the same time in different locations.

Honestly, how many of you would’ve rather seen an expansion pack?

Living story gives us:
- Free updates
- Every 2 or so weeks
- Small amount of content

An expansion pack gives us
- Paid update
- All updates in one big batch
- Massive amount of content

Now, I don’t want to sound like an ungrateful person, but I’d rather have paid for an expansion pack. Why? Because I would have loved to see a new profession, race, a lot of new lands and more! Me and friends have been speculating the Chronomancer ever since before release. We were all very sad when it didn’t come as we were wanting to make a video series about “Back to the Future”. Alas…

I think you are pretty unfair in your compairison.
This is how it looks in my eyes.

Living story gives us (Based on the experience I have got from paying GW2 since headstart.):
- Free updates.
- Every 2 or so weeks.
- Small to medium amount of content.
- A reason to play atleast once every two weeks or so.
- Gives the Developers a chance to do small tweaks to the LS every two weeks or so depending on players feedback.
- World changes little by little.
- Something new to look forward to every two weeks or so.
- A few Bugs that mostly get fixed at patch week or until next patch.

An expansion pack gives us (Based on experience from other MMO’s with this feature.):
- Paid update.
- All updates in one big batch once a year at best.
- Massive amount of content.
- A reason to shelf the game a year to play other games.
- A truckload of bugs that will take massive ammount of time to fix.

Saying an update will bring us Dungeons and other stuff that we didn’t get from the LS updates is bull since we don’t know what we would have gotten from an Expac.

First of, “we” are very protective about Taimi and worried about her but decides we can leave her since it is safe there.

After looking at the new trailer and notice alot of vines in the village and I bet that she will be in trouble.

How many exotics do you find in a week?

I play around 4-15 hours a week, I have MF ~130%
Counting just from drops I have got 0.
Counting from exotic boxes and bags I usually get around 1-3 exotics a week, I think that is enough.

EdgarMTanaka.7291

This is my /age.

The sad thing is that due to alot of small stuff to do now and then lately I have had quite lot’s of idle time (10 Hours max).

Edit:

So I shouldn’t tell you I have over 7000 hours logged…gotcha.

Don’t worry I’m in the same boat… Think I have something like 2.5k+ hours in 200something days. So… Way too much time logged. Worst part is, very little of it has been spent idling and I still don’t have a legendary.

Gah. Four legendaries and I’m taking a break from them. Too much work.

Lol, crafting is like a foreign language to me… I want to make an ascended or a legendary but I don’t understand how to craft and have never really bothered to try. Just sad with all this time logged I don’t have a legendary or map completion, but nearly 1,000 ranks in WvW :P

I don’t think you should be sad about having no Legendary or map compleation. The most important part is that you have fun playing the game. If you don’t find crafting, trying to get legendary or map compleation fun, why should you do it? Eventually by doing the things you think is fun you will probably end up having atleast map compleation and maby even a Legendary. Well it may take another 30 years but you had fun while doing it. There are other players who aim to get bragging rights and just burn through those parts of the game and then they are totaly burnt out on the game overall.

I have map compleation finnished but that is becouse I find exploring entertaining and interesting but Legendary is for me totaly unimportant becouse they are ugly (There are much cooler exotic weapons) and i find grinding booring so I go with the mindset that if I get a Precursor and can craft a legendary I will sell it.

well i agree with you Vayne, some players prefer to do events and some players prefer dungeons. Anyway im having alot of fun leveling so thats only thing that matters i guess.

Umm… First I wanna point out to you how to quote and reply without having to post twice. First you select the arrow on the post you wanna quote (Quote this user) then on the next page write your own text under the [./quote]

Anyway, remember that this game is not all about leveling, in my opinion atleast. The game has so much more to offer you once you have level 80. Also about dungeons, compaired to other games GW2’s dungeons is not “just” a dungeon but an instance with more paths to take. So one dungeon is more or less 3-5 dungeons in one, what I am saying is that don’t forget the explorer paths of the dungeons

They just added new PvE content… O_o

There will be no raids in this game… Not atleast for a very long time as I have got the feeling. But… If you want massive player content you should do Tequatil and three headed Wurm atleast. Then there has been some Living story content that unfortunatly was temporary that has quite a good teamwork massive player battles.

If you want more dungeons go try Fractals.

Oh, btw… Everything is booring after some time, even dungeons… It all boils down to how much you play them and how much you are willing to play them.

I would never want GW2 to have content I need to grind to get. Hard to get like Legendary or ascended but not grindy.

But I liked that I can’t go to Orr right away after loging in for the first time. I had to earn the right to go there and it was so cool and well worth the effort. After all the journey to Orr was more fun then itself.

Well there is a difference between progress and grind. Like personal story in GW2 you can’t skip it all and compleate the game without doing the story from start to finnish. As long as there is a story and new things to do and not just mindless wacking same enemy over and over again to get stuff needed to trade to get a key that you need 50 of to open a gate to a dungeon and whatever, then I am all for it. But grind is a big no no in my book.

Why does guardian have 2 same traits in zeal traitline, XII and XIII, both increasing burning damage? I mean …. who designes these traits x.x .

- Trait XII Kindled Zeal: Gain condition damage based on your power. (All codition damage ups 13% of what you have in power)
- Trait XIII Amplified Wrath: Burning damage is increased. (Fire Damage ups 33%)

Maby you should read them better? They are pretty far from the same thing.
I can’t figure out a build to use Trait XII with though but maby if you go with with rampager stats and have sigil of earth, generocity and/or Torment. Something like that.

EdgarMTanaka.7291

I wish that the Season 2 feel will be more like it was when I first started playing the game and less like it was during season 1.

To make things clear:
Starting the game was fun because I liked how my character grew. I had so many thing to do. So many things to accomplish. But the most fun part of it was the journey to the Orr and discovering the world. So it was both fun and rewarding.
On the other hand… Season 1 was more like this:
1. Complete short story instance.
2. Grind for two weeks to get your new and shiny back piece…

Eumm… The game was new to you when you first started and Anet had worked on the game for what? five years or so? Don’t expect the update to give you the brand new game feeling.
1. I would like a new dungeon with a good story mode and a few explorer mode.
2. I recently wrote in a topic about GW2 being too grindy… I don’t agree but that is beside the point, my point is that I would never want GW2 to have content I need to grind to get. Hard to get like Legendary or ascended but not grindy.

Fastest way to level up?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: EdgarMTanaka.7291

EdgarMTanaka.7291

Do some map compleation, when that is booring you play some PvP, when you get tired of that you play some WvW, then you can join your guild when they wanna do a dungeon (Very good way to level), help a friend or guild mate and yourself with more map compleation(Loot/Keys/money and levels), craft a while now and then with your mats you have got from exploring the world, do worldbosses, have a birthday with your level 80 char and you will get a level up to level 20 scroll and repeat all this and I think you can find more to do.

Why did I say this? Well becouse there is so much more to this game than just level up to level 80 and getting full ascended/legendary gear. The leveling process in this game is in my opinion a tutorial to learn how to play your new class.

Can GW2 be saved?

Nerelith, well said!
+1 to you!!

Anyone thinking megaserver is a positive or good step forward for this game, drank the kool-aid …

More fiends and guildies left the game in the 2.5 months since 15/04/2014 than during the entire time between launch and 15/04/2014 …

The metaphor that best clarifies it for me is… Gw2 was on the brink of a precipice teetering before april 15th. On April 15th, Anet tried to reach out to pull it back, and unfortunately…pushed it over.

You heard it here first folks. Our resident doom sayers have decreed that GW2 shall fail! Just as GW1 failed!

quiet whispers form the sidelines

Oh, GW1 is still running…. hmmm……

Correction folks! Just as WoW has failed!

more quiet whispers from the sidelines

Wait, WoW’s still going? …. And has an expansion around the corner? …. hmmm…

Sorry, I meant…. Just as Tera has failed!

emphatic whispers

Sorry, what? People still play that?

Ok, how about SWToR? People play that too… hmmm…

Nevermind folks. SSDD, nothing to see here…

I never said " Failed Like GUild Wars failed." Ther eis no Gw1, because there is no Guild wars 2. And I went back to playing Guild Wars.

I also never said " Failed Like WoW failed" And By the way, I also play WoW from time to time.

What I did say is…Gw2’s numbers are dwindling, and Anet’s april 14th QoL release when it comes to various of it’s Implementations…. Traits in Zones Higher level than the trait level it unlocks… having to do full map completions..etc… Megaserver. Was the equivalent of reaching out to pull the teetering game back off the edge, only to give it a nudge.

Has it failed? No. Is it failing? Well… that really depends On an HONEST answer to an HONEST question.

What was the point of Megaserver, if the game population is not dwindling.

And for those that claim it’s a good thing even if the game has 50 million players…. another question.

if it’s such a GOOD thing ( this can be debated)… why wasn’;t it in at launch? maybe because it is Anet’s responce to something that happened?

My theory is… dwindling customer base. That left many Game maps dead. Like..a server merge.

The thing is… MMO’s only do server merges when the population drops.

What was the point of Megaserver…
I have already told you what the point with Megaservers is and truth to be told many players asked for it. They never said give us megaservers but there was a constant argue why maps are so dead, well it is not becouse of declining servers but becouse not enough players populate the less interesting maps.

Sure maby it could be as you say that it is a way for Anet to merge servers becouse they are loosing players but it was atleast not the only reason and in my opinion it is the less important reason. It is more like a bonus. This way they don’t have to worry about making new servers again when/if players come back and all maps will be more or less full with players. Win win. Megaservers is something I realy like but there is ofcourse alot of stuff that has to be done with it.

if it’s such a GOOD thing…
Becouse at launch maby they didn’t have that tec or just didn’t think about it, but as game grew and players been asking for a fix to the overflows they did something about it. A good call or not is for community to decide but that may be why they didn’t have it from the start. Just like with everything else they have fixed and nerfed in the game since the release.

Everyone was guesting to three or four servers. Lots of people if not everyone. Giving the impression that other servers had no population. No one really knows.

No, they weren’t. If “lots” of people don’t know basic combat, “lots” of people don’t even know about the guest function, which is in the main menu rather than in game.
If you mean every farmers know about it, and there’s lots of farmers, then yes, I’ll give you that.

Didn’t you play before megaservers where introduced or?
At the beginning of marionette on our server there where lots of players, then it got booring and some stopped doing it. While some stopped doing the event it got harder to compleate so people started to Guest to other servers, I mean whole guilds guested to other servers. People don’t know basic combat but when it comes to getting good rewards people do listen and follows the crowd and also there are even more people who do know basic combat and the guest function.

If those guys counts as “everyone”, then yeah, the player base is extremely small then.

No ofc they doesn’t and I didn’t see that your comment was becouse Vayne said everyone. But you are saying “lots” of people don’t know basic combat and “lots” of people don’t know how to guest. So in my mind it sounded like you say a very good enough chunk of players stayed on their server. But they didn’t. From going to a full map with overflows our server had people guesting from it and finally we where 10 players trying to beat Marionette while my guild and two other guilds I was in was guesting. That is about 100 players. But I missunderstod what you meant so I am sorry.

you do realize megaserver was implemented because of how utterly dead the maps were in the majority of the servers right?
Outside the first 3 tiers or so, majority of the servers were low pop/dead. Megaserver put in place to make it not look so bad.
They could have had mega servers anytime but why now? oh because of how dead some of the servers are getting….

Will this game be fine ? who knows about the future, I hope it will , all I know is the NOW. and right now, its not nearly as active of an MMO as it was and it has been losing players, not gaining/retaining.

Again this is theory, not fact. The fact is that people guested to busier servers because they could ANYWAY. So saying a server is dead because no one was playing on it, didn’t mean the population of that server wasn’t playing on a busier server. I used to guest all the time to different servers. You had guilds like TTS where everyone guested to a dead server at least on Australian times. So for that event that became a busy server. In fact, we’d fill up the map and sometimes have one or two overflows, even in the middle of the US night.

You can’t say what the population is, because you don’t know. The best you can do is guess.

Are less people playing this game now than at launch. Almost definitely. There’s a normal and acceptable attrition in MMOs.

The question isn’t how many people have left, because millions have stopped playing WoW. The question is how many people are still playing, how many have come back, and how many are coming on board with the frequent sales.

Those are the real questions.

I don’t think this game is bleeding players. We’ve had a number of people who left for a year and have come back.

In fact, so many people come back that on Reddit they have a scripted bot now to handle it, because we were getting multiple posts a day.

And only a tiny percentage of people post on forums.

As for the only reason the mega server being introduced is servers being dead, there was another reason. Anyone who played in the Marionette fight, will remember the dozens of threads of people complaining that they couldn’t play on their home server. Those complaints are now a thing of the past.

And I’m sure having players on less servers also saved money in the long run, because you’re not maintaining servers with small amounts of players on them.

pretty odd reasoning, people complained that they couldnt play on their server, so we obliterated their server?

Or another angle, people really didnt like being on overflows for these one monthly events, so we made them have to do it everyday!

I mean i see possible advantages, to the megaserver, if they start building new community tools/features/grouping but to be honest it was not the solution anyone was looking for.

Odd reassoning? Well I tried to play on my server during Marionette event but it was impossoble becouse everyone guested to the most active servers to get more people and have a better chance of success. They even guested becouse getting to and overflow was better than their own servers becouse everyone guested. My server was empty and I had to guest and jump around in overflows to one time finally get to the main server I guested too. Megaserver has fixed this problem and is something in the right direction. People are blinded by the doom and gloom that flows on these forums but I am pretty sure that Megaservers has Nothing to do with game is loosing players or empty servers but more empty maps and also what I have stated a few times before; With Megaservers Anet have finally achieved their goal with populate all maps making them all feel as important as any other map. Now they can focus on making new maps to play on. While Megaservers isn’t perfect it is realy a great step in the right direction.

To OP, I don’t get it why I am not allowed to say that I don’t agree with you and also show Anet that I do not agree with your view of whats good or bad. For me since the Feature patch I have been spending even more Gems to buy cosmetics becouse now I can buy one and get it for all my chars and I don’t have to worry that it will be lost forever if I choose to wear something else. Also townclothing stuff they did was awesome that we now can use them in combat and I can mx and match my hats with my armor. The only shame is that the specific townclothes are now a full set only but it is such a small part of everything that has been better.

Aaaaand… When we talk about other games, I just ordered Bravely Default for DS and will play it alot now and before that I was playing Disgaea D2 and more or less didn’t play GW2 at all. This was now during the wait after feature patch and now. I have been playing alittle on and off with my friends or solo doing some HJsPvP but mostly I have been playing Disgaea D2. But still I have spent money to get gems and now I am so looking forward for 1 July and I will probably play GW2 more than Bravely Default for a while and when I don’t have more to do in GW2 I will play less again and more other games and it will continue like that.

Rant:
What makes GW2 more uniqe that other MMO’s? It is the living story, those who like the LS and GW2 will come back whenever there is a new chapter and do you know the best part about GW2? You don’t have to pay a single dime to come back and enjoy the ongoing content compaired to other MMO’s where you are mostly iether forced to pay a monthly(To use the full content) and/or an expansion pack.
So what makes GW2 different to a regular non-MMO game? Well it has a Bi-weekly update scedual and there is new content every now and then. So why do you think that people can pick up the old game from their cellar plug it in and play it again after 10 years? I mean old classic games like Zelda and Super Mario does not get any updates but still people play them and as kong as you don’t buy gems GW2 is not any harder to pick up and play as any of these old Pay-once-to-play Nes-games.

Rant(TL:DR):
Ehh… My whole point of that last rant is that with GW2 you can put it away for a few years and always comeback and have a look and it won’t cost you to do that. As long as new players start and old players come back this game will live for a long long time.

I think Anet has done a darn good job with this game and for listening on their playebase as much as they do. So many Devs are active here on the forums and they try to please us all without getting their spirits in a downedstate with all this wining. Some of us are very pleased by their work and I beleave in them.

Ohh… I don’t like this, sorry.

First of all less people would craft their gear and more people who have crafted their gear will complain that they have lost mats and time.

Less people would buy Mats on TP and more people would loose interest in the game even faster. Even though it is not it sounds very mutch buy to win as if Anet would have started to sell level up scrolls for gems.

The reason why it is so hard to craft ascended is not to just annoy us it is so that everyone won’t run around with it in just a few days. This happened to Exotic stuff and it was a mistake as I have understand it, it wasn’t supposed to be so easy to get your hands on.

{Sug} Knockoff creates new downed state

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I was playing and was fighting on a cliff edge with a vet that had a knock back that sent me hurtling over the edge. Yes I had already used my stability to save me from that once and it was on cool down. Yet when I used my knock back the vet got sent flying, but at the last possible second he does not go off the edge, oh no, all the npc’s are allowed to not be knocked off the edge.

Which got me thinking of a new idea for GW2. A Downed state for knocking someone off an edge in all areas of the game. NO I do not mean that where you go splat that you go into a downed state. I mean a new downed state that you will latch onto the edge of the cliff in a last ditch effort to save your life. It will sort of act the same as going into a downed state except these new skills will be sort of thought out to help pull yourself back up. I would think you would have a couple of skills that act the same for all players and a couple that are profession based. I haven’t thought out what these skills might be, so feel free to add your suggestion of what these could be for each profession.

And to give some indication of what I am talking about, here is a video from the KungkittenPanda movie that I think might help some people visualize what I mean.

I like the idéa. It is awesome Though it sounds complicated and can be very buggy though I realy hope this can be done.

Most Unplayable I Have Experienced ATM

I suggest that you go play ten games. It will explain much better than I ever could.

Exactly! It’s just lose after lose after lose because you’re always pitched up against 5-man organised team while you’re on the team composed of 1’s and 2’s with no communication.

Plus you’re also always up against OP unkillables (Necros with 500pets & 500million hp, Guard’s with unlimited blocking & immunity etc etc).

This is what my experience of GW2 PvP is…

  • Join game
  • Look at the scoreboard and realise you’re probably going to lose coz of the enemy team compiled of Guards/Necros/Engineers
  • Go capture a base, move onto another one
  • Try kill an enemy that’s at the next base, then realise it’s impossible to kill without another 15players assisting you because they’re OP unkillable build and die trying.
  • Spawn in the base, check the score to see a 100-150point difference and that you’re losing … again
  • Afk and come back now and then to avoid the auto-kick
  • Repeat

In hotjoin it is not like that at all… usually it is just 2-players in TS team and best set-ups for that is Mesmer+Thief or Warrior+Ranger but yea there are other and it can happen that you end up fighting a 5-Man TS team though I don’t think so.

But what ruins the games in Hotjoin is not the TS teams it is the Leavers, Switchers and AFKers just becouse you are under with 150 points.
I have been in matches where we are loosing with scores like 60-290 and all cap points had been enemies but I have got away from enemies farming spot and while enemies been farming kills I have taken All cap points while they have been blinded by blood and finally pushed it all around winning the whole match.

This is what I think you should do:
- Solo Cap Your cap (The one closest to your base).
- Team Cap Middle Cap.
- If fight goes well, go Neutralice Far Cap (The one closest to enemy base).
- If fight is over and you have controll try cap Far Cap.
- Far Cap is just a bonus, don’t try to cap it if your team needs help somewhere else.
- If you are loosing and don’t have any cap, don’t fight in the open (If it happens that you can keep the whole enemy team at you alone that is while your team caps, that’s good then).
- if you can’t beat a bunker alone, don’t even try if the cap isn’t yours if so fight as long as possible while keeping the cap yours.
- Don’t ever look at your score and don’t leave, switch or afk(If you don’t have to, for emergancy IRL stuff).

I may be wrong but that is what I have learned by playing Hotjoins to R41 :P

Btw I play Guardian with alot of blocks and Invurnabilities but remember that
Guardians have low HP and let them waste their Condi Cures and they are done for.
MMNecro Meta is easy atleast for my guardian, just kill their healing minion and then they are easy as pie. Though I have heavy problems against Spite and fear Necros (since they are my builds poison) and against my Girlfriends MMPowerNecro build that I have built myself.
Engineers are tricky but most of them is beatable, the only class I find hard to beat Engis with is my Mesmers but I think I loose mostly becouse I go in to close on them, try to kill them with distance if you can.
The trick is to know what classes/Builds your Class/build can win against.

Wow, this is actually quite funny to read since so many doom and gloomers says that it havent happened anything in this game since release :P

No, this game is far from dead and thanks to MegaServers the game feels even more alive than before (Not counting GW2 first few weeks).

Why your Guild is dead may have the same explanation as to why my first Guild is dead. You joined a Guild full with people from other MMO’s who fell for the Hype and they all (Or most of them) left when the game wasn’t as perfect as they thought so they went back to old MMO’s and those who where still playing joined other Guilds.
But remember that you don’t have to leave your old Guild to join another.

For PvP, here ie a good sticke: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/New-to-PvP-Start-here/first#post3420542
That’s the most important info how to get PvP going and IMO the Class Build they have there is pretty good when you are new.
I only play hotjoin, but there difficulty can vary alot and alot of people are loosers who leaves and switches teams all the time and the fights always gets uneven so Hotjoin as I have heard is not a good PvP experience. So my advice (If you don’t happen to like Hotjoin like me) is that you play hotjoin until you got the basics of PvP and then start SoloQ. Also if you are in to PvP, go to the Heart of the Mists and look for PvP guilds maby? Don’t forget to try WvW.

Here is a little info what has happened now:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_updates
You can always look around in this Wiki, it is a good thing if you have lot’s of questions that need long answers.

I got to be honest tho and say that this game hasn’t changed that much and isn’t so hard to get the hang of again.

And Welcome back, I hope you will like your second time even better.

B-b-b-b-bobbles?!!

ooooh noooooooooooooooooooooo i fear that this is a forum topic which is legitimately and without cynicism encouraging anet to not only recycle content, but also CHARGE for recycled content

oh no it really is a forum post doing all of this

oh my god my eyes are bleeding ohhhhhhhh noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

When Anet released the bobble heads as their 4-1 prank, there were people that came on here and blatantly told them “we like this. we want to make this something permanent in the game. we’d be willing to buy it. please give it to us.” The flip side of the coin was that there were probably equally many that did not like it. Anet listened to both. This is now a part of the game as something you can purchase, and only those that enjoy it can partake of it.

And yet you kitten because Anet is listening to what their customers are asking them for….

So true. Very well said!

Hotjoin

hey I rlly dont get u ppl… It dosnt mather if its 5v3 or 2v1 its hot join only good for testing new things…. no one will lern how to play in team arenas in hot join… NO ONE!

Some maby want to play quick games without feeling the need to be hardcore but still want to be able to have a fun experience….
Heart of the Mists is where you test things and yes No one will learn how to play in team arenas in Hotjoin so why should I go play in Team Arenas when I don’t want to play like they play there?

Hotjoin

in PvP

‘Play Now’ is the best way for Hotjoin to find an ok game but…

I more or less only play hotjoin in PvP and there has (Not what I can remember) a whole match without leavers or people switching teams. Some people don’t even play for victory. About a week ago I was asking a group of players to not fight 1v1 matches outside of cap points and they told me they was R80 and was challanging people to 1vs1 with them and if I wanted to play real matches I had to do teamQ (This was not a custom arena it was the “Play Now” HotJoin).
There is so many ways for players to ruin the game for others in Hotjoin. I still like it but it could have been so much more fun if there was a way to stop people from Switching, Leaving, AFK’ing and Kill-hunting(Don’t care for team score just to kill).

I have quite a little online time in GW2 since a few weeks back but when I am online I do some exploring with my alts and also some PvP.

Why I don’t play as much now as before? Well I am waiting for S2, I have less time to spend on games and last but not least I got Disgaea D2 a few weeks back so I have been playing that now quite alot.

To Those Who Have Quit This Game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

EdgarMTanaka.7291

i have “quit” the game twice now, am i’m now back for the third time for just over a month now, and every time i come back, i love the game more than ever before!

my first main was a necro. she was my first character, and this was before i knew that gw2 endgame is a cute dress up collection game, so i made her a really wretched nasty looking sylvari…. so she is now deleted (LOL)

second main was an engi, and i still farm/pvp on that character a liiiiittle bit. still quite a bit of fun since engi is such an awesome class

but my new main, my mesmer, is where all my time and effort goes and all my enjoyment comes from! favorite class yet, and i’ve played them all enough to say, favorite class in the game!

so honestly, i would say if you’re getting even a little bit tired of the game, and don’t really feel like making a new character, quit now! then you can start getting excited about how much more you’ll like teh game when you come back!

^_^

So what if you have 6 lvl80’s.
two of which are mesmers?

So what if you have 8 lvl80’s.
One of each class?

Oh wait, I havent quit nor planning too :P
But everyone likes different things, Nolij’s thing worked for him/her and will maby work for others, maby they should try it if they havent. (If they realy wanna play GW2 anyway)

fair enough
tbh I love all my characters- I didn’t quit because I was bored

True, there are different reasons to why people quit too ofc
