Quite Dissapointing.
They need more DPS.
Twice confirmed.
Notice I made only a suggestion to how to fix the balancing issues. Rasudido also made good suggestions that probably can help more than mine. Try to keep on topic guys :P
I’m not on the test but I’ve been watching the streamings for 2.5 hours already and the main feeling that it gives to me is that a team has way too many people while the others don’t. Which is also a problem in the actual Live game.
It’s fun for the winning team but highly discouraging for the other 2, so they logged out. This is way too common on Edge of the Mist and sometimes also in the borderlands. So I suggest to find a system that can fix that balance issues, here’s a suggestion:
A dinamic cap.
Explaining
With that dinamic cap, you are balancing the people on each map with some few rules that don’t allow a map to have a lot more people than the other servers.
Feel free to change those numbers, tear down this suggestion or give any feedback. I am just tired how unbalancing breaks an awesome gamestyle, even at the stage of a stress test.

I wish I could go >.<
Will you show anything new or just what we already know?
Last week at Mai Trin lvl 50 there were 2 players constantly telling me warriors sucks and we can’t be as good as anyone else just because we are warriors, they also said I was even worst than anyone else because I was using longbow and that’s not Meta, so it’s not useful at all. The other 2 party members where from my guild so they couldn’t kick me (thankfully).
So Mai trin fight starts, I am using longbow (kudzu) + mace/sword (honestly I don’t like that weapons, I only use them for this fight in the entire game, to block the teleport) and at the first cannons phase 1 of those guys die. We rez him and continue DPSing Mai until 50% and then the same one dies again at cannons (twice in that phase becasue I used a war banner to rez him). Sortly after that Mai runs to the other player, he eats some damage + conditions not cleaned and gets killed by Horrik at melee (that combo made me giggle).
So with 2 of them dead and Mai at 50%, my guildies decides to commit suicide on purpose and tell me on TeamSpeak to solo her to teach them a lesson. It’s a lvl 50 Mai Trin and I have the wrong traits/weapons to solo, however I give it a try and in the meantime the 4 dead players are chatting. My friends keep repeating them stuff like “it’s true, warriors with longbow are useless, see how that arrow did inmobilized her in the purple area? totally useless indeed.” while the other players keep arguing because “if isn’t in the meta build, it’s for something”.
It wasn’t until Mai died that I did stop to read the chat and it was pretty fun how they were getting totally shut up by my friends commenting my actions (including when a lucky Blind from LB skill 4 saved me xD).
I wish I could had taken a screenshot of that glorious time, but well, just my 2cents. Hope you had fun reading.
Edit: Fixed some typos, my english is not Meta xD
(edited by Elrey.5472)
Answering this for a friend.
There were some random comments on chat calling GMs to kill people on stealth, but that isn’t possible, right? (would be hilarious though, lol)

Be careful, Lawton, we do know how watches end (If you follow GoT at least haha).
More or less, yes. The Consortium is still working on building the new Guild Initiative headquarters, though…
Looks built to me: http://prntscr.com/7lixy0 and http://prntscr.com/7liy6h
(A random mesmer ported me inside yesterday)
It applies condition damage when you apply fury. However, if you already have fury (from someone else) and you apply fury, the condition damage is not added, hence it’s a bug.
With the new Lion’s Arch, we got a cool place at Deverol Gardens. If you look far away, you can see some waterfalls, the lion’s arch buildings and a lot of cool structures in the distance.
I suggest to change the actual background to something like the attached picture.
Edit: Sadly it’s at night in my overflow map. I would like to get a daylight screenshot that really shows better.
I just hope Anet don’t nerf down the conditions too much, that would make soloing some small enemies imposible. Instead what’s needed is to buff up some world bosses
Edit: Actually it could be a good time to revamp most of them, since they’re a joke or you need to just stand in a claw and press 1 (looking at you, shatterer).
I usually do 4-5 jumping puzzles per day, but they are WAY too easy (obviously aiming for the causal public). I do like more the extreme jumping puzzles AKA exploring how to get out of the maps (22 and counting already xD).
I need a puzzle that can be failed easily. Not so secret was in the good direction, it’s just annoying that you die and need to WP back. Do a puzzle as hard as Not So Secret (well, if it’s harder even better) but removing the dying part (only losing progress if you fall) and I will be there daily.
If this works like the previous beta, that character slot will be removed before the next Beta starts. And then granted back if you get access to the next beta.
This is an unexpected nice mechanic. We had so many enemies at a point that positional awareness was something really needed, I liked that (10-15 fire lines at same time xD).
And even when we only had 1 enemy, well… we can just try to draw in the ground! As example: A triangle!
- The troll event near Laranthir at night (the one defending the vine) is broken.
Are you sure you mean at night?? I’ve only seen the defend the base camp and escort the soldiers there at night. The event (at the vine) at daytime is a bit troublesome. My map was extremely close in getting it down. It is one of those group events that require coordinated group play. I’ll try to explain how it works.
1: event happens at two sides of the vine. One is seprated from the vine by a broken bridge. the other is round the mortars.
2: The one at the other side of the broken bridge is reasonable easy. You need to protect Laranthir’s group so they shoot down the champion on top of the rock. As long as you got enough people there, the rest should take the detour to the other side of the bridge to the mortars.
3: at the mortars, keep in mind the rythm. Only a 6 people can actually fire the mortars. So have 6 people assigned to doing so (there are 6 mortars). When the window is open they pick up 1 mortar and walk to the one they are assigned to and fire it. The rest need to not touch the mortar supply (otherwise it drains too quick for the next round).
4: the supply is filled by pact-troups. Make sure to give them speed boosts. We started unorganised, found all of this out and where very close to finishing when the time ran out.
Totally sure as in Screenshot with bad quality because of potato computer
Now tell me Zenith how my group of 4 players without guardian or thief or elementalist made it to fractals level 50 1 by 1 (no cheating with the instabilities!) and still try to prove your point that a certain proffesion is needed.
The holy trinity is gone, what we have here is active defense, where anyone can protect himself from the hits. No need of a tank to get the hits nor a healer to heal them.
I did expect 500 enemies at night. I did found… 2
This time I commanded the Itzel events through most of the day cycle. We saved the village a couple times, fed starving villagers, put out firs (throw water bucket at red circle, repeat ad infinitum, ugh), hunted some beasties with their hunters (mobs upscaled hard here, but the hunters we had to defend didn’t, so that was fun), restored their faith in frogmanity, punished the enemy frogpriests, and brought a ton of wyvern eggs down from some high cliffs to stick in the enemy frogcamp. They were all pretty average, but the wyvern egg thing showed just how fun the glider system really is. It’s definitely the best addition to open world exploration we’ve had.
The wyvern did show up for us after placing the eggs at frogcamp. It was th best part with no doubts. Seems like some servers didn’t get to see him, though :\
Only tried warrior so far, but I had ALL weapons on inventory so I could choose which ones to use. My friend playing guardian had all weapons as well. I would believe that happened for all proffesions :\
That chain of events was pretty cool. Though our instance didn’t get any wyvern at the end. We planted the eggs, event completed, then nothing happened. Did you claim the outpost once the wyvern died? I was kind of bummed we didn’t get the outpost because the quest chain broke.
Maybe you failed the event at placing the eggs? We did get them done succesfully and then the wyvern landed without issues. After that we didn’t had to claim the outpost, it was automatically claimed.
Open inventory, you got all weapons.
This is my story: I was at one of the adventures (the one near the itzel outpost) trying to do it, but it told me that won’t be enabled until the outpost is activated. So I go to that outpost trying to find how to activate it and I find an npc with a weird icon on the head near the waypoint (the NPC has the outpost icon actually). I speak to him and it tells me a lot of stuff, but one of the questions that my character can make is “what’s going on?”. That was the beggining of the most awesome part of beta.
So I go back to the adventure and yes! I can play that one. Although I soon realize that I need to have masteries for most stuff in there and that discourages me. Then I think about that famous Anet words: The journey is the goal and I can’t stop laughing. The Itzel outpost chain events with my wise new friend and the wyvern… what a journey! This wasn’t a random NPC doing an event that I follow around, this one created a bound with me!
+1 to Anet for that one. Kudos! I hope the expansión have that level of awesomeness all around.

No idea about java, but in python 3.4.3 is quite simple to run scripts to access the API. Here’s an example that I use to get me information of items:
#Library needed from urllib import request #List of items to access TotalItems = [1,2,6,11,24] #Check full list of items at http://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items #Create local file if doesn't exists Createlocalfile = open("fromgw2api.txt", "a") Createlocalfile.close() #Main Function def Checkitems(): global TotalItems Total = str(len(TotalItems)) print("[START] - There's: "+Total+" items.") for i in TotalItems: #For each item in my list print("Saving the ID: "+str(i)+" from a total of "+Total+" items.") Respuesta = request.urlopen("http://api.guildwars2.com/v2/items /"+str(i)+"?lang=es").read() #Opens the item website and reads it #The next line is an spanish fix for some letters like áéíóúñ Respuesta = str(Respuesta)[2:-1].replace("\\xc3\\xb3", "ó").replace("\\xc3\\xad","í").replace("\\xc3\\xa1","á").replace("\\xc3\\xb1","ñ").replace("\\xc3\\xa9","é").replace("\\xc3\\xba","ú") #Then save the info that it did just read into the local file writing = open("fromgw2api.txt", 'a') writing.write(str(Respuesta)+"\n") writing.close() print("[END] - All items saved") #Run the script Checkitems()
Edit: That should give you a glimpse of how to start. You would end up with the items information in json structure. Using that information should be easy for you.

Topic.
Speaking of the spanish wiki, It would be great if we are able to create templates for the wiki and that template tracks down an item and adds all the information about it.
I’m not sure yet what approach to take on that yet, so any feedback or suggestions are as well wellcome.
Hello, ladies and gentlemen!
Today I’m here to show you PersonalStrats (click on that to see a video of the Beta version).
Note: Ignore my low fps. My computer is an old potato but it should run smoother in a good PC.
This APP project started back in 2012 for another MMO (Lotro), but now it comes to gw2!. The core features of this app are tools that might help people to complete dungeons without alt-tabbing or needing a 2nd screen, such as:
With enough feedback, this app will be expanded and will get new tools, features and guides. So far it’s in Beta status because I want to get feedback and build it in the way the players want.
I hope you like it :P

Is there any chance that you could provide update about the spanish tickets as well? I found often posts where they claim it’s been a while with no response from Anet.
There is no backlog of Spanish tickets; except for Guild Wars. If you have a GW2 ticket do let me know the number so I can find out why you’ve not heard back from us. =)
Check 1484755 then, please. Reported on the spanish forums: https://forum-es.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/mi-ticket-tiene-mas-de-7-dias

Please Anet
Aggro mechanics in GW2 are not random. There are no tanks to control aggro but it isn’t random. Aggro is determined by the following:
1. DPS
2. Range
3. Armor ratingSo if you are a warrior in melee with high dps he will almost always attack you. If you switch to range he will attack someone who is closer and doing similar dps.
I know, i’ve been playing gw2 for years and soloed most of the dungeons enough times to realize how aggro works.
However i’m also a programmer, and after reading that article about the Wi flag (which i don’t know if you did read) I can see how easily it could be to mess it up. I would probably make the same fail and I’m not sure if Anet would.
Even knowing how aggro works in gw2 (And that some bosses like Lupicus got 2 specific tanks, 1 for range and 1 for melee), it still feels weird with that specific champion in Silverwasters. I can’t be the one doing most damage for sure, sometimes I just afk autoattacking it and the boss stills keeps hitting me. That go me thinking that Wi Flag could actually be possible.
To clarify things up: I’m not saying it’s broken, i’m saying that it needs furthr investigation by Anet or let us check the code same as the PvP matchmaking algorithm.
Although it sounds far fetched, this has happened before in another game. Check out Asheron’s Call and the Wi bug.
http://asheron.wikia.com/wiki/Wi_Flag
Totally relevant because I did experienced this in many bosses of GW2. As example in the Husk champion of Silverwastes after the Vinewraith. If there’s 70 players killing that one but i’m the first one that goes and hits in my warrior and i’m always on melee, he keeps attacking me all the time. If I step back for 1 meter, then he attacks someone else. That’s ok, is not a problem, the question I ask myself is why if there is always 70 different players, he attacks specifically me? It doesn’t seems random at all.
Edit: I also tried not being first, and the boss takes a while to start attacking me, but once he starts, he never stops unless I move out.
Edit 2: For replicate porpuses: Warrior Female 12k AP, Twilight and Kudzu, Rampager’s armour and Berserker jewelry
I’m just telling that example because as I understood the Wi Flag just a couple of minutes ago, I feel that kind of code might be already in GW2 with some enemies, and who knows if RNG works under the same cirkittenances. Now I need an Anet answer on that.
(edited by Elrey.5472)
Semi-RNG would be always the best:
With that kind of algorithm, nothing would had to be repeated more than 100 times for an specific loot. I’m not saying that it’s perfect and I made up the %, but you get the idea of how RNG can still reward played time.
The pvp algorithm is public: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Matchmaking_Algorithm , I don’t know why the Loot one isn’t. If it’s really RNG and doesn’t include special factors, being it public shouldn’t be a problem.
Let’s be honest here, almost nobody gets something good out of mobs. Of course there is exceptions and some people get precursors, but in the most part Magic find is a waste because the loot is not affected by magic find.
That’s what most people thinks nowadays, and even if that is not true (because obviously magic find indeed help us to get a little better loot), that’s what we think. We only cap magic find as it was another achievement, not because we know in our hearts that we will get something better. We will still get crap out of most of our loot.
But what if we problem that we face is not statistical, but it’s psichological? Leave behind the statistics for a seconds and what happens is a simple fact of discouraging due to the fact that magic find doesn’t affect Chests or Bags.
Most people farming aren’t just killing enemies, their focus is entirely on getting bags, getting chests or something simillar. I understand that how it works now it’s by design to make everyone have the same chances, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a good design.
So here’s my suggestion: Update magic find to affect chests and bags.
Cons
Pros
Any feedback is welcome, and i might add more cons or pros in the future depending on the posts of this thread.
(edited by Elrey.5472)
Chris, from a programmer point of view, wouldn’t be easier to wipe out the HoM rewards from all players instead of tracking down which ones need to be edited? All you would need to do after wiping everyone’s HoM data is to create a script that re-calculate the information.
Something like:
Not sure if it’s worth mentioning to the programmers team, i’m just trying to help.
Edit: I’m stupid, I missed the part where you say: We don’t have the tools to easily mass remove achievements/titles, which means it’s something that has to be developed.
(edited by Elrey.5472)
Example
That’s why it doesn’t need to be longer than 3 seconds. It’s not suppose to be used to tank something, it’s just another effect that can be used against the enemies and it’s up to us to find kitteneful way to use it (like i did with that example)
If it will take so much time, i’d appreciate if you take a little bit more time and update the inventory a little bit with Quality of Life changes while fixing the resize.
Example: Equipping a 2handed weapon while having 2 1handed weapons puts 1 of the 1handed in the correct bag but the other one not.
Ideal Fix: The game should had stored the ID number of an specific inventory slot where it was the last time, and if it’s empty, put it there. If that slot is not empty, then put it in the same bag as the weapon where the 2handed was, and if both of those can’t be done, then ok, put it randomly in the inventory.
Note: If servers are having a hard time to save more variables or settings for millions of players, then i guess a lot of those things could be easily done if they were locally saved. Other MMOs like Lotro have a Local file with the our personal settings. If we want to try the game in a different computer and not lose our settings, we can just copy/paste that file. But due to that, I guess their servers don’t need to deal with all that information, which It’ll be an improvement in GW2 as well (the servers handling that wouldn’t need to send information to the client, so you can use that servers for something else). And we could change our settings without getting into the game (just in casy one of the settings actually broke our game, as happened before with post-proccesing effects).
(edited by Elrey.5472)
I believe asuran hydro-engineers are currently investigating this issue. Something having to do with the migration pattern of the Mystic salmon (which makes its way up the fabric of reality each year, as you probably know).
Thankfully, as you’ve seen, despite its invisibility, the water supply still exists, so there’s no risk of drought. For now.
Off-topic, but I can’t help it: I did read you with the voice of Samuel L. Jackson, lol.
does anet use python ?
Seems like, but I don’t think it’s used for most stuff. It’s just as good for some random scripts like the ones for matchmaking. I’m happy with that though, python is a great language (I still use it to build up random stuff).
I’m not going to argue technical trade-offs in a thread like this. We fixed a bug in our game scheduler and as a result we’ve found another bug in WvW that was previously hidden. It’s as simple as that.
Ignore the trolls who are trying to tell you what’s wrong with out having ever seen the code or equipment. The rest of us appreciate your efforts, greatly
This. The forum is a dangerous place, but you are doing great Stephen. Telling the players what monster there is inside is better than leaving us alone in the dark. Even if some people are scared of that monster, most of us will have a chance to prepare ourself. (I hope my analogy is understood, I just watched a terror movie xD).
Also in phase 2 when he casts those 500 bolts I used to stay at melee with my d/f ele to cast the 4 from air. It was tricky because you had to do it really fast, but now I tried and it’s almost impossible to do it in time, the first bolts seems to hit the ground really fast. (Managed to do it in time twice but it was just me guessing if the boss would do that skill and casting it randomly 1 second before lupi animation)
I wouldn’t think it would be a problem for friends, as they could just send you the money in 2 “payments”, one each week. If you already trust them enough to sell them a precursor in such a way, trusting them to make multiple payments shouldn’t be too much of a stretch.
I mean, sure, you have to wait two weeks to get all the gold, but I kind of doubt you’re so in need of 500 gold that you absolutely NEED it immediately.
The problem comes when that is only an specific trade, and you have the entire week to do more trades.
Actually, this might affect me even more than I though earlier. You can check my in-game historial right now to find an interesting log. Since i got more than 1000Gold and a really friendly guild (we know each other on real life), I usually give money to my guildies when they need it (as example to buy the black wings) and they return it to me on the next weeks.
In the past months I gifted 1250g for a precursor to a friend that I met on real life 1 month ago. Then later I gave 750g to another friend for a different precursor, 510g to a different one, 100g to another one, 100g to another one and 60g to another one. At this moment, all of them did return my money back (except 95g) and they did get their shiny item when they didn’t had enough money for it.
It was totally ok for me. If a close friend ask me for 700g to return it in 1 month, I would give the money to him without doubt, but now I won’t be able.
You see my point, right? I’m not selling gold, but this new “rule” will annoy the hell out of me. (Trying to give some criticism feedback).
(edited by Elrey.5472)
I sold a precursor for 900g months ago to a friend. Since he’s a friend i knew he wouldnt scam me. It was done in a couple of minutes and it was perfect because it was totally intuitive. On top of that, I did get 100g more than if I would use the TP to sell it and he did get the precursor for 50g less than if he used the TP to buy that (that’s how much the fee takes).
So… what happens if I get another precursor, now I can’t trade with my friend just because someone else is stealing gold?
Another question: If the reset for week is xx:00, would be possible to send 500g at xx:59 and then send another 500g at xx:01 after the reset?
(edited by Elrey.5472)
Why do you say that breaking the map could be an issue? You can actually break out of 23 maps of GW2 already, without gliding xD
We don’t know anything yet but (as a fan) I can pretty much say no to the last one.
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Elrey.5472
I agree. Perhaps auto gliding instead of having to press a key to do it. I highly doubt anybody will just fall to their deaths.
One issue I noticed is that when I pressed the key to glide it took a second to actually start and at other times it took a cpl presses in order for it to take.
Yeah, it’s really confusing at the moment.
In my personal experience: Sometimes, due to lag and other issues my key wasn’t recognised and I had to press again the key desperately to not die just because of the lag. This suggestion should fix that.
The masteries UI is not intuitive. Everyone would expect them beneath the traits menu. That was annoying and most of the friends I spoke with were having big issues to set up the glyding mastery.
Edit: And the fact that you can’t close masteries window with ‘esc’ was a facepalm.
