My rule of thumb is to always carry a ranged weapon and a melee weapon. Swap to whatever is needed for the situation at hand. You can’t predict what PUGs are going to do, so the best solution is to make yourself as versatile as possible.
This is what i do on my warrior. Bow + Greatsword.
And to the opener, just don’t join full zerker or dps groups, they want to maximize damage and to do that you need to be in melee range. There’s also several groups (like mine) that loves the fights mechanics so much that we never stack and we are often at range or randomly meleeing whenever we want. No time pressure of “kill it before he does X skill”. We actually let enemies do their special skills more than 50 times in a fight, we just have that under control so nobody dies and even if someone dies we got a laugh and keep improving :P
Would it hurt to share some of the info? And here i’m thinking in dumb funny info just because i’m in the mood of having a laugh with the data.
As examples:
How many players sold a legendary at a really cheap price by misstake? (150 gold instead of 1500 or something like that).
How many players destroyed precursors because they don’t know what they are?
How many times someone bough the same unique item because of lag or another reason?
You know, that kind of data that makes you smile in the morning ^^. I guess there is better ones but i’m sleepy at the moment.
I feel awkward about that wolf. Of course i got ascended gear and legendaries, but i kinda face-tanked it and killed without issues O,o took me just a bit but he didn’t hit hard at all.
Unless of course you don’t read about enemies skills, which appear under his name and says what are his special abbilities (this wolf is deadly from the flanks). I was so afraid to get flanked that i tried on purpose to face-tank it and… piece of cake :P
Until you faceplant eating a 16k chaos storm tick.
That’s what Defiant stance is for
i am back doing daily aetherpaths at random times. If you feel free, join me.
Btw, nobody is doing it in EU? i see a lot of groups daily, this screnshots is from 2 days ago completely random. http://prntscr.com/44ake3 That says it all, there is Aether groups every hour now.
Random question here, i’m the only one that loves 30 minutes of fight instead of just nuke dps the bosses? because that’s why my list gets different from others. On long fights the strats needs to be different, even harder than solo if you go with newbies and they have no idea of what to dodge and you need to waste 70% of the time rezzing (rezzing in the thaumanova anomaly is tricky but fun. And it was also when Alphard insta-1shots with her barrils bug xD). I’m the kind of guy that even if i can solo a boss, i won’t unless everyone is alive.
I will check that illusionist, sounds like fun Where does he appears exactly?
(edited by Elrey.5472)
Hardest (until i learnt how to solo them):
1: Lupicus.
2: Clockheart.
3: Mai Trin.
4: Foreman Spur.
5: Kholer.
Hardest now after I learnt how to kill them:
1: Legendary shaman grawl.
2: Rampaging Ice Elemental.
3: Alphard.
4: Thaumanova Anomaly
5: The 3 golems in SoE path 1.
Notice i don’t use stack places, fgs or any other faceroll strategies, i love old school fights and often goes with pugs or newbies.
Lot of people waste exotics and lot of items in the forge and no success. And then i go and i throw 2 yellow daggers, a helm and a shield… and Dusk (twilight precursor) drop.
xDD sorry but i can’t just stop laughing about how lucky i was (february, btw, while farming Scarlet Holograms)
Mystic forge is a matter of luck, but there’s a lot of things that you can control, like… only trying with items that drop, not spending money on that. That way you always save money and if no luck… at least you got your money!
someone fancy ellen… keeps singing
I’m not a zerker warrior, however i did all the achievements Solo. It took me a few tries, the ones in fort salma to protect the minions i had to reset the instance and repeat it like 6 times. The ones of saving all refugees in the other Fort i had to do it like 10 times just because i never knew where they are.
However, without a guide, all done in 1 day… and i like it.
It’s not like Liadri, which took me 2 days, but it’s really Refreshing stuff for me, which is not just DPS.
So… stop complaining, Anet is going the Right Direction, and that’s more than they ever did in season 1.
The marionette.

i love thaumanova, and mai trin is soloable at lvl 50 with warrior (yes, after patch). However i hate the one with the draga and the ice elemental at the end.
If i understood it right, the group would be able to choose some fractals, that’s a Bad idea, since it could be used to choose the easier or faster ones and exploit a faceroll mode.
A better suggestion imo would be to BAN a fractal, but in that case you get two on the first rotation fractals. Right now is something like:
1 – Aquatic Ruins, Swampland, Urban Battlegrounds, Uncategorized.
2 – Uncategorized, Snowblind, Urban Battlegrounds, Molten Furnace, Cliffside.
3 – Aetherblade, Volcanic, Thaumanova Reactor, Underground Facility, Cliffside.
4 – Solid Ocean Fractal, Molten Boss Fractal or Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal.
But with that suggestion you would get.
1 – Aquatic Ruins, Swampland, Urban Battlegrounds, Uncategorized.
2 – Aquatic Ruins, Swampland, Urban Battlegrounds, Uncategorized.
3 – Uncategorized, Snowblind, Urban Battlegrounds, Molten Furnace, Cliffside.
4 – Aetherblade, Volcanic, Thaumanova Reactor, Underground Facility, Cliffside.
5 – Solid Ocean Fractal, Molten Boss Fractal or Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal.
Yes, 5 fractals instead of 4 but you could Ban a kittene like mai trin or the one you like… at a price. What do you think?
(edited by Elrey.5472)
Oozes part is done in first try and 30 seconds if you do the “Not defending oozes” strategy. This strat is based in NOT using specific proffesions, since you don’t need guards or warriors or mesmers or anything specific to achieve this fast.
How to? With 4 players.
1: Two players join room (one for each side) and 2 other players stay outside.
2: The first two players aggro all elementals in their side AND also ooze, but then they attack nothing and let ooze dies.
3: As soon as ooze dies, they RUN to the end of their path, to the wall exactly. The 3 elementals will follow them and they can now just tank them away from ooze (you got a small 10 seconds window before a new ooze respawn to do this)
4: The other 2 players now join the room, they move an ooze each one safely ^^.
5: The first players kill elementals before the oozes reachs them, sometimes you will want to keep elementals alive until ooze is half-way done, otherwise they would respawn too soon. Nevertheless, if they respawn, ozzes are more than 50% way done so it’s almost impossible to mess it up.
Result? oozes get 0 damage, oozes don’t need defense, oozes are never hit… and you do it in 30 seconds.

Roleplay as the bad guy. The bad guys are always getting problems, however they ignore/get over it and try to break things more often. Since you would be trying to break the fabric of reality, bugs/glitches would help you instead of annoy you.
So that’s the challenge… can you dark your own mind?
Let’s do a storm of tips and then someone list them (for fun and to help players).
-You can hide behind pets/minions/npcs to block projectiles going after you, they will eat the shot and say “yummy”! (such as mai trin teleport)
I’m sorry this happened to you. Right now my guild group we are always 4 players. Always doing dungeons, always playing fractals… we often invite 1 more to leech from us or help us, and we never kick.
With this statement i just want to say: there is bad people and there is good people. You just had bad luck.
Bad people is bad people. You can find them in “casual runs” or “elitist runs”. You can’t put every casual or every elitist in the same bad attitude section. Sometimes you’ll find awesome players (like the hunter that you said) and sometimes bad people (like that 2 guys from the guild).
sorry that it happened, but keep trying and you’ll find some good peeps. Most of my friends are from pugs, i remember them at 1k AP casual runs and now they got 5k AP and i play with them often or almost daily. There’s great people around.
i just dodge. Since the only possible attack that i cancel on warrior is rez banner.
I also think it’l be lvl 80, as for anyone who isn’t 80 yet, they might be upscaled like when the tower of nightmares was released in kessex hills or something (the story instance upscaled you to 80 and if i remember correctly, the tower itself, too)
A friend and me managed to get inside that fort and tried to hit them. We are underleveled there so we died in a gun shot. Next time we did bring reflect wall from guardians, they did reflect some hits but not even a 0,00001% health was done. All those lvl 80 are champions also and i guess we can’t kill them.
However, we found something in the fort… it was completely empty, towers and rooms, they had no furniture or even tables… but there was this: http://prntscr.com/3y0d33
Going across it does nothing, it’s just an animation, however it’s something that you can’t see from any part of brisban unless you specifically sneak into that fortress. So… my guess? we’ll use that portal.
thought so
last boss in aether path solo-able, well i guess that proves it, it needs to be made more powerful
Same as lupicus. They share a hard learning process, but once you learnt how to dodge or avoid every single attack, they are just easy.
However, both will be hard for newbies. Let’s say a boss being easy it’s just your reward because you finally learnt how to kill it. As i said before this happens also in Liadri, and if you don’t have a problem with her, u shouldn’t either with clockheart.
Thats true but i am not sure that works for the guardian class. I managed to kill her once (toughness/power build, greatsword) and killing her a second time with the same character is still a great challenge although i know how it works. well anyways would you consider clockwork being able to kill it solo if there werent any electric floors?
uhm? i soloed clockheart like 30 times. The electricity only appears on each tier 30, which can be easily stopped if you just kill a hologram near the boss and the explosion hit him while it’s tiering up. If you miss that by chance you will get a 25% of the room electrified (minimap counter clockwise), and that electricity can be easily removed if you just nuke an hologram near bosss even if he’s not tiering up.
Soloing clockheart is easy, and extremely fun ranged with a low character, took me 20 minutes once just for the fun i was having, i didn’t kill it fast xD
it shares the same learning curvature as liadri. Once learned properly, you can kill liadri 100 times in a row with little effort. However, killing her for the first time might take you 50 or more tries.
Clockheart shares that. Once learned it becomes easy, until that it can be a nightmare.
In PvE I inmobilize so much that i couldn’t play without it. Examples of useful scenarios.
1: You got an enemy either ranged or melee that will kill you and you are about to die in the next hit. Then inmobilize and hide behind a column. Hiding will force the enemy to find Line of Sight, but due to the immobilization you will get some extra precious seconds where it won’t hit you (and you might recover or heal in that time).
2: An enemy with a hammer (you know it sucks) is in a pull of enemies. While the group smash them you can just inmobilize the hammer guy and win some times to kill the other enemies in the meanwhile, because when it gets to you, you’ll have a hard time.
3: When you need an enemy in an specific position, as example big Bosses of dungeons that needs to stay inside of an area (Mai Trin). You can just inmobilize while inside to prevent it to exit.
4: It’s also useful to Rez people if you are the last guy standing and there’s a boss trying to kill you. Immobilize and get some times to rez.
I use it in my warrior and those 4 seconds are just really useful for me.
Stacking seems like such a boring way to complete dungeons. It is effective but it is just so dang boring. I play the game to have fun and imo, stacking is not fun.
I don’t understand this argument. I need more info pls.
Because honestly… whether stacking itself is fun or not to you really isn’t the issue… is range kiting a boss fun? I find stacking more fun than that.
Must be personal opinions I guess.
It’s indeed your personal opinion. I find stacking boring as hell, and i like kiting a fight, making me run into different positions, being careful of positional awareness to dodge areas, gears, other enemies or trapts. What i like about not stacking is that it’s Harder because often you gotta deal with no boons or heals or nothing, just by yourself and it takes more time to beat down enemies, and by increasing that 2 factors, it increases my pride when i finally beat down an enemy. That’s what makes fun of not stacking.
Remove me from the list of teachers… i can’t do it anymore.
I got the title, i got the meta… i got no rewards… just making sure i’m not forgotten, should i ask for a Ticket for customer or just wait?
I did it with 8 orbs and a quaggan tactic on my necro. Didn’t tried past that.
But for Liadri you cannot make a mistake, it has to be perfect and that is the issue.
More or less, though sometimes it’s not down to you. My only problem with the Liadri fight are the orbs. 70% of my fails tend to be due to an orb spawning and pulling me just as her one-shot blackness descends. (the remaining 30% tend to be lack of dodges after she starts spamming her cripple!) So you do need to be perfect, but there’s still some luck involved when it comes to Orb spawn.
Orbs spawn each 20 seconds, they take 2-3 seconds to drag you. Just carefully stop animations at second 18 and have a fast ranged skill ready by the time orb spawn to nuke it.
If luck is involved is only in the positioning of the orbs, but that wouldn’t be an issue as long as you are ready for it.
I guess it’s my turn. ALL the achievements completed… and all of them with the same character and weapons.
Warrior, Condition build, bow and greatsword ^^.
I have done the 8 orbs one. Took me 3 days and 90 tickets.
Let’s face it, she’s hard, but that’s GOOD in so many ways that makes this thread useless. The game needs challenging content that keeps you improving slowly, trying every different build that you can try to find the best combo for this specific enemy. For god shake, i learnt how to efficiently blind enemies in this fight, something that was never “really” useful in other places of the game or i never needed to use.
And that’s good! it fights the lazyness of getting used to an easy playstyle in pve or zergs.
The 8 orbs one is easy as a warrior with a bow. I did it with Defiant stance, endure pain, any banner for regeneration, signet of Stamina and signet of Rage.
Traits were 0/4/4/6/0
I used Tactics traits 4, 10 and 11. Arms traits 2 and 3.
Defense traits 2 and specially 9 are a MUST for that fight, i had to get used for it but it’s worth since you can uncripple yourself all the time, and if you can’t, then signet of Stamina (i choose that one over Shake it off because of the passive bonus to being able to dodge por often).
Random tips
- Whenever 2 clones go to a white circle, just wait until the first one becomes a light, then shot the second one with the skill 4 of the bow and just walk to get the light and throw it to Liadri. The clone will explode on your face but due to blindness, you won’t get hit ^^
- If you need heal, just get inside one of the big orange areas and use defiant stance. It’s the best heal for this fight by far, since you can also use it in case you are out of dodges.

Yup.

MOAR 100blades skills!
It sounds like a Lag problem, can you check your latency?
You could also try to find an overflow empty with no players (a few hours ago i was in an overflow just my girlfriend, some friends and me, nobody else around). In that situation your performance might improve because there won’t be a zerg around that your game would need to load.
I just finished liadri with achievement of 8 orbs (+50 tickets) and she NEVER do +30k hits.
- Her only attack in phase 1 is a ranged autoattack simillar to necromancers one.
- The chaotic orbs that pulls you away got 1health, just hit it with anything in the first 5 seconds before it hits you.
- The shadows are tricky but you can remove them from the fight with some tricky movements. As example, you can Blind a shadow and then just let it explode on you, the Blind condition will make it doesn’t affect you, however it’ll dissapear.
- In phase 2, she can cripple you, but the cripples can be either 4 seconds or 60 seconds, always pay attention for that and use a condition cleaner just for the long ones.
I personally got her down just hitting conditions and running around instead of fighting facing her. Good luck.
Attacking only with 11111 is a BIG problem of the game, however there’s some fights where, as u already said, you can’t do anything else. A few hours ago i completed the Subject 7 achievement in the Solo arenas (the one not killing any ooze) and i had to do it with autoattack, at maxium range with my bow and just moving left and right fast enough to make all enemy attacks miss.
I couldn’t risk to use the other skills because they would hit more enemies instead of just 1, so… 11111.
That strat is cool, it’s ok, it works… but it also sets the difficuly level in a really awkward place. If people gets used to not use the other skills once the situation is needed, they won’t be able to even reach Liadri (or kill it). And that would easily make people rage instead of improve.
With collisions turned on, 1 player could block any jumping puzzle of the game.
I don’t support that, however i do support all the enemies collisions enabled. Because you always have a way to push/kill/move it away, and it would work fine since zergs could still hit the same enemy but it would be trickier.
It’s ok everyone, I’m here.
What does the Fox say?
Anywway… i think the problem Anet is facing is that they are way too much scared of leaked info or spoilers. Sometimes, the players we just need to know that something is happening, what it’s it doesn’t matter. You could say “this week i’ve done a test for an animation of a new possible legendary” and the next day say “we got a group coding a new building for WvsW” and then later on “remember that legendary? it won’t work, the design has been cancelled and we removed it”.
Those are just examples that, even if it could make us guess a lot of probably wrong assumptions, it would also help us to understand what it’s going on. Not knowing if you guys are on summer holidays or still worried about the game, or ignoring us and focus on the chinese population or… well, not knowing that happens? it’s the worst nightmare of a player.
Call me crazy, but I do believe some info about the next update, even if it’s just “hey, we’ll give you a potato in 4 weeks” would calm down the people impatience… such is the gw2 community hunger.
While we’d love to give you a time and date of when we’re sending out the potato, remember that during the development process we may discover that a baked potato would be even better. So instead of getting the potato of your dreams you end up with something completely unexpected.
It often happens that a mashed potato with gravy is even better still, unfortunately gravy requires more dev time. So we end up shipping a mashed potato without gravy to meet our promise of ship time or we push back the time and date of when we are shipping again and again. You get your mashed potato with gravy but it is delivered much later than it was expected.
Worst of all that is when we realize that potatoes are way too mainstream and that yams are where it’s at now. And I think we all know how reactions seem to go when we ship yams instead of potatoes.
So in a lot of cases the best we can do is tell you that we are still in the kitchen cooking things up, we’re reading your feedback, and that we’re excited to get the meal out to you soon™.
This, Sir, is epic. I did completely understand what you mean, but it was also epic fun to read it. Nevertheless, the announcement of the four winds festival is exactly what i asked for and it really makes me happy. We got our potatoe, even if we don’t know how it’ll be.
Mixed emotions here.
Call me crazy, but I do believe some info about the next update, even if it’s just “hey, we’ll give you a potato in 4 weeks” would calm down the people impatience… such is the gw2 community hunger.
I found these guys the other day in aetherpath. Worth a screenshot, sadly i always run in very low graphics.
ow btw…about throwing in rares/exotics…
Could it be true that throwing in “named” exotics raises the odds for getting a precursor ?
I noticed that when I throw in “normal” ones, I get mostly normals in return..but when I use named ones, I get back more named ones
Anyone else noticed this?
I did got twilight pre-cursos throwing 4 yellows: 2 were daggers, 1 medium helmet and heavy boots.
RNG is RNG
It might be a matter of over-heating. Your graphics card or processor temperature will go up for every image to load, that includes characters, maps, walls, etc. In some cases where massive graphics are in the screen (like a zerg or a big town), your system might not be able to move a game this big, then it tried to work harder, it gets over-heated and eventually it can’t and just stop working.
Warning alert: too much heat can break your laptop. Make sure you play on very low graphics on that one and find a way to measure your computer’s temperature.
(Aida64 is a good program for that, but it’s not free).
stacking cheaters
i mean… ehm, bah, nevermind.
Very interesting question… i’d love to know as well.
It’s GW2 already launched in China? And if that’s the case, can they upload walkthroughs to youtube or any other website? i’d love to see how it’s GW2 there even if i don’t understand anything xD
Soloed Lupicus…
Soloed Clockheart…
Soloed most of the marionette champs once inside final room (II, III, IV)
Completed the Not so secret puzzle in 9 minutes (from WP to chest).
And… I tested my first legendary (twilight) killing an orrian chicken!!! (Oh the memories… i will never forget that one xD)
(edited by Elrey.5472)
Did it yesterday, loved it.
Finally some enemies that feal like having some AI and normal skills doing condi damage and using boons.
Good mechanics and the puzzles are ok. We do not need more CoF p1 people, there are already enough of them!
i wish more people would think that way.
support… roles… resistances…. ok, seems like you come from another MMO. Then please take in notice this next sentences:
“In other MMOs you are suppose to get damage and then outheal it to survive, that’s ok, that’s possible. In GW2 you are NOT suppose to get damage in the first time. You are suppose to get track of the enemy animations (either easiest or hardest dungeons) and then just dodge it.”
I know it will take some time for you to adapt, but that’s how it works. I also hate stacking, skipping and not a “fun/challenging” fight. But eventually you will find a good group and learn how to play together better.
Now i’m happy to say that my group (started 2 months ago to play with them) has done every dungeon paths without stacking in a single corner or skipping some enemies. We wiped a few times, but also learnt how to do every fight in a proper way, and nothing is impossible.
Your group was just bad, sadly your problem it’s that you think that getting right proffesions will work wonders, but if they don’t know how to play their proffesions (or worst, if they are zerkers that die in a second) you will find yourself with no help from your said group.
I hope you have better experiences sometimes. Here in GW2… levels means nothing, AP means nothing, proffesions means nothing, all that matters is player skill.
You could speak with him…
This was meant to be a reply to the above post, but got messed up due to post size and a forum bug not showing all the text. Regardless…
So the ooze puzzle…
yeah, they spawn near ooze and try to kill it… ok, then LET them kill it ^^ ooze dead? cool, now all elementals will follow you like sheeps, just move them to the end door, where they can’t hit the oozes
The electric tiles…
It takes no more than 1 minute if everything goes right, and if not, you can’t die in that room, you are insta-rezzed in a platform, and the mechanisms are easy anyway.
Impossible to die to the Clockheart? Lies. Care to explain how one deals with the bit where the entire floor goes electric on you, then you jump on to the small raised platforms, only for the boss to drop gears on said platforms, which cover the entire platform, meaning your options are to stand there and die, or drop off to the floor, and die?
And don’t get me started on that stupid armor gimmick. If you get a ranged Aether-holo, it is such a pain to lure it to the boss and finally kill it to try and break that stupid invulnerability gimmick.
This is what really made me notice how bad you were at noticing stuff while fighting. Caithe clearly calls to “find a way to stop his shield”. Well, good news for you, an explosion of an hologram not only removes the invulnerability shield of Clockheart, it also prevent/clean up all the electricity around Actually the room only got 25% electrified if you let clockheart gets to tier 30.
About moving the ranged holo to clockheart, that is quite obvious to deal with. Clockheart goes melee, the holo is ranged, ok, move the boss to the hologram instead of the hologram to the boss. And you know what? the boss is invulnerable anyway! so nobody should Dpsing, everyone should just focus on moving boss when buffed. ^^ Do it right and you won’t die.
For more detalied info of everything that happens in Aetherpath, including all bosses major skills and how they work, just take a look to the guide i posted last year and still works https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Guide-for-TA-Aether/first
uhm really nice video…
about aetherpath, my personal record with some casual guildies was 32 minutes, but i guess it can be improved a lot. We didn’t want to set up a record or do it fast, but it happened that we literally did no misstakes or even got downed, not even in clockheart <3, however we killed the 3 invisible pulls after oozes 1 by 1 and also aggroed the machine. It has been proved that you can do it without agroing it and also all 3 pulls at same time in the rock near entrance, with the new phalanx warrior trait you could nuke them even without guardians or elementalists xD
Arg i hate you guys, now i want to try that one out! ¬¬
