I would really love an option to “Holster or Sheathe” the offhand weapon to unlock an additional #3, 4 and 5 weapon skill from the one-handed main hand weapon (while still retaining the attribute bonuses of the offhand).

This would be like a mini-weapon swap giving access to 8 weapon skills per weapon set, 5 weapon skills for the main hand when the offhand is holstered or sheathed and two or three additional weapon skills (Three for thief) granted from the offhand when it is drawn.

It would be really nice have an option to not dual wield all the time.

Dual professions? Yes please.
Skills that worked well together, not just “Combo Fields”? Yes please.
First 5 skills whatever I like not tied to the weapon I wield? Yes please.
8 skills to choose whatever I want, not 1 designated heal? Yes please.
Traits that REALLY impact skills? Yes please..

Before new classes get introduced, they should balance the existing classes first in a right way and then work on new skills and traits for them to create more build diversity. New classes can wait for at least 2-3 more years for me.

Many people want strange classes, but don’t expect them to be made just because you personally want it so much ^^ I personally wouldn’t like to see something like a bard

Balance is a myth. It will never happen, never has happened and never will happen in an MMORPG.

The deep issue with thief stealth, assassins… the rogue archetype is: people want a fair fight.

I’d delve even further and say that the deeper issue is that people want to win. Some people, instead of looking to improve themselves, find excuses for losing aka “I’m not bad, X Mechanic is OP”.

You can take away stealth and mobility when Thieves get 18k Base health, full access to stability, convert conditions to boons, protection, aegis, higher than 900 range…

My ranger can get stealth at 1500 range every 9.5 seconds with no precast. The only stealth a thief gets with no pre-cast is blinding powder. How’s that balanced?

This is a scenario from a personal experience between myself and my social circle:

  • Guild Wars 2 between Launch and 2012-2013 break.
    • All of my friends that left GW2 a year ago left because they didn’t feel GW2 had a good sense of progression.
    • I kept playing because I was happy, I had several exotic sets for each build and had endless replayable content with WvW.
  • GW2 introduces vertical progression:
    • My friends aren’t coming back (They are happily playing FFXIV)
    • I’m leaving on 4-4-14 (Waiting for ESO) and no longer spending $$ on this title.

I’m sure people will still be playing GW2 but from my experience they are harming their game and they are not going to get these players back, not only that they are pushing players like me out the door

Super Gear Grind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Elthurien.8356

Elthurien.8356

Wow wasn’t grindy at all. It just had a faster power creep on the vertical progression. All you needed to reach the top in wow was organisation.

Guild Wars 2 is almost polar opposite the power creep from fine>masterwork>rare>exotic>ascended still exists but the curve is flatter between exotic and ascended. The difference between exotic and as ended may be flatter but it is still there and people that understand balance know that it is still required for to place them on even footing so that skill is the only defining factor between opponents.
The power curve is flatter than wow but the grind is much longer. it requires you to commit all of your in game time to farming specific areas of the game, from daily achievments to gather your laurels, to low level areas to gather the thousand of scraps of cloth, leather and ore, then to play specific portions of the game to get the as ended components. The majority of this is a solo personal and lonely experience. I couldn’t imagine how long it would take for new players to achieve this, I got to 500 in 3 crafts fairly quickly because I had 2000 hours worth of materials stored up.

To say that wow is grindier than GW2 is so wrong. I have played nearly every MMO on the western market since SWG and GW2 is currently the most grind I have ever experienced purely because of ascended gear.

900 range is doable, especially if the rangers short bow is limited to 900 range. They might start complaining otherwise. But seriously with 900 range and some specific traits, short bow thieves could be REALLY fun!

I would laugh so hard if a ranger complained about us getting decent range on the shortbow, considering they now get an instant stealth attack on a 10-12s cooldown at 1200-1500 range on longbow. They cry so hard but their profession is so faceroll it’s embarrassing.

Thieves only get one stealth that doesn’t have a tell and it’s on a 60 second and yet rangers can do it, with their most powerful ranged weapon at maximum range. I’m not complaining about this mind you, just pointing out that they don’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to us getting a bit more range.

Supply and Demand to a degree, a variety of factors outside of this keep the price artificially high.

As for gem inflation plan, unlikely that the market will turn south. It is in Anet’s best financial interest to increase the Gem to Gold ratio as that will take more money away from gold sellers. Outside of very large bulk purchases ($100+), the Gem to Gold Ratio is getting very close matching gold sellers. Why spend $10 on site A and risk getting banned when you get almost the same amount from Anet directly?

Good. If people are willing to buy Gems to convert to Gold to buy legendaries, we should cater to them since it’s a win-win-win: Anet makes real $, gem/gold ratio decreases for people like me who spend gold to buy gems, and the transaction of the Legendary will sink gold out of the economy.

I have bought quite a lot of gems in the past and converted to gold but never, ever would I have even considered buying a legendary with that gold. In fact, I bought my precursor for 30g and still took nearly 12 months to craft it. Buying a legendary purely from RMT-Gem-gold would cost around the $400-500 mark, that’s a months worth of groceries for a small family in my country. I’m not saying that people don’t do this, but either they have plenty of money to throw around or they are living off bread and water.

in WvW

Posted by: Elthurien.8356

Elthurien.8356

You can’t get the rewards anyways, but there still shouldn’t be transfers during leagues because of the potential for imbalance.

We all know of a certain server that ruined an already balanced leagues with their buying of a certain guild, let’s not let that happen in S2.

This is the kind of behavior that I have been complaining about on these forums. I swear T1 servers live in a bubble, and think that they are God’s gift to WvW.

“potential for imbalance”

There was a lot of imbalance way before leagues even started, in the “lower class of servers.” Guess we all can’t be as good as the balanced 3 at the top. The reality is, your server, and the other 3 that live in the bubble, have gone out and recruiting guilds to your servers. This had lead to even greater imbalances across WvW.

And you have the audacity to act like a victim.

It’s only a select few jawbones in Tier one doing all the flapping. The rest of us know full well it’s just a coverage game. I’ve fought more talented people on servers like Yakks Bend, Maguuma and Tarnished Coast than I have in the current Tier one. It’s just numbers and coverage and when it finally dawns on you, the seasons and ladders mean nothing.

Why is JQ and SoR playing dead?

in WvW

Posted by: Elthurien.8356

Elthurien.8356

Demoralized refers to your overall WvW participation. Your “hardcore” daily WvW guild will be out there every day, we know that and those people are respected for it. It’s the fair weather population that becomes the issue. The difference is that BG has its 25-30 man guild group and 30-40 pugs with them because they are doing well VS. SoRs 25 man guild group and no pugs because you’re not doing well. From where we’re standing it looks like SoR stopped showing up and is demoralized.

Thats fine but just don’t rewrite history to say it hasn’t happened to BG when it clearly has on multiple occasions since I’ve been playing against them.

Oh for sure, demoralized fair weathers have hit all 3 of our server a numerous occasion.

Every server has fair weathers and PvE players showing up for map completions and jumping puzzles, and a lot of the Hardcore players eventually rotate every few months, they also get sick of it and move on or take breaks. The only thing that has remained constant throughout GW2s history is that the server that overloads themselves to reach number one eventually crumbles under it’s own weight and goes back to the bottom. Which is probably why JQ and SOR really don’t care about BG, hell, the only reason I’m posting in this thread is because I’m stuck at work with nothing to do.

Why is JQ and SoR playing dead?

in WvW

Posted by: Elthurien.8356

Elthurien.8356

Because SoR and JQ don’t understand how to play long-haul, and get demoralized very quickly. It doesn’t take much to get either server to give up, even when they are full well within the range of re-taking a lead. They also have a tendency to get tunnel vision (maybe bad scouts, or lack of communication) and they forget that the large part of winning is defending objectives.

JQ and SoR like to make a lot of predictions, and spread false drama. If they spent less time doing this, and more time strategizing and playing the game, things might be different.

When JQ or SoR are winning: “It’s because we’re better”
When JQ or SoR are losing: “We don’t care about PPT, or seasons, or objectives, or obamacare”

When BG winning: “Sup?”
When BG losing: “Sup?”

Large number of my guilds most hardcore players played Battlefield 4 for 2 weeks and no GW2 WvW, still winning. No excuses mateys!

Not making excuses buddy, just saying that WvW just aint that all that interesting anymore so I’m looking for other interests. You can chest beat all you want but at the end of the day, I’m having fun and you got nobody to fight.

if they were so experienced why did they leave their thieves? many of us still enjoy the class. don’t really get it.

I play my thief when I want a challenge. Using S/P & SB, withdraw, Rfi, with zero stealth. To be completely honest though Thief just doesn’t have enough variety to keep it entertaining (and I’ve been playing thieves since they had 1d4 HP)

Most nights I run with my Warrior because it’s more fun, then I have Guardian, Ranger and Engineer to play as well for variety. Overall I found the thief incredibly boring after two months, they just have so little variety that there was no longevity to keep me interested, the Warrior on the other hand has an amazing array of weapon skills and build options, as does the Ranger, the guardian feels like the most useful support and the Engineer is just so kitten fun.

Champion bags are ruining open world PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Champion bags are not ruining anything.

Before them it was running CoF over and over again.

People will always flock to whatever gives the best rewards, and I’d much rather have people be out in the open world than inside a dungeon.

And this is exactly the reason why we don’t see new zones.
ArenaNet doesn’t want to waste time, money and resources to make a new map when people will just go there, complete the content and then leave forever unless the level up an alt.
They’d much rather make the existing world as rewarding as possible than expanding it just for the sake of doing so.

By that same token, all Arenanet need to do is put an NPC genie in every starter zone that rewards you with a rare, some dragonite and a chance at a precursor for pressing the F key every five minutes and everyone will flock there like moths to a bug zapper. It’s a disgusting excuse for modern game design and should not be encouraged.

I dont quite see how that argument works. First of all, champ trains weren’t intended, they are a result of abusing spawn timers. Anet could suddenly randomise spawn timers and get rid of them, but there would be a metric ton of complaints and without any solutions to populate the open world, we would just get even emptier worlds.

It’s not really an argument. I was just pointing out that ANet wont waste time creating new zones BECAUSE people always go for the fastest route to the reward. The way MMOs are designed lately are a perfect example of humans behaving like laboratory animals. Just end the illusion, give them three shapes to match and reward them like the good monkeys they are and start developing something interesting for the rest of us.

Imo the problem was that there was not enough karma sinks in the game, it wasn’t that there was too much karma and it was too easy to acquire. Maybe people weren’t buying enough karma boosters, I don’t know. What I do know is that Karma was and should still be the primary currency in the game because it cannot be bought and must be earned.

In any case, I got tired of every single patch nerfing the Thief so I play a Warrior now and I’m much happier. When they fix the thief I’ll be back, until then I’m sure there will be more nerfs, maybe stealth will get it, idk.

Importance of End Game (scale 1-10)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Elthurien.8356

Elthurien.8356

End game is such a broad descriptive that has a different definition for each and every player. In GW2 WvW is my end game, on a scale of 1-10 I would rate it as the most important thing in the game for me at 10. However I am only giving an example within the confines of what the game has offered to me that I find appealing or not. That’s not to say I don’t like PvE Raiding or other forms of end game, but I honestly don’t think it would appeal to me like WvW or RvR does any more. I totally despise vertical gear progression such as World of Warcraft or Rift.

In all honesty, I don’t dislike PvE dungeons, raids, or anything else they have to offer, but I look at levels 1-70 as forgotten content after my first character reaches level cap. I would really love to see (and in hindsight would have loved to have seen in this game) level cap at level 20 or 30 and every single map thereafter being of equal level, but of varied challenge. I really dislike how modern MMO’s are trivialising massive persistent game worlds by focusing content into a handful of end zones.

What I would find appealing in a PvE game, would be for it to have a fast level cap (20 or 30), but a massive world past that point, filled with a huge variety of mini-dungeons, group content, raid content and open world events with persistent changes (I really dislike Living world’s fire and forget content). I’d even buy into a game that had no levels at all, where every player had a standard base of attributes, with a horizontal progression system extending from that.

I find that most modern MMO’s have just turned into Lobby games of late. Where players stand around a trading post selling their loot and waiting for dungeon/fotm groups to pop. The large worlds are teeming with dust and tumble-weeds. They don’t feel like Massive Multiplayer Online games any more, but more like an old game of Diablo.

MMO’s should be about a virtual world in which every time you log on, you take part in and improve that world as your character or one of your alternate characters. It is this kind of feature that players are labelling as “Sandbox”, yet it should not be labelled as sandbox, it should just be MMO. Star Wars Galaxies was like this once upon a time, it truly should have been used as an example of an interactive gaming world. Yet here we are in the eve of 2013, over ten years have passed and we are still being fed the junkfood of MMOs (Standing in a city hub, getting a group and doing instanced content).

End game should not exist in MMO’s, that word belongs in Single Player/Multiplayer games where a game is destined to have an ending.

Nothing is more ridiculous to me than the idea that I am just one of a thousand other adventurers.

I know my character’s history, I know all the big baddies that my character has personally defeated, I know how many hundreds of thousands of enemies she personally has slain. There is no way she is just another adventurer.

No, it is her enemies who are just more random NPCs that came out of nowhere and slink back into the nowhere they came from once she slays them too.\

If anything, my character should be the one that bosses have to raid by getting together 20-50 of their friends and not the other way around. Especially because from my perspective, it is her enemies who are just random nobodies and not my character whose long trials I have witnessed every moment of.

This is an interesting concept. I would love to see the roles reversed in this way.

How many really care about personal story?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’ve never really liked personal stories in any MMO that tries to do it. The most recent that come to mind being GW2, SWToR and AoC. I have always preferred MMOs that treat the individual player as just another adventurer in a world full of adventurers, but with an overarching plot for the whole world, not for the individual. I find personal stories to be weak in comparison, the whole heroic feel to them is nullified when a thousand other players are labelled as the “chosen one”.

For this reason I am glad that GW2 is going down a different path with the living world content. With the world story developing, it feels more alive and more like an MMo to me and I hope it continues and improves in time.

I found Traheaerne to be a very bland saladhead when compared to the apple loving Charr Tybalt.

You could always flip it on them. Use the LFG feature and ask for a group of level 35-40 and kick out any that insist on trivialising your run with their fully geared/skilled 80s.

100 % Critical Chance... wow!!!

Wow….. even your misses crit. CRITICAL MISS!!!

Critical Fail actually. When that happens you trip and stab yourself in the eye.

No seriously, look up Critical Fail tables for D&D and the like. A really bad one and you fail so badly with a dagger swing you KILL YOURSELF.

Or when chewing Elthurien’s Wondrous Inflatable Gum of Chewing, a critical failure causes the player to bite his tongue in a most uncomfortable and painful manner.

A critical failure when blowing bubbles with said gum causes blindness when the bubble explodes violently in the players face

When can we expect raiding

I believe raiding can be done with the GW2 system without the Holy Trinity. I would love to see a raid interface for 20-25 players for both PvE & WvW, and I think it would need to be put in place prior to any traditional raid style dungeons. There is one thing I do not care to see happen though, and that is more power creep with gear progression. I am all in favour of exclusive vanity/skins for boasting rights as a reward but I like GW2 because it doesn’t have (yet) a massive power creep like most other MMOs

Can you add a new WvW Currency plz

I’ll pay 2000 badges + 50 laurels for a Gift of Zhaitan.

The PvE people really don’t have to WvW anymore for a Gift of Battle, since badges are in the achievement chests (and you can map complete w/out participating in any fights).

Indeed, I was a little jealous that PvE players could get their gift of battle from achievements and yet I had to endure several runs of CM for my gift of the noble.

I use:

  • Full Pvt in large scale WvW with hammer/staff
  • Celestial Armour, Weapons and Accessories with Ruby Rings/amulet for WvW roaming with mace/focus and greatsword
  • Full Magi Armour, Cleric Trinkets with Mace/Focus and Staff for support PvE
  • 3 piece celestial/3berserker and ruby for Dps PvE
