If you’re talking about two figures talking to each other against a backdrop, that ended with the personal story. Cut scenes now are quite different.

I wouldn’t know, I haven’t really been able to find where the living world content is; which was the main point I was trying to make before I got side-tracked. I’ve been back for a few days now and saw some of the new map, then just gravitated to WvW. I haven’t actually noticed anything drawing my attention to living world. I might have gotten a pop up at some stage but gw2 has so many popups that I may have just dismissed it as a pest.

It is nice to see that the HoT did manage to get numbers up again. It shows how people are more interested in expansions as in the Living Story approach as no LS was able to do that, while only the announcement of an expansion does. Of course also the sales will have helped a lot to attract new peoples and from existing players who did buy a second account.

At the same time I notice in game that many of the people who came back during the announcement already left again, coming back when HoT really gets released. So if HoT gets released in Q3 and there will be no special events until then I expect again lower income in Q2.

Big question is how HoT will be sold (I expect good, while not as good as it could have been because of some of the damage done) and how it performs the half a year after release (so basically Q4 or more Q1). That will be very important for the long-longevity for GW2. If with HoT they manage to get rid of the never ending grind, and get a fun game gain where collecting becomes fun game-play then this game might have a long life-spawn, if not, I expect it will scale down after that.

I’m a returning player (been afk 14 months until this week); the living story was a good concept, but the way it is interfaced is non-intuitive to returning players and to put it rather bluntly, I really don’t enjoy the way the personal story quests are implemented in GW2 compared to the standard MMO quest logs.

I love the way open world pve works in GW2, I love the renown tasks and the dynamic events, but I really don’t like the storyboard style of GW2 or the way it creates personal instances for you. I never really liked the NPC’s in the personal story either, it always seemed shallow to me, like a bad cartoon that makes you cringe every time someone speaks.

HoT expansion probably did grab my attention and pique my interest to come back for a look, but if the questing is going to be another story board style deal I probably wont buy it.

Something is going on with my system I think, I was getting over 100fps yesterday in WvW on low settings during one session. Then during a later session it had dropped to 15fps again and there was no high density fighting going on, just me roaming during off-peak.

When it dropped low during this session I exited the program and restarted my PC and got a VGA Bios error (Long beep followed by two short beeps). This PC is on it’s second GPU; the original build had a GTX580 in it and used to get the same VGA Bios error on occasion after a hard lock up.

First Screenshot is in Lions Arch with my PvE settings; fps doesn’t seem bad today so I might update the thread if the performance drops and I don’t get a hard lock or force restart.

Where are you getting these FPS, large scale WVW? That’s normal.
All alone in a quiet spot in Orr? Then something is wrong.

From the moment I log in to the game. I’ve tried everywhere from a quiet corner of Queensdale, Divinity’s Reach to WvW.

WvW is actually one of the better areas when I drop everything back to low settings. I’d like to do something else besides WvW all the time though and usually when I’m not in WvW I like to turn the graphics up but it’s just not possible.

I was hoping someone else might have a similar build to my PC and might be able to compare FPS and settings because this seems really unusual.

I’ve just returned to GW2 after a long hiatus and I’ve noticed a significant drop in frame quality regardless of what I set my graphics settings up as. I can run GTAV with high graphics settings and run it consistently over 40fps, other MMOs like Elder Scrolls Online I can run on ultra with frames dipping to around 40fps under heavy load and congested areas, but GW2 I am lucky to keep fps above 20 frames.

My PC is a couple of years old now;
GA-Z68XP-UD3-B3
i7 2600K 3.4GHz oc @3.7GHz
Nvidia Geforce 780GTX 3GB GDDR5 350.12 Drivers
16GB RAM
64Bit Win7 SP1

Even so, if it can handle brand new titles like Battlefield Hardline and GTAV on high settings without so much as a hiccup. The only recent MMO I have is Elder Scrolls Online and my rig has no problems with that.

I have tried the fixes at https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/PC-FPS-and-Performance-based-issues/first#post338300 but they don’t help at all.

DxDiag.txt attached.

I think the real problem is that thiefs get access to a mechanic no other class has access to, wants, and is quite deadly. No it’s not stealth but the ability to spam a certain skill with no CD.

Say what you want but that’s just my opinion

+1

It is that very mechanic that makes the thief cheesy. You cannot avoid the cheese, the thief must become one with the cheese, the thief IS the cheese, the cheese IS the thief. To think how much more interesting the thief would have been if he had cooldowns like the rest. Because hindsight.

Elthurien.8356

I think SoR’s problem is that you cant just randomly decide to be a ‘for the fights server’ after being a ‘for the ppt server’ for so long.

You attracted a large number of players for what you were, not what you suddenly decided to become because you realized what the majority of the player base has been saying since a month after release, PPT is broken.

We were always about the community before anything else. We played the PPT to get to the higher tiers, the intention was to sit around T2 & 3 originally as it was the sweet spot of good fights without the massive queues. We’ve always been about the fights though, even back when we were 15th or 17th in NA we preferred open field engagements over hiding in keeps.

People can try to say otherwise, but GW2guru forums will always show what Sanctum of Rall is about.

This post is from July 2012, the month before the Official Launch.

This post is from 2 months after launch.

This is from 3 months after launch. Note how a Blackgate guild is requesting people to transfer TO SoR because they enjoyed fighting us so much…

This thread is from December 2012. Again, we were getting flogged by Blackgate’s night crew (have we really been fighting BG that long?) because we were still outmanned during OCX but we continued fighting, because we just freaking loved fighting.

I must say it is sad to see all of my friends go from SoR, I had a lot of good times and met a lot of amazing people over the last 18 months. I stopped playing GW2 shortly after the new year, and I guess it’s for the best because the memories I have left are of the good times fighting alongside the Oceanic crew. I would follow Rai, Green Arrow, Nirmuu and Sarhill into battle any kitten day of the week. Gonna miss you guys, not just the leader in WvW, but the people of those guilds, hopefully our paths cross again in the future.

How do you feel about GW2 right now?

Elthurien.8356

Right now? I don’t feel anything. After playing since launch almost every night I was home, this weekend just passed, I stopped playing. I’ve had enough. I’m waiting for the next subscription MMO to come out because I’m sick of spending more money on gems than I would on a subscription and only getting half the enjoyment out of it.

So many little things just built up over time until I realised I was actually starting to resent the game. The main culprit? Ascended tier.

I might be back, I hope that when I do, my animosity toward the game has gone. I think there’s more chance that something more interesting will take it’s place.

Thiefs doing more damage than siege

in WvW

Posted by: Elthurien.8356

Elthurien.8356

Thief is a cheesy profession, as it was intended to be. We’re squishy, and we are the best at being that. We’re supposed to be the hated one, the one you’ll never see coming, but you’ll definitely feel. If we fail we have the tools to gtfo, if we fail that then a thief is a free loot bag. We hit hard, if we fail we disengage, that’s how it was designed.

I’ve been literally one-shotted by warriors using eviscerate or kill shot (the latter one being a ranged high damage attack), do you see me complaining?

Some facts from the GW2 wiki:

Kill Shot

  • lvl 3 adrenaline damage: 1256 (damage multiplier of 3,25)
  • Range: 1500
  • Combo finisher: Physical Projectile

Eviscerate

  • lvl 3 adrenaline dagame: 1008 (damage multiplier of 3)
  • Range: 300
  • Combo finisher: Leap

Backstab

  • Damage: 806 (damage multiplier of 2,4)
  • Range: 130
  • Stealth attack

As you can see, a thief with full berserker gear is not going to hit nearly as hard as a warrior in the same gear – the difference? Warrior can be immune to conditions for 8 seconds, immune to all damage from 5 seconds and they have twice as much health and toughness as a thief – this without traits and food.

Warrior base stats with heavy lvl 80 ascended armor:

  • Armor: 2187
  • Health: 18372

Thief base stats with medium lvl 80 ascended armor:

  • Armor: 2034
  • Health: 10805

See the differense? Note that I chose warrior because it’s the only profession in the game with an attack with higher damage multiplier than the thiefs backstab. Why do thief has lower stats, because we can stealth and use deception to survive – a warrior was made to breathe you in your face as he crushes it. I would fear the zerker warrior more than the thief. We have literally no immunity skills, as several other more dangerous professions have…

+1
I wish more people understood this.

I have both warrior and a thief as my most played characters.

My warrior has 27k health 2600 armour, 90% crit damage and can smash out a 12k eviserate, triple chop crits for about 5k, and 100blades totals over 14k.
My thief has 19k health, 2200 armour, 100% crit damage, needs to go into melee range, land cloak and dagger and then he can attempt a backstab on a moving target and hope the target doesn’t dodge or turn around and get the backstab in the face for less damage.

The Thief is not as powerful as everybody makes out. Sure there are a few great players that can dance in and out of stealth, dropping 9k backstabs, but it generally requires less than 50ms latency and very sharp skills.

All classes have OP potential, some easier to achieve than others. I still consider thieves to be one of the weakest professions.

My sole reason for logging in now is to find fights in WvW. The rest of the game is so unappealing to me now. I crafted a legendary, I got all my crafts to 400 (and most to 500), made half of one armour set and gave up because of the dragonite and low level cloth required. Grinding everyhting out for my legendary is all the grind I am willing to put into this game. I’m not doing it again for stats, I don’t care if it means I have 200 health less than someone else in WvW.

I looked at the pictures on reddit and I just thought, “That really doesn’t seem worth it to me”

If this game was buy to play I would expect all content available at launch until the next expansion with the exception of transfers, storage, character slots, boosters, which would be available in the MTX store, then I would buy the next expansion for additional content.

If this game were Free to play, I would expect all base launch content available at launch with everything else to be purchased from the MTX store, including new skins, vanity items, transfers, boosters, character slots, storage etc etc.

If this game were subscription model It would include launch content and all future content available at subscription price, this would mean makeover kits, transmutation crystals, character slots, bag space, bank space, skins the whole darn lot would be available for your subscription price. If an expansion ensued, it would be at the cost of an expansion, not a full game. I would not pay a subscription for anything less personally.

This game seems to be trying to blend the top two models together in an attempt to get more out their business model, and then offer gimmicky VIP’s for additional money. Whoever is running the show is going down a very slippery slope if the OP is legit.

I totally agree on your 3 options.. Well maybe boosters should also not go into a B2P model but I can live with transfers / extra char slots and name changer but that’s really it.

I did go for and had much hope for GW2 thinking it would go the B2P way as you describe it and much like they did mainly in GW1.

Sadly it now indeed looks more like the second (F2P) one with the difference that you do need to buy the game first.

In comparison, I can play Neverwinter for free and still not feel forced into the MTX store as much as I do in GW2. I agree with the Nexon theories tbh

How? Lol. Never winter store has MUCH more pay to win than gw2. I purchased a $40 mount on never winter so I could keep up in PvP. Need that 150% speed bonus

..and yet I’ve never spent a cent in Neverwinter since it launched. Then again, I don’t PvP in Neverwinter. I like GW2 WvW better.

Is This Game Actually Fun?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Elthurien.8356

~snip~

I had more fun playing WoW, because at least there you had a good chance at high level drops from bosses.

~snip~

Many thing doesn’t hold true in your post, especially this one.

If that is true, then I don’t see why running the dungeons here in GW2 to get badges so that you can purchase the gears you want is not better than running raids in hopes for a high level drops.

It seems that the problem here is your preference and not the game itself.

This is one thing that psychologists should be jumping all over for research. I realise how doing a dungeon, getting some tokens and repeat until you have enough is appealing to some people but it actually has the opposite effect for me.

I personally love doing dungeons where each boss has a set table of loot that might drop the one item I’m looking for. I would (and have in other games) continue to run the same group of dungeons specifically to farm a set of boss dropped gear and enjoyed every minute, but change that to boss drops tokens that I can spend at a gendor and the whole concept just repulses me for some reason.

Some games have both systems, the boss drops specific loot AND tokens, the tokens can be used to buy a set that is just as good stat wise but has a slightly different skin or texture model to differentiate the two. I really think both systems is better than one or the other, why reward one customer only to repulse another when you can make a slight adjustment and please both?

Caltrops Skill: Explain please?

in Thief

Posted by: Elthurien.8356

Elthurien.8356

I really think Caltrops should have been updated when Torment was introduced to the game. Instead of a double bleed stack it should do one bleed and one torment to simulate how painful it is to continue running around with shards of steel embedded in your foot.

The thing about Torment is that, it’s an effect that is not physical unlike Bleed, Poison, and Burning. I believe this is the reason why Hide in Shadow doesn’t remove Torment because it’s more like an illusion or mental effect than physical.

So having Torment in Caltrops just doesn’t make sense unless of course we coat the Caltrops with hallucinogen venom to induce Tormenting images to the victim.

Yeah I understand that is what they had in mind with the hallucination, but if you look at how torment actually works, it actually makes more sense (to me at least) that torment is just a painful wound that hurts more and does more damage when you move. There is so many possibilities for torment to be used in a fantasy setting, from open wounds that get worse with movement (such as that caused by caltrops), to fractured bones, sprained ankles, haemotoxins, spells or hexes that wither or twist limbs.

Hahah actually that’s a brilliant idea for a dynamic event..

“Darkness comes to Tyria!”

Get rid of the global illumination light sources and make the entire world (or at least one map) only lit from dynamic light sources, like our torches, skills and Mad King books or like.

It would be reminiscent of Diablo 2 Act III, once the eclipse sets in.. That was so annoying, but cool story-wise, for a brief time!

Instead of an eclipse, make it a pitch-black cloud, with a jumping puzzle you have to hop up until you are above the clouds, and can fight the source of the evil black cloud… I guess I’m kind of evil for thinking like this, heheh

This game would be so much cooler if you needed a torch or lantern to navigate caves or even at night time.

Suddenly, he unequipped one dagger, and proceeded to spam Twisting Fangs (1 dagger equipped; skill3). Not only was the range horrendously OP (130), but the spinning animation brought tears to my eyes! I wept as I died from this OP skill. Please, remove the range, or the spinning animation, or make thieves use TWO daggers, not ONE.

That could have been me roaming on single-handed Saturday. Some times I like to run around with no stealth, but the temptation of Cloak and Dagger being so OP it too much. So I remove the offhand and run around Borderlands slapping yaks with our most OP skills, such as STAB and REPEATER! or if I’m playing a condition build, I just get around like a 1st edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Thief with one dagger and Twisted Fangs like it’s 1979.

Why do you not play sPvP?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Elthurien.8356

Elthurien.8356

Because there’s no character progression.

If I wanted to play a straight fighting game, there are plenty of them to choose from. When I play an MMO, I expect long-term character and gear progression. If I want to play a MOBA or an FPS, I’ll go do that.

When I do PvP (and I engage in PvP in every MMO I play), I prefer open-world battles rather than e-sports. WvW is fairly well done in GW2, so that’s where I play.

This is a good post an explains why sPvP in GW2 has essentially been a flop. It doesn’t affect your actual character in anyway, you may as well be playing LoL for all the good it does your characters.

the rewards of being active in PvP are not tangible in the form of new shinies to be proud of till more come out. the MOST rewarding part of PvPing is honing your skill with your profession and playing against an intelligently controlled opponent vs. terribad AI garbage. the reward of seeing that stake sticking out of your opponents back is just as, if not more, rewarding as ‘another rare to salvage’. PvP will take you out of ‘robot mode’ and build you up as a player. surely a novice karate student might practice against a wooden dummy, but the blackbelts practice against their peers always pushing themselves to get a little better. there ARE rewards in PvP, but, for the most part, they are personal rewards and not something you can ‘show off’

I can see where you are coming from, I get a similar feeling in WvW but instead of just my personal skill or achievement, it’s seeing a whole community share their experiences of overcoming challenges, whether they are great battles, smaller victories or crushing defeats, they are just so much more satisfying to me. Fishbowl PvP just doesn’t appeal to me when there are better game modes like RvR to enjoy.

To my knowledge, every game that has tried friendly collision detection has been a failure in part due to trolls.

I’ve seen it done successfully in other games. To avoid trolls there is a toggle button added to the GUI to crawl through the mass, it also increases damage and critical hit chance against the crawler so that it is a death sentence in PvP.

If you choose the melee assist option I think it adds a form of collision detection. I can’t remember how good it is though, I turned it off immediately after logging in on my first character.

Dungeons and Ascended Armor

AR slot is a possibility. If Arena.net unlock higher levels of Fractals, they can require more agony resistance. It could be an “account bound AR slot” seeing that fractals level is account bound. Weapons always have AR slot available (just an update of current ascended weapons).

When you reach a specific level of fractal, a new AR slot is considered on armor.
50 : 1 slot
60 : 2 slot
70 : 3 slot
80 : 4 slot
90 : 5 slot
100 : 6 slot

It can be on any armor item, but if you only reach level 70 fractals, only 3 slots are considered, the bonus of the other armor items isn’t considered (similar to dynamic level).

Why not just make Agony Resist like the new Magic Find then? Make the new Agony Resist dusts work the same way as the Magic Find dusts and leave the itemisation flat like it should be.

Ascended gear wasn’t needed. What was needed was full legendary gear and a larger assortment of legendary skins. Legendaries were a good, long term goal. Ascended just isn’t worth the effort.

I would like to use a sword or greatsword on my necromancer that would do AoE melee damage, and not just single-target like dagger.

Indeed, I would like it to be viable to use a main hand with no offhand on my thief and have a full 5 abilities and not be kitten by the loss of offhand attributes. Bilbo Baggins only needed one sword.

Elthurien,
what if stats are spread out across all 6 trinket slots instead of amulet + jewel? imagine
back + jewel, amulet + jewel, rings + jewels, accessories + jewels

the current conquest mode does kinda encourage bunker builds and burst builds though. need new game modes besides conquest.

as for “disconnect” between sPvp and PvE / WvW what do you think could be done to make it feel more “connect” with one another?

well too late to separate the game now. as it is, guild wars 2 feels like 3 games in 1, and the sPvP side needs more love.

In response to the first two questions, what if instead of attributes being allocated by amulet and jewel, they follow the same recipe as the rest of the game? If I could use my PVT hat/coat/legs with Valkyrie Shoulders/Gloves/Boots with Valk gems in each, PVT weapons and Berserker Trinkets and Back, then I might be more interested in sPvP.

Even if this were done, I just don’t think I would be that interested in sPvP. If I want to play a match of conquest, I can do it in Battlefield4 with better graphics, better latency and a lot more interesting game-play involving Jets, Tanks and Assault choppers.

I just can’t get into fish bowl game modes. CTF, TDM, DM, King of the Hill, Conquest have all been done ad nauseam. Warhammer Online had a couple of interesting Scenarios, but nothing memorable enough for me to repeat, Alterac Valley from Warcraft was probably one of my favourites in the early days, but I doubt that would translate well in sPvP. Age of Conan had better open world PvP than it ever did with sPvP so there’s nothing there worth repeating. It’s all been done and dusted.

Maybe if Australia/NZ had a regional sPvP server it might be worth playing too, high latency can be overcome in WvW/PvE to some degree but that split second is a killer in sPvP. I doubt that there is enough revenue coming from OCX for that to happen though.

i want a new heavy profession too.
but i can’t think of any new profession names anymore.
the 8 professions seems to have covered it all.

warrior (high health, heavy armor)
guardian (low health, heavy armor)
??? (medium health? heavy armor)

ranger (medium health, medium armor)
engineer (medium health, medium armor)
thief (low health, medium armor)

mesmer (medium health, light armor)
elementalist (low health, light armor)
necromancer (high health, light armor)

You notice that none of the mediums have high health? I kind of wish ranger did, since it’s the only non-stealth melee medium class. Plus you back it up lorewise with them knowing natural remedies and herbs. Maybe I’m just asking too much, though.

Not sure what the base health of Engineer or Ranger are, but I’ve reached about 30k with full PVT exotics on the Engineer and around 28k on the Ranger. My current Ranger build is 26k health with food.

2013 is over. Did they keep their promises?

Not really, but lets be honest, it’s free to play, no sub. Maybe we should be glad they added anything at all, even if it was living story crap and a gear grind.

It’s buy to play, not free to play. If it were free to play, all of the mini’s and cool looking armour and weapons would only be bought through the item shop…

..oh wait.

Why do you not play sPvP?

Why would I want to play a conquest game with MMO graphics and cross pacific latency when I could play conquest BF4 on a local server?

sPVP offers nothing new or interesting. That is why I don’t play it.

I love WvW though, it’s chaotic, unbalanced and never ending. The ebb and flow is the perfect endgame.

If Arenanet makes this class. They will get money from me purely because I will have to use a transmutation splitter and crystal to move my legendary mace over to this character. Brilliant profession idea, original and well thought out.

I posted this on Jan 16th 2013.. so almost a year ago.

The missing Soldier profession should be a dark offensive magic theme to compliment the non-magic warrior and the Light defensive magic Guardian.
It would also compliment the other Dark professions of Necro/Thief.
Using the Dark offensive magic theme you could go for something with:

  • Dark and Poison combo fields
  • Boon removal abilities
  • Confusion
  • Life Stealing
  • Chill
  • Water based healing
  • Medium base health (Guardians are low/Warriors high)

i “work” all night with my teammates to get stuff to tier3 just to lose it in the morning to 20 ppl with no effort, so lets do something about that for people who play at night due for not having a 9 to 5 job

When I get home from work it’s midnight on the west coast NA and 6am for the UK, I have a choice of 300ms latency to a NA server or 500ms to an EU server because we do not have any Oceanic servers. How do you propose this be fixed? Would you prefer that I take back all your stuff while you are at work or would you prefer it if I take it all back while you sleep?

Poor Australian players. They dont have any server.

Fit them to nearest time zone

They are fit into the nearest time zone.. which just happens to be in the middle of the night NA or early morning EU. Closest physical server for best latency is NA.

How about this for a final solution:
Deal with it.

CDI- Character Progression-Horizontal

in CDI

Elthurien.8356

Let’s keep things simple

Subclass Traiting System

  • Expand the number of traitlines available to each profession.
  • Make most of the traitlines (and each of their respective tiers) collectible through levels, quests, tome collection and boss hunting.
  • Give an unique subclass flavor to each traitline (already happens to a certain extent). This also implies a redesign of the current traitlines and different trait allocation.
  • Have each traitline offer traits that more deeply affect weapon’s skills, core profession mechanic skills and the profession as a whole.

This would basically be an expansion of the current trait system, with a stronger subclass flavor.

Opportunities for more Horizontal Progression with this system

  • Enhanced world exploration (new quests, boss hunting, tome collecting).
  • New acchievements tied to new subclass-driven content.
  • More variations of pre-defined skill sets (more weapon traits, more core mechanic traits).
  • Higher stat customisation, because traitlines would eventually start offering stats other traitlines already do.

Other advantages

  • Journey to lv.80 will be more exciting/ diversified.
  • Character customisation will continue beyond max level.
  • Character customisation will not be as underwhelming after the first few levels.
  • Easier to expand the system by adding more trait lines over the time (each new traitline addition would mean three new collectible tiers to be found around the world).
  • Enhanced world immersion.
  • Stronger build flavor for two reasons: subclasses would have more evocative names, and the pre-defined flavor for each traitline would not clash directly with efficiency. Players would be able to choose the best traits for each traitline without sacrificing flavor, because flavor is already pre-defined. The current trait system can already do this, but due to the geometrical and rigid 5 traitline setup, it is both too restrictive and too broad.
  • Subclass flavor can work as a source of inspiration for Anet’s designers to create new effects, without being “stuck” to the current, rigid traitline structure.

If anyone believes my proposal would be worse than the current system we have in place, please, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

+1 This is good.

Personally I would like to see ten trait lines as opposed to five, one attribute dedicated to a trait mastery instead of two attributes that don’t necessarily match sandwiched into one trait mastery, and twice the amount of trait points to spend so you can cover the attributes you want.

For example, as a Thief, I might want to make an acrobat build focusing on power/toughness/vitality, but I have absolutely no use for venom or stealth related traits. I might want to make a pure damage build that revolves around steal and steal augmenting traits, but all of those traits are in the stealth/condition lines of Deadly Arts, Trickery and Shadow Arts. I would love to make a non-stealth, non-teleport, non-venom thief to focus on abilities like Withdraw, Roll for Initiative and Melee, but it’s just not possible with the current mechanics.

Another example could be as a Ranger, I want to make a pure melee/berserker build with Greatsword and Sword/Warhorn I have absolutely no use for condition duration, spirits, pets or condition related traits or attributes whatsoever, the Greatsword/sword skills are in the Woodland Survival line.

Reading through a lot of the comments on various class diversification (or just stronger trait/skill diversification) concepts, one of the things that seems to be missing is a discussion on how you’d actually earn/unlock these additional abilities to make it a progression system.

One of the goals of progression, in this case horizontal, is to create an extended sense of game play and thus = reward for playing it.

For example, we’ve added more skills to the game recently, but those simply unlock with skill points, which basically means -> play any part of the game that gives exp, or kill champs to get skill point books. That’s ok as systems of unlocking horizontal progression go for the extended class diversification, but game play wise it generally means find the easiest place to get XP/champ-loot and do it over and over again for a large % of players, since folks most often gravitate towards the path of least resistance.

What sort of systems of horizontal progression unlocking would you like to see that’d accompany a system like extended class progression?

For Utility Skills I would prefer to see the same system used. Add a new layer beneath the 6 skill point skills and make them cost 12 skill points each.

For Elite skills however, I think it should involve all aspects of the game. You first must hunt down the master trainer, much like a KungFU master living on a reclusive mountainous monastery. Each Elite skill is taught by a different master at a different location. The master trainer will send you on a quest (that’s right, a quest!) to gather four unique items, each item comes from a different aspect of the game.
One Elite Skill quest for example could be:

  • One can be found after defeating the Jade Maw.
  • One drops from a player’s corpse in WvW.
  • One can be found in the Forsaken Fortune Mini-Dungeon, in Dredgehaunt Cliffs.
  • One can be found in the Royal Tombs of Azabe Qabar, in Cursed Shore.

Upon returning the items to the master trainer he teaches you the skill.
Additionally, he could ask you to combine them in the mystic forge and bring him the resulted item.

PvE & WvW: Would you sPvP if rewarded badges of honor?

dear PvE / WvW players,

would you be inclined to participate, play sPvP more often if you have a good chance to earn some badges of honor from there?

yes? no? why?

just a simple “what if” question to think about.

thank you for reading!

No. Badges of Honor aren’t really worth much to be honest. I’ve had enough to gear up five level 80’s twice over and still plenty left over to buy siege and traps.

I just don’t find sPvP that interesting. Even when they started rewarding gold last patch I popped in for a little while but just didn’t enjoy myself so I left soon after.

I honestly couldn’t tell you what would encourage me to play sPvP.
Here’s a few points on why I don’t like sPvP (I like bullet points):

  • I can’t mix and match my gear the way I can in PvE/WvW
  • Every class is either a nuker or a bunker, there’s no variety
  • There’s a disconnect between sPvP and the rest of the game

They should have just launched sPvP as a separate game altogether and called it Guild Wars 2 Arena, charged $20 and gave it their own resources to upkeep and maintain. By doing so they could have balanced the two games completely separate from each other, using the same professions as templates but having complete freedom over the rest of it that wouldn’t interfere with the PvE/WvW game and vice/versa.

It only got harder for me after I I levelled all the melee/martial professions. All of my 80’s were a blast to level, each one took a different path. I’m still stuck with three wizards in the low-mid levels. No matter how hard I try I just can’t get into magic users. I think mesmers are awesome, but I just can’t stand all the purple butterflies.
