Forsaken Fortune in Lornar’s Pass would have to be my favourite. I wish there were more mini-dungeons in the game that were like this.
OP, when you say kill 2-3 players and then disappears and teleports away, does the thief actually finish those player off or are they in downed state? because if he finished them off it would take a lot longer than a few seconds and your group really should have take. care of him by then. If they were all downlevelled and running poor builds with average gear and the thief was 80 and geared well….
The main point here is, if a thief runs, you have won the fight. Just because you didn’t kill him doesn’t mean you lose. You win be forcing him to Stealth and Shadow return.
I could see the Bard as a mix of mesmer, engineer and warrior.
I think the Bard would still use a regular weapon slot with weapons such as Sword, Longbow and Shortbow, with Dagger and Torch as offhand options but would be unable to weapon swap to a secondary weapon set. The use of weapons would be the path of the Skald when traits are concerned. This would be offset by having instruments in their utility skills much like an Engineer does with kits. Weapons would provide standard abilities similar to that of a warriors, while instruments would be a mix of boons that buff the group and conditions that affect emotions like confusion, fear and weakness. Instruments would be the trait path of the minstrel. Other trait paths could consist of the Joker (Misdirection and mischief), the Grifter (Bluff and Distraction utility skills) or the Troubadour (Utility skills via poetry and minor incantations).
Neverwinter online looks like a terrible game, I can’t believe they think anyone is actually going to play it. If anything is going to take a chunk out of the GW2 player base, it will most likely be the Elder Scrolls online.
Then you sir are ignorant of the LARGE D&D fanbase thats been around since before most of us were born.
the same LARGE D&D Fanbase playing D&D Online? Oh wait….
I am part of that fanbase having played pen and paper D&D since the late 80’s
and No I couldn’t care less that Neverwinter online is coming out. It looks terrible.
I didn’t even like the last Neverwinter Nights single player.
As for DDO, that put me off completely- I hated that game.Anyone can claim they’re something
You’re ignoring the larger picture behind their posts. The D&D fanbase is incredibly fractured. Take me, for example. I’ve played D&D since the mid-80’s; I started on Advanced D&D, went on to AD&D 2nd Ed, then switched to 3.0/3.5 Ed. I and my group still play 3.5, because we hated the way that 4E largely homogenized the different classes, and because it ripped the guts out of a lot of past D&D lore. We have not, and will not, touch any D&D game that uses 4th Ed. rules. (Maybe we might come back for D&D Next, but that’s another issue.)
There are also players out there who are still sticking to 2nd Ed, or even earlier versions. Then you have the D&D players who don’t like video games at all, or might dislike the way that Turbine and Cryptic have implemented their vision of D&D.
All that means that you can’t rely on the fact that D&D has a large following who love the brand name to instantly jump on board when Neverwinter is released. There are many more factors in play which could drive them away or lose their interest.
^ This.
I started with D&D Basic and played right through till 3.5e. Hated and still hate 4e.
The only computer game that even came close to replicating the game in it’s true form was Temple of Elemental Evil by Troika in 2003. Nothing else has come close and never will.

Just like you’re claiming that NWO will have an impact on GW2. Which it wont.

Sorry to tell you this, but I am one of that fan base that played way back then and I can’t say Neverwinter and the 4e Rules really interest me. Pathfinder and Paizo publishing are the true successors to Dungeons and Dragons, not Wizards and 4e. I know I will be playing guild wars 2 followed by elder scrolls online and pathfinder online when they are eventually released. I’m sure Neverwinter will gather a niche of players but it wont dent GW2 anywhere near as much as Elder Scrolls will.
Honestly, I have to say in many many years of playing MMOs and playing PVP MMOs I’ve never known a faction/side emote spam as much as SOR does, the idea that it’s a few isolated incidents is pretty funny because it’s just not, it doesn’t bother me but it leaves you wondering what the they think they are getting out of it.
Depends on the emote. If a single player does a suicide run into a group of my team mates, I will always send them a /bow or /salute in respect. Especially if they are skilled enough to take out more than one player in the process.
I’ve had players from other servers /dance on my corpse before too. It’s not an SoR thing. It never really bothered me if they got the kill. What does bother me is when some little punk that didn’t contribute to the kill does it. Earn the right to slashdance kids, you just look like twits when you didn’t earn the kill.
I had someone yell at me because I defended an NPC he was farming for “Healer”. That was pretty disheartening.
Personally i would of told him not so politely to go jump of a bridge and revive himself :P
I didn’t even know what to say. I stood there for a minute, he was dragging ice elementals over to the npc and standing next to her so they would AOE and hit her, she’d aggro and they’d kill her. Then he’d rez, and start again. It took a long, long time. I just left him to it.
Sounds like he was making it harder than he needed it to be. It’s funny the creative ways people can come up with to do content in minimal time. Makes you wonder if they actually enjoy it.
I posed this question in another thread but im wondering would you rather fight unarmed, 1 horse sized duck or 100 duck sized horses? discuss.
The real issue there is, would the horse weigh the same as a duck, or less, or more? Because that would determine if it was a witch…..
WOOD! It’s Made of Wood1!
I wish I had 100-200ms latency. 350-500ms is more like it. Try playing a thief with high latency, it’s amazing how quick you can die as a glass cannon when your steal is blocked by Aegis or cloak and dagger constantly misses.
The problem is you decided to farm PvE mobs in a hostile environment without paying attention to your surroundings. Maybe you were rusty, maybe you were tired but any class could have crept up on you and killed you at 50% health.
For the record, I live in Cairns (300-500ms) and play a Thief, Guardian and Ranger in WvW and the Guardian is by far the most powerful of the three, especially fighting thieves. My guardian has 1.2k healing, 2.6k toughness and 20k health, thieves can’t kill me. It sounds like you focused too much on toughness and not enough on vitality.

if it is profitable, you just get people kill trade for loot.
Kinda like players that glitch dungeons to run them faster for coin?
I’m not worried about loot drops in WvW but…
It would be nice if there was more variety of exotics to purchase with badges and it would be even better if they didn’t cost so many badges. I can get a full set of Ascalon gear in a week of dungeons, the same set in WvW would take a month.
You don’t need to revive players, go out and find a PvE dynamic event (ones where villages are getting invaded) and you will get your daily done in no time.
When you have no keep you can’t even get into the JP o_O! Yet I was still waiting in Queue…
Maybe they were feasting on Grubb?
One word?
eSports
That’s a joke btw, what eSport? lol
Are there a good number of players who don’t do dungeons?
Over 1000 hours played here and I can count how many dungeons I’ve done on two hands. I crafted or bought my own gear for most of my characters, bought temple gear for others with Karma earned in WvW. Currently you can play this game without ever setting foot inside instanced PvE (Fractals or Dungeons).
I’d much rather have a trait that grants a passive 25% speed and pick another active ability.
I agree. Also, since other professions got the 25% speed signets it no longer makes us the masters of mobility that we once were.
Btw, Infiltrators Signet can be used as an alternative to steal if you pre-load CnD or PW, making it harder for the enemy to avoid. I prefer Infiltrator Signet for this purpose.
I think Inquisitor suited the profession theme more tbh.
Soldiers are currently lacking the dark theme, which an Inquisitor would fit perfectly.
Soldiers are also missing conditions and effects like chill, confusion, poison, darkness and water. All of those effects and conditions would fit a Dark Inquisitor theme.
As I mentioned in another thread it is awfully hard to dodge incoming stuff fast enough when you have a high ping connection (Oceanic players can’t avoid high pings). I just wish they would consider ALL their player base when designing stuff…especially when they WON’T give us an Oceanic server with reasonable latencies.
Oceanic latency is not an excuse. I live in Far North Queensland and have no problems avoiding grenth poo with 300-500ms latency. It took practice to get the event done and this will all be trivial in a months time when people actually learn how to defeat him.
Bowl of Saffron-Mango Ice Cream is ok food for healers
^ This. Saffron-Mango Ice cream food buff with Cleric armor and Magi trinkets is a really good boost to healing.
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
I’m Australian and had no problem getting the daily done. I didn’t even have to try, it just happened naturally while I was gaming
I think thieves being able to stealth finish is the most aggravating mechanic in the game, makes me rage every time it happens.
At least a thief can still be killed with AoE when he uses stealth to defeat. Unlike professions that use invulnerability skills like elixir S, Mist Form, Aegis etc.
I did all of my daily in WvW yesterday. I fail to see the point of this thread. QQ for QQ sake?
WvW patch is in Feb. As always the patch will be at the end of the month.
I agree. I’m not disputing your suggestion, I think thrill of the crime belongs in acrobatics, along with 20% reduction to tricks and bountiful theft. I also think that master trapper and all trap related traits in the acrobatics line belong in the trickery line.
The highest backstab crit i’ve gotten on a bunker class was about 7k and it was only because I had about 12 stacks of might and full bloodlust stacks. I honestly don’t think that is Op when you consider how easy it is for a ranger to immobilise and rapid fire for 12k as a glass cannon and then follow it up with birdies of death ( I run a zerker ranger)
Imo all trap related traits belong in trickery and trick related traits belong in acrobatics. You only need to look at the skills to see where they belong. With the exception of caltrops and Scorpion wire, tricks are all acrobatic in nature.
- Roll for Initiative: You tumble backward, slipping out of snares and regain initiative.
- Haste: A quick burst of speed that leaves you exhausted
- Scorpion Wire/Caltrops: Not necessarily acrobatic but still, neither are traps.
I believe the hat is misclassed in the sPvP wardrobe as stalwart. I was able to get the commando hat through the personal storyline but it was just a bandit mask. Makes me wonder if the hat is supposed to be in the game but is under the wrong name in the item database.
I’m currently wearing the commanders coat (available from level 77 personal story). I would love to have the rest available from PvE
Shadow refuge makes it much easier than most other professions
Currently Mug is a big part of the “ZOMG Thief instant-gibbed me” combo.
What if instead of extra burst damage, Mug applied 5 Bleeds to the target?
Not only would this reduce burst damage significantly without hurting sustainable DPS, it would also thematically suit the Deadly Arts tree better which is more about Venoms/Conditions than burst.
Sure…when we take away all the other classes’ class specific damage abilities…starting with warriors. Have you seen the damage warriors do?
Use some common sense. People who use Mug are NOT all playing ermergad steal c&d bs to kill bad players.
Deadly Arts tree is just that…DEADLY ARTS…burst damage suites it perfectly considering it PROVIDES POWER!
Your logic is flawed.
People who use Mug outside of a Backstab build barely do any damage with it. I think it hits for roughly 800 on a typical Condition spec.
Deadly Arts also happens to provide Condition Duration and is thematically about Venoms.
You’re logic is also flawed. Deadly Arts is about power just as much as condition duration. Some traits augment venoms, while other traits augment direct damage.
The thief has enough bleed options, mug is fine as it is. As always people fail to see the root of the problem, which is critical damage. Critical damage is the problem attribute for all professions, it is the sole reason that every glass cannon has the option to do a one-shotting combo.
I thought we were taking it easy. Doesn’t mean we’re going to let you take our stuff or trample our nice lawn though.
NO
Twenty levels would have been fine, 80 levels is just bearable, any more will just turn the game into another never-ending struggle to remain at peak performance. I would rather see more variety of content added in expansions, not more content that requires me to reequip and go through the whole levelling process again. Guild Wars had three expansions without the need to raise the level cap, Guild Wars 2 should follow this winning strategy.
Regarding #3 Weave.
Ranger sword 3 has identical issues to Thief sword 3 with tracking/pathing issues.
I also thin Thieves should have a single weapon style for sword mh, dagger mh and pistol mh. We only have 21 weapon skills, the pure d/d, sb, p/p and s/x then there is only one additional skill for the hybrid sets s/p, d/p, p/d.
I would love to be able to use just a single dagger in my main hand and have a full set of five skills without needing an offhand. The only real hurdle is lacking the attributes.
I’d like a ding dong ditching siege weapon. Say, a bag that you light on fire, put in front of the enemy gate and knock. They will open, and as they try to stomp out the fire, storm the keep!
I lol’d
I personally want the player catapult …. Load em in and shoot them over the walls.
I would love it if catapults had an extra ability to load players into.
NOBODY EXPECTS THE DOLYAK INQUISITION!
Our chief weapon is surprise. Surprise, and fear. Two! Our two weapons are surprise and fear … and an endless supply of ruminant tonics. Our three weapons are … no … amongst our weaponry, are such diverse elements as surprise, fear, and endless supply of ruminant tonics … and a fanatical devotion to the Golem God, and his servant, Bloody Beard! And a good time was had by most, if not all. A few of us did make an entire circuit around SoRBL in form, and even participated in a successful breakout event that saw the dolyak banner raised over the ramparts of Redlake. Much infidel blood was trampled into the mire beneath our hooves this night.
Trouble at the mill?
I think that Anet is trying to hard to not be like Blizzard, which sucks because WoW copies a ton of great ideas. So basically Anet shuns great ideas for the sake of their own pride vs what makes games so dang fun.
If Anet made GW2 to be anything like WoW, I wouldn’t be here, and they wouldn’t be getting my gem money.
For players like me, their strategy is working.
This is how I feel also. ANet are making more money from me than they would if they charged me $15/month and the fact that this doesn’t even bother me must mean that they have done something right.
I won’t pay Blizzard $15/Month because I no longer like their game design, yet I happily fork over $100/Month in GW2 for gems because I enjoy their game and the direction they have taken.
Brilliant suggestion +1 from me
The problem I see lately is that Lion’s Arch is too overcrowded. They never should have placed everything into the one zone as a HUB. Yes it is convenient, but it is counter productive having a gaming HUB with everything and over a dozen zones with tumbleweeds.
Don’t forget the Quaggan friendly can of spicy Tuna (Krait brand for the spiciest tuna in a can)
Has anyone mentioned smokefield on the thief? I don’t want to read through all the posts, but I think it needs to be mentioned as a useful utility as a support.
Smoke Screen, the most under rated skill in the game. I love it. Blocks projectiles, lets you stealth or grant area stealth on demand and allows you to shoot through and blind targets. Works great with any ranged build, especially with pistol/pistol as it allows you to free up initiative every 24-30s as you wont need to use Bps.
I would be interested to see whether full P/V/T gear and trinkets would actually work with Thief. I’m currently using a mix of pvt, ppt and berserker gear for sword/dagger which is a solid direct damage with decent survival. Not as bursty as full zerk and not as elusive as full carrion, but the mix of toughness, vitality and stealth make me extremely hardy with high consistent damage without the total reliance on crit and crit damage or health and condition damage.
Taking a break isn’t gaming the system, It’s taking a break.
Yer can’ne have any pudding if ye don’t eat yer meat
So necro only zerg it is, time/date/BL?
Let’s do tomorrow 8pm pacific and TC BL since they had the great idea about necro clones.
Please provide screenshots as I will be out having a lovely day in the country for work.
ooh a necro zerg is a real good idea, it would probably melt my graphics card too.
Another good one would be all Norn Mesmer group with default looks using 3 clones at once.
Would a shirtless Norn spawn a group of equally hairy and shirtless clones?!!
Ack! My eyes! You can’t erase something like that
With bright red pointy beards of destruction quantised!

This is what I enjoy most about wvw, no scores or ratings, just my guild and my server working together to take a target then defend it for a bit. Keep it coming SoR!
This is why I love fighting TC (and PiNK) so much. No animosity just good old fashioned brawlers. I’ve never had a fight against PiNk i didn’t enjoy
Simple fact. When things got rough for SoR, we didn’t bail en mass. We learned to respect each other, especially a solid core of our commanders, and we learned a lot about the strengths and weaknesses of our various guilds and how to turn that to our advantage. There are legitimate questions and concerns about the character of the guilds that have joined us en mass, how they will fit in with our style of play, and especially will they stick it out when the going gets rough. In a nutshell, if they want our respect they are going to have to earn it.
I’ve remained unusually silent this week as I am aware of the feelings and emotions running high from each of the servers and as I respect all 3, I didn’t want to cause any undue heartache. However this post rubs me wrong in every way possible, and I feel the need to address it.
Let me start out by saying that the decision to leave SBI was NOT an easy decision for ANY guild involved. We had meetings after meetings, and discussed matters round the clock, and literally exhausted every possible scenario before coming to the conclusion of what was best for each of us and our respective guilds. The name of this game is Guild Wars 2, not server wars, and it was either transition to a new server, and keep our guilds active, or stay ‘loyal’ and lose the entire guild to attrition and burnout. Stormbluff Isle was an amazing server full of amazing people, and during our prime, we were unmatched by few. Since the decision of many well known guilds to leave SBI was universally shocking, and tantamount to the shot heard round the world, I understand the mixed feelings by many, but to say that SBI players are en mass bailers, and are going to have to work double time to earn respect from one player because we were recruited to bolster a community that we all agreed was amazing, and would enjoy playing for tremendously. I will not apologize for this, nor will any guild that transferred to another server to better themselves, or that server. Neither will I stand by and be put on trial because you are unhappy new players came to your server. We have been welcomed by the biggest and best guilds SOR has to offer, and have enjoyed ourselves getting to know your players, and playstyles, and can honestly say we have been revitalized by the friendly and helpful atmosphere shown to us so far. I understand that your bitter opinion and standoffishness does not convey the feelings of the entire server, but the continued digs at those of us that worked our collective kittens off day in and day out are uncalled for and breed a divide on us vs them mentality. SOR is a community, and we are part of it. The sooner you accept that , the sooner we can move forward to making this a place that welcomes anyone, no matter where they came from, and an unstoppable force in WVW. Please, for the sake of the community, stop treating those people that made the hardest decision of their ingame lives, as if we are second class citizens. Just because we were soldiers in another country doesn’t make us better or worse than your soldiers. My two cents.
CG
Well said. Welcome the new guys with open arms and open minds.
I would like to second this and welcome all of our new soldiers and commanders regardless of where they are from. I look forward to getting to know each of you and fighting alongside you regardless of where we end up in the rankings. I am also looking forward to playing with all of our new oceanics over the coming weeks, feel free to message me in game for some borderland shenanigans
elementalists have the same base health and LOWER armour than a thief not to mention any non bunker ele is more squishy than a thief and deals far far lower damage. Yet people and in particular thieves that i come across complain about eles having an escape mechanism.
Actual armour type means very little in GW2. Any profession can have 3k armour with the right gear/traits. Right now I’m running a thief build with. 21k health, 2.6k Armour and 1.2k Condition damage. My guardian doesn’t even have that much health/armour with full magi’s gear.
And more people quit Gw2 because of culling and thieves.............
Easy mode is playing a thief in WvW. It’s like playing a single player game on easy difficulty.
Go play a thief in PvE then talk.
Actually, go and play in WvW then talk. The only people that truly complain about thieves have never played one for a significant amount of time in WvW. When I get bored of being indestructible on my Guardian, I play my thief to remind me that you can actually die when you make a mistake.
GJ on the tower cap btw. Next challenge: Two man keep take (I suggest bay, it’s easier)
I’d LOVE them to spend time on the BLs, but sadly their first love is EB. I think they’d wreak havoc on the BLs tho.
It’s definitely achievable. Myself and two others stole Bay keep and briar from SBI a couple of nights ago. We did it the old fashioned way with catapults but there were still two defenders inside.
Tried it against TC last night on valley keep but a Thief/DDEle combo kept us from getting through. That was when we decided to have a little stand off in pangloss for lulz.
