I’d say it’s never fair when someone dc’s during a match. I think A-Net mentioned somewhere that the points are still counted in the backgrund but set to “0”, or they gonna add this in the future.

Do you really need a carrot on a stick?
Fun, Competitiveness and striving to be nr. 1 is not enough? You REALLY need a materialistic incentive?

Even A-Net said that “symbols of prestige” are required to create the highest possible competitiveness. A progression is needed to bring the player to invest time into the game. This was the case in GW1 and should be the same in GW2.

We have ranks, leaderboards and the c-title /gladiator-title at the moment.
The problem here is that ranks doesn’t tell you anything about a player, just how long he played in hotjoin.
C-Title was accomplished after a week and leaderboards are not ingame nor are they seperated into guild/teams or soloQ/premades.

Basically we have no indicator of skill after 8 months of release. And besides the leaderboards I feel no progression of the game.

I’m just saying how it is and how many many other ppl feel the same. As much as I like the game, and I really do, I feel not rewarded for playing it. Means not I’m having no fun.

Can we stop already with that E-Sport obsession?

Instead of indulging in that horrible horrible word, can we, the community, the developers and the advertisers, focus on making a “simple” competitive game?

It’s so much more important to have:

- a well structured competition with working solo ladder, team ladder, seasons and tournaments,

- a much smoother learning curve including better info on what killed you, real tutorials on how builds work and what classes do what and cleaner team fights,

- An interserver-mist-wide party chat with language separation

- an overall polished game with mechanics, combat, balance and map design pushed to its perfection.

If Anet can achieve this and the pvp community grows to be truly alive, then and only then can we maybe consider the possibility of perhaps going E-Sport.

But before that we should just forget about that word.

And Anet’s marketing team needs to realise that it’s not enough to advertise a game as e-sport to make one… There’s a reason why no MMO ever went E-Sport and that if gw1 went closer to it than anyone else it’s because it was a CORPG developed with pvp as the focus.

As much as I like Custom Arenas and Spectator Mode: But where is the incentive to play here? I mean there is nothing new, just some tweaks and toggles you can change.

The umpcoming patch is a bit overhyped, due to no changes in the incentive and progression-feeling for the playerbase. I hope the lack of titles and a real rank-progression will be fixed this year.

The titles/ranks are optional and purely cosmetic. They also had this in gw1. I don’t mind. This isn’t grind, it’s a goal you set for yourself or it’s fluff while you play pvp.

It took 6 years in GW1 for one player to get the dragon emote.

HA was way more competitive and harder to farm rank than hotjoin is nowadays.
Hotjoin is more of a “who has more time and no job” thing. In HA you could possibly play it 24/7, but without being good and having a good team, there wasn’t a chance to actually get the dragon.
So yes GW2 ranks are cosmetics, and no GW1 rank weren’t cosmetics.

thats the another way how to look at it… if high rating matches would give MUCH more rank points, it would be ok…

e.g. if a team plays on rating XXXX (players with percentile 90%+), they would get 10x amount of rank points, it would passively increase the rank value in terms of skill

Yep, I targeted on the totally broken hotjoin-rank-farming philosophy from A-Net.
Progressive rewards in terms of winning strikes (HA-reward-system from GW1) would be also a good way.

All they have to do is what league did in normal queue.

For matchmaking purposes provide an ELO bump to premade teams. This should bump up the full premades out of soloqueue territory while allowing premades vs soloqueue to happen, but the soloqueue players would be much better overall as individuals over the premade queue bringing the win chance to an even 50%.

Made up numbers go:
Player 1a elo 1200
player 2a elo 1300
player 3a elo 1100
player 4a elo 1150
player 5a elo 1000
Team A elo: 5750 * 1.20 (premade) new Team A elo: 6900

then team A would be matched against a team with a total of roughly 6900 elo.

The system would automatically adjust, recording win/loss rates based on how the teams are matched, if a 20% rating boost for premade teams isn’t enough it will automatically up that until match made games are roughly 50/50.

It solves the problem while not splitting the queues. Everyone wins because you as a player are assured that you have a fair chance to win.

This game is really fast paced and has more to do with proper communication than rough skill. I don’t like to pair up randoms and premades. And I wanna actually see a guild-ladder in the future, this would mean they have to split the qeues.

And guild ladders would be huge, I know several guilds that wouldn’t be able to stand not being top 10 on the ladder. That in itself would increase interest in sPvP

1. split soloQ and premades ingame and on leaderboards
2. bring incentives to play on a competitive level (nowadays it’s just about winning or loosing and some little effect on the leaderboard, which noone really cares about).
3. Introduce a guild-ladder
4. Introduce the spectator mode for observing top-guilds/teams
5. Introduce daily/weekly/monthly tournaments
6. Bring titles and other cosmetics to top-players (prestige-symbols). So they finally get some skill-indicator (rank, c-title = wtf have you done with this?)

First thing to do: Balance Classes
Second thing: Bring more utilities und build-variation.
Third thing: Add new Classes.

A new class likely won’t happen until the first game expansion, and hopefully by the time they even start talking about an expansion… Those first two things will be fixed (plus some major bugs).

I would love a Paragon-related class to be added. I was just thinking the other day that we do need one more heavy armor class, and I think this is a great suggestion.

Are you aware of the Title “Champion-Paragon / Paragon”?
It’s a PvP-Title for Guardians. As in my eyes guardians are allready a mixture of Monks and Paragons, this won’t likely to happen.

Only if they implement it now or at least start recording the title track now. One of my biggest complaints with GW1 that caused me to quit for about a year was the non-retro active Champ Titles they introduced long after release. I spent 4 or 5 nights a week doing GvG in the top 25 for months. Made the season playoff NA back to back. Our core team quit and we could never find valid replacements for them. Champ titles were introduced and none of my accomplishments in GvG counted towards the titles. One of the most frustrating things I’ve ever experienced in a video game.

Ye, it should be done at latest, when the leaderboards getting visible. The thing that keeps ppl playing games like this is the progression behind it. And at the moment there is no visible progression. Leaderboards I can’t take srs till they are stabile and the Rank-System from 1-80 is something, that doesn’t matter due to hotjoin.

with the way mmr is working right now it wont work, yesterday i was in the 90% and 5 losses in a row and i was at 55%…

The devs announced that the Leaderboard needs some time to stabilize. I agree, the fluctuations are bigger at the moment. Hope this will fix itself in a month.

A lot of persons allrdy brought up to implement the old Champion-Titles from GW1 into GW2, which could be achieved above a certain rating (1.200+ Rating).

In the situation nowadays we have two problems:
Ranks (1-80) are more an indicator of how long you played and not how skilled you actually are.

The actual Champion-Titles in GW2 are just an indicator that you won a tournament 150 times with a certain class.

To fix this and give a incentive to be “good” (and also having a prestige-symbol as a top-player), I’d like to bring up a new Title-Format for PvP.

Naturally this suggestion makes only sense if paired with the new Leaderboard-Ratings (when they are visible for players):

Example: If YOU are above a certain Rating and win against a team which is also above this certain rating, you would get a point added to the New-Title. (The title should be account-based and not class-based)
Also the title should have several Rank-Steps, like e.g. the Gladiator-Title.

Surely this affects not everyone (casual players, soloQuers), but would be a good motivation to give an incentive to team-up with other ppl and bring back the competition, which this game really is lacking of.
In a second step, if SoloQ and PremadeQ are seperated in the game and on leaderboards, this could be also implemented for the Solo-Que-Top-Players.

Problems:
-ppl that aren’t that ambitious or haven’t that much time are surely disadvantaged.
-how can the game decide if a team, as every single player, is above this rating.

Your opinion on that?

Before HGH Engis, ppl used to focus other targets, which did more dmg.
Since HGH became very strong, especially in teamfights, the tendation is to focus engineer instead.
I actually like HGH (even when they need some little tweaks), because they are able to reduce the ability to bunker a point. As I play guardian I know how annoying engis are and if not paying attention, you drop pretty fast (for a bunker).

What I don’t like is the additional AoE in tPvP, which increased with the HGH-Build.
Before AoE dmg came especiall from necros and in certain ways from mesmer/ele. For me it was fine. Nowaday the focus relies on AoE.
In the case of Conquest it’s not a good direction to go. (well, A-Net allrdy mentioned they wanna ton down AoE, question is when this will happen)

Result: If you loose a mid-fight and respawn you have nothing on CD, while pushing mid again or far. The defending team though lacks of important skills (mostly elites) and will for sure loose.
So being better in a teamfights doesn’t matter anymore, because if you win the teamfights the other team will just crush you after respawn.

Where do we get a free condition removal? NOWHERE. Just like you need to trait for it with 10 in Shadow’s Embrace, we need to trait with it with 10 in water. You saying we get it for free shows how little you know about our class…

Which class in the game can field 3 stun breaker utilities and get at the same time awesome condition removal in the process? All that in a package where you only need a single trait to reduce all 3 of your utilities CD by 20%.

I’d say shouts on guardian, though you have only 2 stunbreakers. But guardians aren’t able to stack might that good with doing dmg in the meantime, also they lack of an escape mechanic. So here you go.

I’d like to see:

-disable down-state or make every class having the same downstate (chosen from one class)

-being able to adjust intro page, which nowadays explains the map (for eg your custom server is paid in rotation by guildmembers. You could post in there TS dates / homepage / other interesting stuff) This would be similar to the Servers of Counter-Strike.

-choose the name of your custom server (this is intened allrdy I think)

-Include special-sound-packs (similar to other games)

-Owners of the Server being able to join into the Server even if it’s full.

i remember someone (karl, J & J) who has mentioned somewhere (SotG) that in one patch (march 26th) there will be somewhat (boonhate) against something (bunker ele/guard)

im wandering why everybody – even the QQ community – forgot about it.
maybe we can get a dev reply on boonhate? (feels kind of dreaming away…)

Because Boon-hat for me personally has no priority and I think for A-Net too.
Second reason is because there are much bigger issues at the moment, as incentive, balance, custom-arenas, observ-mode, bigger tournaments etc. etc.

The list is endless….

but don’t you think, if addressed right, boon hate could counter eles at least a little bit?
and eles are definitely an issue tbh

frenzy and bullscharge cd reduced to 20 seconds and frenzy no longer applys 50% more damage debuff, hundred blades gives invulnerability and tranfers 1 condition on hit, the effect of cripple and chill on warriors gap closers is 50% less effective.
OR bind frenzy and bullscharge into 1 elite skill on a 45 sec cd like basilisk venom. that would free up space for warrior to use immobilizers in the utilities.

warrior and ele’s banners and conjured weapons now work like engis kits.

engis turrets are now on a remote control and follow the engie wherever he goes.

Sigil of battle gives 2 stacks of might instead of 3 on a 25 sec cd instead of 20.

necros teleport minion is now an instant cast.

nerf on ele healing outside bunker spec. rearrage of eles traits, put powerful traits further in the trait line.

Rest i want/expect is just small changes to traits weapon skills to make other builds viable for all classes.

I can take almost none of that seriously.

care to elaborate? i know its hard to use your brain and give an actual opinion when its so much easier to say “lol thats stupid” and be done with it, but please try.

Let me try: Invulnerability during 100b = nearly 3 secs on a 8 sec cooldown. Imagine that.
Frenzy/Bulls recharge lower to 20s plus exclude +50% dmg incoming = double the amount of 100b combos, while the 100b can’t be countered due to invul. and remove about 5-8 conditions. Imagine that if you hit more than a person.

The healing of an ele is fine, the problem here relies on the strong traitlines (water/arcana).

Conjured weapons like kits: Even more abilities for eles. Imagine Conjure Earth shield. Invul (second mistform), Pull (like mesmers focus), daze, cripple. If they behaving like kits it will be instant. This creates even more bunkerish eles.

Engi Turrets on remote-control: Activate Supply Crate and you create one of the most powerfull elite-skillz. Beside that grenadier is allrdy strong. Imagine that.

Sigil of Battle: Well this can be done or not. It has not really a big impact.

This seems to be a big issue on NA-Servers. In the high-end pvp of EU you rarely face more than 2 eles in a team. (Agree on little tweaks to bring them down a bit)

I don’t get why ppl still considering i-leap / blurred / shatter as a good combo. It’s the easiest and most obvious burst. Even bad eles dodge it because of vigor and energy-sigil. If a ele has at least some knowledge of his own class and of the core mechanics of mesmers, it’s impossible to die.

had a ranger and its pet under 20+ stacks of Bleed hitting 147 per tick, and pet ressed like I wasn’t there :[ and im pretty sure the pet was at 0hp

It’s more aboutt all the bugs that ruining the game. One of that is the pet-rezz bug. I mean after 8 months, things like this should be working properly. same with portal bugs.

Its very strange coming this from a player that was in the first place of the leaderboards..Its not a bug,the pet comes and rezz us.We are a pet class but in downed state we should be petless?Thieves,Mesmers,Elementalist can avoid the first attempt of finish no matter what.The Lick Wounds its not up when you first become downed so you have plenty of time to finish a Ranger..
Only in underwater i accept it.It is a bug,sometimes even when pet is dead it keeps healing me

I talk more about the intrupt during licking wounds. Actually it shouldn’t restart after that. Sometimes this happens. It’s just sad, that things which doesn’t work properly destroy the gameplay in general.

So burst damage decides the best 1v1 class? The only class which is as good in 1v1 as an elementalist is mesmer with bad mobility, bad sustain and bad aoe.

Hell, ive been beaten by a warrior in 1v1 once, he was not your typical 100b warrior. Ive been beaten by Eles, I have won from eles, Ive been beaten by Engineers and I have won from them, ivebeen beaten by every class in the game once and I have won from every class in the game.
Its not the class you play against that decides who is better, it is the player.

When a player push the class to the limit, the class is deciding about loosing or winning. On the same level a mesmer will never win against an ele, same with thief and guardian.

You sir, are too biased and illogical. Ofcourse a mesmer can win from an equally good ele. I have an ele friend who is much better than I am. But still, I manage to win often because he made a mistake and I took advantage of it.

You should complain less and practice more. Maybe then your QQ will stop.

I like your post. I never heard of you and if you win against an ele a 1v1 as a mesmer your friend is just meow kitten bad. I mean our guild-ele would face roll you. Second thing is, and now listen carefully: Eles are one of these classes that can even do faults and still win.

I never heard of you either so does that make you bad? No. Again. Dont make illogical assumptions like that. The keyboard warrior that you are doesnt proove anything about your guild ele, or about yourself. Ele is not the only class that can make lots of misstakes and still win.

Please tell me, how will you counter full time chaos armor on a mesmer? All my clones have retaliation + chaos armor. I will assume that you know what it does and about the glitch with protection or it was intentional I dont know.

I will still write down what it does: Chaos armor only gives you protection on trigger and not when hit, and confusion has the highest chance to trigger when hit.

Eles have lots of AOE so imagine hitting 3 clones and 1 player with chaos armor and retaliation, just imagine what that will do to an ele thats spamming his skills.

Sadly your build is not viable in a competitive environement like tournaments. Though you specced everthing for a 1v1, which this game is not based around. I doubt you even duel with portal and illusion of life.

Arcane thievary on ele once you’ve burned up his cantrips. Set up stun/daze or immbo, burst, GG.

In a 1v1 a good ele having at minimum constantly 1 cantrip ready. So I wouldn’t say GG. I mean it’s allrdy easy to dodge shatters. Not even gonna talk about competitive play (portal, illusion of life).

Not sure if serious… but just in case:

a semi bunker ele can dishout 3/4 k fire 3 and 4, 4/5k fire grab, 7 k churning earth….

A “semi bunker ele” whose main stat is power, and has ~50% +crit damage (glass canon level), can deal that kind of damage using long cooldown abilities (45 seconds on fire grab) on about one in three attempts against a glass canon who invested nothing in defense.

i dont think you can dismiss my arguments when your argument is a youtube video of a facepalm. maybe i exagerated on numbers(people tend to exagerate while argumenting) but even if its just 3k crit burning speed and 2k ring of fire 5 k churning earth its still too much aoe for a spec with great access to healing protective boons etc etc everything i already said.

The dmg is not the problem at all. If you take berzerker amulet you should do that amount of dmg. The problem relies more on the chain-traits. If you would reduce duration of boons about 20 – 30% this would allrdy have a significant effect on the class.

So burst damage decides the best 1v1 class? The only class which is as good in 1v1 as an elementalist is mesmer with bad mobility, bad sustain and bad aoe.
