Well then: A pet can destroy the treb solo, while the ranger is on the node. The pet can interupt orb-capping and buff-capping without the need of the ranger itself to be there. The ranger has high-survivability due to protection, regeneration and perma-dodging, while doing high dmg output. If fighting on the node a pet has a high-chance to hit the target actually. (even wihout cripple,chill)
The ranger lacks in teamfights due to no support or AoE-dmg. That’s why he never took the ele’s position.

I can understand your conserns for the leash range..Although everything you named comes with 1 build…BM,beastmaster+healing+toughness+cond dmg…This build it relies in pets doing dmg and its a single target build as you said..So ill ask you again.Why you want pets to be weak in a Pet focused build?Its like you asking for weak meditation skills in a meditation build….

Actually this tier-list should be splitted into sPvP (hotjoin/custom-servers) and tPvP. Because the builds vary for these sections. That’s why mesmer in sPvP has a higher state as in tPvP, just because of the utilities he’s forced to use (portal, IoL). Also necros are not able to show their real potential in sPvP due no organized teamfights.

I still don’t know why they didn’t force “focus” to be the bunker-spec weapon. I mean “dagger”??? makes no sense to me. The nerf of cleansing wave wasn’t actually a big deal for bunker-eles, as they aren’t spamming cantrips. Totally missed the target to lower down bunker-eles.

It’s not good to see a game just in the view of PvE only. And that’s what you did. If you would have played PvP from launch till now, you would see that the playerbase in gerneal is decreasing heavily. In PvE it’s pretty stabile. But that’s not the whole game.

What exactly is meant by “For games that impact the leaderboard, we won’t be allowing players to spectate directly” ? If this is just a system similar to Guild Wars 1 where the games are put on a delay so that they cannot be watched live then that’s fine but I really don’t think forcing people out of watching the highest level games unless they like a particular caster is a good way to foster the pvp community. I know you want to give a purpose to shoutcasters and attract viewers to them but I don’t think this is the way to do it.

Who will play rated matches when custom-arenas are out with shoutcasted-tournaments? I mean, leaderboards can’t be taken serious. So you will find the top-guilds anyway in these real-tournaments (not single round-crap)

There are 3 requirements for esports:

1) Balanced, competitive and polished to the extreme

2) Support and ease of access to watching replays, meaningful leaderboards, and a robust spectating mode which also encourages casting (see Starcraft)

3) Must actually be entertaining to watch for the audience. Of these 3, I believe GW2 lacks this the most, for these reasons:


Lack of pacing. From beginning to the end, pacing is the same stale point-holding throughout, and I’d dare to say that pacing is nonexistent. Despite secondary objectives and the more recent effort to create some sort of pacing (Foefire and Silent Storm), it still falls short from adequate. Compare this to the most successful esports such as

Starcraft, where the beginning gives time and breathing room for casters to provide information to the audience about the players/tournament/etc, proceedingly unfolds what plans and strategies each are building upon, and has an early/mid/late-game cycle.

Counter-Strike. The monetary aspect gives it much more depth than just a 1-life-per-round shooter. There are eco rounds, teams must take into account their economy, and rounds (and strategies) are not stagnant, but constantly fluctuating round-per-round and changing along with it.

Dota/LoL/Warcraft. Same reasons for Starcraft

Unclear actions happening and skills. From arbitrary signets floating above peoples’ heads, to skills with no animations, to invisible traits activating, to the many Warrior animations that all look very similar, to the screen filled with Ele particle effects, this all contributes to GW2 not being entertaining to watch, and quite possibly confusing for the audience to follow or casters to explain what’s happening.

The current game mode. Another ingredient for esport games, along with pacing, are suspense and “moments of awesomeness”. There will never be a GW2 equivalent of a brilliantly executed Starcraft strategy that completely turned the tables, a Dota wipe that won the game, the suspense of the last round of Counter-Strike with the scores 15-15, or the kill that won the round/game, none of that.

There is no window for individual players to shine. Poorly executed skills do not punish players. If a game was won 501-499, what would happen? People will not be astonished as in Counter-Strike, people cannot attribute that win to anything; it may even be attributed by many as luck. As someone else on the forums put it, the only possible game-changing play he can think of MIGHT be a well-placed Fear on a point that gives a few seconds advantage that would just so happen to win the game.

The entire point of pets is to cause confusion and be meat shields. The majority of pets do little or no damage and take up a utility slot (for necros).

Let’s put it this way… would you rather deal with a pet that deals little damage and has little utility or having the necro put down well of suffering/corruption. Or maybe you’d prefer that he use plague signet send all of the conditions you inflicted on him back onto you.

You should be thankful that people are using subpar skills (pets) against you. The moment they slot in a real skill, you’ll be back on here complaining about how OP they are.

Edit: I just want to point out that aoes/piercing attacks completely destroy any pet build since you can put all of the pet skills on cooldown at the same time.

A ranger would probably laugh at this. Tomorrow their pets get even more sustain

I’m pretty sure the devs in the SOTG said it only affected the Distortion effect from the F4 skill.

So if ele’s want to fully utilize rtl, they’re actually going to have to use it strategically, and effectively.

There is no deal. That’s the funny part.

Only class to get penalize for it???? Just make it the same for all other class then. No big deal right? Rush will be on a 40 sec CD if it misses. Infil Arrow will cost 12 init instead of 6 if it doesn blind anyone. etc

You forget the part where warrior skills are affected by chills and cripples, and the part where warrior doesn’t have any spec that has the best mobility in the game, best sustain, best team fight support, decent spike damage, best disengages in the game, aoe cleanses and heals.

You forget the part where warriors skills are not affected by immob (if spec for it) and with swiftness the range is actually 1450. Also, in WvW, the warrior has some of the best combat mobility, best sustain, best team fight support, best spike damage, mulitple ways to disengages, aoe instant rez, aoe cleanses and heals.

WvW is a different animal than s/tpvp. I get it. I just hate it that balancing is based on s/tpvp which is a tiny portion of the population and no consideration is given to PvE and WvW.

Reason for this is mabye: 3 dedicated PvP-devs. 50 dedicated WvW/PvE devs.
Read patch notes and tell me again that PvE and WvW gets no attention.

Because the buff when you use blurred frenzy is called “blur” and not distortion.

But IF bf does decap the point, the nerf would be hard BUT legit, since no one else can cap a point while being invul.

The devs said it only affects the f4 and I think that as long as the point doesn’t decap while using bf, the nerf is not that big. You still can have a full 4s distortion without letting the point fully decap.
But nevertheless rangers are already deffing close quite often.

I like the changes, ppl have to invent different setups. Interesting what will become new meta. Problem at the moment is there are just a few viable builds out there. If the update would took them out, the room for diversity gets even smaller than it allrdy is.
I still prefer buffing other things instead of completely taking out builds.

To the topic: I think the nerf of rtl is reasonable and will reduce the power of cantrip-eles, being able to kite so many times. Well done Karl.

Having 130 tournaments played since recorded for rating and being where he is, I just don’t think it’s the ideal position to make ~50posts in ~3days all about the same topic -> ele nerfs and how unplayable ele will be post patch.
Everyone is entitled to his opinion but there is no need to bring it back up in every second thread + making even more threads about the same.

I don’t usually do those comparisons but when I do they’re accurate.

But I thought you couldn’t craft the armor you get from match win chests? I’m assuming here that the orrian set is one you get from those chests so I’m not sure why slivers would help you get it quicker… i’m sure i’m missing something stupid :P

Every armor or weapon you get from a chest (rank-chest or tournament-chest) can be reproduced/forged in the mystic forge. Here is a list of the weapons and armors you can forge and how you can forge them (recipes).

What is the purpose of converting the mats?

Also, the drops you get from match reward chests – are they dependent on your glory rank? Or does everybody get the same chance at all gear?

Purpose of converting: Getting slivers through converting, which can be used to forge dyes (10 powder, 1 sliver, 1 consumable token, orb ). Dyes can be opened and used or selled after this.

Drops: independent, nothing to do with rank or something else. Everybody gets the same chance for everything.

So now they working under pressure to implement these futures for the rest of us. Imagine if custom arenas/spec-mode and leaderboards were there after 1 month of release. Would be a completely different game.

It’s not September anymore man, these kind of posts don’t fly. Mesmers pale in comparison to Eles, Guardians, Eng, and Rangers in sPvP. They’re not bad, but they’re not even close to top tier in this meta.

The only reason the mesmer is still played in tPvP is because of his utilities. The rest every other class can do a lot better.

PvP without downstate would result in an even more bunkerish-playstyle, as there is no acceptance to die. Thief would probably dissaper instantly from tPvP. Illusion of Life useless, many revive traits and abilities useless. So no, the depth of the actual state is claimed on the downstate.

I totally agree. Thats the main problem of Guild Wars 2. It has nothing to do with Guilds!!!
Give motivation to Guilds, this would be a huge boost. Everyone would love to have their own Guild Arena, and have Guild pvp Rankings. Solo Queing is what makes people leave this game.

I think owning and maintaining a server is what a guild would be able to do more efficiently than an individual. A collective gold bank is greater than that of one man… unless you play the market that is, in which case you are a one man guild.

Yep, this will happen later. It’s a step into the right direction for sure. But at the moment it’s hard to know all guilds out there, because there is not really an ingame-existing list of it. So you still have to find guilds on your level, which is really hard.

Why exactlly is it not acceptable for a company to try and earn money from her product? Of course they will try to make money, and of course it should be totally acceptable by everyone. No one creates a game so that you can play free!!

The problem with pvp is that it needs much more stuff , so that it gives motivation to all of us to play. Custum arenas is something nice, i just disagree with the top 50 players been able to create an arena at he beggining. Arenas should go to Guilds, so that Guild members can train and learn to play better.
My Guild would have like 20 more players playing tournaments if we had an arena to help them learn how to play.

Sadly “Guilds” are not in the focus of A-Net or not considered. We have individually seperated leaderboards, individual mmr, a not seperated soloQ, no guild-halls etc.
Also the philosophy of A-Net is to be casual-friendly, but even casuals don’t feel satisfied. SoloQueing is not funny if being stomped by premades etc. . And there is no incentive to create a guild, because a guild has no sense beside having a list of friends in a seperate window.

The example of your guild shows i could be right. The target to be casual-friendly has been missed and the hard-introduce and learning-curve makes it not easier to start with.

Exactly, after the patch you can observe Custom-Arena-Matches but no Tournaments. The reason behind this is the possible abuse of gaining an advantage through a third party member. So you could see where the teams are and what they are doing, and in the meantime telling it to participats of the match.

For sure A-Net has to implement a delayed observe-mode for Toprated-Tournaments. After the match is finished you can find it in a ingame-list. I think this will coming in the future.
