1 condi can kill you perfectly.
1 burn guardian can drop 16 stacks of burning on you, and that will kill you.

The “IMMEDIATELY” part is the thing that bothers me. There was no cast time difference between the time I came out of caf (in stealth, just removed condis) and the condis on me. Needs a very short immunity in my opinion, something akin to Rogues Cloak of Shadows in WoW. Nevermind, Im sure anet couldn’t get that right.

No one was around me.

It was almost like the condis never got fully removed.

I like that idea— More combo fields— yes please. Definitely could make things more interesting.

I can see the shots getting reflected back at me even with low graphics settings but I don’t see any reason we couldn’t have a ‘reflected’ message like the other messages we get.

I did some testing with a similar setup however I opted to use rune of the afflicted to boost bleed/poison duration while ignoring burning altogether. I also opted for Marksmanship as a third traitline, just due to the +25% power damage modifiers. I was also using Sylvan hound as the elite skill. All together, with full infusions I was reaching about 32k DPS on the golem, which is about 2k DPS behind the axe/torch setup.

So unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be very viable, especially since you need 100% flanking uptime to reach the best numbers.

2k dps less isn’t viable…..

Is that game breaking? Would you a be a complete liability now with that spec?

Well chokolata, you are quite right. Tho staff is a viable pick with the buff to sharpening stone. However, the #1 thing druid is lacking is trashcondis and Aoe condi pressure. That just makes necro or even warrior instantly 20x better.

Also @enderz I have been doin nothing else. Tho I’m still testing, but so far magis is proving once again to be able to sustain against the losing matchups of the new patch

I take it, that’s not the point and Magis leans the druid more to a full Support/Hold point build.

So far I feel pretty strong. There isn’t much burst but if someone is stupid enough to try and contest the point with me, and they can’t secure a quick kill, I can sit there all day long—- even in a 2v1, it feels strong for a time. Usually strong enough to hold till I get help or I choose it’s not worth to stay. -Just my opinion in a limited amount of play time.

Kappa- Liking sw/Dagger way better than Sw/Wh.
So much easier to hold a point with that extra evade.

I’m seeing more Revs and Mesmers than ever. The Revs are hitting really hard and the mesmers condis are nasty—-I don’t know whats up with Torment. I fought one mesmer from range, while another player engaged in melee—-I saw one clone/Phantasm die near me, next thing I know, my 21.5 Hp, drops to 11.5 and I have 7 stacks of Torment.

It happened so fast… I wasn’t even interested in the fight, passing by to another objective.

I can’t tell what has changed so dramatically that people are saying things like, Nobody can beat us 1v1 on point.

From first glance it looks like a nerf.

Anyone have any interesting builds to check out?

My guess, you play a sustain build and it takes forever to kill anything and you have to speed the vid up or zzz

Core guardian is pretty darn garbage is what it is. The only game mode where you actually want to use base Guardian is wvw with the stability sharing build, and that’s because F3 gets a lower cooldown and DH is entirely too selfish of a traitline.

Core ele is good only because scrapper is bad in pve. In pvp, core engi is not better than scrapper, but that’s true for most if not all professions, ranger included.

As for your edit 2, yes of course builds change depending on the game mode, that only means the class is adaptable and has build options. Except wvw zerg where they are mostly outshined by tempest aurashare, ranger+druid is meta is all game modes with multiple builds.

Raids are not a 4th game mode, it’s organized pve. Unorganized pve has no meta, so you might as well ignore it.

I don’t want to post a rant about druid because my argument is not that druid is too good for the game. I’m responding to a post that claims ranger have it so bad that an overhaul of the base class is needed.

What’s with all the talk about Core? Do you have the expansion? Are you playing on a Free account?

You realise you can only choose only 1 elite spec, right? Mesmer has to be chrono for alacrity, but warrior can use any spec or no spec and still do the PS stuff. When a base class does something, they can do it with all their specs which matters a lot for their viability and relevance.

Who suggested that an overhaul of the base class is needed?

The post title was “Anet should fix the ranger before expansion”. This has been requested before. It was warranted then, it’s warranted now.

All the classes have bugs that should be fixed.

Knowing Anet, it will just get covered up with another spec that will heavily change the way the class plays.

Accept it or not but fashion wars 2 is kinda end game of gw2. For moas or other pets i would agree with OP that new skins would cool and a Petreskin function for PvE would be sweet. But i would like to see skaal, skelk, windriders and the basilisk (as a drake) as new pets on the game.

I accept that I personally don’t give 2 kitty Katts about Skins.

If I did care about the fashion of a game, changing the color alone or a simple “Skin Change” wouldn’t do it for me.

Pretty much. Evade from the moment you press the button and throughout the whole animation, problem solved. Also, it would be the logical thing to do to the skill. When you want to evade something, you want it to happen NOW, not after half a second – react, not predict.

Anyone can agree to that, except of course for the Anet devs.

The “devs” might not admit it but in my opinion they are short handed.
They don’t have enough programmers to fix the issues that are already present.
They didn’t fix class mechanic problems before the last expansion and they won’t fix the issues already present in the coming expansion. They will just add on, like they have.

hamrolf rev can pull that build out because the insane dps it can bring.It’s like fighting a riffle warrior, if you get crits of 4,5k AA every second plus 15k every 2 seconds it is impossible for a ranger to have enough time to kill anything. But again justine knows it just he just wants everybody to go for the faceroll hamrev.

But of course hamlol rev can’t carry as much against a theeth or a perma block and stun guarrior.

I could turn certain attacks off.
I could tell the pet to wait in a certain area.

My biggest gripe with pets= the attacks not hitting and the long wind up to the F2.
Its not even that the target has to dodge, the target just has to move or move behind something….it doesn’t even have to be a ranged attack thats missing.

Pathing still sucks.

dunno bout most of your points, but all on board w/ 5 years an 1 mode. lik i sayd earlier, it just gets dull.

now i playing for honor (i kno, bad matchmaking, connectivity, p2win, its not an mmo, its only been out a month, etc etc) and so far as pvp goes, if i’m playing dominion (their ver of conquest) and i feel lik i’m on a bad streak, or i just not having fun, i can swap over to 2v2 or a different mode, get some fresh matchmaking, and enjoy it for a bit, until i get tired of it, and go back to another mode.

having multiple game modes really increases the drive to keep playing and helps it from getting dull

I don’t like condi on ranger. I’ve played traps and had a lot of fun but it’s not ideal, it’s a bit of a gimmick and it puts all your eggs in one basket.

Shortbow – Not a fan.

If you get condis you only have one way to remove them all of them. (coming out of avatar and one fremoved from your trap heal.) I’m not a fan of trap heal.

Traps kitten your survivability.
You’re not getting away from anyone without a staff and without a way to activate the smoke field from smokescale.

I went quickdraw in skirmishihng—it’s really nice if you learn how to use it. Great for dmg and great for escapes and repositioning.

Wilderness survival – Shared anguish. You aren’t going to have much in the way of stability. Being able to ignore a fear or a knockback is pretty huge in a fight.

Also— I removed the sbow and went for a sw/torch axe/dagger classic.

The heal-troll unguent. You’re fights will be longer and unless you’re fighting a class that can remove your condis constantly, you will come out on top.

You can see what I’ve done.
You might want to go for a condi dmg pet. The lynx and the birds are good for bleeds.

If you wanted to go beastmastery you could trait blinds and more into the build.

Many different ways to go.

That hesitation .5 second activation is stupid.

It would be amazing to use the ability and immediately react.
Also, I don’t understand why it’s there to begin with. Do other classes have similiar .5 second activation for movement abilities? Off the top of my head I can’t imagine any.

I think the three highest dps pets are still the tiger, smokescale and bristleback.

Especially lame when you cast strength of the pack (no CC is going to stop my pet)
Pop Sicem (40% movement speed) and still people just run away.

Condi rangers without traps don’t have any burst potential.

Condi rangers WITH traps lack all the utility they need to survive.
Even if a Ranger had full traps and 3 extra utility slots, it would not be OP. Amazing!

Too many classes just shrug off the condis, Warrior, Guard and Ele.

Funny thing you mention the frustration over resets. Someone partied up angry earlier this afternoon out in WvW. Some sPvP engineer running a similar playstyle which allowed them to get away or rest. Mind you, I personally don’t care – you play to win, right? S/He didn’t like me tossing siege on him once we did kill him ( ) fair enough, I didn’t have eggs or toilet paper so it had to do. Anyway they want to duel – ok, sure whatever. Guess what, I’m running a solo roaming sustain build and the lad can’t kill me so proceeds to do nothing but yell, say cheese build, what have you. People.

Melee Druid/rangers are rare and in my opinion one of the more difficult to play. So well done OP.

Unlike the engi and warrior, I like that Fox wanted to kill them. Oh he re-positioned himself plenty but he went right back in for the kill.

Melee Druids—- agree, not easy to play at all. Oh I’ve tried. It takes a level of finesse, I dont possess. Every time I see someone like Fox pull it off, I try with very limited success.

There are Ranger players that actually play something similar to the daze ranger on a higer level than I play my rankeds.
And Heavy petting ranger is actually quite fun to play and can be quite strong if you can use it and the enemy doesn’t expect the tiger to hit for more than 50% of their health.

But Ignoring all that, I just mentioned these non-meta builds to show that there is a tiny niche for these rarely used abilities. I think I made it quite clear in the post that I don’t think of these builds as anything close to the meta.

I love GS. Nothing hits harder. Most people in pvp do not expect the burst.

Wish the gs5 performed better but, I still love it.

I’ve played mes and ranger— Ranger MUCH longer, so I asked an expert. A friend of mine who has played Mes since release.

His explanation is, well, pretty simple. “The mesmer has so many attacks so quickly that the block doesn’t really matter. Mirror blade will cancel the block and everything else (all the clones will hit).”

Only ranged attacks will take multiple hits.

Obvious place to find some decent builds for ranger is dare I say, Metabattle.com

You can be viable in all games modes.
