There are only a few things I would do differently
1-Traveler runes instead of perplexity
2- energy sigils on weapons = clone on dodge

Would you say you’ve optimized the build ‘gear wise’?

Is there anything you’ve thought about doing or trying out? Any changes you haven’t yet experimented with?

Lastly, could you play this build highly defensive, more toughness etc?

I’ve been gone for a while. I come back and my spec is reset and it looks like Osicat is taking a break.

I haven’t kept up on changes and I curious if the build I am using is still viable in WvW.

Are there are any builds anyone might want to suggest that are similar=good damage, good survivability.

If your not familiar with Hidden cat, its a Pu Power-Based Phantasm build, I run it with Sword/Torch- Great Sword.

Before that I played Blackwater Pu—a condi pu build. Was fun, just didn’t seem like enough damage to finish anyone in a reasonable amount of time.

Too many elites play mesmer cry about things that do work— (PU) and too proud to admit the state of the class.

I really think a lot of you would rather win with a broken class.

One of you should of ran centaur runes with the mantra heal = shared speed buff. You would of cruised around that map no problem

I’ve used Sup Rune of the Centaur as a cheap replacement for Travelers runes for a while now.

It works great with Mantra of Recovery. In WvW while roaming, I put it on auto cast.

With auto cast on, my speed would refresh before I ran out— =constant speed.

But now, it only gives me 11 secs of running time. Although the 20 percent swiftness duration should bring that to 12.

So now, I run fast…run slow…run fast, run slow.

Has anyone else seen this? It didn’t do that to me before…

PU is mesmer best WVW build today. You can run it as a power build which is more fun but cond gives more survival and higher chance to win. A lot of ppl say it doesn’t involve any skill to play. Not true. It does. It just easier and faster to learn and it is better working today comparing to shatter or phat builds both of which require higher skill cap and experience.

There are downsides to playing Condi PU— people can and will just run from you.

I think it is a great learning build as it gives you time to observe the classes you are fighting against.

Condi pu imo plays better in small groups than it does solo.

Power PU— hidden cat (osicat build) hits like a truck and gives you more options against runners.

I can’t stand the zerg.

When you win, how did you contribute to the win?

When you die, what did the zerg do wrong?

There are too many people on coms to actually talk about anything funny or interesting.

Small groups is where its at. It’s where friends play together. It’s where PvP happens.

IMO zerglings don’t actually like PvP.

It has it’s strengths and weaknesses just like every other build. That’s why they are called “builds” there are plenty out there. I agree. The nicest thing about PU is the extra survivability. If your solo in WvW you will often be outnumbered.

And all the people who are “good” and running Shatter specs in WvW are not doing so alone. They run with a buff bot…a heal bot or both (looks at Joe).

Instead of pretending to know everything about both classes and blaming the game because you’re losing to something, maybe actually learn to play better and overcome the difficulties with your own abilities.

In general, thieves usually counter mesmers. That’s just the way it is. That doesn’t make it unfair. Mesmers usually counter other classes.

First part of your post you blame the player…and you knock this guy saying that he’s blaming the game…

and then it gets real good because you blame the game calling the thief a counter to mesmers.

I want to know what classes mesmers counter. I can have some pretty good fights vs thieves, guards and warriors. If they don’t run…or pull the plug on the game….

Going to have to give scepter a try after watching that. I run a very similar set up.

I guess that is an option, but I’m not really crazy about constantly having to channel and spam heals just in order to get swiftness. But I guess that is the fate of a mesmer in WvW.

How about the curtain pull? Does that have any sort of use in regards to crippling/pulling runners if you can get close enough? Remember, the main focus is preventing excessive running away tactics, stability+swiftness+regen spam, that kind of nonsense. I (usually) have others to help me spike.

I think that some incredible suggestions have already been made but I want to make clear, so you don’t misunderstand.

The whole point of going centaur/mantra is that it’s automatic.

I don’t have to use focus. I don’t have to constantly use the heal to get swiftness.

This is the important part = I set it on autocast and it will give me more than 10 secs of swiftness and cast again before my 33 percent swiftness is up.

That gives me a constant 33 percent swiftness to me and my allies. And it stacks.

Automatic. Easy.

Using mantra heal without using potions constantly is far better.

I shell out no money for tonics. I don’t have to click anything. It’s automatic speed…consistently!

Focus is there for one main reason: On-demand swiftness. I don’t have 100+ gold to shell out for traveler runes or some nonsense and speed runes are too defensive.
Another benefit is being able to swift party members.

I ctrl Right click it and it’s auto cast. It gives a constant speed buff= no down time. The focus will have down time. This way has none.

Unless you have other arguments for why you love focus….

The only downside, you won’t have a big heal on demand.

What a condescending point of view. You can make the “crutch” argument for any defensive ability or trait. PU really only shines in duels and WvW roaming, 90% of which is dominated by thieves and warriors. I happen to enjoy duels and roaming. Sorry, but I don’t feel like my “gw2 honor” has been compromised when I’m now able to compete with my opponents. When I play PvE, PvP or zerg WvW I don’t trait PU because it’s not useful for those game modes. If it makes you feel better about yourself to play without PU then go for it, but it’s a pretty arrogant mindset to assume PU users are inferior players. PU is a tool to be used, look at osicat – he plays PU, has superior map awareness, understands smart dodging, links weapon skills together effectively, shatters. How can you argue that he’s not using the profession to its fullest potential?

And all this talk about the glory days of when people had respect for mesmers because they played builds which required skill is nonsense. Players of other professions have always complained about mesmers because they’re inherently confusing to fight against.

I enjoyed both builds and they are both solid.

Osicats Hiddencat is a Power/Crit based PU build with Great sword, Sword/Torch.

Natsu’s Blackwater is a Condition based PU build with Staff +Scepter/Torch.

Natsu’s is the more tankier of the two builds. Osicat’s does much more burst.

Osicat uses Might Runes on weapons= for fat stacks of might
Natsu’s uses Energy on Swap Runes =works well for clone on dodge for loads of clone generation.

My personal suggestion…

Don’t discriminate.
Try them both.

I have a question—-

I haven’t played shatter spec as much as some of you, but it seems to me, that compared to other builds—-the damage doesn’t make up for it’s weaknesses.

Am I wrong?

-I generally believe that two things happen in outnumbered fights, the Player regardless of class is very skilled(emphasis on very)—-and the opponents are not.

Both of you are so wrong… 1vX only happens if the X is bad. 1player against multiple players of the same skill level CANNOT win. It defies simple logic.

Because of that any profession can easily 1vX. Some professions have it easier than others, either through target drops, mobility, or active defense. Warrior, mesmer, engi, and thief are the best at this, but that doesn’t mean others still can’t.

This is directed at you shadow, but have you ever played an engineer? No? Theyre top tier in pvp, and one of the most popular roaming professions. Their bomb/TK/rocketboots condi build is extremely effective at 1vX and gets better the more you use it. Dont talk about things you have no clue about.

I don’t do Spvp because its less fun than small skirmish WvW.

I didn’t say a mesmer could not 1v3.
I didn’t once say engi’s are bad or that they can’t ever 1v3.

However, I do have a hard time believing a skilled engineer can face 3 skilled and win.
IF you believe they can, by that reasoning, engi’s are op, nerf.

@ossicat Simply put, I don’t have the time for fractals. I know pyro is gonna bust my chops for this. WvW takes a lot of time as is. I would rather spend my time doing something I enjoy (WvW) rather than doing something I don’t (fractals) just so I can be better equipped at something I enjoy.

@pyro If you are doing that combo, how do you generate you clones to have 2 images out already? Mirror images?

@pyro, how do you stand being soooo slow? ie-No traveler runes/focus speed doesn’t last that long etc.

Been running the blackwater build for a while now. Had fun, want something different….more bursty.

This looks like it might fit the bill.
