You know what they’re all ignoring? Neutral mobs.
A lot of times during zerg runs and trying to be “sneaky” with a LOT of people asking to not touch anything in the way, I’ve seen people dragging mobs inside the zerg.
I was convinced that they were either morons or spies trying to ruin the move. I know the truth now, thank you.
A couple of months ago I was able to do 1g per 2 hours, running at least 2 JP everyday for blueprints, and donating 20-30 for upgrades.
Now I’m nowhere near that. The drops are junk (I freaking hate spikes, seriously) and I seem to get mostly AC and ballistas from the JP, so I have to spend money/badges for everything else.
Plus it’s completely true that if you don’t drop siege, probably no one else will, they will just stand there, trying to dps a reinforced gate.
I’m just gonna use the thread to show my respect to some commanders I admire ( and not to trash talk the ones I don’t)
My top 3:
[TW] Indo, first real commander Jade Quarry had (IMO of course :p). Really creative and fun to follow around. I now see guilds trying out things that he did 5 months ago (like cough placing catas at bay’s watergate cough).
[FIRE] Agress. One really cool guy, he was able to coordinate large groups of guildies and pugs together, and he was extremely effective in the battlefield. Too bad I came back from my finals and he was gone :C
[ESOL] Rawnoodles, now [EMP]. I remember following him around with a bunch of people in the very beggining and he only needed a LFG icon over his head to make that happen. Nowadays I would say he’s the most dedicated commander we have in the borderlands.
I would also add [KL] Velkeri. He’s the type of commander that does the dirty work like flipping supply camps, building siege, scorting yaks, upgrading stuff, and he always knew when to pin off. I wish we had more commanders like him to really promote teamplay and not just zerging around.
I love how you don’t have a commander icon and just use a target icon. Best way to keep zergers away.
I absolutely enjoyed it, and seing a small organized guild killing twice their numbers makes me believe that maybe WvW is not ALL about numbers after all.

Of course doing it 500+ times would be extreme, and it’d certanly involve some kind of glitching to get that many tokens.
Buf for example, between my brother and I (we share account) we have a full bank slot only to save AC, TA and CoE tokens we don’t really need. Would it be exploiting if we use them to get a profit?
It’d be lame if it’s considered as an exploit. It takes way more time and effort than buying 2k of any mat and selling it at a higher price.
I believe the quickness boost is only applied if you are in combat, could be wrong though that is just what I have observed.
You are right, I forgot pointing this out. Quickening Zephyr will grant quickness even if you are out of combat, let’s say, you wanna harvest a node fast, you pop QZ, and it you do it twice as fast. But quickness from swapping pets only works if you are in combat!
I really want you guys to succeed in T1 so we can have a nice 1vs1vs1 match, even tho I’ll miss SBI.
Yeap if JQ win then its a fair 1vs1vs1 but if any OTHER SERVER than JQ is winning than it must be some 2vs1 conspiracy theory. Dont worry mate BG will have sweet revenge to JQ next week and surely wont let SoS get away so easily
What the hell are you talking about? I meant that I prefer having a strong 3rd team in T1 than having SBI as is it right now, because we don’t have the numbers to 1vs1 against SoS.
I wish you guys good luck, otherwise it will end up with you trying to steal points from us to stay in T1, and we don’t want that.

I find it funny that you kinda mock about people imitating this technic, because you not only made a post about how to use guard for this porpose, but also mention “my videos” in most of your posts, and you even have the youtube link in your signature.

I use it allllll the time and never had a problem, but I haven’t used birds for a while now so I don’t know if there’s any issue with those particular pets.
If you’re also lacking in Oceanic coverage, you will love Tier 2! SoR and TC are perfect matches for you.
I’ll envy SBI if they go down because they’ll have the chance to fight SoR and TC u.u
Should Rangers even be able to use their Wolf’s 2 sec fear while in downed state, in the first place? They cannot use any other pet skill while downed, but somehow the wolf pet is exempt from game mechanic balance, apparently.
OMG this is hilarious. Please do some research before posting things like this. Every F2 (special pet skill) works while downed, if it’s not on cooldown. You can even swap pets hitting F4, so I usually use my #2 to interrupt the first stomp attempt, then use F2 on my wolf for the 2nd (it has a 2s cast time btw) and then swap to my krytan lovely hund wich inmediatly knocks down for the 3th attempt.
Of course if the player knows anything about the ranger class this doesn’t work 99% of the time.

Ehecatl, you really make sense in some points, but please don’t ignore that most zergsurfers/pugs don’t really care about support and teamplay, they zerg because it’s fun, and they have minimun organization.
So when I complain about the zerg mind “if it’s red, it’s dead”, I’m talking about the “free xp, karma and badges!!!” mind, not about organized guilds. When I used to see 30 WM tags together I knew we were about to get screwed, because they didn’t break the zerg to chase a single guy, they were organized as hell, and they did what needed to be done. I respect that way more than any duel.
But it’s not true that teammates usually jump in to really help, and if they do, they stop attacking after you say “we are dueling”. Most people jump in because it’s an easy 2vs1, and the enemy is probably low on health and with cooldowns.
Jknifer A few guildies roaming your spawn is not a duel group, it’s a gank group.

And not just pets, mobs too, at least in WvW, otherwise remove them completely.
I have only had a few “kitten this game” moments, and most of them where after fighting a p/d thief in WvW. Not only my pet stands still everytime he cloaks and won’t attack him when he appears, but EVERY single mob around aggro me…ONLY.
So I have one brain-dead pet, 5 drakes/bears/wolves biting my kitten (thank you Anet, they can hit moving targets now) and a 80% time invisible enemy. Really?
I know you can at least make our pets keep aggro so they automatically start attacking the thief as soon as he comes out of stealth.
But what about mobs? Is this really supposed to be like this? It is impossible to fight a p/d thief if there are red mobs around.
I agree it is pointless but I enjoy doing it and I am simply saying that there isn’t any logic when people ruin one because they think they are pointless and a waste of time.
I love how everyone avoid talking about that fact. And I’m shocked by how many people openly admit “WvW = no 1vs1, I see red, I kill”.
Because well, this is the thing. Engaging a fight “because it’s red” is what duelists do. The difference is that they do it when they are on their own and they see 1-2 enemies, not when they are with 10, 20 or 30 other people and they see one random enemy.
The “I see red -> I kill” has nothing to do with WvW teamwork. I can’t even remember how many times a commander has lost half his zerg while asking desperately on TS “Please guys, don’t chase singles, we are moving to xxxx, don’t break the zerg!” and puff, 20 people just disband chasing an up-leveled enemy hoping to get their shinny loot bag.
So no, most people don’t respect duels because they have fun killing an enemy with 10 other people, and they wouldn’t “I see red, I kill” if they were on their own.
And for people saying “dueling is a waste of time, there’s a war going on”, are you serious? 80% of the people are in WvW to zerg, no matter where or why, farm badges and level alts, and you worry about the 1% that goes around looking for duels? There are more spots taken by JP farmers, afk players or even people at the freaking crafting stations. But you rage against duelist, why? Maybe afk people or crafters don’t make you feel a “worse” player.
Duelists are not better players for WvW, a zerg is 10000000 times more useful. But most people who complain about how lame duelists are have never in their play-time scorted a yak, so w/e.
- Remove JP badges/blueprints from WvW (drops from kills too). They are given as a daily reward after:
Caping 2 supply camps
Caping 1 enemy defensive structure
Caping 2 quaggans/ogres/sentries etc
Reviving 10 teammates
Killing 10 Enemies
Spending 30 supply (repairing and building)
It’s not much because I’m keeping in mind all casual players, but it will push PvE grinders to go through actual WvW to get their legendaries. And it will stop blueprint farming via mesmer portals.
- Improve the outmanned buff so it really benefits the servers with less numbers, and make it BIG. Maybe a +% to all stats depending on how outmanned a server is (considering the most populated server to make the maths)
This would stop cross NA-EU zones transfer to have the “night crew” advange. And people would be encouraged to play against servers with equal prime times.
- Server transfer are paid (10g/500 gems maybe) and last 1 month. You cannot transfer to a high populated server.
- Remove rewards for standing in circles during cap. To win any event you should do ENOGH damage (to supervisors at camps, guads at sentries, champs at towers/keeps).
This will stop exp-farming zergs and people will be pushed to PvE to level their chars.
- Give options in a map tab allowing to toggle on/off:
See guild (yellow dots on map)
See squad
Any commander icon
Sometimes we have 6 commanders on the same borderland and it gets really annoying!
- Reduce mesmer portal cap to 5
If any zerg wanna portal bomb they will need more mesmers same if there’s a mesmer hidding in a keep, the server will need to port in more mesmers after getting 20 people in. Not a big deal, but it’s fair since all AoE/heals were reduce to 5.
And I would take it farther and say: After ONE golem uses a portal, it dissapears. So if you wanna port 5-8 golems through the map, you better have a nice mesmer team.
Edit: Only three easy improvements weren’t enough for me :p

Duels against bunker engies at sPvP are really fun, don’t know why I don’t see many of those in WvW.
All of these comments about “wasting everyone’s time” by dueling disappoint me.
God forbid we sacrifice a whopping 10 more points to doing something fun in WvW that doesn’t involve zerging or camp flipping.

And PLEASE people, have some decency and stop saying you don’t duel or you interfere any duel you see because duels are useless in WvW. We ALL know you don’t duel because you don’t know how, and you interfere because it’s a safe 1vs2+ situation = free badge.
Of course some of you may be that guy who run supply, scort yaks, flip camps before the tick and quaggs constantly, repair walls and gates, spend 15 min sweeping for mesmers after caping a keep, throw blueprints when needed, scout to send intel and stuff like that. But we ALL know that most of you are not. And I know because I spend most of my time at WvW doing those things, and VERY few people are with me.
So really, stop trying to fool anyone with the “duels are useless, go sPvP”.
After spending 20 minutes running supply to siege a keep up, of curse I feel free to duel if I see an enemy willing to.
That’s way more fun to me that running in a zerg to level my alts or farm badges and karma for my legendary.
Oh, and most sPvP hot joins are a glory grind fests, at less you join an empty server. But if I did that, I wouldn’t be able to do all the other stuff I do in WvW.
You think duelers stomp each other? Why would they do that? The idea is to fight over and over improving your strategy vs theirs. you learn so much more about other classes vs your class this way.
Don’t bother. These selft-proclaimed WvW team-players don’t even know what a duel is : p

I’d love to be able to use runes of undead and get the full benefit from barbed precision,
I did the maths and i concluded that the extra second on barbed precision exceed the +200 condition damage from the runes on most real scenarios, (if you are able to stack 20 bleedings then the runes are the best choose),
a side from the reanimator fix, pretty much all you asked is nonsense which will never get attention, so go a head ask as much as you want…

You want precision as a condition necro to stack bleeding as fast as you can to match other classes,
Remember that’s our biggest weak as condition class it’s that we stack conditions too slow due our eternal cast times, and our biggest strength it’s the capability to spread them easily and our high resistance,
In my opinion precision above 45% is a must for us, and the same goes to condition duration, we need 100% to benefit from the extra 130 damage from barbed precision and terror,
Note aside, to increase your direct damage 130 points with a scepter you need to invest a lot of points of power, that’s one of the reasons to avoid hybrid necros,

Actually, main-hand dagger scales well with power. The downside is it scales horribly with condition damage because it doesn’t have any conditions.
Scepter scales well with condition damage, but its coefficient for power is really low (about 10 percent).

1) Condition duration shared with ANYTHING except power, (the whole tree is useless for us and condition duration is really hard to get),
*this is the most important, i can bleed and fear up to 100%, but with a ineffective combination of runes loosing a lot of condition damage, furthermore it’s imposible to reach 100% in spvp,
2) At least one trait to increase condition damage 5%, (the last minor trait on the second tree is useless too, maybe this one could be replaced with this?)
3) No minor traits related to minions on the third tree
And that’s all… i’m asking too much? This changes would take months or endanger the whole balance of the game destroying other necromancer builds and classes?
I wonder if power necros would be happy with this changes too, maybe they like having condition duration with power

SBI is weaker right now, for reasons known, and JQ seem to have gained 43824389 people out of nowhere. I’d expect JQ to take top spot, depending on how Blackgate do, SBI will probably go to T2 and either collapse or rebuild. SoS… who knows
As soon as we started leading, queues showed up. Not to be mean, but I wish some JQ people would be this enthuastic about WvW when we most need it.
That said, we have some EXTREMELY dedicated commanders that have never quit fighting, cheers to them!
And good luck to SBI, if you go to T2 we’ll be waiting for you to come back.
Burst thieves are easy and they will probably die or run away in a 1vs1 (at less they pop basilik venom and my LR is on CD). But if you are a class cannon I guess protect me + signet of the stone + quickening zephyr and #1 sword should bring him down in a few secs.
P/D thieves are way harder, but why? Because they completely nullify our pets by constanly going into stealth (our pets are like free CnD for them, so my advice is to let it die as soon as you can, or send it to fight some mob away from the theif).
THAT in my opinion is absurd. Our unique class mechanic just stands there lossing aggro everytime a P/D thief goes into stealth so they are not just useless for us, but they are even usefull for them.
Of course this is my personal opinion, I usually start sending my Jaguar on stealth as Victory said, but even when I run with 15 points in BM, I prefer to have a dead pet by my side while fighting a P/D thief.
Anyway, what I do is this: If he’s already close to me, I use the knock back of the LB then QZ + Rapid fire. They may have more than +20k HP in full Carrion’s, but no toughness, so it drops pretty fast. He will probably heal and I’ll use barrage. After he comes out the “wait 3 seconds and dodge” game begins. I keep switching between my LB and my Sword/dagger (or Sword-axe atm, nice to see I’m not the only one :p), trying to dodge his sneak attacks and his CnD as much as I can, standing in healing spring when I need to remove the bleeds, and “bursting” him in melee eveytime I have the chance.
If he has a shortbow, and they usually do, pop Entangle, he’ll try to stealth but it will take a while until he can destroy the roots (then I #1 sword like crazy,)
Not easy against good thieves, but it works against average ones. And by “works” I mean he won’t kill me, because he’s pretty much for sure gonna get away when he realizes he’s not gonna win.
If I could ask for any “buff” it would be allowing pets to keep aggro when the thief “dissapears”. Then any thief who faces a ranger would be like “oh, hell no, if he’s a beastmaster I’m screwed”.
Had 4 SBI run by me and /wave as our yak was coming up to our sentry and headed to tower in the SOS borderland. They were on way to SOS keep. Just /wave and /laugh and kept going. Made me want to /hug each of them. Love it when 2nd and 3rd see the value of playing together at times to topple number one. =)

Looks like a good dueling build, my main question is in the end of that vid…how could you see the thief after he went invis, and you started finishing him off before his invis buff went down.

Why cant they make pets like mesmers Phantasms that will attack the thief as soon as he comes back out, quite annoying having to recast F1 everytime (considering im aiming to kill other people, I just sick my pet at them to scare them off).
THIS is my main complain about pets right now. Especially while fighting p/d thieves. My pet loses aggro every time he goes into stealth and even if I dodge to evade his sneak attacks, my pet just stands there shouting “C&D me pl0x”, so my best alternative is to let my pet die and lose the chance to swap it every 20 secs to gain quickness.
I hate it.
They both trigger at the same time for what I’ve read. The 90s CD on SA doesn’t worth it in my opinion but I do like HIPS :p
You’re missing the point. If you face someone out in the middle of no where like a camp, you have to make your pet run to him. It’s the travel distance that makes pets pointless against WvW zergs which is why we get all the QQ about not being able to hit moving targets.
I don’t really get this paragraph. If you are on your own and face someone at a camp or anywhere else, well yes, you and your pet have to run to him if you wanna fight and pets have improved a lot at hitting moving targets after last patch.
If you are talking about zerg fighting, pets are useless pretty much for the same reason you would be useless if I didn’t have a bow and you just walked into the enemy zerg. Zerg fights have nothing to do with hitting moving targets, they are all about having higher numbers and organization. So you can complain that your pets are useless there, and that you are losing 40% of your damage, but criting for 12k with rapid fire instead of 8k is not gonna turn the tide anyway
Not sure what server you play on, but if you play on Tier 1, you often don’t have the luxury to flip camps solo, especially on EB. More than half of the fights involve 2 zergs pew pewing each other until enough foolish people wander off/get over aggressive and get picked off and one side gets overpowered. Which makes claims that you and your pet could flank even more dubious.
In the borderlands solo capping camps is pretty usual. Zergs tend to move from one BL to the other, so it’s not that hard to flip them when most SBI or SoS are gone.
EB always has big numbers, and that’s all that matters. Same happens in the bls during big zerg fights attacking/defending keeps/towers.
It’s kinda silly to complain about pets being useless in that situations. There are only 3 things that are usefull: numbers, siege and portals. So yeah, as a ranger I can’t crit for 15k and my pet stands by me doing pretty much nothing except for granting buffs every 30 secs. But what do you think other professions do apart from dpsing the gate or manning siege? Zerg fights is not where you’ll find out how good/bad pets are.
I’m 100% with you.
I first chose a GS when I went for a melee option. And I really enjoyed it. I still think the 5 abilities are pretty nice but there’re two major differences at least for me:
- Attack speed. kitten GS #1 and #2 are cool but they are soooo slow. I’ve literaly had enemies just stepping out of maul’s AoE (with me trying to desperately land it right).
- Thieves. Sticking to them while they are stealthed with sword 1# is priceless.
In the other hand, there are some cons I can say about the sword:
- Dungeons. Being able to time and fully control my dodges is the most important thing.
- #2. The evade part has a too long cast time wich makes it almost useless as an evade (I’m talking about when you recognize an animation of an attack you want to evade, not just random evading), and the leap tends to miss a lot if the target moves, wich is what they usually do when you evade backward. So for me, #2 is only a way to gain distance and swap to my LB.
Such a shame you are a SBI and not a JQ ^^ but really, watching that jaguar owning JQ thieves is still fun as H E L L!
I noticed that too, sometimes when I’m surrounded by a couple of enemies, and I want to interrupt the one who is about to stomp me, nothing happens, or the stun goes to my previous target :/
And yes, I love lick wounds, even if it works 50% on the time lol
Personally, I love how the rangers are doing, specially in WvW (I’m not sure if you are talking about sPvP or tPvP tho).
To be honest, I have had harder times fighting rangers than thieves, lately. I believe the general ranger community has grown up a lot. I don’t see as many glass cannons spamming 1 with their shortbow as I used to, I see people trying new builds, and getting better.
So, in my opinion, the rangers in general have improved a lot, thanks to some fixes/buffs but also thanks to many people’s creativity.
I love my longbow/sword-dagger (kinda tanky) build, and I notice that while rangers are getting harder to kill, thieves are getting easier, wich is fun :B
So give it a try, we are not OP and I hope we’ll never be, but take a look at some new builds, you will be surprised of what we’ve been missing

Just search “Sigil”, and start reading the tooltips (they can be minor, major or superior, depending on your level). When you find a Sigil you like, I recommend googling it, since some tooltips can be really vage.
I noticed that too, and I hate it!! I’m leveling an ele (human female), and as a lvl 80 Ranger (also human female, yes, I’m very creative) I get some light stuff I loved to preview to see how the looked like :p I know it may sound silly, but it was really cool!
I wanna be able to preview everything! Even armor/weapons from the TP, now I can’t even preview my own loot :C

I know most of my dedicated fellows in JQ won’t agree, but I would really like going to T2 for a change. Most of the people who came to JQ to get their map completition, free karma and level their alts already left, many important guilds lost a lot of people that quit playing.
Free server tranfers support people/guilds that only care about winning, even if that means transfering to a server to take towers with 40-people zergs, while there are only a couple defenders inside or none at all.
So honestly, I couldn’t be less worried about leaving T1.
I had my fun with HoD and SBI, and ET and IoJ, and many others. I was lucky to be there when caping was something you did fighting, not just walking through an empty tower, when money you spent in upgrades was worth it, when T1 was a WvWvW, not one-colour-borderlands. So really, I can’t complain. But now I’m looking forward for more even and entertaining matches.

Is THIS “Our new system will allow players who disconnect to reconnect to their party and jump back into the dungeon.” gonna allow that when a player rage quit or simply dc (for too long), party members can invite another player? If so, it this gonna end up in people being kicked out of parties because now it’s possible to invite someone else?
Or is it just gonna allow to connect to the party those who already were a part of it?
Besides that one concern, I’m very happy with this change. I quit fractals after I spent a couple of days LFG for lvl 17 with no luck. So I guess I’ll be coming back.
I personally don’t have a specific dungeon set, since I spend most of my time in WvW. But I make some changes to be a little more supportive.
Healing Spring instead of Heal as One or Troll Unguent.
Saving Quickening Zephyr for insta rezzing downed mates (same with quickness from swaping pets).
Carrying a warhorn for the buffs, and switching longbow for greatsword (keeping the LB for tough bosses)
Entangle instead of Rampage as One, not great, but it can make some situations a lot easier.
Pets that grants buffs, like red moa and fern hund, maybe jungle stalker, but he’s too squishy IMO.
I don’t know about spirits, to be honest, I’ve never given them a try because I’ve heard too many times they are “not reliable/broken”, and I really wouldn’t like having to change my traits everytime I wanna do a run.
And some people like Search and Rescue, but I prefer rezzing myself.
Hope it’s helpfull, and I would like to hear more about dungeon supportive builds too!

Yeah, apparently rangers like to troll too.
Some thieves have found a way to get inside Lake tower on their own. I guess they use infiltrator’s arrow, but I’ve never seen one GETTING inside, just trying to cap on his own.

1. He was clearing the lordroom when I got in
2. No seige used, gate and walls are untouched
3. Another SoS inside, who stayed for a while after I killed the thief, probably scouting.
It happened at Sea of Sorrows borderland, half hour ago.
And to be honest, a couple of hours ago I saw a Jade Quarry player do the same thing in another BL (can’t remember wich it was) but I couldn’t take that ss since I was outside the tower, at the gate trying to find a way to get in, then he just capped and headed north.
Hope Anet fix this soon, it’s really hard to cap anything being outmanned and even harder if just one person gets inside and recap it (because people usually see white crosses, check the gate for rams and walls for catas, then leave).
Wilderness Survival
-Is it just me or is this the best trait line? it seems to me that all good traits are found here including some that will perfectly fit in the Skirmishing line.
There are so many good traits here I wish I could have more than just 3 :C
If you’re in a duneon, as long as you’re alive, you are contributing dps, no matter how low so its a better choice to be able to survive than output high damage. Sustained dps > high damage if you get downed frequent and another person has to come pick you up. That’s a lost of 2 dps.
I used to believe “dead dps = 0 dps”, but you are completely right. Downed dps = lost of 2 dps (plus the chance of getting the rezer dead)
And I for one, absolutely hate being the person standing in the back, running when I see some mob getting close to me, while my teammates get their hands dirty (our pets doesn’t work as meat shields in dungeons, and our teammates shouldn’t be our “pets”)
I’m not gonna make any run twice as fast for being full zerker, so I prefer lossing some dps, but having a more enjoyable experience.
That said, without getting used to dodge when you have to, no vitality nor toughness is gonna save you :p
Lol so true! I went to spvp a few hours ago just to test a couple of things and I couldn’t believe how many rangers where there :P is all this because of last patch? I haven’t spvp in months, and I used to be the only ranger around. I don’t complain tho, I prefer fighting some rangers than full thieves/warriors teams : )
Just limit the number of people can res downed player to 1or2 it will be all fine and for gods sake I am not an engineer but please fix that class at least give them something to give them some time in downed state.
I support the engies request. I’ve been playing WvW for 5 months now and I don’t even recognize what engies’ downed skills are.
oh and pls remove invisible ressing /finishing its totally expoitable too much
I hate the invirezzing a lot, but I understand that it doesn’t do any damage to a foe, so stealth shouldn’t go away.
But finishing someone while in stealth?….Total BS.
I would like see something like this in WvW: If you get downed once, you can rally or get rezz’d (with very little health), and if you get downed again in a 5 minutes period, you die and must respawn from waypoint, or at least, you just die.
No more never ending rezzchains.

2. Don’t allow rez of a full stomped player unless rezer is out of combat.
I want to make a legendary for my ranger, but i’m not liking any of the bow skins. So I came up with legendary pets instead. Maybe pets could be made of gold, onyx, different gems, or any other fun crazy stuff. Hope you get the idea. I know all the other classes would be jealous. I think this would be a great option. I don’t mean the elite fire hounds and wolf. Share ideas and thoughts. ty

I leveled a thief to 30 in PvE but it was so boring and hard (compared to ranger) soloing that I decided to level her to 80 at WvW. And it’s cool cuz I learned a few things about thieves that now help me while fighting against them ^^
I have had Twilight in mind long before the GS buffs, so yeh, go for it! They look bad kitten and most important, they’re a lot of fun ^^
