Why don't 4v5 matches fill from queue?

in PvP

Posted by: Errant Venture.9371

Errant Venture.9371

Who wants to come in late to an already started match in which one side started with a clear advantage? No thanks.

Simple solution: if a match is 5vLess beyond the first 120s of the match then the match is aborted with the full team rewarded with the win, while the losing players still present for the entirety of the match’s abbreviated duration simply vacate the result. The absent player(s) however are punished with the loss, and their MMR will reflect all 5 losses from their entire team for who’s time they so carelessly wasted.

People won’t leave ranked matches so freely when the result is your MMR and leaderboard ranking fall off a cliff.

I would modify this to not bother ending the match and causing the leavers to lose DOUBLE the normal MMR (sucks for DCs, but I’m willing to pay that price to cut the leavers down).

Why don't 4v5 matches fill from queue?

in PvP

Errant Venture.9371

Those matches should either one of these, or both:
- Get a replacement from queue. A message would be sent to players on queue, telling them if they want to volunteer to join a match in course. They’ll get a glory bonus for joining that match, and they’ll also get the ‘win bonus’ like when players volunteer in hot join arenas.
- During the match, there should be a ‘sit out’ volunteer option, in which people from one team volunteer to spectate while the other team doesn’t have the same number of players. They’ll come back as long as the numbers are equal again.

The last 12 consecutive matches I’ve been in, 1-2 people left from one team.

That’s too many.

I’m starting to suspect hey are ‘players’ who have managed to sync their matches, leaving on purpose to give their friends an unfair advantage.

Also, dishonorable should make a comeback ASAP.

Way too complicated. Simply bring back dishonorable and add a pause feature. As soon as a player leaves (on purpose or disconnect) the match applies invulnerability + immobilize to all players and points stop ticking. Once the game fills from the queue, the match resumes.

Simple question. Why don’t matches which are 4v5 fill from the queue? As soon as someone leaves/DC the spot is filled. If you DC, well wsorry that sucks for you but it shouldn’t damage your teammates MMR.

better idea. if the 5th person does not show up or reconnect within a given certain amount of time after the match starts say 5 minutes. the match ends with no damage to anyone’s MMR and then you’re automatically re queued with high priority

People will purposefully disconnect in order to avoid losing MMR

Arguments in favor of healing signet?

Because players are ignorant and don’t know how to counter Healing signet.

Why don’t you enlighten us then, oh master of countering unstrippable passives

The burst heal is terrible. Healing signet can only rely on the passive regen. That is the weakness of the healing signet.

It shouldn’t take more than few brain cells to brainstorm that high dps destroy the healing signet warriors.

That’s why the carry immunity spells, massive condi clean and multiple stunlocks. Each stun = 2-3k worth of healing and they bring 4+ so that you can’t dodge all of them. Assuming that you can consistently maintain enough damage to overcome the passive is ridiculous, they purposefully chose this spec because the healing more than matches most pure DPS specs.

Condi clean, immunity spells have cooldowns. Mace/shield Stunlocks have short range.

When immunity happens, you don’t use high burst damage and you don’t facetank the warrior, instead you kite the warrior.

You dodge important skills like the GS’s 4 skill. If you dodge that, the warrior will have a hard time trying to catch up to you. You do not waste dodge, you do not chain dodge, You do not faceroll, instead you watch the warrior’s attack.

After immunity is down, you spam every CC and burst down with every burst damage and auto-attack you got. You make sure you get defensive when Mace/shield is up, and get offensive when GS is up.

You need to play as a warrior in order to learn how to defeat warriors.

GS how out of touch are you? Warriors haven’t been running greatswords in MONTHS. Are you theorycrafting? Or just out of touch with the meta?

imo I don’t see any reason for players to be so against healing signet. I feel it’s more fair than Rangers Troll Unguent, not because of number to number but in context and synergy with a build.

Troll unguent has a cast time which can be interrupted, and not running healing spring limits a rangers condition removal options, making poison a relatively effective counter to the HoT.

HS+AH ticks passively, and thanks to cleansing ire/BS, it’s hard to get poison to stick.

Not to mentioned that poison has been bugged since launch so that it only reduces healing ~50% of the times it’s applied.

Around 1.5 thousand, but keep in mind that it was announced only 2 days before the event and held during what was a very inconvenient timeslot for many people IMO.

I think someone is currently working on compiling them into a more presentable document, standby for a few days and Ill try to squeeze it out.

Hey blu, I’m the one who pinged you on reddit/twitter. I have the first match (vVv vs Sync) done and i’m going to try and finish the others by tomorrow.

In the future it’d really help if casters would make sure to mouseover the armor + weapon sets for each character for at least a second or two. I missed almost half the runes/sigils because the casters never even checked them!

All of the other skills you listed must be cast to use. that means a skilled player can interrupt or shutdown the heal, and after the heal has been popped there is a window where you can burst the opponent down. Healing signet matches those other skills but is 100% passive + cannot be shutdown using any mechanism in game.

Healing Turret has a 0.5 second cast, you can’t reliably interrupt that.

Also, a passive HoT is not always an advantage over an active burst heal,

  • Poison is a strong counter to Healing Signet. Every second he dosn’t cleanse it the Warrior will lose 130 HP whereas with most other heals you only have to cleanse before you use it (some heals even do it for you).
  • Sometimes you need the HP now not in 30 seconds (though the amount of stuns and utilitie skills make it easy to stall for time in a 1v1)
  • HS is just raw health, many other heals have addition benefits (condition removal, adrenalin gain, boons, …)

Is Healing Signet strong? Yes, definetly.

Does it need a nerf? I dont think so, in my oppinion the real problem is not the Signet but the stuns and the amount of time you can stall on a Warrior.

Poison has been bugged since launch. It only actually reduces healing about 1/2 the time. Combined with Adrenal health + Dolyak runes a warrior can put out ~900 HPS with NO HEALING POWER and that regen CANNOT be stripped.

Warrior spec’s have OP regen which only seems balanced in a massive condi meta. Power builds are absolutely kittened against the OP regen these wars put out. A war in full zerk becomes a tank with massive burst in these specs.

lol, It depends on theif build, most are cookie cutters though, people rarely see P/P, and dont know what to do when they encounter one, its fun staying at 900 range bursting down people. If any one comes up to me I blind them, if I get too low they cant catch me. But you can beat theif with any class, it depends on how versed you are and how versed they are at that time.

If you die to a thief running RoI AND Shadowstep, you deserve to lose.

2) it heals over time but if you do your maths it basically heals more than any other healing skills: 407 per second = 12210 every 30s, compare it to Healing surge, which was the strongest “burst” healing skill, that does around 9k with a 30s recharge.

Actually, it has a lower HPS than:

  • Healing Turret (it also heals allies, supplies a water field and removes two conditions)
  • Consume Conditions (with 8 or more conditions)
  • Mantra of Healing (which actually has the highest HPS in the game but sucks because of the long cast)

The reason Heling Signet is so strong is because it synergizes with a lot of other skills.

  • Stun your enemy for 3 seconds -> thats 1.2k health back.
  • Use Shield Stance -> another 1.2k back.
  • Endure Pain -> yet another 1.2k health.

All of the other skills you listed must be cast to use. that means a skilled player can interrupt or shutdown the heal, and after the heal has been popped there is a window where you can burst the opponent down. Healing signet matches those other skills but is 100% passive + cannot be shutdown using any mechanism in game.

If players had widespread access to skills which remove other players signets, this conversation would be very different. Unfortunately that mechanic does not exist (though if you think about it, such a mechanic really should be around as it would help counter a LOT of the issues involved in passive stats dominating PvP).

Infiltrator Strike : A balance blunder

If I was a designer, I’d ask myself these things:

Why was nobody complaining about this ability when it was 10 times stronger than it is today and remained as powerful for 10 months?

How seriously can one take player feedback given this little fact?

Exactly. Infiltrator’s strike is weaker now than it ever has been (much of LoS immunity removed, infinite range taken away). Why are people complaining about it? The thief’s role is to jump into a fight, deal damage, and jump out before it can be locked down and nuked. InfStrike isn’t overpowered, there’s just a MASSIVE prejudice against thieves on forums. The kids who post here simply do not want the class to be viable.

Nerfing infiltrator’s strike will NOT destroy the S/D perma-evade spec but it WILL kill the only other viable (but underpowered) thief spec: S/P

Stop playing on machines from the late 90s. A 3rd gen intel i5 and a GTX 640 GPU will run Tequatl on max settings without breaking a sweat. The problem isn’t the servers or even the engine. It’s YOUR machine.

Source: Running Teq with no lag on max settings on a Dell XPS 8500 with a 3rd Gen i5 processor and GTX640 GPU

No, it’s not the machine. I have a computer that’s from 2007 and it has been able to handle every game I’ve thrown at it so far at max settings. And I play a ton of graphic-heavy games.

Then I come to Guild Wars 2 and I can barely run it on medium settings. Items disappear until the game can load them, sound disappears out of nowhere, and half the time, I just disconnect out of Teq fights for no reason at all. I get the same results on my laptop with an i5, except worse.

a Machine from 2007 is 6 YEARS out of date. That’s FOUR full generations of components. It’s practically a relic.

Remember people, a component generation is 18 months. Anything more than 3 years old is COMPLETELY OBSOLETE.

This is at medium settings. The game auto detects at ultra and I turned it down medium with post processing off and shadows and reflections to low. It gives me about 5 fps more than the auto detect settings. On my AMD I have most everything on low and can’t even get the 20-25 fps I get on my i7. This is during bigger zerges. Normal gameplay areas I get 70-100 fps.

Interesting. I normally run around 80 FPS in normal gameplay and drop to 40-60 FPS in big zergs with everything at high (except shadows at medium + post-processing off).

I think Errant is trolling you guys.

I dunno…. I know people who seemingly have zero issues with gw2 performance wise. Strangely enough most of them aren’t ppl with killer systems either. I do have to wonder if the game was optimized and play tested for the i5 as I see a ton of ppl with i5 processors that are having better luck than other people who even have much stronger processors. Either way there are obviously issues in my opinion or this thread and countless others would not receive these levels of debate they have if it was just a localized issue or a few ppl with very outdated pc’s.

Out of curiosity, how does your system run at medium settings? That might help narrow it down to whether or not the game’s just not optimized to run at full high settings.

I am currently running the following specs and get insane lag during major event’s on max setting’s.

Intel I5 2500k OC to 4.0ghz Processor
16 gigs of DDR3 Memory
256 gb Samsung 840 pro SSD Harddrive
MSI AMD HD 7870 Graphics card

all teamed up on a Z77 gigabyte motherboard.

My spec’s while not top of the line are not slouching either and will lay waste to 90% of the system’s this game is run on. I have to agree there is room lots of room to optimize the game.

My best guess as to why this and a lot of other updates are being put on hold are because of the 2 week living story updates. There has yet to be a 2 week update that does not come with multiple game breaking bugs.

The havok engine that GW2 uses for all of its physics calculations + AI is owned & operated from intel. It is notorious for performing poorly on AMD GPUs.

The resolution for your monitor plays a large part on the fps. What resolution are you running the game in? Because I highly doubt you are playing with max settings with a monitor of 1080p or more with your set up and getting smooth 60fps in high density fights.

I run 1920×1080 on an Asus VS248H-P 24-Inch Full-HD LED Monitor

I DO disable post-processing, but that’s mainly because the game just looks a whole helluva lot better without it.

My system specs are in my sig.
I get 20fps in zergs and high pop events. It is NOT our systems, it is the crappy engine that the game is built around.

I am actually running practically the same setup with the same performance. People can make all of the excuses they want but the truth is I have a PC I can install near any current game on and play smooth as butter on ultra or high settings except GW2. That does not in any way fit with the advertised “mid range system” pitch we were given at launch when it won’t even run on systems considered fairly high end. Also the fact it so CPU intensive and barely touches the GPU just shows how messed up the engine really is. I know personally I’m not going to go buy a new PC to replace one less than a year old because 1 game is poorly designed.

Honestly I’m pretty sure you’re either:
A). Over-exaggerting the extent of your issues
B). Have some sort of overheating issue causing you to get low performance out of your CPU
C). Managed to screw up your overclock causing you to get poor performance out of your CPU
D). Have a horrifically un-optimized network connection

I run a lower tier system than this guy (i5 2.7k GHz + GTX640) and I can run on full max settings in a hard capped overflow for Teq (let alone WvW) and have ZERO lag issues (60+ FPS with occasional rubberband hiccups whem my flatmate fires up his p2p torrents).

Not everyone has a job. Not everyone has cash. Why should I upgrade my computer for this game when it runs fine on other MMOs?

If I wanted an amazing experience, I’de just go play something else because I know it won’t happen in GW2.

A refurb’d Dell tower with a 3rd gen i5, GTX640, and 8 gigs of RAM runs for about $400. If you can’t afford an upgrade to a machine that’s an entire 18month generation out of date, I’m sorry, that sucks, but you shouldn’t complain about performance.

What I don’t understand is WHY ANET hasn’t made the graphical part of the game GPU based over CPU, kinda counter productive IMO.

They bought the engine architecture from another company. Most MMO producers don’t actually write their own engine architecture anymore.

That’s interesting because Anet has said that the engine GW2 is using is a heavily modified and upgraded version of the engine they made for GW1.

That being said maybe that engine was made by someone else?

Sorry, looks like I was (partially) mistaken. The server architecture was designed by Arenanet, but they use the Havok physics engine for all of the dynamics/physics calculations.

Somewhat related…what’s Anet’s policy regarding playing two clients on one machine/IP at the same time? Not trying to do anything illicit…I just like to keep my second account up on a second monitor to flip items on the trading post while I’m running dungeons on my main account.
Thanks

Good post. I don’t understand why they decided to re-invent their ladder system for GW2 when they hard a perfectly functional and fair Elo system in GW1

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ladder

Every player starts at 1200 rating and your rating change after each match is a shift weighted for your (and your opponents ratings). Ladder rank is determined by rating (highest rating at the top of the ladder).

Very simple system that works very well for Chess + GW1, and should work GREAT in GW2. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it =\

Mesmers and Eles don’t need buffs. We have enough power creep already.

Agreed, power creep was the single biggest long-term problem in GW1.

Mesmers and Eles were pushed out of the meta because they couldn’t cope with the pace of AoE cleave in teamfights, and their single target burst wasn’t high enough to deal with backpoint defenders like spirit rangers. If we tone down the AoE cleave on Ranger, Necro, and Warrior, the Eles and Mesmers will become viable again.

Idea: Return Zaishen Key's to PvP.

Zaishen keys were great for GW1 and they definitely spurred a LOT of interest in the less-competitive modes (HB/RA/HA) which had been declining for a long time in GW1.

I think a similar system, with keys bought for glory, would be pretty effective in GW2. The best way to make it work would be to come up with a whole set of weapon skins available for PvE/PvP and make them exclusive to the PvP Chest.

Honestly though I’d rather not do this right now: PvP isn’t in a healthy enough tstate to develop designer resources to bringing in new players. It’s taken them a YEAR to implement superficial changes like Solo Queue, a Broken Leaderboard/MMR system, and Permanent Finishers. What we really need right now, is all the designer resources possible dedicated to creating a DISTINCT PVP BALANCE TEAM separate from the existing Balance Team, and a dedication to creating a fresh game mode with large, complex maps and multiple complex objectives.

GvG: Confirmed?

GvG has to level up from the outdated and ancient gvg that is of gw1. WvWvW GvG 20-20 could work if they get their own instance and side objectives.

How is going from a complicated arena 8v8 system with multiple objectives (borrowing elements from deathmatch, ctf, base defense, conquest, etc) on large maps to a 20v20 deathmatch in a circle “leveling up”?

You can call it what you want but Gw1 GvG and the zergmatchs in WvW are two completely beasts that do not share any elements in common. Comparing the two modes is absolutely ridiculous (which is why it’s ridiculous to name the format in GW2 “GvG”)

its not complicated. what made it complicated is thakittens clunky, not user friendly though there were easy to run fotm gimmick builds such as iway. not fluid. you can’t even dodge. it’s based on the olden concept of trinity. you have to spike to kill. it’s formulaic. you have to perform a certain way to win. usually those who master this becomes the top team. if you look gw1 now, it’s filled with players who have played from when the top koreans and americans left. the skill ceiling aka “wasted time to master” is that high because it is not casual friendly.

wvwvw GvG is promising because it won’t be only death match if they are given their exclusive arena with secondary objectives. it could be zerg fest. but with secondary objectives, it will be played with splits or with tactics.

IWAY in GvG? Should’ve known better than to have someone from MATH comment on a complex game mode. Stick to 8x fire eles in ID1 mate.
