I have two questions that I would like answered. Is the Master of Peace a member of the Order of Whispers and how does the miner with the itchy skull fit into this? The miner with the itchy skull seems to have gotten close to the ley lines. Perhaps this is what is causing his skull to be itchy. If this is caused by the ley lines, then perhaps the ley lines triggered Scarlet’s behavior when the dream’s protection was lost. Possibly the proximity to the ley lines is what caused Aerin to go crazy.

So, is there something in the ley lines that is infecting those that go near it?

I’m not really sure how I think about the itchy skull thing. On one hand, it could be something Lovecraftian in nature, and something is sending mental feelers out into the surrounding area. That would fit the profile is any numbers of unpleasant things.

Or on the other hand, such a high concentration of magic could be adversely effecting the things in the area, people and objects, kinda like radiation maybe? There is a conversation that the mining equipment is acting up the further they dig down. Though, I’m not sure if the equipment is magical in nature or not. We need more details on that part.

I really doubt we are going to see abaddon unless in a fractal. Abaddon’s dead.

Nothing’s dead in fiction. Say the essence of the god corrupted Kormir on the long run, or maybe Kormir never got the upper hand when he fused with the corpse of Abaddon. It was actually Abaddon all along, he just trolled everyone by appearing to have lost. He was chained and had no way out, and he’s the local Tzeench. His plans plans have plans.

But enough talking. I think devs might actally have a policy against using anything that anyone ever came up with on the forums, in fear of plagiarism claims. I might actually decrease the chances by posting about it.

The devs didn’t just say Abaddon was dead. They said his storyline was entirely over. His fractal, even if they made, wouldn’t have added anything since it would have only been basically a flashback.

What who see as reference to the Realm of Torment, I see as a reference to the Elder Dragons.

Scarlet’s map is suppose to be about ley lines, and it shows six objects/locations highlighted on that map. This corresponds with the number of Elder Dragons and our knowledge that they exude magic while they are asleep. The magic that they exude in their sleep is probably what forms the ley lines of the world, with the sleeping Elder Dragon being the hub/center.

Actually, the crystal garden is the skill point. Unless it comments on stuff being missing and I missed that.

The skill point says how the crystals were grown.

“The magical energies of the dragon champion Glint still linger around the wreckage of this garden used by her Zephyrite followers to grow their Aspect crystals from her crystalline remains.”

Emphasis is mine.

Unless they shattered her entire body, and they used the crystal dust to seed all the aspect crystals, it kind of (to me anyway) implies that Glint’s body, or whatever remained of it, was on board that airship.

After reading the first half of the OP, I seriously thought you were leading to the true nemesis being the Steam Brain. Her first machines were crude, but after the Brain was able to expand on the steam creatures’ intelligence on its own, her machines were able to advance at a much faster rate, since she was probably using the Brain’s own designs.

On a side note, I’m not sure if it’s Asura dialogue or not, but Taimi says something like “she could have built something like this as a toddler”, and the player can respond with something along the lines of, “Well she had to start some where.” Taimi then says something like, “I guess I can’t blame her for being born as an adult.”

I guess it could go either way. On one hand, he could take after Glint’s “you need to break a few eggs to make an omelet” style of peacemaking, or his mission as the leader of the Zephyrites takes precedence over everything else. Glint’s remains which they used to grow crystals is missing, possible child is missing, and any other sort of powerful relics as well. His job is to preserve those objects, so he could have left to take those to a safe place.

And the seed didn’t come about/hatch until the Elder Dragons started coming around.

That doesn’t directly imply a connection though, and the seed cave was found by happenstance. Ronan was in no way connected to the Elder Dragons, and he only happen to stumble upon the cave to take a seed to show his daughter. He planted it afterwards, and like most fertile seeds do, it sprouted.

No Elder Dragon involvement in the seed’s discovery or planting at all, and unless there is evidence to suggest that Pale Trees can only sprout when the Elder Dragons active, we can only assume they grow naturally like most plants do if planted in the ground.

That’s irrelevant. A veer off path be it intentional or forced, is still straying from which the original goal was intended. This doesn’t “eliminate” the similarity.

Yet, people still can’t prove that the Pale Tree ever had a pre-destined path as a dragon champion in the first place. People can assume based off theories, but until those theories get new information to back them up, they have be disproven and/or sorely lacking for a long while.

The Sylvari as Mordremoth Minions?

in Living World

Erukk.1408

I wouldn’t necessarily say it holds no water. The Pale Tree itself could have very well been a Champion of Mord but also, like Glint, veered from it’s pre-destined path.

Not really, no.

The Pale Tree was found as a seed in a cave. She might have had some vague memories and thoughts while she was still a seed, but she didn’t seem to gain full enough consciousness to look out into the world until she sprouted out of the ground. That alone eliminates the “Champion of Mordremoth” theory.

As for being like Glint and “veering from its pre-destined path”, Glint didn’t veer off the path by her own choosing. She was forcefully pushed off it by the Forgotten. They captured her while she was still a Champion of Kralk, dragged her back to Arah, and they performed a spell that broke the mental connection between her and her master. She didn’t become a good guy instantly afterwards. That happened over time, when she started to empathize with the lesser races by way of her telepathy.

Erukk.1408

It is not accurate to compare a tv series and a game story – they work in two entirely different ways. To even try and emulate a TV series in a game is utter folly. Season 1 proved that.

Yes, they work in different ways. But they can have similarities. Like storytelling. A TV series can have a good storytelling and a computer game can have a good storytelling.

Greetings.

I think it has to deal more with the writing and how the storyline is set up. The LS can emulate a season of a television show, but it can’t be written in the same way. The pacing of the season’s story arc would be completely different between the two genres, and I think that was part of the problem with s1 of the LS.

Not to mention, the writing for games, especially MMOs, needs to be a bit broader than TV. As much as people love Westeros, we can’t actually explore it. Our PoV is entirely tied down to whoever we’re following at the time. In games, the player has a chance to explore and investigate the world, and we can talk to the npcs in the surrounding area to get additional info and depth.

The relationships would most likely to occur in places of a lot of racial mixing (LA, the Orders, the Pact, pirate crews, etc.), since most of the major cities have only really started opening themselves up awhile ago.

…for people that are already considerably wealthy. It takes money to make money. If a player can’t even afford a single precursor, it would be extremely hard for them to forge precursors to sell.

Like the unicorn, they would have to be really lucky to get one, and they would have to cross their fingers and hope they don’t blow all their money in a cold streak trying to forge another one to sell.

I would have to agree. They putting precursor components behind challenging solo/group achievements for each LS season would be a nice touch.

  • It would keep a steady interest in players to buy/play those LS episodes.
  • It would be an excellent way to introduce more challenging content (for possibly solo and/or group play).
  • And, it would finally make us shut up about them adding in a way to obtain precursors outside of the MF and winning the drop lottery.

I would have to agree. Old LA was… ok, but the whole thing looked like it was only one step above Krait architecture. We all know the city was built by pirates, hence being built out of wreaked ships and whatnot, but that city was also filthy rich and an economic hub of Tyria. With all those resources, the Old LA still seems a bit dull.

Surprisingly, it being torn apart and blown to bits added a bit of character. To me anyway. Plus, there is the added promise of it hopefully being rebuilt in finally match it’s status in Tyria.

The involvement of spirits is what I meant by “strictest of definitions”, and I, like you, usually think of a certain amount of tribalism when it comes to shamanistic classes. But other than maybe the Luxon ones, the only thing tribal about the ritualists of Cantha were their clothes. Life and society at the Shing Jea Monastery, Kaineng, or the Kurzick Houses is far from tribal.

That why I usually describe them as ectomancers. Magical practitioners who specialize in calling and dealing with the spirits of the dead.

Personally, I don’t think I ever considered the ritualist as “shamanistic”. Maybe in the strictest of definitions, but the class seemed too refined and mainstream to be what I consider as a shaman. If anything, I always thought of them as ectomancers.

The wind and earth prayers I can understand, but I think the weak part of your lore argument is the mysticism. It was the main attribute of the dervishes, and they wouldn’t really be able to teach it, since it all played into the gods and the dervish’s faith in them.

The asura, or any other nonhuman races really (minus the sylvari), might acknowledge the gods’ existence, but they don’t really have any faith in them, and that is one of the key factors of what makes a dervish a dervish. If all one needed was some expanded air and earth magic to play a dervish, it would just be an attunement handicapped elementalist wielding a scythe.

This proves my point; it’s highly subjective. It all depends on who ANet wants to market this game to; anime kids who love completely unrealistic weapons, or people who can appreciate why most medieval weapons didn’t weigh more than 5 lbs.

Thank god we’re in a fantasy setting then aren’t we? The place where the laws of physics need not apply, because everything questionable can be explained away with magic or magical enhancement.

Plus, they gave mesmers, probably the most bookish scholarly class in gw2, greatswords of all weapons, and they are used for ranged combat as well. If they can do that, they can bring back the scythe, and they can open up all the weapons to all the classes sometime in the future.

I guess it’s a matter of opinion, because I wouldn’t consider the old system as superior, it was just easier. It was entirely possible for people to have spent their entire lv1-80 experience running the train in Queensdale, before they killed it, and they wouldn’t have needed to do anything else.

What people would consider “a punch in the face” by having to unlock traits, I would consider having to actually go and explore and experience the world to strengthen and broaden your character’s abilities.

That’s why they gave you the option of unlocking it two ways. You can either search out the events themselves to unlock, since most of them was relatively easy to do, or you can simply pay a small fee and some skill points to unlock the ones you want but you don’t want to do the events for.

To unlock all your traits so you can experiment or re-trait depending on what you want to do (www roam, www zerg, pve, etc), you need over 40 gold and 360 skill points. That is not a small cost of gold and skill points. Now, multiply this by the number of alts you have.

Hence why I said, “That’s why they gave you the option of unlocking it two ways.” Unless players are allergic to going out into different areas and doing the simple unlocks like “Kill XXX” or “Complete XXX event”, they are in no way paying anywhere near the 40 gold and 360 skill points. For the ones they don’t want to do, like the area completion ones and the like, they can simply pay some silver and sp to unlock.

Heck, a good chuck of that gold and skill points comes from unlocking the GMXIII traits, and those can be all done in a couple of hours by standing around in Orr or Southsun waiting for the event to start.

I’m in the process of lving up a mesmer, and it’s a bit of a pain at the moment, since their traits help a lot with their combat.
