The recipe in which I can throw my mini-Jennahs into the MF to made a full size Mecha-Jennah pet.
As usual though we’ve got to go with the clue in game rather than any omission. Trahearne said it had to be someone with a very dark heart so that’s likely to be how it was (even though I don’t see any evidence for that yet).
I’m stilling crossing my fingers and hoping it’s Faolain.
No, you missed my point, or maybe I didn’t express myself right. I would like an expansion too, new content is always welcome. I actually yearn for new maps the most of all the possible content. But people who ’’whine’’ about it are mostly the ones who can never be satisfied. Or at least I got that impression from these forums. Yes, I admit, not all of them. But a lot of them are.
That and by this point, one and a half plus years later, the developers already know how much some people want an expansion. It’s kinda hard to miss when the forums are usually cluttered with numerous threads on the subject. By now, it’s complaining for the sake of complaining, and it’s basically to the point where it’s simply forum white noise. Our eyes just skip over these threads most of the time because it’s “Oh… another expansion thread.”
(edit:) Am I really the only one who would be way more intrigued by learning more about the Seers?
No. Most folks interested in the mursaat are equally so interested in the Seers, since their histories are so intriquately tied together.
I’m personally hoping if/when we get more information about the Mursaat/Seer war, we find out there were more motives behind the war than the Mursaat being colossal aholes.
If she had one, what would you guess it was?
My personal theory is that her Wyld Hunt had to deal with discovering the true nature of the Elder Dragons and how they fit in with the bigger picture of Tyria. She probably finished it while in Omadd’s machine, but by that point, she fell right into Mordy’s/Entity’s lap.
So, yeah, simply because it’s an MMO, that isn’t an excuse for bad writing. MMO’s can have good story with well written characters
Not bad writing per say. I think it deals more with resource management, and just how much resources ($$$) you have. For TOR to get anywhere near that level of storytelling, which all the voice acting, cinematics, animations, etc. helped flesh out, they had to shovel barrels of money towards it.
While gw2 probably had a good budget as well, it was probably no where near that of TOR’s.
Who would you cast as the jellyfish’s voice actor?
No trolling, just Anet listening to feedback. Give them some credit!
Don’t let some people hear this. It might ruin the horrible imagine of Anet that some players have cultivated for themselves.
I would have to agree with the OP. The 5% isn’t much, and the 33% is only active for 20mins of an hour in a single zone. To top that all off, it’s a bundle item that you have to constantly reequip. If I’m only using it to run around Dry Top with, I would rather just sacrifice a slot to equip my Signet of Air. It’s slower, but it’s much more reliable.
End of the day, I’m sad I opened mine.

As you get older everything becomes a trope to you.
/sigh
Pet peeve alert!
I don’t know why people keep saying “trope” as if it’s a bad thing. Tropes are not bad, because tropes are tools.
Whether they know it or not, any and all types of writers use tropes. They are writing tools after all. The most important thing about them though, is not that they are used, but how they are used.
I guess it would depend on who you ask. For myself, the storyline of a game is the game. I devout my time to it because I want to see it progress. Everything else: spvp, wvw, jp, some dungeons, crafting, and the like are bells and whistles and there to add flavor. If the story doesn’t progress, neither do I.
Other people would obviously have different opinions. PvPers would like to see a lot more maps and scenarios, dungeoneers would like to see more “end game” stuff, and crafters would probably like to see more craftable armors/weapons/precursors to fill their collections.
While I’m not sure about precedence, I would like to see a majority of their resources going to the storyline. Though, that’s only my opinion, since I see the storyline have a key role in progressing the game. Maybe 65% of resources towards the LS, 20% towards Pvp, 10% for Dungeons, and the final 5% for Crafting.
Again, only my opinion. Another question though, if you don’t think the LS should take precedence, what do you think should?
Off topic. This kinda reminds me of a statement in an article about the upcoming WoW expansion by game director Tom Chilton.
“Warcraft is more about setting than it is about plot,” he began, explaining why anyone put off by the decision to return to Draenor shouldn’t let it bother them. "It’s always been the setting of these older Warcraft games that have been something that seems like it’s fun to explore, and it has a lot of appeal to both members of our team and the playerbase in general. Then it becomes about how we make it work. So we like to break things up: we just had an expansion that felt very light-hearted, so we wanted to go back to something that felt like heavier Warcraft-themes.
~
“Warcraft is more about setting than it is about plot,”
SCARIEST. STATEMENT. EVER.
One that should never be in the thought processes of MMO developers of any sort of story based game, because it’s one thing to want to have fun, but it shouldn’t come at the greater expense of the story.
Wow… So quick to condemn and without even trying to look what Konig might even be talking about first.
The Pale Tree said that the Shadow of the Dragon was representation of an Elder Dragon, and then point blank mentions Zhaitan by name afterwards, at the end of the first part of the Sylvari PS.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Heart_of_Nightmare
<Player name>: If I may ask, Mother—in my dream, I also saw a fierce, horrible dragon. I’ve been told it is my Wyld Hunt to face this monster. Is that true?
Avatar of the Tree: I fear that is is. A Wyld Hunt is a sacred thing, a burden placed by the Dream upon the strongest and the bravest of my children.
Avatar of the Tree: In your Dream, you fought an Elder Dragon face-to-face. Only two of my children have had such a dream. You, and Caithe.
Avatar of the Tree: All sylvari fight the dragon’s servants, the undead, but I believe you will face Zhaitan itself. I also believe you will prevail.
<Player name>: I understand, Mother. Thank you.
So yes, the Pale Tree did believe it was a representation of Zhaitan in the beginning, and judging how the Sylvari players felt their Wyld Hunt was over after killing Zhaitan, she wasn’t completely off her mark either.
They should just add it onto the Feature Packs. Since SAB doesn’t contribute to the overall story at all, the best time to rerelease it is during the break time between the LS segments. It would give us something to do for those 2+ months, because the stuff added in the Feature Packs don’t take up all that time.
Congratulations!
This is the 1,000,000th thread on this subject!
maybe we grew up
This.
Seconded. Our tastes in games have changed over time. I still like MMOs in general, but I’ve been getting bored with them lately since they are basically all ran on the same formula.
GW2 is my MMO of choice at the moment because of the setup of the whole thing, and if I ever get bored with it, it’s easy to stop playing for a length of time and just pick it up again later.

I used to sell stacks of silk to the merchant because selling it on the TP was at a loss.

Oh… Those were the days.
This is true.
And those vines are awfully close to the throat… are we sure they’re cuddling in kindness?
It would be hilarious if Mawdrey is Anet’s attempt at the original ending of Little Shop of Horrors.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Shop_of_Horrors_(film)#Original_ending
It should be noted that none of the descriptions says Mawdrey is ever cleansed of the dragon corruption. Only that it has grown attached to you. So we can’t really make a definitive statement either way on regards to it.
It also should be noted that the Forgotten ritual didn’t actually cleanse Glint or the Risen Chicken of corruption either. It simply broke the Elder Dragon’s mental domination over the subject. Glint was still technically a Branded, and the Risen Chicken is well… still a Risen.
Warden Illyra: Yes. Yes! Look at these runes. The Forgotten were able to remove Kralkatorrik’s control over Glint.
Warden Illyra: Glint remained in crystalline form, but she regained her free will and identity.
My best guess/theory is that with each passing generation of seedlings, without Mordy to constantly exert control of them, slowly weakens their connection to him. Unlike most of the other types of dragon minions (which are made of ice, stone, crystal, lava, water(?), and death) the Mordrem are made up of living things. If left by themselves, they might have a chance of growth and evolution that the other minions don’t have.
Or who knows, maybe Glint or one of the elder races were experimenting on the Mordrem, and the cave that was filled with the Pale Tree seeds was a seed bank of sorts. Time will only tell at this point.
Ronin.7381I can’t recall the NPC’s name but there is a disembodied soul who mocks the fact that that his corporeal form is one of Zhaitan’s minions. So if a soul can be removed from the body, surely upon death the Sylvari’s body would be free game. There’s no enough context to explain this flaw in this particular argument that tries to denounce the theory all together.
Though it might be different in Mordy’s case, I think I remember reading that a Sylvari’s body withers when effected by dragon corruption, leaving it unsuitable in any sort meaningful way.
I am with Phunt on this. I will certainly not leave the potentially most devastating weapon in the world (since that device works the other way around aswell and can lure the dragon and it’s minions to certain waypoints) in the hands of a emotionally challenged child who at the 1st sign of not getting what she wants carries that weapon out into enemy territorry for the inquest to pick up.
To be fair, the Inquest can still easily get their hands on it later. Once the Arcane Council and whoever runs the waypoint network are done making modifications to it and the waypoints, the device’s blueprints will most likely be recorded and it will be put into storage. The Inquest can simply break in and steal it afterwards.

The only stupid thing getting in the way of doing this is the “excessive messaging” blocker. The times I do this, usually in a slow server, I get blocked after about 30-40mins of messaging, and it can seem to last for 20+ minutes.
I’m sorry Anet for trying to help out my fellow players.
They aren’t forcing people to make, but players don’t have a valid decision whether to make it or not since they’re not told what it makes! Players are induced to make it by giving the items out as part of the living story. Once you have eight bits of questy rubbish in your backpack the natural inclination is to chase around and make it, and you only find out whether it is worth it a long way down the road.
Is it terrible hard to ask the player community? All you have to do is go to LA and ask, “What does these items make?” and “Is it worth it?”. There are nice enough people out there that will give you the information you need. It’s only a complete unknown if the player willfully turns a blind eye to it.
I’m an old fashioned gamer and I don’t believe that players should have to look outside the game for information, especially when it comes to a task given to everyone. If players really are expected to use web resources then those web resources should come with the game and not be reliant upon the community.
Again, you don’t have to go to outside resources to be told how to do it. You only do that if you want to be lazy. That’s why I said, “I’m sure at that point people will have a lot of forewarning about the lengthiness of the process by the community at large.” All you have to do is ask your fellow players for the information.
I’m guessing that it might be Faolain. As Trahearne said, “I don’t know. But, I intend to find out. Someone with a heart full of darkness.” It just about utterly confirmed now that Mordremoth and the Nightmare are tied together, especially since they threw the Shadow of the Dragon at us.
Faolain is (still?) the leader of the Nightmare Court, she’s supposedly the one to have seen the darkness first, and she’s been missing in action for nearly two years now. If she wasn’t corrupted or under Mordy’s influence already, she probably very high on his hit list at the moment.
You guys are sort of missing the point. The complaint isn’t that they are rushing to the avatar, (well rushing…you clearly see the firstborns getting away because they know it’s fake), it’s that some of them are trying to tend to her “wounds”.
A fake avatar doesn’t have wounds. Just as there is no point in having an avatar on the ground. If the Pale Tree can’t even talk, how can she still have the strength to summon an avatar only to have it face down on the ground ?
The avatar doesn’t have wounds, but it does show representations of the actual wounds sustained by the Tree on it’s body. Something that might come in handy when it comes to actually going out and mending the Tree. They might be able to tell just where the injury is located, and if an injured area is healed enough for them to move onto another area by seeing if the wound on the Avatar has faded or not.
Unless we have the full details of how the Pale Tree forms/formed her Avatar, we can’t really fully judge how it should act in certain circumstances. We only know that it’s there because the Pale Tree is being polite. Though, to me, since it is called an “avatar” that implies a bit more than a simply mental projection. It is a manifestation of a small part of a greater whole. It may not have physical substance, but it could very easily have magical substance like a ghost or spirit.
For all we know, the Avatar is simply existing because it has a small amount of magical reserves, and now that the Pale Tree is unconscious and can’t supply it with anymore magic, it will fade in a certain amount of time.
When she was injured, it was represented visibly by her avatar. In many ways, the avatar is her “face”. It’s not her entire body or being.
When sylvari run to the avatar, it’s because that’s their point of contact with the vast creature that is their Mother Tree.
Good thinking too, Electro, about the chamber being almost like the “heart” of the Pale Tree.
It’s like a reverse voodoo doll.
Any damage sustained to the Pale Tree itself is reflected on it’s Avatar. The Avatar itself might be useless, but the healers can still check it over to see where the most extensive injuries are though. Once they know where the critical injuries are located on the Avatar, they have a better understanding of where the Pale Tree itself is most injured. That way they can deploy menders to the key locations to better stabilize the Pale Tree’s condition, instead of just sending them around the Pale Tree to heal blindly.
And if the chamber could be consider the Pale Tree’s “heart”, it would make sense for the menders to go there first. They dragon, minions, and vines tore that chamber up during the battle. If the chamber is possibly the center of her being, they would have to work to mend and stabilize that area before moving onto and healing the other areas.
Wow…
I’ve have heard of angry nitpicking, but geez… this thread has got to take the cake…
So the Sylvari run to the Avatar of the Pale Tree…
Big flipping deal!
It gets the job done of visually showing the players that the Pale Tree is hurt after that attack.
I would have to agree. It’s like saying, “How dare someone run to their mother after seeing her get viciously attacked!”.
The Sylvari know that the whole Pale Tree itself is their mother, but if they are anything like me, I always picture the Avatar when I think of her. As Angel said, that’s the “face” she has given herself. In a moment of panic like that, I don’t blame them at all when they ran to her face to see if she’s alright.
(edited by Erukk.1408)
If it is then they’ll have a lot of players ending up very disappointed after they invest an increasing amount of time into these quests only to see the next stage needing even more time as well, until they turn into the biggest grind in the game
I very much doubt many players thought any theoretical precursor crafting would NOT be a lengthy timegated process. Even though any crafted precursor would probably be account bound, it’s still a very sought after and expensive commodity.
I would rather spend several weeks to a month of timegated scavenger hunting, where I can actually see I’m making progress, compared to farming an ridiculous amount of gold to either chunk into the MF or outright buy it. Not to mention, I would have to farm up another ridiculous amount of gold to do/buy all the legendary components as well.
(to make something they might not even want).
Just like this backpack, they aren’t forcing people to make it. Any type of precursor crafting, just like legendries, is entirely optional. I’m sure at that point people will have a lot of forewarning about the lengthiness of the process by the community at large. If not, there will be easy to look up guides on Dulfy and the wiki showing the many step by step introductions.
but trahearne also didn’t get any new lines recorded, and still had plenty of dialogue.
Trahearne probably didn’t get any new lines because some people spent the last two years complaining on how horrible his VA was.
It could be evidence, a red herring, or just the writers poking fun at the forumites. I was surprised when one of the nobles in that mission brought up the fact the queen walks around barefoot. I know that was a bit of a joke going around the forum awhile ago.
People are missing the obvious here. Anet has added to the game a very lengthy scavenger hunt in which the player builds/grows an item of (mostly) increasing value. You don’t think this very same method can’t be applied to something else?
/wink
/wink
/nudge
/nudge
This is probably a precursor to precursor crafting. Pun intended. Anet is probably test driving the system with this backpack.
Since they separated the feature patches from the LS ones, there will probably be a mid-season break every four to five months. Not to say that the mid-season break is actually the middle of the season, and that we are half way through the season already, but it’s just a break that happens sometime during an active season.
Would it make you feel better or worse if we told you that ArenaNet is planning to take a break from story updates, and the next installment might not come until October?
Though I’m sure I’m in the minority, I’m actually looking forward to the (hopefully) short break. It will give me some time to level my few alt stragglers, mop up the LS with the toons that haven’t finished it already, and it will give me some time to wind down a bit from gw2 in general.
As much as I love the game, me grinding out geodes and fossils in Dry Top for the last month or so for the ambrite weapons has been killing my interest lately. Plus, I’m sure there might be a couple of things in the feature pack that might interest me to come off my breather anyway. lol
I’m not going to get my hopes up on anything Mursaat related, lest they get crushed, but the Bloodstone would be a safe bet since it’s nearby. It’s been awhile, but I don’t remember that Bloodstone having so many crystalline offshoots though. It was a bit jagged, but in the cinematic it was positively prickly. Maybe Glint and/or the Zephyrites have been redecorating it over the years? Time will only tell I guess.
Bah! I can’t remember the words the PC used to describe the leak’s actions, but my first thought was it could be Faolain.
Baseless speculation is baseless though.
It’s called headcanon. Unless they make a point of it story wise, MMORPGs are always going to have a rather blank player character. The developers give the players the world, the cast of characters, and the storyline. The players can then fill out their own story for themselves.
Now I have to leave quick, lest I laugh myself sick with the thought of Naruto having a “balanced” world. Lol
Glint’s Baby is the chosen one.
Pretty much this.
Also, the golden city with the pillars and towers far out in the Maguuma?
Abandoned. Mursaat. City. #YouHeardItHereFirst
I’m praying that the very theory with which I first appeared on Guild Wars Guru in 2009 will finally be proven correct…
.
Don’t be so cruel as to get my hopes up…
The first mission was kinda “meh”. It’s nice that they dabbled in those sorts of missions, but the lack of dialogue choices kinda made it a bit subpar, because a lot of the choices were between “stupid/abrupt” vs. “smart/sly”.
We all know that the mission was about being subtle with the information gathering and for us not to draw attention to ourselves. There shouldn’t be an option to have our character to scream out, “you’re a traitorous liar!” to the person we’re questioning. Since most of the interrogations weren’t voice acted, you should have probably at least gave us a bit of a dialogue tree, maybe 4 choices each round, and the different questions you ask give you certain amount of points towards the meter. Best choice give us zero points, and it progresses from there.
Second and third missions were nice, but I think Taimi gave in a bit too easily at the end. She was probably still in shock at that point, but right after your character mentions “it’s for the greater good!” she flips and gives it over just like that. After she ran away and gave everyone hell, I would think she would still be a bit more argumentative on the subject.
The last mission was great, but the character’s speak to the leaders was a bit generic. This would have been a great place to ham it up a bit. The leaders all understand that Mordremoth is a huge threat, but each of them still have their own problems. The character could have went into better detail as of why he’s such a huge threat. The attacks on the forts and the waypoints are examples and starting off points, but they shouldn’t have been used repeatedly over and over again as a point.
Smodur was a bit of a stickler. The forts were a good example, but I think the player should have brought up it being attracted to magic. Ascalon is probably filled with different magical trinkets, and the Flame Legion wields all sorts of potent magics and artifacts. The vines are already on BC doorstep, if the FL really wanted too, they could have probably lured it to BC pretty easily.
The hunger for magic could have been used on Phlunt’s dialogue too. Rata Sum is a huge magical epicenter, and it’s already within reach of Mordy already. If it wasn’t for the story writing and the fact it would take a huge amount of resources to change it, Rata Sum and the surrounding labs would probably be wrapped up in vines by now.
As for the cinematic. I’m guessing it’s either another one of Glint’s eggs or a very important piece of Glint herself. Maybe her heart? Who knows. It would tie into the Master of Peace’s mysterious mission, and the fact he was carrying something away in his backpack.
What I really want to know though, is what were they structures releasing the beams of light rising out of the clouds/dust/whatever?
With the current quality of the primary plot-telling under the Living World team, I don’t think we’ll be getting such ‘elaborate’ twists.
I understand what you mean. But, to be fair, they already achieved a similar “surprise twist” with the “Ascalon, I free you from this curse!” trailer.
~MRA
It wasn’t much of a surprise plot twist to Konig. If I remember right, he predicted the ritual would fail and Rytlock would be “put on a bus” the same day that trailer got released.
And low and behold…
What are the chances right now? 0.01% Though, that might increase in time. If I remember right, the devs said they want to expand the weapon list for each profession before adding anymore in.
If he’s going to have a dragon shaped champion like Jormag and Kralk, they are either going to use the same model used in the Sylvari tutorial or build off it.
Whether or not he’s ever going to have a humanoid one or something like the Eyes of Zhaitan is anyone’s guess.
i’m thinking we will get a watchwork invasion 2.0 this week
mordremoth unleashes flying seeds that pollute the tyrian continent
He wouldn’t need flying seeds though, since he can simply grow them from the vines that run beneath a good portion of the zones already.
clusters keep on dropping and they lose value everyday so just sell it
you can farm them so fast again anyway
or probablysoon buy 50 clusters of the tp for the price for which you sold one now
This would be true only if Anet never releases another use for them. The only use for them now is to build/grow the new backpack. Once people are done with that, there’s nothing to do with them other than to sell them to someone who is still doing the backpack or hording them.
If they do add another use for them though, especially a repeated use like some type of crafting, you can fully expect them to rise in price again. And if they are used in the next stage of the backpack in the upcoming LS, you can expect a huge spike in prices on the first couple of days.
Similarities sure, but the vine is still touched by Mordremoth’s corruption, hence it still having the purple color. The Pale Tree obviously not corrupted and uses a different color scheme.
The cultivated seed we get from finishing the backpack might be closer in similarities in the future. If the seed grows into an uncorrupted plant, it could be an example used in the Pale Tree’s case. She herself isn’t an Mordy minion, but one of her ancestors could have possibly been one.
(edited by Erukk.1408)
It depends on how it’s broken down and what’s considered part of the LS or not.
For me, I usually finished the story portion of the LS is a matter of hours. After that, I usually spend the rest of my game day exploring around and looking up the new stuff they’ve added. Next couple of days or so, I’m usually trying to do the different achievements they have added, and anything after that is follow up.
The follow up part is usually what takes the longest for me and most people, and it’s where most of the gameplay hours goes towards. In regards to the first two LS of this season, the different recipes would be consider follow up to me, and I’ve been spending the last couple of days trying to find two more fossils to finish up all the weapons I want. The last LS’s follow up would be the scavenger hunt for the backpack item.
With us possibly working on the cultivated seed backpack with the next episode of the LS, I guessing that the Pale Tree(s) might be the product/offspring of a nurtured Mordy minion. They are still connected to Mordremoth, but they aren’t actual minions, since with each passing generation of vine/Pale Trees/whatever, that connection lessens by a degree.
I’m guessing this might be their way of trying to achieve a happy medium between the “Sylvari are/aren’t Mordremoth minions” crowds. They aren’t minions since they have free will and are generations removed from his corruption, but they are still susceptible to him by their past familial connection.
(edited by Erukk.1408)
Since we know from the next trailer that the Pale Tree is seemingly going to be attacked in the next episode, I would imagine that the, “ …leader will die. The rest will fall in line. We will not fail. ”, is directed towards her.
If she dies, the shielding she provides to the Sylvari would fall, and once that happens, that makes them easy targets for corruption.
- What is the current state of the charr-human peace negotiations towards the signing of the treaty?
Slow (very slow) but making progress. The Black Citadel and Divinity’s reach are forging a good working relationship and both governments are committed to the peace process, but each has significant portions of its population that are suspicious or even hostile to the notion of peace with their traditional enemies. Hammering out the details of the treaty remains a contentious and time-consuming process.
And…
Your Herald
An Invitation to Caudecus’s Manor
Hail, mighty hero!
I hope that you are well! The neighborhood is buzzing with excitement about you! I’ve had word that there will be a party celebrating the charr/human peace negotiations in Queensdale. The reception will be at the Manor of Lord Caudecus, overlooking the shire of Beetletun, and will be attended by diplomats from all the major races. Captain Logan Thackeray is concerned for the safety of Queen Jennah, will be attending, and will need support. A hero of your merit should attend the soiree and offer what help you can.—Thanks, Your Herald
PS – We understand that Zojja will be attending as well as part of the asura delegation, but we don’t know why. She is always a wild card, so be cautious.

The new trailer is out…
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/the-dragons-reach-part-2-begins-on-august-12/
Taimi and Braham are both in Dry Top with what appears to be an extra large Mordy minion, and it would seem that the Pale Tree is going to be attacked. I don’t think I saw any racial leaders, so we’ll have to see how that goes.
Actually, I would prefer if they dropped the whole 2 week rush charade schedule thing altogether for one large patch once or twice a year. While we have other filler (non crucial plot driven) content like the normal festivals or other side actives. Even as small as getting something old from GW1 back into GW2. Remember the bottle of grogg on talk like a pirate day? Those small events were fine on their own, while most of big epic stuff would be left for year to pass. We all don’t have a short attention span; we have other things to do while we wait. Quality over quantity will make the content less forgettable.
So players can rush through six months to a year’s worth of content in a matter of weeks, and they spend the rest of the time complaining about the utter lack of new content and long waits in between the patches afterwards?
No thank you.
