“The Last of Us”? However, the tendrils in the recent trailers seem to prefer to thrash/choke the life out of the animals than converting them. Guess we will have the answer in a few hours time :/
Something along that line. Less fungus and more like overgrown vines using the body as a simple framework.
Though, if Mordy isn’t in the corrupting business, it’s missing out on a huge wealth of information, since Elder Dragons supposedly know everything that their minions know.
You could be right. one of the miners from prosperity was complaining of hearing things, and that being in the mine made his brain feel itchy.
Makes me think fungus.
Though, he is mammalian, and Sylvari being plants, probably already have a mechanism far more advanced to combat fungi than humans, even elder dragon fungi. especially since corruption of sylvari seems to be more mental and through the dream connection (or lack-there-of).
What I was thinking of might be a bit more graphic, but I’m hoping for something like that as well.
Mordy releases some type of corruptive spore, which animals inhale, and they slowly take root and/or grow in the animal’s lungs and nasal cavity. The nasal cavity would allow for easy access to the brain, and the lungs for the rest of the body. The conversion process would probably be horribly painful, and possibly gruesome, but the end result would be a dragon minion.
Nature isn’t pretty, and neither should be that Elder Dragon’s style of corruption.
Hm, pretty specific. Well there goes that theory.
Who da heck is E< i feel like this is a thing where Anet is never gunna reveal who E is, and just use E as a tool to instruct players for the living world.
I guess his identity will just continue to be a Mr. E.
One problem though. Neither the Six or the human race are native to Tyria.
Right, that is according to human history, though. They sort of wrote themselves into history as being brought there by the human “gods.” I am wondering if the human history is messed up though.
No, it’s according to WoG.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/Angel-McCoy-Interview/page/3#post2821776
> Humans (including Canthan humans) were brought to Tyria (from…no spoilers!). They are not native to Tyria and did not come with much magic of their own. From a human perspective and oral tradition (that can get warped over time), they say the gods were giving them magic, but the reality was that the dragons had gone back to sleep, and the gods felt it was safe to begin returning magic stored in the Bloodstone to Tyria. The gods (not only Abaddon) “unsealed” the Bloodstone and magic flowed back into the world. Humans and other sentient races of the time began using it.
One problem though. Neither the Six or the human race are native to Tyria.
Because last time the Mursaat were faced with the choice between hiding or staying to help the other races, or helping the other races hide, and they just left. He isn’t going to help them when historically he has no reason to. The dragons as a threat can be avoided and it’s been 250 years you’d presume he isn’t still incredibly weak.
Yet we don’t know how their phasing ability fully works, because if every single Mursaat had to ability to fully phase out of Tyria on their own on whim or when they are in danger to protect themselves, why didn’t they abuse that ability more in gw1? It could have at least saved their race from genocide by the hands of the player and Titans.
If Lazarus was stuck on Tyria, because he lost his full phasing capabilities for whatever reason, he would be forced to protect himself from the Elder Dragons. He might be invisible, but that in no way protects him from any sort of damage or the threat of corruption at all.
As for the other races proving the Mursaat wrong, that’s not necessarily true, we have no idea really how the cycles work and it is entirely possible Zhaitan will simply be replaced? Who knows. And what proof is there for him that Zhaitan is truly dead? Maybe he would just think that like the last cycle the current races had managed to put Zhaitan to sleep.
Even if he doesn’t believe they killed Zhaitan, he still knows the other races can still take an Elder Dragon down and slowly cull its forces. We aren’t sure if the Zhaitan problem is solved, but its an example that the problem can at least be dealt with. Which is a huge step up from hiding in a corner until the monsters go away.
As to exploiting the situation, simply leaving them to deal with the dragons WOULD be exploiting, or at least making the most of, the situation. Regardless of whether or not he interferes the Dragons are going to be wreaking havoc on Tyria for quite some time, he gains nothing by speeding that up. If he wants to take out revenge on countless generations of humanity he is going to want to do it personally and he would most likely want them to know it was him – you get the pleasure from watching people know that you are exacting your revenge, not from hiding in the shadows watching them think something else is responsible for what is happening. If you’re going to be evil then you have to do it right.
Which still hinges on the theory that Lazarus can still fully phase out of Tyria.
And there is a great deal he could gain by speeding it up. The Elder Dragons, from what we seen anyway, seem to be naturally slow. They are devastating, but they don’t seem to be quick to rush anything. They seem content to sit on their claimed land and slowly expand it.
If the other races are allowed to recover before each bout with the next Elder Dragon, that makes them all that much stronger. They rally their forces, gather resources, but more importantly they expand on and improve their technology and magic at an accelerated rate . Which is the biggest threat to him from the other races.
Once they reach a certain point, Lazarus could be deemed a non-threat, because he could be easily detected and killed. The only thing going in his favor at the moment is his magical might, knowledge, and the fact he’s invisible and “unseen”. If he ever makes himself known in a grand way, that will paint a huge target on his back, because you know at least the Shining Blade would be after him.
If he can force confrontations between the other races and the Elder Dragons, and possibly control some of the circumstances, he can deal with his Elder Dragon problem as well as cripple and drain resources from the other races.
Edit: Here’s a random thought. After going through Omadd’s machine and becoming ‘Scarlet’, she also gained the ability to grow/summon vines. Something she wasn’t able to do before. I wonder how similar those were to the vines and thorns we’re encountering presently, which we again assume are related to Mordi. It would seem very odd if none of it ended up related in any way.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/short-story-what-scarlet-saw/
The Sylvari as a race has the ability to grow and manipulate plants like that. It’s how they grow their leafy armor/weapons, build their houses/bases, and it’s where the Sylvari racial skills comes from.
onemantankwall, nobody likes excuses. Stop using them. Either you have information we don’t know about that confirms your claim or you’re misinterpreting ambiguous sources out of information we already know of, to state claims of truth that are unconfirmed by the devs.

The whole “Commander” topic is another discussion entirely.
Bottom line is that, at the beginning of the Pact (almost 2 years ago in-game time), you were “The Commander.” After Zhaitan was killed, the Pact continued on and you went off into the world to do stuff. At that point, other commanders were brought on, and you become “A Commander.” And you became a commander who had lots of other things to do besides running an army that was repairing, preparing, and stocking up for the next big battle with the Elder Dragons. We could not build a story on that alone, not a good one that made sense, not considering where we want the story to take you.
Any time anyone calls you “The Commander” now, it’s someone being nostalgic. It’s perhaps more correct to say you were “The First Commander.” That helps us explain why you’ve been running around the world saving people as opposed to being locked in a war room with Trahearne. I’ll see what I can do to get this explanation into the game.
In conclusion, I’ll just say again that we do pay attention to the forums, and thank you for posting your thoughts.
Except the Mursaat have shown no desire to aid in killing the Elder Dragons presumably because they don’t think it can really be done. He would just phase out of the world like they did last time, why on earth would he help the other races – even if it meant he could make them suffer later. No make sense.
Because the Elder Dragons are a much bigger threat to his existence than the other races are? “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Or in his case, “The enemy of my enemy is still my enemy, but I will let it slide… for now”
And if he’s still around, the other races proved the Mursaat’s assumption wrong when they took down Zhaitan. That leaves him with a golden opportunity. Here are multiple huge threats to his existence, and here are his enemies throwing themselves life and limb at the problem to take them down.
Why wouldn’t he want to exploit that situation?
If I remember right, Logan had a conversation with Taimi after the Marionette fight that mentioned waypoints. I can’t seem to find the conversation on the wiki, but Logan was trying to get Taimi back to Rata Sum, and Taimi said something like, “Are you going to pay for the waypoint back?” Logan replies with something like, “There goes my next paycheck.”
So, moral of the story, waypoints might have been implied to be expensive lore-wise. This, combined with the “you can only use waypoints you have actually came across” rule, makes it so that the population of Tyria can’t teleport around willy-nilly.
The small fee that players pay could probably be filed under “game mechanic/gold sink”.
He forces the confrontation between the races and multiple Elder Dragons, makes it so that the allied races suffer major loses, and then he pulls some strings and maybe helps them from the shadows to kill the remaining Elder Dragons. That way, as you said, he could just enslave the weakened survivors afterwards and make the countless future generations suffer.
Since we know that Tyria is about to be attacked by giant Elder Dragon vines, I doubt there will be much to celebrate anytime soon.
To go even further into the realms of sci-fi/fantasy/steampunk/whatever, the identity of the Entity is revealed to be…… the Steam Brain!
Dun~Dun~Duuuuunnnn!
j/k
The Mursaat phased out of the world in order to escape the dragons, I don’t think Lazarus, even hellbent on revenge, would be willing to interact at all with an Elder Dragon or orchestrate events which would bring about the destruction of Tyria.
Depending on just how angry he is, he might be willing to do it is there is a good chance of them destroying each other. Still one hell of a risk, but I doubt he has much to live for now, other than revenge.
Steam creatures weren’t a retcon though. As Angel pointed out, the steam creatures were at Lornar’s Pass, and in great numbers, since launch. That means they were there at least at the same time as the Asuran PS. It didn’t make much sense timeline wise, but we had nothing else to go on. We had to settle on chaos rifts and them replicating like rabbits to try and explain it.
Just because it was the only explanation at the time didn’t make it the correct one. The steam creatures’ origins got expanded upon, but that doesn’t make it a retcon.

I’ve noticed a vine @ fort marriner but it is not “activated”, only due to slow environment rendering, you can see it for a brief second, so I assume that all vines are already placed, just a server event that need to trigger them I think.
I’ve been using the slow environment rendering to see if a can spot a couple of vine as well. I just stand far back enough, so the object is out of view, then slowly walk forward just enough, I can usually see them for a splint second.
I haven’t checked many, and I’m not sure if they will actually be activated later, but I spotted two or three in LA and definitely one at the Concordia waypoint.
All tossed out and the retcon spewed out on an interview on a single french fansite.
And, from my POV, retconned to shoehorn a pretty tired, off the shelf pulp staple into Tyria. Ley Lines. Really? Ley lines… you may as well state “an ancient and powerful wizard did it”.To say that my confidence in lore continuity plummeted would be an understatement.
Moreso, after seeing trope after trope, cliche after cliche piled onto the LS, I do not think some of the writers have any confidence in doing originality, to the point of retconning original concepts and replacing them with cliche.
People seem to be forgetting that Arah(exp) came out long before that interview, and it contained a lot more “supposed” retcons to the Gods than that interview did if I remember right.
As for seeing trope after trope, and cliché after cliché, that’s what comes from writing. There is hardly an original idea anymore, and writers can only put their own spin on common story elements. The same can be said for both gw1 and gw2. Both are filled with common tropes, which isn’t really a bad thing, and clichés, which are unavoidable at times. They are enjoyable though, and that’s all that matters in the end.
I think the wiki has errors and when it contradicts in-game sources, the game wins.
Well… It contradicts an in-game source now. But from what I got out of what Angel said, that is only because the devs’ Big Book of Lore was missing that part of info from that prerelease interview, and the wiki didn’t have the citation needed to prove it was actually canon and not fan speculation.
So I was just wondering if they are keeping the new Scarlet/Sylvari timeline, since they already maybe built around it, or if they are going to correct the accidently goof made canon.
I think the only in-game source for Scarlet’s new birthday, and the new Sylvari timeline, is the new book in the Priory. It would be pretty easy to just patch in a “Second Edition” of the book that fixed that “misprinting”. They could even go meta and blame it on citation problems. Though, depending on if they were printed in bulk or on order, those RIP Scarlet shirts might be s.o.l.
So, I guess the question now is the new timeline for the Sylvari and Scarlet canon? Or was that a goof because the wiki didn’t have the citation needed on the subject?
Sometimes it feels as if the lore community checks the consistencies better than the writers.
This is why they need to either put a timeline and codexes in-game or have a dev help with the wiki or something. Something to add a bit of dialogue between the devs and players so they can more easily check one another before stuff like this happens.
OP is blowing stuff out of proportions, and the wrong stuff at that.
As Yogimaru and FlamingFoxx said, lore interested players are upset that the dev basically put an asterisk behind all the lore/canon that isn’t in game. The asterisk standing for, “this may be subject to change in the future”.
We can still craft theories and try to predict stuff, but it gets difficult when a large portion of GW’s lore comes from out of game sources. That little (*) puts a lot of lore in a state of limbo. We can believe it’s true, but with the new dev statement, we can never really be sure now. The ambiguity is very frustrating.
Where is that picture taken?
Anyway how many vines emerging near waypoints are accounted for so far?
-Fort Salma waypoint,
-Falcon Waypoint,
-a few waypoints in Brisbane Wildlands (but that was to be expected).
It’s the Tunnels Waypoint in Brisbran Wildlands. Though given the fast rate it is spreading, I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple more are… entangled in a few days.
The area with the human style windmills could possibly be the zone between Kessex and Lion’s Arch.
Scarlet is so amazing, she altered timelines!!! What can’t this sylvari do!!! /s
I dunno, it feels like altering the timeline of an entire race for a single character’s story is one of the most Mary Sue things you can do.
More along the lines of them trying to hard, and in doing so, they caused a bit of a bigger disaster.
If they just kept her timeline cluttered, she might have seemed a bit of a Sue, but we the players have already dealt with that personally. They could have left bygones be bygones, since we had almost a year to get over that. Instead, they tried to give her a believable backstory, and in the process, they mucked up the timeline because they seemingly ran out of room and caused another lore kerfuffle by basically putting a (*) by all the canon not in game.
(*): This canon might be the subject to change in the future.
Attached is the path. Some of them i notice are flickering, some aren’t but have vines and some have both the flicker and the vine.
Pretty much pointing to Lion’s Arch, where the Breachmaker disturbed the ley line. I wonder if the next map we get is the one between LA and Kessex hills, and not the rest of Dry Top.
Maybe now we’re able to see how the ley line continues, the vines seem to follow it.
Hmm… I’m not sure about that exactly. If it was following the ley line surge that the Breachmaker sent off, it would have went through Metrica Province, since the surge was clearly shown to go through the ley line intersection beneath the Thaumanova Reactor during the little cinematic.
Attached is the path. Some of them i notice are flickering, some aren’t but have vines and some have both the flicker and the vine.
Judging by the teaser trailer, I would imagine those vines are snaking their way to Timberline Falls.
As sad as it might be, we might have to just stick with the usual “it’s canon until they say it isn’t” approach. It’s just now we can see the dark cloud of possible retcons hanging above us instead of just feeling it.
I’m just hoping that they in no way make a habit of this. I would rather have had Scarlet be a slight Mary Sue genius wise, then them playing around with the Sylvari timeline to help better explain her accomplishments.
The vine is actually choking the WP. The thing is shooting sparks.
For people that haven’t seen it in person yet, since it’s hard to see in a still picture, but there are blue motes winding down the vine from the waypoint. I think its safe to say that the vine is siphoning magic from them now.
Abaddon was maybe the greatest benefactor of humanity. He understood that only the strong should survive. That would have allowed humanity to become the dominating race of Tyria and they could have defeated the dragons already. But instead the other gods took pity on the weak, as they saw themselves in that weakness. And who knows, maybe the humans waging the wars were about to master that magic beyond the gods’ liking. And so they hid behind noble reasons, only to protect themselves. And after they had screwed with humanity and with one of their own, they abandoned everyone, even leaving the now weakened humanity to the wrath of the one they betrayed.
I think a bit too much sympathy for the devil is blinding your views of Abaddon a bit.
If Abaddon had his way with the Gift of Magic, and it fully stayed in place, humanity would be dead. No mastering magic and becoming the dominating race in all of Tyria. Sure, there might have been a single dominating race at the end of it all, but it wouldn’t have been the humans. The whole of humanity would have either been wiped out due to infighting or the other races killing them off slowly but surely.
As from the History of Tyria...
Despite the serpents’ retreat, the gods never halted their work creating the world, and with the benevolence of indulgent parents, they decided to create magic. It was to be a gift to all the intelligent creatures—meant to ease a life of toil and make survival a less arduous task. When they had finished creating their gift, they presented it to the humans and the Charr, the Tengu and the dwarves, the minotaurs and the imps, and all the races of the land.
But the gods had not counted upon one thing—greed.
Wars broke out immediately as the magical races fought for dominance. So much destruction was wrought that humans found themselves at the edge of extinction. When all seemed lost, it was King Doric, the leader of the united human tribes himself, who made the long trek to Arah, the city of the gods, on the Orrian peninsula. He gained an audience with the creators and begged them to help, to stop the wars and bring peace to the land once again.
The gods heard his pleas, and they intervened.
And the Elder Dragons devour and store magic. A magic rich environment, no matter how strong the races living there are, is not a good thing to fight the Elder Dragons on. The Mursaat, Seers, Forgotten, Dwarves, and Jotun weren’t able to take them down in their prime, and that was during a time before the creation of the Bloodstone, where magic had no restrictions and was much more plentiful.
What makes you think the humans would stand a chance given the same circumstances?
You guys should check this out:

Note: this is not my picture but redditor/u/samuirai’s
Mordremoth definately has a thing for waypoints.
Next featured romance from Anet, “Mordremoth/Waypoints.”
On a side note, since its a bit hard to see from that picture, but blue motes are winding down the vine from the waypoint. So I think its safe to say that Mordremoth is siphoning magic off them, and depending on how magically rich they are, it would make an easy explanation on why Mordy might do a wide scale push into Tyria.
It’s because Asuras leave such magical snacks everywhere!
Edit: On a side note, anyone want to place odds on Mordy attacking Rata Sum? If its snacking on the waypoints like candy bars, it only makes sense for it to go to the huge magical chocolate factory where they all come from.
(edited by Erukk.1408)
Maybe Mordy is getting a feel for the magical network that the waypoints use?
If he/it/whatever is able to get a good read on the magical signature of a waypoint, or maybe the connection it shares with the magical network as a whole, Mordy might be able to follow the connections to “feel” for the rest of the waypoints in Tyria.
After that, it a simply matter of just sending vines to waypoint locations, since it’s a good chance that their is some sort of settlement or base nearby.

Erm… Abbadon, one of the six did meddle with human affairs all the time.He first interfered by giving humans magic… and then interfered again by wanting to make humans suffer beyond measure. And the latter happened for sure in GW1 time… from prophecies to nightfall it was all about fighting Abbadon and his pawns.
Seeing this context it is a farce that the gods did not protect the humans in the first place from the corruption of Abbadon’s influence. I still believe those gods to be a self righteous and coward example of just another magical race, that fears the dragons and therefor left. They couldn’t say that, because it would make them look weak, but I think that is pretty much what happened.
From what I remember, they clarified that all the gods took part in releasing the magic from the Bloodstone and giving the “Gift of Magic” to Tyria. But after constant warfare and humanity being pushed to extinction, the gods decided maybe it wasn’t the best idea to release it all at once.
That’s where some of the conflict with Abaddon took place, since he wanted to keep magic just how it was. Even though, you know, humanity facing extinction. “Act with magic, act within reason, act without mercy.”, and all.
Even if it is a retcon, it would be nice of them to expand on their reasonings behind the change, especially after taking a red pen and changing such a large portion of the Sylvari history.
“We did it to better fit the story” is a passable* explanation (read: slightly cringeworthy), understandable too at times, but it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth if that’s the only explanation given.

If I understand this correctly (I’ve yet to play that particular scenario) the pc asuran makes steam brains instead of Scarlet, but now Scarlet “claims” credit?
But given that Scarlet when she was Ceara seemed not above doing a few questionable things and she was rather conceited and arrogant, I wouldn’t put it past her to claim things as “hers” when they might not have been. Or two great minds work alike and they came to similar conclusions.
The Asura PC never made a steam brain/creature. He/she only made the Infinity Ball. When he/she used it, they were able to connect to a possible alternate future where he/she used the steam creatures to conquer Tyria. The Grand High Sovereign labels the steam creatures as his own creations, but he also implies he only developed at a later point of the PC’s timeline.
Mysterious Stranger: You don’t stand a chance. In your world, this technology hasn’t even been invented yet!
That quote has also been proven false. From what we learn for the latest LS, Ceara was the original creator of them in this world. (Note: That since the GHS came from a possible alternate future, and the history differs on certain events.) Ceara developed, experimented on them, allowed them to improve themselves, and finally released them into Lornar’s Pass and Brisban Wildlands years before the Asura PC did the Infinity Ball part of the PS.
I’m still finding the whole situation incredibly funny. People get angry at Scarlet over the most simplest of thing, but when we now have proof that she released self-replicating sentient machines into the world without any sort of know failsafe, no one bats an eyelash at that?
Does no one else read/watch sci-fi?
Oh, and it doesn’t help that we killed their Mom/Creator too!

kitten, if you’re walking through a desert canyon on foot, I’d bet you’re kitten you’d be bringing a backpack full of stuff too.
If it was only supplies though, which wouldn’t have any plot relevance, they wouldn’t have brought it up for notice for the players.
Unless of course, it’s suppose to be a red herring.
I want a friendly centaur, because whoever said that the new group has to be made out of only the playable races?

They will probably release other zones when the LS gets to those areas. People have to remember this is only the very first part of season two, and we still probably have around eight months of the season left.
Sit back and wait.
I rejoined Marjory, Kasmeer, Braham, Rox, and Taimi to search for the Master of Peace before the saboteur, Aerin, could catch him. We found Aerin and pursued him deep into the canyon. Aerin’s behavior was manic, almost like Scarlet’s during her final days. He fought fiercely, but ultimately lost. The Master of Peace said that Aerin wanted great power but was refused. He didn’t explain what that meant, nor did he say where he was headed next. His backpack was loaded with something—probably supplies. He may be embarking on a long journey.
I searched Aerin’s corpse. He was carrying a note with frantic scrawlings that said a “leader will die” and that “the rest will fall in line.” Did he mean the Master of Peace or someone else? I also found some animal hairs on Aerin’s corpse that probably came from livestock back in Prosperity. We should return there and continue our investigation.
— My story
“Probably supplies”. Mhmm…. sure.
I seriously doubt any corruption/evilness of Master of Peace.
Sometimes people have to make important decisions which require sacrafice.
If it’s true that the Master is running away with Glint’s egg, I imagine that nobody else should know about it’s existence.Everyone involved should think it just got lost after the crash.
That would be my thinking.
I’m not sure about the Glint’s egg part, but he’s probably carrying something important in there. I was surprised to find out that the new LS chapters have a “My Story” entry now.

So….
Scarlet is older than the Secondborn, but younger than the Firstborn then.
Yeah………………………………….
I fan-icially dub Ceara, also known as Scarlet Briar, as the first First(and a half)born! Long may she reign! Oh wait…
Show me proof that this has happened anywhere else outside of Crucible of Eternity. Go on, I’ll wait. I’m legitimately curious. Because if you find it then I’ll admit I was wrong and move on as any responsible person will or should. However, consider the following if you can’t…..
Possibility.
I’m not arguing that they do exist in the wild. I’m arguing that it’s possible for them to occur in the wild. There is a big difference.
Though, since you keep on trying to shift the burden of proof to our side of the argument, I’m guessing you have nothing to back up all those very definitive statements you have kept saying? Until you do, this debate is just about over.
They are chasing after a time travelling arch-criminal that is trying to steal Tyria’s most important monuments/objects.
Take a moment to think about what you just said. Now, can you tell me where a quote or statement confirms the existence out there? If the answer is no, we’re in the same boat regardless of our position. Which also goes with what I said, not a single excerpt of lore suggestions the existence outside of the lab.
That’s where we differ. I’m not trying to prove their existence out in the wild. I’m talking about this possible existence out in the wild. The Inquest has shown proof that multi-corrupted can exist, and that leads to the possibility of their existence in the wild given the right circumstances. Probably extremely rare, but possible.
You’re the one that’s trying to prove their nonexistence in the wild. The burden of proof falls on you.
They were all failures because Kudu failed. It’s rather quite simple. That and we still don’t know what transpired to allow him to accomplish it. He was practically trying to turn himself into an Elder Dragon and judging by both Necromancers and Elementalists, whose to say the experiments were even true legitimate test subjects and not imitations?
Success is success, killed in the end or not. Even though we don’t know how he did it, he created a multi-corrupted being, in the form of Kudu’s Monster, under his control. There is no denying that. If you have information that could bring the legitimacy of Kudu’s experiments into question, feel free to post them. Until then, we are only using the facts given to us.
(edited by Erukk.1408)
It’s never happened outside of a lab.
Do you have a dev or in-game quote backing that statement up? If not, it’s still within the realm of possibility.
There isn’t a single blurt or nod in the direction that a beast or being has been seen under the influence of two or more Elder Dragons at any given time. None.
That’s because Kudu was trying to make those multi-corrupted being only respond to him, since he was trying to make his own personal dragon minion army. He succeeded with Kudu’s Monster, but Subject Alpha was a failure on that regard.
I like voice acting for all the characters, but the pragmatist in me just wants to just convert to the “silent” hero approach. It was nice for my character to talk during the PS, but now it’s just going to hemorrhage money trying to get the numerous VAs together for the different races/genders/personalities.
Keep all the npcs voiced, maybe even with voiced replies to questions your character asked and whatnot, but I’d much prefer the silent hero with text box options.
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
Just because we haven’t seen one outside of a lab, doesn’t mean multi-corrupted beings don’t exist out in the world. The Inquest proved it was possible, even if under controlled or abnormal circumstances. So unless we have a dev or in-game quote saying otherwise, we have to lead with the Inquest’s example on this case.
I detest stories that have to use a “deus ex machina” mechanic to forward the story.
I wouldn’t consider Kas’ portal to be a deus ex machina, since that is probably how the spell is used in lore. The players just can’t use it that way because it would be grossly overpowered.
What I would consider a bit of a deus ex machine is Marjory’s “bone bridge”. I seriously had a WTF moment when she pulled that spell out of nowhere.
I would have to agree that they seemed to have fudged up her timeline a bit. 1304 seems a bit too early for her to have been born, on top of it already being against canon, but I really don’t agree with her being a Secondborn either. I’m more in line of thought with Aaron, with her being a close third cycle Sylvari or maybe even a fourth cycle.
After eight years of voracious study in the Grove, Ceara had learned all she cared to from her extended family. Her people were accomplished hands at many key disciplines, but they couldn’t provide the depth of knowledge she craved. She wanted to construct systems as complex as the ones she saw in nature, to build machines as sublime as the living things she saw each and every day. Her greatest joy as a student came from testing those established systems to expose their flaws in aid of strengthening her own designs.
She learned much from the master engineers among her people, but theirs were simple meals that could not sate her hunger. Ceara decided to strike out into the world to find something that could.
If she was a Secondborn, she wouldn’t have much of an extended family to learn engineering from. Unless of course, some of those Firstborns are hiding their master engineering skills.
You would almost say the steam brain trying to manipulate it all. This idea really excites me as I have been curious about Steam Creatures for a long time, like most people. But I think the writers would have made such a conspiracy more obvious as it takes really good storytelling to link everything back to them, so I dont think that is the case.
I would agree. I really hope that they expand upon the steam creatures in the future, since I find they really interesting. Though, I was surprised that Scarlet turned out to be basically the “Mother” of the steam creatures from Lornar’s Pass.
On a side note, I did find it humorous that no one batted an eyelash at Scarlet releasing self-replicating machines out into the wild. It’s like, “Here, don’t mind these replicators/Borg…”
