There are a couple of different ways the airship’s custody could have worked…
Depending on the different modifications the Inquest and Aetherblades did to the airship, the Pact might not want it back. The Inquest isn’t really known for their advances in technology to be totally “safe”, just quick. The Pact might have viewed the airship as untrustworthy afterwards, and they didn’t contest LA’s or Ellen’s claim on it.
Also, since it was used by the group that murdered a political figure of LA, LA did have some claim to it. I guessing that LA’s pirate “Finders Keepers” policy applies after this. The Pact lost it, Aetherblades lost it, LA (and players) seized it, and then it was given to Kiel. The Pact could have asked for it back, but it would only be a mess, and I don’t think the Pact would want to hurt relations with LA over an airship.
What if Zommoros shows up wanting revenge after Scarlet destroyed the mystic forge in LA? How bout it? An angry Djinn on the loose? eh, eh, EH?
He attacks in the form of throwing exploding legendries.
…Pick them up at your own risk.
Why exactly is this a problem? You think Anet is going to constantly adjust the mats required due to current prices?
They shouldn’t do it because of the prices. They should adjust the recipe to be in line with ALL the other ascended mat recipes.
Mithrillium only needs 100 mithril.
Elder Spirit only needs 150 elder wood.
Elonian Cord only needs 150 thick leather.
Yet, Silken Thread needs 300 silk…
It doesn’t help matters at all, since silk is needed for armorsmithing and leatherworking to get it to 400 as well.
I’m having a fun time in a small group. We usually run around the outskirts doing the escort quests and reviving people, since the sheep are too busy mindlessly following the blue doritos.
I’m sad because I leveled tailoring…
Agreed. We get screwed over again because of the absurd cost of the damask recipe.
I personally think we’ll keep growing magical until we rival the magical strength and knowledge of the Elder Races…
…then we’ll destroy everything is a huge technomagical war of epic proportions.
Except when one person goes up to talk to said NPC, no other players can see the conversation. The conversation is only witnessed by the player talking to the NPC. No canon is being broken, because as far as the other players are concerned from a story perspective, no one is talking to the NPC. There’s no canon to break outside of your own. The other players do not exist from a story perspective. The story is still told as if it were a singleplayer game, but the game is made to allow for hundreds of players to be playing it together.
I agree, there’d be a problem if a player goes up to an NPC, the NPC proclaims their love for the player in /say chat, and then another player comes along and the NPC says the same thing to them. But that’s not how it works.
All npc dialogue IS canon, whether it is seen by other people or not. That is why I said anything related to the romance have to be put into instances, since that sets clear ownership of who’s story is being told at the moment. In the open world, with no player having ownership over the story, that story is open to everyone.
So if the love interest acknowledges multiple people in the open world, s/he isn’t breaking the player’s canon. It is putting in place the canon that the LI is dating multiple people. The players might not be able to see it, but they can still turn to one another and ask, “Are you getting the romance dialogue too?”
(edited by Erukk.1408)
Oh those two…
Enough with chitty chatty friendship, give us the Norn-Charr hybrid and let him be the first Guardian-Ranger of the game, unlocking double professions for us all XD
Interspecies coupling can’t produce children in GW.
The reason why the player’s character isn’t in the spotlight, is because the character is a huge mary/gary sue. They have only a generic personality, and s/he is almost perfect. It would be horrible if they were the lead character to the whole thing.
If your best friend was from, say, another country with a very different culture than yours and would suddenly ditch you entirely for something you don’t believe is important, wouldn’t you get upset?
^^This^^
To me anyway, it seems to be a bromance with a conflict of cultures at the moment.
The Norn culture puts heavy emphasis on individualism and the building of one’s own legend. This is in conflict with the Charr’s culture that puts heavy emphasis on warbands, since Charr find their place in society through them.
After having lost her own warband and becoming a gladium, Rox has been trying everything to get into Rytlock’s Stone warband, so she can find her place back in the Charr community. Braham doesn’t understand any of this, since he views her as an excellent fighter as she is, and he thinks she doesn’t need to be apart of a group of people she doesn’t even now to find a place in the world.
The Personal Story does exactly what you say it can’t do. How many infentors of the infinity ball do you think there are? How many best friends do you think Lord Faren has? How many Snaff Savants are there? How many commanders of the Pact are there? The Personal Story is riddled with these kinds of plot threads.
No it doesn’t. As I posted later…
All those events happened in the Personal Story. Personal being the keyword, as canon wise, those actions only happened once, and it was towards or by the player. One player’s PS does not effect or ever conflict with another person’s PS because they are separate entities.
The same applies to Bioware’s games as well. Each player is playing in their own little alternate universe, and no one player’s actions ever effect the others. That’s very easy to pull off since theirs is a single player game, but it would be much more difficult to do with MMOs. The multiplayer aspect allows for greater chances of breaking each player’s canon.
As CHIPS said, if a group of people are all romancing the same person, and they all talk to him/her at once in the open world, what does s/he do? If s/he only acknowledges one person, that will be breaking everyone else’s canon. If s/he acknowledges everyone, that wouldn’t break the player’s canon, but it would make it so that the love interest is in relationship with multiple people at once. And if s/her doesn’t acknowledge no one at all, that is a huge snub towards the player, and it wouldn’t make sense if you are in a relationship with someone.
The only way they could make it somehow work, is if they put everything in personal instances, tie it to only the PS, and have no open world interaction at all.
Death to all Quaggans. This is all.
I’m guessing you support the clubbing of baby Quaggans?

As for my answer, the Firstborn that developed the meditation method used by the Soundless. It sounds like a story just waiting to happen.
And they’ve admitted that they know many of us are upset by this and claim they are looking into solutions, but they refuse to talk about what it is they are planning. Considering they had a Living Story CDI, that would have been a fantastic place to get feedback on whatever it is that they’re planning, but obviously they didn’t’ want our feedback on it.
I’m ready to just hit the uninstall button from their lack of communication alone. I’m tired of feeling disappointed and bitter. I’d love to give more constructive feedback, but since they won’t discuss the issue, I’m not able to.
So yeah. That’s what I think after a year of Living Story.
It’s because they can’t discuss stuff in development in detail with the public. Much less future development in detail. Most, if not all, major game developers are like that. They do feed your feedback, but don’t expect detailed reply on what they plan to do in the future back. They aren’t allowed.
Back on subject. It started off slow and rocky, with missteps here and there, but overall, it has been a nice progression so far.

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Erukk.1408
We destroyed the Tower of Nightmares months ago, and yet I still see parts of it effecting Kessex Hills.
Just because Scarlet’s story is coming to an end doesn’t mean there will be no trace of her after she is gone.
What if her attack on Lion’s Arch attracts the attention of Mordremoth which then decides to wake up and crush LA? Should we remove it and leave it forever then just because Scarlet’s story is over?
And why assume the Council will survive at all? And if they do, do you really think they would be able to keep ruling after failing completely with their task of defending Lion’s Arch?
I wasn’t arguing that there wasn’t going to be any trace of Scarlet still left. I was arguing that there would be no reason for her alliances to stay in LA after she is gone though. She is the only thing keep all those alliances together in a cohesive force, and once she is gone, all those fragile alliances will come crashing down.
The Dredge and Flame Legion barely tolerate each other as it is.
The Nightmare Court and Krait was simply using one another.
The Krait are slavers, and the Dredge’s whole culture is build on them being ex-slaves.
The Flame Legion and Krait are both religious fanatics.
The Dredge barely trust anyone, let alone anyone so sadistic like the Nightmare Court.
The Aetherblades are simply there for the loot.
And the Watchwork are robots.
Once Scarlet is gone, and the players and probably Orders are knocking on Lion’s Arch’s door, what’s keeping the alliances there? Nothing. They would either all flee, or they will turn on one another in a power struggle from the vacuum that Scarlet left.
There is nothing there that confirms (or even hints at for that matter) that Mordremoth will crush LA into dust. The best we have is loose speculation, since we still have no idea what the exactly purpose of the probes are, and what Scarlet is using them for. We have even looser speculation on what one turning green means. All we have summarized for it, is that it is “Not good.”
Why would you assume the Captain’s Council won’t survive? They wouldn’t be any point is killing off so many major character, especially Kiel. As for if they would be able to keep ruling after failing horrible, if they are funding the possible rebuilding of the whole city, ya. Plus, they have successfully ruled that city for years, and they have the influence and money for any possible races to get their jobs back, if it comes to that.
I’m not sure where you get that idea. The living story is effectively an extension of the personal story, the only difference is the method of delivery. Just because ArenaNet continues the story every two weeks doesn’t mean the intention from a story perspective is that each individual player is inconsequential. The story progresses under the assumption that the player participated and was instrumental in it. Marjory did just send us a letter telling us they couldn’t have put Scarlet’s motives together without us, after all. Besides, there’ve been plenty of living world releases with personal story-style instances. Just look at the instance in Lion’s Arch from Origins of Madness.
I would argue that while it has certain personal aspects to it, the living story isn’t personal though. It’s about Tyria, not the player in the end. The LS doesn’t stop for the player, or wait for him or her to catch up before advancing. It goes on with or without him.
The devs have been doing a better job with integrating the player into the LS, and making it feel more personal to them, but that only for the people doing it. What about the people that have taken a break from the game? How it is “personal” to them? They have no idea what is going on, since the storyline has moved on without them, and they can feel totally lost at times.
That’s because the story isn’t about them, it’s about Tyria and the events that are happening in it. The player may play a role in said events, and they may even play a large role in them, but they aren’t necessary for the LS to progress. And if the game automatically assumes the player did events and actions they might have missed? Well… that’s about the biggest definition of an UNpersonal Story there is, since we wouldn’t even be needed for it anymore.

He’s getting moved to Vigil’s Keep.
All essential services that are unique to Lion’s Arch will be redirected to Vigil Keep for the time being, including Asura gates to other cities, Fractals of the Mists, and incarcerated cactus-faced troublemakers.
Like FF said, he’ll probably help retake the city, since his recent dialogue gave a lot of foreshadowing…
“Lion’s Arch justice is…flexible. My sentence can be reduced for good behavior, or someone could buy my billet and I’d be released early to work for them.”
“It’s essentially a work-release program that allows me to earn my freedom early. Most prisoners are billeted to fight in the arena, but that doesn’t appeal to me…even if I could find a buyer.”
He’s probably going to get a buyer soon.

War isn’t won by biomass alone. :P
Nope, it’s won by magical laser cannons targeted to a specific energy signature.
Or, what they would rather have us to believe… Love, friendship, unity, and all that jazz.

Zhaitain was killed by thousands of players. Big Nose Ted blew the orphanage up thousands of times. The White Stag has been captured by the Nightmare Court thousands of times. There have been thousands of seconds-in-command for the Pact. And there have been thousands of Infinity Balls invented by asuran players. But romances is where you have a problem?
All those events happened in the Personal Story. Personal being the keyword, as canon wise, those actions only happened once, and it was towards or by the player. One player’s PS does not effect or ever conflict with another person’s PS because they are separate entities.
If they ever decide to add light flirtation, suitable to the T game rating, to the future PS, I would be fine with that. As it would be in the Personal Story. The Living Story is more open world though, as it solely focuses on the changing events of Tyria and not the player’s actions. Sure, the player may take part in it, but he or she isn’t needed to progress it. That’s why the LS wouldn’t be a suitable place for any relationship content.
Obviously, the nearby grawl are a highly advanced tribe that has developed scaffolding technology.

“For the time being”= temporary change
There is nothing there that confirms (or even hints at for that matter) that they will move back to Lion’s Arch though.
Other than the fact that we know that Scarlet’s story is going to end on March 4th? Without Scarlet leading them, her alliances are probably going to flee the field, and Lion’s Arch is going to be easily retaken afterwards. It wouldn’t make any sense to not move back, repair, and rebuild.
The Captain’s Council is going to have to reestablish Lion’s Arch after all this. Without Lion’s Arch, being a member of said council would be meaningless. The writers would have never held a major election to put a member on it, as well as promising future changes and ramifications regarding the victor, if they were doing away with the whole thing in less than a year. Unless, of course, the writers were hoping to have a kitten storm on their hands.
All essential services that are unique to Lion’s Arch will be redirected to Vigil Keep for the time being, including Asura gates to other cities, Fractals of the Mists, and incarcerated cactus-faced troublemakers.
The emphasis is mine.
“For the time being” implies the move is only temporary. The season finale for the LS on March 4th is probably going to be us retaking Lion’s Arch in a battle against Scarlet’s forces.
Flirting? Maybe.
Romances? Probably not.
It couldn’t fit into the story with all the players, as there would be no way to explain that storyline/canon-wise. Braham couldn’t get Ottilia’s attention, but now he’s in a happy relationship with several thousand players? It just wouldn’t work in an MMO setting with important story characters.
I think the true LA Heroes are those afk commanders pop up their tag and afk in LA -_-
How else would they tell the world they wasted 100g on a blue corn chip Dorito?
Well, I wouldn’t totally mind if most of the alliances went away, but all I want to see is something come out of it… mainly some future named major/minor characters.
Evil Toxic alchemist for hire…
Disillusioned krait fanatic…
Molten brawler mercenary…
etc.
The enemy of my enemy…
…is still my enemy.
I wouldn’t be all that surprised when/if Scarlet gets what she wants, she betrays all those alliances and turns on them. They are simply a means to an end for her after all. She already got what she wanted from them. Scarlet’s only using them for grunt work and cannon fodder now.
Brilliant. It’s essentially training, where one day they’ll enter the Mists to fight those dastardly WvWers.
Ya, I heard those red world WvW deer are total monsters!

They basically stated that all services that were important are being moved to the vigil keep and PS story entrances will be done through a new entrance.
You missed a spot in the interview…
All essential services that are unique to Lion’s Arch will be redirected to Vigil Keep for the time being, including Asura gates to other cities, Fractals of the Mists, and incarcerated cactus-faced troublemakers.
“For the time being”= temporary change
Game mechanics.
This also isn’t really a lore question at all…
Cantha: the place that has a emperor that is so Xenophobic that he kicked out all non-human races and closed off his borders.
Too be fair, unless he discovered the secrets of immortality, said xenophobic emperor is now dead. Whoever is ruling Cantha now is a total unknown.
Good question….
I hope they do it like the Tower…when you first log in to the zone, you ge thrown to an instance, but subsequent log-ins would be live…
Most likely this. If it was live, players would start having nightmarish flashbacks to the karka attacks.
The only difference between much of LA and the typical krait hovel is maintenance and furnishing. >.<
I’ll admit I laughed on that one.
Actually I don’t think chances are slim at all. A lot of the devs have repeatedly expressed interest in going back to Cantha.
If we ever do go back, I can just imagine when their jumping puzzle designers are going to do with the urban sprawl that is Kaineng…
How can they destroy LA? Aren’t there a myriad of personal story quests that take place in it? At the very least I certainly recall the destiny’s edge reuniting personal mission. They’d have to change the person story (essentially retconning past, established lore) in order for LA to be destroyed, no?
All essential services that are unique to Lion’s Arch will be redirected to Vigil Keep for the time being, including Asura gates to other cities, Fractals of the Mists, and incarcerated cactus-faced troublemakers. Personal story steps will be accessible through a new entrance. Hwang’s team has taken steps to ensure that the city will remain fully explorable for map completion, although if you’re especially fond of a particular view…well, you might want to grab screenshots while you can. We were also warned that exploration isn’t exactly going to be as safe as it currently is.
I think at this point they’re all just probably very aware that they can easily destroy Lions Arch if they humour her.
I’m thinking of something along these lines as well. Even if they hate following Scarlet’s orders, all the factions of the different alliances hold no love for Lion’s Arch, and they would be more than happy to destroy it.
Though I have to say, Scarlet seems to like to keep them separate most of the time. The might show up on the same battlefield nowadays, but it’s always in their separate groups. It’s always either a wave of MA, Aether, TA, or watchwork. Never really a mixed wave of them.
Another question to ask about them, is what’s going to happen to all of Scarlet’s alliances once she’s finally gone? She seems to be the only thing really keeping them together. But as much as the different members of the alliances hate each other, they did both get something out of it in the end.
What happens when the Mystic Forge blows up?

Scarlet is going to torture Zommoros and force him to make precursors for her. Once the players come around to kill her, she’s going to stun everyone and then proceed to salvage all those precursors in front of them.
She will be empowered by the tears of anguish and rage….
A
Lion’s Arch, and the Captain’s Council, are wealthy enough that they can finally build a true major city. One that can finally show that LA is the true economic center of Tyria. As much as I like the looks of LA as it is now, it’s was only a city that was slapdashily build out of some wrecked pirate ships.
They should keep the pirate theme, but them should add a lot more elements from all the different races that make their home there.
I’m also hoping that they aren’t going to pull an Angel Grove for the old Power Rangers. Huge monster battle takes place there, and “Oh, Look!” it’s entirely rebuilt the next day! As if by magic!
As Konig said, we don’t have enough details to make a clear prediction. But even then, we still have to probably kill them. It’s either us or them at this point.
Hero-Tron fuses himself with all the destroyed twisted clockwork bodies around him, rewriting and integrating their programing into his own, and he becomes…
Horror-Tron the Destroyer!
What they should do is just release the novel in audiobook form and sell it on the gem store so players can listen to it while playing.
Guild Wars 2
Novelization of Season One: Living Story
As read by: Betty White
I’d totally buy it.
Since we know Scarlet’s story is ending on March 4th, the retaking of Lion’s Arch is probably going to be the “big battle” of the finale. The rebuilding of all the damaged or destroyed parts of the city will most likely start at the beginning of season two of the LS.
I think she’s a little to dignified to have spent the last x number of years living as a cat…
Well, the cat could be totally harmless. But if Harry Potter taught us anything, its always be at least slightly suspicious of long live childhood pets of important characters.

@SirMoogie.9263
Regina Buenaobra:
Rox, Braham, Marjory, Kasmeer, and Taimi are referred to internally as “B-Iconics” (or Biconics) as opposed to our “A-Iconics” or main iconic characters, Caithe, Rytlock, Eir, Zojja, and Logan. They are not a “replacement” for Destiny’s Edge; these characters fulfill a different role in the story. Because members of Destiny’s Edge are so entwined with your Personal Story as well as the over-arching story with Zhaitan, and because the Living World plot lines are taking place at the same time all those other story threads, we couldn’t have the members of Destiny’s Edge splitting themselves between these other areas and what was going on with Living World. This is partly why we introduced these new characters.
I’m hoping this is a misquote on their part, because if it isn’t, that means the timeline is still screwed up.
Yes, looking back, it can all be justified, but that doesn’t change that it was a shoehorn.
Meh, leading characters are always going to get shoehorned into the story one way or another. If she wasn’t there to begin with, we would have probably been sent to get her from DR with the excuse, “She was a Ministry Guard that worked a lot of cases dealing with assassinated nobles, so she’s a poison expert.”
Also Erukk the power is not actually separate from the gods. If Kormir had not absorbed Abaddons power (which was released when we defeated him) then it would have torn the world apart. She destroyed his essence when she absorbed the power – but it was still very much him that she absorbed. So you can’t just go around transferring power – we did have the blessing of the avatars of the gods.
Separate in the sense that a god’s power can be taken from him or her without resulting in death. Like in the case of Grenth taking Dhuum’s power. Grenth might have absorbed Dhuum’s god powers, but he still seems, by in large, whole. Enough to yell at us in all caps anyway, and still powerful enough to pose a threat in the Underworld.
(edited by Erukk.1408)
I thought Marjory went to Kessex and got involved because Kasmeer got involved. The “Great and Gorgeous Mesmer Collective” contacted Kasmeer to go look at the barrier/illusion the Toxic Alliance set up in the lake. Marjory tagged along to keep an eye on Kasmeer and to probably help her investigate.
Why Marjory got involved with the events at the lake later, is probably because she had a sense of decency. The Toxic Alliance were trying to kill and poison an entire region after all, and she had the abilities and skill sets to help people. So she did. Afterwards, she saw Scarlet as a threat to Tyria itself, so she continued on trying to take her down.
(edited by Erukk.1408)
Though I doubt it will happen, if Scarlet’s forces kill the guards at the gate, and they start to try and breach it; the Tengu might be forced to get involved.
(edited by Erukk.1408)
No, not at the moment. If you read the GW wiki you can read more about the history of the human gods.
There is a theory that the Gods may have just been tapping into the power of the dragons themselves, thus their similar abilities, etc. But as far as we know at the moment they are different entities. The gods were much more human like at one point.
I think there is a connection between the dragons and the gods, but not in the way that you are implying.
The only time, that we know of, that the gods tapped into an Elder Dragon’s power was when they modified the Bloodstone, and they unknowingly tapped into Zhaitan’s power.
True, the lore never said one way or another if Menzies was technically a god. Full, half, or otherwise. Since Balth is a ‘full god’ and Menzies is his half brother, one would assume that he’s at least a demi-god. That doesn’t make him ‘not’ a god, just means he’s not one of the ruling 6. Just as Grenth was not originally one of the ruling 6.
No. You might be a half/demi-god, but that doesn’t make you a god. I think of it like from the Greek mythologies. There were numerous demi-gods running around, but that does in no way make them actual gods. They might get special powers or abilities from their godly parents, but they didn’t in no way inherit the full god status.
To be a god in Tyria, of the Six anyway, is that you have to have the “power” of one. What this totally is, is unclear, but it seems to be separate from the gods themselves. It lasts after their death, can be taken/given from one entity to another, and it contains the knowledge from the previous holder.
Yes, they come from the Mists supposedly. The whole ‘they brought the human race’ is something that’s kind of up for debate based on some of the inconsistencies in the lore.
It’s been WoG’ed that they aren’t native.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/lore/lore/Angel-McCoy-Interview/page/3#post2821776
> Humans (including Canthan humans) were brought to Tyria (from…no spoilers!). They are not native to Tyria and did not come with much magic of their own. From a human perspective and oral tradition (that can get warped over time), they say the gods were giving them magic, but the reality was that the dragons had gone back to sleep, and the gods felt it was safe to begin returning magic stored in the Bloodstone to Tyria.
It does’t completely rule out the dragon’s having an affect on their powers though. The gods came to the world after one cycle, left before the next. Perhaps the dragons’ rising causes enough interference that it negates their ability to reach their followers from the mists, in a sense making them go poof. Although, we do seem to be able to access the underworld on occassion…just not Grenth. Makes for some interesting pondering.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Dolyak-Express-Jan-10-2014/page/3#post3545340
Q: Are the Six [gods] really gone or not? Their power is still very much present. Players can call upon the gods’ power with prayers, NPC priests can summon Reapers of Grenth etc., and their statues are still stuffed with energy. So if they left, why are their power still here?
Jeff Grubb: The human gods still exist, and their power is still felt within Tyria. However, they have pulled back into the mists, leaving the humans to stand (or fall) on their own merits. There has been a tendency for the human gods to, um, meddle with their worshippers a bit much, and in the wake of the final battle of Abaddon, they have been trying to cut back. Also, the destruction of the big A and his replacement with Kormir in the Pantheon resolved one of their ties with physical contact with Tyria. So there are ties, but you just can’t ring them up to take on the Elder Dragons.
We don’t really know if the gods came and went at other times because we don’t have the complete history of the world. Even the older races have history that they have lost, and even that would only go back so far. The only ones that might know might be the Forgotten and they haven’t made an appearance in this game as yet.
Still, like I said, it was random. Lots of holes in it, but hey it was fun to poke at in my boredness.
Possible, but without further information, we can only speculate.
Ok let me say it like this: Its funny how on Tyria there are less openly homosexual or bisexual couples and groups than irl in terms of animals (which average at 15% in terms of consistent data for the first and between 40-80% in situational records for the second).
As I said to someone else earlier in this thread, you are trying to apply real world demographics to a fictional fantasy realm. Tyria is not Earth, and you shouldn’t assume they are the same in all regards.
The only way you are mostly getting your numbers for “openly homosexual or bisexual couples and groups” npcs in Tyria is through open dialogue. Not everyone talks about their sex life publicly though, much less in front of random strangers (the player) that could listen in. So unless you want all the npcs to suddenly do so, there is no way to get accurate numbers regarding sexual orientation in Tyria.
