On lvl 10 I was doing lvl 20+ area’s, just fine doing champs in them as well.

At lvl 30, I did nothing but dgns from their, at lvl 42 first time I did Cm 3men.

Never had a problem at any lvl,, taking on much higher lvl mobs and multy of them.

you did not come on here and say this is my opinion.

You came on here and acted like everything you said was 100% true, and that mez completely suck in PvE.

Which in reality, the way you play mez in PvE is not the best and so it harder for you.

The way I play Mez, is not teh best in PvP and so I am not that all good in pvp, actually I die a lot.

However I understand it just how I play.

I am a tank, mez in PvE I can take on 10 mobs fine,, champs dont bother me,, hell I tank dgns in 2 men team, with other guy just dps.

However in pvp,, their are tons of better builds for it.

sword/focus is very best for lvling at low lvls. you put a Warden down and then use tc to pull all into it and then 3 to immb them and then 2, and a couple of attacks,, even at low lvl a mob of 5 will be dead if ya do it right and you will not even be hit.

At lower lvl I sue gs just incase I had to run and sometimes to start out with ebcause number 4 is good for taking control of mobs.

Second even at low lvls a Mez can be a tanky class, esp by lvl 30. Just get tough/power armor.
Use feedback, to control range and decoy just incase ya have to run. Also phant defend is really helpful to help ya survive.

All things ya can do at lower lvl.

I did dgns from lvl 30-80 pretty much to lvl. I was 3 mening dgns,, a lot of the time and now I can 2 men them.

PS just because you play Pvp a lot with Mez, dont mean you know anything about playing it in PvE.

Esp since most of the well like builds in Pvp is useless in PvE and you gotta use a completely different play style.

Ps sorry those are my natural colors, royal purple. With close to ends being pastel violet, and the very ends being ice violet. Which gives a kinda white look, but a purplest white look.

The mask is none culture, but keeping it.
The gloves/shoes are t1, but within a week I will have t3 of them.

Its probably a play style issue I keep going back to the below build and do so much better with it. Having said that I have gone through at least 10 different clips posted here some of which are insanely powerful -like the confusion build against people who keep moving and attacking with high confusion and melt!

Yep pretty much a play style, because personal, I would never use that build.

However you will more then likely never use a build like mine either.

max armor a gaurdian can get, which can get highest is 3.5k and mez can get up above 3.1k.

Not as tough, but close enough that lupic does under 6k to me, while it does over 10k to must people I party with.

Second sword/focus and gs is my weapons.

I of course trait focus, because it trait is awesome.

The mez can be a very scary tank, with all it skills.

@ NatashaK When you say Phantasm I assume you mean builds with +3% dmg for each Illusion?

Touht/vit on all weapons/armor and all acc(rings/backpack/amulet/earrings).

Then 30/30 chaos/ins,,,,,that get ya their, but cant tell ya teh guy traits are anything, because he not told me if I am allow to share his build.

Now personal I go with 20khp and 1.9k tough.

Because my acc got healing instead of vit,,, and I only put 15 into chaos, and 20 into ins. Plus I dont got the exotic backpack yet, since guild not high enough. I have close to 2k tough, when I get backpack,, but thats all.

I’m 10/20/15/20/5,,,,,

This exactly what this build set out to achieve being a jack of all trades a master of none.

How I evaluate is in kill time -thats one of my KPI’s- which is pretty easy for any one to do, use the build on the same kind of normal and veteran mobs and do it over and over until you get a good feel of kill time, down time -not doing DPS- and effort.

While Portal and other utilities have great uses the linked set up seems to do well when applied to all aspects of the game. (Portal+Mirror Images)

As for defense, all of the top mesmer builds have less than 1k Toughness and less than 19k HP -this build is above on both. What this build also adds is 1200 range on Manipulation skills -up from 900- which include Blink..That’s lots of ground for an instant.

As for Staff I’ll agree with you that having another weapon set in bag is useful and I actually do have all the weapons.

I’m sorry but no, not all the top builds have low tough and hp.

I know mutly builds with higher, the highest is one with 2.2 tough,22khp.

And Ive seen that person win in WvW with 1v10 on them.

It not my build, but it a scary as hell build and never seen them die in WvW and in dgns.

Uh and no, I was saying the staff is crap, should never be use with that build.

Plus it not a jack of all trades, not even close to it. It a bad hybrid build. That with some small fix’s will be okay.

Ps tell me your ingame name, and I find you and crush you so many times. That then you have proof that your build need work.

Well focus is a all rounded weapon.

Tc can pull up to 5 enemies to one spot, and it cripples and swifts.
Also if traited both it skills refl projectiles back at enemies.

Then their the Warden, either can be use as a good def buble, are the highest power damage phant. However it tricky to use it perfect, you really gotta learn a lot about it and how to use ya other skills proper to make sure enemies get bomb by them.

Also TC you gotta work with it for a bit before learning how to always place it right to pull enemies where ya want them to be.

Basicially over all, it got a lot more use then a pistol and can be use in a lot more different situations.

Only way pistol could come close to being better is if you the type that stands back and spam phant. On one target that is.

EDIT: you dont gotta do power build, focus works for all state builds.(maybe not so much for CD, but even that one ya can do pretty good with focus)

Well hope ya change out the elites and utilities depending on what you doing.
Because depending on the boss in dgn, are what I am doing in WvW. My elite and utilities can be completely different.

Also not trying to be rude, but I really dont see this build going very far in must case’s.

First with your build the staff is pretty much useless. I would use a sword/pistol(maybe focus) with that build.

Then their the fact that you got low kitten def.

However if you was a true glass cannon, you could get away with it, but from what I seen you are not.

This build is close to a hybrid just add some more def and you can be a good hybrid.

Also take off staff it terrible with this build.

First let me say I cut out your second part, because I agree with it.

I’m a Mez and I dont use this build.
Actually I only use shatter for f4.
Which even that is rare.

Yet I’ve tooking out 1v5 on multy times, and sometimes even against larger numbers.(in WvW, but that’s with using the terrain to my advantage)

In 1v3, i can count on one hand how many times ive died. and I got over 600hrs on this ez charr, with a lot of it in WvW and spvp.

So yes Mez maybe OP, but it not this build that for sure.

Well main thing I wanted to say was, their is multy other good builds out their for Mez.

Well if ya wanna use a sword and you wanna be a major melee.

Then I would trait for it and get a vit/power/tough armor and weapons.

I have it and I have tank 2 warriors, with both being lvl 80 and won.

With no tricks either and just tanking their kitten #8217;s.

Done same with multy gaurdians to.

In general wvw is about mobility, range, and burst.

So focus is just about mandatory. Power/crit and great sword are hard to get away from as well.

Mesmer actually has a ton of viable builds, so keep your mobility up, experiment, and whatever you kill with the best is your go-to build.

A tanky build for mez works wonders in WvW as well.

The mez have a really well thought out theme behind it.

The butterflies and the color,,, both if look into can easily be seen why it is used.

At lvl 35 I brought a set of gear, and use it to lvl 55 and then brought a new set and use that until lvl 80, and kept it until I got enough stuff to get the lvl 80 gear I wanted.

One thing you made a major mistake at is, GEAR NEVER scale, it does not scale down are up.

You see at lvl 80, because their is one type of PvE that mez sucks at and that farming DE for loot.

We have very few skills that is good, because mobs dies within 4 secs of them comming.

Which Mez dont got good abilities for hitting them all every time they spawn.

While a ranger, or a warrior can just spam their aoe without stop and hit every single mobs that summons and so they will get double if not more loot then a mez can get.

The mesmer is not an efficient pve class, which is probably why most people don’t stick with it. You can kill things, but it’s going to be slower than other classes thanks to the setup time of phantasms and shatters. You can survive quite well (even when geared as a glass cannon), but it takes a practice and finesse to make it happen. We’re the slowest class outside of combat afaik.

The only real reason to play a mesmer in pve is for fun. Although you’re not as efficient as other classes, you can triumph in nearly any situation with skillful use of the abilities at your disposal. Combat isn’t as repetitive as with other classes, and it’s a good choice if you like to push your limits. It does get better once you get master traits, but if you feel you’ve given the class a fair shot and you’re still not enjoying it may be best just to play something else.

Their a lot more to PvE content then farming DE. You do know that right??

Which farming de for loot, is the only thing we not as good as doing, as must other class’s.

In a dgn(which is major parts of pve) I am the center of the team almost always. I keep the team going and protect again wipes. I keep all mobs together, for fasting killing since easier to aoe. I can tank boss’s, and so much more. Over all Mez is really good in team work for a dgn, in almost every build the mez got.

Then jp, are also PvE and Mez are extremely helpful in them as well.

In the end, we good at everything in Pve. other then one thing and thats farming.

The ai on clones and phantasms is fine. The ai is extremely simple. Whatever they were originally summoned on is the target they will shatter on, as well as the target they will continuously attack. This has always worked perfectly. If they are shattering/attacking other targets, it means you simply summoned them incorrectly.

Sorry your wrong, for the weapons clones you are right. But utilities can sometimes mess up. However those are rare.

Now those that will attack a random target is those that are made with the trait. make a clone when ya dodge.

Ive tested it over and over again.

If you love to farm, to get tons of money. This is the worse class for it, Mez suck at farming De.

Get a ranger/warrior if ya wanna farm da for money.

However all other PvE content Mez are really good at.

In PvP mez are consider OP all around.

I’m a lvl 80 Mez and even at low lvl I never felt it was hard are anything.

Mez to me have always been easy as hell.

However now I use sword/focus and a gs.

I do major aoe damage, and I am a tank build.

For all long range attacks out of 40 secs they can only hit me about 5secs.

My armor is 3k, and highest their is, is a guardian with a shield with 3.4k armor.
Even on the boss that is consider one of the strongest, if not the strongest. The one in Arah explorable mode, the third boss ya gotta fight in all the lines.
I can tank him for the entire fight.

In PvP I can tank 5 players and in the end win.

I got major tanky powers.

Now to do basic aoe, use gs number 4 and then switch to sword/focus use number 4 and then number 3 and then number 5 then 3 again to immb them and then 2, any normal mob is pretty much dead and all of that is a aoe. With number 4 pulling all mobs into one place so ya can aoe the crap out of them, because warden awesome for aoe and all sword skills are aoe.

Christ yes, spent an hour today trying to dye it properly, was hard work, hopefully when I actually get some decent dyes it will be a bit easier.

Just to clariy, what kind of armor we’re talking about specifically? The only one I’ve had chance to dye so far is Tier 1 Heavy armor and I didn’t have the slightest trouble.
Truth be told I luckily had the dyes I needed even if perhaps not the perfect shade of them, but it really can’t be that bad, can it?

Tier 3 Heavy, honestly it’s probably because I don’t have a large collection of dyes but unlike other armours the Sylvari stuff tends to merge together more, rather than have solid defined lines.

Also some colours look strange on the leafy/wood textures so I’ve stuck with a fairly boring iron/blood scheme, trying to do something more exciting with it but there are so many dyes to get =/.

How the Kitten did you get t3 already, ive saved up 2 weeks and only got 8g so far.

It’s unfortunate that you can’t get a Sylvari leafy looking until you’re pretty far into the game. The Nightmare set and the 3 tiers of cultural is 4 total leafy armor choices, all of which you won’t see until at least level 50.

Before it die’s it will make one to replace it, basically it can control what it young will be. Because it can control what gender it be through special hormones.

Agree however in the TA dgn, there is a staff made of plants and it looks awesome.

I use Gs as a secondary weapon. Sometimes I start combat with it use number 4 to cripple everyone. Then just attack them for a bit and as they get close press 5 and then as they get close again. I switch to sword/focus(my main weapons) (build is 10/20/15/20/5) press 3 then 5 then 3 then 2 and usually most mobs are dead. Which I dont get hit even once, even against multy mobs with this.

However usually I start with sword/focus so I can either use number 4 to pull all enemies into okittenup(you must learn this skills well to know where to place it to pull all enemies together). Are use number 4 to set up a well where all long range people have there shots reflex back at them.
While I deal with melee people.

So many other things to do with it.

Number 4 on focus is the very best control skill we have and number 5 is about 3rd maybe 4th best.

It funny in WvW there was this Engi tossing gereande and stuff.

I set up number 4 and then watch him kill himself, I even wave at him.

HE died so fast, it was funny as hell.

Well with d/tc/fb/bf out of ever 40 secs, I can keep my self unable for long range to hurt me 29secs of the time out of 40 secs.(once I get to where I cna use IW perfect it will be 100% of the time where projectiles cant hit me.)

butterflies fit the class perfect.

IN real life they one of the few real life Mesmers.

Second they play a key role in chaos theory.

Third it was use in gw1.

I dont care much about the 3rd reason, but the other two makes butterflies to me, to be perfect for the Mez and I love that they did it.

It part of who she is(yes I see all Mez as female, and yes it the only class I see a gender to the rest can be either to me.) It not because of the butterflies it, it just the entire feel of the class all of it skills. The lore behind it, there is like no male Mez in the lore.

What if enemies could use the portal? As a general idea. What if say, they suffered 2s of Cripple + Weakness, but other than that they could use it?

Then as a Mez, for example. I would set it up so when they go through it. They right next to a cliff. Which I would have fun knocking them all off and watching them fall to there deaths.

Still Focus is better then both, unless you do a pure illu dps build. Otherewise focus in Pvp is better.

Well you got a couple things completely wrong, other than your I’m so good at this why aren’t you, attitude. What level are you? What kind of gear do you have? Most of what I USED to read was complaints of tagging mobs at 80. DEs change a lot at level 80, and even at 60, which is where I’m at.

So aside from your patting yourself on the back, you haven’t really supplied any suggestions or even a real question due to lack of details. What people are saying when they compare to other classes is not that we can’t, its that we have to work much harder for the same result. Personally that’s what I love about the class but regardless I believe that is what your are misinterpreting as calling them underpowered.

Actually, a majority of posts lately have been minor tweaks and suggestions rather than complaints. In closing I would love th chance to add such an amazing mesmer to my friends list so I could pad your ego just a little more.

First sorry if it looks like I am patting my self, just trying to figure this out. Since 4 out of every 5 threads I read I always see people putting down the Mez.

Second I am lvl 78(dont aim for lvling so I do a lot of side stuff like jp a lot), third name is Abriel Lafiel, fourth dont put up suggestion because this was not meant as a helping thread, but as a figuring out thread. Trying to fig out why so many people hate it in PvE, since I dont know why.

I got lvl 55 armor, been transmuted to T1 sylvari gear, and the shoulder pads to t2(dont like any of the other piece in T2 but loves the shoulder pads) but kept the normal lvl 55 gear mask look, I love how that mask look.

I go for vit/power/tough stats, right now grinding karma and badge to get lvl 80 armor with that stats(well not grinding, suck at it I do it for less then 30min then go do other stuff)

About DEs, what’s your trick? We don’t have any spammable AoE, our best bet is a 8s CD on GS.. as far as I know.

But yeah.. there’s a lot of whining, not just about mesmer.

Gs and sword/focus.

Number 4 on gs, switch to other weapons really fast. Use number 4 again with focus. You gotta learn to aim this skill, but once ya do you can pull 5 targets all into one small area. Then 3 then 5 then 3 again. So they all stuck before they can move much and you got a warden right on therekitten #8217;s.(which is highest damage illu)
Then you press 2, and if they still alive which I doubt. just press 1. Sword is aoe on normal hit. Not a wide aoe but enough to hit all mobs you pulled close to each other. Number 2 is a aoe as well.

Could also use staff number 5 then switch to sword/focus pull all into it use warden then stick them, and then number 2.
This cause a multy combo, that majorly confuse them and help you.

There multy other combos to use as well.

I go with the gs with sword/focus.

Since thats what I am build for and gotten good at pulling 5 mobs close to one spot and them bam them hard.

I mean it, am I stupid are what.

All over the Mez forums I read over and over again. How the Mez suck at PvE.

So I must be missing something are blind maybe.

Since my Mez in dgns can handle entire mobs. Keep them off the team for the entire fight and even in most boss fights. While doing okay damage.

Which being able to protect the entire team like that is very important.

Then in normal pve, I can farm DE just like anyone else. Actually I can pull 5 mobs together and kill them in less then 5 secs. I can also solo champ, even through it takes a bit to kill them.

So plz someone explain what I am missing.

I mean I just read this one guy who said this(Though if you put me up against 3 mobs in PvE, I’m having to pull out all the l33t skills to do a little below a guardian’s or warrior’s damage. As a guardian with GS, I cleared through 10 mobs like nothing. As a Mesmer, that would be suicidal.)

So either I am dreaming up all the people who added me to there friend list. Because they love playing with me in dgn and even in reg pve content, because of how good a Mez is.

Are almost all who play the Mez have no ideal how to us it in PvE.

your link is bad, but let me say. I dont like offhand sword that much and I dont like pistol that much.

To me the focus way out shine both. The only way the pistol is good is if ya going for a illu dps build. Only way any other weapon I can see as a offhand would out shine the focus for me.

However I dont go for that build and so I will always use Sword/focus.

I like scepter, but for my build sword works better.

I also use the gs for secondary weapon, because again. It best for my build.
